Tanking required for raids

Taunting is not the same as taunting in other games.

For example a taunt does not mean you pull agro to yourself, it means the mob or player that has been taunted targets a different target, that target may or may not be the person taunting. So if that Mesmer with 1 hp is about to be obliterated and you use taunt the mob may turn around and smack the Ele instead, it does not mean the tank will pull aggro.

Raids and meters...

Meters are a QoL item, nothing more. If the Raids can be completed without them (which I’m sure they will be) there is no need for any form of meter.

Not that I have anything against meters, but it seems some people are so blinded by addon’s that they think it’s simply not possible without it.

Ascended Gear to be Required for Raids

I love how when a group can’t down a boss on their first or second try in a beta = Must have Ascended.

content designed based on ascended
+ the best groups needing 5-6 attempts ON THE FIRST MINI BOSS
+ everyone having access to any ascended gear set they want on demand
+ many groups failing after 2 hours, even with ascended ON THE FIRST MINIBOSSS

= why are you dragging the team down by not coming with the best stats you can, we failed 4 times already quits team and starts new one with gear checks instituted.

mathematical need isnt really going to come into play.
requiring everyone to have ascended basically ensures better chance of success, and less mastery required to succeed, which makes it a feasible request.

most people arent willing to fail 2-3 more times hoping everyone gets 10% more effecient after failing

You sound mad, perhaps you should have a morning coffee or something before posting. Stop assuming everyone is the same skill level, there are groups of people out there that can and will do this in a full exotic set up just to blow everyone QQ out of the water.

Why PPK is a bad idea for WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Random.4691

Random.4691

1. It will discourage new players – they’ll be easy targets (no fun if you’re constantly stomped on) and gain little reward (unless you can hide in a zerg and tag things – that’s what EotM seems to rely on).

So PPK means more people will be killing ? This makes no sense, new players are going to get killed whether it’s in place or not, this is a poor excuse.

2. It will encourage spawn camping – after all that’s where the players come from so get them while they are fresh.

As pointed out in so so many other threads, you have 3 exits per map, if you are dumb enough to continually run out of the main exit into the angry mob, you deserve to be spawn camped.

3. Eventually someone will point out to those who are still learning how to play (new players or new classes) that each time they die it is helping the other side – so they can best help their own server by staying away and never coming here again!

Um how is this different from rally bots ? Just because their would be points behind the kill doesn’t mean people appreciate others being rally bots and handing the enemy a win.

OK, I’m being cynical. So just how much would you bet that these things won’t happen if WvW becomes PPK based…?

The best place for PPK is for GvG ranking, not in general WvW. Give GvG the love it deserves: a proper set of arenas and a proper ranking system, it’s as valid as any other game mode.

Everything you pointed out has no bearing on PPK, they are all just excuses and they all happen already so, if anything it will force people to become better players. You will probably see more unison as well because that pug zerg that always wipes will receive assistance so they don’t wipe over and over and over.

Maybe come up with a reason, you know … that makes sense and isn’t already in full swing.

Well WP is wrong, nothing is designed around using a Voip, it make everything easier for communications purposes. WvW is easier with Voip, PvP is easier with Voip, Dungeons are easier (ok maybe not in gw2 because they’re a joke) with a Voip, and finally Raids will be easier with a Voip.

Basically everything is easier when using a Voip, less typing is better, but usually so long as you can hear a Mic is not needed (unless you are leading the raid) . Basically if you can hear the commands andwhats going on or what you need to be doing there is little need for EVERYONE to be able to speak, actually having everyone with a Mic can be a problem in itself when the chatter won’t stop.

The 1st boss is easy on conditions and CC. That probably won’t be the case for the others. Melee damages could also be denied for some bosses too.

And for those hoping for a druid nerf, don’t count on it. Base heal will be reduced while h.power scaling will be increased so overall a cleric druid will heal more than during BWE3 and they’ll also modify Astral Force generaton so that you’re not forced into staff, meaning that druids will also be able to DPS. I’d rather have them improve h.power scaling for other classes, in PvE at least.

