No Achieves Because Other Players Are Bad...

in The Origins of Madness

Saint.5647

I think I spotted the problem, Akimbo. I think you’ve confused the word ‘achievement’ with the word ‘entitlement’.

Don’t think he did. Did you read his post?

He achieved the criteria. He and his team defeated his warden and destroyed his regulator. He also avoided getting hit by any marionette attacks.

He was unable to get the points because….someone else failed to do the same thing. Someone he didn’t know, couldn’t rely on, and couldn’t even help. I think you should check the meaning of entitlement again.

It’s like showing up to work every day and then on payday getting nothing because someone else in the office wasn’t working. These achievements are not dependent on your efforts; they should be. His problem with it is reasonable.

this can happen when you mix difficult content with open world. casuals vs. hardcore.

It’s what happens when a company makes a game that caters to average players, and then puts out a new release where average players fail the event 90% of the time.

^This. For whatever reason (lack of skill, bad luck, bad connection, first time, etc..) people do keep messing it up. I don’t know their reasons specifically and I am starting to get really frustrated with this event.

I have beaten it once. Some have not been so lucky. However, every platform I have ever been on has had decent players on it (if not great) and has had no trouble with any of the wardens. Yet, I am unable to get the achievements for my individual performance because a platform that I cannot even help is failing the event.

You can understand how it’s frustrating. I think the general consensus is that instancing would be a good move for events like this. I don’t have hours and hours to play each day. I have a few times where I can play and I would like to make them count. In a sense, this is the actual definition of a ‘casual’ gamer.

Players who are spending hours and hours playing this event spamming 1 on their staff and refusing to do any damage or dodge bombs are not casual gamers. They are bad gamers. And they are making this painful for us.

Can Ranger/Necs qualify for LFG "Speedrun"

For Guardians, you mentioned some bad traits. I main a thief which is pretty straightforward but have a guardian alt.

You said “hogging virtues, wrong utilities etc”. Can you please tell what you want out of Guardians (I have full zerker gear for the guard) – what you dont want them to do?

Yeah I did toss a few out there that always draw my attention. So the virtue hogging is when Guardians sit on their virtues on passive.

This is a huge tell of either a very, very lazy player (who is likely just spamming 1), or a very unskilled player who just bought the gear to look the part. A good Guard is spamming VoJ as often as possible. Blinds in general are a great damage mitigation and since it can matter in a run, Aegis is very useful to run too. I see many guards fail to use either Aegis either around the team or for the team.

A good guardian will keep track of the team’s Aegis status when they know a big hit is coming up. Is the boss about to drop some huge damage? Throw up an Aegis so that the party’s DPS chains can continue un-interupted. I think some Guardians selfishly hog them because they feel they personally need them all. You really shouldn’t need them at all and just use them for the good of the team. See zerking is all about the team spirit

Reflects are of course a huge part of playing a guard. Now sure there are some trash mobs not even worth tying your shoes for but for anything else (that has some sort of projectile attack), there is wall of reflection. This is pretty much a must for any guardian. On a similar note, it’s also your job to cleanse conditions. Virtue of Resolve is a condi cleanse to keep your eye on. Check your party’s conditions from time to time just like you’re looking for big hits to Aegis.

You know, they say to not play the UI, but to an extent you should. If your Mes is stacked with bleeds or something, why not take that pressure off of him/her? You can also cleanse with a fire field which is great in a stack because you will get might from it.

A good thing to not do would be to spam attacking for no reason. Alternate between S/F and GS for the burst. Don’t drop light fields for no reason, just to put down an attack. You will destroy the blasts for might and probably tick off any halfway decent eles you have.

Just because you’re in zerk doesn’t mean you can’t be a horrible player. People buy Ferraris all the time and drive like trash. Camping staff in all zerker gear spamming 1, ruining might with light field, and hitting #4, is terrible. You are doing nothing (if not actually negative impact).

