Better yet, end it now, while you’re at it fire who ever had this brain storm.
There is a difference between shifting population and having guilds move to your server which increases population and activity. NSP players have already admitted to receiving guilds on the WvW forums. While some of their population was due to fair weathers, it was minimal, just like every other servers fair weathers cause minimal increases.
They received guilds, crapped all over T4 and then got crapped on in T3 and gave up. I’ve been on several servers that have faced NSP in the past, one thing holds true with NSP, when things get tough they give up. This goes all the way back to when they were throwing matches against AR, YB is known for being the worst siege/tower humping server NA, NSP is known for giving up.
It comes off as offensive but it’s what I have seen from NSP in 3 years.
Sorry to be that guy^^
But GW2 was entirely built around the concept of not having healers. I was playing Boon duration guardian before the great rune revamp (+130% boon duration yay) and that’s when I remembered that they didn’t want us to play like that. (now u can barely get to +95ish%).
You can still play some stuff like shout guardian/warrior and do some condi-clearing but you WILL need to get in there and hit your targets as the game will not reward you for any form of support.Or just make a solo build and don’t care about anyone, that seems to be the meta^^
Key word here is “was”, Anet made the change to implement more healing/support type game play so Anet should be accommodating their change. What the game “was” built around no longer matters, what the game “is” now built around does matter.
TBH, free transfers won’t solve anything unless they did 1 of 2 things.
Either open free transfers to the Bottom 2-3 servers only.
or
Forced free transfers off the bottom 3 servers and then shut them down.
Anything else will just be people swapping between servers that aren’t in need of transfers.
No, they did have a band wagon. I had an alt on DH I watched them go from where they were to considerably larger within a couple weeks. You can go back and look at their PPT progression on millenium. They weren’t big enough for T3 but to big for T4 so they were T3.5, which was not the case the couple weeks prior when fighting them.
Serverwide chat channel would be easier and Anet WANTS people to stay in LA, they don’t want everyone crowding into a small area because the stuff is better placed, and they sure as heck wouldn’t want it to be free.
It’s a good idea but it wouldn’t fly, especially for free.
It’s really quite stupid, some runes are repulsively priced and we should be able to remove them with spending gems.
Or, you could allow players to purchase Runes with Badges of Honor then just make them account bound once purchased so players can’t resell if that’s your worry.
No, PvP happens in PvP zones. Be aware of your surroundings, learn to pan, watch for call outs from scouts, and watch the map it’s pretty easy to figure out where the enemy will be at any given time in EotM.
This is a perfect example of how EotM has wound up being a failure, wanting to port to a close location to the Comm to avoid all of the risk part of WvW. Please dear god don’t let the new map or if they come up with a new match system be anything like EotM.
What happened to NSP? A few weeks ago they were up in T3 and not doing too bad.
Coverage, and I imagine a constant flurry of RNG matchups that kept putting them higher. From the SBI view, it would seem NSP hung around mostly due to their rather strong defensive and scouting network. Generally, their stuff is very hard to
karma traincapture, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this discourages attackers rather than be a malicious 2v1 situation. This is speculation, of course and also turning into an MU thread.
My honest take on it is, NSP had a band wagon, it wasn’t a huge one but it was enough to cause disparity in T4. They seemed perfectly fine when they could easily win with little to no competition. Then they rolled T3 (really this was their own fault) and got stomped, the easy wins evaporated and they had to taste their own medicine for a couple of weeks. They finally got to come back down to T4 but unfortunately CD had been doing some band wagoning themselves, now there was competition, NSP had another server that could hold their own to deal with. People either left NSP or stopped logging in. It was all their own doing.
In short, NSP created T4 disparity and were happy with easy wins, when things got tough they tucked tail and ran.
Wait, the reason I say this is because so many people just threw their money at Anet, and we have seen very little info released since. Now they have their next Gaming Conference and you can bet your butt they are going to hold back a lot of info to announce it there. Stop enabling them, if everyone refrained from blindly giving them money they might have felt some obligation to elaborate on what exactly they expect us to purchase.
