People who give me lecture about meleeing Lupi, as such:

  • You have to stand in Lupi’kitten box and not ranging at all.
  • Don’t use swirling wind ever.
  • Don’t walk Lupi off the wall with FGS.
    just right before they fail to do their task.
    and then proceed to:
  • How many times have you melee’d Lupi?
  • Have you killed Lupi in an organized group before?
  • This may be not what you normally do but in our group we… et cetera.
    It surely puts me in an awkward situation not knowing how to answer.

Do you even lupi though?

Help Me: Kill the Gauntlet Pirates

Pull em together and burn them down. I did it on first go but overhyped myself a lot for it with ‘kill order’ and all that extraneous information. I BB them with my guard and just burned them down. I had been targeting the healer but ended up killing 2 other ones before him on accident. Just keep constant pressure on them. They’ve got low health and will just keep dropping.

I didn’t get to play the last time this came out. I apparently missed the massive farming event. I also missed Liadri. That kind of bugged me a bit since most of the folks I did dungeons with all had her.

Well, I was happy to have the chance to do it this time. I farmed the tickets and got mine as well. I just responded to a similar thread earlier today. There is actually a guy upset that the ‘prestige’ of his Fervid Censor is not going to be respected anymore….c’mon guys. Let folks put in the time/effort and get the unique skins.

As for Liadri, she isn’t a give away. If someone can beat her, let them beat her. Why does it bother you so much?

I don’t think it’s a gear check. I think the Gauntlet as a whole makes you really evaluate play-styles and builds on a case by case basis. You should be swapping utilities and weapons pretty often during regular play. You should also be aware of your Traits and how they work with your group. Most players probably don’t do this and say it’s ‘elitist’ or for ‘optimized runs’.

The Gauntlet takes it a step further and makes you check your traits as a solo player. I think it’s great content. And no, it isn’t a gear check. I did Liadri with half green gear/half gold gear so I could equip the runes I wanted for that particular fight.

Item Prestige: Not being respected?

There was nothing prestigious or respectable about LS skins. I got them all by completing grindy, zerg, or braindead content.

As for my Ascended and Legendary gear? I got it all because I probably played more than you. I spent a lot of my time doing dungeons tours and was able to make money easily. Because of that, titles like the Emperor are easy. I wouldn’t say it’s something especially ‘prestigious’.

There is nothing of real prestige in the game, so I strongly disagree with your idea that such items should be gated. Why should a new player not be able to grind for the Molten Gauntlets? Because they happened to not buy the game when I did? Nah….

Should it be a give-away? Nope! They should still have to work for the item…perhaps even harder than we did for it originally. But it shouldn’t be locked off. You got yours? Great! Now step aside and let someone else get theirs.

If your sense of skill/worth is dictated by Living Story gear, you are setting your bar very, very low. There are no skill based items in this game. The time in which it takes you to get an item can be skill based…or it could also be RNG based.

Difficult Gauntlet Achievements

I’m actually working on ‘Blobs, Schmobs’ as well. I didn’t do the pavilion last year but judging by the video it looks like it was a lot different. The adds spawn on the boss instead of on the PC.

I find that when I take my time on it, the boss ends up outhealing. If I go for about 75% and then rush to kill, I end up killing adds. Has anyone come up with a good way to do this?

Yeah, I can see that. A shame. I don’t think their choice to nerf stacking weapons was the right one. It was more unfair for certain classes as well.

Supposedly they did it because they never intended the weapons to be used that way? Which is understandable but I think their policy of silence and lack of interaction makes things like this come out of the blue and really shock people.

Not sure who this did benefit. If it’s any consolation, everyone’s solo times will suffer so we really just shift the bell curve instead of skewing one way or the other.

Eh, I sold my stacking Sigils shortly before the April 15th patch. Then I learned about the underwater weapon stack. Figured it would be a matter of time.