This will effectively nerf their all around usefulness. They will have to go full clerics (or some form of healing power gear) and thus will be lacking in other departments, they can ignore Healing Power and their heals will be Meh, or the smart ones will find the happy medium with Celestial or the mixing of different types of Gear/Jewlery/Weapons. The last one of the three options will probably see a small decline in Healing output but it probably wont be game breaking and they will be able to do more than just heal.

So it will still be a nerf, even if it’s only a small one.

I am casual, it did not take me 6 months to obtain ascended, put some effort in, spend some gold, or … enjoy your other game that will have more of a grind for you to participate in raids.

looks at the other two raid MMOs he plays, WoW and FFXIV and notes that he can do a weeks worth of dungeons or outdoor content in both and have everything needed for the newest tier of raiding

Not to mention that my shaman is still raid ready for the current heroic raid and I quit playing WoW back in February.

looks at GW2 and hates the crafting system as its inferior to FFXIV’s system and has to grind longer than a couple weeks to make everything or has to buy $20-$40 worth of gems to just buy the mats

Now if they were to make ascended drop of champion mobs and events this wouldn’t be an issue for a lot of people, but Anet are pretty kitten stubborn for whatever reason on a lot of weird things.

:D

If you’re this unhappy and feel it’s inferior to the other two game then by all means feel free to stop complaining and go play them.

I’m glad that all this extensive Raid testing has shown us that the Druid is the only reliable source of healing for raids. It couldn’t possibly have been that the Raid groups were using Druids because this was the first and only weekend for them to be played before release resulting in an over abundance of players playing Druid vs. other classes.

That couldn’t possibly be a major factor it would make waaaaay to much sense.

Other healers have been tested too, as well as other condi dps.
Even WP in his stream tried to use full cleric ventari rev and could not keep up. And they had a condi necro that they had to replace with another scrapper.

And yeah, please don’t nerf engi and druid (maybe a bit on cele charging), but buff other classes in condi and heal roles, otherwise we’ll be forced on a 4engi1druid party setup

First off 1-2 days in beta is not even remotely enough time to come to a conclusion, second WP is an average player, he seems to be an ok guy but to pretend he is some kind of Gaming God and assume that if he couldn’t do it, it clearly won’t work is just ignorant at best.

There will be other classes capable of healing the raids, a large part of success if the person behind the class.

The exodus will leave these threads totally devoid of people except the MMO-Darwinist like the OP, until GW2 becomes an insular boring game full of kitten-hats pretending that min-maxing a dumbed down build and throwing months of time into ascended gear equals “skill.” Bye, Felicias!

You know that this is just going to provide fuel for the fire, you’re providing ammo for the nerf stealth folks.

It’s not a stealth issue, it’s a applying conditions passively while being able to stay in stealth issue…

I play a thief myself, tried the build out and got so bored that I fell asleep at my keyboard.

Passive condition application, the ability to stay in stealth while conditioning someone to death is what most people are against, with the share amount of reveals and stealth traps people have,, your target being in stealth isn’t an issue…

I wasn’t complaining about anything. I was pointing out that those who do complain on a regular basis could use this for their “see, see, I told you so” argument.

Gear checks have a purpose, some may not agree with it and that’s their right but the certainly shouldn’t be upset if a group doesn’t accept them for feeling they are above a gear check. To go into certain aspect with sub optimal gear ruins the fun for some players. When I ran with my WvW guild our guild members were expected to play certain builds with certain stat combinations, if they chose not to run these builds they became a liability to everyone else. Getting wiped because one rallybot decides they are above a gear check is not fun, it effectively ruins the fun for everyone else that took the time to build correctly. Now if someone doesn’t want to go through this ordeal they have a choice, they can leave the guild because that was our expectations. It’s not rude or bullying, think of it as a dress code at work, the code is there for a reason, it wasn’t implemented to bully employee’s.

Dungeon or PvE gear checks are no different, you have the option to say “nope I don’t want to run that way” again, it’s not bullying, it’s a difference of opinion and playstyle.