They are doing a very crappy job of updating us or there really isn’t all that much to the expansion so their dragging it out. Either answer is unacceptable and they don’t deserve to be rewarded for it.
Their Band Wagon skills are sub par clearly.
Anyone who thinks ranged used to be underpowered needs to l2p.
Unfortunately I’d say around 85% of the player base is terrible. They whined about “skilless” hammer trains and yet there they would stand like a deer in the headlights while they got steam rolled. They could have shown their superior skill levels by moving, positioning, communication, hey why not all of the above. I guess it was just easier to complain about hammer trains than to admit being the moron that stood there and took it right up the pooper.
What most people overlook is the population. You see a healthy force on Ebay BL and think CD is focusing you because it’s not possible for Ebay to cover multiple maps with that size of a force. So of course that means CD is incapable of fielding that size of force on multiple maps.
I assure you, they can field those numbers on multiple maps at once.
You all are going to hate revenants then.
They have a skill that allows them to jump from the top of keep walls, then teleport into the blob, do damage, and then back safely onto the wall again.
LOL @ do damage. What you meant to say it jump from the keep, port into the zerg, tickle someone causing almost no damage and being completely ineffective, and then back to the safety of the wall.
TBH I’m not sure why they went any of these routes with the Revevant, if it’s not broken, why fix it, don’t try and reinvent the wheel, ect ect.
Weapon swapping was working fine, utility choices were also working fine. The Legends could have functioned like Attunements, I’m baffled why you felt the need to over complicate things. New and shiny is not always good, someone seems to have way over thought the whole class design, in doing so you have created so much more work then you needed to.
This is more of food for thought for the future if you plan on releasing any more classes. Your current system works, it has some balance tweeking that needs work here and there but over all it works just fine and people seem content with it. So once again, for future, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.
no, but Vapor Form(ele downed skill) shouldn’t be able to use portals.
Yeah well in vapour form guardian lines shouldnt be able to stop you either but they do now and again, so….
Which reminds me, Guardians shouldn’t be able to Banish downed players, nor any other Launch for that matter.
Whoa let’s not get crazy, now you’re just asking for lawls to be nerfed. How are we suppose to play a friendly game of soccer if we can’t boot your corpse all over the place.
Perhaps they need to fold the lower populated servers into the next tier in order to make the new BLs feel more populated?
WvW isn’t any fun when there’s no one to fight against. They absolutely have to do something about this issue, and the only real solution I can think of is a set of server merges. Lowering the pop cap isn’t really going to fix anything as there are already a large number of servers that don’t fill more than one BL. Even T2 only fills one or two most nights, and won’t fill any in offhours TZ’s.
The thing is, there is no reason to take action just yet. It makes much more sense to me, to wait until after the expansion, before doing anything. New or returning players could possibly change the population a great deal on certain servers, or even all of them. Why compress the server numbers when it is logical to assume there will be a large injection of players?
There will be an injection of new and returning players but how many will stay for an extended period ? It’s a fact that some of those players will try it and leave within a short time frame. It’s a fact that if Anet neglects WvW as they have in the past that some of the ones who do not leave in a short time frame will eventually move on just as they have in the past. My guess is, if Anets continues as they have in the past we will be right back here to dead servers within 1 year.
The step it up argument is completely invalid. It has been pointed out in numerous posts that ET (not sure about DR & UW) has a couple of commanders who are more than willing to lead the server for WvW. What do you do when you tag up and have no one to command ? Do you go to PvE and recruit ? Oh that’s right Mega Servers. You can’t step up and lead what you do not have.
I also have alt accounts, a few weeks back after reading some posts about ET being dead I took and alt account to ET to see it for myself. At first I was positive it was being blown out of proportion, I was shocked to find they were not blowing it out of proportion and there was literally no one in WvW with the exception of a couple of people.
They can’t just step it up, they have no one to step it up with. They either need a massive influx of players (which will just cause a disparity else where) or they need to move/merge. It’s unhealthy for the game and new players that roll on the wrong server (because their all very high, which is completely misleading) so new players roll ET, they get to whatever the new stupid level is to enter WvW, and its a barren wasteland with no activity. I’m willing to bet they brag to all their friends about how much fun they are having and give several reasons to buy the game ….
