Honestly, I think it’s an open world habit for people. In most cases staff was the best mob tagging weapon and thus the best loot generating weapon.

A lot of folks couldn’t care less how they scale the content as long as they get more loot, and honestly, I don’t mind when it comes to open world content. It’s ridiculously easy.

Aware that SW awards no loot however a lot of the casual open world players are the same ones who own 1 armor set, 1 or two weapons, and are generally unaware of how to play the game. What I mean by this is that they got a staff to maximize loot in open world events, and they won’t be bothered to change their weapons.

View a vista?
Hahaha. Lowies dont see any vistas on the map.

If that’s the case, then it’s really a pointless addition. As I said in my response to Vayne, that would have been the only reason to include such a daily in the rotation.

Still, as a means to make players log in, the dailies are going to maintain their function.

No one has said that dailie achievements were a challenge. In fact, the game had very little challenge.

Sure, I don’t find it difficult either. Over the last few days however many players have complained about the accessibility of these dailies whether is be through schedule, skill, etc…

The purpose of the daily achievements was to get players to experience other areas of the game and reward them for doing so.

Do you have a source for this? I stand by the opinion that the true purpose of the dailies is to make players log in. Simple as that. It’s a way for Anet to boost metrics (now in all areas of the game).

And in the old dailies, they had laurel vendor sometimes, in which all you had to do was talk to a laurel vendor. Just wondering if you posted about that too?

Whether intended or not, that particular daily had the effect of showing players where to redeem their laurels if they had never previously done so. The WvW badge redemption had the same effect. Now, whether this was the best method for doing this or even intended, I don’t know.

If I were to speculate, this particular daily might have a similar purpose regarding drawing new players to the vistas. The reason I find this questionable though is that the NPE already directs players to points for exploration.

Regardless of the intent, all of these dailies are easy and have always been easy. I can’t say I really care one way or another. The old system was 100% fine in my book and a great improvement over the one before it. This one is fine. I would have preferred they spent their time/resources toward something else.

Simple solution is to add back the dailies that they removed. If you recall, once upon a time the dailies were limited as they are now. Then they expanded them and now they have limited them again.

As food for thought to anyone who says “but where’s the challenge,” I say….cmon now…. the challenge? The dailies are kitten easy and have always been kitten easy. If we’re gonna be honest, the dailies are a carrot on a stick to get players to log in for an arbitrary reward. Now, in addition to that they have added an actual reward simply for logging in. It has never been more obvious that they want people to log for metrics.

Let’s not pretend that the dailies have ever been a challenge or something to “achieve”. “Man the daily is so hard today,” said no one ever. The simple solution that I think will please just about everything is to just add back a greater variety of dailies.

Selling LS achievements ?

in Living World

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Using the LFG tool to sell anything is a violation of the rules. If you see people do this right click them in the LFG and report for abusing the LFG feature (it’s actually an option in the report feature).

Living story achievements can only be earned once each per account. I wouldn’t recommend “selling” the achievements to other players as that may be a violation of the rules. At the very least it is a grey market. Those selling the achievements in the LFG tool could very well be scamming players.

Bring facts not speculation. This sort of fear mongering isn’t helping anyone. As the poster above said, dungeon selling is allowed. To my knowledge a distinction isn’t made regarding LS instances.

3. Better storytelling. I do think the Season 2 story is much better and closer to the GW lore that I love. The pacing could use work but I am genuinely interested to play more content centered on old GW lore mixed with …..

However yes, there likely won’t be a change anytime soon. Personally I’d like a party leader system to enforce some semblance of party structure. It’s just as flawed as anything else though. People with bad intentions will always find a way to grief and ruin the fun for everyone else.

Sadly for now the best advice will be to play with friends.

This "Meta" has to end

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Those that think the Meta has to end should come up with something better and end it.

If you don’t like something but take no action to innovate, to design, to create, or to influence change, then your opinion might as well carry no weight.

The world is full of people just unhappy enough to gripe and whine but just complacent enough to do nothing to change their lot. If you don’t like the Meta or the “culture”, do something about it.

The people who made this the standard are doing that every day. They make videos, they make guides, they push their times, and they do this in several aspects of the game. Some of the same people absolutely crushing it in dungeons and fractals also hold the record for kills on the Living Story bosses. The same enemies that are supposed “Zerk killers.”

