Thanks for the reply, Seera.

I don’t feel forced to buy extra tabs. I’ve only got 3 bank tabs on my only account

And I’m a hoarder.

You still bought bank tabs though. My point with that was that the game becomes near impossible for F2P players at a certain point. There are all of these different items that have different parts and pieces that you have to combine for them to have any use at all.

1. It’s very manageable without many tabs.
2. So? They didn’t buy the game. I don’t really feel my heart going out to them about it.

[Spoilers] End of Raid Wing 2 cinematic rage

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Saint.5647

I’m real kitten jaded right now.

You are telling me, that one of the GW1 open story points, is going to be resolved in the KITTEN RAID!!

If Lazarus the Dire is the final boss of the last raid wing, I am going to lose my kitten.

GW2 fans who played their kitten hearts out of GW1, have been begging for GW1 lore to be pumped into the Living Story, and then you go and put the first bit of GW1 related story into content that only 5% of your player base is playing?

Thanks for the big middle finger Anet!

Thank goodness he isn’t being dragged into the open world to be a punching bag for karma farmers. Thank goodness he might be in an instances encounter where none of the horrible living story characters bi-conics are.

Let’s not be upset that the raids are interesting and have a developing story. I think the issue is that loving story and HoT has embarrassingly bad characters. Scrapping the bi-conics is a start. The raid is nice because your party is the focus along with the environment.

Can we stop the ascended armor madness?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Unless you’re soloing the raids, 2-3% x10 more damage is a pretty big difference.

Yeah, almost up to 20% more damage, right… right?
Getting ascended armor for the stats has barely any use, but you could argue it shows the dedication of the majority to how serious they want to play that class.

That’s not how it works. If everyone is doing 2% more damage, the group is doing 2% more damage. To have a 20% group wide increase, everyone would need a 20% damage increase.

Saint.5647

Maybe I’m in the minority here but I’m not a fan of hyperbole. I think this game is on the whole, very casual friendly. I only play (at most) several hours a week and am able to play what I enjoy without feeling penalized for missing out during inactivity.

Am I going to get every collection? Nope. I also don’t care to do so. If I did, I would make time in my life for them. “Grindy” things like that don’t make me happy and I won’t do them. Not sure why there is so much complaining about content like this. Either you enjoy it or you don’t. If you hate grinding but felt compelled to get “Ex Machina”, you’ve only got yourself to blame for your misery.

The complaints about timers in maps are valid in my view though. There are times when I would have liked playing AB or TD, etc.. but just didn’t have the time to wait for a reset. Still, FWIW, this game is quite friendly to casual players.

I just have a sneaking suspicion that many self proclaimed forum casuals are not very casual themselves.

Fortunately for OP, it’s an easy game to break from and come back later. If you’re bored just stop playing something that’s making you unhappy. It’s pretty simple.

FWIW, I am a “normal” player and I think the raids are fantastic. I’ll never be setting any records or anything. I play a few hours a week and with inactivity stretches of several weeks at a time and I still enjoy coming on for a raid night or two.

Find the things that make you happy, and do those things. Seems that’s often forgotten.

TIL Not Joining a Squad gets you called out

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I was a pug there, I never lead SCAR so I don’t know what you’re on about. I just remember how mad salty you were being called out that you were breaking the scaling even though the commander already had 20 in squad.

I don’t care what guild you’re in or who you think you are but that’s what happened from my perspective, as a person who was simply there for the meta following the commander.

In the end some nice people moved to other lanes from the squad because of your selfish actions. If anything it just made your guild EG look bad for thinking they knew better in a pug map.

If almost everyone in the 20 man squad wanted you to go away maybe the problem was you rather than the entire squad and with an attitude like “I’m Iris from EG I’m gud I know better than you” who can blame them?

If you don’t command it, let the commander handle it. It’s not the first time I’ve seen what’s being described. Right or wrong, a commander will go off on someone and their mob of ignorant squad members will follow suit.

For what it’s worth, “everyone” in a large number has advocated for idiotic things like “no AoE at red” in SW. Just because a large numbers of people want something, it doesn’t mean it’s right. The folks who figure out how to beat these events (or anything for that matter) are not the large numbers but rather small groups of dedicated players.