So what can you do with the staff? Well, if you have a team that doesn’t blast, go ahead and #4 right before combat. Don’t keep it on you though. Either #4 right before the fight, and then drop a line of warding to LoS but swap out back to your GS. Good for running too :P

Anyways, check out Obal’s builds on youtube. He has done a lot for Guardians and they are way more detailed than this post will be

Well, on a serious note, they did have non BiS greens in Factions and NF. Uniques are always fun. I have wanted more exotics for some time in the game. It seems like we have very few to pick from.

Now for events like the LS or Storyline, there’s no problem with “Champion Risen or Champion Aetherblade Scrub” or whatever…but for the constant world bosses, there should be unique names and unique weapons. With a very, very rare chance to drop. That would keep people farming different areas of the game I think.

Well, you get more rings than you can ever use from fractals. If you run guild events, you can get trinkets pretty easily too. Of course laurels are great for nabbing those ascended items. It’s just not the only way.

Sustained Guardian DPS Build

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I asume that with S/T you mean sword torch

The problem is burning imo. The torch depends a lot on fire condition. But investing in condition damage and duration will take stats to do so. On top of that, the issue with conditions is that there is a max amount of stacks a foe can have. If you prefer solloing this isnt a big issue. but with world bosses it is cause he will reach the maximum amount of burning pretty quick. In dungeons it gets ugly too, cause there are professions that burn a lot better then you, by burning too much you actually limit them and bring your party down.

So the good thing to do is to leave the torch if you want a good dps build.
This means the sword has to go as well. The other off-hands are not focused on damage at all but protective. so thats no use for a dps orientated build.

So lets look at the one handed weapons. For your secondary weapon, you really should go with staff and use empower to build up might on you and allies. Then the main the weapon would be either GS or hammer. Both are very dps orientated. where the GS scores higher on the DPS and the hammer scores higher on the crowd control (so lesser misses). This setup would go great with a bezerker build (though see my note) so using power, critical damage and precission in both traits and gear.

(note: some change to critical damage has been anounced, this can make some changes but by the looks of it not much, cause it is the most expensive gear in the game I wanted to warn you bout this)

So bottom line, with G/S no valid dps build is possible and it is considered an oddball.

No. Please don’t do this. Your sword does not have to go. Sword auto chain is the highest sustain the Guard has. Sword/Focus is the meta and for a good reason. GS is your secondary for burst.

Do not waste a slot in combat on the staff. It brings nothing to the fight unless your party is miserably bad and you need might. Then, only use it before combat for might and swap out.

Don’t ever drop light fields in the middle of fire fields and ruin might stacks. Hammer is a decent weapon for certain situations as well. It is not really DPS oriented as the fella is saying. It’s defense oriented. It provides prot and can be very clutch in the right situation.

Check out Obal’s Guardian guides for PvE.

No, but you are the person suggesting and encouraging taking a dump on the efforts of roughly 125 individuals to prove some point. You’re suggesting wasting their time and their effort. Maybe you were just making a gesture without any meaning behind it. Just keep in mind, those commanders do a lot to make it possible to complete these events.

Yeah instanced would be the way to go. It would really avoid all the problems that content like this causes.

There are a lot of gameplay styles I dislike. I don’t like tanky builds and healers. I think they slow down the game and don’t add much to PvE. They take away from damage and active support that DPS players do through utilities. That said, I don’t join their groups to grief them. I stay my path and play with groups I know or PuGs that think similarly. I expect them to steer clear of mine as well.

Content like this is horrible because it forces these groups to play together. Instancing would fix this.

Scarlet was a huge success

in Living World

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

This idea of Scarlet “succeeding” has been brought up before. People mistake others hating a villain because they do villainous things that make us angry at them, and a terribly written character who makes us angry because having to deal with the awful writing is migraine inducing. Scarlet is the latter, what has affectionately been referred to before as the, “Jar Jar Binks” syndrome. A character no one wants, forced upon the audience in far too many scenes. The fact that Anet is pulling such a cliche twist at the last second to make us feel sympathetic for her is pathetic. Most of the characters from the LS are horribly written actually, but this thread is specifically about Scarlet.

