I’m a PvE player, although I aslo main engi and have ranger as my sub ( 2nd ) class. I find the differance between the two classes refreshing and really enjoyable. When I get bored of engi and want something different I feel ranger covers it for me.

I can understand taking Wilderness Survival for more survivalbility; although, I don’t understand why you would take Strider’s Defense for a minuscule recharge on sword skills over Spotter, one of our few group utilities.

Personal preferance. I find when I am going toe to toe with mossmand and achi, those few seconds really count.

I have done afew PuGs on my ranger and haven’t been kicked yet. I’m very stubon though and mostly stick to sword/dagger for the whole lvl50 fractal. ( even if it’s impractical )

The only place I can see long bow is the last time you fight achi on cliffside. Basicly you use the Long bow 5 skill as ele’s use meteor for that " free damage "
For example: after the group kills all the chanters, cast barrage ( long bow 5 ) on archi and then the hammer wielder swings and the arrows will still come down on him while everyone is stuned.

As for snowlind, you want to keep the fight a 5v1 as much as possable. So after the bizzard, you want to group up as a team and kill any agro’d ice elementals. Don’t forget to run around the outside of the hunts so you can aviod as much agro as you can as you make your way back to regroup.

Please don’t be scaried about the fractal trails ( or any trials); They aren’t meant to be hard. We are just making sure you know your stuff and are able to teach to others. We need to know you would be fine on your own teaching and would be able to answer questions your students have like why do things like this. I would like to think all mentors and students remember that there is multiple ways to both teach and learn and that word of mouth plays a huge part here for our mentors rep.

If anyone needs help/tips on mentoring I will try my best to help. If any real life teachers have any tips or anything that would help, we would love to hear from you as well! All information would help greatly us.

Last night, my fotm 40 exploded with an engi who argued with my friend and I. He had never picked up the hammer during Cliffside and stated that he needed “kit swap to survive”. So when we pointed it out how the group was just basically pushing the task to only two guys to repetitively pick up the hammer and pull, he defended himself with how he has practically “carried” the group with superior DPS and constant healing with his water field. And how we should be ashamed to bring the two useless classes, ranger and necro, to our advertised “experienced zerker” group. The guy is an disillusioned sad joke that was spoonfed by metabattles and DnT guides. Haiz…

At least your friend helped, in my party 3 rushed far ahead, the 4th went past by me when I asked him to pick the hammer cos my stacks were high. I asked some of them to come back for the hammer…. silence.. they kept running and stacked at the next seal so nicely.

I would of left the hammer were it was and rushed up to the others. See how long it takes them to pick it up.

In terms of the hammer, yes I pick it up too although recently I should pick it up more on the last fight with achi. My reasoning is casting acid bomb and orbital strike before the hammer swing like the ele’s do with meteor. And yes I know there is enough time to carry the hammer, cast orbital strike and then swing for the effect I was after

Pretty sure the old leaders have gotten burnt out and have stepped down. Though both are great people and have always been willing to help those who actually want it. Mentoring is… well, it’s draining. Getting a group of people who actually eat up what you put out is awesome, it’s great, nothing draining about that to me, but that’s a rarity. More often you get those just wanting you to carry them through some content, or that argue with you because what you suggest isn’t what they read somewhere or saw in a speed run. And, of course those that just can’t “get it” where half way through you’re both thinking “kitten , this just isn’t working.”

It’s a lot of work.

I wish I still had the energy. I made some friends that came into teaching runs with me, or that I was leading, but I just don’t have that kind of motivation anymore. I wish the new guys luck. There’s nothing wrong with a passing of the guard.

Yeah I share the same opinion and sentiment. I was a mentor too, after all. It just became too hard to push myself to do it. Three years with the same stuff doesn’t help at all.

I just hope the new guys are as knowledgeable as the previous mentors, we don’t want to see a lowering of standards do we?

You dont have to bother about EU dungeon/fotm trials, we’re not sure about NA though, but Quaggan will help trial them on NA and we trust him. I will trial arah mentors so you can be sure they will be good.

I tell people to save all the + 1 agony resistance they get. You will need 504 of them to make a + 10 agony resistance ( combining them together through crafting )
If you still are keen for fractals when you reach lvl 40 + then you can throw your + 10 into on of your slot’s or you could sell it for gold if you wish.