Ironically the person you’re bashing right now is one of the people involved in this process over several years. Bottom line is that if you’re upset with someone, deal with it through an actual discussion instead of torches and pitchforks. I have a suspicion there wasn’t a reasonable discussion held.

Yes, but not all of them. I would say the majority were fine. Some gave me more trouble than others but with some practice, strategy, and repetition, I was able to get gold.

I don’t think I’m alone in saying that Shooting Gallery, Fallen Masks, The Floor is Lava, and Scrap Rifles need to be tuned down a bit. Goes without saying that Punch-O-Matic does as well since no one has gotten gold there.

These ones are not only incredibly tightly tuned but also have either an RNG element, an absurdly high requirement, or both for gold.

Fix the exploits in Fractals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

All fair points, and you’re right, multi swamp per day isn’t particularly fun. It’s just something you put some time into and it’s done. On the flip-side, running cliffside with some of these absurd instabilities would be less enjoyable. It’s just as old, just as tired, and just as dry.

Are fractals bad? No. Fractals were cool content, years ago when they released. Now, they’re tired. The new instabilities are a perplexing decision and only serve to frustrate players.

It is no surprise people will do their triple swamp, stand on a post, go through lazy half rotations, and collect their rewards.

Frankly, even if they put up invisible walls and somehow invalidated any “cheez” spot, I’m sure more people would just stop running fractals altogether once they finished their backpieces and collections. I know I would.

If they are serious about keeping fractals around and not throwing it to the wolves like dungeons, they need to do more than patch up little bandaid fixes. Otherwise fractals will be dead in another year or so.

Fix the exploits in Fractals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

sorry, but lets be honest here.
You are not meant to fight mossman via going up in a tree clubhouse

these are bugs/exploits.

That said people would still pick these fractals due to ease of play.

and contrary to your opinion, it is a problem. It reduces the life of fractals when 90% of them are seen as wastes of time, fractals were never meant to be balanced against each other. the difference in speeds, goals, style of levels was smart design to keep them fresh longer, and make fractals as a whole more entertaining.

Now i wouldnt say they should stop people in a ham handed way, but rather create incentives to play fractals differently, for some players.

but yeah 9 swamp a day meta is not something devs should be aiming for. Lets be honest we arent playing swamp because its the most fun fractal ever created.

No one fights him up there on fractals without these atrocious new instabilities. Yes, people will always choose Swamp/Molten Duo. They’re the fastest. Again though, the new instabilities only served to make anything BUT swamp wildly unattractive. Being feared and immobilized every second isn’t fun, it isn’t engaging, there is little to no long-term counterplay. Of course it’s preferable to just chill on a little hut and get the daily fractal chore over with.

I would wager that with some engaging instabilities (or even the old ones back), you would see a lot more play in some other fractals. Nearly every instability they implemented is horrible and actually hurts enjoyment more than anything else.

Give us Solo Mode in Dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

As someone who is making legendaries, I find that I still need to step foot inside dungeons from time to time. It’s disgusting, I know.

The main issue I see is that Anet murdered the content but kept the requirements. The best solution would be to keep everything as is but increase the tokens per path to perhaps double what they are now. This won’t really mess with their economy and frankly gets the point a bit quicker.

Let’s be real. Who’s running dungeons? Legendary sellers and new players. Yes dungeons are soloable and maybe 2 years ago it was even “cool” to do so and some point of pride. I don’t give a kitten about soloing dungeons. I want my tokens and I want them fast. Team > solo mode. Tokens just need to increase and it will solve all these problems.

Exclusivity and Why I Don't Raid

I mean, then don’t raid? Not sure what exactly you want to happen here. If you want to raid, go for it. You might not succeed at first but no one can really give you that guarantee.

I have only done VG and I went with some friends of mine and their guild mates. I had a blast. For reference, I am generally very busy and raiding appeals to me but I dont intend to ever really get too serious about it. I don’t really have the time to be consistent with it. No big deal.

Tried at Gorseval for a bit before having to break the group and I didn’t kill him. Still really enjoyed it. No one really owes me that win. I would of course love to beat all the content but if it’s not gonna happen right now, it’s not gonna happen.