It has been a while now and let’s look at what happened after the change.
The death of WvW tank trains is the main thing I’d like to point out. Before the change, boon stripping was effective and trains had counters. Ranged and melee IMO had a balance. Tanks leap in for the tank bomb. Range use positioning and boon strips to deal with it.
Now in WvW, unless there is a very organized group with at least 2 coordinated guardians per party, tank trains are a thing of the past. Groups push and pull with a death zone between like two pirate ships circling and firing away. Often times, even an organized tank train has no chance to make it through the range-chase.
Fights more often than not end in one side simply disengaging.
Is this the kind of WvW we want?
I play ranged, I play melee. These fights are very lack luster if you’re not playing your scumbag ranger alt.
More like hammertrains were completely immune to anything ranged could do, hence GWEN. How can you call that balanced ?
Just FYI, my current favorite WvW toon is a flamethrower engi …. while I do have range on my mortar, it isnt my weapon of choice so I cant kill anyone with it, its not for the fields though, for some added utility, my FT is basically melee but less stab then guard or war, hell even my necro in plague, DS or lich gets more.
So you neitehr need a ranger, nor be a cog in a hammertrain. It is false for you to make such a claim.
People who think tanks were immune to everything are the biggest problem, what they were immune to was stupidity. Ranged blowing EVERYTHING on inc was and still is a problem. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen a Tank Train stopped in their tracks to a well timed static or line or wall, or countless other CC. Now lets look at wells and venom share, Stability does not over ride immobilize so again your argument is flawed.
Bad player blowing everything they have all at once were the issue, the same could be said for parties blowing all their stab at once. Good groups had Guardians rotating stability, just like other classes should be rotating their CC.
I think it’s safe to say, if they make WvW like EotM it will be the fastest exodus in gaming history. Within 24 ours WvW will be extinct.
You can’t force PvE players to WvW, and vice versa. IF your server is populated with more PvE players that leaves your BLs empty, and you want to WvW with other players, it’s time to transfer.
JQ is one of the only servers that has a WvW population on all time zones. Consider going there.
100% correct but once upon a time you used to be able to enter the land of PvE to ask for help and though you may not have gotten a ton of people you usually managed to get a few. Mega Servers ruined that, now you can’t even attempt to pull PvE players in.
Really at this point I’m personally beyond caring about speculations concerning specialization weapon sets. Just release the info already Anet, the hype train has derailed, let us plan our builds and comps.
We already have druid with staff, and revenant with melee staff. I think that with those two, we can be somewhat certain that thief isnt getting a staff, melee or otherwise.
Could be wrong. But I’d be money on it.
Revenant staff is not their specialization. That like saying, we already have Warrior, Guardian, Engineer, Mesmer, with shield. I think it’s safe to say Revenant isn’t getting a shield.
Do you see the flaw in your logic here ?
And yet people are still blindly throwing their money at Anet.
Keep in mind also that it won’t be so unfair thief getting rifle considering the fact that he won’t be able to backstab with that weapon so i don’t think it will be stealth based trait line.More like dmg as long as you keep the distance like ranger
That is 1 stealth skill, it’s not the only one. Lets not for get all the distance they can create without stealth, and I’m assuming they will have weapon swap, so they could very well have BS for those cases where someone actually does manage to catch you.
I think you’re giving the majority of people way to much credit. Most seem to be requesting a long range weapon, they have medium range, SB and Pistols so why do they need a third medium range option ? As far as what people expect, like I said I think you’re giving them way to much credit, I’m willing to bet most want to retain their functionality and get 1200 range and still be high dps. No risk, all reward if you will.
The same could be said for Rifle, for a thief to be viable at 1200 range they would need to completely rework the class. Basically they would need to take away most things that make the class what it is now because of what’s been pointed out a few times now. 1200 range with everything they have now would be pretty much god mode.
Translation:
We aren’t going to give you guys any more real info before this show because we need it for hype. What you can expect before then is a lot more about stuff we have already revealed.
Please correct me if I’m off base here.
