Not my opinion or belief but what I get from my PvP environment:
1)Cele d/d ele
2)Power PU Mesmer
3)Chronomancer
4)Condition PU mesmer
5)Burn guard
To me fighting other necros can get really frustrating sometimes.

I believe it feels squishy if you’re running GS without Soul Reaping staff and d/wh. I’m not joking I find a great difference from the reapers who do and don’t,about being melee it’s partially true since you have to be constantly in melee to regain LF but with DS you usually are as well or around 600 range I mean you are on the point right? Also it might be weakness Reaper doesn’t take curses at least the power ones from what I’ve seen so that also counts for something.

If you’re going into ranked matches and you have no clue how to play the new specs/class then you’re going to get flamed. People played ranked to win – it’s frustrating to lose because someone is playing a class that they have no idea how to play and end up being a liability.
If you’re playing unranked/hotjoin though, let the haters hate
This guys gets it same thing happened for the first PvP rev beta ranked was filled with complaints last time I took a break from PvP and just went to WvW it was too frustrating. Aren’t they limiting Stronghold to unranked? They did it for 3 untraditional maps as well do the same for specializations leave ranked alone even if calling it ranked is questionable. Wait until release.

I might be the wrong guy for this but have you tried swapping legends it seems they wants you too..constantly. I don’t like the restricted design of legend capabilities it’s more than Death Shroud but I think once energy cost on weapons are removed and you actually feels like you have two sets of utilities instead of attunements it would be better.

Only the cast time on Dagger 2&3.
Dagger is our Life Force generator.GS "supposed"to be our AoE dps weapon.
GS has a blind+cripple pulse, a 5 target pull+poison, chill on autoattack chain, and a burst 12 vulnerability.
Of course most of those need buffs to various properties like cast time, area, duration, etc… but the mechanics of the GS are much more than just an AoE weapon.
I think for AoE damage we’re supposed to use Reaper’s Shroud tbh.
Of course the GS still needs to do more damage than it currently does but I think dagger should still do more than the GS auto chain. Gravedigger spam on a target below 50% should do more DPS than the dagger chain though.
Honestly disagree on that statement. The dagger auto chain is nice for the damage, but it’s primary goal is generating reliable life force on a single target. And you can match it with warhorn for added LF generation and swiftness.
Nobody would have said this before reaper was announced. Dagger was our highest damage weapon for the past 3 years. What reason is there for this to change?
No no we settle down for it it’s acceptable but dagger main purpose was always LF gain to power up Life Blast it’s still needs improvements on #2(lower cast time) and #3(lower CD) reliable LF on AA is a blessing just like with staff but we can boost that one for LF on every skill. Axe/focus could replace staff if major improvements were made they have decent LF generation I’m waiting on Robert for that one hopefully.
It’s also the reason that power necro was better than condi which mostly relied on terrible scepter LF gain and a one trick pony burst style.
Edit: You could mix staff and d/wh with Reaper Shroud and you have yourself a pretty good spec free of those weak links like GS,axe,corruptions etc.

Just think how great they would have done if they had any other profession than a necro, that’s the entire point there is literally no reason for necros in PvP at all well except for easy kills.
Necro is taken for counter purposes it’s the closest thing to a cele,condi and ele counter probably somewhat a burst counter due to weakness. The only things holding necro back are base flaws and their rules of balancing but it has it’s place. I might be optimistic but eventually necro may become indispensable.

It wasn’t hard kind of a breeze except two, one that was using neither shouts or GS he had d/wh and was either cele or crusader definitely not zerk or maurader another was MM. From the outside point of view to make reaper decent so far is to mix the the best of necro and avoid GS and shouts except Rise if you know how to use it.
I kinda laugh more than I should when I saw a Dhummfire one especially at scepter…the most memorable thing I remember was stomp tricks with pulsing stab.

