I might be in the minority here, but I find plenty of the game content challenging. I’ve died on several occasions just trying to do personal or living story. I’ve failed group events because a couple of people didn’t know what to do. I don’t know how to do every dungeon in the game because learning them is hard, especially when nobody will teach you because “lol u noob” kick.

Yeah, my comment wasn’t intended to kitten on anyone there but it’s just my opinion. Most of this game boils down to two things:

1. Individual skill
2. Knowledge of the encounter

Individual skill to me encompasses how well someone knows their class and how well they can play on their feet. To me this means that if you’re an Ele (for example) you know how to keep reliable might stacks up and play with solid DPS rotations. It also means that you’re quick on your feet and are able to play proactively but also be able to react to wildcards such as a downed teammate or needing to CC a mob with little warning.

This goes for all classes though. Aside from individual skill, knowledge of the encounter is the next big one. I think that’s where you’re comparing yourself to folks who have spent years speed running dungeons in organized groups. There’s a level of coordination there than you won’t learn with PuGs but doing this really makes all the encounters generally predictable. Enemies will react in a certain way.

It’s the same way as any mob in the game. Enough experience with that mob (given you’re observant and not just spamming 111111111) will teach you how to counter that mob. The first time I fought the Mordrem Thrashers, they caught me offguard. After a few encounters and paying attention to the description under the name, they’re a piece of cake. That’s generally the way it is in this game.

So, that’s all I meant by that.

Shrug Don’t take my saying this as an excuse for Anet but if you think we’re going to get something akin to solo-ing Lupi in open world adventures, I think you’re mistaken and setting yourself up for some serious disappointment.

GW2 is not a very hard game. I don’t think these adventures will be such back breaking challenges that people are assuming. In short, I don’t think this is where you will find your hardcore fix.

That said, I’m sure they do vary in difficulty. I’m sure they also vary in style as well.

Sylvari: Anet was planning this since 2007

First all, Angel’s comment should be enough.

If it’s not, Colin Johanson talked about the sylvari origin on a recent Points of Interest and he mentions that Ree Soesbee was planning it since the beginning. He talked about how Ree was revising and revising the tutorial and sylvari personal story text, trying to make sure that they didn’t give away too much of the secret. It has very much been a core part of sylvari design since before GW2 launched, it’s not a PR response, it’s not a change made by a writer you don’t consider credible, it was planned by one of the people who was integral to imagining both GW1 and GW2.

Honestly, Angel’s comment isn’t enough for me. I haven’t watched the PoIs though. It seems there was more information revealed there from what you’re saying. Again, I have no real option but to take it at face value.

Well, about the people this is aimed at . . . nobody in that group cares. If they don’t believe it on one red post, they’re not going to believe it on two. Or four. Or ninety. They already have their minds made up….
I’ve dealt with this kind of thing before in a CS capacity – there is no satisfaction possible.

Don’t put words in my mouth dude. I can see that you’re fed up already but we’ve never actually discussed anything together so don’t be a jerk to me based on your past experiences.

I do care actually. For me, the Red Poster is more important than the Red Post. Ms. McCoy has been involved in narrative fumble after narrative fumble. When it comes to Red Posts from her or Colin, I expect PR. There are however Red Posts that I really appreciate for their candor and openness. Not every employee of a company speaks with the same weight in my opinion. Some

From my perspective, it seems like something they came up with recently. I don’t think they’ve had a very solid idea of where this game was going and I think it really showed. Seems a lot of folks really enjoyed taking the kitten out of Konig but the guy does know this game’s lore. Honestly, I think Anet fumbled with the narrative, lacked consistent writing, and as a result we have a number of lore inconsistencies and retcons.

Is it possible to cram some sort of an explanation into lore? Sure. But it still won’t be consistent with the rules GM’s set for their own world and you’ll get the same feeling you get from LOST or Mass Effect 3, or any other case of “let’s break the universe for this one particular instance of dramatic reveal” followed by a deus ex machina explanation.
It just tastes sour.

This is the result of these narrative fumbles in my opinion. Now, I hope that they have a strong direction now. I think they do and I think that’s what is going to take center stage at their PAX South announcement. I stand by saying that they did break lore left and right. I’m not saying this to incite and argument but I’m saying it in the hopes that they are in a place they’re happy with (lore wise) and the story can continue now within these new parameters.

