It can work, especially so on lower servers or smaller groups where there is less random AOE around. But you need to focus on your positioning quite a bit. Very powerful when used properly, but very squishy when you’re lazy about where you are in comparison to the enemy and your allies.
You can push well enough with plague, especially since it’s relevant to zerg clashes as an ability and a commander. Lich can technically work if it weren’t for that whole being a giant green target. But plague works fine and even makes you harder to see.
The way I see it is that you can push with plague just fine and survive quite well with DS and normal defenses. If you’re afraid plague can’t protect you, perhaps it’s a fight you won’t win regardless of which class you are.
Plus remember that now enemies can’t see who is commanding. Necro might not be ideal in every way but there are far worse choices.
i find that most MM necros are similar to most rangers. positively terribad. i go out of my way to engage them. it’s unfortunate.
This is true.
But the other day I fought a very good MM and it was a difficult fight. So in that sense it’s like a hambow in that a good player wielding the spec is a tough fight.
Its so sad that the devs have enough time to post here but not in the rly important topic like what pvp needs and so on..
The devs can’t post anywhere without reactions like this. They are instantly criticized everywhere. Maybe they would post more if people lightened up a bit and rejoiced the positives this game offers instead of focusing on the negatives.
I will not get sick of condi QQ threads where someone got hit by more than one condi class at once. I wonder if they are so upset about 2 staff eles or thieves or 2 hammer warriors? What did you expect would happen?
Since I started tpvping I’ve won a few 2v1s on my necro which has been intense. I won a 4v5 on skyhammer (and it wasn’t close).
I was in a losing streak a few weeks ago and getting focused by warriors for a day, and got matched up against a 4 warrior team and won. That was fun. Also played a 4 engineer team on skyhammer and beat them too.
Probably the best moment was actually a loss, but the 2 teams were pretty even with the other team making a comeback. The match was ending and both teams were at 489-488, and mid was decapped. A few seconds ticked by and each team had a player down. They got the spike about half a second sooner and won 504-499. Very intense game.
At this point why not give everyone who completed the meta 600 tickets and give more tickets to winners later? Been a pretty long time since season was over for this to still not be fixed. I’m sure it isn’t helping WvW at all.
OL IMO is the hardest keep to take. Although anz and mendons are too far away from the keep.
Didn’t even know that was possible.
Welcome to NA Tier 1 where each map is queued and during NA prime time map blobs are everywhe-… oh wait :o
Post season, low turnout from people taking a break after the amount of overtime put in last week.
Wasn’t any different during seasons. We had unqueued maps the very first week a few hours after the first reset. Given that any of the tier 1 servers still absolutely rolls over tier 2, despite the decline in population, I can’t imagine how barren and boring it is in the lowest tiers.
Pic from about 9:40pm server time. This doesn’t include our guild groups, our BL defense group, or our various havoc squads.
Just… stop. If lower tier servers consistently had that kind of turn out, they’d be in tier 3-4, not 6-8
Lower tier servers lack coverage, but they aren’t dead during prime time. They have enough people to have plenty of action during prime times on at least one map. Do they compare to higher tier numbers? No. But there is a misconception from higher tiers that lower tiers are dead and that is only true of some maps and off hours, but not WvW as a whole when most people play.
I was initially drawn to necro because of all the different forms they can take in game.
But now I stick with necro because I’m generally always tough to kill, I have massive control over conditions, and if I spec properly I can tpvp or WvW any way I like all on the same toon. And these are true of most every build I use.
I solo roam on my necro because I know people will be drawn to my lack of escapes and come for a fight. But I also kill yaks and take camps and communicate where enemy zergs are going.
Sometimes I get annoyed fighting certain builds but generally I have a good time, and I always consider it a win if they need to bring a group to kill me.
I may go to thief roaming anyway, though, as I can essentially do the same thing with less risk.
Start small, man. Basic template it still better than no template.
