Do people realize you don’t even need to do it?

There “are” people who enjoy it. Let them have their fun.

If you are not having fun, don’t do it. I don’t enjoy wvw and jumping puzzle too, I didn’t ask Anet to remove that from the game.

If Anet want a real suggestion, make an easy mode. To appease to the more casual player. Keep the hard mode since there are obviously people who enjoy it by the feedback.

I’m not having fun with it, and I’ve quit trying Liadri. You know what irritates me about it though? Those Achievements I know I will likely never get. If they weren’t there, I might hate it less.

In addition to the OP, I would like the videos to be made on a live server, where we can watch them enduring the agony of having to queue to enter, every time they fail.

That’s what ruins the experience for me, frankly. Yay for queues.

but can we all agree that it’s a step in the right direction to finally introduce some non-faceroll content?

It’s not really a step in the right direction, more of a step around the right direction.

Make Liadri a boss for group play (scaled up a bit, of course), without very limited zoom capabilities, without a stupid patterned glass floor, without a stressful hidden timer and I might not mind it so much. Having tried it too many times to count though, and always failed in Phase 2, that’s that achievement written off for me. Frustrating does not equal fun, to me anyway.

I’m trying to get this done… tried Mesmer and Elementalist. I last about 10 seconds. When I get a crystal to spawn I seem to be perma knocked down with no way to get up. Is this the “orb bug” people speak of, or am I doing something wrong? Currently this looks to be impossible for me – can’t see any way of not being perma stunned long enough to spawn three crystals.

Guardian has stability that doesn't work?

Sarie.1630

Guardian has a lot of things that don’t work. Apparently Aegis blocks and Wall of Reflection don’t work on Deadeye. My stability was working on Wind-Woman though.

I suppose, what with PvE combat being too easy they’re having to make bosses completely ignore skills and buffs that players rely on, in order to “spice it up” a bit.

You find them in the open world. Sometimes they’re needed to gain access to a balloon tower.

What is the combo field? It says “Combo Field” under his name, but, having fought a few, I’ve not seen any combo fields from the Gunners. I was playing Ele though, maybe Ele players don’t trigger him to use it.

You know what needs to disappear? The corruption in Orr.

While the Living Story evolves, Orr is frozen in time. Just doesn’t make any sense.

And how much sense would it make doing the personal story for new players if there are no Risen nor a corrupted Orr?

They need to to do what WoW did and have Phasing.

I’ve no idea about WoW and maybe my idea was the same thing, but additional “the year after the Fall of Zhaitan” Orr zones would be great, only accessible to those players who completed the personal story. Seeing that place after Trahearne’s cleansing would be great.

With reference to Colin’s post. When the Jubilee is over, patience will be wearing thin, my friend. I would like to think ANet will deliver some great, permanent additions to the game as your post implies, but for now I will have to remain skeptical. Personally ( as someone else already said) I’m hoping for more Lost Shores style stuff, but with larger, more fleshed out explorable zones. More importantly, zones that add to World Completion…

Sarie.1630

I don’t begrudge ArenaNet a festival event over the 1 year anniversary.

After this I am going to become quite bored if we’re not given some kind of proper meaty content to chew into. I’m talking explorable zones (proper zones, not mini-southsun-style zones) and an extension to the Personal Story or a faster paced Living Story.

The Living Story feels like it’s just dribbling in right now, slow and sluggish. I know there’s an over-arcing story to it, even as far back as flame and frost, but little feels to have happened since that first F&F update at the start of the year. I’d prefer an extension to the Personal Story with permanent content such that I can advance it at a speed of my choosing until it’s conclusion.

They just defeated the only dragon to ever attack Krytan lands in the rememberable past.

Presume you mean Zhaitan, right? Attacking Kryta through use of this Risen.

Kessex Hills has quite the conglomeration of Destroyers bursting through y’know. I count two Dragons directly threatening the safety of Kryta and her people.

Hmm… I don’t see one-handed mini-Fellblade replicas in the HoM… I must have missed that achievement.

Same style as the two-handed weapon, but I think you know that.

I kinda figured they’d make HoM rewards less unique as the game got older, just like when they put the Bonus Mission Pack up to buy when they originally said it was only for those who pre-purchased Eye of the North.

Just one of those things.

Please, no more Festivals!!!

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Sarie.1630

Sarie.1630

Initially I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of another festival, but our team took that as a challenge to implement a festival that plays much differently than the others. I think we accomplished that.

