I will revise my stance on Rangers:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ranger

: a person in charge of managing and protecting part of a public forest
: a person in charge of managing and protecting part of a national park
: a soldier in the U.S. Army who has special training especially in fighting at close range

With “Ranger” defined, we all can see that a Ranger could even be a sub-class of a Warrior. This would be the sniper everyone wants and they would even wear heavy armor.

Taking away the third definition that makes Rangers part of the Warrior classification, Rangers are meant as a forest “law enforcement officer.” Take away the LotR and Elf (this is not LotR) influence while we are taking away the Warrior aspect of the Ranger to make a proper forest profession would drop a Ranger to using:

Bows
Rifles
Pistols (off-hand)
Axes
Daggers (off-hand)
Harpoon Gun
Spear

Guardians should be able to use everything the Warrior uses plus “mage” weapons since Guardians are Mage/Healer versions of the Warrior.

Technically Elementalists, Mesmers, and Necromancers should be able to use all weapons because as “Mage” types, they “channel” through items. Being a practicing Druid, I can tell you that if I so choose I can use any object to Scry, Channel, or Focus through. Physical strength has nothing to do with it. I use a dagger, a cutlass, or a Zweihander as my “wands.” I even channel through whatever weapon I’m hunting with.

That leaves Thieves and Engineers.
Engineers are natural tinkerers. They would be the ones that would modify whatever weapon they got their hands on for their own use. They would be the ones that would find a way to make arrows “seek” their targets and go around obstacles to hit the target.
They’d forgo staffs, scepters, swords, greatswords, and daggers. They’d even forgo the short bow in favor of the longer reach of the long bow.

Thieves…
I’d add the long bow to their weapon selection.

Ranger is basically a hunter, so it never made sense for them to carry a GS. In a way, the sword is pushing it too.

Coming from a family of hunters, the bows, rifles, pistols, and daggers make sense.

Adding Districts into game maps?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ravion Hawk.4736

Ravion Hawk.4736

The megaserver was meant to put low population maps together so we didn’t have “dead” maps anymore.

Districts would undo that by making “dead” maps again because the major guilds would tell everyone to go to “X” district, which would likely not be within the first 5 districts, to organize the events. This would also cause some guilds/groups to “snub” everyone that doesn’t play their way and go to a different district.

It would also allow the farming bots to hide again. The best thing that happened with the megaserver was being able to find and report the bots that were hiding on “dead” maps.

Technically not a comment but the guy in Divinitys Reach coughing is quite annoying.

My favorite which properly made me laugh out loud has to be the random “I… enjoy pie”

I tell my wife every time he says that:

Then I growl at her computer because we named it GLaDOS.

On top of that, elementalists already have more than half of the current weapon selection. Dagger, focus, scepter, staff, trident, axe, hammer, both bows, shield, and great sword. That leaves mace, pistol, sword, rifle, torch, warhorn, harpoon gun, and spear….

When did the Elementalist start getting to use the Axe, Hammer, Greatsword, Shield, and both Bows?

I’m looking at only Dagger, Scepter, Staff, Focus, and Trident as equip-able weapons.

The others are conjured weapons.

Though I would support an argument that they already have certain attunement skills for said conjured weapons to build off of to make them equip-able weapons. But that means they would have to replace 4 utility skills and 1 elite skill.

A better work around would be to give the offending headgear two hairstyles (male and female) that is part of the headgear. Let the hair take the color of the character’s hair while giving it a temporary new look.

Example, the GW2 baseball cap could have short hair for males while having a pony tail out the back of the hat with some hair to be seen below the hat for females.

PvE Dueling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ravion Hawk.4736

Ravion Hawk.4736

I watched this enough in other MMOs that allowed dueling in PvE:

Situation 1
Troll tries to duel X
X declines (insert any reason here)
Troll verbally attacks X in chat
More Trolls join in.

Situation 2
Troll tries to duel X
X has auto-decline active
Troll verbally attacks X in chat
More Trolls join in.

Both situations usually escalates to the point that the trolls try to duel everyone on the map and verbally attack anyone that doesn’t duel them.

No Dueling in PvE, go to the Mists and find a 1v1 or start a dueling only server.

GW2 precursor event...

Precursor = Came before

I honestly wouldn’t want the ability to craft a precursor just to make a legendary.

I’d go for a “Precursor Journey” that would start after a character finished their Personal Story. I’d even make it where each character can only search for one precursor. It would give more incentive to finishing the PS on alts in order to find the other precursors.