Why not discuss the best possible system? Scheduling and phasing feature releases is our deal :P Plus, there’s no way we can avoid remaking the entire feature later unless we are good about scoping all possibilities.
I’m sure that I’m not alone when I say I appreciate your attention to detail and your drive for perfection, but this is a good instance where a small step can go a long way.
If you never play the games you won’t get any better.
But afking through matches is essentially botting so you should be reported.
Conditions don’t really do much against a zerg. To power wells 6/2/0/0/6 with whatever power gear tickles your fancy the most.
It depends on what you’re doing. For pvp you can’t use the axe’s range as well so it falls short, but in WvW if you use the range and positioning it can be a good weapon, where using a dagger means you’re following your target anywhere but doing more damage.
You are all recognizing the problem with PvP templates versus PvE templates:
PvP builds can be constructed regardless of what items you own. The templates can even save weapon type and give you a free level 1 item if you don’t have a weapon in your inventory already because PvP has normalized attributes.
PvE/WvW builds must include actual items. This mean sharing non-PvP builds becomes very complicated. Either you simply can’t do it, or templates save out exact items for reapplication AND save out item type/level/rarity/prefix/suffix/etc for sharing.
Another aspect you guys are hitting on is the need for template ‘chunks’. This means templates are not an all-or-nothing application, but can be pieced together from various parts. For instance, you could have an ‘appearance’ template that consists only of wardrobe skins, dyes, and a finisher that you can apply and save separately from a ‘functional’ template that may contain skills, traits, and amulet.
This is quite an intricate detail, but you may even want to leave individual skill/trait slot empty in a template you’re sharing like a wildcard.
Start small, man. Basic template it still better than no template.
Yes. Want.
Do what it takes to make it happen soon, even if things like skins need to be left out. Build info you can find the in the pvp build pane is all you need to save, the gear can be changed through other means.
I’ve interrupted them plenty with necromancer DS #3. Helps when you notice that they drop black powder for no obvious reason to get your CC ready.
Do you actually use it over other Curse GM traits? I know that Lingering Curses can just be too good for condition builds, and power builds might not go all the way as they need their traits elsewhere? Do we have someone here with a build and video maybe?
I use it over other GM traits in pvp, hands down.
Is king of the hill different from conquest mode? And capture the flag is cool but that’s essentially spirit watch, where some classes are way better off than others.
Arena is really the next best option I think. After that the options need to be more creative as far as game modes go.
And what happens with a blowout match? You sit there for an hour, not wanting to leave because of dishonored?
Most MMs mostly just trait for the minions, and the actual MM themselves can run a few different amulets. I think conditions are viable with MM, but you will likely lack any strong condition traits like terror.
But I don’t see why it wouldn’t work if played right with a solid mod of MM direct damage and condi damage from you. Could be some issues getting the minions to attack, but I don’t know as much about that as some others might.
Path of Corruption is really strong. It makes a huge difference in what a condimancer can do, most specifically in s/tpvp.
Oh and with the huge stacks of might that float around, it becomes even stronger. Nothing like ripping away 20 stacks of might and landing a strong skill on top of it.
Seems pretty random. I can usually tell which one by seeing which one used to be there, but isn’t anymore.
I think guardians are pretty ok but I do agree that there are generally too many boons, especially might and vigor in my opinion.
Stereotypes aren’t mostly true in SoloQ, I find. You can win 4v5s, you can beat all warrior teams, you can beat all engis on skyhammer.
Player matters more than class for the most part.
Your frustration is 100% because you are hotjoining and expecting equality & competitiveness. Try solo queue.
Well that sucks for those of us who want to play for a bit but can’t necessarily lock into arena games for a set time period.
Should we not care that a large portion of the pvp experience is &*$#’ed atm? As in like, really bad and not fun as the OP has expressed.
Do you think it would be so hard to fix? Or at least make better?
Easiest way around it is join a match that is full, wait for it to end, and join a team right away next match. People will join up if they think they’ll have to leave if they are one of those waiting to join on the winning side.