They do this because they innovate. That’s the same reason most of you are complaining about “cheezy” strategies that half-decent speed runners have not used in months. If you think good players are pulling bosses to walls and stacking in corners, you’re either dreaming or you haven’t been paying attention. Watch some recent videos and see for yourself.

The corner stack was about using the FGS 4 to its full potential. With FGS out of the Meta, there is no longer a need to stack corners and lure bosses. Now times can be even faster! So, if you’re unhappy stacking in corners…don’t stack in corners. You’re playing the leftovers of an old Meta and you likely didn’t even know why you were doing what you were doing.

So No New LW Till New Year, Right?

Saint.5647

Yep, indeed it will be taking a break, quite surprising.

I would say it either means that Episode 8 is not the last episode, or that episode 8 is so big that they do not want to drop it just before most employees go home to celebrate Christmas with the family.

Your shield arm is mighty.

I am genuinely curious though, how and why you hold such unwavering faith in a company in which I assume you have no personal stake?

I’ve played GW1 and 2 since Beta and have had some truly great and unforgettable memories in the world of Tyria. I care about the franchise and I care about the Guild Wars world. This is why I’m baffled as to why you continue to make excuse after excuse for the people currently producing content for this world.

Judging by the frequency of your posts, I’m assuming that you care about this game/world too? Why then, do you continue to turn a blind eye to the damage being done to it? When a franchise you love is improperly handled, cheaply monetized, serialized, and treated with a blatant disrespect to the lore and the characters, it should sting a little as a fan.

Star Trek fans paid close attention when JJ Abrams took the helm in rebooting the popular franchise. Star Wars fans are intently watching Disney’s handling of their beloved series. Long time readers of the Ice and Fire series no doubt focused in on the production of the HBO series, Game of Thrones.

Fans care about their games for various reasons Krall. It is rarely the right answer to try to silence fans or encourage passionate players to find a new game. This leaves only a homogenous voice of un-questioning support for a company that may or may not have your best interests in mind! At that point, it is nearly too late to effect any change or maintain any oversight in a game you’re passionate about.

I think many people have memories, experiences, and personal stakes in the GW universe. As you have many times said, it is Arena Net’s game world to program but I don’t think it is entirely theirs to mold and create. It isn’t a case of like it or leave it That’s not how liking or loving something works. I hope you keep that in mind as you interact with passionate players hoping to preserve or improve their favorite game universe. I look forward to a discussion, no doubt.

Wouldnt be an issue if people just started their own groups. :P

Agreed! Well half-agreed.

The zerk only thing I feel has a ‘chilling effect’ in the classic sense. It gives people who don’t know better the idea that they can’t do the content or are playing ‘wrong’ and discourages people from using the content.

It’s better now, a lot fewer people are demanding zerk, but the damage is largely done.

Only if we assume all players who don’t know any better are mindless sheep. I don’t think this is the case. Ignorance in a subject can allude to but does not confirm general stupidity or lack of desire to educate one’s self.

In short, people have the ability to question and to learn. When confronted with zerk only groups, a newer player should question why this is the case. I think we owe it to them, as the existing community, to give a fair assessment and argument as to why the game meta currently stands as it is.

I think we may agree to disagree on the dissemination of information as a disservice or “damage done.” The interpretation is entirely up to the beholder, as it were. In that regard I think the experienced PvE community has done a lot to provide that information to the general GW2 community.

Reporting "Kick player" abuse (fotm/dungeons)

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I wish the dev had implemented a “Refuse to kick” button, so the group has an option to cancel a kick request. That way I can protect the one being kicked for no good reasons, instead of trying to get rid of the kicker and cause confusion.

Upon requesting a kick, the entire party is transported into a new instance.

The party spawns in Court of the Mists. Here they are expected to quickly and quietly take their seats pending the beginning of a formal hearing. Each party member is called forth, one at a time, to give their account. They are then cross examined by the appointed representatives of each respective party member.

The Court adjourns for a period of 15 minutes before bringing out expert testimonies. These range from “LFG Griefers”, to “Dungeon Soloers”, to “Forum Personalities”. Following expert testimonies, a 10 minute recess is taken before the Court officially rules in favor of or against the proposed Kick.

The party is then held for an additional 30 minutes pending the processing of official paperwork. The party then takes an Asura Gate leaving the Court of the Mists, one at a time, each taking care to retrieve their personal belongings/gear from the security claim at the exit.