Please not this again about celestial and to OP conquest will always favor a more bunker focus look at thief/mesmer their primary assets are mobility.
If conquest favored bunkers, why did the teams with heavy bunker builds (ORNG and GLHF with bunker guard and TCG with shoutbow) not win? Abjured won partly because they utilized high mobility to back-cap ORNG.
If you look at the WTS team compositions, each has a celestial d/d ele (usually fire d/d) and a thief. Thief mobility and stealth support can’t be matched. Celestial d/d ele can hold a point for a while, 1v1, help revive allies, and has enough mobility to decap nodes. When you have a build which can do a lot of things well, why take one that can only do a few (damage or bunker)? Or if a build completely eclipses any others, you almost have to take it.
Additionally, you don’t see many other zerkers because thief (and mesmer to an extent) tends to keep them in check. If a thief engages onto another zerker, the thief can either win, or make the other zerker a non-factor in a team fight. It’s been that way for a while. The only zerkers which see high level play are the ones which can deal with thief pressure.
Exactly of course you would take what can do more but due to thief/mesmer design and then objective of fighting on point you will take a bruiser or a tank over a zerk other than those two. Bunker guard and shoutbow have more counters than cele ele so obviously you play to win.
If it has a frequent exploitable weakness don’t use it or make sure it doesn’t drag the team down. Despite nerfs thief still put other zerkers in check,has highest mobility,provides decent group stealth so it can’t really fell off and doesn’t drag you down bunker guard and shoutbow on the other hand do. Unless a non zerk spec can match thief mobility and a spec can dominate ele with boon hate,chill and not carry too many weaknesses the meta is set for conquest.

i have had no issues destroying condi builds using my build. earlier i roasted a necromancer in Mallyx with out coming close to dying at all.

Celestial ele is too strong right now. It allows them to hold points and do decent damage. When you can do that, why bring a zerker?

That would still be a nerf to p/d a major one the only reason it’s still used is because of WvW dire,food and/or perplexity and no I don’t trust them. If ruin thief is too much of a stretch let’s say they increasing the gap between specs and weapons drastically.

You forgot chill not impacting movement skills, nerfs to chill in general and that they are basicly adding traits that reduce chill duration to almost every elite spec.
This right here is bigger than underwhelming reaper as soon as the spec was announced it started happening but it follows the necro rules of balance sigh. Even before that chill doesn’t really feel used you either die or it gets cleansed it might affect ele more than others but not as strong vs them as boon hate. I would highly recommend that chill works every 2 sec instead of 3, asking them to make movement conditions affect movement skills’ travelling might a dream but I guess an improvement to reaper would suffice.

Whatever you do, don’t use it with slow on you incombat or you will find yourself ending up a mile away.

So movement skills aren’t affected by chills and cripples, but for some reason they’re actually BUFFED by slow?
Slow and quickness are action conditions not sure if they would do the same for those two though.

I think it would help d/d come into line with d/p. I might even add a blind to it.

Shadowstep on CnD ? No ty. First thing that comes in mind – broken surfaces that makes shadowstep work weird or dont work at all (all kind of hills, rocks, stairs, wolf poops in the way…).You realize shadow shot has this and it is just fine. Also allows you to port to players on objects. I think adding shadow step+blind to cnd would bring d/d in line with d/p.
My shadow shot works like 99% of the time…
Both would create a wave of nerfs I rather they add swiftness per foe or shadowstep to #4 and improve #3.

Context
Now I won’t claim that the necro is low tier in all game mode, because this is not true. Necro is meta in WvW backline, and has an average place in competitive sPvP. But this “decent” place should not eclipsed the many problems the class has.
I don’t understand the whole point of this thread.
1. WvW: Necro is one of the 4 most important classes. It is the single largest source of damage. The class is meta.
2. PvP: Really strong right now AND has a variety of builds that are viable.
3. PvE: Is there where your concern is? If so, valid point. The issue is how to buff PvE without make WvW and PvP insanely OP. Being OP is only for eles :p
1.They nerfed then destroyed mesmer glamour bombing so we could get a spot chrono wells are nothing to predeath glamour bombing.
2.We’re a counter class if what we build to counter is not here we are not needed that’s why I believe MM is our most potent build despite AI problems,all those specs use the same weapons and none of them cure base flaws.
3.I lost interest in that one but it’s not hard to see why we are the bottom in every category.

I don’t see why any of those has to give. If anything, I’d say axe and staff need improvements for ranged viability.
Add scepter to the list but I don’t feel comfortable having to get melee shroud to use shroud GS I doubt the effectiveness of staying close to your foe I still believe GS will be more of a PvE thing.

Well almost every utility except Shiro’s (and maybe the displacement and elite for Mallyx) are useless. Not a matter of numbers, they’re simply worthless.

