completing dungeon on lvl 80 for 50?

If you are with a group of friends, it’s likely no one will mind you swapping quickly.

Be courteous though and “park” your low level toon outside the dungeon before you start so that no one is waiting on you for long.

Help me get GW2 spirit back

If you don’t find the game fun, don’t play! This isn’t meant to be some rude post but seriously, find something you enjoy. It’s a game and if you don’t enjoy it, don’t play it!

Don’t put your hopes into some game. Get some hobbies and find some joy in life. Then, if you feel hankering to play GW2, come back and play.

I feel like some players treat this game like an aging family member they’re obligated to take care of or some job they can’t quit because of their debts. Life is full of serious kitten. Don’t add one more.

Mesmer or Necromancer?

in Players Helping Players

Saint.5647

I’m going to level up a new character and I was wondering whether it would be a mesmer or necromancer if i’m going to focus on pvp and wvw. I heard that necro sucks in pvp but i recently tried it and i can easily win most 1v1s, while i have trouble with my mesmer which is supposedly the best duelist. Any help is appreciated.

Whoever told you that is wrong. Necro is great in PvP but not a great choice in many ways for PvE.

Loot tagging

I have never actually had this issue. The only time I would get no loot is if I am coming in at the very last sliver of health. I believe the loot eligibility is determined on a threshold of damage dealt. You just need to put in enough damage. If you’re just going to hop as an Ele this is absurdly easy assuming you’re not running completely clownshoes gear.

Drop a few autos, a Lava Font or even a Meteor Shower if you like.

Simple idea to improve world bosses

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I agree on principle but I don’t think any of this will happen unless they take a serious look at open world content. This content is designed with an absurdly low skill ceiling. I believe that a good chuck of the open world denizens could be motivated to play at a higher skills level if pushed but I doubt that Anet will make content to challenge the average player. As a result, the skilled player will have to make their own challenges.

If the new maps are any indication, HoT may be enjoyable but by no means the “challenge” that some are hoping for. One look at Silverwastes and Dry-Top can tell you that.

As long as there is zerg content, there is no individual responsibility to play and think critically. Until players feel personally responsible for their group’s success or failure (as one does in PvE or dungeons), there won’t be engaging world bosses.

Hello all,

That’s a lot of button combos there. I don’t think it supports active gameplay very well. It might work well for running around to zerg things but going through any form of proper rotation with that sounds miserable, unless you’re an octopus.

The bad playerbase

Before you raise such matters as “bad players”, you might want to consider to what kind of audience a game like this caters to. In my opinion, your problem is not “the bad playerbase”, but that you simply picked the wrong game. Learn to deal with it or move on.

This is actually a really good point that I think a lot of folks gloss over. It’s a tough pill to swallow that the game you are playing and even enjoying just isn’t targeted at you.

I’ve kept this in mind for the last 6 months – 1 year and it’s made the game a lot more enjoyable for me. I think others could do the same and find themselves enjoying the game again.

Class Advice

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I’m going to be downloading the client tonight, will probably get to play later this week… But I have a question for you regarding classes…

I enjoy playing tanks in MMOs. Now, from what I understand, this isn’t a standard MMO. But is there a place for a tank?

If there is a need for tanks, does race matter?

And lastly, if there isn’t such a thing, I’d really enjoy playing a DPS type. Any recommendations?

Welcome to Guild Wars 2!

To answer your first question, there is no place for tanks in this game except for bunkering points in PvP. Additionally, Race is irrelevant in anything except your own preference for armors and animations.

You’re in luck! Every class is ideally a DPS class in GW2 for PvE. Now, some classes lean more towards being utility classes like Mesmers and are taken not for their damage, but for the shortcuts they can provide.

Elementalists and Thieves are the heaviest hitters. They will also be more challenging to play that some other classes. Elementalists also specialize in offensively buffing the group and providing AoE damage and offensive support. Thieves specialize in single target as well as providing AoE blinds and stealth support for a party.

Guardians have access to a lot of stability and projectile defense. Additionally, they can support the party with blocks, blinds, and protection. A Guardian would be for you if you enjoy providing heavy defensive party support. Unlike the Elementalist and the Warrior, the Guardian does not increase the party’s overall damage but rather reduces or negates damage taken allowing the party to benefit from their rune bonuses to deal more damage.

Rangers are actually very versatile. Because of their pets, Rangers can play very niche roles in tight situations. Additionally, Rangers bring a bit of everything to the table. They are expected to bring party offensive support through traits and spirits to increase the overall DPS of the party. A skilled Ranger can however be expected to fill needs of the party with their versatile weapon sets. Whether it be projectile reflection, burst DPS, or vulnerability stacking, the Ranger is a good choice for offensive party support with a lot of built in evasion and self-sustainment. It’s worth noting that one of the Ranger’s personal heals provides a water field allowing the entire party to benefit from blasting for health. The ranger is also very capable of combo-ing with this water field themselves through their primary weapon sets.

