I did enjoy that! Thank you for sharing it with us!!
Yes it is viable in fractals, I do it myself. Just remmeber that no matter how bais you and me are to sword, you have to bring Gsword or even a bow to some fights
I will be very happy if I can choose to use the old sword #1. But sadly Anet just slap the new boring auto attack in your face, and tell whoever that don’t like the change to deal with it.
When the change came out, it seems like almost everyone have burst down in the tear of joy and shiver in the excitement as if witnessed a miracle. Players on the forum and Reddit, be it Ranger or not, were all chanting, “Our prayers have finally been answered!” “Praise Anet! PRAISE ANET!”. Although there were some others opinions appeared, they were either ignored or downvoted into eternal hell. On this glorious day, no heresy would be allowed.
And then, there was silence. Nothing changed. Life went on like the very day didn’t even exist. You would think that it must life changing if every single one around you acted like the god have descended. Yet a drama is just, well, a drama.
Months go by, only few people, like OP, remembers what the most unique auto attack in GW2 feels like. But alas, what we’ve lost will be lost forever. The Guild Wars 2 would end long before the sword #1 redeem its former self.
Fortunately this is only a computer game. Not to play will always be an option.
Hey, imagine how I felt, I just got back into the game about 2weeks ago to find my sword had changed >:
I am having an issue where I am stuck in the T3 fractal bracket. The issue being this bracket is dead (hardly any groups going on). T1 has tons of groups prime time, T2 has a lot of groups going on, and from what I hear, T4 also has a bunch of groups in LFG.
When groups do form up for the dailies, nearly 100% of the time they are for the lower level T3 fractals. I try to create my own groups, last night I posted in LFG for the Swamp fractal (which was the daily) level 67 and waited alone until I was booted. If a group does get started and we happen to wipe once, have the group leaves.
A few weeks ago I also posted in the “Looking For…” section of these forums looking for a guild for fractals, which didn’t turn up anything.
I am running out of ideas here. Any suggestions on how to raise my personal fractal level when I cannot get groups?
I’ve added you as a friend yesterday so we can make a time this week =) I’ll send you an ingame mail tonight
I have to admit that i must be one of the few who advocated against the changes made to Sword #1, mainly because i got so accustomed to it that cancelling the skill chain to Dodge was no problem for me (mainly using the two other skills on the weapon that are specifically designed to do just that – dodge), and because the Pounce part of the chain was a gap-closer and it made sticking to escaping enemies much easier.
However, I am no fool and do understand that Only a minority of the ranger player base had such an easy time dealing with the rooting that came with Sword, and it would be unrealistic and unreasonable to expect ANet to revert the changes to sword (although if they could roll back the animations to what they were before it would be really nice because i love how it was literally a dance while fighting, kinda like Water Dancing from Game of Thrones, it brought a poetic dimension to fighting, now it’s just “swing, swing, swing my sword again” – Colin Johanson)
I agree and I think they could if anet wanted too. They could make some sort of another type of sword. Call it what you like, old sword, dancing sword, pvp sword whatever but it uses the old style instead of the new one..
That way players can choose which one they want to use as both would be available
That would be cool.
Hi are you Na or Eu?
I might be able to help you, I’m Na myself
Sarah
I can only talk about fractals. They seem fine with people not caring/kicking me even though I don’t have spotter or frost spirit and I do PuG fractals alot. To be fair I do run main hand sword 99% and have food buffs so that might add to why I haven’t been kicked so far.
Sarah
I’m also Na although I’m from new zealand, so the timezones make it hard. Not all is in vain though! During my next day off I’m sure I can help out.

I’m gonna cheat and say 5 friends / family who have fractaled together for a couple of months would be the " best fractal comp "
Sarah
The problem with this fractal is how unforgiving it is. If you don’t do the heat room right, you lose all progress. Even worse is the collider lab. If you don’t do it right on the very first try, then the safety shields end up all over inside the room and it become progressively HARDER the more times you aren’t able to execute perfectly. Literally your best option if you don’t do it perfectly the first time is to quit the fractal and restart. That is horrible design, especially since the chances of doing it exactly right the first time are minuscule for most people. This is made even worse by the golems spread throughout the rooms that, depending on your class, cannot be soloed at higher levels as you are unable to move around due to the increasingly rapid energy blasts, so as you go up in level you increasingly need multiple people who can do the room perfectly in sync. You are literally relisting your group in LFG over and over trying to find people who can pull off these 2 rooms, because unless you are that someone, your ability to do this fractal depends on getting lucky in LFG. At least the anomaly, for all it’s faults, doesn’t become harder if you fail.