Indeed. Joffrey from GoT is a villain I hate. He’s a horrible person who does terrible things. He has his own reasons for them though that are explained through the story.

Scarlet is a horrible villain because she just does things. Anet’s story is all ‘popup’ exposition. Characters and plot devices are introduced as needed. There is no setup or introduction. There is no reason to care.

I want her gone because she is lazy writing. I don’t care about her attacks. I don’t even know what she’s trying to do? Why am I trying to stop her (beyond it being a game)? Why are you trying to stop her? Probably because of the achievement checklist telling you to. That’s the problem. She is just downright lazy writing.

If they really make it this whole “she was good all along”, it will be the last nail in the coffin for me. My trust in Anet, the people who brought me the amazing years in GW1, will have really just gone out entirely. That is the most horrendously cliche twist that even M. Night Shamlyan would steer clear of.

Instances will Reduce World Event Overflow

in Living World

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I think we can all agree that the overflow system needs to be reworked in the near future, whether it be a system akin to GW1’s districts or (as suggested) a private overflow for large groups.

However, locking these events in instances would really hurt the casual players. (For the most part) Casuals just turn up at these events, get carried or maybe are invited into groups, possibly a teamspeak server, and can just play.
By instancing this content they have to specifically seek out large groups/guilds to play which for a lot of people is just a hassle.
And this will mean, a raidfinder and instant group invite systems are not far away.

Except that ‘casuals’ (whatever that means) are hurting the players who want to complete this content. The content isn’t tuned for low level stragglers. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard commanders say in map chat “If you are low level or aren’t serious about beating this boss, please consider a map change so that others who want the AP can come in.”

Now, for the record, I loathe this content. I absolutely despise everything about it. So, I say that low level players should swarm to Lornar’s very early and give those Commanders the good ol’ comeuppance they deserve.

You might be the worst sort of person. Based on your comment, that’s the idea I’m getting. Spiteful for the sake of spite.

Commanders are doing this because it’s a frustrating enough event as it is. The comeuppance they deserve? For what? For trying to coordinate a a blob (comprised of probably 30-40% terribad players) to victory?

Without these commanders or skilled players there, trash players would never stand a chance at this content. Not everyone has 4-6 hours to spend here daily.

The fault is with Arena Net for not making content like this instanced. They should stop trying to force us to play with people who are not going to be on board with the conditions for victory. It’s like forcing a basketball team to draft 50% of the team from people that don’t want to practice and will only play with their eyes shut the whole game.

The fact that it’s necessary to kick out low levels and non-contributors means there is something very wrong with these events, not the commanders. It should either be accessible and a joke, like all open world content, or difficult and instanced so that people can properly coordinate and strategize independently.

I don’t want my success in this event to be contingent on a lv 50 first time player who doesn’t know what the dodge roll is.

Zerker guardian with staff

What’s more funny is I got kicked from a fractal 49 once by a guardian wearing full celestial and running 0/0/30/30/10 while I was on my zerk (with a bit of valk) guardian. He called me useless and threw a hissy fit when I responded saying his damage is pitiful. He said he’s contributing way more than me by healing us with his f2 and staff 4. Find a guild.

What this guy said. Literally all of it except ‘find a guild’ is trash.

Don’t fake it till you make it. Learn it. Then you won’t be a trash player.

Don’t blindly follow what others do. If you’re still new, you may end up following a trash player’s advice.

DO tell people you’re new in dungeons. Otherwise, you can be like countless bads in dungeons who are clueless, don’t speak up, and don’t respond when addressed. Players will help you if you are honest and willing to learn/not argue. If you try to ‘fake it till you make it’ you will be booted fast and you will never learn.

Some of which were even sold for real money.

And technically all of them were in GW1 seeing as you had to pay for the expansion

Your shield arm must be getting tired. Your defence for them is getting weaker.