The Engineer is another very versatile class. It can support the party in a large number of ways BUT requires a lot more leg work than it would on the “native” class that normally provides that support. Engineers can stack might, they can generate and blast stealth for the party, and they can maintain a consistently high level of vulnerability on enemies. It’s a rewarding class to play and honestly one of the most fun but you have to like active gameplay. Good engineers know when to swap in and out of their kits. Between your kits, you are able do anything from immobilizing mobs, blinding, dazing, etc… Engineers can do almost anything but must always remain in a dynamic style of gameplay. Good Engineer players are aware of all these skills and keep their timing in mind to smartly swap between kits.

Warriors are a great class to learn the game on. They are the most forgiving class you can play with a large health pool and a very good class to play on solo. The Warrior has, in my opinion, the easiest access to offensive self buffs without having to learn any particular mechanics. There is no combo blasting needed or kit swapping. With the Warrior, it is literally a button or two. A Warrior can be expected to provide their party with offensive buffs through banners, traits, and if needed, Phalanx Strength. Despite whatever you may hear from uninformed players, Warriors are not a very high damage class however they are the easiest to perform optimal damage rotations on and are the least complicated. For many unskilled groups, the Warriors will perform the best because many of the other classes require some more technique or understanding.

The Mesmer is a relatively slow class without very much personal DPS. It is a powerful utility class however with access to a great deal of projectile denial, reflection damage, and blocks. It is a popular solo class and has access to very niche skills and utilities that make them attractive to parties trying to complete content more efficiently. Mesmers have access to party wide stealth, pulls, and are often called upon to portal a party through shortcuts. Mesmers can also increase party wide DPS with quickness.

The bad playerbase

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Well, to really get at that issue we would have to operationalize the word “casual”. Right off-the-bat two contexts come to mind.

1. Time Based
2. Effort Based

Some players play upwards of 5 hours or more a day. Some play less than 1 hour a week. Which is more or less casual? What about a player who spends 5 hours following world boss trains and hasn’t bothered to learn their class or basic class mechanics? What about a player who has 1 hour a week to play but spends it solo-ing champions or speed running as many dungeons as they can in that hour?

The thing about GW2 is that it can be played at a high level, but unlike some other games, it an also be enjoyed at a very low skill level as well.

Perhaps the better delineation would be between players who enjoy critical thinking and problem solving in their gameplay and players who are just looking for a way to shut down and passively enjoy the game to unwind.

Revenant Ideas – Kingsbane

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Yeah i mean Adelburn only used the foefire to create an unrelenting army of ghosts which the charr are still fighting to this day, totally not worth mentioning i guess. On a side note legends can be viewed greatly in their last moments much like King Jalis who is known for performing the Rite of the Great Dwarf. To answer your question why i designed something that will never happen is simple, i enjoy creating ideas. You might not regard the legend as feasible which is fine, just try to take away some of the core ideas i suggested.

While he created an unending army of ghosts, keep in mind that this army was completely converted against their will, and forced to be enslaved to the foefire for all eternity. The ghosts themselves do not know that they are like this, they still believe they are alive during the war. If they were coherent about it, they would probably all leave and scorn Adelbern, who is in no way Legendary for what he did. He’s just a big selfish, stubborn, blind kitten.

It doesn’t matter if he is a good guy or not. You don’t need to have a beer with him or anything.

Mallyx was a Demon in service to Abbadon and led Margonites against Kormir after Abby’s death. GW1 players went into the DoA to kill him. He was far from a hero and good guy.

Shiro Tagachi betrayed his Emperor and killed him on the Harvest Festival. It took two Canthan champions to put him down and his death turned the Echovald Forests to stone and the Sea to Jade. Mind you, those who lived there were also washed over by this magic.

He didn’t stop there though. As an envoy of souls, Shiro tortured and enslaved the souls of the newly departed to create an army of his own. Not content to remain between life and death, Shiro planned a return to corporeal form. His evil energies actually caused a plague in Cantha as well, resulting in even more death.

He eventually returns to mortal form after spilling Imperial blood….again….and then GW1 players kill him.

So….these Legends are not all good guys. Adelbern is Legendary enough to stand with them imo, but sadly they can’t have the Revenant use that many stances.

Legendary weapons will no longer be legendary

I’m concerned that with precursor crafting, legendary weapons will lose the exclusivity associated with them.

Exclusive you say? Exclusive things are generally not so easily found for sale. Account bound is the best thing to happen to Legendaries.

Less people have Liadri Title than Legendaries. Tying Legendaries to in-game accomplishments is better than any RNG or arbitrary gold-cost to workaround bad RNG.

Zergs out of control?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Anet should have used the chance of April first and removed all aoe target limits for one day.

Zerg free wvw ftw.

This. Remove the AoE cap. That said, the reason they won’t is a technical one, not a gameplay one.

As someone else said, it’s not like they’re “pro zerging.” I think they want to see it go too but they have technical limitations. I would really love to see zergs go too.

In my opinion, they contribute so heavily to low player skill. In a huge zerg a single player has no ability to meaningfully contribute. Their damage is worthless and their attempts to CC cleverly are also worthless. This leaves many players just stacking tank gear and not bothering with good rotations.