A Necromancer when played right will rock a dungeon to its core.

I get asked to bring my “Terrormancer” so they don’t have to put up with the Zerker player’s “holier than thou” attitude. I keep up a constant DPS from my build that ALWAYS gets me the full agro. I just laugh at the pile of bodies at my feet.

In a random PUG, I got asked my build in TA and I pinged my skills and listed my traits to the other necro in our group and his DPS and staying ability sky-rocketed in comparison to what his build was when he stepped into the dungeon.

Matter of fact, we tend to run 2 Terrormancers (wife and I) plus a flex Elementalist for support. The fourth is usually a lowbie along for the ride.

Just learn how to play each profession and let the elitist wait. Start your own group and don’t be afraid to let in a non-zerking profession, you might be surprised.

Your build gets you aggro because you’re probably wearing full rabid gear with lots of toughness.

I just checked my gear and I’m using full Carrion with 6 Superior Runes of the Undead.

Final Rest with Superior Sigil of Blood and Superior Sigil of Chilling.

Traits are:
Spite = 4 – III – VII
Curses = 4 – VI – IX
Death = 2 – V
Blood = 4 – III – VIII

Skills:
6 = Well of Blood
7 = Well of Suffering
8 = Well of Darkness
9 = Well of Power
0 = Flesh Golem

Wife uses the same thing except she uses Well of Corruption instead of Well of Darkness so that we can compliment each other. We also alternate when we use the Flesh Golem’s charge attack to keep our target down longer.

The wife and I share agro when we work together, but I can pull more because I lay down my marks and wells faster because I use Instant Ground Targeting and she uses Normal Ground Targeting.

You just proved his point. I don’t think you realize, but a lot of mobs use tough/vit to pull aggro, and not dps. You are pulling aggro because you are tanky, not because of your damage. I’m not saying your build is bad, but you are using a build that isn’t as fast as a zerk build. That’s why people don’t run condi in PvE. The time it will take you to match my zerk warrior’s 25K hundred blade crit is about 20 seconds on a good day. And I can do that about 3-4 times in 20 seconds. That’s why people zerk.

I’m not too concerned about whether I’m pulling agro or not. I can still handle mobs on myself while healing party members. Our friend that runs the Hybrid Elementalist just cracks up when she stops by to visit and I have a pile of dead at my feet while I chant “Bring out your dead!”

Which just goes to show how broken and backwards this game really is. Yeah! Let’s let our mage class use a two-handed sword that is probably three times as heavy as they are! That is so awesome even though it doesn’t make any sense what so ever!

You do realize that when a Mesmer attacks with a greatsword, they are not even physically holding the weapon. They levitate it and channel attacks through it.

  • Scythe (one-handed): Necromancer, Thief, Mesmer. Yes, it’s one-handed, can you imagine how awesome would be a dual-wielding thief?

You are thinking Sickle not Scythe.
Sickle is a one-handed curved blade.
Scythe is a two-handed with a long, hooked blade attached to a long handle.

Necromancer, Mesmer, and MAYBE a Guardian would use a scythe.

A thief would use a kaiser blade (sling blade) before using a sickle.

A sickle isn’t designed to be an effective weapon. Nunchaku were the weaponized evolution of the sickle that was used for threshing rice (small handle with blade attached [sickle] then attached to a longer pole by cord or chain).

Some reasons why China’s TP is isolated to China:

The Chinese version of GW2 is a P2W model.
Cultural reasons regarding the naming of armor/weapons
Cultural reasons regarding the look of armor/weapons
Chinese law on foreign businesses operating in China

And from personal exp, the database structuring of both the NA/EU TP and the Chinese TP are completely different. The Chinese database can be smaller due to their writing system. Same with a Japanese only database. Plus, NA/EU languages don’t translate properly into Chinese and Japanese writing forms.

My Japanese version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Dracula X: Nocturne in the Moonlight) for the Sega Saturn is the full game. When it was translated for English, they needed the PlayStation due to the increased size of the data just because they changed from Kanji to English. This also caused the loss of 50% of the equipment, 4 zones, and one full playable character.

Dye system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ravion Hawk.4736

Ravion Hawk.4736

The UI is simple on/off switches.