Since transport from the Court of the Mists is a Tyrian State funded gate, it takes 500% longer to load into the instance than normal. Upon their return to their instance, (plus or minus the proposed kick-ee), the party is left to reflect upon their actions and recent events.

They draw the logical conclusion that content should ideally be run with friends, Guildies, or not at all

Holy crap, how are these threads still happening? You don’t have to play with any specific build/gear. If you are interested in the Speed Clear community, you will most likely have to abide by the rules of that community.

This is the case in GW2, it was the case in trinity MMOs and games like GW1. Yes, there were more skills in GW1. They were however un-swappable mid instance and tied to weapons for utility and attributes. This meant that you needed to spec a very certain way to participate in the GW1 Speed Clear community.

Want to bring your random mix-match paragon into a UWSC? lol….good luck finding a group. Here, bring a random Bonetti’s troll farmer warrior into DoA…again nope. There were specific builds expected to be run by every class and every player. Variation was of course necessary for niche areas or strategies; innovation is always necessary. For the most part however, if you wanted to chase speed or efficiency as a team, you were expected to play your class, your build, and your role.

No one stopped you from going 8 Water Eles into FoW just like no one is stopping you from going 5 P/P Apothecary Thieves into Arah.

If you’re pestering Speed Guilds and groups under the false pretense of being competent and geared to their specifications, you’re a part of the problem. Don’t like em, don’t play with em. Don’t agree with em, don’t play with em.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Saint.5647

shrug That was just my opinion on the matter. You were looking for a way to buy Ascended gear. Crafting is such a way. Crafting isn’t tedious in my opinion. It was always rather quick for me and provided me with quick leveling as well as a lot of freedom in the endgame as far as Ascended gear goes.

Now, it’s not that I don’t support a better system for getting this gear in Fractals since the RNG there is very wonky. To an extent even the World Bosses that drop as well. Still, I don’t think it should be available for something like World completion.

Yes, you’re right….you could buy gems and convert to gold but that can be said of anything in this game. You can buy every Legendary if you want. As far as gameplay goes, Ascended gear has a high enough mat cost to keep it unattractive to players who are not interested in that min-max or Fractal gameplay.

One mans sole gripe

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Well, there are other options.

Ascended Weapons tokens for doing certain task.

World Completion? Weapon Token
Level 80 in PvP? Weapon Token
Level 40? Fractal? Weapon Token

Things that are attainable.

That, or ascended weapons chests, allow you to choose the stats. I got a ascended armor drop. With clerics stats.

The thing is that Ascended gear is attainable. In my opinion it has no business being a PvP drop since PvP does not use Ascended gear.

Fractals already do RNG Ascended gear. I 100% agree that the RNG in Fractals needs a rework…and so does nearly everyone else on these forums. We’re still waiting for them to do something positive with these numbers.

As someone with 7 World completions, I disagree that it merits Ascended gear. Ascended gear not needed for any of the content in this game except high level Fractals. All of the content in this game can easily be completed in Exotic tier gear. Ascended gear provides that extra stat boost that min-maxers will really enjoy. For the average player though, Ascended gear won’t add that much extra to the game.

I don’t think that something as easy, albeit tedious, as World completion deserves Ascended gear.

That said, I think that if your initial suggestion of buying the gear straight up were to be implemented, the cost should be considerably higher than that of crafting it.

Well, in my opinion, these items were designed for end game players. That is to say, the veteran players with maxed out crafting and gear. A lot of the LS content expects that players will be able to go anywhere and have access to a lot of resources.

I think that’s a reasonable and fair expectation given the game’s age. No offense to the OP if he/she has been playing since launch, but I think that at this point, it’s not unreasonable to expect someone to have their crafting disciplines to at least 400.

Well, you CAN buy them. You can buy everything to max crafting and make the gear on the spot. If you can afford it and think it’s worth it.

I think their idea was to add a tier of gear for people who are truly dedicated to min-maxing their characters. I think that’s a pretty good idea for an MMO. I appreciate your opinion being a moderate one though.

