why are people assuming that 2 separate 5-man parties can’t communicate with each other?

There’s this thing called map chat.

Good point, in that case you’d absolutely want the ability to isolate chat between parties, otherwise comms becomes a clusterkitten.

For example if one party needs to works siege while the other assaults (something like Tequatl), the assault team doesn’t need to see any of the called-target spam

It’s 10 people, we’re not talking 50-100, if you can’t figure out if a directive is being addressed to you or the other party you’re probably not ready for raids.

Not to mention I’m sure there will be a raid chat and a party chat for those that need it. If not see my first comment.

WvW or MvM?

In Spanish WvW is called MvM (Mundo vs Mundo), so both are correct.

About mesmers… this profession excels in roaming, but lacks in pve and large scale fights.

And for what you write, it’s clearly a l2p issue. In what world would you be able to kill such an unique profession like mesmer without even know what it’s played and its strengths and weaknesses?

For now, once hot is released those Mesmer wells will give them a much bigger role in large scale wvw.

I’ve always been a fan of being able to turn down effects, but not for the same reasons. The idea behind an MMO is to have as many players in your game as possible, some players (myself not included) do not have to $ to go out any buy a top of the line gaming rig. Turning down effects drastically reduces lag, some people don’t play certain games because they just can’t, the lag is to bad. Allowing effect scaling would probably net Anet more customers.

The problem is you’re cherry picking, a Warrior cannot have 3k power, 32k health, 3100 ac, do the most damage, stack the most might and everything else you mentioned. They would be required to wear multiple set of armor at once, use more utilities than any other class, and use all their trait line.

If they run full zerk for high damage out put, they will not have that armor, they will not have those HP.
If they run full soldiers, they still don’t have those HP or power, and their damage would not be as high as you are suggesting.

Show me a build that gives them all of what you listed and still out damages all classes.
Or a build that out damages all classes and still gives them the HP/Armor.

If this was the case and Warriors were all powerful EVERYONE would play warrior because there would be no need to play anything else.

Let me help you understand.

Warrior already has:
The most HP – Necro has same HP
The most AC – Guard & soon Rev share the same Armor
The most direct damage capability – Thief and Mesmer anyone ?
The best bleed – Ranger is 1 example that can apply more bleeds at a quicker rate.
The best Might stacking – Guard, Ele or do you just choose to forget this to suit your argument ? When Rev comes into play they can keep up 12+ stacks of might at all times.

EVERYTHING you listed is wrong.

Perhaps you should learn what the other classes are capable of before making silly posts.

I do not think it will be a couple months. Maybe a year before the price drops, they do not have a huge incentive to drop the price since people can now play the game for free. I suspect we will not see a normal retailer price drop until the 10-12 month range.

You might be right, but Anet is known for their random sales. They may drop the price $5-10 to entice those free account to buy it. Time will tell.

IMO, they should limit the number of realms a household can play WvW on to just one at a time.

So, they can set-up as many accounts as they like, to do PVE (or whatever else) on, but have to commit to just one for WvW.

That way, spying, trolling and permanent AFKing (to take up spots) would become less easy (you would have to “employ” a friend to do it, rather than being able to do it yourself) and people would have less incentive to match fix, as they would no longer be playing several realms at once, so wouldn’t be trying to keep all of them in the top tier (or whatever).

Also, (genuine) new players would still get to experience WvW fully.

This is a terrible idea, my step son plays and I play but were on two different servers. What do suggest in this case, or how about students that often have roommates that play and also aren’t on the same server. There was really no thought put into your suggestion.

I find that a horrible marketing decision (if it’s true), I wouldn’t be sure they’d get more people buying the game than leaving it with specs that aren’t fully designed. But what am I saying, it’s all about the Benjamin’s right?

Exactly, in the end it is all about the Benjamin, they are a business and people seem to forget that. It’s doesn’t have to be morally correct, I don’t even necessarily agree with it but from a marketing stand point it works.