I don’t agree with their decision to nerf stacking weapons but I also didn’t care much for using them post patch. I never did really enjoy swapping weapon sets….still, I can see why some folks would be bothered by it.

That said, who didn’t see this coming? The underwater weapon stacking system was bound to be nerfed as well. It was a clever workaround to something they lazily patched.

Newbie Questions

Hey, everyone.

As the title suggests, I am a new player in need of some insights. There are bound to be some questions you’ve heard a million times before, but I’ve read the stickied threads and did some digging of my own so as to minimize that.

Onwards:

1. Crafting. There are 8 crafting skills and 5 character slots, which means 2 will have to overlap. Any recommendations?

2. Still on crafting. I’ve got Armorsmith and Weaponsmith on my Warrior, but progress seems to be slow. I mine every resource node I see, but the advancement is pretty small compared to the amount of resources I have to expend for crafting something. Am I doing something wrong, or do I really need to mine hundreds of more copper nodes?

3. I thoroughly enjoy soloing quests which I’m not supposed to (a habit I picked up from SWTOR). Which class is the strongest at solo PvE: the Warrior or the Guardian? I mean, of course the Warrior kills stuff faster, but does the Guardian’s tankiness and sustain triumph over the Warrior’s tankiness and sheer damage when fighting a strong enemy with a ridiculous amount of HP?

4. I’ve been told that everything is viable and everyone can play whatever they like and still do well, but that sounds too good to be true. While I do believe anyone can play anything and reach the highest level and do all the PvE stuff, isn’t there some build that is ideal for PvE or PvP on [insert profession here]? Or some weapons whose skillset is better than others for PvE or PvP for [insert profession here]?

5. How do you rate the overall friendliness of the community? I’m used to League of Legends, so I’m not picky, but I wanted to get the overall feel. Do people flame and curse a lot, or are they kind and helpful and loving and caring?

5.5. If people are indeed nice, just out of curiosity, is it a whole different story in PvP? Because I know that’s how SWTOR is. Nicest people I’ve ever met, but PvP turns them into monsters.

6. Guilds. Aside from the bonuses of being in a guild, I would also like to know how… clingy guilds tend to be. That is, how much activity they usually demand. I don’t mind coming along for some quests, and I tend to be active and friendly in guild chat, but I also like to have these things as my choice, and not have them forced. So are guilds generally relaxed and no pressure, or are they run like an army?

7. Feels like the silliest question of them all, but how do I trade items between my own characters?

1. No real reason you have to do certain crafting professions on certain characters. It won’t really matter. I guess just pick 2 that you think work well with your character.

2. You’re not doing anything wrong. Keep farming nodes. Also, salvage gear that you don’t use. It’s tough when you just start the game. Crafting requires a lot of mat and will rarely every pay off. Keep that in mind. You are better off buying your gear or farming it.

3. Warrior is a lot more efficiently ‘tanky’ than a guardian. Guardians are great as a utility class and carry a good amount of DPS as well. Warrior is a much more beginner friendly class to play properly. That said, don’t bother wasting your time gearing to tank. It’s not really a thing in this game. You don’t fight an enemy with high HP by standing there and trading blows. The combat is active and both classes are just as capable of downing the boss.

4. Everything is viable, not everything in optimal. People keep saying DPS is king. This is false and assumes that DPS, Healer, Tank are still a thing. Every class is responsible for their own DPS output, dodging/evasion, and to a degree healing. So, gear for highest damage you are comfortable/able to survive with. With a good group, synergy is the most important thing than individual build and damage.

5. Some people are cool. Some people are kittens.

6. Some guilds are relaxed. Some are not. Just find what you’re looking for.

7. Put them in your bank and any of you characters can retrieve them if they are not soulbound.

He was actually fired RIP R. Hrouda The dungeon team was also scrapped. The living story dungeon was responsible for the TA Aetherpath and the ‘bug fixes’ are being done by just a general team I would imagine.

As of now there is no dedicated dungeon team.