Sounds like two parties on this idea:
- Pre-match veto
* Pro: Only play on maps you like
* Con: Longer queues (How much longer we don’t know)
- In-match vote on RNG selection
* Pro: Every map gets love, but you play on ones you like more often
* Con: You will sometimes play on maps you don’t likePersonally I’m partial to the RNG + vote because of queue times. I can just queue up and not worry about maps until the match is ready. I wouldn’t need to ever Veto a map because I enjoy them all, but my preference may change at any moment.
In a veto system, we would have to balance how many maps you can veto versus the queue times.
In a vote system, do you think people would vote for the already most-picked map to not ‘throw away’ their vote?
I think people will only “throw away” a vote if they don’t really care about the maps to vote from. But you can be sure that it someone loves one map or hates another that they will vote to get the map they like more.
For example I would absolutely vote for Foefire or Niflhel over spirit watch, but not really care about voting between them because I like those maps.
Would be a nice change, for sure. Of just improve the projectile speed so this isn’t as big of an issue, which seems like an easier fix.
I finished before mega servers and got the correct chest.
I was hotjoining to try to learn a new alt and I found this to be true too. It seems a lot of people wait to see which team is winning and then join that one. Kind of sad, and it really doesn’t make much sense since you get reduced rewards that way, but it happens.
What exactly are you looking to do? Hotjoin? Solo queue? Team?
Do you have a preference to power or condi? You’ll get more specific answers depending on what your biggest interests are. There are a wide variety of builds but some excel more in certain arenas than others.
aye thanks for the feedback!
surely there are many other fellow necromancer players out there who would welcome this addition, yes?
I wouldn’t put it at the top of necro issues that need addressing, but it would be a nice change.
It usually helps to use the active to get him going, and I’m also fairly certain that if you’re hitting more than one target it sort of confuses it. Plus, targets who kite throw it off too.
I consider mine a nice knockdown and some life force when it dies, nothing more.
People questioning why you want to be in a bronze league server need to realize that at peak times these servers have healthy populations, but aren’t crazy zergy, and they generally don’t have many servers with crazy off hour coverage wars.
It’s not 3 guys on a borderland map chasing each other around.
Skyhammer is only an example of a map that some people have vocalized that they like less than others. There will always be maps that people like more and less than others. What I’m trying to get from you guys is to think of how a map voting system could work with regards to all player preferences. How could we ensure that players can always get chances to play their favorite maps?
Randomly have 2 or 3 maps as options and vote between them. Works well in FPS games and keeps all the maps alive.
Skyhammer would still come up as outlined by NevirSayDie. It doesn’t eliminate the map, just allows people who like it to play it with other people who like it, which is the best option since some people hate it so badly they just quit or AFK.
Something to remember when you get skyhammer is that the other team got skyhammer too.
Skyhammer can be frustrating but a lot of people seem to put themselves in a bad spot with this map. I don’t know how many times Its happened in the 2 months I’ve done tpvp but people will constantly go to the home point even though there are multiple engis with knock backs and pulls onto glass and mesmers knocking people off hammer, or whatever other class doing whatever else.
I played a game today where someone complained about being feared off the ledge. “Then don’t stand near the edge.” I told them. Then they QQ’d about ledges being everywhere, but realistically you can dodge most pulls and position yourself away from most fears. Anyone I’ve ever feared off the ledge stood stupidly close to it.
Last week I played a game where our 5th left before the game started and never returned. We won by 100 points anyway, because of the above situation basically, where people were too stubborn to adapt to what was happening.
Skyhammer with a bad team sucks. But don’t be bad on it because you don’t feel like trying to be better, and don’t forget that the other team has the same obstacles and the same opportunities.
I experienced a lot if the same issues but some things that help are spectral walk which buys a few seconds, flesh golem active if you have it, or just kiting off the point until you can come back.