  • How does the nightmare fit into the picture?
  • Why do sylvari have free will? Is it nature (a replication of the forgotten spell) or nurture (the Pale Tree grew powerful away from Mordremoth’s will and is able to protect the minds of her children through a combination of her magic and the virtues from Ventari)?
  • What does this mean for sylvari from other trees?

1. I’m not so sure about nightmare anymore. I used to think that Nightmare was dragon corruption for Sylvari. When theories about a Jungle Dragon started being thrown around some years back, I thought that the Dragon was responsible for Nightmare.

2. Well, we know that Malyck wasn’t born to the Pale Tree. If he remains un-corrupted, we can surmise that it’s likely that Ventari’s nurture had little to do with Sylvari protection from Mordremoth. Past that, I’ve only really got my own theories but nothing very strong yet.

I think Evon’s angle would be riding a popular hate movement to power- something that’s had frequent success in real-world politics. Kiel, meanwhile, would essentially be in a position of turning on a chunk of her constituency- not to mention she’s a painful enough do-gooder to give Logan a run for his money.

As for idea of anti-sylvari fraction, that could be a good idea.

I fear however, that ArenaNet might simply not have balls to make fraction like this, because in today’s world they could’ve been easily accused of similarities with 1939-1944 German propaganda. Despite obvious major differences, but hey, who would go deeper?

I hope they do but I agree with you. I’m not so sure they would go there. The story is getting better but for the better part of Seasons 1 and 2 it has been extremely shallow with very few deep and interesting characters.

It seems that more and more is being attributed to the doing of the Dragons. I think they are set to tackle a black-and-white narrative. I’m always welcome to be proven wrong by Anet though. I have been saying for some time that the Pact needed to go. It was too convenient.

The Races, Nations, and Orders were and are much more interesting. I hope they explore the tensions between the races more and truly make you feel important as the hero binding these races together. It would be your responsibility to involve yourself in the civil wars and separatist movements within each Nation in order to maintain a Union in Tyria.

In this way, your suggestion would work very well. I’m sure Caudecus would love to take this opportunity to gain support against Queen Jennah and her policy of racial tolerance. I’m sure the Inquest would love to use this fear to gain more support for their method of experimentation. We know the Blood Legion only accepts Charr alliances because it isn’t willing to go to war with both Iron and Ash at the same time.

There is material to tell a complex and interesting story here. They could even make players think about the hypothetical implications of their decisions in the real world. It would be very nice but I doubt they will do anything like this.

There is also one other thing to keep in mind. Caithe warned that “Sylvari have already started losing their minds. Mordremoth won’t stop there.” Could that mean that Mordremoth can eventually dominate non-Sylvari too? We didn’t see any signs of non-Sylvari getting corrupted by Mordrem yet, but what if that changes once he awakens? Sylvari may be more vulnerable due to their heritage, but maybe all Mordremoth needs is to infect animals with his spores and he can then mentally command them too. Truly nobody in Tyria could be trusted if that happened.

Mordremoth absolutely can corrupt non-Sylvari as well. Mordrem Wolves and Mordrem Trolls were both once non-plant based life.

If we assume that Tyrian cell structure is similar to that of life on Earth, we can assume that Mordremoth’s corruption can and does extend beyond plant corruption. If you look closely at Mordrem Wolves and Trolls, you can notice that his corruption is seemingly parasitic in nature when it comes to non-plant life.

I am not sure about Teragriffs and Healers. I have a hunch that Teragriffs were once Colocal but this could just be my assumption based on their appearance. Since we have never seen a non-Mordrem Terragriff, we don’t know if they exist un-corrupted or if they have been created by Mordremoth as a minion.

In short, Mordremoth can and does corrupt non-plant life.

The sylvaris’ origins have been part of their design from the very beginning, since well before we launched the game. Kudos to those who figured it out before the revelation.

Lucky, Ms. McCoy adds about as much storyline credibility to GW2 as Michael Bay does to cinema. Essentially, I agree with Freeelancer. I don’t believe that. I don’t think the writers knew where the story would be going and I think that’s why we have as many lore inconsistencies and retcons as we do.

