Because no one really does those events. Hearts are exploration are really a part of the drudgery that anyone grinding for more legendaries needs to endure :P

Back at launch it was more of a thing. Your big goal for now should be to level to 80 and learning to efficiently play your class. Good news for you: the game has been out long enough that there are great guides out to teach your how to play your class! Then you should work on getting your gear maxed.

It’s really up to you what you prefer to do with your time after that. You’ve got dungeons, fractals, WvW, World Bosses, etc… You can of course dabble in a few things although I’ve found that most pick either the PvE or WvW side of the house to specialize in.

Bottom line: Seems like you don’t like doing map completion (hearts, vistas, dynamic events, etc). That’s fine. Not many people do. Soon you will see more people in game because of the megaserver update to merge the maps. Do yourself a favor and just get yourself to 80. Do not suffer through the boring stuff :P

Playing without doing Dungeons

in Players Helping Players

Saint.5647

As someone said, it’s the best way to make money aside from playing the TP. As a note to that, farming dungeons will give you everything you need to also play the TP. You will also have all the raw mats you need to flex for fast market grabs in the TP. You will never need to buy something at an outrageous price because your bank will always, always, always be full of it.

You can rotate between selling salvaged Insignias/Inscriptions from dungeon gear and selling T6 or watching markets and crafting to sell anything with a high enough profit margin.

Simply put, farming dungeons blows champ farming out of the water. Now, the caveat is that you need a high enough level of personal skill and a good enough team to really do dungeons fast enough to make it worth it. Ozmaniandevil cites 7-8G per hour for farming the train. I would say that is fairly accurate. You will make considerably more per hour of dungeons. That said, it is only worth running if you are able to speed clear consistently.

A safe starting point would be to pick a few dungeons to work on, and supplement with champ farming.

make warriors banners/ eles owners only

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

It has just come to your attention? It has always been the case :P

At any rate, no. A Warrior can only carry one banner at a time and excluding the drop, only stomp it one time to stack might. It would be a severe downgrade to the banners to make them for War use only.

As for the Conjures, also no. While I am strongly against ‘Joe Shmoes’ (as you call them) taking a conjure, I also realize that this only really happens consistently in some open world activities where it isn’t such a huge deal. If you run dungeons with Guild & friends, you can make sure to retain your Conjure rights.

Making them Ele only is a severe limitation though. You would effectively cut your group’s DPS for certain segments. Simply put, there are times when NO ONE should be taking your Conjures, and there are times when it is actually best if everyone takes a Conjure….and there are times where a certain class is prioritized a certain conjure. Mesmers and feedback are a good example of a benefit of sharing the LH.

You’re missing all the ‘free’ Gold from salvaging the dungeon skins. With the new wardrobe it’s even better! Now you don’t really even have to chose between more skins and more Inscriptions and Insignias. I have been doing this for a while, and quite successfully at that since the profit does pay for a BLSK.

I discussed it with Ani and he ended up going ham and making this.

This must be a joke.

They only vendor for 4c and don’t go for anything on the TP. Why on earth are these offered as a reward?

If you want a greater reward, earn it. Don’t mistake what you do for a skilled farm. The 5 Slot Bags are offered as a reward because they were/are useful for new players within the LV 1-15 range (that the map is designed for).

Be content that you even get anything for the amount of skill that QD zerging requires.

Some Ideas for legendary armors appearences

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Saint.5647

I’m not sure I feel any way about Legendary armor. That said, while your ideas as cool in theory, they would be an absolute nightmare to play with. Some class effects are already obstructive as it is. I would hate to be trying to see through all the ‘swirling wind auras’, ‘giant shields’, etc…

(A) for effort though. Perhaps subtle effects and truly beautiful skins would be the key to successful Legendary armor. I think a lot of times particle effects are an easy compensation for a mediocre base skin.

Nerf Lyssa?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

It’s not the scaling, but rather the coordination. I will explain.

Mindless boss events with 0 mechanics are zerged down rather quickly. As you know, the bosses scale to the players present. However, Lyssa has some rather fun/interesting mechanics to her. Because of this, many bad players either die/down or are unable to keep DPS uptime. You end up with maybe 40 players present but only about 20 of them actually alive/dealing constant (and acceptable) damage. The boss scales for the 40 players present but there are only really 20 of them contributing.

This can be seen at any boss in the game with mechanics beyond ‘Spam 1’. It is the same reason that bosses like the Assault Knights, Teq, Wurm, etc… caused so much frustration. The smallest need for coordination and understanding of mechanics causes about half the present players to carry the other half.

