There will be a new WvW map that’s free, some QoL changes, you can still play the game without the xpac. If you want to raid, play an elite spec, PvE in the jungle, then yes you will need the xpac.

I get how the mastery system would be beneficial… Especially one based upon progressing within the raid. My issue is Gliding and mushroom mastery can only be earned via HoT. Therefore excluding all core players from being able to progress past certain points within raids.

Core players will literally be unable to walk into the Raid – the door is in the expansion lands… Masteries aren’t their first hurdle xD

Then that creates an even MORE fundamental issue… I know just in my guild alone several people who won’t be getting HoT. Will there ever be Raids getting added to Core?

Are you serious?

The fundamental issue is your reading comphrension….

RAIDS are HoT only…. i’m sorry but you gotta buy the xpac if you want raids dude… its not free and it doesn’t have to be free. If you don’t like it, too bad.

You think raids are something that is easy to do for anet? doesn’t have a big cost of resources or anything? It’s a tall task for anet, so its coming in the xpac. I don’t see this as an issue.

Either get the xpac or you are not going to have the content… simple as that.. No point in whining.

ummmm perhaps you can’t read… I have HoT… I’m only playing devil’s advocate for those who choose not to get it. It makes it appear development, at least any substantial ones, have been abandoned for core players.

well you make a fine point, but yeah thats what it boils down to, core is done. they expect everyone who wants to do new stuff to buy the latest expansion.
They only leave in wvw and pvp because it will cripple either mode

It’s not really a valid point, it’s the norm for the industry, side from bug fixes and balancing, core games generally go on the back burner to bring new and exciting content. I haven’t purchased HoT yet because of lack of content, I’m happy to see something I might enjoy is being rolled into the xpac, I’m starting to find reasons why I should buy it now.

You know what would make the druid something to behold? If pets were turned into spirit versions that only appeared when you attack a with a pet attack or action. Basically removing the auto attack from pets and baking it into the ranger itself. That would solve one issue, but as Random said, there would still be the fact that Rangers offer nothing to a group.

Heck, anet could significantly increase the value of both engineers and rangers if they just turned several skills into combo fields.

… yea like engi wouldnt bring anything to the group. Dont insult us… with our fire fields, water fields, smoke fields, poison, frost and light fields we got 14 available fields… 15 if you count in that one of these is either light or smoke with a 50-50 chance and doubles as a wall of reflect on said light field and our arround 15 available blast finishers on skills, kits and weapons that allow for seamless support and additional ones through traits, our aoe heal(s) and pretty solid group condi removal if needed, our pretty darn good cc and good survivability aswell the ability to quickly adapt to pretty much almost every encounter and depending on who you ask highest condi damage in game at this point, sure the rotation is complex for that but possible…aswell pretty darn solid direct damage, especially with grenades and even the bomb kit and vun stacking on EACH explosive related attack…whats quite a lot. Also engi can stack might by just using elixir related skills on the team… just throwing that in. If you really think an engineer got no value to a team then i will point at you and laugh with pleasure and i suggest you to go to the wiki and atleast read what the engi skills do before you throw something THAT stupid on the table.

Your DPS is subpar in PvE, there are some engi’s in PvP but again suffer from sub par damage, in WvW you can be replaced easily by Ele which can do so much more than you (all the fields aren’t needed here, the ones that are can be provided by more rounded classes). You have a role in solo and small group WvW and can excel here, but let’s be real zerg rarely blast fields, they run around mashing 1 while ignoring what the rest of their zerg mates are doing.

Group utility is very important, but so is damage, survivability, support. Currently in PvE you need might fields, maybe a smoke from time to time, these can be provided by classes that can easily double your DPS. Same can be said for WvW organized play where people actually pay attention to fields, might/water/static for speed and the occasional smoke field. You can provide some of these fields but even your fields are sub par to others.

What I should have said originally is you suffer from a combination of lack of support and/or dps. Engi’s have a lot of utility (not always easily recognizable mid fight but you have it) but suffer from DPS. Rangers can provide some DPS but suffer from lack of utility (even their DPS can be sub par due to relying on pets for 30%).

I hope that clears things up for you. You can love your class all you like but it needs help to bring it on par with others.

Raid Content concern

Random.4691

Or, y’know, come to understand that a raid isn’t a stale 5-man dungeon or solo venture. It boils down to communication with the raid team, which is hopefully a group of people you know well. Half the work of a raid is simply getting people ready.