That said, I have no way to disprove Ms. McCoy’s statement nor does she really have a way to prove it was indeed all planned. Our only option is to take it at face value. I sincerely hope they didn’t have it planned since 2007 though because if they did, they did a kitten poor job at it.

My guess, and my hope, is that they decided on this course within the last 6 months or so and are now have a vision of where to take the game. Despite the Minion theory not being one I supported for lack of lore-based evidence, I hope they are going to drive the game forward with a vision in mind. This will reduce future lore inconsistencies.

Let me try another shot for you; yes zerk loses less % of damage, but to repeat, you’re probably not going to lose the encounter either way and non-zerk groups are more likely to be non-optimized and lose less due to the ‘per stack’ nature of the change.

As far as practical effects, zerk groups tend to be dependent on speed to survive because they’re more reliant on active defenses to keep alive. Losing speed hurts zerk groups a lot more because they’re more likely to wipe out if the fight goes long. They’re also (often) more likely to stack, which makes an active defense failure more disasterous.

I think we’ve got a bit right on both accounts here. Point being that encounters will not likely be lost based on the might lost from this nerf.

If history and patterns are any indication of things to come, this nerf will affect most greatly one group; PvE Zerk Tryhards.

This group of players is generally everything that people complain about when they complain about Zerk Meta. They are the folks in DPS gear with a baseline understanding of the encounters who do rely on speed to complete. They waste dodges and spam skills without bothering to learn better rotations. I think these folks will continue to eat kitten with each passing nerf.

These are also the players I run into the most in LFG PuGing. Guild/Friend groups with skill and experience will likely go hardly affected. Non-Zerk players will also not really be affected much either since they hardly relied on their damage output to complete content. It will take them longer but it won’t be noticeably more difficult.

I wanted to bring this up before it devolved into some Meta vs. Non-meta debate with a lot of stored up rage on either side.

I hope this was a clever way to do away with the Pact. It was too convenient. It was too easy. The Pact was this monolith with untold resources and bodies at its disposal. I think the Races and Orders are far more interesting.

I think that the alliances should be maintained but more attention focused to the Races and Orders. If I go into pure-wishlist-mode, I hope they take a page out of the GW:Factions split Kurzick/Luxon campaign.

There is no reason the Orders can’t work towards the same goal with different missions along the way. Imo, the Pact is boring. It served a purpose with Zhaitan; it showed Tyria that together, they could fight and defeat the dragons.

According to Oxford racism is: The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

I guess i know what it means…

Is racism a bad thing? Yes it is. Is the word “racism” a bad word? No it’s “a” word. catchword ? maybe in some countries, but it’s been in existence for centuries now.

But this post is not abut discussing a word, so… don’t post if it’s not about the topic.

The definition does not apply at all. Here’s why.

1. Homogenous (content filter….smh….just take out genous) Sapiens Sapiens is the only race of Humans. Modern Humans are biologically alike regardless of what we refer to as race. The races being referred to in the definition of racism are social constructs. Humans of different origins and ethnic groups do differ in appearance, culture, immunities, disease risks, etc…

This is because of genetics. Humans living in a certain area tend to breed in that area with people who share similar traits. These traits however do not define this ethnic group as biologically different.

We can talk about this at more length but I think this point is a fair simple summary.

2. This is not the case in Tyria In Tyria (GW2) there are different races. These races differ in the way a Human, a Cat, and a Dog are different species. These races do have different characteristics and are biologically different. Sylvari, for example, have an entirely different cell structure than the other major races of Tyria.

3. Yes, I agree with Ayrilana and disagree with the OP that these home instances are “racist”. Yes I realize I made a huge point to distinguish real “race” from the races of Tyria. This isn’t on the basis of semantics though.

Not racism. A wood burning stove may be found in a Norn home but not a Sylvari home. Doorways in Human homes are roughly 7 ft. in height but probably closer to 15 or so in a Charr home.

Charr having more spacious homes is not racist to Humans. Norn having wood burning stoves to cook on is not racist to Sylvari. These things are “unfair” in the conventional sense but not unfair when you consider the biological differences between the races of Tyria.