Are you Anet developpers? Do you do that because you can’t make causual player shut up as developpers so you do it as users?
Is it your job to criticize valid complains made by casual players who just want to have a good time?

Dang man, you came here to argue or just to vent? What exactly do you want from people?

As a casual player myself I’ll say I enjoyed raids. I only beat VG with a group of friends and tried a few times at Gorseval before running out of time. That was about a week and a half ago. I haven’t tried since and I won’t until about next week when I’ll have the time to put into it.

It’s a game. It’s nice to see you’re passionate about it but if you feel forced into content you don’t like, it would be best to re-evaluate why you’re playing in the first place.

If you still like dungeons, run them. I got tired of them months and months ago. I wasn’t upset about the nerf because it didn’t really affect me. I was a bit upset about fractal changes with toughness and rewards but I will still do them every few days and have fun with it.

Seriously, take a look at why you’re playing. You want to have a good time? Then have a good time. It’s not your job, it’s a game. It’s a hobby!

Casuals and semi-casuals value CHOICE above most things. They want the option to take on that tough veteran on, or avoid it. They want the option to go down that shorter but scarier path filled with raptors and go toe to toe, or take a difficult jumping path over them and avoid combat completely.

I see why the meta\hard core players love it.

I’m not sure I agree with you on this one. If I recall, it was a lot of these “casual” or “semi-casual” voices who cried out against skipping mobs or making encounters mandatory. Now, I might be taking up the sword against the wrong person here but I really think they’re getting exactly what they’ve been asking for.

In my opinion this content is a nice reality check. It’s very doable in full glass but not by someone with poor reflexes, lack of familiarity with the game’s mechanics, or the inability to think quick on their feet. Those who are unable to do this will likely need to think about rising to the challenge or trading in some of their gear.

It is entirely possible to run through mobs and avoid the majority of the damage. You may need to swap up utilities here and there as you go but it’s doable. The choice is there but let’s not pretend this isn’t exactly what was asked for.

Give it a minute and try to figure it out.

Liked the ready up, name still doesn't fit.

in Guardian

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Let’s put it this way: If the Guardian elite specialization had been ‘inquisitor/avenger/arbiter/paragon’ or just about anything else that has been thrown around , how many apologists of the name ‘dragonhunter’ would have thought that a ‘dragonhunter’ would have been a more apt name and clamoring for that change?

If the guardian elite specialisation had been inquisitor I’d be asking them to remove any overtly religious references. They’ve done a good job of doing that so far, and the specialisation isn’t anything to do with enforcing religious doctrine or rooting out heresy, no matter how close that is to making a pun.

Well, I guess it’s time for you to ask for the removal of religious references. Ironically, the name references exactly what you had an issue with.

A couple notes on Dragonhunter. We went with this name because we felt it was evocative of the medieval witch hunters. Guardians consider themselves protectors of the innocent. Followers of their faith be it in honor, valor, etc. The origin of the dragonhunter is a more subtle nuanced version of this. Guardians fight for justice and the dragonhunter faction believes justice is the eradication of dragons and their minions.

My biggest worry is that this will be a very dps unfriendly spec and that bothers me a lot. My choice is already between selfish single target damage/dps or full on support on my guardian. If the new spec is ranger lite with a side of light fields that everyone still hates then no…not for me.

It’s actually very DPS friendly. Not sure why you think your current choice is between single target DPS or full support but currently the Guardian has solid DPS that isn’t limited to a single target. Additionally, the Guardian can provide a full complement of support through traits and utilities while geared for damage.

The DH is going to augment this in a positive way. The DH traitline only seems to add more damage modifiers and encourages maintaining tethers. In fact, given the range of the tethers and traps, I believe the DH encourages players to stay within melee Range despite the option to play LB from the backline.

The trait rework Guardians are getting will make Hammer a very solid choice for weapon in PvE (even more so than already in Fractals). This won’t change with the DH. If anything, it will benefit even more from DH.

If we can compile a list of builds that contribute in some significant way to group content, and we compile a list of them.

Then we can also compile an accurate list of the ones we lose because of this change.
And when you actually have evidence.
People tend to take you seriously.

Please note.
I am asking for builds that will be totally erased with no viable alternative or modification with the new system.