So that’s when you detail what you bring to the group. Sacrificing condi removal in a build to do ____. Then fill in the blank: boons, damage, control? Tell your teammates what you’re good at and they can help you find the best fit for a given fight.

Not to say adjusting your build should be out of the question, but here’s to hoping that the raid designs will take into account a mix of offensive and defensive play styles.

There, he gets a bit of what I am talking about. I am not saying raids should be about a single build… in fact the opposite. I am saying that adjusting a build to meet circumstances will not improve diversity but will still preserve the problem that there is only one build that gets you through a certain circumstance. I want multiple builds from multiple professions and all are viable, though to work as a team there would need to be compatibility of strengths and weaknesses -communication, -skill, etc. This means as a raid there are roles that need to be filled, but as individuals you don’t have to be swapping into a cookie-cut-build that is the “best” for the circumstance. This is already a problem, and if they add this feature (as according to my suspicion) they will only worsen it.

This is always up to individual players, there will ALWAYS be a class or build that is superior, it’s unavoidable. That does not mean other classes cannot do it, it just requires your raid to have open minds and put speed in the backseat and let fun ride shot gun.

I’ll use WoW as an example (I hate WoW but it provides examples). Currently WoW has 4 Tanking Classes, they can all tank but some are just better than others, it changes when they patch and stuff but there is always 1 Tank that is superior. Now you can still Tank with any of the other 3, it might take a bit longer or require a different strategy but it is possible. Usually everyone migrates to the Superior Tank though, because it is the most in demand, it’s up to the players to accept a different Tank that is capable even if its not as easy or fast or whatever the case may be.

Switch builds according to fights. I’ve always viewed raids as an event that takes time, it used to be if you were going on a raid you knew you were investing X amount of time to complete it or to get to X part of it.

In recent years everything has become about speed, I think it’s the wrong direction, if you want a speed clear run a dungeon, if you want to raid, expect to set aside some time.

Before the T3 Migration I was on SBI, late night NA had small scale fights with the occasional mini zerg running around (20-30) so it wasn’t dead it just wasn’t as busy as prime time. Now with the migration, I’m no longer on SBI but I would imagine if anything its only gotten busier then it was.

Conclusion: you should be able to find smaller scale fights and some people to run around with but it won’t always be a large scale experience.

There are quite a few ways they can implement to prevent enrage mode, though. It could be ‘do (x) amount of damage in 10 seconds’, it could be ‘Do 8 CCs in (x) seconds’, or ‘do (x) amount of condition damage or it enrages’.

Except that the actual article says that “[Bosses] most assuredly will enrage if you take too long to kill them.”

It’s really, really not ambiguous at all that Enrage timers are a DPS check in HoT raids.

This could cover so much, just one example is shield, the Boss may have two shields, one makes it immune to physical and one immune to condi and it rotates these shield thoughout the fight so half your dps would need to be zerk physical dmg and the other half would have to be condi.

So many possibilities can come out of that one little statement, it doesn’t mean it all has to be raw zerker power.

You clearly have cherry picked posts.

1) I have explained in other posts what would need to be done if players wanted a rifle spec (majority want sniper). So to be clear I’m not against them having a rifle, I’m against them having a sniper spec without the class being reworked to accommodate this type of spec. I don’t believe a thief should have more Ranged capability than melee, Equal is fine but more ranged than Melee is just silly (imo of course).

2) The horse is dead, stop beating it, let it rest in peace. If and when Anet announces they are adding a second Elite spec to all classes then it is a good time to request your tommy gun play style wishes. There is zero need for why it is a better option than staff at this point because you are getting staff. “Thief will never have a ranged set worth using. Because stealth OP” your words not mine, I have said it would need a rework for a sniper spec which it would, I have never said they won’t get a ranged set because of stealth.

3) If your not trying to enforce your wishes then why do you keep bring up why a ranged spec would be better ? Once again, staff has been chosen, better luck on the next round of specialization.

What you want right now is irrelevant, they aren’t releasing another set of specializations right away so save what you want for when they announce a second round of specs. You see the difference is there is actually nothing wrong with giving an opinion on what you believe would be a good or enjoyable spec, it’s the fact that you keep comparing it to what you’re getting. So in essence you are trying to convince everyone that Anet was wrong and it should have been a rifle.