I believe you get enough points to unlock everything except the elite spec, that you need to go forth and gain hero points for. That is why I’m hoping I don’t need all the core specs first.

This is a good point, I was thinking of just spending points on the traits and abilities I intend to use, I can work on the rest later. I’m hoping that I can choose to spend points on an Elite spec and put one or two of the core specs off until a later date.

I actually agree with you on this, I don’t believe it would take hours to have a group assembled, maybe in time once everyone has completed the first section it would take longer but that’s the norm in every game. I think once HoT hits if there was a LFR system available wait times would be maybe 15 min at most and even that is pushing it.

I don’t see an issue with a LFR system (aside from more resource investment from Anet) but I have to agree with Linken, you either should have to accept that it could take awhile to find the suitable roles or you chance raid failure because you substitute a particular role with a fill in.

That is at least my opinion on that matter. So long as the raid itself does not change, if players can find a way to make a different set up work then all the power to them.

Ok so for Revenant you would like to see more diversity, the ability to choose utilities and create a unique build. That’s reasonable, I don’t think it’s going to happen right away but certainly something to question in the future once the smoke of release clears.

Raids you would like to see a LFR (Looking for Raid) type of system similar to how a player queues up for PvP and have that system find your team based on the class roles that are needed ? Which could be a valuable tool so long as difficulty levels are not affected. You do realize though with a tool such as this you are going to get random strangers some of which you may not see eye to eye with in respect to their … mannerisms.

All in all I think both are not bad ideas, why did it take us 3 pages to reach this simple conclusion.

You’re not asking for raids to be easier just a more simplistic way to enter/organize a group to enjoy the content. Am I correct in assuming this is a good summary of what you’re asking for ?

Not a cop out, I was honestly curious on how you would view this mechanic. Their intention was to bring us build diversity so everyone wasn’t zerk meta. There will however still be needed builds, it may not be as specific as limiting it to a certain class or certain traits but you will need to have certain build types. I think a major problem with the “bring anything you want” theory is this is exactly where meta’s such as Zerker meta are born from. If you give players the option to bring what they want they will find the shortest distance from A to B which will result in that meta you and many others (myself included) do not like/approve of. So by asking for the ability to bring what you like, you are indirectly empowering the metas you are hoping to prevent.

This is such a dumb argument because there is nothing saying you can’t have an easy mode for raids and a hard mode. Do you think devil may cry would have been so successful if it only had one difficulty level?

I don’t understand the mindset of you people. Just make a hard mode with exclusive rewards. Completely locking out 99% of the playerbase out of content because the one %1 want to feel special is just bad demographic targeting.

A hard raiding game is the game everyone cries for but nobody wants. It’s called wildstar and it crashed and burned 1 month after launch.

It had stupid hard raiding and massive attunement requirements that took a giant steaming crap on everyone but the most jobless and time dedicated players.

People who complain about raiding and want to be hard come back and cry on here for the complete opposite reasons. Guild breaking, too much time, have kids, have to work, loot drama, dkp, gaming as a job, and all the things exclusive raiding brings.

People don’t want a hard raiding game, the want a game for everyone with a sprinkle of hard encounters.

The problem is, people are not taking into account that you are asking Anet Dev’s to double up their work load, this means they need to double on future raid content as well. They do have other areas in game that need their attention, its pretty selfish to expect they should spend all their time creating multiple difficulties because you want easy.

Are you taking into account enrage timers and the likes ? What happens when you enter a raid and the build you or another raid member are using make it impossible to complete the raid ? Your raid will be required to kill the bosses in X amount time or they enrage and wipe the raid. Do you still think that players should play whatever build they want if this is the case and it make the completion impossible ? Your build may be fine but another raid members may not be. What do you do when you realize you will never complete the raid without specific build types ? As I said before one example is at least 1 boss requires condition damage to kill it, will you suggest dumbing down the mechanics to suit the play what you want theory ? Do you believe this to be fair to other player not to mention he Dev’s who put a lot of time an effort into raids to bring us build diversity ?