You could just not play with that specialization line
I could but, currently I main Ele, if the specialization is lack luster (imo of course) then why bother having one ? This is Anets new shiny system, as a WvW player the only real reason for me to even purchase the expansion is specializations. I’m of the opinion that specialization are going to trump old builds in most areas because they are new and shiny.
You are correct though, I could just continue to play staff Ele, but how much fun would that be ? That’s why I said I would probably gravitate towards Druid (provided it’s what I think it will be or close to).
So far, none of the released ones will make me leave my ele main. And even though I don’t like the name of the ele spec (since it sounds like it will be some kind of wind/force, and if new threads are true it’ll be warhorn as new weapon
), I doubt it will make me give up my staff aoes.
Only one left that could possibly make me switch is the Engi elite spec, but need to know more on it first.
I’m on the opposite side of the argument, if Druid ends up being decent I might move to that, if Ele’s get a warhorn, I might actually just delete my Ele out of disgust.
Standing back and pew pewing is my subjective definition of lame when I play my thief/assassin class I want to be gibbing and evading people. When I play my ranger I want to be standing back and pew pewing.
This is what you don’t get. The point of elite specs isn’t to give people already playing that profession a pile of all the goodies they’ve been wanting. It’s to make that profession appealing to people who weren’t previously interested. It’s supposed to encourage alts and keep people playing in the same way that new professions would, but with massively less development cost in animations and art assets. If the Sniper feels nothing like a Thief, that’s totally fine. If someone who previously only played Ranger now makes a Thief, then that’s a win for the devs.
What you don’t seem to be getting is your entire argument is subjective. Say exactly what you just said except insert ANY weapon or ANY class.
Example: If the Monk feels nothing like a Thief, that’s totally fine. If someone who previously only played Guardian now makes a Thief, then that’s a win for the devs.
Maybe there are players out there that want to play thief and are hoping for a weapon that will make them not so fragile while keeping their utilities, better defence less dmg.
I’ll point this out once again too, 1200 sniper that can stealth, evade, shadow step (multiple time) and every other get out of jail free card a thief has is completely and utterly broken. Yes lets give people an unkillable, uncatchable, 1200 range class because I’m sure that’s healthy for the game …….
However his assumptions may be close to correct. For exampla I can’t get into necromancer. I don’t like daggers, axe or staff on this class. I don’t like how his skills work, not my story. However, after Reaper reveal I’m more exctided for this spec than for revenant.
That part is fine, it seems he is insinuating this is why thieves should get Rifle. What I’m saying is it doesn’t give a valid argument for a Rifle over any other weapon, people like different things.
Standing back and pew pewing is my subjective definition of lame when I play my thief/assassin class I want to be gibbing and evading people. When I play my ranger I want to be standing back and pew pewing.

I don’t know, IF the Druid turns out to be half as good as I think it will, I will be happy with it.
The problem with a thief having 1200 range is, it would probably be completely broken. Thieves are hard to catch as it stands right now, giving them 1200 range would make them next to impossible to catch. Enemy gets close they can stealth or SS away or any other of the plethora of escape abilities they have. It would not be fun for anyone except maybe the Thief to fight a class you simply could not fight back against.
I find off hand weapons to be underwhelming, not really sure why, it just doesn’t give me that wow factor.
What is wrong with having servers and matchups that vary in coverage and population. Not all of us want to be on a busy server. Megaserver and some of the PVE events already force us into large groups why can’t some of us play with less people? The problem is not the lack of people its the imbalance. Why can’t we have things like different server caps for different match ups? Also surely guilds have different numbers and different number of people active in WvW.
Unlike PVE we do not have a choice of how to play WvW the matchups effect us and people moving about effects us. If I don’t want to play in a big zerg I can avoid that in PVE, I can play alone or in a small group. But by trying one thing to fix all servers you please some and not others. Maybe there needs to be more then one solution?
There is nothing wrong with varying coverage and population, there is something wrong with no coverage or population. Just as an example, if they combined rank 24 with 19, 23 with 20 and 22 with 21, their population will still be considerably smaller then the servers above them. I think there is a misconception that all these servers are packed full of people with zergs running 24/7. T4 is kind of what T6 once was, T5 is more like T7 and T6 is what was once T8 as far as population and coverage.