The down state the lord is an interesting idea.
Couple questions though
1) If the lord is down, is there a limit how many times you can rally him?
2) If the guards are still alive, will they prioritize the lord to res him?
3) Should a condition be added to where the opposing team must stomp the lord to win? E.g. you can’t bleed the lord out while he’s in the down state.
I’m all for downstate lord but please no more handicaps for condition builds I already stopped playing them in PvP max rally times should be 5 don’t let the npc’s do everything so no they shouldn’t prioritize rez let the players do it.

OP logic is flawed, well first of all in a 1v1 shout guard vs burn guard (or any condi removal build):
The burn guard can keep applying lot of burns with just the autoattack, the support guard has to use long cooldown utility skills that aren’t really worth it outside of a teamfight.
In teamfight scenario my theory is that the burn guard has to be combined with another condi player that deals many different types of long duration condi (necro/mesmer) that will screen the burn stack hopefully make its removal harder and hit for a few more ticks.
They can literally wipe a whole team fighting closely on a point without them noticing
Negating 100% of condition damage would be broken it’s not intended, in team fights delaying their burst leaves them open for one. Honestly conditions are kind of underwhelming mesmers is a special case burning and sometimes confusion are the only ones you’ll bother noticing.
What’s the difference between not noticing a LB ranger or SD engi bursting you?

That’s lazy and copy & paste. The issue from my point of view is necro being weak with 0 LF not that we start with 0 but utility in shroud should have been considered since Death Shroud stopped being a downed state.

Thank you for the notice we expected the attention to be entirely on reaper during and after beta but mentioning base necro especially axe couldn’t be more appreciated I shall not bring doom for the next 3 years because of this at least I’ll try to. We’re looking forward to the results

DS Anyone?Keep in mind that some professions are harder to master than others. I believe Necro is the hardest, opinions may vary, but just keep this in mind. No we arent ignoring Necro, but once people start mastering DS, I’m afraid of how strong Necro will be. Give it some time for the average player to learn these things. For example early on in LOL master yi was dominant until people learned how to counter him.
I tried not to join but that’s a strong bait that’s permanent Jon. How long does it take them though?

That never works instead of giving back the bleed stack to Grasping Dead and Mark of Blood they nerfed it on all game modes and nerfed bleed in general.

I have a thread dedicate to Dhummfire I honestly don’t trust it I look at axe and see complaints and suggestion from beta and now we have to complain about it’s animation it’s not that they are terrible at balancing they are just unreliable and unpredictable(not so much that last one). Luckily I picked up “3 more years to go
” from a GW1 player to give me hope so I struggle daily.

If they delete Epidemic, I may just quit Necro altogether.
It’s my favourite Necromancer skill, it’s really unique to Necromancer and Epidemic was a prime reason why I got interested in Necromancer at launch

Then make it more compatible don’t use a PvE argument anything can work in PvE, at this point Epidemic is just like engi turrets effectiveness>theme.

We need 4 bounces on mirror blade and mantra recharge in background back.
Its sad to see how anet give in to the qq of a balanced class.
There a bunker builds who barely take any damage from my burst i hit one guy for 2k with izerker all 4 hits then what happens a engineer 2 shot me with rifle.
You need more than that to burst i know. But that is the hardest hitting ability.
Mesmer need help again to stay competitive. No wonder everyone is camping stealth.
No no they didn’t listen to the QQ at all if they did only CS and PU would have been nerfed. They did a “spin the wheel” over what to nerf to upset mesmers.

Nerf Burning base damage, buff Bleeding and Poison damage, and maybe throw some buffs to condi Guardians and Engis to compensate for the significant DPS loss that they’ll experience from the Burning nerf? Would that be a good compromise?
No they just need to nerf the only OP build that uses burning.
Condition specs are subpar even burn guard and ele have faded only condition mesmer seems noticeable but bleeding and poison are pretty weak they failed what they tried to accomplish.

They should seriously make boon hate more common they are trying with necro but in different ways for each class. Boons are on a rampage.

It’s not like it matters in PvE so yes I would trade it’s death for better applications I always saw it as an unfortunate obstacle. We should keep condition/boon manipulation though it’s too potent but it’s not like corruptions are attractive anyways the only common ones now are Consume Conditions as always and Plague even Corrupt Boon faded.