Hehe that sounds pretty fun. I’ve actually been moving towards more solo play these days. Admittedly I am about as slow as I expected to be but it’s much more engaging and fun.

You could turn the solo challenge in a Guild game you know. Each take a group and see who finishes first. Winner gets 5G and loser drinks Everyone is a winner!

Because they play in full cleric gear or something so they don’t need to ever dodge her attacks. They don’t likely notice that they get weakness on them either. They literally do stand there and press 1 without dodging.

I guess they just assume everyone else does the same thing but they somehow ‘exploit’ it faster.

Pvp what am I doing wrong

The thing that really boggles my mind is when I get beat up by like a mesmer, thief, asura, smaller character than myself or lighter armor…even someone wearing a lighter armor skin, bugs me. I like the knight build mace and shield. It would be cool if size and armor counted for more in pvp, like heavy verse light head on they would lose, quickly… I don’t know if its because I don’t have a team or coms.. but I find it unbalanced, most of the time I swing at air because so much evading, I want to just stand there and trade… everyone’s a rabbit or an illusion.

Eh, this post really makes me thing you have no understanding of the basics of the game yet. Let alone just PvP. The game as a whole. I would suggest spending some time familiarizing yourself with it. Now, Asura characters are fun because they are smaller and harder to see their tells, but there isn’t (and shouldn’t) be a marked difference between Race performance.

Guardian is an amazing class for holding points and defending. You have a lot at your disposal to fight on point. Thieves do not. They don’t do well being pressured to stand in one spot and “trade” attacks with you. That’s bad gameplay and that’s why you’re getting smashed. You’re not really understanding the concept of armor types. Heavy means you have more base toughness but don’t expect to stand toe to toe with the DPS that some classes are bringing if you roll as a bunker. Your job isn’t even to kill them. It’s to keep them off point and not capping.

If you have 2-3 people on you and they cannot kill you, you’re doing your job. If you have 1 or 2 people on you and they cannot kill you, you’re doing your job. This means that their team has that many less people to cap and hold. The take away is that standing and fighting just to fight is a surefire way to lose against a coordinated team.

How are you finding it unfair? You’re expecting to be have more DPS absorption (which you do) AND more damage than a squishier player? AND you expect them to just stand there and eat your hits? This really is a learn to play issue here. Again, standing still like that is a horrible, horrible way to play. If thieves are giving you trouble, pay attention to your condis. I bet you anything that they are dropping BP on you and you are not bothering to move outside of it. That’s why you cannot even hit them. Easy prey. I don’t know how you’re fighting Mesmers but I’ve seen many Guards playing the way you describe in random matches.

Yeah no need to destroy in a party. It does help to destroy them if you are not an experienced solo though. I am still most comfortable playing it safe when doing the solo for it so it’s really nice for me.

Hello guys, im wondering which dungeons should i do every day that are fast, easy and rewarding? i know cof p1+p2 and ac p1+p3 are fast easy and rewarding so far, but which others are too?

CoF 2 isn’t that fast though. Neither is AC 3. They’re two of the longest ones in the game because of all the time gating involved. Not sure why they are always referred to as ‘quick’ dungeons.

If you want only the fastest, you want to hit up CM (1/2/3), TA (Frank/Underwood), SE (1/3), CoF 1, AC 1, HoTW1.

CoF2, AC 2/3 will tack time onto your runs. Granted they’re not difficult or anything but they add time. Depending on your experience or your group, CoE 1 is very quick. P2 and 3 are both time gated.

Arah 1 and 2 are both quick as well as very rewarding. Not sure why 3 gives our hobo level rewards but it’s also a quick one to do.

Is there a spot in Dungeon Bingo for people using spider queen or AC as their examples?

Her range attack is not used at melee. Her melee is still used and should still be dodged. If you’re not getting hit, thank your guardian. Her melee will still hit you. You are not invincible in that corner. Try it yourself. Don’t bring a party to carry you. Stack on her, press 1, don’t dodge anything, see how it does.