About Revenants. Like Tregarde said, Revenants are the only profession that have two bar of utilities and Anet need to balance them so that they won’t be overpowered. That said, Conncept is also right that this limite the choice you have on a Revenant.

In the end, Revenant is a flawed system. Anet had a nice idea, but it doesn’t work that well. That said, it won’t stop the Revenant to be a good profession. Players will just have to live with a limited amount of choice when they build their Revenant and a very bad adaptability during content. Compare to another profession that change change one specific utility skill for a specific fight.

I still enjoy the kitten out of my Shiro/Herald in PvE

Sad thing is, this mistake has already been made, we know what’s going to happen.

The game which shall not be named added something called a hero class during an expansion. Which basically was a class that started off nearly at max level, including having only that portion of skills which any other class would gain at the higher levels, losing a significant portion of the customization experience. The class had a fair stint of popularity, but eventually pittered off and now is seen nowhere but PvP and other competitive content. They intended that this class be how they introduced new classes as well, instead they’ve never added another such class.

Lack of customization is not something to be offhandedly dismissed as a ‘design choice’ ANet, a certain amount of customization is necessary to give longevity to a class. Even when more skills were added to the above mentioned class, the standard opinion among the playerbase had already been established that this was an uncreative ‘shortcut’ of a class for players looking for quick power and viability but a cheap semblance of play as compared to the other classes.

The revenant is not going to last with the amount of customization it has available. It’s not going to be invalidated, its just never going to reach the potential for popularity or fun of the remaining classes.

This makes sense, I had never really thought about it like this but ya, I have to agree, going forward there will need to be changes to Rev.

Is there a reason you have not or will not purchase HoT ? Really not my business but I am curious.

Q: Will I be able to go inside my guilds Guild Hall, interact with and contribute to buildings?

I believe Anet stated there will be an option to enter through LA for those that do not purchase so they may participate.

Q: Will I get Elite Specializations on characters if I don’t have HoT?

No, HoT exclusive.

Q: Will I see new “locked” content (like Elite Specializations, Mastery’s, Skills, etc.) in my Hero Panel, on the core game?

Not sure if it will be in the hero panel if you do not purchase.

Q: My Group is in Verdant Brink and I just double-clicked a Teleport to Friend. Is the group subdued and not selectable?

No, the content is HoT exclusive.

Q: Dulfy.net quotes Arenanet developer Crystal Reid with the following: Is this a miss-quote? Will we be required to obtain Ascended Gear?
“http://dulfy.net/2015/09/30/gw2-ascended-gear-will-be-needed-in-raids/”Guild Wars WikiArenanet developer Crystal Reid has tweeted out in response to some questions revealing that Ascended gear will be required for some raid bosses

The tweet states that early wing bosses can be killed with a mix of Ascended/Exotic but last boss will require full ascended. There is no agony mechanic like in fractals."

It’s hard to comment right now because we really haven’t had a lot of time to test raids. From what I have heard from friends, Skill > Gear, but Ascended + Skill > Exotic + Skill.

Q: Will I face players in PvP and WvW, that have abilities unavailable to me in the core game?

Yes

Q: Will consumables that are unique in attributes to HoT be sell-able on the Trade Post and Purchasable by core gamers?

Again, we are unsure of certainties until release, this is unknown.

Q: If HoT has Jumping puzzles, will they be on future Leaderboards, and how will that effect the status of core game players.

No idea

Q: Are there any new Guild Bounties, Trek Locations, or Rushes in HoT maps that I cannot access?

They said they will be adding more guild missions, from the sounds of it you will be able to participate.

Q: I have 10 players, we do not own HoT, can we Raid? If yes, will obstacles that put the new Elite Specializations and Mastery’s to use (as mentioned), be impassable?

Raids will be HoT exclusive.

Q: In the core game I enjoy a Variety of Dungeons, Fractals, World Bosses, Temples, Jumping Puzzles, etc. Will HoT players have an advantage over me by gliding over obstacles or using newer skills in such ways?