The forums are rife with “I don’t like it therefore it needs to go!” You do have some RNG chances to get ascended gear but overall I don’t know if straight gold to gear purchasing would make any sense with the crafting system already in place. Not saying it’s right OP, but people more often care about how you address them instead of what you address them with. I’ve never run with you (to the best of my knowledge) but it seems like most of the comments that have some semblance of civility to them point towards your social graces and interpersonal tact.

Now you can of course assume that everyone will read your post and interact in a very businesslike fashion but it’s likely a recipe for disaster. A “hello, how’s it going?” can actually go a long way. No one likes to be greeted awkwardly with “ping gear and traits.”

It’s much like extending your hand to shake with someone you’ve just met and having them blow past you asking you to show you the latest figures on X, Y, Z business deal (just as an example). It comes off as rude and leaves a very nasty impression. You might very well be a great guy/gal but you’ve got to give people a chance to see it.

More often than not, people won’t care what you know or how good you are. If they don’t like your attitude, you could be leading them by the hand to the fountain of youth and they would still drop you from the party. Like it or not, it is an MMO where if you’re going to PUG, you’re going to need to get along with others.

So, OP, you can either keep trying to put square pegs into round holes or with very minimal effort, you can make a nice first impression and observe some simple social graces, and then really blow them away when they see how skilled you are throughout the dungeon.

Maybe you’re doing all of this and still having back luck. If that’s the case, sorry to hear it. Best of luck though!

[Suggestion] Dungeon revamp and ascended gear

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Hmm not entirely. A lot of the dungeons paths share about 25% of their territory. That’s just an approximation but the amount of ground that needs to be added isn’t that extensive.

Just using Arah P4 as an example, we’re able to get a whole new story and some more background and Lore using a lot of the same areas as paths 1-3. AC uses a lot of the same areas as well. If there is well done story telling and interesting advances, I would still be very excited to see this.

Additionally, it’s been quite a while since we’re visited these dungeons as characters. I think in canon we only really visit them once and then we’re finished. These paths could give a chance to show changes in the dungeons. This wouldn’t make it unacceptable to re-use a lot of the same areas; it would actually make some sense.

[Suggestion] Dungeon revamp and ascended gear

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Agree with Hybrid. The AoE circles might make dungeons more approachable for newer or less experienced players while doing nothing to affect veteran players. Plus, for some reason I think they add a clean look to everything.

Not sure I support an HP increase for all bosses but a cooldown decrease on their powerhouse attacks would be nice. It could put more pressure on groups. It wont be some insane challenge but it could add a little flavor to a (imo) dry experience at this point.

I’ve stopped actively playing for some time however I was, and still am in support of more paths to existing dungeons. The reason being is that there is so much story we can explore. The current paths are “frozen in time”. New paths would allow more story to be told about the dungeon to include current stories that could tie in the the Living World and the Lore in a more complete and up to date way.

I’d love more stories in AC harkening back to GW 1. I’d like more stories in CM regarding plots against the Queen. I’d like to see a “greener” Arah where players fight to cleanse portions of the dungeon. Anyways, these are the things I was really passionate about seeing when I was an active dungeon player.

Hopefully the LS can bring some of this our way but if not, so be it.

Saint.5647

I’m certain that if some of the folks here would spend more time thinking about Miku’s post instead of trying to posit theories or tell him how to play, they might find that he has a very valid point about Mesmer mechanics.

He’s not asking for input on how to play the Mesmer but rather for a discussion regarding the LS and Mesmer mechanics. Perhaps the funniest thing has been the fool who linked his own video back to him as if to say L2P.

My take is that in an attempt to make their LS content “cheez” proof, Anet went over the top with AI nullification. If I were to put myself in their shoes and task myself to prevent content from being “cheezed” my first targets would be afk ranging and afk AI. My experience in the game to date has shown that a lot of general players will try to get through content in this manner if they’re unable to beat it through skilled play.

It’s probably some overcorrection for the AI in the Mesmer that’s the problem. Enough people have discussed it to warrant a forum topic. Don’t think the OP is off the mark.

Saint.5647

Yeah…P/P thief is trash. What are you on about? Ele absolutely IS a great class. Top tier DPS with lava font as well as the quickest and most reliable way to stack 25 Might in addition to Fury.

OP, the classes in this game are very solid. There are some pros and cons that you will find as you play. That’s ok. You will need to adapt how you play to the class and the situation. Each of these classes is a very solid choice for either PvE or PvP.

