Hi Everyone,
Someone recently called me out for seeking to create unbalanced matchups. Leaping in to turn a 1 v 1 into a 2 v 1. I thought this was just part of the game. Usually when I get killed I’m getting focus fired by 2+ other people.
Is this the wrong way to think about the game? (Note this is all practice arena so idk if that makes a difference).

i never used the practice arena button, i always just choose a server. can the practice button dump you into a dueling server? if it can, then that’s prob what happened, and why they were upset. but its an understandable mistake for you if thats what happened
No it can’t.
Duelling servers don’t use standard settings (1 player per side instead of 5, instant respawn, etc.)

But aren’t the stealth-openers the bigger problem than the sigils? I mean, if spiked dps is the real problem…. Bc if you at least see the opponents, there are tons of things you can do to stop a spike:
- blind
- targeted CC like interrupts
- dodge the important stuff (no way of dodging at the right time if you don’t see the enemies animation)
- CD’sWith stealth, dodges are just random if you feel like they might jump you and CC is more or less reduced to AoE insta-stuff…
Fire and air adds damage to the stealth opener, all those things you mentioned require you to know that the enemy is using an important attack, which you can’t tell with fire/air sigils since they proc randomly.

Your definition of meta doesn’t make sense. You don’t generally see 5 celestial teams either, does that mean celestial isn’t meta?
Fire/Air sigils do not define the meta right now. They might be meta on zerk classes, but they do not define the meta.
Support, sustain, and mobility define the current meta.
You didn’t say anything about defining the meta, you simply said they weren’t meta – they are certainly meta on berserker classes but don’t necessarily define the overall meta.

this thread makes me laugh, but the only absolute 100% immediate signs of failure are
- when someone comes home at start with you to help cap (but if you leave, they follow you without capping????)
and
- when your comp has three mesmers (in conquest mode anyway)everything else, there’s always a chance.
3 mesmers isn’t actually that bad if the enemy team is not full premade and has no thieves.

Why is this 3 month old topic being bumped? I thought they already fixed it so that swapping classes is included in the 1 minute grace period.
Did they? Can you provide a link for that? I am not sure, but it seems that every time I swap characters before match my points go down when we win. I am sick of fighting premades with having team of 3 thiefs, mesmer and ele, that’s why I always try to change to something more appropriate and help as much as possible because I would like to have some decent fights with chance to win. I have lost many points because of this, but I just don’t care, MMR and leaderboards are broken anyway…

At the moment many people farm for their beta key so PvP is even less populated. Lesser population means fewer matchmaking options.
I don’t think people are avoiding ranked PvP because of beta key farming. Check your friends list and see how many are actually farming.
If they ARE choosing to mindlessly farm versus PvP, then that is even more indicative of problems with this game.
IMO, most people aren’t doing ranked because the leaderboard is a joke and the matchmaking is equally bad.
It’s almost unfathomable that ANET…
1. CHANGED from an MMR based leaderboard to this grind based model
2. CHANGED from the totally logical and fair model of separating premade and solo quers to a system.
3. Match totally new players against (and with) very experienced players.Think of ANY other game…not just MMOs…how popular do you think that game would be with players with all of the above ridiculousness.
Exactly how I feel at the moment. I always solo que because I que when I want, not on my team’s schedule, but after this I’ll be teaming up.
Who says you need a fixed team to queue with a team? Make friends in soloq, group together with friends that are online, make more friends from queues, repeat until you’re always able to throw together a spontaneous team.

Sure, they are choosing mindless farming. There is actually a nice unique reward to get -> a beta portal.
What do you get currently from playing pvp?

When I said ‘minus’ I literally meant a subtraction. We assume players with ‘unsure’ ratings are probably on the less-skill side. As mmr becomes more accurate, that difference becomes very small.
So, hang on. If you have a high rating and start winning over 50% of your games, your deviation will increase because you’re winning. So does that mean, if your deviation increases by more than your rating changed, your MMR effectively goes down?
I don’t think you understand what deviation is. Deviation is the amount of uncertainty, a player who is fairly new or constantly gets unpredicted match results will have a large deviation.
If your deviation has settled, both your MMR and deviation will move very slowly. Your deviation will move slower than your MMR since the system will assume you’re just having a lucky run (which is the whole point of the glicko system).

I’m aiming for the dungeon collection achievements and it’s extremely annoying how the track jumps to one of the region tracks upon completion. It also means I get these loot boxes that don’t stack with boxes from other tracks and instead fill up space unnecessarily.

