This has been a sorely neglected system since release and while there has been a lot of discussion on this in the WvW forums, this system also affects PvE a lot as well, especially with the large raid encounters such as Wurm.

I’m here simply to make a suggestion that could work really well in GW2. It’s taken from an MMO called Maplestory. Love it or hate it, it had a really good party/raid system.

Simply put, a commander creates a Squad and invites people to the Squad. The Squad is then divided by parties, which the commander can organise through drag and drop (party composition suddenly becomes a lot easier). The UI in Maplestory was a window divided up into blocks/squares, each party being its own block. This can work pretty well in GW2 as well.

This is much better than the current system whereby the commander has no way of getting his squad to even function, considering players have to join the squad rather than be invited to it. It’ll also allow guilds to have guild events and activities much more easily and efficiently.

If it’s true that HoD can queue 4 maps during NA prime on a weeknight, then they’ll be shooting up the ranks for a while. A bit of coverage over other time zones and they’ll be a serious t3 contender while they get better at defending/attacking and holding PPT before hitting t2.

You say you’re in a WvW guild. Go ask them. Different guilds have different methods for commanding.

1+2. Get your own siege – they’re not expensive. You should have hundreds, if not thousands of badges by now. convert to siege, convert to superior siege. Only the commander throws siege because you have to manage your zerg’s supply. If you can’t manage your supply, just tag down and let someone else command and observe until you can.
3. Don’t apologise. You have to be a leader. Leaders don’t apologise. They acknowledge mistakes and fix them.
4. Guild buff related. If you’re not a guild officer, well, talk to your guild.
5. It’s supposed to be hard. You can’t seriously be expecting to pvdoor keeps down can you? No tips here. Your only teacher is experience.
6. Get in voice comms with them. Don’t be a kitten and command without server voice comms
7. Experience and time will fix this.

Staff ele is my main… I don’t generally have an issue with survivability. I tend to do fine on scepter/x as well. Little bit of an issue on d/d but not as much as on my thief. I also tend to get squished on my war guard, but do perfectly fine as a melee necro or mes.

My guild mate has the exact opposite issue. She plays an awesome war or thief, but can’t survive as a light armor character, even playing ranged.

I simply chalk it up to we all have different styles. shrug

For D/D, spec at least 10 into earth and 20 into arcana. With enough boon duration, you can have near 100% protection buff uptime. Keep in mind that your frost aura also has a 10% damage reduction effect that stacks with protection. You also have an extra evade on air 5

He’s a pretty good commander without it, but it certainly gave him the edge in terms of timing.

Like spamming open field ACs all over the place in anticipation of our zerg? Yeah…

T1 has dealt with tag watchers and spies for months and months. We just push on and deal with it. Take lots of screenshots and send them to ANet support to try get the more obvious ones banned (the ones walking golems off cliffs, or throwing ballista build sites down on the commander every 2 seconds).

That’s not unique or special at all.

A better example is knowing when the enemy is stacking and going to be pushing out, so that he can call out all CC’s and bomb portals.

He also keeps track of commander tags on the map so that he won’t get any surprises and knows where all the blobs are at.

But as I said, he’s a good enough commander even without these. Pretty good at leading the pugs as well.

I remember when we sent a single person with a tag to a tower, and the entire zerg was there waiting for her. Yep. Keep on keeping track of our zergs

2. Take Arcane Brilliance as your heal skill
3. Put down a water field at your feet and then hit your heal skill

SMC in T1 is basically a PPT placeholder and karma train structure. It’s ridiculously easy to take so no one even bothers, besides trying to farm a few bags on the way out or to hold it for the next tick.

If one server is defending SMC like hell, go take their towers or pressure their keep. No reason to keep going for SMC if you can’t take it with your numbers. If the third server’s commander even knows a little map politics, s/he’ll know it’s time to hit SMC or hit towers that you’re not hitting.

Anyway, the fights on the borderlands are much better.

Why all the QQ constantly?

Besides the massive skill lag at the moment and the stupidly prevalent “PVDoor” zerg meta, WvW is fine.

Funnily enough, both of the two major problems with WvW are linked

WvW was a great game. It was immense fun to play and had huge potential.

Now it’s not even a shadow. Every move Anet has made has been in the opposite direction from the constant pleas of the player base.
Arrowcarts, Trebuchets, Warriors, Commander abilities, WXP, titles, Ascended gear Legendaries. All these are subjects of general consensus among players and determined resistance from Anet.

They’ve ruined their own game. Can you blame us for being bitter about it?

ACs, Trebs are fine. Not really sure what you mean. ACs doing more damage is great for defenders. Open field ACs are annoying but will hardly turn the tide of a fight. Trebs are also a great defensive tool.