Anytime I dare venture back into open world content I see many players get downed instantly by random champs and immediately cry, “Need more at X, Y, Z champ” instead of trying to just figure out the fight with their traits and utilities.

A few things. No one here cares about AP. It’s a pug metric. It has no power here.

Also, I think you mean well but you won’t convince anyone to kill trash mobs. Here’s the thing. It’s always been available as an option. It’s not a hidden feature. If we want to kill mobs, we will kill mobs.

No one here is pushing pugs around either. They’re either a) Not pugging at all or b) Helping pugs out. The people here are not making LFG for “50k AP noscopers only”. Your complaints here are aimed at the wrong people.

Which is actually exactly what I do with movies I’ve seen a bunch of times. I absolutely love V for Vendetta but I rarely feel like watching the whole movie again. I like bits and pieces to watch if I’m eating or doing something else. Same with any movie I like but have watched many times!

Actually a great analogy haha.

We just differ there, which is fine. I LOVE that movie, but I will watch every second and even recite it. I guess it comes down to patience and preference.

I should specify that I have watched V for Vendetta more times than I will ever be able to count. Grandma’s Boy is another.

Yep. That’s fine. Just worth looking at different perspectives here. Sometimes it is nice to re-watch a movie in its entirety. Sometimes I like re-watching certain scenes or checking out a certain shot again without the whole movie. I agree that it comes down to preference and how someone choses to appreciate art/media/etc…

I differ on it being a threshold for patience however. That sort of implies that one must 100% watch something the same way every time. I don’t agree with that. I don’t agree that dungeons must be run the same way each time as well.

It’s available as a way for people to find their own enjoyment in what they do.

Fear climate in dungeons nowadays

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Sometimes it’s not in the description.

Try for example joining a pug Arah p1/2 "speed’ (no such thing in pugs, what they usually mean is stealth run) as a Necromancer or Ranger. Try the same on fractal 50.

The fact is, you’ll likely never get kicked as soon as you join on an ele or warrior, ever.

I think those are the most obvious examples people cringe at. Or they get tired of waiting an extra 5-20 minutes because less people want to join the group with a necromancer, a ranger, a mesmer and a warrior versus the group with a thief, two eles, and warrior/guardian.

It’s really not such a mystery. GW2 is one of the most rage-ish PvE communities relatives to other MMO’s out there. In Wildstar you had people from the leading raiding guild worldwide, Enigma, helping strangers do attunements on their servers to be able to raid. I’ve seen people from Codex, Enigma, many top 5 guilds joining 5 man dungeons, not once a single one of them was sour or sociopathic.

The closest GW2 gets to this kind of community building is likely via WvW guilds.

You’re absolutely right. This community doesn’t give a kitten about anyone. It’s so toxic it hurts.

Take a look at this….yeah, I’m as shocked as you are:
GW2 Dungeon Guide

Yep, these detail every encounter in every dungeon and fractal down to the exact counter for every single mob you will find. You’re right though, these were actually posted online for all to see in order to keep elitist secrets hidden and ensure than Fear Culture will continue to reign supreme for the next 10,000 years.

See, these z3rker elitists knew that hidden knowledge could be placed in plain sight because us common folk are unwilling to read. Knowing this, they discriminated against us by making guides in written format. I know…trust me, I’m as shaken up as you are.

Just take a look at this detailed guide on Dulfy’s site:
Dulfy Fractal Guides

Supposedly it’s quite informative but holy hell those are a lot of words. Apparently she has a bunch of guides on her site but they’re almost all written in words! Luckily some of them have videos though! That’s what I’m talking about. Who wants to go diving through the forums just to find builds…

Speaking of videos, check these ones out:
Nike’s Guides
More Guides

But you’re right Zenith….they’re so kitten long. How am I supposed to watch these things and #1spam-farm open world content. See, these z3rk0rs knew that they were too long for us to watch. They planned it so that no one can ever learn their class or the dungeons. It’s this kitten fear culture. If only more of us knew of their oppressive tactics like we do.

It’s 150% obvious that these elitist scum have no regard for anyone but themselves. Why else would the Dungeon Mentors [Noob] guild be hidden on the first page of this subforum?

These elusive guilds like [Noob] and [ARES] are hiding in plain sight as resources for players who are New to Dungeons and Want to Learn. It’s disgusting I tell ya…

What now z3rk0rz? Zenith and I got ya’ll figured out. You can’t hide behind your
Fractals Tournaments and GW2 Trio Contest. It’s obvious these are just ruses to cover up the secret agenda of the Fear Culture conglomerate that is the dungeon community.

How would you make challenging content?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Underworld GW1

…Bunch of stuff I rambled on about…

Why I sugested UW? Because I liked the team-splitting strategy to complete it and the fact that it was way more punishing than any GW2 dungeon, why? Because if you failed a quest, your party would be wiped and you would be kicked out.