Are you trying to be a kitten or is that just how you go about talking to people normally? When I have evidence? How about 6/4/2/2/0? Or 6/4/2/0/2 or 6/4/0/2/2? There are also some niche traits that come in handy for certain things too. Why limit that?

I don’t know what the new system will hold so I don’t know if they will be completely erased as possibilities. That’s why I’m raising my concerns and clearly I’m not alone.

Anet doesn’t really have much credit with me after nearly every change they’ve made so far has been made without 2 way communication with the players. I hope they make this right but forgive me if I don’t place my faith in them.

Exactly? If you can make said Fresh Air Ele, why would you pick a different build? You wouldn’t. The concept of tankmages is not a new thing for MMOs.

True, though there isn’t really a tank in this game.
So its really just a burst mage with extra survivability.
But you next point.

When the only (meaningful) thing one can contribute to a fight is dps, then the game design is flawed.

This has been the design of this game for a long long time.
There are no roles, you dont designate a tank, or a healer.

With this in mind.
How many VIABLE builds are there really.

Not 100,000+
probably not even 100+

So what does this change really do, besides make already stonger builds stronger?

It breaks the illusion of choice.
This is what I have seen people argue, it’s that whatever random trait combination they made will no longer be able to be made.

But here is a challenge ( mostly because I want to see if we can compile a list of builds that will not be modified but instead straight up deleted with the new content patch.)

What VIABLE builds will we actually be losing because of this change?

Pretty much any reasonable Staff Ele setup.

I have 500 skills points - What to do?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

So ANET, should I buy 2x Bloodstone Shards? Or should I save my skillpoints? You really need to give us more info on this. Wiping hundreds of hours of saving up skill points? And all you give is this vague info? REALLY? H O K A Y.

If the Legendary crafting recipes stay the same (i.e. you need the various gifts and the components to make them), then it “may” be better to buy the skill point crafting items before this comes in. At least that way you can pick exactly which crating components you want / need now or for future use. Otherwise, all those skill points will end up being taken and you’ll get…. well, we don’t know. And RNG bag? I’d rather be able to choose what I want, not leave it up to chance.

If the Legendary’s recipes were to change though, then it gets even more confusing.

I’m not going to spend any more skill points on characters now – it’s a waste. They’ll lose them all after the patch anyway. Only the map ones will stick. I’m going to hoard them and calculate the best spread of Mystic crafting items to buy for future use. But I’ll also wait to see what they announce in the meantime – won’t spend them all now.

I think it is something they really need to address for those of us working on our legendaries. I have some of the materials already stored up. I will be more than a little irate if the recipe suddenly changes and those materials become useless. I know I won’t be the only one.

This is my concern as well. I have materials saved up for the next 4 Legendaries I plan to make. I have just been waiting on the new precursor hunts and new Legendary skins.

I will be extremely disappointed if they shaft me and make this all worthless just to appease ….. well, I don’t know who this will appease.

How do we know the expansion will cost $45? Have you an official source? I’ve not seen any…

He’s speculating. It’s a reasonable speculation as well. Everything I’ve heard on the expansion so far doesn’t point to a $60.00 value. $30-45.00 sounds a lot more reasonable.

From what we’re hearing is sounds like we’re going to get 3-4 new maps. I imagine each will have its own Meta-Event chain, currency, and set of armor obtainable through collection. Then we will likely a Mordremoth Story likely the same length as two LS Seasons. We’re getting a new class and likely a city or two in Maguuma with a couple of new NPC races.

We’re getting a new PvP mode and map as well as either updates of overhauls of the WvW Borderlands.

Beyond that, they’ve said shockingly little. The Mastery System and Specializations seem like extensions of the WvW/PvP reward system into PvE mixed with the collection system implemented with Luminescent Gear. They’re overhauling some things that they broke in the NPE and doing some general improvements but to me this all seems like QoL that companies are supposed to do. It’s been a while since they’ve made any QoL updates.

So yeah, to me $45.00 sounds like a fair number.

Fractals only give 2 rings?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I was going to chime in to say the same thing along the same lines as well. I’ve spent the last few years working in research and very rarely have I ever seen a study with an abnormally high amount of trials. I don’t know where you have seen hundreds of trials run outside of simulations. In most situations it’s simply not feasible.