Thanks for that. This had me laughing for a bit. Very nice.

Not even remotely expansion level though. EoTN had a lot of story to it. It was engaging. I actually cared about the happenings. I couldn’t care less about Scarlet and whatever nonsense she is doing. Sure, they are pumping more story into it now but it’s too late for that.

The content is mediocre at best and its backed by ‘popup’ exposition. Characters and stories are introduced as needed. They don’t feel natural. They’re just sort of forced in there. Like when a friend who is horrible at telling stories has to keep saying, “Oh yeah I forgot to also mention X,Y,Z happened.”

With an expansion I would hope they can sit down and actually do it right by GW2. It was done well in EoTN…just do it that way.

I don’t mind the loot. I don’t have 4-6 hours a day to game. And that’s fine. It would be ridiculous to ask for the same loot that “raiders” should get.

My problem is with the wait time behind these sorts of events. It’s a huge time commitment.

I think the connotation of ‘casual gamer’ has drifted to terribad from the actual meaning of someone who just doesn’t play as much. Now I am getting very fed up with the attitude that these sorts of events should be reliant on PuGs. That is an affront to actual casual gamers imo.

Sure it’s fine for bad players because they can keep spamming 1 and failing for the next hours in the hopes someone will carry them but I don’t get that luxury. I know a lot of folks in a similar boat.

These should be instanced events or at least scaled within reason. Folks who play casually actually have the most reason to be well geared, experienced in their class, and want to spend the least amount of time waiting around and depending on random players.

Can Ranger/Necs qualify for LFG "Speedrun"

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

What makes common masses think they are bad, while warriors are gods, is that a MM necro or a bearbow ranger is easy to spot.

Nope. Not that they are easy to spot – they just exclude all rangers and necros. They would never see if you have a bear or a cat – once they see the ranger icon you are kicked. Even if you join as a ranger and want to relog to war, you are not given enough time to explain that.
And what makes you and the other think that the evil bow rangers, and shout heal warriors are really that bad? Theorycrafting, forum flamewars, some misguided pseudotests?

What exactly makes 30/10/0/30/0 warrior worse than the other builds? Or the lb ranger? Prejudice. Somebody somewhere said these are bad.

I say we need that bloody dps parser. Then they can kick my ranger for doing low dps, but at least it will be based on some sound facts…

I hope they do add the DPS meter. No where for bads to hide then. No more weak arguments for them to rally behind.

What makes certain builds better? What makes anything better? It’s relativity. Better in relation to X. So, since this is the dungeon sub-forum, “better” is determined by how efficiently the build and gear enables the player and their team to clear the dungeon.

So yes, shoutheals and bearbows are objectively worse for dungeon clears. I wouldn’t kick someone for being a ranger, but the second they start spouting off about bows and healing shout builds, I would. I just do not have the time to mess with that and I don’t have the desire to argue with every person who plays how they want.

Still, the writing has gotten better with this update. And having Scarlet become a force that also fights the dragons was something I hoped early on they would do.

Everyone has been hating on Scarlet, but like I said back then: It would really redeem the story if she wasn’t just some cliche villain. If she actually had a good motive, and if we’d end up fighting side by side at some point. I still hope that’s where they are going with this.

Hmm…maybe years, and years ago. I’m pretty sure that now, in 2014, that is a cliche villain. That’s the classic M.N.Shamamlalala twist at the end of it all. It’s a lazy copout for good writing. A villain CAN be the ‘good guy’ all along. Fable 3 kind of did it that way and it was passable. Doing it here would just make very little sense.

I hear what you’re saying. I’ve gotten more and more distant from the game. I think it lost me sometime after fractured.

Updates like this are difficult for me because I have a very time consuming job and I don’t have hours to wait around for events to spawn in the evenings. I realize that I am likely not their target audience anymore however it is still a factor that drives my interest down more.

I gave the marionette a go or two last night but each time another platform group failed. I don’t know if it’s weak player skills or bad team design for the event. I have not tried the wurm yet so I’ll reserve judgement.