2 things on this, 1 it’s 512 infusions… >.< but the main thing being that it currently costs more to make the +10 than it is to sell/buy it. (63.8064g vs 59.9975g atm of typing this)(plus you lose 10% of all gold when selling on the tp so you get 53.9976g after tax)

I hope, they will never do a solo fractal. i don’t see a good point doing this. it only favoris single playstyle. What is not the goal of this game.

The goal of this game was to cater to all gamers that enjoy mmo’s not meta end gamers actually.
The mmo’s are for group end game argument is just a joke. I enjoy playing mmo’s with others for lots of reason but when I want to do something end game I don’t want to be tied to a group of meta runners or looking for one just to achieve something at end game.
The only people End game group contents truly supports are the people the friendly side of the community don’t like because you got to cast this 3 secs into a fight and then swap to that 2,4,2,3,3 blah blah or you get booted from group and called a noob, I mean wtf man.
I’ve been playing Guild wars for at least 6 years and remember seeing this first advertised and how Anet posted they wanted to add all the things gamers love and get rig of the players fighting over drops or nodes etc. I live in New Zealand and other than ping being rubbish half the time our peak times are not the same as other larger country’s so obviously its harder to get groups together.

I cant see why having solo end game is something people have to oppose because its still drops earned by playing the game and gives people and extra option instead of looking for groups then rage quitting because you either cant find one or everyone just didn’t know what they were doing and couldn’t complete the chosen path.
Its just like everything else in game, You do it so much and it gets boring so its not like its going to hurt groups for dungeons and fractals.

Ps I’m not looking for feedback from those trolls who have gaming groups they’ve been meta battling different games for the last 10 years, I want to hear from normal Guild Wars supporters thanks.

I’m also from new zealand, and used to hop on from about 18:30 onwards, it’s not hard to find PuG groups depending on how relaxed you are ( even from both sides of the fence )

I know nothing about you so I can’t judge. For me, I’ve been able to find lot’s of aus friends and even some from over sea’s. And sure, we don’t get much play time with everyone although that’s the nature of timezones :<

The friends from aus, I have found to be about a hour behind me so playing together has been easy, while friends from america and/or neverthlands being about 12hrs apart we get like 1-2 fractal runs.

I’m in favour of keeping fractals group content please.

Since we are using other games as examples, soul calibur characters have like 8-10 optimal moves out of there whole movelist. Having a small group of optimal stuff in any game isn’t new so I don’t see what’s wrong with our meta

Engi: overpowered shot

I would prefer Net Shot to Overcharged Shot. Both have their uses and I love them dearly. But Net Shot is truly underrated in PvP. Then I also love Slick Shoes for its ridiculously long CC duration. Using them against the Golems in Aetherblade fractal or against the Kitty Golems are so much fun! And not forget about our Elixir elite <3

Sorry, I know I make empty promises about doing stuff after work although things have been crazy at work. :X I’ll do some homework tonite and get a path going for work.

What I would like to do is to chat to all the teachers/mentors ( current and those wishing to be ) and see if you’ve still keen in mentoring and maybe even get to know you alittle better. It will make it easier for me to pass people on to you. I believe work of mouth will be the biggest test for our teachers and that’s how recomendations will come ( and of course the more popular dungeons will also see more traffic naturaly ).

O.o that was alot of reading to catch up on this thread.

If we are using other games as example I would say
" stacking " is the same as " spaming " in fighting games.

People make personal anti house rules against these things and then call cheat on those who continue to do it :/

In this gane there are um.. lfg guilds out there with like minded people doing their thing. I do and don’t want to use the word quite for these group/guilds. Guilds that like skiping/watching/selling/certian fractal lvl/ content and don’t want to use the lfg anymore and a whole lot more.

What I’m trying yo say is maybe we need a big list somewhere of all the guilds like this, mentor ones and so forth so people don’t feel lost and people like you and me and OP friends can find a home? Not sure if thats the right word, although hopefully you know what I mean.

Then again… I know that saying:

There is two types of people in this world, those who put people into two groups and those who don’t :/

Meh, If you like these styles look at these group/guilds and if you like these styles look here..