The TA Knight is bugged at the tree. That isn’t a result of stacking but rather bad AI. AFK ranging frost…or ANY boss is also buggy. I don’t know why PuGs don’t consider THIS tactic an exploit. Maybe because they can actually do this one?

The SE Golems are stacked for because doing it any other way would require killing them each separately. Why do this when you can cleave instead? A stupid complaint. There is nothing making you LOS them either….

The Howling King is not the AC boss in 1 and 3. A lazy reskin though he may be, he is not the same boss in each path. People stack him because they want to melee him. Again….you can do this ANYWHERE in the room. Just because you see some video of a certain LOS spot stack, doesn’t mean it’s some magical winning spot.

Party kick system

A possible solution: The person getting kicked doesn’t leave the dungeon, but instead spawns into a new instance of the dungeon. At the last checkpoint achieved by the group.

From the perspective the person kicked it would be as if the other 4 players left group, and they teleport to the respawn point (If they were engaged in combat with a boss the boss is also reset to 100% health).

Ergo the person kicked wouldn’t lose that much in progression and their time spent. They could at this point just form a new party.

I can think of exploits such as the group getting to the last boss then splinting into different groups to sell the run. I’m not sure this would be a huge problem or what a cure for this would be.

But I think the idea presented here is reasonably fair for the kick-ee.

So you could 5 man, kick everyone, sell ALL the spots across each new group? :P

You’re still not getting it though Grim! I’ll try here one more time :P

Berserker’s is a gear set. It’s not a build. Alone, it means nothing except some stat numbers. Your gear is one small part of a build. That build includes, weapons (because weapons=skills), traits, and utilities as well. Let’s not argue semantics though. That’s a waste of time for us both and doesn’t really say anything of note.

I don’t disagree that condi specs could use some more lovin’ in PvE. Hehe also I kept imagining your debuffer role as a de-debuffer. Probably because so many people come here crying for healers :P We do have condis though that are useful to apply on mobs. I think this serves the same purpose. You don’t need to be spec’d for it and I certainly don’t want to see encounters that REQUIRE these debuffs.

You don’t NEED to run a DPS setup and have Zerker gear. You can do w/e in w/e setup. Requiring a debuffer is not fun for a lot of people (LFG Debuffer to go 4/5).

I played GW1 since launch. That PvX site was filled with as much garbage as it was with reputable builds. It also had no expiration on builds. Again, GW1 had over 1300 skills. Yet maybe 3-5 builds that were commonly run for each class with a little variation in ‘niche situation’ skills. Don’t kid yourself and think that you could run w/e trash you wanted in GW1. Speed clear community in GW1 was just as (if not more) inaccessible to the casual gamer. GW2 is a much more forgiving game, and much more reliant on ACTIVE player skills. GW1 was all about the builds and the rotations.

In GW2 you see players solo champs in Quaggan tonics and with 14/14/etc… setups. In GW1 you DID need certain skills and builds a lot more. Yes you could run a healer monk, prot, or smiter…GL not using certain skills though. “Oh you’re a Necro? MM or SS or Kick… Orders for some things too and you better not run anything else.”

It’s not bad in this game man.

If you’re playing a horrible build, then you’re not competitive. You don’t need to play a certain way but you should be playing to strengths and weaknesses. There are very much ROLES in PvP to fill.

You’re probably losing because you’re looking too much at ‘killing people’ and not enough at winning the match. Your kills =/= your performance. Your personal score =/= being a good team player. How you cap, defend, and occupy your enemies is more important.

I know you probably don’t want to hear this, but you’re probably just bad right now. That’s alright. You started off and maybe you don’t have PvP experience in similar games. Just means you will need to practice. A huge part of winning against other players is learning your class and learning their class too.