No sympathy for a hambow complaining about CC. Tell him the same thing a warrior would tell a necro, bring stability or a stun break.
A lot of people get their expectations up so high about one thing or another and then get so furious that they leave. You see this everywhere. People transfer in WvW, people rage quit in pvp… It’s everywhere. And I don’t just mean in game. Some people think things should be this way or that way and when they don’t get it, they come here to rage.
Picture a spoiled kid who doesn’t get what he wants for Christmas. Basically the same. Parents said they don’t need it, or knew they wouldn’t really like it, and the kid wanted it anyway so they ball or scream or whatever.
I can understand if people leave GW2 and not play other MMOs, but in terms of MMOs I don’t know where they are going to go at all. No game compares to it and no game coming out in the near future will seem to compare so far, either. GW2 has some problems, sure, but it’s an incredible game – best game I’ve ever played and I plan to stick around for some time and to those who think that things don’t get fixed – they do. I’ve been around since launch and the game has really improved in a lot of ways.
Lich problems are L2P problems at the end of the day.
That’s exactly what I’d rather see, dangerous condition applications but with visual counters. This doesn’t mean put a ridiculous channel time or have it move like hammer toss, but I’d rather have done research and known what each of these skills look like and react accordingly then have to eat up spammable conditions that have no real counter. Removing them only resets the intensity stack at best, they’ll just reapply it soon after that and only a handful of builds have any form of cleansing multiple condition bursts.
Thief pistol stealth attack is fairly easy to counter if you watched them enter stealth. First off cnd is highly telegraphed (Except on asurans, sadly) and the bleeds don’t come from 1 bullet it is over five, which is actually visible before they hit. If you see a trail of bullets coming for you, you can usually soak up atleast 1 and dodge (careful timing) which only applies 1 bleed while revealing them wasting the burst. I actually like this skill as an example of balanced condition application, where it has means to counter but packs a big punch if they get it through.
This sounds like you want conditions to be direct damage, or to never be hit by a condition ever.
all another classes can use stability for stomping. And you forgot mesmer’s F4 skill and portal-stomping trick , so you add mesmer to your list of OP cheater professions!!!
P.S. War can use stability+endure pain – another cheater! Now I will ask all people at sPvP match don’t use stability because I can not interrupt them and it’s mean they are unfair peopleBoons can be ripped.. there is nothing you can do vs mist form
I newer saw situation where someone was in stomping with stability and in these 3 sec his stability was ripped and after he was interrupted. Look likes fairy tale
I do this pretty regularly on my corruptionmancer. Corrupt stability to fear = stomp interrupted.
I vote the SAB route. They don’t need to be exactly the same but they need to be close.
A lot of eles and engis don’t even take these skills. And while they avoid all damage/CC/negative effects, they can’t do any damage back to you.
I find it fascinating that people find Lich Form difficult. I have serious issues with Necros, but the Lich Form specifically is so…. negligible. It’s a very high damage nuker, with a ton of downsides to compensate the raw damage.
Very easy to avoid projectile, projectile, lack of utility, lack of healing, lack of mobility, trivially easy target, virtually no AE potential, ungodly slow, really, all it has going for it is it’s raw damage on the AA.And you know… considering that it’s a single projectile, slow to cast, slow to fly, at best it hits someone for 6k-12k or so before the necro is done for. And that’s one target. For such a long CD, I think even Plague deals significantly more tactical damage to the enemy.
I think the much bigger issue is when one big, mighted up lich hit also procs sigil of fire and air and spinal shivers. It can end up being a one hit kill, which on one hand is totally ridiculous, and on the other is totally avoidable. I suppose it isn’t entirely different from a big backstab from an invisible thief though, since the lich is the most obvious thing in the game and the thief may not be seen until the hit lands.
I don’t know if this is still random for leagues as I don’t think it is, but the green server is the top server, and that’s important because they have geographical disadvantages compared to red and blue in EBG as an attempt to make things more fair.
So you may be QQing about winning.