How many other thieves do you think will want your rifle version vs. the oh so powerful sniper spec ? Personally I like your version, it’s well thought out and it’s not asking for the ridiculous, but I think you’re giving other players way to much credit, most are wanting god mode. So maybe start a thread about what you would like to see in the future, not post about how you hate staff and rifle would have been the better choice.

It’s all about the presentation.

I think people are missing the point.

Zerker is definitely going to have its place in raids, but they’re designing it to (hopefully) not be the ONLY stat you bring. You’re going to need a mix of a party composition. Some zerkers, some more PVT types, some condition types, which is fine. Gutting zerker shouldn’t be the point of challenging content – it should be about specific roles that all need to fulfill their duty to succeed or the group faces the consequences.

This guy gets it.
Zerker will still have a place, it just won’t be the ONLY place.

There’s a very good reason Thieves don’t have 1200 range, it’s been explained multiple times. No I won’t look it up for you, you can go digging for the multiple threads all on your own.

Your ‘very good reason’ equates to ‘nobody in PvP wants to get head-shotted by a stealthy guy with high mobility, so Thieves should never have a ranged set!’

Fun fact for you – my flamethrower Engineer is more mobile than the majority of Thief builds. Often by a significant factor. Thieves are hardly the only class in the game that can build to be difficult to pin down. As for stealth and one-shots?

Don’t put a C&D equivalent on the ranged weapon set. Build the ranged weapon around numerous small hits (AR/SMG-style rifle skills, rather than sniper cannon), rather than single larger strikes. Done. I’ve had plenty of ideas for new and intriguing ranged sets for Thief that don’t center on BOOMHEADSHOT, both for potential Rifle and rebuilds of Pistol. Doesn’t matter what I think would be cool, though – that’s in ArenaNet’s hands.

Unfortunately. Since Arenanet pays undue attention to their PvP folks, and most of those are of the completely erroneous opinion that it’s impossible for Thieves to be built in such a way as to not be C&D spammers.

First of its not “my” very good reason, several people have explained this and the absence of thieves having rifle leads many to believe that Anet also realizes the reason. Second stop man, you sound like a child, you are not going to get your way no matter how much you spaz, deal with it.

I’ve never understood this need for PvE skins and stuff from WvW. The only reason I wish the drops were a bit better is that it would make it easier to afford wasting gold on upgrades, traps, and blueprints. Yeah I got some weapon skin from one of the tournaments. No, I haven’t used it.

I can understand wanting ascended, since the stats are an improvement over exotic, but afaik the legendary weapons have the same stats as ascended and the latter are far cheaper to acquire, so I don’t get the appeal. If I wanted PvE skins to parade around in, I’d play PvE.

The ability to change the stats on your gear on the fly is a huge bonus for WvW. Different styles of play require different stats, solo, Small Man, Zerg, GvG, Organized Zerg busting. They all require different stats to be the most optimal, that is why Legendary is better then trying to craft several different sets of ascended.

I actually enjoy P/P thief, its a bit more challenging but it functions ok (not to be confused with it works great). Thieves are not a ranged class, nor were they intended to be. The current Range sets could use some work, but, adding an entirely new ranged weapon gives them more ranged than melee, hell it gives them more ranged options than a Ranger, it doesn’t fix the current issues at all. The weapon sets as a theme are fine, they just need some tuning, what they don’t need is to be left as is and replaced because you want a rifle.

Because MH Sword didn’t have a high-damage hindering cleave for an autoattack or anything. Oh, no.

The gadzooking worthless low-damage null-value badly animated total-junk Staff DOESN’T EVEN HIT MORE TARGETS THAN SWORD DOES. You have to spend Initiative to get Weakness on Staff, instead of it being baked into the AA on Sword, the Staff deals half the damage Sword does…

The Daredevil’s utilities and traits look like they could be a ton of fun. But I have no interest whatsoever in the weapon. MH Sword does more with its autoattack than the entirety of the Staff across all five skill slots. Utter, criminal waste of a weapon.

Now a days, it’s pretty hard to cultivate a low population server, mega servers took care of that. Back when you could go into PvE and get players on your server to hop in to WvW it was possible but long gone are those days.