Warriors aren’t even the most widely used class in zergs – guardians are. For roaming, it’s a toss up between Mesmer and Thief. The “warrior meta” came from PvE and sPvP, not WvW. A WvW warrior has only a few useful skills – Warbanner, hammer CC skills, warhorn condition cleanse and the occasional killshot. I guess a shout-heal warrior is kinda useful? But very few people run that build because you require such a huge tradeoff in your damage.

Commander abilities aren’t really needed beyond what’s already available. We all use teamspeak/mumble/vent already anyway. Anything more is just simple QOL.

Ascended has been out for months now and I haven’t noticed any difference in fights, so no impact there. Not even going to comment on legendaries. Thinking they are an issue is just asinine, as are WXP and titles.

[EotM] Consider a new server matching scheme

Depends whether the more populated servers care about EoTM. I know that Blackgate guilds rarely enter EoTM except to bum around and do some training (so very rarely), so as the T1 server of whatever colour we are at that week, that colour suffers due to it missing a huge chunk of potential population. Hell even our pugs rarely go to EoTM since our borderlands usually have more action going on.

Can’t comment on other servers though. I don’t go to EoTM often enough to know who plays there often

Heh. These new players complaining how hard it is to get gold these days. They should’ve played when the game first came out, where there were no gold at end of every dungeon and champs being committed because they didn’t drop crap.

Those days… Wondering how I was ever going to get that legendary worth 3 gold when I had 10 silver to my name haha

Seriously, after you finish gearing out your characters and alts with exotics (and maybe ascended trinkets if you got the laurels or you run fractals often or have a bunch of guild commendations saved up), there’s not much to spend gold on.

I got 2 commander tags, all my 80s geared up, 2 of whom are halfway done with ascended and exotic/ascended gear waiting on the remaining of my characters that aren’t 80 yet.

I have 200 gold at the moment, but I don’t feel poor by any means. There’s just nothing to spend my gold on except for gathering tools on my alts and the repair fees after a stint in WvW

If you’re a casual player, then expect casual gear status. Don’t expect to get good items easily. Those items are expensive for a reason, and they’re not for casuals.

The most active places are in WvW/EoTM, Queensdale, Frostgorge and Gendarran Fields right now. Anywhere else would be rather quiet unless you’re on a highly populated server.

I suggest looking at the wvw leaderboards and picking one in the middle of the pack. The first 7 servers are fairly packed during NA prime so it’s best to look at servers under that.

Cleric/Soldier armour and trinkets with soldier runes and 2-3 shouts on your utility bar (Stand Your Ground is mandatory). Change Soldier/Clerics to Knights/Celestial when you feel more comfortable with your character.

Trait builds vary from guild to guild so ask your guild for that one

The current dungeon system is the result of players skipping content and purposely making it easier for themselves. Early dungeon runners had all sorts of builds as they figured out the paths. Mostly support builds.

Roles aren’t defined by your class. A bunker ele is the second strongest bunker class after guardian, certainly more so than a warrior (an elixir engi is a stronger bunker than a warrior too come to think of it), yet a warrior can be one of the strongest healers as well with their shouts. A guardian has some of the highest dps while maintaining strong support should s/he choose to do so.

All classes can perform all roles. Stop trying to bring back that antiquated system to a new and refreshing game

If they’re transferring out, it’s because they haven’t found a home in your server. There’s very little reason to transfer to another server for PVE reasons so your WvW community either didn’t fit them or wasn’t there in the first place

Oceanic really kicks off at around 3am server time, since 12-1am server time is when peeps are just getting home from work. SEA goes onto around 9-10am server time

It all depends on what part of oceanic you are. NZ prime starts about 11pm, whereas WA isnt till 3 or 4 am

That’s assuming prime starts at 6pm local. That’s usually not the case. At least in BG, we tend to start at around 8pm local. I.E. in AEDT, we’d start forming up at around 2am server time and get going at 3am.

Eh, I’ve fought against such rangers. It’s not that they’re easy to beat, it’s that they’re easy to pressure. Whilst my Scepter/Dagger ele can’t do much against these rangers, my Dagger/Dagger can burst them down pretty quickly so even with perma regen, they have to back away, which lets me heal up faster.

Good rangers exist, they’re just few and far inbetween, and they still are easy loot bags for good players on other roaming classes like engi, mesmer and thieves.

Proposal to limit the impact of PPT

So this is one of those ideas that you get while in the shower, so it’ll need fleshing out for sure, but what I was thinking of was a way to make PPT matter less in a matchup by creating more goals to reach for the end of the week.