You should get to where you can see a certain class with a certain weapon set or passive set skills and be able to make some predictions about their playstyle, role, etc… Really good players keep track of enemy cast times, cool downs, etc… and are able to force people to play into their advantage.

If it’s overwhelming, just play some matches and get to learn what you’re doing. Do some solo-que or hot joins. A lot of really bad, uncoordinated players on there will get your familiar with how some classes play without much risk of getting smashed.

I am sure some very good players are on these forums to advise better than I can. Good luck.

Of course you can do this while you contribute damage as well. What does that mean? It means you need to be paying attention to attacks to dodge, as well as your Party UI to manage the ‘debuffs’… That takes playing at a higher skill level than playing a back-line ‘debuff remover’ or ‘healer’. There is no room in this game for such a passive and useless role.

I run zerker on pretty much all dungeon runs anymore, it isnt exactly hard, its just boring. All zerker all the time… Is there a problem with adding more roles to this “role playing game”? I guess I just wasnt aware that the R in RPG, referred to a single role.

Not sure why you are not able to get this. You don’t play ‘Zerker’. You play a class. You play a role with that class. If you have 4 players each able to cap/stack vuln on a mob, do you all trait for it? No. You don’t. Because it’s a waste of a trait :P That’s smart building. So your role is very dependent on your team. Are you cycling reflects? Are you bringing utilities for pulls? Etc… There are many roles within a team that members sacrifice personal DPS/utility for. The EA Warrior is a great example of this as well.

Condis. and CC also have plenty of uses in both dungeons and fractals if you choose to employ them. None of them require you to gear for them though.

Fractals arent as bad as regular dungeons on this. The problem is if you gear for anything other than a zerker role, you’re usually worse off.

Both make use of CC and condis. Certain group play-styles may not make room for it, but it doesn’t mean you cannot use them in a smart manner. No, they don’t require you gear for them. If you’re looking for something like the Jungle Wurm Husks where you need Condi teams, then no…that isn’t in the dungeons. Would I like to see it? Idk…maybe. It could be cool…but at the same time it would suck to have to spam the LFG looking for ‘need 2 condi necro to go’…it really ruins the way the game is accessible imo.

This game is very play how I want. I can play on my Ele, my Guard, my Warrior, my Thief, etc… Each class has some very cool things it can do. Each weapon set has some specific uses that a clever player can learn or even discover new ones.

Ah, you forgot to add: “so long as it falls under ‘zerker’”.

Berserker isn’t a build. It’s a gear set. There isn’t gear variety in speed clears because those players DO NOT NEED the survivability of Knights, Clerics, w/e else.

I referred “zerker” as a “build type”. zerker is a type / category of build. This context is used all the time… “Zerkers Only” does not mean spec your necromancer for conditions, but wear a berserker set…

Sure, but if we’re going to discuss this, we should be using the right terminology to avoid misunderstandings. There are times when I will alter my build for more options while still maintaining my Berserker’s gear. There are situations where a DPS drop is reasonable to accomplish something else easier.

There is plenty of build variety though. Players swap in and out certain traits for certain encounters pretty often. If you feel like running a different team comp, you shuffle traits around to achieve the same results. The best build variety is seen in team comps. It’s like a 5 man puzzle of traits and utilities. THAT’S what makes this game so fun.

No. It’s like different brands of bottled water… slightly different tastes, but it’s still bottled water.

What would be so wrong about a condition build being able to offer as much as a zerker?

Nothing would be wrong with it. I wish it were as useful in PvE. I have had an idea of ‘tiers’ for condition stacking in PvE. So, similarly to maintaining time/intensity on boons, you could stack condis. to ‘overflow’ into a more powerful condi. (E.g. 25 stacks of bleeding = deep wound for X effect). Of course PvE only no need for more condi. in PvP. I think it would be an interesting mechanic to explore but this doesn’t mean that there isn’t already depth to the system as it is.