It only becomes racist once you imply the worth of an individual is below or unequal to that of another.

tl;dr – The races of Tyria do “possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race”. It’s only racist when you use those features to distinguish races as inferior or superior to another race or races.

OP, know you’re not the only one. It’s very cool of you to come and post what you did. A few weeks back, a friend and I were discussing this very thing while watching an Ele camping in water and auto ATKing with Staff #1.

I stopped even going to this event with my Ele because I generally don’t like to argue with the people in map chat. A lot of players who don’t understand BASIC mechanics let alone the specific encounters populate this game. Nice to know this is filtering down though.

Rhapsody has it. I used to run fractals and dungeons daily with a group. Over time, most of us have gone inactive for various reasons.

I play only a few times a week and I’ll be kitten ed if it’s with random, rude PUGs. I play with the friends or guildies I have on who I know are good players and a good time to play with. If there are not enough people on, I’ll just do something else.

Many Arah sellers are doing legit runs. They are quick and efficient at solo Arah play.

If you see people selling without Lupi killed, it is and exploit as they left the map in order to skip around the boss. This is not like skipping Kholer as a Kholer skip is performed well within the boundaries of the map. This is not like skipping mobs with stealth. These are all within the boundaries of the map and performed using class mechanics in a clever way.

Skipping Lupi requires leaving the playable area of the map and is an exploit. Please report people who do this. They put a bad name to dungeon selling for the otherwise ignorant.

Idk, I rather like the ooze section. In fact, it’s a mechanic that a lot of players who don’t like the “DPS Meta” should enjoy. It relies pretty heavily on controlling and guiding the oozes.

Shrug I still like it. I could do without the cutscenes in the dungeon but the puzzles are not bad.

I actually thought armor repairs were reasonable. Of course I don’t mind them being free now but it harkened back to Death Penalty from GW1 and served as a small incentive not to die.

I agree, at this point they may as well put anvils everywhere, or just scrap repairs altogether if they’re going to be pointless.

Won’t comment on this one, I was toxic enough for today. I lol’d at the fgs part, though.

Try the Noob guild, they help people inexperienced in dungeons.

Maybe read before judging people’s experience I’ve been playing this game for 2 years using meta, even doing hardcore dungeon speedclears but I am sick and tired of doing the same thing in same content for 2 years straight.

So, don’t do the same thing anymore. I have also been playing since launch and have had many dungeon partners and friends quit or take extended breaks from the game. Everytime I found myself getting strung out or bored of the game, I took breaks as well.

The folks that know me and play with me on occasion know that I don’t log very regularly but when I do it is enjoyable to do a few runs with friends or whoever happens to be on! Why ruin that for people?

We know that content is the issue, or rather lack of new dungeon content. New dungeons can introduce new mechanics and spice things up. Right now, we’re playing 2 year old dungeons and we know nearly every tip and trick in the book thanks to the research and work of some dedicated members and the community’s input.

If it’s boring for you, make it fun by playing low man, solo, naked, etc… Or just have fun doing something else. PvP, WvW, even just roaming around and chatting with friends can be fun. If none of that floats your boat, there’s this huge world offline which I hear can be pretty cool.

My opinions on warr vs. ele for speed solos

It’s strange to me that they’ve drawn this imaginary line between what they will and won’t separate. PvP builds and gear are separate but the skill balancing is not.

I am surprised they didn’t take a page form GW1’s PvP and have separate PvE/PvP skills. This could open the door to solving a lot of the hot issues debated by many players. For instance, I read a pretty good post on here and agreed with all the points regarding the issues Necros face in PvE but a lot of changes would break them in PvP.

Anyways, hopefully they decide to make this change later. I know they want to be taken seriously in the ESports scene but GW2 is very different from LoL in gameplay and in community.

Didn’t they do that on some bosses but we just figured out how to manipulate the AI to get them to stay put? Kholar moves, but we pin him in a corner. Hunter moves but only if you target him.

Not saying they can’t do better, just saying they did make an attempt.

Somewhat but it seems to me that enemies don’t move and attack at the same time. I notice that when enemies are attacking they are stationary and they need to stop moving to attack. Not sure it’s true or anything but it’s something I see.