It would be extremely helpful if there was some sort of MMR indicator for your own team, so people can make rough judgements on who’s likely to hold out in a 1v1 and who needs to be told when/where to rotate. Lower mmr players would also be more likely to listen to players marked as higher mmr.
This could be achieved through an icon similar to world completion, title for reaching milestones or simply by placing players in the team list in order of mmr.

The most well known one is the [Angz] King of the Hill 1v1 server, it occasionally reaches max capacity during peak times, on which case you can simply search for 1v1 or king of the hill on the server list to find others.

Skill points are only given at certain levels as level up rewards, not every level.

Roster size is the number of people in a premade party. The distance would be the difference in the size of premades between the two teams.
Premades add something like 2% rating per person in the party.

On that map you should help cap Stillness when it appears as the holder gets all three points insta flipped it.

I’ve died on my mesmer and failed to secure a kill on my ele so many times due to this bug. The most common occurrence is when I’m on the point in the middle of Legacy of the Foefire and try to port up onto one of the lower ledges on the side of the point and have to spam around the place in order to get it. Note that I’m aiming on the ground and not on the wall.
I don’t remember having this issue before the port changes.

Where are the super pros now saying turret engi lowbobs are just present in low to mid tier rankings? Even a rank 80 warrior stood no chance against an engi with turret syndrom.
Rank 80 means nothing. You get that in like 2-3 months regardless of how good you are.

I think that in this tournament seeding should be completely random. All other tournaments are already seeded in a way that newcomers won’t ever have any chance of succeeding.
I disagree. In this case you could have one top team being knocked out in round 1 by another top team and therefore getting no reward, while a relatively new team goes up against 3 other relatively new teams in succession and gets a significant reward despite not being nearly as good as the top team that was knocked out in the first round. This is simply not fair.
That is a real reason why competitive scene is so small.
So small that 64 teams in each region had signed up in under 6 hours for said tournament?

Can anyone explain me a little bit more detailled how participating in the other tournaments(acadamy,esl) will influence your first round?
I would suggest you have a quick look over this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seed_%28sports%29
You’ll see that higher seeded teams are placed against lower seeded teams in the first round, therefore having a fairly high chance of progressing to later rounds.
This is used in sports to keep the more interesting games to the quarter-/semi-/finals since those matches will attract the largest audience.
It’s therefore in your best interest to get a higher seeding by playing in these tournaments.

A large number of people in ranked queue still seem to think that going for NPCs in the middle of the game instead of capture points is a good thing, despite people constantly telling them that it’s not.

Please don’t. Next to turret engie, this is the last build that needs a buff. If you’re not ripping up the competition with shatter mes, you’re doing it wrong.
If it’s so overpowered, then why doesn’t every top team run a mesmer? On the other hand, pretty much every top team runs with a thief and ele.

Immo is a soft CC which is condition, not a CC which can interrupt.
A soft CC is a CC. Just because something is a subgroup of a group does not exclude it from that group….
The problem here is in this game
CC is considered as something which you can use to interrupt people.

PvE bosses gain defiance when targetted by CCs and cannot be hit by CCs while defiant.
They can be immobilised.
Therefore, an immobilise is not a CC in this game.

Hello, I heard from a player that you need to win some kind of G4ESLWEEKLY or MONTLY, to qualify? Is this this true? They way I read the announcement was that players of all skill-levels could join? Maby I misread something, can I have some clarification on this please?
No this is not true. Winning these tournaments will however have an effect on who you play against in the first few rounds.

Giving something PVE players want is a good way to make them try PVP, but that kind of reward is only acceptable for casual and ingame playing and it should be something that gives progression. That’s why instead of the current leaderboards they should be creating a league with divisions, where only winning maches in the lowest division could give you mini pets. And Lavish lama only if they are promoted. Take mystic forge off the equation (there isnt one in PvP, so why do we have to use it?)
Anet made a good decision with offgame and serious Tournaments, but chose a bad reward for the target players playing them.The title system needs to be remade NOW! It’s so useless right now that gives them no alternative to minis when looking for a reward that gives progression. Watch one of wooden potatoes videos about top 10 things he wants for feature pach, where he talks about titles and their potential.
We also need Unique skins and outfits for PVP. They have the same potential.PVE players want mini pets as they are things who can be farmed in multpile ways, with multiple substitutes and are also visible in PVE and WvW. PVP players want PVP-only rewards that can be won by doing more competitive PVP and require more skill and knowledge about PVP.
I hope ArenaNet makes the right decisions in the future with the data gathered from this ToL3.
Have you considered the fact that it’s close to impossible for a pure pvper to get a legendary from normal pvp and ToL gives an opportunity for dedicated pvpers to get those?