Now when you get to T3 things start getting more populated and busier, I suspect if they merged the lower servers you wouldn’t see much of a difference than what those servers were like 1 year ago.
‘Not my cup of tea’ is different from ‘not even tangentially related to the base class’.
The melee Staff folks seem to basically be wanting a new profession entirely – a D&D-style Monk or other noble martial artist – and are hanging their threadbare hopes on the Thief as being, vaguely and in only the most superficial sense, the closest they have to their desired Martial Artist Guy. The Ranger elite spec is already confirmed as a natural caster, and the Engineer is never going to be an acrobatic martial artist. It has nothing to do with Thievery, or any of the other, more specialized methods of achieving Thievery out there.
The problem, of course, is that it doesn’t fit the Thief, either. It’s just not a thing in this game, and mutilating the Thief’s elite spec to try and fit the King-F(u) Panda mold is honestly as insulting to Thief players as the Dragonhunter was to Guardian players. Except the Dragonhunter actually worked and was awesome except for the name and the weird forced big-game thing.
Melee staff isn’t even cool, or a thing that plugs a gaping hole in the Thief’s line-up.
Well to be fair, the ones wanting a completely new class like the AD&D monk aren’t wrong to want this. Look at what we know from Druid, its completely different from Ranger, I know that’s just kind of speculation but the little tid bits we do know points towards a staff wielding supportish type class.
Hard to say, matbe if we had info for all the classes it would be easier to answer this question. If I speculate and the class is what I think it will be in my head than yes, but that’s pretty unlikely that it is going to turn out like what I think it will.
You don’t have to use them, some of us have no desire to “experience” the boring grind that is PvE. I plan to speed level it to 80 followed by trial, error, and laughs.
I’m quite baffled by this thread, I have to agree with a previous poster, you seem paranoid.
- another player thinks it’s amusing to use harsh, abusive or other commentary on me or which is directed at me; *
This I get, its not unreasonable, there is no excuse to verbally harass anyone.
- Another player chooses to implement character-driven visual effects either at my avatar or in the immediate, targeted area of my avatar for the purposes of intimidation and/or too cause deliberate work-load on my graphics card thus interfering with my game play enjoyment*
Here’s part of the Paranoia, why would you assume they are out to do you wrong ? Maybe their just having fun, some of the spells and effects are quite nice, I really don’t see how anyone should be able to tell anyone not to use their effects. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean you get to make the rules. I like people using their spells and effects around me, I think it looks great, why are you right and I am wrong ?
- when another player chooses, deliberately to act to intimidate by occupying an area in my immediate vicinity or within the same space that my avatar is occupying and who may or may not move when I move to continue that intimidation.*
As long as it not an area that require exploits to get to, they have as much right to occupy that area as you do. Maybe you should lighten up, it really does sound like you’re under the impression that the world is out to get you. Sometimes people are just having fun, enjoying the product they purchased, you, by reporting them for doing so makes you just as guilty. They aren’t doing anything wrong or against the rules, reporting players for no real reason however, well ya, that actually is against the rules.
I’m lost for words why you felt this thread needed to be started, it’s nit picking at it’s finest over the most menial actions (with the exception of #1).
They need to spill the beans so to speak, let us know what to expect and then tweek accordingly. If they haven’t brainstormed all the specializations by now then they really pooped the bed.
@DevilLordLaser
It seems to be split feelings right now, many people are all for a staff melee type weapon while the others want the Rifle.
Thieves currently do a lot of quick spike melee dmg, and can perform as medium ranged with bows and pistols. It is possible that they are trying to give them the option to be more of a tanky frontline class. I would assume that a Bo-Staff brings some AoE attacks into play for thieves as well as possibly some blocks. This is all just assumptions and none of us really know what to expect but I don’t think its far fetched to believe they are trying to give thieves the option to be more frontline ish.
We are all literally guessing right now, maybe this is their way of bringing back the Monk Class and thieves will become stealth support.
Your guess is as good as anyones.