For example:
- Most amount of player kills
- Most amount of yak kills
- Most amount of sentry caps
- Most camp flips
- Most time held onto a keep
- Most time held onto a tower

PPT won’t be removed, but points removed for kills from bloodlust and sentry caps, and an aggregate score from above categories will determine the winner of the matchup.

This way, roamers and havoc squads can have as much of an impact as zergs in gaining score for the server.

What do you think guys? Criticisms?

Way too many people guest here for inconsequential PvE stuff like LA champ train. Wurm and Teq I can understand – BG has a pretty solid foundation for open world boss raids, but for your regular events like LA? Really?

Nothing you can do. Anets gross ignorance of their actual player numbers means world events will have to be guested. Low pop servers are suffering and with season2 of wvw coming, they’re going to be starving of even more people.

Maybe if they stop guesting they’ll find that their servers actually have a lot of people.

I was in an overflow once for Wurm and saw 20-30 people from Kaineng there, using BG’s teamspeak. I was just like… lulwut? If these people put a bit of effort into making a solid community on their own server like what BG did early on, they wouldn’t have this problem.

How best to help as a roamer solo?

Zerging doesn’t really involve hitting doors… But anyway, on your borderland, hang around the south of the map and deny yaks and take camps if possible. Deny enemy reinforcements if there’s a fight. Same thing on an enemy borderland, deny dolyaks and camps. In EBG, there’s not much to do as a roamer besides protecting camps from other roamers and trying to take camps.

Before we wanted even matches so ANet decided to match the servers strictly in triplets, and strangely enough this matchup is 7-9. Now that being said this is because SoR’s rating needs time to adjust, it will drop out of T3 next week or the week after. Now this is the part that creates controversy: should ANet do things like make a judgment call and put SoR in a T4 match this week in anticipation of them losing rating? Seems reasonable but I’m not certain.

A lot of people like that hater from Mag don’t like DB because it has SEA guilds. We also have only 2 EU guilds on weekends and 1 on weekdays. Don’t be kitten just because you don’t outcoverage us in all time zones.

We don’t want DB in T2 for reasons that have nothing to do with your SEA coverage. We all know that DB is nowhere near capable of competing in T2. They’ll be absolutely destroyed. Likewise, if FA gets shoved down to silver for the league because of DB consuming score from SOR, every silver league server is going to wish DB was back, because FA will absolutely dominate, and it won’t be fun for anyone involved.

If you don’t want to fight DB in gold, or worse, be stuck in silver, then you and FA should actually show up this match. Seems SoS came out to play, or You and FA decided to stay home.

Few guilds transferred to SoS recently giving them far superior coverage to Mag or FA, which means that SoS will naturally gain more PPT than either Mag or FA. It’s not about Mag or FA not showing up at all.

Treb damage to rams through gates?

Apologies but your wrong. Two superior ac’s in good positions can take out any rams at any door.

With your logic, then, why wouldn’t the 2 superior ACs be considered “broken” and unfair?

The difference is, with the treb, 1 person can make a difference in defending a tower if they plan ahead, spend 100 supply (often times running back and forth to a camp for 10 minutes) and watch the map. My guess is that you’re on a high population server and get mad when people stop your karma train.

There ARE ways of taking out trebs… you just have to be smart and plan ahead. Don’t you think that’s more fun than just “throw down rams… take tower… rinse… repeat….”?

I’m assuming it’s just T1 QQing about the tactic. We use it all the time in T2 on down, because it means that we don’t have to worry about not making it to defense on time when we’re on other maps, our one person will be able to hold them off long enough to get there. Remember, T2 and below can at most queue 2 maps, we can’t pull off anything more than that.

Don’t assume too hard. We sometimes have more than 1 door treb defending a gate simply because of how fast they melt. A door treb is quite literally the only viable defensive siege right now because superior ACs don’t do enough damage to siege and ballistas don’t have line of sight from behind a gate. A catapult can slow down rammers due to its greater knockback, but not nearly as viable as a treb if you’re a lone defender.

I actually like this idea very much. Shutting down the borderlands from between 12-6am server time on NA servers won’t really have a huge impact as many people think, and will dissuade the idea of NA commanders pulling overtime to cover that period since the oceanic player base is tiny compared to the others, and that timeslot so happens to be oceanic. I know that in BG at least, we still wouldn’t be able to queue EBG during those hours unless the stars align, and TC, JQ and SoS wouldn’t have very big queues either

Plus, with EoTM, it’s not like you can’t have some semblance of wvw experience.