Still, this LS update is better than ones we’ve seen in the past. Granted I think Anet is atrocious at writing a story. They don’t seem to think a few steps ahead (which is crucial in a good story). They introduce characters on the spot and invent backstory for them on the spot. It all feels very DexM to me.

That said, at least the current story is being fleshed out more and we have more to go on. Am I interested? I can’t say that I am…but maybe I’ve been biased against this because the LS to date has been so bad. Maybe their new season will have a fresh start and they can apply the lessons learned.

Anet needs to take a look at dungeons, every dungeon path there is, and adjust every little boss fight according to feedback. PvE needs changes. Silver Mobs, Bosses, AI (would be the biggest and maybe the most needed change) and when dungeons aren’t SKIP TO BOSS, KILL BOSS, LOOT CHEST, fix the balance in PvE. This is hard because they try to keep PvE, PvP and WvW all balanced at the same time.. I hope they realize that’s an impossible task (unless they’re fine with build diversity being futile in one area (it already is in PvE but they’re nerfing Berserker so let’s see what happens..)).

Nonsense! Just nerf all the classes. Take away utilities and armor. All classes can only use sticks! That will make it fun and exciting! It’s the new meta. Nerfway ftw!

True active defence promotes skillful play but are dodges the active defence we want for Guardian’s – A heavy armoured warrior. I feel NO! I’m no acrobatic thief that dodges all over the place.

I’m THE GUARDIAN – the defender at the front protecting all my friends punishing all who would attack.

In this way I feel the Warrior’s active defence flavour-wise performs better with skills like Berserker Stance & Endure Pain.

I’m THE WARRIOR – Feel my power your attacks are nothing but flea bites.

I don’t want to dodge. I’m a Guardian, I want to defend and punish any for attacking me or my friends. Give me more blocks, more counter-attacks, punishing reflects and maybe a little more invulnerabilities. Just don’t make me dodge so much. I want to stand there not more around.

Yes reducing vigor up keep is a hit to our survivability but should 5 trait points provide 100% uptime on vigor. 100% up time on anything should require more investment then just 5 trait points and in group play achieving 100% up time on most boons is easy.

The one effect the reduction of overall dodges I don’t like is the hit to Selfless Daring. This reduces not only our own healing but our group heals as well. How could this loss be replaced. Two ideas I had were;

  • Increase the heal from Selfless Daring but this could causes problems with permanent vigor.
  • Add another trait similar to Selfless Daring but operates on blocks.

Tldr: I would rather increase the Guardian’s abilities to block & reflect then have more dodges.

Do you even dungeon bro? Haha but in seriousness, a lot of players enjoy the active role. There is no “tank” in this game. I certainly wouldn’t argue against more blocks and invulns. available to us! We already have abysmal health and the reduction of that vigor will cost us some.

I do hope there is something added to balance it out (and not some increase to runes like Monk or Water that force me to play Cleric or something equally useless and boring in PvE).

Zerker nerfed, allow us to swap asc gear

Eh the thing is, at least right now, Zerker gear is pretty easy to play, even in most dungeons, even in higher level Fractals. That’s really the problem. It should be more difficult than it is right now.

Well I think you’re right in a way. It appears easier. The difficulty of playin zerk gear is the same as it always has been though.

The change is that the game has been out longer. The longer the game is out, the more experienced players become. It might take someone 2 weeks to learn mechanics and graduate to DPS gear or it might take someone else 1 year to do the same.

There’s no doubt that DPS gear is ruling the roost in PvE but I don’t think it’s because it is any “easier” than it has ever been. It’s just now revealing the glaring holes in the PvE design. Of course, for open world it doesn’t matter what you wear.

In dungeons though, people have learned just about all the tricks and all the mechanics. So yes, zerk gear is much more forgiving because the learning curve to the content is gone. The answer to this would be a PvE (or dungeon) overhaul to change the way enemies react and vary mechanics. Another answer would be new content that does things in a different way (that starts a new timer until folks learn everything about that).