Wow haven’t posted here in a loonngg time :o
Anyway forgive my knowledge if it’s too old to use,
I know it sounds smiple, although have you tried killing all the golems first? I don’t mean to be rude in anyway. In gw you can choose ( in some degree ) where to fight, so for the first two golems, I believe you can lure them back to the corridoor with LoS ( line of sight ). That should open up a path atlest to the control pannel at the back.
Now if your at the controls facing back to the entrance, those two(?) golems on your right are tricky as you said, little room to dodge around.. From memory the switch around there was one safe sport where the lazers turrets can’t hit you and I can’t recall the other spot. Either way you’ll most likely need to cc the golems out of their spin atk so you guys don’t get pushed around and reflect his channelling beams.
As for the heat room, I can’t tell if you know about putting the cooling rods into the walls in the heat room or not so let us know if you don’t, otherwise I won’t keep telling you stuff you already know.
Other than that, it’s been a LONG time although I maybe able to help, I’m on Na if you want some help
Sarah
:o plus one from me. I’ve always had my eye on the medium norn dress Q.Q
I love the idea of exchange armor skins , not so much the skills
Sarah
No, just no. This does NOT show how EVERYONE feels, just most people (( like everyone on this forum )) feels about fractals. I myseld like the changes to fractals and will stick with it.
Nice to know others have the same thoughts. I guess we just save up the chests till we have maxed the fractal mastery line then open?
Also interesting to see that anet took the middle ground for the length of a fractal run. What I mean is: an old run was 4 fractals and now to do your fractal daily you need to do 6 fractal islands. (( 2x 3 of a tier lvl ))
Coming from someone who has multi sets and runs fractals often. I believe pack runes to be amazing for high dps (( not top )) for those days where you don’t feel 100% and in fights where you know your gona get hit.
Don’t get me wrong, scholar is best. It’s just some days I don’t feel up to keeping the upkeep of the scholar runes
Sarah
Same here, I haven’t been kicked for beening a ranger.
I have had my off days with sword though
In my opinion, you should embrace the kit functionally, or play a different profession. If you do not like the functionality, I see no reason to ruin it for those of us who do.
Totally agree. If you REALLY like weapon swap go play warrior with quick hands or whatever it’s called..
Hello Players!
In preparation for the launch of the new fractals system alongside Heart of Thorns, we’ll be disabling the Fractals of the Mists instance for a short time period on Thursday Night.
From 11:00pm PDT on October 22nd until the moment Heart of Thorns content becomes available, Fractals of the Mists will be inaccessible. Anyone already inside the instance may be removed from the instance at that time.
Once Heart of Thorns is available, the new version of the fractals instance will become available to all players.
As a reminder, we will not be resetting your player scale, so you may play the new fractals starting from whichever scale you had previously achieved.
We’ll see you in game!
Why does " Once Heart of Thorns is available, the new version of the fractals instance will become available to all players. " scare me the most out of evertthing said >.<
I know it’s still too early although I’m scared to know how much of those hero challenges I’ll be able to do without getting either of the first glider and/or the jumping one.. :/
Guess more WubWubing for me
You should be able to get the first levels of gliding and mushroom jumping pretty easily if you play through the jungle (which you’ll have to do for the new hero points anyway). Fractal mastery can only be earned outside the jungle (and outside WvW if I understand the latest dev posts correctly), so it won’t interfere.
Personally, I’m trying to keep myself from reading all of those “400 hero points???” threads all over the place, but they’re a bit like a train wreck, horrifying yet hard to keep your eyes off
.
Honestly I expected to have to do content inside the expansion one way or another for the elite specs, as it seemed unlikely they’d let people pretty much “spoil” that part of the new stuff by grinding it out exclusively in old content. I’m just happy that my core Tyria hero points will allow me to get a headstart. They could’ve just invented a new kind of “elite hero point” to make sure people unlock their elite specs in the new maps instead.
Mostly my dilemma will now be which characters to take through the jungle … I’d love to play my charr ranger and sylvari ele, since I’ve played all story on those two and enjoy the characters, but on the other hand I’m mostly interested in the chronomancer from the technical side of things.
Then again, one of my max-level mesmers (my favourite asura <3) is on my alt account, so likely to have to wait, the other asura mesmer is a more recent character with not much in terms of equipment or map exploration, and the third mesmer, the one with full map exploration and full ascended, is unfortunately my only human, a race I really don’t enjoy playing.
Not to mention those other 10 (11 if I manage to level my sylvari thief from 76 to 80 by Friday) max-level characters lurking in the shadows, looking at me with accusing eyes … why did anyone ever want an expansion, when all it brings is so many goodies to play with, you simply can’t decide what to do first???