That said, my main concern with the Fractal rings is not the overall use of RNG. It’s that ANet may have written errors into the script. I wonder whether it is really independent or not. We already know that they have made errors regarding Ascended drops and Weapons in the Fractal RNG code. It isn’t reckless to assume that they may have made errors with the various ring types as well.

My thought on it is that they were unable to code a proper RNG system to they tied drops to occurring variables in the Fractal or the gameplay. This is much easier and sadly I don’t have the faith in ANet to suggest they wouldn’t do something like this.

Agreed again. Honestly, the best thing I found one can do is just forget about it. I spent 2 hours mindlessly killing Hyleks for AP yesterday and it wasn’t any more or less fun than SW or running dungeons.

I enjoyed talking with friends on TS while doing that. Anything in game is a backdrop for the social interactions at this point for me. If HoT is good, that’s excellent. If it isn’t and the same problems persist, it’ll just be another backdrop.

I’ve paid more money for things I’ve enjoyed less so I don’t really regret this game in any way. It has potential and I hope it lives up to it.

Fractals only give 2 rings?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Is this true? I only get the ones in said attached file.
I’m hoping to get a Berserker ring sometime soon, but it seems like prestine relics will be the way to buy it.

Pretty sure their RNG is complete crap because many times you’ll get doubles of the same ring even though the chances of that happening are really low statistically.

This. I only ever got a few Berserker rings. I did however have many, many multiples of Megellan’s Whorll, Rurik’s Signet Ring, Vassar’s Band, and Rallena’s Band…..like a lotttttt of those.

Fact is that they have admitted to their drop system and reward system being broken in Fractals before. Even modifiers like potions for dungeons were broken for a very long time. In theory it is all RNG but RNG has to be based on script yes? I’ve thought for a while that they might have some numbers wrong and either are not sure how to fix it or don’t care to.

I don’t want to repeat the details about this, since this has been discussed in other threads multiple times, but the fact that you just have to get gold to get nearly everything in this game is simply not fun and creates the inclination to farm gold most effeciently, e. g. doing 5% of the activities the game offers and ignoring the other 95% of the game.

Agreed but the reason they don’t do that is because those exact same people who can’t make money would be the ones who cry when the only way to get X armor set is by completing Y content.

People are people. Some of them are nice, some are terrible, most fall somewhere in between and vary depending on the mood they’re in. It’s just something you have to deal with, not just in GW2 but in life in general.

In my experience this game does have a higher than average number of nice people, but it definitely has it’s exceptions too.

I think all your friends, or you or I or anyone else can do is to remember that individuals issues are their problem and carry on with our own lives.

This might be the best comment on the forums. A lot of folks will gloss over it but this is true. People are all just people.

For the price of a pre-built, you can build a way better one. I can walk you through building your own. You certainly won’t regret your own PC.

Are you rolling Sylvari for HoT?

Not going to roll anything until I hear about how NPE is rolled back and fixed. I would like a fresh Revenant but I want to actually be able to use the skills and traits.

Same thing that happened to 90s clothes. I don’t think many are looking to revive the obnoxious PvE stomping.

I remember the concept art for the sons of Svanir and corrupted Icebrood. I remember thinking it would be player armor. On board with you there.

Too many frog-people

Just wait til you have been playing in the jungle and only the jungle for 2 months or so. It’s gonna get old really quick. I still contend HoT will not feel like an x-pac. It’s one climate type. Frogs won’t even matter after 2 months. You will be dying to visit Frostgorge Sound again just to get a change of scenery.

I am reserving my final judgement on that. My knee-jerk reaction is to agree and speculate that there will be only 2-3 zones at most. Coupled with the fact that they have stopped producing LS in order to work on the expansion leads me to feel that the x-pac is basically LS Season 3.

I may be pleasantly surprised though. If they really flesh out those zones and couple them with world wide changes that lead into S3 right away I will be impressed.

Yeah, it is wind based but it’s the closest to the look I imagine you want. More legendaries would be welcomed. I’ve been hoping for more looks for armors and weapons besides “flames” as well.