That’s why I pointed it out. No matter how hard you make something, it’s bound to become easy after time and practice. That’s not an excuse to stop making it is it? Like Vargamonth pointed out, I want more challenging content that requires a team to split up into several parts in order to complete it faster, but also keeping that splitting as a not required thing, for casual groups.

Soloing dungeons is one of the best experiences in GW2. Imagine if you got several players soloing several encounters at the same time. The experience can be diversified if players swap around their favorite spot to a new one they havent tried.

Yeah, I agree. Again, I wasn’t trying to kitten on your idea but rather to put some things in perspective.

UW wasn’t always a split party dungeon. It did evolve into it however. I loved running most of the GW1 dungeons, especially DoA. I still do when I find the time and desire to do so.

What about adding in 2 party content?

Something that needs to be done with 2 parties doing 2 disctincly different things in the same instance?

For example. A dungeon with 2 seperate paths, and a party in each path. But party A cannot progress beyond a certain point until party B completes a certain activity (i.e. puzzle, boss, etc.).
So party A has to defend their position until party B completes it’s task. If party B fails, Party A has to do a new task to allow them to continue.

Just a random idea…not sure exactly how it would play out, but it could be fun.

These are all cool ideas for raid content. It has been done and it’s been done well. I would like to see content like this BUT not in the open world. That said, I don’t have kitten for choice in the matter, so open world might have to do.

Like anything else though, it will come down to repetition. Jerus said it earlier as well. Once difficult encounters WILL get reduced to farm-mode, and that’s ok. It just means it’s time to move on.

No content can be challenging forever. New stuff can be hard but after you do it for 3 years…

How would you make challenging content?

Underworld GW1

You mean this UW?

The point isn’t to call you out or anything but rather just to play devil’s advocate. I play a lot of GW1 still and I can tell you a lot of what people say about it is through rose tinted glasses.

Truth is, there are no real challenges in games that cannot be overcome through time and practice. I know it’s not really on the topic of the thread but I hope people keep in mind that content needs to constantly evolve and change with the playerbase in order to stay challenging.

UW, FoW, Deep, Urgoz, even SF used to be really difficult when they first came out. DoA was extremely hard when it first came out as well. They are all on speedmode now and can be done in extremely low times.

The longer people play, the more strategies and synergies are discovered and developed to make runs as fast and efficient as possible. As a result, you get less and less “generic pug” team makeup. GW2 is somewhat unique in that regard.

GW1 has much less room for class variance and “diversity” despite people liking to believe otherwise. There is simply no room for a W/Mo in SCs.

That’s something to keep in mind when designing difficult content.

Fear climate in dungeons nowadays

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

So i just came back to dungeon after like a year… and i realise there’s this perpetual fear climate blanketing all the dungeon runs i did.

everyone is like very afraid of playing and enjoying themselves, instead it’s about yea dps , don’t screw up etc..

people kick people for next to stupid little reasons like failing to jump to the ledge at the start of SE1… wut?

i think anet needs to look at the dungeon climate, it’s not promoting enjoyable play at all.

As many well know, fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

P.S. I’m not just being cheeky. Take a minute and think about it. It’s your choice what sort of “climate” reaction you’re going to have. If you want to be afraid, you’ll be afraid. It’s not surprising you’re having uncomfortable runs when you yourself are on edge the whole time.

Relax, communicate, and check your attitude at the door. Remember, most of the time, you will only find what you bring in.

high AP but don't know game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

How it can be. Player with high AP (i,e, high game activity) but don’t know game?
I suspect only 1 thing – these players buy account from account sellers. I do not respect such things.

I expect that player with +5k AP (maybe less) know everything about game.

Noobies with +10k AP very disappointing.

There are still people that judge player ability by AP? There are so many ways to get AP without doing dungeons, pvp, wvw, etc. Always found it amusing back when I used to play (just came back recently) when people looked for a certain AP level to get into a dungeon group.

AP is a bad measurement but its the only one we have

So instead of basing a judgement about how well a player is using a bad measuring device, why not play with them and see how well they do, then judge them?

The “elite” dungeon community often uses AP as a measuring device to restrict certain “unskilled players” from joining their specific speed run groups. (aka. 5k+ AP or kick.) They feel that this is a measure of how long a person has played, and having such an AP score, they can determine if they are going to be a decent player, in that they at least know their class. But as these people are saying, that you can have a huge amount of AP, but not know a dang thing about dungeons, or have a bunch of different alts so that you are not exactly proficient on any single one of them.

I would personally find it rather amusing if the “grandmaster” dungeoneers, the ones who invented the meta, and discovered the processes used to speed clear the dungeons, were kicked from groups and pre-judged because they had a low AP. But thats just me.

That’s some pretty wild misinformation. I’m disappointed considering that I’ve seen you in the dungeon subform a few times so it’s not like you don’t know it exists. You know that that’s not even close to the mentality of the top dungeon runners.

No skilled dungeon runner there even pretends that AP is a measuring device for speed running. Seems to me you already know this but are trying to spread misinformation to the General Discussion sub.