I agree with OP to an extent. For the $60.oo I paid for this game, I think I more than got my money’s worth. I’ve spent more than that on drinks for people who’s company I don’t enjoy. For $60.oo I got a great game, adventure, and fun community of players and friends to interact with. I like this game a lot and I’m passionate about its future. That’s why I tend to be critical of the decisions made regarding its progression.

I vehemently disagree with the position, “If you don’t like it, don’t play it” at face value. If you truly dislike the game, the mechanics, the community, then yes…don’t play it. However, I like the game a lot but I disagree with some of the decisions being made regarding its future.

Being told “If you don’t like it, don’t play” comes off to me as saying “If you don’t like your country’s political decisions, leave” or “If you don’t agree with the current administration, don’t vote.” Many of the Forum White Knights are very aggressive in their rhetoric against open discussion and free speech.

The fact is, I do love this game. I care about it and I want to enjoy it for years to come. If I don’t like something, I will voice my opinion. I won’t stay silent and I certainly won’t move to silence the voices of other players. So, in that sense, I do agree with the OP. The line, “If you don’t like it, don’t play” is a bullkitten line. All it does is get in the way of productive discussion that could actually impact the way the game is being built and driven.

Trying to figure out a race/class to play?

So, welcome to the game. Yeah, the changed the leveling experience so that it takes a little longer. Everyone has their own opinion on it; I agree with you. It is too slow and limiting.

Try out melee on the ranger though and try out a few different classes too.

Q1. So Guard or War…Depends which you enjoy more. I would say both have nice learning curves. In PvE Warriors provide offensive party support through banners and have good access to quick self buffing. Guardians provide defensive support. Both have good DPS and both are welcome in the PvE meta.

Q2. To trade between characters just use the banks. They are located in all major cities, some outposts, as well as can be accessed through crafting stations.

Q3. Erm, so check out which armor sets you like and then wiki them! There are a ton of different sets but it’s hard to point you in exactly the direction you’re looking for. You can type “/wiki” in game to access the wiki

They should wrap up the dragons with s3 this year, and then release an elona expansion based on palawa joko.

I’d prefer cantha but I know that won’t happen.

Yeah and I have great ways to write off the Dragons. Primordus has a giant rock fall onto his head. Jormag dies do to global warming. The Deep Sea Dragon dies do to all the pollution we dump into the ocean and Kralkatorrik, well we just conveniently find him dead.

LMAO was a good laugh. You have a talent for creating stories my friend.

On par with S1 story telling hehe.

Would be good to have a couple campaigns released via LS though. I don’t know anymore if I care for a boxed expansion although I certainly wouldn’t deny it to anyone else. I do think LS can work if they get it through their heads that they’re not making a mediocre TV show.

Of course you can duo the dungeons. If that’s what you would enjoy doing, start practicing together. I think there are some class combinations in different dungeons that will make certain things easier. It’s all doable though.

Try to ask around for help though if you’re actually trying to do with a full party. No sense in playing solo if it’s not fun for you. Like other have said, it’s very doable but generally takes a lot of practice and experience in the dungeon to do.

Well, the trolls are corrupted with fungal growths and the bee hives are actually growing inside the trolls’ bodies. If you look closely at them you will see this. It is also confirmed in the wiki. The wolves, we know as well are corrupted by parasitic plants and remain under Mordrem control even when the host has died. Interestingly, the wiki says that they’re not wolves but Sylvan Hounds. I didn’t know that to begin with and was just basing my theories on observation.

Regarding the Teragrifs, I am not entirely sure whether their skin is bark or a chitinous shell. There is an undeniable resemblance between Colocals and Teragrifs. Teragrifs are of course more aggressive in appearance and have horns. If they are corrupted Colocals, that would explain the chitinous features.

As fas as the Menders go, I think they are similar to the trolls. Their corruption seems fungal in appearance and their flesh appears to show massive signs of decay. Again, I am unsure of the texture on their arms and legs. They either resemble thick, leathery skin or bark from the corruption. Still, to me they seem like corrupted Mergoyles/Gargoyles from their stature, animations, and appearance. If you take a close look at the face, you will see the same pointed jawline and chin. It could also easily be a re-used resource though and I don’t recall Mergoyles in the Maguuma Jungle.

