To clarify: $50 is the price of the expansion. We included the core game as a free bonus to make it easier for new players to get into it.
No you did not include the core game for free…
You added $10.00 to the price of the core game and added the expansion.
Had you added a character slot or two for those of us with existing accounts in place of the core game (since we already have the core game) you might not be getting such a backlash as you are now.
We the players come from very different backgrounds and a good chunk of us are well educated and those of us with degrees have sat in marketing classes.
Not all of us can be taken for fools so easily.
Stop the white knight.
Two people go into same shop to buy a bundle made out of 2 items, lets call the item BOB, Person 1 already have a BOB and person two dont.
Bundle contains BOB and a expansion for BOB.The Problem is when you leave the store, a store clerk come running after you and say to the one: Sorry Sir, but i see that you already have BOB at home and takes your BOB away.
Both payed the same amount, How do you think person 1 feels now ?
This is the main reason people are getting so angry. We hate when other steal from us
BEAUTIFULLY PUT!!!
Let’s see…
The Core game was $39.99 yesterday
The Core game + HoT is $49.99 today.
The expansion is $10.00.
Players that already bought into this that already had accounts either failed basic Math in school or are fools that deserve to be parted from their money.
If the Expansion is $50 (like it has been clarified on facebook) then the bundles should be an additional $39.99.
OP, the problem a lot of us are having isn’t the value of the Ultimate Edition, it’s the base priced one. Simply being, the cost of entry should be lower. I was estimating the base/vanilla expansion to be about about $30-$40. If I owned only one account I would probably get the Ultimate one too. But, for me to do that now it would cost more than some make in a whole month! That’s the other issue with pricing, it’s appears to be based around the high cost of living area’s of the US. $100 is a lot of money in other parts of the planet when you factor in exchange rates.
Don’t forget that areas around Seattle have a $15 minimum wage.
Let me amend this…
I called the FTC and told them is was going to sound strange because this is a video game.
They said it was not strange and that they actually get calls about deceptive business practices like this (and they said this IS a deceptive practice) often and pointed me to the Better Business Bureau in order to report this.
1. Does the purchase of HoT mean that I will be purchasing an additional account?
The way the advertizement reads, yes.
2. If one already has the core game, how will HoT be applied?
I have not found an answer to this. It looks like you have to buy a new account.
3. Will HoT be available as a stand alone? (just the expansion without the core game)
It had better be. Considering the core game is $39.99 and the Core+HoT is $49.99, it better only be $10.00.
4. Will the core game included in HoT be a new build in which HoT will operate on?
No idea
All-in-all:
Report ANet for Deceptive/Bad business practices. Here is the link to the Federal Trade Commission
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/media/video-0054-how-file-complaint
With how the cheapest advertizement reads, We are buying a new account since it comes with the core game.
I already have an account and I refuse to pay for another account.
I’m sending the link to the pre-purchase page to an attorney along with the advertizements for the core game showing the core game being $39.99 while the lowest offered is $49.99 since they do not have an “Expansion Only” option for those of us that already have the core game.
This means those of us that already have accounts should have $39.99 knocked off those prices.
I’m just waiting on ANet Support’s response.
You know you can hit F12 to get a different menu that let’s you choose between logging out and character select, right?
I actually never even knew that was an option- thanks xD
We asked for the same F12 menu from GW1 right after launch…
I think we waited only about 2-3 weeks and ANet gave us it. One of the fastest request fulfillments ANet ever did.
I could get behind this too as long as it stayed in the Guild Halls…
BUT
Be careful what you wish for. Most Pro-Dueling players want to duel with their PvE gear setups and not their PvP setups. If ANet gives guild halls dueling, it might be done with the PvP setup so they don’t have to worry about balance issues.
Mesmer magic. Most of this has been built already but you can’t see it. The workers are all mesmers. If you recall the nightmare tower it was the same way.
Yeah, Mesmers are hiding the progress. LOL
Reminding of guild rules aside from the 100% rep and kicking for violating any guild rules aside from the 100% rep would not be harassment nor discriminatory.
The 100% Rep rule can be seen on these grounds due to the exclusiveness it forces.
I’m not saying ANet will do anything about it, but those would be the way to report a guild officer harping on a member to 100% rep or to report a guild officer for kicking someone who did not 100% rep.
I will still stand by the mindset that Character Based guild membership was a bad idea and should have never been implemented because of guilds that create the “100% Rep Rule.” You never see 100% Rep rules when guild memberships are account based. And you definitely don’t get the “100% Rep” politics on the forums.
The only thing that I can see it falling under is harassment/discrimination.
Constantly reminding of the 100% rep rule could fall under harassment.
Kicking from the guild because the member repped another guild could fall under discrimination.
At the end of the day, ANet should have stayed with the Account Based Guild Membership from GW1 instead of going on to this Character Based system that does nothing but cause these “100% Rep” rules to be made.