I could use the drug addict example but that might be a bit overboard.

When people want something really bad, they might get upset if you make them wait but when it is finally released to them, they buy it up blindly. How many people blindly bought the xpac ? I think some people are giving far to much credit to the typical consumer.

Yes, they need to make money. They make more money if people are happy and enjoying the game and feeling fulfilled because of good communication with ANet, the developers. If you are enjoying something, you spend your money on it. Marketing is the devil too imo.

You cannot use the addict example in this case, because no dealer in their right mind would not sell to an addict if the product and money are there on the table. How does the dealer benefit from not selling immediately? Anyone who buys HoT was always going to buy it.

The smarter option would have been to release all the profession specs 1st, that way people who liked them would immediately buy HoT, after you have their money, it doesn’t matter if they like everything else.

Seriously, who of you that have not already, would have bought the xpac immediately if Druid was revealed 1st and it was amazing?

It’s not released because its not ready to be.

Your focusing on the wrong part of the example.

The number of people that already blindly purchased the xpac is a good indication of how any more will forgive and forget as soon as it is announced. For every one of you being vocal saying you may not buy it there is no doubt 2-3 people that will buy it.

I’m not even saying waiting is the right thing to do, but you’re all so blinded for wanting to know what these two classes consist of that you’re ignoring that. That’s the point.

Would I have liked them to release them all first (provided they are in a playable mode) of course I would have. I’m waiting to see both Druid and Forge eagerly, but that doesn’t mean the marketing plan (if that is indeed what they are doing) won’t work.

My prediction is, they announce one or both classes:
1) Some will be smart enough to realize they have 1 weekend to test and give feedback but will buy it anyways.
2) Others will completely forget and will be so excited that the wait is over that they will not only throw their money at Anet, they will thank them for revealing them.
3) Finally there will be those that either quietly or vocally move one to greener pastures.

Guess which one will be the Majority.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Different game modes will view the specs differently. Look at the Necro, in PvE players ranked it as one of the most underwhelming classes, in WvW they were a must have for party DPS. Not sure if Reaper is all that good in WvW because its basically a melee caster that will melt almost instantly, yet people already speak of the improvements made for PvE.

I think it depends on which mode people play, they require different play styles, some elites fit better for PvE, while other fit better for WvW, and I’m sure some are better in PvP.

Damage is Too High...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Random.4691

Random.4691

OP you are absolutely correct. Everyone who is saying “learn to play” might I suggest learning to read?

When damage exceeds the ability of a full defensive build to mitigate, then there is no point using that defensive build. Scaling is currently boosting spike damage too high, Perhaps it should have a hard cap on the amount of damage that can be dealt to a single target in one attack. By all means boost mob numbers, or mob vitality/toughness but boosting damage too high makes tanking specs useless at some scales.

Is it really a learn to read issue, or are you not understanding some of the replies ?

Its an encounter, that means you don’t take into account only the main boss damage you have to take into account the entire encounter including adds or other sources of damage. If there is adds or other forms of damage and your gear mitigates that damage it is 100% relevant to the encounter. It may not mitigate the boss, but, the boss is only one part of the encounter.

Now if its just you and the boss and the damage scales beyond mitigation, that could mean you have to many people at the encounter or you can try your luck in whatever gear you like at this point. If you try the encounter with less people does armor mitigation apply ? Maybe they did this to prevent the old Champ train mentality, bring a zerg to farm and you die.

It also could have been avoided if anet didn’t ignore the constant requests for a proper gvg area.

Its a combination of two ignorance, they are ignorant to everyone elses play style while expecting people to respect theirs and anet is ignorant for ignoring a mode that at one point brought in more viewers than any PvP tournament. Its a vicious cycle, they really should have some respect for other though if you want people to respect your GvG fights then have the decency to go back to the wind mill and stay out of high traffic areas.