Example: So, let’s say you have 50 players at an event. The event will scale for the difficulty estimated for 50 players (this isn’t taking DPS gear into account). Now, when 10 of those players are always down/dead, another 10 are not able to do enough damage or keep DPS uptime, and another 5 are lagging too much to contribute, you end up with only 25 players trying to do enough damage 50.

Yes, I know. I did link the descriptions of either. It’s likely that the naming of them is just an oversight by two different teams working on the two different games (so many years apart).

However, it is worth noting that the Leviathans (GW1 Crustacean creatures) are very similar to the modern day GW2 Karka. The Leviathan in the Deep is actually a Wurm. As you said, the name The Leviathan is just a title rather than a species identifier.

Agreed. I’ve been thinking this for some time. The gates dungeons are sort of a relic from when the game first launched. I think at launch Anet had this idea that the open world would always be full of people completing dynamic events. Things didn’t exactly pan out that way and the constantly contested dungeons and Orrian WPs are left behind.

It’s about time to drop the contested points here. Especially with the megaservers coming.

Not much Anet can really do about it. It’s a maturity issue more than anything else. With GW2 being an MMO, you really rub shoulders with players from all walks of life, with different experiences, and in varying stages of maturity.

As an adult it can be quite shocking to run into someone with no grasp on tact and social behavior. This is quite common in young children though, and in game a 13 year old gamer is on an ‘even playing field’ with kitten year old gamer. There is also no requirement to be a mature adult to play either. The type of people that would have difficulty holding a job or staying in school can be found in game as well.

The good news for you is that you can block/ignore these people and that they are a minority in the game. There are many skilled players who don’t mind teaching and raising the skill level of the community.

Subjested boss mechanics, Focused assault

Yeah and they could remove our weapons too! Then we can all just heal each other all the time!

No. Unavoidable damage is not fun, it’s not a mechanic, it’s nothing except cheesy. All of these posts boil down to ‘I want to play a healer class’. There is already damage reduction. It’s called protection and there are already classes that bring this when needed. There is also damage reduction in the form of reflects and blocks. They reduce damage to 0. There is also damage reduction in the form of dodging. You can take ANY combination of classes and be successful in an instance.

If unavoidable damage is introduced, then the need for a healer is also introduced. Then the game is limited and requires a dedicated healer to ‘outheal the ticks’. This is a horrible idea.

There are plenty of trinity MMOs out there. This is not one of them. Anet designed a very unique combat system that I enjoy more than the dated MMOs.

Poorly worded and hostile sounding but I can see the OP’s point. Still, it would help if posts like these didn’t all come from people who ‘AFK range’ bosses to death from safe spots.

If, if mob agro is to be changed, I hope that all safe spots are removed from the game. The trouble is that the ‘no skips, no stacks’ crowd is also the crowd that has never really been in the ‘line of fire’ by mob mechanics.

For as much as they may detest stacking and skipping mobs, it is a solution to the current PvE and AI. The same should not be said for ‘AFK ranging and safespoting’.

I’m about 95% sure he’s joking.

I can’t remember the last time I ever used an elite skill on my Guardian. I just spam skill 1,2,4 and 5 of greatsword while activating the first virtue whenever it is up for the burning and use shouts, reflect and the other virtues to help the team when needed. I find this is more effective than using the elites which take up skill slots. In fact I was thinking of buying the Deluxe upgrade option from the Gem store just so I could use the Wolf summon elite for extra dps on my guardian.

There isn’t much more to it than just ‘avoid getting hit’. Arcane Shield is good to keep on your bar at almost all times for the “Oh kitten ” moments. You’ve also got Earth 5 on S/F and Swirling Winds to lean on if you need. Best advice is just to avoid the damage as well as you can.

Manage your evades too! I struggled with this quite a bit coming from vig. precision on my Guardian to my Ele. You don’t have as many to burn so realize what you need to dodge and what you don’t.

It isn’t nearly as forgiving as a Warrior or Guardian but then again you also do way higher DPS… Keep at it!

Saint.5647

@laharl: I figured it would affect mid tier groups the most. I think organized groups lose the most but for the most part, the same strategies will still be effective. The main difference will be less DMG = more time spent dealing DMG. This will be annoying but not a problem for organized groups.