No need to suspend your disbelief, it has already been explained:
Construction projects are dependent on workers and weather, both of which can be unpredictable. But while we don’t have a date for the final unveiling, we can say that—due to the advantages of off-site construction—one morning in the next few months you’ll awake to a newly refreshed Lion’s Arch.
Near the bottom under the Celebrate header.
For an outfit based on a human goddess, You’ think they’d restrict it to humans only.
And I reserve my Tin Foil pics for players spouting that Nexon is forcing ANet or NCSOFT to do X or Y.
You tin foil hat me and I DID NOT say that Nexon was trying to control ANet.
I pointed out that an employee has Nexon in their resume and therefore is going to be un-trusted by the gamers. She’s not being looked at as a mole or any other silliness. It also doesn’t matter that she worked for ANet first then went to Nexon and then came back.
The blight of working for Nexon is still there. Players will see this.
You have obviously never been an employee of a company that has a bad reputation among its target customers. It isn’t fun. I know how she feels, but that means she has to do what I had to do which was to prove that I was not of the mind set of the bad company.
Its about 9 gold for every 100k karma. Theres a heart in bloodtide coast that gives you Crab Grabbin Gloves put 4 of these in the forge and salvage what you get back for linen. Heart is in Archen Foreland
Putting soulbound karma gear in the toilet gets you soulbound karma gear.
This was nerfed months ago.
Honestly I thought players would be happy with the notion that new armor sets will be earnable in game. Every time they came out with an outfit in the Gem Shop the cry goes out for armor instead. So guess what, they heard of you and now are making it in game and there are still complaints? They can’t win for losing.
While we want this to be true, the fact remains that her resume includes Nexon which is well known to be all about the cash shop.
It is just like when you go to find work and there is that one company on your resume that no one wants to hire from. You’re not going to be trusted very easily.
That is pretty much what is happening here. It doesn’t matter whether or not Nexon has any say, she worked with them and that is enough to make the players leery of what she has to say. They will have to deliver enough for us to see past it.
Any armor sets that “magically” start appearing when a player uses something bought from the gem store WILL erode that trust even further.
I have an ASUS K73E that worked well until I converted it to Linux.
2900 hours over the last 1006 days…
Of course I earned two A.S. degrees since I’ve been playing and I work.
You want more modest armors???
Go play Forsaken World then. It is the only MMO that I know which has progressively increased covering armor as you level up. You want skimpy armor in that game, you’ll be paying upwards around $50 for the skins.
Level 0 = Skimpy School girl
Level 80 = 10 tons of fabric
I believe ANet already stated that women helped in designing the armors, so the “Did a woman help…” line won’t work.
Sex sells and ANet knows it just like every other MMO out there.
October 13, Tuesday, 2015. I’ll wager 500 quatloos.
Ah, a very sensible format.
Tuesday July 14 (Wednesday 15 for me), 2015.
Won’t happen on my birfday…
I’m not that lucky.
How about I just post a linky to the artist’s wiki page over at GW1 Wiki…
Figured I throw this out there in case it hasn’t…
Why not name them Seraphim instead of Dragon Hunter?
Guardian now a Dragonhunter? Whats next? Warrior a Paladin?
warrior spec is gonna be called plant exterminator
Naw it will likely be “Gardener.”
Though I think “Weed Whacker” would be better.
dailies were better when i could complete them in any region of the world. But now i find myself looking at the check list and not even bothering. anyone else?
They were revamped to get PvE players to explore Tyria.
Pretty sad that players sat in the PvE starter areas to do their dailies, even sadder that players are complaining that they have to leave their PvE starter area comfort zones.
My nephew made the same complaint and I told him, “You character is level 80, go somewhere other than Queensdale for a change.”