There’s nothing elite about the AP requirement pug groups. They’re just pug groups. They might be better than people who know nothing about dungeons, but not by much. Clearly not by much if they think AP is a reasonable determinant of skill.

They do actually. A lot of those guys play on alt EU/NA account and DO get kicked for having low AP. They get kicked by random crap pugs. Players who can solo Lupi on a Necro faster than a pug can finish it normally can get kicked for playing a Necro.

Just wanted to put this out here because posts like yours are a big part of why there is so much distrust between these gaming communities. I hope that’s not what you were doing but it sure seems like it to me. Let’s not stir the pot up for the sake of controversy.

Kind of torn on how quickly everyone jumped down his/her/idk… throat about this. Let’s not get so caught up on the usual malcontents trolling in from General Discussion to stir up kitten.

I don’t think these guys came in here swinging their peters saying that this is how dungeons were meant to be run. Seems like they just did it for fun. All things considered, it’s probably better than a lot of the pug runs out there.

Ohlette, it’s viable. It’s not necessary but it’s viable and for what it’s worth ya’ll didn’t do a bad job of it. Seems like you guys also understand it’s not the optimal way either so I wouldn’t take anything too personally. I think folks around here are a little too used to posts like this being made in a very accusatory and angry fashion.

Frankly, I don’t think dedicated class roles have any place in the game’s current state. Can’t say what the future holds but as it stands, the skill is often found in how well a player can adapt and play multiple roles at once. Currently, this can 100% be done in offensive setups. Since support is largely untied to any supportive stats, there is very little benefit to be gained from spec. into it.

Other styles certainly are viable! I agree with that. That said, your video also clearly shows what it does to your team net DPS since the all-time record is under 3 minutes and yours is over 8.

Blaming the healer for the extra 5 minutes in the run without including the multiple pit stops they had setting up Pug strats or the fact that they did almost nothing to reduce travel time.

You are aware that as a forum specialist you’re suppose to be neutral right?

As a GW1 player; What I found missing.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Indeed. The focus in GW2 is much more kinetic. Many seem to forget that while GW1 had a greater variety of skills, a majority of these were not widely useful or niche at best. Simply put, there were some builds that simply did not work.

In GW2 you can run some very atrocious set ups and still succeed. Check out some naked Lupi solos or full Bearbow joke videos. It’s possible because gear plays second fiddle to player skill. This wasn’t the case in GW1 for a good portion of the elite content.

I liked that game a lot as well. It’s not that GW2 doesn’t have its faults but I don’t think it needs more useless skills. Meaningful additions in small amounts are better than a mass of trash updates.

In regards to energy management, it doesn’t transition in exactly the same form but different classes have similar mechanics to keep in mind. Managing adrenaline, initiative, attunement cooldowns, etc.. all have some passive and active benefits to them that change depending on the build and style of play.

It’s not as right in your face as if was in GW1 but they do play a large role. Again, since the game isn’t build reliant, you might not notice that you’re doing less DPS on your thief with under 6 init. but paying attention to this does change the way you play.

Making Players Feel Stupid is Bad Business

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sigh I grew up playing games where playing was the reward. You played the game to beat it and if you wanted to, you could collect 100% or beat the game with a high ranking. You didn’t get achievements, you didn’t get points, you didn’t get anything except the satisfaction of having done so.

How does this tie in? Let me be clear. Nothing is locked by those weapon collections. No one made you do it. If you are a player who values 100% item unlocks, then that feature is for you. If you’re not, then stay away from it.

I have friends that collect every single mini-pet. I couldn’t care less. I buy the ones I like only. These collections, much like all the achievements in this game, are optional.

The bottom line is that you shouldn’t do things you hate for some AP or a completion. If you hate collecting items, don’t collect them just because it’s available. It likely isn’t there for you.

Sorry for the ranty post but seems like so many posts come from the perspective of “X sucks because I don’t enjoy doing it.” Not all content is enjoyable for all players and that’s ok. It’s crazy that people suffer through the festival content just for the AP. Some players enjoy it and that’s cool. If you don’t enjoy it, don’t play it….

Asura Thief

My Guardian is actually one I have not seen a similar look for before I posted. He’s themed in a “post apocalyptic” scheme. The idea was to mix worn and old looking armor pieces with newer and more futuristic looking pieces to create the effect that these pieces were found or upgraded over time.

The issue is that this community is very welcoming to anyone who genuinely wants to be a part of it. Really, take a look back through the threads on this subforum. This is one of the most cynical but helpful communities in the game. Anyone who has come here with a genuine desire to better themselves or learn has walked away with solid input from good players.

You can’t even say that the people here exclude anyone because it is only the players that frequent this subforum that publish guides, run teaching guilds, and host community runs for new players.

It certainly isn’t that 5 Warrior CoF buffoon who came in here to make a fool of himself before tucking tail and running. No, it’s people just like that that come in and spit in the face of this community who get exactly what they deserve.