The thrashers and husks are indeed organically plants and do have organs so no difference of opinion on that. No reason Sylvari wouldn’t also have organs and function.

So, in GW1 there was a game called Polymock where you collected little figurines and used them in the Polymock arena against NPCs with different pieces. You beat the NPCs and unlocked their pieces to use.

It was sort of a turn based/Pokemon inspired quest-line given to the player in Rata Sum and required players to fight their way to the top and beat the best Polymock masters out there.

In GW2 the Polymock arena is still around in Rata Sum as you can see on the map but it’s not accessible to players. In other words, such a thing exists but has not been added to the game or was removed before launch. It’s sad I would like to see it as well. More expansion dreams.

For starters this is very op. It also moves further away on what the Guardian is… In that he is Not a Paladin.

Except a Guardian already can grant quickness to the party. Naming conventions aside, the suggestion isn’t unreasonable.

As far as comparing fantasy archetypes, the Guardian is the closest fit to a Paladin. Regardless, the appearance of the class has nothing to do with the skill-sets. I think the OP is asking for a more accessible quickness than the Tome, which is only useful in niche situations.

I’ll also echo what others have been saying. The Guardian needs to have the Shield and Torch seriously looked at and improved.

The only internal organs they are missing for certain are the ones for reproduction. For anything else, they probably have at least something akin to organs that emulates their functions. (As example, their digestive system might function akin to the liquids in pitcher plants)

Though, there’s a high degree of “It’s magic!” with sylvari biology and not too much on their anatomy beside that blog post…

Well akkkshhually le sigh the Mordrem are not necessarily plant creatures but rather creatures corrupted by Mordremoth. The wolves for example are dead wolf carcasses with parasitic plant creatures on them (likely responsible for killing them). I am not sure if the Teragrifs were Colocals or if there are non-corrupted Teragrifs further into Maguuma. You will notice the trolls have also been similarly corrupted.

So, since you’re using the Mac beta, I am going to assume you will be lacking the processing power or graphics to run the T1 WvW. Your world choice is not permanent. You can swap worlds if you like although some may cost you more gold than others.

The TP is constant across the game so your world will not affect this. For general PvE gameplay, it isn’t too relevant which world you are in since you can still play with your friends and guildies through the Megaserver.

There isn’t really an “endgame reward” as you say. The benefits of a top tier WvW world are minimal unless you’re absolutely passionate about WvW and want to be a commander in one of these servers.

If you’re new, take time to learn the game and experience different aspects of the game. The first play-through is quite nice and magical. Play around with different classes and really learn them. Then a few months down the line you can re-consider which server is best for you once you know what you’re interested in.

After 2 years of being dreadfully bored with my Human T3 Guardian I decided to go an entirely new direction. Instead of just mix-matching with T3, as I had been doing for a while, I went with a Desert/post apocalyptic looking Guardian.

Inspired by many movies, shows, and comics, I think this is a pretty unique look. At this point in the game is it very commonplace for flashy armor and back-pieces. I hope y’all like it as well and feel free to play around and make it your own!

Guardian Misnomer?

So I’ve played my Guardian all the way to level 80 and played it at 80 for a couple of weeks now. I don’t understand what the title “guardian” is supposed to mean in this game. Maybe I’m playing it wrong, but there is no aggro management to speak of nor elemental defense that I have seen. WvW is a joke. I haven’t found anything to make you immune or even resistant to movement impairing effects so I can’t even stay on my feet long enough to fight in WvW. What is the actual point of this class? I have since gone back to my hunter, but I’d love to know what I’m missing in the Guardian since I like to play the protector in MMOs.

WoR guards your party from all incoming projectiles and reflects them back to the source to deal damage.

SoR guards your party from all incoming projectiles by destroying all incoming projectiles.

Sanctuary guards your party from all incoming projectiles as well as keeps out enemies away from your party.

Aegis guards your party from an incoming attack. A good guardian is aware of enemy telegraphs and uses Aegises wisely to negate large damage dealing attacks. Retreat, VoC, and SoR all grant Aegis. And additional Aegis may be gained by using Renewed Focus to recharge VoC.