You guys are crazy to think $20-$30 for HoT. Since when is an expansion only $20?
I want to say I payed $50 each for factions and nightfall and $40 Eye of the north. I’m planning on a 50 price tag, which I will gladly pay, but not be surprised if it’s $40.
I’m assuming they will do a sale of the base game for $10 to give people the chance to buy both at the same time. $10+$40=$50 or $10+$50=$60. Perfectly priced in my opinion.
And for all you people saying it should be free kitten. You have no idea of what an awesome game this is and how it broke the mold of a mmo. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you are a child with no job.And what makes your rude self think that this game will have even a third of the content EoTN, Factions, or Nighfall had?
From the looks of it we get 1 new professions, 1 new weapon for each existing profession, a handful of maps, masteries.
Can you list the content that makes this purchase worth what any of the GW1 expansions cost?
Edit: And 1 new WvW and 1 new PvP map.
I don’t care if it has the same content amount or not. I will blindly pay the money and enjoy every moment of it.
Why do I get the feeling you’d be the first one to the forums after you completed it in the span of 24-48 hours….
Complaining that you paid too much.

The wife also reminded me that most MMOs include two months of subscription fees to their expansions. So, subtract $30 from those expansions to get the cost of the expansion without the subscription fees.
Just because the higher ups say ok, doesn’t mean the the dept. who worked on the graphics are cool with it.
Even though they are just injectors, the graphics dept. probably feel insulted and want to prevent players from “enhancing” the work they did.
With that said, it might not be ANet per se, but might be the graphics dept.

Can’t say much about the full GW1 set. The wife and I got the full set in ’08 (me) and ’09 (wife) for $30 and $20 respectively.

@ Andred, They can only get away with it when players stay blissfully ignorant and not do comparisons. Wait a few days for the players with DEEP pockets to brag and update the wiki to see how much content is there before you buy. Just don’t forget that the Core game is $40 and HoT is only a fraction of the content. Vote with your wallet.
@ Dakinia, the obvious P2W games aside, how much content was there compared to the Core? Any expansion I’ve gotten for ANY of my games at $50-$60 were virtually stand alone.
Examples
Mechwarrior 2: Ghost Bear’s Legacy – Stand alone expansion to Mechwarrior 2 and required MW2 just to be installed. Additional content was about 80% of the Core in quantity. More maps, full campaign, additional ’Mechs.
Mechwarrior 3: Pirate’s Moon – Stand alone expansion to Mechwarrior 3 and required MW3 just to be installed. Additional content was about 70-80% of the Core in quantity. More maps, full campaign, additional ’Mechs.
Mechwarrior 4: Black Knight – Stand alone expansion to Mechwarrior 4: Vengence and required MW4 just to be installed. Additional content was about 80-90% of the Core in quantity. More maps, full campaign, additional ’Mechs.
DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil – Stand alone expansion to DOOM 3 and required DOOM 3 just to be installed. Additional content was about 65-80% of the Core in quantity. More maps, full campaign, additional weapons.
Wow, that makes me really old. Have modern gamers REALLY allowed game makers to screw them over so easily through ignorance?
This kittening point is bug u can go check if u want
Was that really necessary?
The wife and I just finish Bloodtide Coast with a few characters over the weekend and had no problems.
Now, I did just log in and tried it out and will agree that it is bugged.
I was also pointing out the in-game feedback that no one seems to know about. There are 3 red thumbs down plaques that turn into blue thumbs up with each successful hit.
You don’t see me going crazy on the forums because the guardian shout, “Save Yourselves,” isn’t working properly (not applying to allies). I calmly submitted a bug report and since it was Sunday, I know it will be around 1100 to 1300 my time on Monday before anyone at ANet will see it.
Have you ever thought that ANet might be trying to make GW2 completely incompatible with SweetFX and GemFX on purpose?
Seeing more of these patches knock out those two might be trying to get a hint across.
Just my 2 cents though.
There is feedback on that skill point.
There are 3 flags on the rampart of the fort you are firing from that change to a “blue thumbs up” when you hit a target.
Only need to hit 3 targets.
I have no problems with it, are you just pressing and releasing the fire skill? You need to hold it down longer to fire further.

And it is a point that needs to be made so that everyone can make an informed decision.
If they try to put HoT out for more than $30, the wife and I will wait until a sale comes down the pipe.
We’ll just put up with the harassment in the Dungeon lines for not having a Specialization or the Revenant. And keep filling out the harassment reports.

The base game had 8 professions, 5 races, lots of maps, multiple weapons per profession, lots of dungeons, WvW, PvP.
The new game has 1 profession, 0 races, a handful (probably) of maps, 1 new weapon per profession, 0 new dungeons, 1 new WvW map, 1 new PvP map and some masteries.
If we’re making proportional comparisons, this expansion should be worth $5-$10, or about the cost of your average gem store outfit.
When you tally in everything then divide it up, you are probably closer to the mark than I was.