Just look at it objectively. This is a community that gets very little attention from the devs. It’s a tight knit group of people that I will grant has grown very sarcastic and cynical. This can be intimidating but look beyond this as the actual help they provide.

Look at this new posts every week of some moron coming to to make some outrageous claims or complain. These fools come here bringing wild accusations and all but calling the people here monsters and terrible people. These are the people that are not welcome.

tl;dr – Come here with a serious question? You will get some of the best community support in the game. Come here with baseless accusations and name calling? Eat kitten and leave.

New defiance in dungeons comming with HoT

It’s gonna be terrible.

I mean, if aegis can block boss attacks why can’t blind affect bosses.

I understand blind is more spammable for a class like thief or guardian but a necromancer has a long enough cd to justify it, so maybe they should just nerf the ability of thieves to spam blind and guardian leaps so blind can work on bosses.

What’s the point of condition builds if conditions are just straight out inferior versions of boons.

Are you dumb?

Frankly, I would rather have an eager noob in my party with yellow gear who is curious about mechanics and willing to learn than a moronic nub in exotic tank gear with 20k AP who still doesn’t know what defiance is

^this. I completely agree but the problem is pug leaders dont give new players the chance to learn. Im only going off of experience, as im a newer player myself. Even watching youtube, researching on the internet and reading wiki and dulfy to learn dungeons doesnt mean jack to veteran pug leaders. I have been playing for 1 solid month and i have almost 900 APs and im in full CoF zerker gear, including accesories and an ascended trinket. As being an ex-hardcore WoW raider, i find the only challenging thing to do in this game is run exp dungeons and i have including arah and fractals but there is no way for a pug leader to know that so they go off what your AP says and oh sorry you dont have enough / AP is not high enough you dont know what youre doing, kicked*

Remember that one time a group of pugs set a speed clear record? Or that one time some random kitten in a pug

They didn’t. That’s because a “veteran pug” sucks. They’re bad because they have a very limited understanding of the game, they’re narrow minded, and they’re afraid to try new things.

They have watched a couple of videos online and copy paste months old strategies from more skilled players. They don’t communicate and they cheezmode anytime they can (e.g. Lupi Wallspoit, afk ranging bosses from safespots, etc…)

From what you’ve said, I don’t think you’re going to have an issue as a player. That’s not to say that I disagree with kicking players. I think a “party leader” should have a choice on who is allowed in or not.

I’m gonna give you some unsolicited advice here. You’re already reading guides and working on gearing yourself properly. Keep doing that and just get good on your own accord. You don’t need approval from some kitten scrub who thinks his 20k AP from farming Living Story equates with skill.

Some of the best players I know are in the 2000-9000 AP range. Why? Because AP is a measure of how much time you put into the game. So, just let it roll off your back and keep practicing!

You can either come to the forums to whine about getting kicked or you can practice more, learn to solo, learn to low man, find a solid group of friends to train with, etc… Again, last bit of unsolicited advice (and I don’t mean to presume your age or life experience so take this with a grain of salt) but there are very few people who really give a kitten about you.

No one cares that you got kicked and they care even less that you’re complaining about it. Does it suck, yeah. Happens to all of us at some point or another. Just shrug it off and move on to the next one. Got kicked by some open world hero? Their loss. Keep practicing, keep playing, and focus on your skills. You won’t regret that.

You could have it set by total item rarity checks. Such as having 6 out 15 exotics in slot as minimum or something as an example or basically just X amount of exotics equipped with pug leaders choice that way if you dont meet the threshold you wont even be allowed to join.

Wouldn’t hurt but also doubt this would help. The game is 2 years old. Exotics are dirt cheap and the issue isn’t with the gear itself. The issue is that a large portion of the community has not learned how to play in a team oriented way and doesn’t care to.

Filters help, yes but you can’t filter out “Refuses to blast smoke fields” or “Uses Empower on CD”. Simply put, there is a larger issue with bad play and static playstyle than with gear choice.

Frankly, I would rather have an eager noob in my party with yellow gear who is curious about mechanics and willing to learn than a moronic nub in exotic tank gear with 20k AP who still doesn’t know what defiance is.

It won’t really change things much for the day-to-day. You’ll get the surge in supportive tank attempts and the subsequent crying on the forums when they realize that Taunt is reverse Fear.

It’s not like Taunt will be automatic or anything so it will likely skill cost a utility slot. At best, it will have niche uses like the occasional Fear Me or may replace Scorpion Wire for some niche pulling.

I still see this shaking things up much more in PvP than it ever could in GW2 PvE Vanilla. Seems to me a lot of these changes are temporary hard counters in PvP.

Oh and yes I thought the same thing, a class made to push their e-sports agenda?
Possible. Looking forward to more info on this class,
fingers crossed for a power/precision based ‘legendary’ skill set.

Maybe not the class as a whole but the new boons and effects just seem niche in PvE at best while perhaps game changing in PvP.

Oh yeah, I hope so too. I would be shocked if there wasn’t.

Nothing has seemed very ground breaking about any of it though. Actually seems more like these changes will have a lot more impact in PvP.