It’s not like guardian and ele need any help. They’re by far the supreme classes of this game, being the backbone of any group in EVERY SINGLE GAME FORMAT.

If power creep is gonna come to these specializations, they’ll need to nerf the base classes.

The reason they are the backbone is because of what they bring to the group. Its not that they are OP (maybe cele ele in pvp) its their utility and how well rounded they are. Anet should take note of this for future elites. Just because they are in a good spot does not mean their elites should be sub par. There is plenty they could have done for both classes that wouldn’t have made them OP.

Random.4691

On game day, I’m planning to have the following items ready for what will be my new Revenant, the goal being to max the masteries, and enjoy the new content – am I missing anything?
-Full lvl 80 heavy set of armor w/sigs
-Full lvl 80 set of weapons, 2 swords, hammer, mace axe, shield, hammer, staff, and spear w/upgrades
-Full lvl 80 set of trinkets (rings, amulets, accessories, back piece)
for me, a mix of exotic and ascended on the above items depending on time/budget
-a +30 scroll and 50 tomes for insta-80
-Ample food w/15% +exp, ie; spicy pumpkin cookie, omnomberry ghost – you may want to have some RL food ready as well :-)
-Ample nourishment (any anti-Mordremoth potions like the scarlet one?) for the +10 exp
-Four 20-slot bags, probably one of them invisible for my play-style
-My unlimited gather-tools and salvage-o-matic
-Will add boosters to taste (birthday, +experience, etc…)

I would advice against going instant -80.
It will lead to poor understanding of the class. Specially cause there will be no good builds available online yet. So I’m personally going into HoT with a different character and will take (some) time with my revenant. My plan is to get atleast 1 waypoint in each map, do all of the personal story (might skip Zhaitan) and get a good amount of hero-points. Byy doing so I expect to gain enough experience for bout 15 levels, and so saving me 15 tomes. I got the full 50 ready if needed, but just not planning on using them.

Played beta, know the spec I plan on using and how it functions. I don’t need a carbon copy build taken from some site, I’m more than capable of creating my own. If fact I already have a build link saved that I created.

Insta 80 and start playing.

Classes* are not content. Multiple games make that mistake and all of them undo it later.

People who are already invested in the game will play it anyway, people who aren’t invested are the ones tempted by the new classes are not going to play until level 80 just to try it.

All I have read so far is “Waaah I had to level so should you”.

*I am aware it is not a class, but changes gameplay to such an extent that it might as well be.

Are you even aware of what content is ?

First, It most certainly is content. If it wasn’t content it would not exist within the game.

Second, its funny you say all you hear is waaah, you’re right but the crying is coming from those that want it changed so they can get their way like spoiled children.

Third, its not the matter of effecting other players, its the fact that it was intended to be 80 content, people need to stop being children and accept that. Players need to stop acting like spoiled children every time they don’t get what they want.

I would like to see legendary gear available to obtain in all game modes instead of constantly favoring the PvE spoiled brats but hey that’s not going to happen so you know what I do ? I accept that it is intended for raids.

Its a reward for hitting 80, something to work towards. Get to 80 and use it as its intended at 80.

Once you have entered a raid area if it was unlocked for your low levels this way you could raid scaled down content so the raids at 80 would be easy peasy because have had the opportunity to play it all the way to 80. Also lets make ascended gear scale down so u can wear it and never have to worry about gear. No healers yet, but tanks are coming

People who enjoy playing healing classes are just lazy. :| I don’t see the appeal or desire, it’s so intensely boring in MMOs and waiting around to find people to fill those roles is annoying. Anet were one of the few developers smart enough to understand that.

That’s quite the opinion you got there. You do realize babysitting 4+ other players is much more difficult than mashing a set rotation while relying on that lazy healer to make sure you’re still alive to mash that rotation. Then again most dps usually play dps because they can’t wrap their minds around having to multi task.

Back on topic, what others said, toughness doesn’t mean tank.