It’s just meta guilds are more media present atm that’s all

Even if anet added more big, slow, unblockable moves. I get the sinking feeling that even backsteping or turning around and running out of range of those attacks would become the new stacking and would get the same hate.

I would also love to see anet throw some of our strategies back at us. Give some npc the old FGS and the icebow ( let us stack ). Maybe even some of the (s)pvp / WvW strategies like the cele engi/ele’s and what not that were once dominant.

Video games run by frames, in every game there are attacks with slower recovery frames than others. In this game the sword atuo is one of them. And tbh its only the third chain aswell, so you only need to delay or stop the chain.

If it makes you guys feel better, I do fractals often, lvl50 and so on and play sword/dager ~ axe mostly

Ps: Heimskarl Ashfiend, I find your suggestion interesting, and I like it. It doesn’t change the sword atuo atack and makes sense

The exact same amount of eles spawns every 25% hp. So yes you can get 3 eles perfectly stacked inside each other.

The common old strat was to run round the outside to a bonfire marked on your minimap to avoid aggro. Then only aggro the elementals close to that. So you only ever kill 1 or 2 elementals each wave. Sometimes people spawn right next to them which causes annoying aggro though.

=) I wouldn’t call it old, it’s the strategy I use and teach with the reason of keeping it a 5v1 fight as long as possable. I’m alittle worried now cause I’ve always used this strategy because well.. it makes sense and it is my normal. U’know " how everyone does it "
So this is an eye opener, will be interesting to see the other strategies and even try make/test them and others out.

No not every blocks/reflect them. Some prefer to cheese it with the save spot.
Did you know you don’t even need reflects for the tornado trap? you can put the core in the middle between you and the tornado’s and you’ll be also safe.

I agree with the " Invisible Fire Zones during Molten Duo " although I didn’t mention anything else as they seem to be only working on this fractal for now.

I believe it depends how far into the meta you go. People seem to be more upset with the armor rather than uaing active defence or some strategies

Although I hate the extreme meta ( Icebow chaining till death on anything ) I really like the meta and the science behind it all.

Ive been able to apply things I learnt from other games:
- Spacing, positioning
- chaining stuff together ( not overlapping reflects )
So Ive really enjoyed gw because of this
( this is my first mmo )

At first it was a shock to read my nades wont be 1500 range, although the idea that the impack aoe is gona be increased did take my notice. During my fractal runs, how I combat enemies with reflect is to aim for the ground near them and the explosion would still hurt them so it wouldnt matter. With this change, I would be able to do this with even more ease.

I was also talking to a friend it seems tonics are a rangers best friend because your pet is hinded during the trasformation. However I find it very odd how much extra work rangers have to do ( Im gona say as much as the ele/engi piano play ) just to keep your pet out from agro’ing stuff and keeping the run smooth.

If you take a look at snowblind, your pet doesnt tp with you during a bizzard so if you got your pet attking the boss it will stay there and either risk agro’ing some ice elementals when you try return him or could phase the boss again. Youll need to swap after the bizzard or have your bag menu open and tonic up.

Oh yes! As you guys said, having a passive pet was ok and I was able to help light the bombfire while stealth instead of just watching ^^

First off, I would like to think of myself as a fractal veteran who knows deeply about the fractal fights and bla, bla.. .anyway I am going through a ranger phase atm and is loving the class and all its stuff! I need help with some ranger stuff so thats why Im here Please.

When we are fighting mai, positioning is key and all is well untill horrick releases the canons: Is there any way to keep your pet alive during this or is one of your pets doomed to fall? I just worry cause one advice I see to rangers is to try keep your pet alive because of the pet swap cd.

Another time is cliffside, with the strat to not killing the target, so this is more a question/clarifing the start of that strat. So you run up with the group killing off the non- target one then spam f3 as you run to the other seal and LoS the target chanter out of agro?

Also snowblind, The strat Im used to here is basicly the theify stealth for the bombfire. When I tried this once with another ranger friend his pet would cause agro and we would need to run off to de-agro them. Is there anything rangers can do to stop this for stealth tricks? Because of the nature of snowblind ( the frostbite ) the pet will come out not matter what and it seems atm that all rangers can do is sit back and watch :’(