Well people advocate things like perplexity builds in pve on classes which have no confusion and barely any interrupts. Builds dont have to make sense in the gametype for people to advocate them for roleplaying reasons. So yeah im calling it even if the taunt access is inconsequential and really low duration.

Also we kind of do know how defiance works. If you go watch the stronghold preview stream you can see how “fear me” interacts with the new defiance bar against the lord. It looks like a very pug friendly system. Basically when a CC is used it removes a portion of the bar but it immediately starts regening. So it will require a bit of coordination so multiple CC’s are needed. We dont know about what happens after a successful CC though. If theres no cooldown i could see stunlocking on bosses becoming a thing.

Oh interesting. I didn’t see that stream but was curious about the new defiance bar. I don’t know that it seems more “pug friendly” though. I think the number of stacks displayed is the most friendly option out there.

Adding a bar would be on par with pug groups trying to de-cap TTWurm heads at the same time. There just isn’t the communication to stack skills in unison in pugs. A little disappointed that they went with this change. It seems more friendly in an easy to see UI sense but as far as execution goes, I think it will still be something foreign to the average player.

Regardless, in game, dungeons tend to get negative more often than in other games.

Honestly man, GW1 was much more exclusive. You had to ping skills before dungeons and fit an exact role. GW2 lets you join whatever group with whatever build. It isn’t perfect but let’s not say it’s worse than any other games. In fact, after both WoW and GW1, I think GW2’s system is the most forgiving I’ve played.

Something about something brings out more negative dungeon runs for the non proffesional dungeon player in this game than in other games.

I dont think this is actually a good thing for dungeon gameplay as a whole, i think that the more people who enjoy and play dungeons, the more likely they are to get better/more development. While its fine to have elite groups and special teams, the basic regular dungeon politics shouldnt feel unapproachable

I agree. They shouldn’t feel unapproachable. That’s the RNG of MMOs though. Some people are kittens, others are nice, some people had a rough day at work, some people are feeling extra helpful, etc…

It depends who you get in a PuG. You talk about every 4 runs or something you run into a jerk. Take a look around man. That’s daily life. Some people are rude.

Glad you reconsidered the broad brush painting of the whole community. Most of the good players I know are very helpful and most of the great ones are the ones posting solo videos and guides on a weekly basis.

There are guilds and posts dedicated to helping new players to their feet in dungeons. These are the things worth taking into consideration. Most players I’ve ever been around have been goons who ran AC and CoF and think they know a kitten thing about the game’s mechanics. They’re pretty bad themselves so they rage. Good players don’t care if you suck. They’ll just run ahead and carry (probably poking a bit of fun in TS but still willing to be friendly and helpful).

Phys, the people you’re coming here to lambast are not the ones you’re likely having these bad issues with. Thing is, most of the folks here run with friends and Guilds. If they run with PuGs they are just trying to finish a path at an odd time of day or something.

The people here are not the ones saying “50k AP” or whatever arbitrary check is in place for groups now.

Don’t throw stones at an entire community for this. Some of these people pour hours into theorycrafting builds, publishing up to date guides on every single dungeon and class in this game. They don’t do this for their benefit alone. These are the same people who already are holding records for this content.

They don’t need you to follow them. They don’t need you in their groups and chances are, you won’t ever run into them on the LFG. They put this stuff out for the community. That’s why it’s pretty kittenty of you to come in here guns a blazing.

Necro needs more useful group utility. So many “dark assassin” “death knight” “evil warrior” concepts that seem to have crawled out of some fan fic notebook out there. Necro doesn’t need any silly gimmicks or cliche names, it needs to be brought up to par as a useful class with utility in a group.

DPS wise, Necro isn’t actually bad individually.

Legendarys Easier? what?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Despite the conflicting voices here, I think most folks on this thread are saying the same thing.

There needs to be a more skill based way to get Legendaries. Plain and simple. I think there is an overall consensus that Legendary acquisition, as it stands now, is not mechanically (i.e. requiring mastery of the game) difficult but realistically difficult (i.e. time management) for IRL reasons.

Despite my daily prayers to RNGesus, I was never blessed with a Precursor to call my very own. Instead, I had to buy ever precursor I needed from the TP. I could do this because I spent a few evenings a night doing Dungeon tours with a very efficient group of people. I did this because I don’t need to be at work until 9 or 10 in the morning and my commute is less than 15 minutes on a bad day.

Not everyone is in the same boat. I can understand that people would buy their Legendaries with Cash/Gems. I don’t think this is because they’re so difficult. Nothing about Legendaries was mechanically hard for me. I think it’s because they don’t have the time to pour into farming gold….and let’s be honest….there is a lot of gold that needs to be farmed.

I am absolutely in support of their being a genuinely challenging method to acquiring precursor weapons without a tedious amount of grind. However I don’t think this will happen. Why?

1One needs to look no further than Liadri. There are many players who are either unskilled or unmotivated to genuinely rise to a challenge. I remember many complaint threads about nerfing Liadri so that “everyone could get the achievements and titles.”