On the positive and on-topic note, the number of serious, damage-oriented and dungeon/fractal interested players in my guild seems to finally go up. We actually had a number of relaxed but focussed dungeon runs lately where it wouldn’t take us an hour per dungeon path
. And the best thing is, some of those players are even new to dungeons and will be interested in running them quite a bit, despite less gold rewards, so I may be getting to finish my dungeoneer collection after all
.
The point is I’m gona try see how far I can get through the fractal mastery by just rushing it. I understand that I won’t be able to get all the hero points in the jungle because I won’t be getting gliding/mushroom jumping so that’s why I will rely on wubwub to get my hero points. I’m not sure about getting more mastery points, although I’ll figute that out as I go

Ps: was plaining to go all out on the fractal mastery first

Unlocking your elite spec is a training line in your training panel that costs hero points. You do need to have trained all the existing training lines before you’re allowed to put hero points into your elite spec.
If you’ve got all the hero points in the existing game you’ll have enough to train about half the elite specialization training line on launch day. The rest you’ll need to earn in the jungle or via the new system Tyler outlined yesterday from WvW. The number of points to fully train your elite spec is higher than other training lines – but hero challenges in the jungle are worth 10 points each, so it’s not actually as big as it appears.

Why in such a rush? With the elite specializations out and the re-scale difficulty, There will be a lot to do in fractals when HoT comes out.
Yes, I also will be maxing the fractal one first. Not sure how I’m gona go about doing it though ^ ^
My list in no class order:
Power engi / scrapper
Condi/trap ranger ( haven’t looked at druid )
Power guardian ( although they carry knight trinkets for fights where you can control the fight with high toughness )
Not set on the last two although maybe dps warrior with banners ( if they can ) and scepter/focus ele ( if lightning hammers can be used in speed runs. Carrying them to the next fight, duration, etc )
Sarah
It was wierd, I was trying it out in the beta weekend, in fractals and I found I/we engis will now have to learn the theify habbit of pining it before we use it and postion ourselfs close enough to our downed ally in need.
Sarah
Been burnt out on gw for about a month now. Finding this harder and harder to get back into although I am looking forward to scrapper, I’m not sure how long that will last.
Been nice to be able to buy fractal 50 after a long hard day at work
Best fun to be had on Mai Trin is to deliberately try to kill off your party members (especially in a pug) and then have fun soloing her.
Agree with trolling your friends who will take your joke. I hear a moa’d horrick does well for this goal although you totally didn’t hear that from me
It’s kinda funny. This is my first mmo and I was lucky/bless to have found/made a great network of friends and family. It’s interesting how different the game is in the PuG world.
Increasing the damage is the worst way to improve hammer AA.
Instead:
-Double Might/Vuln Stacking. Halve Might/Vuln Duration.
-Slightly Increase attack speed
-Reduce Aftercasts
I’m still testing the recover frames of the atuo attack or aftercasts as you know it. Either way they feel fair so I can’t say atm wither I agree or not about reducing them
Er I spent all day yesterday in fractals and I was critting bloomhunger and the swamp drake for over 4k. ( I was in full beserker )
Atm it’s the recovery frames after each swing that is getting me killed although that’s more a learn to play/ get good thing directed at myself.
+1 for the it’s balanced camp.
I’ve also done alittle testing although I’ve had to stop as I’m about to head to work in 10min, anyway I was hoping that the hammer skill #3 was something you had to manuely press 3 times so that way you could either do the whole chain quickly or delay the whole/last/any one of them if you needed to counter an enemy string.
Gypros so far so good. BUG: If you cast the sneak gyro then swap elites it blows up although you can still hear it and it gives stealth.
Sarah
also accepting any tips and tricks for new engi – any video?. I’m still practicing the complex dps rotation and improving my muscle memory for engi.
Don’t feel locked down into traits and skills, change when needed. You can even change while running to the next fight.
Stuff like: switching bombs & mortar for blinds
Equiping short fuse before blasting
Streamline kits with TK for running, streamline with medkit for reflect ( and flameblast with FT )
The infamous throw elixir U for reflects, throw elixir s for non-blast cap stealth
The beautiful overcharged shot + Eg toolbelt skill.
I would also take note of the range of your skills, you don’t need to be close to overcharge shot and can even jump before the projectile comes out for both overharged and air blast.
Also with the scrapper coming we are gona have even more soild options to use. It’s gona be fantasic!! I can’t wait to run around fractals with it!!. Anyway getting alittle of topic
Edit: power user myself, like it much better as it fits my personal playstyle more.
Sarah
(edited by Sarahfull.4930)
No thank you. Please keep the two together.
External stealth application is super bad for thieves if they plan on doing backstabs. And besides you’d still have to use the scrapper line in order to get that flying kitten and lose out on stuff that tools has to offer.