I know I’m upset about the crit nerf. I think other folks are for the same reason. It wasn’t the only answer. It was the worst answer and it didn’t change anything. It didn’t revitalize the dungeon experience. It just made it slower for (arguably) everyone. I don’t see who benefits (except maybe the TP players).

My suggestions concerning dungeons

Noobiniser, some of them I like. Some of them I don’t. I am actually not against the idea of puzzles but I think they’ve been horribly implemented in this game. I think this could be fixed with more time spent in dev. Content seems to be rushed out the door before it even has its trousers on.

Puzzles and dungeons dependent on NPCs are frequent culprits. I agree with you that bosses should take a little longer. I really loved what they did with Teq for the most part. I would like to see more stuff of that caliber and maybe some new dungeon paths with challenging mechanics that go above just more health.

I just don’t think reducing crit damage is the way to do that. They seem to be treating symptoms and leaving the underlying problem alone. PvE could use some work. The classes may need balance later but only after PvE gets a proper fix.

As for the dungeons, I actually enjoy melting through mobs with a great team. I find it enjoyable and I would like it more than running around ranging and tanking, and healing, etc… I also don’t have hours and hours per week to play. I don’t want to spend it crawling through 1 dungeon with a party of clerics and PVTs taking 1 hour to clear a path.

I think the problem is if the game is doable in glass cannon build.

Wearing anything other than glass cannon just mean you are a bad player with no skill.

No, wearing anything other than glass cannon means only that you are wearing gear other than glass cannon gear.

Being a good player (with experience in your class, knowledge of the game mechanics, understanding of team synergy and covering down, utilities and build creation) means you can wear glass cannon gear and outperform someone in some other gear set.

Wearing it alone, QQers, does not make you elite. It makes you the first and most frequent to fall. Being a good player is the pre-requisite to successful zerk dominance.

I honestly think most of the people complaining about zerkers never stepped foot outside the open world gameplay or CoF P1 (or comparable content).

We don’t knock players wearing PVT gear if they are learning the game and mechanics. That’s understandable. No sense in going DPS heavy if you don’t know how to stay alive yet.

So to sum it up: If you are a trash player in zerk, your times will be crap anyways. If you are a good player, you are best served wearing zerk gear if you want to clear content.

Many of the whiners (I think) did not and still do not get this. Zerk does not equal insta win. Don’t look at DnT videos on youtube and think that zerk is an EZ mode ticket without playing that way yourself.

Fixing it?

Don’t join speed clears.

Ok, done. The problem I have with speed runs is that it scares away new players. That is not what the first dungeon should be like after you reach max level, It really isn’t…

I’m sure some speed runners would agree with my idea of implementing it in the game as one of many modes of doing the dungeon. with new rewards, but it being actually a CHALLEGE. you remember that word?

Well, mate, they should scare away new players. Or at least keep them away until they know the mechanics well enough. I see you’re talking about AC and CoF. Every post I’ve seen complaining about EZ mode stacking clears cites the AC spider queen. Scrubs wipe on her too. It’s not just standing in a corner. A party in Clerics gear can do that anyways. The folks who blaze through this content can do it without the stack as well. The fast times are not a result of stacking but rather a result of well synergized skills and high damage output. Stacking just simplifies it.

Believe me, take a party of scrubs, they will die even if they stack. They will certainly not speed clear a dungeon that way.

Don’t think that I’m knocking you or anything. I agree that there should be harder paths added and new mechanics here and there. Sadly these usually end up boiling down to ‘moar healths’ or ‘moar puzzelz’ everytime they make a change.

Hah it doesn’t look like it will be such a huge hit but we don’t yet know all the ramifications of it. I am sure full zerk parties will still blaze through content (seems the sigil rework may work in our favor) but I really think this will do irreparable damage to the community.