As far as Eles having trouble, I doubt that. Eles are in a very good place as a class. There is a bit of a learning curve to the game but the sooner you learn that you can’t stand still and get hit for no reason, the better you will get. Also worth nothing to not waste your dodges on small attacks either. There is less wiggle room on Ele than say, a Warrior. Each class has some solid ways to mitigate and evade damage. Focus on those and really learn how to play the game.

Once you do, you’ll have no problem pushing good damage with any of these classes and providing unique but equally useful benefits to your party such as Might/Fury, Ele weapons, fields, reflects, stealth, Aegis, blasts, etc…

Not a huge deal. Once I figured out that “Now’s your chance to get close” means you’re about to get blown up by some serious damage, it was a pretty easy and sort of enjoyable fight. Zerker gear included.

20 mins getting 1-shotted by bosses until I’m naked. Getting thrown against bosses with ‘secrets’ where I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, when I’m supposed to do it and how? It isn’t a challenge, it’s a frustrating waste of time. I’m out.

Haha absolutely true! I got rekt and downed the first time doing this fight by that nonsense. I had the audacity to trust him for a second time before getting downed again. After that I just took it to mean he would stand still long enough for some Ice Bow 4 and Meteor Showers.

Actually a very easy fight with and without the challenge node. Just ignore the moron NPCs.

Caithe's Blossom too hard to get?

in Living World

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

The Blossom isn’t really “hard” to get. You will just have to finish the story 3 times (once for each piece).

The Tangled Paths one on the other hand….brutal 2000 Crest grind.

Pick any none playable race that you would play in game and add what class would you pick for that character.

(1) Tangu > Thief or Warrior
(2) Hylek > Elementalist
(3) Kodan > Warrior

How’s about this rotation:

Pre-stacking might:
Scepter/Dagger: Fire 2 -> Fire 4 -> Fire 3 -> Arcane Wave -> Earth 4
Swap to Staff: Earth 2 -> Fire 2 -> Arcane Brilliance
Swap to Dagger/Focus: Fire 4 -> Water 2, 5

Engagement: Ice Bow -> Air, Lightning Storm -> your normal DPS sequence.

Rotations work in Theory but not in actual fights.
You need to use skills based on situations accordingly.
Every situation changes in every second of a fight so I recommend tossing the rotation out the window and know what all your skills do individually so you can better prepare yourself for whatever comes your way.

xD Iris is quite familiar with Ele. She is giving OP more things to consider as are most of the folks commenting here.

@OP: look at what oxtred posted. It’s solid. A very fun class in and out of instances as well.

PSA: How Farming Works

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Saint.5647

Everything you asid was right, but…You seem to completely ignore the other side of the coin.

If a farm is too profitable a number of things happen that are bad for the game:

1. creates a split community. The people who participate in the farm quickly gain wealth, while those who don’t are left behind. This leads to a rich get richer, poor get poorer scenario where the community is fractured.

2. Mats become too common, continually falling in price until they eventually hit vendor price. This may seem like a good thing until you realize that the only thing that keeps most people playing the game is having long term goals. If they can suddenly buy every awesome skin they want in one day the game quickly becomes stale and boring and many players leave. This was a major problem in the beginning of the game and is why ascended gear was introduced. Devaluing ascended gear like this farm did is going to end up with a lot of players quitting and they may need to add in a new gear tier to bring them back.

The “rich” are not out there grinding for mats to sell. The “rich” are flipping legendaries and looking for emerging markets on the TP. Farmers are like a nice upper-middle class. Taking them out of the game is doing exactly what you think you’re preventing. These people are generating materials and items from their gameplay. They’re taking money out of the game and adding items of value for the consumer to buy. They’re ensuring that you can actually afford to buy mats and weapons.

Let’s stay away from statements like “only thing that keeps most people playing the game is having long term goals”. You don’t know what goals people set in the game. Stale and boring are 100% opinion based. Let’s stay away from assuming players will quit because Ascended gear is being devalued.

Objectively, farming is making mats, weapons, and gear more affordable to the average player’s wallet.

Final fights were overtuned and unenjoyable

in Living World

Saint.5647

How are they “overtuned?” This content is literally designed to be non-DPS content. It’s nothing like dungeon content as you claim. This content is nearly 100% mechanic fights. Dramen hit it right on the head. If you’re dying it’s not your gear….it’s you. It’s you.