I know the hammer is attached to the trait line although I didn’t think the gyros would be too. If it isn’t I was just thinking it would of been a nice way for them to not have to use cloak and dagger and spend the initiative on more damaging stuff.
Edit: Another counter to my idea is buffing theif vs using obital for stacking might plus damage.
(edited by Sarahfull.4930)
Since engi’s don’t really need their elite for power dps rotation; Coud you take the invis gyro for your fello thiefs in your party?
Since the gyro will be giving them the reveal buff when they attack out of invis that would save them some initiative so they can do more with their own rotation?
( they still get +200 power with the revealed buff right? )
Sarah
Irenio, the invis dart on the gyro bothers me. Will that be a amination that you have to screenshot to see or will it be something that can be blocked and/or reflected?
I also want to comfirm two things ( if I may )
Rocket charge has 3 leaps each with there own evade frames on them?
Does the trait " Impact Savant " work with over charged shot? For CC’ing an enemy for longer.
I would also like to say great job with what you have shown us so far! The toolbelt move-able reflect, the invis gyro and the hamer look amazing and I can’t wait to achi great things in fractals with them plus the traits.
Sarah
Today was funny. I wasn’t in the mood for a fractal and I saw someone selling a lvl50.
I ask them if I could ask something first before I pay, so I asked if they got mossman. They said yes, and when I asked how they did it I instantly get vote kicked by them all xD
Before you, we had someone that wasn’t interested in buying, he just wanted to “talk” about what’s new with the game… we kicked him so many times, he kept spamming join, making people leave the party, while i was kiting Mai Trin. We didn’t want to risk a wipe/reset so was only natural to boot you too.
And to answer your Mossman question, no we didn’t killed him underwater. So kittening awesome right?
Well to me, it IS a big deal. Instead of kicking me, if you said you fought him normally I would of been more than happy to pay. I won’t pay a group that fought him underwater.
Edit: well fair enough, I know it can be annoying waiting to full slots. No harm done. =)

I miss the time when engi’s were the queen/kings of vulnerability. I wouldn’t mind the hammer losing the might for larger vulnerability. Something like:
Hit one 1 stacks of vul ( 12sec )
Hit two 1 stacks of vul ( 12sec )
Final hit 5 stacks of vul ( 12sec ) and a blast finisher ( I love that idea and lots of people have requested itSarah
Only if the blast finisher is probability based like auto projection finishers.
Otherwise it is much too powerful.
Yea it’s strong although I won’t say OP. Besides it would be better than increasing the base damage. I’m not too keen of might with auto attacks although a blast would be brillant

Tip range fighting, even with the hammer can lessen alot of the " risk " of fighting melee. I myself am looking forward to it in PvE. I do think the cd on the hammer are too low. I think as it stands we can have our own long reflect/block rotation.
Thief is much more preferred in any fast run groups just because he supports and utilizes icebow better than the engi.
Berserker engie is weaker than Thief with ice bow, yes, but the difference isn’t noticeable to the human eye. A 9 second ice bow boss fight lasts 9.5 with berserker engie in place of thief, and thats being generous to the Thief. Whoop de doo.
I can’t wait for Ice Bow to be gone then we get to read all the threads about how useless Thief is as a class in PvE.
More like, As we get more ways to conter-play stealth, theifs will complan they are now useless and can’t play anymore.
Question: Does launch effects like overcharged shot get effected by stun buffs from traits/runes etc? Like Impact Savant
Sarah
Warrior interested in learning Fractals. Thanks for this!
Na? Or Eu?
I’ve gone through alot of fractals were I either just used sword/dagger or used it like 99% of the time. Although in my case I’ve very stubbon and I love the move set those weapons give me.
Hi everyone,
As a way to improve my game and play well I’m trying to find my max range of my skills and have a indicator or use something else as jugdement for range so I can savely use the beserker rotation without much trouble. We all know how effective max melee is so I’m just applying it here. Does anyone have a good way for this?
I’m gona use " tip range " instead of max melee so for me they mean the same thing.
From what I’ve notice, tip range of bombs is the same as rifle 3 max dmg. Although you need to be alittle closer for tip range of acid bomb. ( yes, yes, bombs aren’t in that rotation ).
The range of overcharged shot suprised me as I normaly get way to close than I needed to be and the range of Ft air blast to get the reflect but not knockback the enemy was also a interesting find for me atlest.
Sarah
It’s a shame they can’t give you guys the code so you guys could mod dungeons to your liking. I believe you guys would do a great job breathing new life into them like moding communities do with other games.
Um.. don’t get me wrong, anet does a great job! Just that the have left dungeons now and it would of been cool if the comunity could get a hold of them.