No one likes being forced to play a certain way. The LFG tool and this damage nerf are really sending horrible messages to the speed community. Of course some of the more vocal members there will certainly throw stones. It’s just a bad move to force people to play together if they don’t have the same goals.

I was always very clear in my LFGs about who I was looking for and for the most part people payed attention to that. I didn’t very often get random joins or poorly geared players. That said, I think now I will actually need to gear check more often to make sure.

You want the hardcore players to use lower damage like others so others won’t die?

That’s exactly what we want.

Tbf hardcore players using less effective gears doesn’t change casuals who die anyway in their gear (regardless of the stats). Nerfing berserker really doesn’t change the effectiveness of soldier armor, it just makes our hardcore dungeon runs a few minutes longer.

There is still going to be a divide between casual and hardcore… So really what they should have done is buff other gear types to make them worth using, specifically condition gears.

Lep, I’d argue that the divide will grow even larger. More steps in this direction will make wounds that can never be healed. If folks were being lax about gear checks before this, you can bet that it will indeed be “zerk or gtfo” without exceptions. We can no longer afford a PVT sneaking in and riding along.

There will also be a lot of anger toward non zerkers by folks as well. Most of which is undeserved I think (since it’s probably an annoying minority on these forums that QQd for this to happen).

This isn’t the be all end all fix to the DPS meta and giving more importance to condition/CC builds in PvE. They have more things coming, Ferocity is just the first step.

I hope it’s the last step as well. You should understand when the first step is to nerf like this, one shudders to think what the next step will be.

It has not in any way given more importance to condi/CC in PvE because they are still just as bad. Zerker is still the most powerful and highest damage. Since they avoided actually fixing the PvE itself, highest DPS is still the way to go. Condi and CC are still unimproved.

They want you to think that because they nerfed zerker, other builds are more viable. Don’t be fooled. If we reduced the height of all people over 6’3" by 3 inches, the people 5’ tall, wouldn’t be any taller. They would still be just as short as ever. The only thing we’ve done is inconvenience the people who were over 6’3".

No. The problem is people who are saying things like you. Hop over to dungeon for a bit and read up please. You will find that Zerker gear is not actually a ‘problem’ at all. The PvE design is the problem.

[PvE] Revising the "DPS Meta"

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Nerfing crit damage wont effect the meta. It might make rampager necro and engi stronger than their zerker counterparts though. But neither versions of those classes is an optimum choice for dungeons. Therefore meta unchanged, just slowed down slightly. People will continue to cry about being excluded from zerker groups.

Unfortunate too. A few observations & predictions:

1. Zerker groups take longer to complete but still complete faster than non-zerk groups. No real rebalance is completed since non-zerker groups will lose out on their crit damage as well and extend the time for their runs. Much QQ is still to be heard.

2. Some zerkers will take this as a personal affront and actively, and aggressively exclude and persecute non-zerk players because they believe the blame for the nerf lies with ALL players who don’t roll zerk gear

3. More vitriol in the community. More division. More QQ and no change to the real issues of PvE.

To clear the air about Berserker

There may always be a meta, but in GW1, the meta kept changing, even in PvE (remember SABWAY?). That hasn’t happened in GW2 PvE.

Changing meta is healthy for a game. It means people are constatntly re-evaluating what is best and adapting. GW2 PvE meta is stagnant.

Not looking to argue over it but the reason meta kept changing in GW1 was they kept adding new content, new skills, and new classed (thus new class secondary combos). The meta changed because it had a reason to change.

In GW2, it is an ‘artificial’ change. It isn’t changing because players are re-evaluating what works best or taking into account new skills. All the new skills added are largely useless and not used in the meta. A few new traits and updates have niche uses but largely there has not been anything useful added since launch to earn its keep and warrant a meta change.

We don’t know that it WILL change but if it does, it isn’t for the same reasons that it did in GW1. In GW1 you would have to run different builds in different areas because enemies had different abilities (or environmental effects). This isn’t so in GW2. Everywhere is the same formula. Until that is addressed, there will be no build diversity because it isn’t needed.