It’s currently being acknowledged within the Ranger community (perhaps not by all, but certainly by a noticeable number) that this could be the make-or-break for the Ranger. For me, I think even if Druid is underwhelming I’ll still play it just because it’s always been my favourite archetype in MMOs.

This perfectly illustrates my issue surrounding how Rangers are discussed on the forums. The class isn’t ideal, but it is fun, at least for me. If it isn’t fun, then why are you playing it? Are you some kind of sick gaming masochist?

You see all of this hyperbolic rhetoric about how “broken” the profession is (there are bugs, and pet AI can be improved, but it is far from “broken”), with some even complaining that it is unplayable, but these people still play (and presumably have fun with) it.

So no, if you are going to continue to play Ranger if you don’t like Druid, it’s not make-or-break. It could be a disappointment to you based on your expectations, but you’ve already indicated that it is still worth playing despite an underwhelming Druid.

So stop QQing and just play the kitten game…

There are two parts to the story and you’re only telling 1 part. I enjoy the ranger, you’re right it’s not perfect but it is fun. That’s the first part, here’s the second. I enjoy playing with other people, I enjoy WvW and organized combat, I would like the class I enjoy to be desired so I am not forced to either play by myself because no one desires a Ranger or play a class that is not a Ranger. I hear it is the same case in PvE & PvP.

Anet needs to make sure all classes are desirable, this is an MMO after all. There will always be a class or two that is OP, it’s the nature of the beast but it is entirely possible to make ALL classes useful.

I have all Classes at 80, each class has a minimum of 3 sets of armor, some as many as 6. Depending on the situation and what I’m doing, build & gear can change frequently. You want to PvE ? That’s 1 set, want to speed clear a dungeon ? that’s another set, running in a zerg in WvW ? that’s another set, want to run in an organized guild ? yup another set, slow night and planning to run solo ? another set, slow night but couple friends on so running small man ? again it’s another set.

The advantage is the ability to change your stats on the fly. Figure out how much a complete ascended set would cost then multiply that by every set of armor, that is the value of Legendary vs. Ascended.

thats not really and edge. if anything it’s more of a luxury provided only to those who took on an beat the hard task of completing very difficult content. I also don’t see how running around in zerg in wvw can be equated to the challenge an incredibly hard raid that requires much more co-ordination and planning. WvW rewards in essence come from just playing alot of WvW being the best doesn’t have as much to do with it. in the case of raids however being the top of the mountain in regards to PVE players is more critical to what challenges you and your team will achieve and so your reward needs to meet the challenge.

I don’t see how a scripted fight could possibly be viewed as more difficult than battling real people who are not scripted and ever changing. All WvW is not zergs running around, there is more to it than that, it also requires more time and effort as it currently is a 24/7 effort, a raid is not. Having the ability to change stats in WvW is extremely valuable, possibly more so than in PvE by the way you write it off as a simple luxury.

I find that hard to believe but I’ve been wrong before. You would be one of the minority, I’m pretty sure the outcry would be monumental if this happened.

See I don’t believe players should be forced to play ANY mode in a game that advertised play your own way. I can’t stand PvE but I do respect that others love it. I believe it should be obtainable in all modes, creating a fitting scenario to earn them in WvW would be another story. It would have to be linked to something that is actually challenging.

The thing is we are talking about legendary armor here. It should never be “easy” to get because it has the potential to crash the economy. Allowing players to get the armor through any kind of content would just mean an endless grind, like the legendary weapons.

No ones asking for easy, I never said you get a piece for taking a keep, it would have to be linked to # of kills or # of keeps taken both of which would need to be in line with the length of time it take to get a piece from a raid.

  1. of kills and # of keeps is hardly something you can balance as it depends heavily on time of day and server population. There are also different Keeps, on your own Borderlands which are much easier to take, on enemy borderlands or in EB. There are way too many variables and I guess that’s one of the main reasons WvW rewards have been lacking all this time.

I don’t know what they are planning to fix the rewards in WvW but something needs to change there too.

It was an example of how it could be implemented, the point is it would need to be within the same difficulty realm as a raid, however it was done.

The why is easy, it’s giving one mode an advantage over another. Now if you want unique, I would be all for unique skins per mode, they can all obtain the stats and presumably the ability to change stats like Legendary weapons, yet each mode would have their own specific skins. It’s the difference that a WvW player will be forced to raid if they want the gear or craft several sets of ascended armor for the stat changes.
