I do appreciate his higher rate of posting, but I’m looking for quality over quantity. He has yet to address any concern unrelated to the Staff or the new Dodges (which are the selling points of the spec so it’s kind of a given those will be improved). I don’t expect a response on everything salient, but a response on anything salient would be good.

I’m confused, didn’t he come out not too long ago detailing the fixes for the new dodges? Dash would be shorter, bound would be quicker and the jump on IL would be removed since they could not bypass its flaws….? I’m pretty sure I saw those.

All these names with meanings make me feel underachieving. I’ve been one to come up and invent my own names, but they do have some form of meaning…usually. My rev’s (female human) name will be Onis Ebafloe. The first name was just me mashing syllables together but the last name is a name-based version of the term ebb and floe because as a revenant, she just goes with whatever legend gives themselves to her, be them once evil or altruistic.

I was being passively aggressive, for lack of a better term. That three step procedure can be literally attributed to almost every encounter. the differences come with the class you’re fighting. As for your hypothetical blob, we are talking about a 1v12 against some of the hardest match-ups against our class save a few non-mentioned. I would fall on my legs and not engage because the chances of winning are extremely unlikely in my odds.

1. Hit them
2. Try not to get hit
3. Interrupt heals?

Got nothing negative to say here. I feel like this is a good implementation, mainly because of the main underlying point, casting revealed essentially can lock us out of an entire trait line. This obviously hurts our survivability, and let’s face it, other classes are just getting stronger.

A condi necro can be a tough match up for a lot of classes, not just thief. But it is especially hard for thieves since they can give you more conditions than you can shed off. The fact of the matter is that you’re going to get condition spammed, it’s just a matter of which ones you can afford to ignore for a bit. Their death shroud will be difficult because if their is one thing you don’t want a tanky condi build to do, it is stall you, and necromancers are extremely good at doing just that. If you are DP headshot should be primarily used when they enter deathshroud and their heal, you do not want them to get off too many shroud skills as that will only increase pressure on you and also build up their life force in the case of skill #4. Using the stolen skill when they are low on health is a great way to solidify a win in most cases assuming they do not dodge it or interrupt you while doing it, doom is a great interrupt and instant cast they have access to in DS.

However, ultimately, unless you’re intentionally doing 1v1’s, I would suggest avoiding a fight with a necromancer of the condition variety unless necessary or unless you strongly feel as thought you can get them down quick. But if the necromancer is cunning, they will not let you get them down quick. It’s actually a unique and fun playstyle on their part and in my uneducated opinion, “better” than those kitten condi engis since they just spam grenades and bombs at their feet while necromancers have to use certain marks/ skills and manage their deathshroud to use it as both a offensive and defensive tool, which can allow them to play both offense and defense at the same time.

Which I find funny since at the very dawn of this game, the thief class was designed to be the 1 v 1 class. Now the game has evolved to where I personally think that isn’t the case. While a player certainly can duel other classes successfully, you have to look at more than what the thief can do to them, but what they can do to the thief. In the case of the warrior, their only trump card are heavy hits, usually. They are very winnable against but the problem is the time investment to fighting one usually turns out to not be even worth it.

I personally think a D/D ele isn’t worth it. As someone else said, it’s an uphill battle. Unwinnable? No, but if they are of equal or greater experience then it’s a fight you will have a very difficult time winning. They can cleanse and burst and you have to eat through a lot of cooldowns to get them to do what they want.

Rangers used to be our prey but they have evolved to be an actual threat nowadays, and one cannot throw caution to the wind now. LB hurts a lot and being knocked back can be detrimental since you’re only then making their LB stronger. Even still I’d say a ranger is definitely a class a thief should try to target. If things go right, that should be a win.

Necromancers, mainly of the condition variety are a tough match up now. They can take a hit, they can take a few hits all while playing defensively they can still get conditions on you, and they have death shroud to stall you and deal even more damage. This in my opinion is a class that you can try to engage and the fights don’t typically last too long despite them being able to eat your burst. The best thing to do is fear them near death for final blows.

Guardians, enough said, very dangerous. Waiting for them to use skills is optimal, if you survive them.

Mesmers is like a 50/50 for me. either I have a very good chance at winning or I lose 100% of my hp in 1/16th of a second. I just use extreme caution when dealing with them. Fighting a mesmer is unique in that it should usually be a quick fight, in both directions.

Engineers I personally don’t deal with. People know how supposedly, I don’t. Too many conditions than I can clear, way too much pressure and they don’t even need to directly target me.

Thief, best get the firs hit in. I find you chances of winning on most sky rocket if you get the first hit in because now they are going on the defense and you can counter act if you play your offense better.

In the end though, all of these classes have the tools that can seriously counter act your abilities so I don’t think we are the 1v1 specialist we used to be.

The sheer amount of bounding that could be pulled off is awesome. I liked how you demonstrated how the elite can be used as an assurance finisher when someone was running and you shadowstepped to them during the animation. I’m not saying it was a problem by any means, I just found it a wee bit hard to tell right of the bat what was a dodge bound and what was the actual skill :P

I actually made a thread like this years ago, no lie. Inspiration came from the fact that my sylvari has the huge elf ears begging to have a piercing on them, but ear rings in general look cool on some models. I wish it weren’t tied to armor/outfits

Edit: I also would like variation, not just long it big earrings but maybe some actual rings and some top ear options

Hey to be “that guy” but just because it’s massless doesn’t mean it moves at the speed of light since a very physically limited being still has to swing it, it doesn’t move on its own.

Without or without a shadowshot lead( although with gives more damage and puts on a blind) you can then open with a pistol 5 and stand in it for a bit dealing some AA chip damage and before it goes away follow up with a heart seeker and finish the combo on their now raging behinds with a delicious and all too well known backstab. That’s one way, I forgot to mention that a couple AA’s after the shadow shot is effective too before pistol 5

Have you ever considered that maybe if backstab was accessible outside of stealth, then maybe thieves would stealth less? Or maybe if warrior worked like thief, maybe the warrior in your example only has killshot when he is stealthed?

Hi all! I was wondering what the general pattern is for the return of items that seem “randomly” placed on the BLTC. I missed the Black Feather Wings and they look so cool! As well as some other items, is there anyway to know when they’d make a return of at all?

I can definitely see Thief getting rifle. Only other weapon I see us getting is OH sword, and I doubt they would give Thief that when ele’s are already getting sword. Seems the trend is every profession is getting something different from the others.

I think the rifle spec is either going to be a “Sniper” or a “Saboteur”. Hard to imagine what they’ll do since Warriors basically already have Kill Shot. Honestly, it’s all up in the air.

Not really. From this position you can only attack and this attack will be slow and predictable. You can’t defend yourself. As a bonus, if you hold it so low, you may trip and fall.

When running around/in motion, you hold it behind yourself like that.

You hold it behind yourself, but not like that. You hold it up. It’s a greatsword, not a plow.

Concerning gods. Lore-wise, Lyssa would probably be the closest (human) god to match a thief’s “magic”. However (and I’m no Lore expert), this is just a very magic rich world, and you don’t need to honor a god to have magic.

Grenth’s more Necromancer, what with the ice/darkness bit. Lyssa has twin aspects, and is known to be kinda sneaky. As for the type of magic? Denial Magic; linked to both Mesmer and Thief, IIRC.