GW1 was great with build diversity. Been a long time since ive played, but just a quick search back at PvX

Well, PvX wiki was a place for players to pick up builds that were viable. Many players got one and would NEVER alter to suit the occasion. However, GW1 had over 1300 skills. GW2 doesn’t even come close. Again, ‘Zerker’ is not a build. Berserker’s is a gear set. Out of the skills in GW2, there are many viable ones and many optimal ones for certain situations. If you are one of those players who goes on PvX wiki for a ‘one size fits all build’, and you’re building badly.

You can contribute just fine as a ‘debuffer’ by removing weakness, confusion ,etc…

Not sure what you mean, but I don’t think I swung for anything there. If you’re not cleansing weakness and trying to put out a high spike during it, you’re not doing it right. There is a place for supportive play. It just doesn’t need to be a role of its own. A good player can do both.

You want people to need specific builds ? A debuffer ? You’re asking for the “play how you want” motto to be erased… I’m amazed, because that would force people to sit for an hour waiting for a debuffer to be able to do a smooth run ? A debuffer who’d contribute to nothing apart from “debuffing” ? Stop copy-pasting mechanics from other games and understand how this one works please :/

This is just wrong. My post never said ‘need’. Are you saying you couldn’t complete a dungeon run on a war heavy team w/o vulnerability? Look at it at the other side of the spectrum. What would you do if you were trying to end a “play how you want” motto? Make one build type so good that ppl will be kicked from pugs if they dont have it? that kinda sounds like zerker to me. A system where a debuffer is desired, gives ppl the ability to make a viable contribution as a debuffer. That isnt to say that that the debuffer is required. If you truely want a “play how you want” game 5 debuff focused builds or condition focused builds should be able to do a dungeon clear just as efficiently as a zerker group comp.

You can contribute just fine as a ‘debuffer’ by removing weakness, confusion ,etc… Of course you can do this while you contribute damage as well. What does that mean? It means you need to be paying attention to attacks to dodge, as well as your Party UI to manage the ‘debuffs’… That takes playing at a higher skill level than playing a back-line ‘debuff remover’ or ‘healer’. There is no room in this game for such a passive and useless role.

Condis. and CC also have plenty of uses in both dungeons and fractals if you choose to employ them. None of them require you to gear for them though. If you want to pew pew pew and LB knockback everytime it is off CD, and rack up 20 stacks of Defiance on a mob, then you will enjoy none of those elements. If you want to coordinate CC, then you will actually find that it’s a pretty nice mechanic.

I think GearScore would only add to toxic mindsets and behavior. Making it so that nobody will let me in their lvl 45 exp Dungeon group unless I’m 80 with full ascended berserker.

They still won’t let you in. Now you just won’t get the option to deceive them or waste their time. It would really only hurt players who try to worm their way into skilled groups and be carried.

If you’re a person with some integrity, it shouldn’t really affect you. The people that allow and don’t mind a friendly low lv in their group now, will still allow it then.

Well TA Aether wasn’t well received for a few reasons. I’m put off by the unskippable cut-scenes and the narrative sort of shoved down your throat with it. I’m not a huge fan of what that dungeon represents. It’s a leftover of a very average attempt at a story.

Some of the mechanics of the dungeon can be kind of interested but it is too broken up by puzzles and some attempts at exposition. Now, I realize traditional MMO dungeons are full of puzzles and breaks in combat however it’s not something I really enjoy.

Most people just don’t like it because they find it hard though. And honestly, without experience or TS, it probably is tougher. At least more so than the other dungeons available.

I don’t see why ppl can’t see that if you want to inflict heavy DPS you need maiximum 3 party member for it standing still

You do not understand this game either. Those 3 zerker Warriors were horrible too if they were getting killed by some boss that I can only assume is in CoF, AC, etc… Doesn’t mean you should be tanking lol. No one should be standing still and tanking. #PUGlogic

What a waste of an Ele’s DPS. Should have just swapped to 30/30/0/0/10 and run it without them.