The ‘quasi meta’ groups on the LFG (e.g. ‘Full zerk 5 war only!’) will be the ones to be affected the most I think. I don’t think these groups will be able to run full Berserker’s gear anymore. These players, while not at optimal DPS right now, will have even less. They are also notorious for being unable to actually play the game beyond trying to copy experienced strategies while missing most of the underlying mechanic. Their low DPS coupled with their inability to adapt and survive encounters will likely break many ‘quasi meta’ groups down into different gear sets.

The low tier DPS PuGs will likely not notice at all 35 minute runs will be 40 minute runs

The LFG tool is in no way optimal. Maybe, maybe you can find a skilled meta player on there. More often than not, you will find quasi meta ‘mimic’ players who lack a true understanding of the mechanics they are copy/pasting from a speed clear video. They are selfishly traited to stay alive and often still lack the skill to rotate their DPS and survive an encounter. I’ve found that these poor players are often the loudest and angriest. While I dislike a low DPS comp. as much as the next guy, if you play with a PuG, expect low DPS and expect to carry or solo a few encounters.

Players who do care about their times and optimal setups do not use the LFG tool.

Unshakable and Defiance ~ The bane of PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Disorganized groups and PuGs don’t understand how “Defiant” works. 15+ Stacks on a boss stand testament to this. Why didn’t they figure it out? shrug Who knows…

That said, the game does a kitten poor job of introducing the mechanic and teaching it to players. I’ve said in another post that the game should use the Hero of Shaemoor (or like) segment as a skippable tutorial, much like the one GW: Nightfall had.

The player should be prompted to CC the boss to remove stacks of “Defiant” in order to [story reason here]. This will show the player how the mechanic works and add another tool to their toolbox. Of course not everyone will use it…some won’t understand/care.

Still, I think the whole issue at hand boils down to education. The posts by the less experienced players in quasi meta LFG groups are often the ones who do not understand CC, who do not understand that DPS is not standalone, who do not understand that stacking isn’t just done because it is in a youtube video, etc. These voices ‘poison the well’ and really twist new players into hating the DPS meta for BS reasons.

Final Note: It isn’t necessary to play or like the DPS meta but if you’re gonna hate, at least understand what it is you’re trying to hate. More often than not, once you try to understand something, you will find that you dislike it a lot less. Lack of understanding is a very powerful fuel for anger/hatred

Why Do We Hate Rangers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Myth: Rangers are Bad
False. Rangers are a very good class. Once the sword auto is fixed (which Anet expressed interest in doing), it will be even more enjoyable to play. We take Rangers into many of the dungeons. It brings a lot in the way of party wide DPS.

Much of the ‘hate’ comes from community experiences with bear bows in Dungeons. Perhaps nothing wrong with open world roaming with a bearbow or leveling with one. There is something wrong with camping range, not providing any benefits to the party and receiving none yourself. There is something wrong with spamming skills on CD just because they are off CD and ruining cleaves by constant knockback.

Now, as far as kicking goes…PuGs are mediocre at best. If they cared much about times, they would be doing Dungeons as a guild. Groups looking for ‘speed runs’ with 4 Wars and 1 Guardian are lol worthy. These are generally the groups that say ‘no rngrs or kick’…and these are the slow as molasses groups that you want to avoid anyways; bad players masquerading as experienced ones.

Thank you for your comments. I tried to do arah path 1, again. I read wiki, watch some videos, to understand how to deal with it. But after another 2,5 hours trying, we cant make it.
There are missing like 3 waypoints. Its really sad how this game works. U can tryhard, u can sweat blood and u get nothing. U lose more golds for repairs than u get. If u already have exotic gear, with stats u need, u dont need to waste hours to clear all other dungeons.

It’s the last dungeon in the game! It’s also the most fun in my opinion and the only one that can still cause problems if people are playing poorly. Ease up and learn the game a bit better. Everyone on this forum has had their backside stomped by Arah (and every other dungeon) before they learned. Has it really come to this? The first thing you do as a new player is complain that the last and hardest dungeon in the game is not instantly steamrollable with a yolo build and PuGs?

This game is noob unfriendly. Lot of mechanics could be better and more satisfying.
If u want be good in this game – pve or pvp. U should know how to play all classes and all specs. (and combos) And since, its quite a lot. U can understand how hard is that for a new player.
It looks like only way to enjoy this game is make a premade with bunch of friends and clear all content together.

Yeah…knowing all the classes inside and out does make you better at this game….and at any game. You’re admittedly new. Just take the time and learn the game better.