That’s not how achievements, titles, or Legendaries ought to work. Simply put, they have to be either mechanically difficult or difficult in the sense that they require a lot of time invested. Anet opted for time invested by means of gold. This is understandably unpopular. I don’t think they will have much luck with mechanical difficulty.

There are a lot of really bad players and sore losers who don’t want to be better players.

^ This. There are atrocious players with legendaries. Getting them isn’t hard:

1. Gold grind to buy
2. RNG success
3. Credit card hero

I don’t really mind one way or another. I do a lot of farming and bought my precursors before they spiked in price. I don’t think Legendaries are difficult to obtain. When dealing with RNG, time is the limiting factor.

I support making them genuinely more challenging in the way of a skill based challenge. Everyone can’t have everything though. They just can’t. People complained about not being able to get Liadri’s mini or the title. Well, the only way to get it is to beat her. If you can’t beat her, you can’t get the mini. Should be same for the legendaries.

Troll kicks solution.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Giving leader special powers and protection puts uneven protection on the people participating in the group.

The problem with a ‘leader’ situation is it assumes that the group leader is more trustworthy, or at least has more right to the instance than the rest of the group. Neither of those are terribly reasonable assumptions to make.

Eh, I don’t agree with that.

In a perfect world, sure it would be uneven but parties are already uneven. Look, in a straight up PuG group where no-one knows each other, the likelihood of being kicked is low and if someone does get kicked it’s skill related, class related, AP related, etc…

The troll kicks we’re talking about come into play when we deal with players who know each other. If you’re in a party with friends or guild mates, the balance of power is already skewed your way (or against you if you’re the minority party). If you join a group with 2 people from another guild, your vote essentially means nothing because the two of them can kick anyone with 0 consesus from the group.

Yes, you can have crappy party leaders. Guild Wars 1 worked like that and lord did we have some crappy party leaders. That said, we also had good ones and a lot of decent ones. Most folks kept the order and generally people who joined the party would toe the line and play ball with the party’s rules.

Again, the balance of power in GW parties are an illusion. Your vote doesn’t always carry the same weight. In a party with two affiliated members, your vote is essentially meaningless.

Generally, the first map is almost always entirely full of first time first serve TTS members all on TS.

The second map is generally just as successful as the first though. It needs members to flood the TS first and then players will recruit for the map. Yes, you do get trickle in and I agree that it’s a good way to force pugs to learn.

TTS does a great thing because at the start of each “raid” they spend 10 minutes or so going through all the phases and making people move around in rehearsal. In my opinion, this one of the reasons they are as successful as they are.

They do this by having essentially TTS maps. I don’t think you would ever see something like this in SW for example. Can you imagine the response to, “Hey guys let’s practice Gold/Silver and getting out of their dual AoE.” The reason I would like locked instances is because I don’t think people would get locked out. TTS invites people with no criteria and kicks members for inactivity.

The only requirement is to listen and participate. That’s the only thing it takes to beat anything in GW2 open world raiding. Locking instances to groups wouldn’t alienate pugs anymore than they already are.

And I get what you mean Jerus, Back before the schedule stuff, it was fun going into Harathi and finding it fully controlled by centaurs, starting alone, or with 1 or 2 others, and running it all the way back, picking up allies as you went.

That’s actually been a gripe of mine with open world content. It sounds a bit silly but I don’t really want to see many others players around. Anet’s “happy to see other players” stance is nice in theory but for me it has never played out to be enjoyable. Anytime I find a champion or event to solo or that I’m enjoying a zerg of players comes to ruin the fun.

I still vividly recall a time when I was leveling a new toon in timberline and fighting a Wurm champ when a random thief joined in at about 30% boss health. Within seconds he got himself downed and proclaimed to the whole map, “We need help at X Waypoint with Champ!!” This kind of annoyed me because “we” didn’t need help at all. I was playing and having a good time! Just like that, in came the zerg and the fun was ruined for me.

The encounter goes from managing endurance and defensive skills in order to kill a champ to sighing as 15 players come and zerg it down. Once that happens, I’m also reduced to spamming 11111111 as well. Not much else to do at that point. It cheapens the gameplay for me and I’m by no means remotely as into the mechanics as some of the guys posting on on here. That’s something that I think General GW Forum posters should understand a bit.

he custom instances… I’m still just not sure, you might well be right, although if they do it it’ll be part of the guild hall functionality, but I’m just cynical about the use it will get.

— which, I have to admit could well be fine. It doesn’t hurt me if there’s a feature that only .00001% of the game population uses, unless that hurts the texture and flavor of the live world versions of the fights.

Don’t forget, Triple Headed Wurm has never been completed by a PuG map. As far as I know, it has never come close. That is the closest thing that this game has to a hardcore raid.

You might be thinking, “But it gets completed almost daily in open world.” It does but it gets completed by dedicated guilds and groups who hop maps in order to organize. While there is no such thing as official instanced raids, that’s essentially how it’s being done.

I think instanced raids are the way to go. It’s a great way to let like minded players to play together.