Protection guards your party from 33% of incoming damage. Guardians are able to keep Prot. uptime up as long as they are traited for symbols.

Hallowed Ground and SyG guard your party from being knocked down and chain CC’d.

Purging Flames guards your party from enduring enemy conditions by 33% as well as guarding them by curing three of their current conditions. VoR also cures conditions when traited with Absolute Resolution and guards the party similarly from conditions.

VoJ, Leap of Faith, Flashing Blade, Ray of Judgement all guard your party by blinding enemies.

It does go on but I’m sure you get the point by now.

Good joke. There were some achievements in this game reliant on great skill, effort, perseverance, or courage. Still looking at the people who complained about Liadri or Triple Trouble….likely the same people who tried to cheese them or gave up altogether.

Let’s not lie to each other. There is nothing remotely challenging about the dailies.

Notice how his definition cites (as do you) perseverance. Playing 150 rounds of Snowball Mayhem might not be challenging you on a skill level the same way Master-league in Starcraft 2 is, but it requires persistence and effort.

In a way, whoever said above that they should start a thread asking for all achievements to take significantly more effort is right: Most current achievements are pointless.
They require nothing. You get them automatically, more or less. Why even have them in that case? Just because the skinner box trick works so well and there’s a significant amount of people whose brains will encourage them to continue doing something they don’t enjoy at all? (and hence lash out when the amount increases, as per this thread)

Because yes, it does work. Basic game design.
But it’s also really really kittenty game design, and frankly I’d like a game to have zero automatic achievements for once.

Yep. Although, if you read my post, you will see that it’s about the dailies. An easy thing to miss though since both the dailies and the grindy achievements are being discussed in the general thread.

In either case, I agree with you as well. I actually enjoyed gaming before achievements became a thing haha. For whatever reason, people are compelled to do insane things like 150 rounds of Snowball Mayhem for achievements.

Nothing about that suggests anything beyond persistence I also agree that these achievements should go away. If it’s not an achievement, it shouldn’t be there. To an extent, I think there should be a certain amount of general story ones to encourage replay or to encourage players to play certain content or visit certain areas. Past that, I’d like more like Liadri or gambit achievements for general play.

Maybe you just suck? If you think one or even five players are causing your breaches to fail, you’re bad, and your entire map is bad.

Reporting people for AFKing is ridiculous. As others have said, there is an auto-kicker to boot from the map. If you think breaches are “impossible” without a zerg of 100 PV- skill-clicking-baddies, you’re a bigger problem that 5 people AFKing for pocket change.

Stop taxing in trash, learn to play with a 5 man group and complete any of the events of breach bosses yourself.

I would love that. Granted it would have to be instanced to limit only 5 people to complete a map. Could open the door for some cool Solo VQ records as well. It would be pretty pointless to open world train this. More 1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1 and dead people who wouldn’t WP.

Let’s not lie to each other. There is nothing remotely challenging about the dailies. There never was. That’s ok. They’re not there to challenge anyone. They’re there to encourage people to play daily! (duh) They did a pretty good job at that.

Regarding some of the changes however, I have to agree with the OP. Let’s take a daily like “Complete 4 events in X Zone.” Used to be that you could complete events anywhere in Tyria and boom. Now you have people flooding a zone to wait for events to spawn. It reminds me a little of waiting on mob respawns in WoW. Certainly not what GW2 was about IMO.

In my eyes, the only thing that this does is extend the time needed to complete this daily by making players wait for the events to spawn. Completing 4 Events in Caledon is not an achievement. It’s not “something accomplished as through great effort, skill, perseverance, or courage”. Let’s not pretend it is.

Now, is this a huge deal for me? Not really. I play PvE/PvP/WvW. The daily is very quick for folks like me. I can imagine it’s much more inconvenient for PvE only players though.

Actually don’t know. There has been a lot of data collected on fractal drops but I don’t think any has been collected on the class drop %.

If Anet published a % increase (i.e. 15% higher chance to get class relevant drops) then it should be math you can do with the spreadsheet. I doubt this though because their math has been notoriously wrong, leaving the community members to do their own research.

Long story short, I don’t know but you would have to look for the numbers relating to profession drop % increase.