If you shut down kitten T2 Maps, be it EB or any other BL , u are effectively destroying a huge community in NA who come home from a hard day at work to unwind and fight while the other side of the planet sleeps. Effectively cutting a good portion of Anets revenue stream. The OP should consider ramifications to the thousands of WvW players in t1 and t2 during that timeszone. I have seen in his sig that his from an EU server so no complains here if it is just restricted for EU servers.

NA prime ends at 11-12pm server time. Oceanic starts at 1-2am server time. SEA starts at 6-7am server time. You are really affecting very few people with this hypothetical change. 20-21 of the 24 NA servers won’t be affected

I play late Oceanic to early SEA (3-7am server time) and it’s quiet as hell compared to NA populations and filled with pvdoor already so I can’t imagine how quiet it gets in lower tiers…

Also, TC is the only server currently experiencing 4 map queues outside of reset night…

People take to PvD and give up defending at all when one server can field a massive blob that no one wants to even try to defend against for hours on end, if they even have upgraded structures and supplies to bunker with.

A full queue doesn’t mean there’s quality activity on the map either. Usually it’s either huge guild blobs causing the server to stop working, or ton’s of afks and tower huggers doing nothing.

If you take a hard look at it, yes there are some potentially more exciting aspects of play on higher tiers with more numbers and guilds, but some of the issues with coverage and number disparities at any given moment are also amplified rather than evened out.

This is just a gross misunderstanding on how the highest ranked servers work. PVD isn’t cause one side is fielding a massive zerg, it’s because there’s not that many to fight against, allowing groups to hop maps to ninja anything that isn’t upgraded.

That’s not necessarily true, either. On more than one occasion, I’ve seen the enemy zerg actively do anything in its power to avoid fighting. A lot of people are there just to hit doors, hit champs, collect a exotic bag, and move on to the next tower. They’ve zero interest in engaging against the enemy unless it’s by a overwhelming margin.

Also known as “havok squads” and “ninjas”. It’s a fair play. The PvF surrounding it is all bluster.

I never called it havocing, and ninja-ing isn’t really defined by how many players you have with you.

I disagree. If you pop orange swords taking a point, I don’t consider that a ninja. But I’m not going to get into some semantics argument, either. So there’s that.

I agree, but doesn’t mean that a large zerg will definitely pop those orange swords. Most guilds disallow any kind of combat at a gate when trying to take something because those big orange swords will kind of ruin the whole point of trying to ninja a structure.

Don’t know what to tell you. We’ve had extremely lopsided matches before, either completely outnumbered or completely outnumbered our opponent, and it was boring. Balanced matches are more fun but it just means the same names every day. Also allows good rivalries to develop.

I tried roaming on my ele using sceptre/dagger and got my kitten handed to me 50% of the time. D/D has been much kinder to me

Does take a lot of knowledge of the class and skill rotations to be able to play well.

I’ve challenged myself at times and roamed as a staff ele. Killed a few thieves and engis which was pretty funny, but staff eles just lack everything in a 1vx environment. All the skills are designed for group play.

JQ can do blackouts to allow folks in but u need to talk to the ministers of communication. I think folks are really gearing up of an all out war in season 2. It will be a make or break situation for Anet if there is blunder.

A label for a person who does a specific job for his or her server. That’s one of the biggest differences between T1 and other tiers, the organisation.

Warrior killshot right now is very situational and near useless. While squished hate it due to its ability to kill in one shot, it’s not used often due to its long channel time and unreliable ability to actually deal damage (dodge, aegis, blind).

My suggestion would be to nerf the base damage by around 30-50% and add some kind of crowd control effect to it, making it a viable skill even if your adrenaline isn’t maxed. Something like daze, knockdown or knockback combined with reduced damage will help it as a skill in my opinion, making rifle warriors a more viable choice in pvp

How to fight thieves: chain CC. Considering the lack of stub breakers thieves have, it doesn’t take a scientist to figure it out

Channeled skills work just as well if not better. Ever ran a rifle warrior or snipe ranger in a group comp when a pesky troll thief decides to stall your group? A Killshot will take care of him no problem.

T1 is completely different to when SoS was up here, not that SoS isn’t too far off from returning to T1.

Pugs are much better organised, players in general are much more aware of what’s expected of them. It’s hard to quantify the difference

I play late Oceanic to early SEA (3-7am server time) and it’s quiet as hell compared to NA populations and filled with pvdoor already so I can’t imagine how quiet it gets in lower tiers…

Also, TC is the only server currently experiencing 4 map queues outside of reset night…

People in towers aren’t “tower hugging”. It’s called scouting. It helps you keep the tower in case it’s attacked.

Lag is either caused by the server or your computer. Most of the time, it’s the server crapping out.