When looking at the amount of content that has been hyped, it better be no more than $20 USD.
$40-$60 got us 20+ PvE maps, a full personal story, 8 professions, 5-6 PvP maps, 4 WvW maps, and 5 character slots.
HoT hype is 1 new profession, no character slots, maybe 5 or 6 new PvE maps, 1 new PvP map, and 1 new WvW map.
When compared content wise, Heart of Thorns IS NOT worth any more than $20-$25 USD.
Comparing the price of the original game and content to HoT price and content is silly. There is a standard price for games and expansions that is usually always followed. $60 for a new game and around $30 to $40 for an expansion.
The reason they get away with stupid prices like that is because too many players DON’T do that comparison. It is not silly.
Are you seriously willing to pay as much as the current price of the core game ($41.66 at Wal-Mart) and get LESS THAN HALF of the content of core game just for the expansion?
Now THAT is plain silly.

Don’t forget though, while some states have legalized it for recreational use and other have legalized it for medical use…
It is still illegal on the federal level across all 50 states.
I tried this to see if I could replicate this. My client crashed
While I did not get all the achievements, it did set the character I used to 0% Map Completion.
Nope.
That seems to be the only fast Karma farm.
I have the same “Connection Error detected” issue. I’ll just leave the loader open and eventually actually succeed in “retrying…”
I went to close my client and then it immediately connected and started patching.
Patching right now.
After reading the updates, finally there will accountability for players who kick players without a very good reason.
Players can’t learn the dungeon paths if they are booted for being slow or not the “meta.”
I’ll not echo everyone else since even I agree to Report, Block, and move on…
The problem is that they are Maize farming a Heart and getting belligerent with players that are completing the heart and tagging a few in the process.
Oh, Gratz on the drop.
People were saying this change should be made since forever. I’m glad it’s happened but i do wonder how it managed to take so long for them to come around and impliment it.
Sales…
The new blood that caused the NPE was likely a driving force. As we have seen in this thread GW2 has at least 4 player types:
PvP
WvW
PvE
Any mix of the three
We all have the option to play in any mode right after the starting instance and never look back. Forcing players to do certain things is not the way to make money for the company.
Plus, the fact that legendary weapons can be bought and sold on the TP has seriously turned them into vanity items. Either you have the lack of RL commitment that allows you to play for days on end to craft them constantly/farm enough gold to buy them OR you have a really good paying job without any further financial commitment so you can break out the credit/debt/paypal and just buy gems to convert to gold in order to buy one.
In the end, WvW players got what they wanted which was the removal of PvE players taking up slots in WvW and PvE players got what they wanted which was the removal of WvW from World Completion.
I look at it this way…
WvW combat will likely get better since PvE only players won’t be there taking up a slot just to do exploration.
While I did get my 100% done, I welcome the change since WvW will now feel more optional to me and I may start actively playing WvW like I have with PvP. Granted I stay in Unranked PvP, but I at least dabble in it enough to be PvP level 32 which is big for me since I HATE PvP.
Now if only ANet would prevent pre-made teams from going up against PUG teams in Unranked PvP then we should be all good.
Other than the disturbing issue of A-Net giving an official endorsement of don’t resurrect your teammates.
Calling Gaile’s personal opinion “official endorsement” is the reason none of us can have nice things. Your inability to distinguish between the two is, to use the word you used, disturbing.
She never said nor specified that it was her personal opinion.
There was no IMO, IMHO, nor any other form of designating her comment as her opinion.
Therefore it is being seen as an official endorsement that big events are a license to not res anyone.
I just make it a point to declare that during Tequatl, Silverwastes, etc. People should not be ressing the fulling dead and that the dead should WP and get back.
And that makes infinite sense to me.
Did you seriously just bless this?
You guys at ANet designed this game to be a team effort and took away dedicated Healers/Revivers and gave us ALL the ability to res each other to encourage Team Work.
Now you just threw everyone under the bus since now the “WP if you’re Dead/Don’t res the Dead” group can now say “ANet says so.”
I can not believe you did that.
Just think on this though…
$50-$65 got us:
the original Personal Story
8 professions
5 character slots
6 towns
25 PvE Maps
4 WvW maps
6-7 PvP Maps
That sets the bar. If they want us to spend $40 – $50 on an expansion, it had better be Cantha or Elona with 2 professions and 2 character slots.
With what has been announced, $20 is fair seeing as how LS 2 costs that much to open up. Throw on a Character slot and maybe $30 will be fair.