Dyes always = 0
Wardrobe Skins = 1 per piece

You have up to 14 pieces of equipment that can be skinned. Those currently equipped pieces = 0. Now let’s do the math shall we:

Fully Equipped

Head = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Shoulder = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Chest = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Hands = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Legs = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Feet = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0

Set One Main = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Set One Offhand = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Set Two Main = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Set Two Offhand = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0

Re-breather = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Underwater Set One = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Underwater Set Two = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0

Back Piece = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0

Skin and Dye Changes

Head = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Shoulder = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 1
Chest = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Hands = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Legs = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 1
Feet = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0

Set One Main = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Set One Offhand = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 1
Set Two Main = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Set Two Offhand = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0

Re-breather = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0
Underwater Set One = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 1
Underwater Set Two = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0

Back Piece = 0 Dye = 0 Skin = 0

0 = Off
1 = On

Since Dye always equals 0 charges, any Dye changes are 0 + 0 = 0
In the change example we have four “Skin = 1” which means there are four 0 + 1.

Those four 0 + 1 = 1
Then you add up the 1s to get how many charges the changes will cost which comes to 4.

The only reason the Dyes are in the switches is because you can change the skins and dyes at the same time and apply the changes together.

Nope…. still playing like normal. Had a grand time coordinating dyes with my husband last night. He’s up to 290-something. I’m up to 284. Going to be fun trying to get the last ones…

And I won’t even go into skins. My husband took one look at what he doesn’t have in his wardrobe and found some fresh motivation. Woot frickin woot! I think I might actually look forward to playing more.

Wife and I did the same thing. It took us about 9 hours to to go through almost 1000 dyes between the two of us. We both now have the full original palette. I’m currently cycling a character slot to get all the starter skins unlocked then it will be time to loot more skins for the wardrobe.

The wife popped three (3) ABYSS DYES last night out of her 350+ dyes while I never even got one out of my 600 dyes.

Playability has definitely gotten better.

I’ve got a couple devs on my friends list and I try not to bug them. I had a chat with one during the Escape from Lion’s Arch LS about how I was dealing massive damage and not getting any exp for the kill.

We even had some laughs about the implied possibility of the ending of LS season one and I pointed out a particular lab out in Magus Falls from GW1 along with one of the LS characters sharing a name with one of the enemies from the owner of that lab which they didn’t think of until I pointed it out. Then we laughed about being stuck on the same spot in that quest in GW1.

I’ve actually wanted to see about getting all my wife and I’s story dungeons done with a dev or two in the group so we don’t get booted and to help my wife with her confidence in dungeons.

I honestly think there will be more Bifrosts as the unidentified dye price tanks.

What was the average of unided dyes, around 25 silver? About 62g 50s to make the Gift of Color @250 dyes. Now it will be 100 dyes at that average will be around 25g or with a projected price tank of about 5s would make it about 5g. The price of the Bifrost is meant to recoup this cost along with bringing a net profit.

Now imagine the profit if the Bifrost stays the same price but the cost of dyes were free? Granted it might not mean much to some, but the ability to save between 5g to 25g is big for some players. I honestly think there will be more Bifrosts on the TP.

I’ll be IDing my dyes to fill in the gaps on my palette first then using the mystic toilet to try and make the the other missing colors come up.

Don’t jump the shark and assume that everyone is doing the same thing.

Imagine how many Bifrosts that could be made from this seeing as how the requirement of 250 dyes is dropping to 100 to make the gift of color. One account with at least two full dye palettes could make in theory at least 4+ Bifrosts.

Dwarves?

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dwarf

The dwarves as a race have sacrificed themselves to fight the minions of Primordus to delay its return. They’ve been transformed physically into living stone and become mentally linked. I hope that a side effect of us killing Primordus will be freeing the dwarves from their bond and their return to the world (as playable characters).

That just screams out ‘living story’

Oh, heck yeah!

The epic year-long Living Story toward that would ultimately lead to the return of the Dwarves. It would be as much an emotional upper of an LS ending as the destruction of Lion’s Arch was an emotional downer of an LS ending.

You do realize that in order to have a year pass with the Living Story would require 14 years of our time.

This last Living Story season which took us a year only spanned 26 days in the game hence why defenses weren’t shored up in time for Scarlett’s attack.

Increase Difficulty for Low lvl Areas by 10x

The scaling system IS working properly.

It ONLY scales your BASE stats. Your gear, weapons, trinkets, and traits are NOT scaled down because this is supposed to be your edge.

If you want the low level areas to be more challenging, use only the maximum gear for the area and maybe tone your traits back.

OR

If that is too much for you to do then do as suggested and go to a level 80 zone. Maybe do Southsun Cove solo and watch yourself get face rolled by the wildlife with your zerker/ascended setup.