Look I can quote more too !
The ninja were stealth soldiers and mercenaries hired mostly by daimyos.45 Their primary roles were those of espionage and sabotage, although assassinations were also attributed to ninja. In battle, the ninja could also be used to cause confusion amongst the enemy.46 A degree of psychological warfare in the capturing of enemy banners can be seen illustrated in the ?u Eikei Gunki, composed between the 16th and 17th centuries:
Bottom line is, you’re talking about a Ninja, the class is a thief, we don’t know the name of the specialization yet which could be Martial Artist, Assasin, Ninja, Superhappyfuntimebostaffguy.
This is part of the Ninja Wikipedia.
Arson was the primary form of sabotage practiced by the ninja, who targeted castles and camps.
So I guess since we are now calling Thieves Ninjas its safe to assume dual torches !
No seriously, ninjas were rarely used for assassination and often used blunt objects to avoid killing.
The interwebs, is there anything it can’t teach you ?
We could go a step further and talk about how they used explosives, but that would mean Engineers are also Ninja’s. Good Lord how many ninja classes does this game have !
(edited by Random.4691)
Class colors are used in the background are reminiscent of theifs current trait lines backgrounds
and yet a blugeoning weapon matches a stealth class?
Yes, very much so actually.
I’ve suggested pretty much the same thing a few times now and think its a great idea. Similar to what you said, my idea was keep the 24 servers for character storage and what not, now funnel the traffic from the 24 servers into for argument sake we’ll say 12 (it can be bigger or smaller this is just a number picked out of thin air) WvW instances. When HoT is released force everyone to choose a WvW world to represent. Now your have 12 healthy WvW instances starting from scratch and the ability to show a true population picture based of server representation.
Some people are opposed because they want to be with their friends or they worked hard to be “The Commander” for their server. This is all avoidable if we are presented a list of home worlds we will be able to rep a couple weeks or even a month before hand. Now you have time to plan with your friends and server mates which server your all going to choose.
Another glaring issue will be “what happens when everyone decides to rep Blackgate” ? Have mile stones, When one home world achieves 100 reps close off the rep opportunity for that world until all other worlds have at least 75 (these again are numbers I’m pulling out of thin air). Once the others have at least 75 the rep re-opens for Blackgate until it hits the next milestone. It’s not a perfect system but it is one of many that could solve a lot of these issues.
WvW needs a change, while a few people are content with their small population, I think it’s safe to say the majority are not. Leave transfers the way they are after this is done for all I care, make your money off them but at least you will have a true population basis to go by so servers stop dying because they are full with 2 people in WvW.
Yes there are flaws in this design but instead of shooting the ideas down elaborate on them, Come up with better ways to fix it, help fix it instead of just saying nope nuh uh not gunna work.
I personally like the color coding system that players presented awhile back, it had flaws and we don’t want EotM but there are ways to prevent that. Let green transfer to any other green if they are losing or outmanned. Their home world will remain whatever they are on now, you can make it so an alert comes up across the screen. If FA is green and ET is green and FA is dominating while ET is getting stomped you get the Alert ET is being over run by the enemy at which point you know that ET is now available to port to. It really wouldn’t be much different than hopping BL’s to help out EB or your home border. If anything you’ll be hoping all over the place trying to assist the other green servers. Combine the scores to promote green assisting green or don’t combine them, people that are bored or in Queue will hop over to assist, it opens up variety as far as different opponents as well. Get rid of Glicko Rating and give everyone a shiny for first, second or third instead of a pat on the back.
Again its not perfect but something’s gotta give.
Suddenly servers like YB start plummeting in glicko because they don’t know what to do if they don’t have something to defend. It would be pretty funny.
It’s really not BS at all. If you have an alternate a count available with low levels delete them and visit ET, it’s a world of difference than what AR and all the other stuck in T8 went through.
Do not compare AR with ET, two completely different beasts. I was on AR for the trip down to T8 and back up, it is not even remotely close to the same thing. AR still had people playing in WvW, it wasn’t huge numbers but there was activity, ET has literally no activity. You can’t pull water from a well that is dry.