As far as we know, gliding will only be available within the Maguuma Jungle (HoT exclusive content) though it could change in time.

Q: Will the Flesh Golem finally be able to swim?

No idea

Raids from what we saw in beta will not be zerk meta, you require several different types of builds. One boss as an example can only be damaged by conditions.

Anet also stated that raid groups will require several different builds and the zerk meta will not work. As for if you will be able to bring whatever you like … that is to be determined, HoT has yet to be release so anything we say at this point is pure assumption.

A LFR or Looking for Raid system wouldn’t be a bad thing imo so long as they stuck to requiring 10 people and didn’t make it any easier. All it should be used for is to accommodate folks who may not be able to form a group of 10 people, I should say rather, to make it easier for people to form a pug group but then again I suppose they have the LFG system in place so there’s really no need for a LFR.

I personally really enjoyed the Rev, I do agree with you on the point that it would be nice if it had more utilities to swap but, it doesn’t and I’m willing to accept that they had a good reason for this.

2) Raids – You never asked anything about raids, you mentioned they need a Commander tag and then went on a rant about not enjoying/liking the idea of SAB, what exactly are you asking about raids ? That you would like them presented to you in a different way ? different from what, SAB ? They have presented Raids differently then they have in the past, they are 10 man difficult content.

You know that this is just going to provide fuel for the fire, you’re providing ammo for the nerf stealth folks.

It’s actually come down to trying to explain simple basics, the key word is trying because he just isn’t understanding or accepting that it is him putting up the blockade for himself. He is more than capable of achieving a guild hall and using his “extras” that he paid for but he refuses to do so and that somehow is Anet’s or other player’s fault.

It’s almost unbelievable that someone can be so blind to reality, he actually seems to believe this game should change to cater to his unwillingness.

It’s kind of sad actually.

I certainly didn’t suggest you don’t deserve it, you deserve it and it is obtainable that seems to be what you’re not understanding. They shouldn’t change the game for 1 or 2 people who seem unwilling to work with others. As I said you’re entitled to play the game how you choose but there are consequences to those choices. Anet is not preventing you from obtaining a guild hall, you are preventing you from obtaining it.

Anyways, I can see where this is going, you’re not going to accept any answer but the one you want to hear, so best of luck to you and your wife, I hope you figure out a solution to your problem.

Maybe everyone else is not the problem if every interaction you have is negative ? You say including this one, why is that ? Was I rude to you ? Did I fling insults at you ? Did I call you names ?

I really think you should look inwards, there are plenty of helpful nice people in this game and on these forums, i strongly believe that if every interaction you have in this game is negative then it’s probably not healthy for you to play such a game.

No, that is not meant as insulting, you seem like a nice enough person, a little over sensitive imo but still maybe you just need not to take every little thing to heart.

The bottom line is, they said everyone will be able to participate, you are not being left out of that, you are choosing not to participate because you don’t like that it’s not your version of participation. Would it really be that bad to find some like minded people to help you and your wife achieve your guild hall ?

Will there ever be a fix for Nightcapping?

That has been the problem from day 1, they chose a system that is not intended for this type of match making and tried to twist it to fit. There are so many more adequate systems out there that would have worked for this type of match making it just boggles the mind why they went with glicko to begin with.

Participate is not the same as accomplish alone. You can participate, get a couple more people to help you, this is participating. It seems you have misinterpreted what they said.

Any guild can achieve a hall just as any player can play all the content available (provided you purchased the xpac) you may need help from other players though. You are limiting yourself, no one else is limiting you, not the players, not Anet, it’s all on you. You are more than entitled to play anyway you like but you need to accept the consequences that come with those decisions.

If you buy the xpac you can choose three line just as you can now, the difference is one of those lines may be an elite spec.

Hope that clears it up.

Well I guess some people are to sensitive to follow through with what they believe, I really don’t see anyone insulting the OP, seems to be a case of “it’s only constructive if I agree”.

It’s easy to understand why OP doesn’t like grouping with more than his wife, he seems the type that if you didn’t put a smiley behind a hello it would be insulting.