Remove WvW from map completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ravion Hawk.4736

Just to point something out: there are many people that only ever want to play WvW because that is the game type they enjoy playing, yet they HAVE to go into PvE to get the maps and mats necessary to get their legendaries and map completion. Is it fair for them to have to do PvE content? Honest question for you OP.

The difference here is that us PvE players are not harassing the WvW players for being in PvE.

PvE players don’t want to be in WvW
WvW players don’t want PvE players in WvW

The only cooperation I got to finish my 100% Explorer was when I said:

“Help me get the last 3 POIs and 2 VP and I’ll leave so you all get another WvW player. Until then I’m sitting here wasting a slot.”

I got a zerg escort to what I had left, I gave them all my siege prints and they told me to GTFO and stay out.

And I have 9 more characters to do this with.

Feedback/Questions: The Megaserver System: Guilds and the Future

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ravion Hawk.4736

TL:DR

As a friend pointed out, with this Megaserver being used in the towns, how are servers going to coordinate WvW Zergs without tipping off the other servers?

Though we are both in agreement that the Mystic Forge should be in every city to reduce the lag of the central hub (Lion’s Arch) and give true PvE players a non-laggy area to do Mystic Forgesmith dailies, the entrance to the Mists and WvW/EotM are in Lion’s Arch which gets laggy plus servers use the central hub city to plan WvW strategies since it is logical to plan at the entrances to these areas.

This Megaserver is making it where servers can’t rally players for surprise attacks in WvW.

I’ve never gotten a precursor and I’m not too worried about getting one much less a legendary. It is after all just some pixels.

But if I do find one, I might just salvage it for Ectos to then salvage into dust.

Or I’ll sell it at an insane price. I don’t know yet.

Instead of complaining about the gem cost and the services or lack thereof, just stop buying the passes and use the original way by either waypointing or use the PvP shortcut then use the portal to one of the cities. It is LOADS cheaper and you can spend your gems on something else that will upset you.

Well, seeing as how they removed repair costs, the “Rez if you’re down, Waypoint if you’re dead” group got even more justification to be a bunch of jerks.

Maybe there will be a balance there like possibly treating effective event areas like dungeons and preventing dead players from waypointing until all players in the event are dead.

The dead person is actually a problem. They count against scaling making it harder for the people who are alive to win a fight. People that don’t rez people in a downed state are also an issue. But dead people need to waypoint so that they are part of the solution and not a burden on the team.

You do realize that events scale up not down. That dead player that you refuse to rez can just WP and go on their merry way while the event is still scaled for them to be there. The dead player at least tried to help the event and deserves the respect of the group to rez them. 10 players can rez a dead player extremely fast.

The ones you all should be upset at are the players that run through the area and scale up the event while not even lifting a finger to help with the event. I had it happen to me last night while doing an event. Had a group run right through the event then all a sudden I had double almost triple the enemies to deal with by myself.

I will ALWAYS stop to rez a dead player as the game intended. At least I don’t look like a jerk screaming for them to Way Point out and potentially shooting myself in the foot because they DO NOT have to come back once they way point out.

It is time to take a second look at racials.

Elite Racial skills just need to be useful IMHO. Both of my Norns use their class elites, which aren’t any better, because the forms are pretty much useless. Besides, I honestly don’t recall a single Norn being able to change into multiple animal forms in the lore.

The elites that I’ve found the most useful for PvE are:

Either Golem for the Asurans
The Hounds of Balthazar for Humans
Legion Support for Charr
Flesh Golem for Necromancers
Thief Guild for Thieves
Supply Crate for Engineers

Thankfully my Sylvari is a Necromancer, but my Norns are a Guardian and a Mesmer and are pretty much hosed in the elite skill department for both race AND class.

As to the non-elite racial skills, I tend to not even use them.

Also what about all armor and weapons I have accumulated during the years that have been equipped or salvaged, would we be getting all the skins back ?

I would like to know this too seeing as how I once had the Profane Armor skin and no longer have it.

The purchase is in my Gem Store log though.

A New Way to Explore the Looks of Guild Wars 2: ………., or Mounts!

NO!

It has been said before that there will be no mounts.

We need the Devs to put “mount” and “mounts” on the list of words that get the kitten filter.

Guild membership becomes account wide instead of character based.

But…..that’s been a thing since launch. Unless I am misunderstanding you.

Lemme rephrase myself:

Only one Guild membership per account just like Guild Wars 1. No multiple guilds that you can represent whenever.