It’s encouraging to see ArenaNet staff having … second thoughts? I don’t mind a birthday celebration, if that is what QJ indeed is, but I’d really, really like to get stuck into some meaty permanent content soon. Some new explorable zones, new faces, bigger dragons…pleeeeease.

At the rate Anet’s going and with Halloween just around the corner, I’m guessing we aren’t going to find out:
1)who the personal nemesis is
2)why the personal nemesis set up the molten alliance
3)who Scarlet and Mr. E are and what the deal is with the aetherblades
4)what Kasmeer and Marjory have to do with all of this
until sometime next year…..

Knowing Anet, they might just completely forget about them.
Just like how they forgot about the “mysterious stranger” in Zinn’s Task and the “he” in Hearts of the North back in gw1. Not to mention whatever happened to Evennia………

I don’t think ArenaNet do forget most of the time, but they leave you hanging too long.

Sarie.1630

Whoever says to solo this apparently need to do it again. Especially after yesterday patch. It buffed it so much that’s it impossible.

I myself did solo both evon and kiel t4 before without bug. But It is now too hard.

I’ve just tried this, on a wide variety of alts, and just can’t. Closest I got was 30 seconds remaining, on my “ok geared” warrior. Most of the time I failed at 2 mins remaining, mainly because the veterans, once aggro’d, would just plunderer-spawn camp, making the one closest to the treasure impossible to get to without being perma-stunned, and the other two increasingly more difficult the more mobs that spawn.

As far as solo goes, I’d like to have been able to kill every mob there, not cower away at the back, trying to reset mobs and only take out the ones I need to. This to me is very, very lame design. Why can’t ArenaNet have designed it such that you get bombarded with more and more non-veterans, and were able to kill them whilst taking out plunderers, rather than high-HP veterans that you have to hope you don’t aggro? I would much rather try to control and destroy trash mobs than have trash mobs so powerful that they zerg you and kill you in seconds if you aggro anything after the 3 minute marker.

Well, as an Engi I just completed it. The downside is that the T4 of Kiel didn’t count for some stupid reason.

Build = Typical Rifle Static Burst PVP with the Discharge trait changed to SCOPE.

I tried this also – I did far worse than Warrior with it.

Part of my problem, perhaps, is that the professions best placed to complete this are not my best geared, and not my best practiced. I guess it’s too much to hope for a bit of a level playing field in these kinds of missions.

So what do we conclude? In order to complete all the content in future we all need one of each profession, with the gear and ability to run every kind of build on it, just in case it’s needed?

As a side note, I’d love to see ArenaNet livestream one of the devs playing this solo, just so we can see how they go about it.

Everyone assumes it was a Canthan district, it would be a reasonable assumption since I’m sure I recall seeing Canthan buildings within Divinity’s Reach in a (very) pre-Beta screenshot.

I spoke to many NPCs in Divinity’s Reach after release. I seem to recall this area to be the former site of the “Entertainment District”. I imagine this is what is being rebuilt. There seems to be a large circular path within the collapse barricade which might suggest some kind of…arena being constructed?

If the numbers of spiders that spawn now was intended it should have taken far less than 10 months for them to fix the boss to make it spawn the correct amount. The tree never used to chuck out 6 silvers and countless, countless small spiders every 30 seconds of combat

This boss seems to be far harder than anything in Arah right now, unless you’re able to solo it, not that it matters any more. Everyone who matters has their Dungeon Master title, right?

I’m a PvEer, primarily, but don’t mind a bit of WvW from time to time.

Honestly, it would be more appealing to me if I could have a specific WvW build saved in those zones, much like sPvP. I often use my PvE build out of lazyness – but a build saving mechanic would be very convenient, and may entice me into WvW more often.

In addition – would be nice to have no armour repair costs if the damage you take is entirely from other players or siege.

Sarie.1630

I’m not going to comment on the WvW element.

If I understood your ranting about gearing up correctly, though, I disagree with the sentiment. There are many, many ways to gear up. Many options are cheaper than asking someone to craft you a set, even if they sometimes take a little longer. Dungeons give very easily obtainable armour in a variety of skins and stats. Most recently the achievement rewards have been chucking badges of honour at us like sweeties – I have obtained almost 2 sets of L80 exotic armour so far. True, I have the achievement points banked up since release, but in order to obtain one set you only require 4000ish APs? There is plenty to do in-game in order to increase your achievement points and earn these rewards as a new player is levelling for the first time. In addition, do I even need to mention Karma? Karma Jugs, Karma Drops, Karma from dungeons – the world is filled with Karma which can – you guessed it – also be used to obtain exotic armour and jewelry.

If new players struggle with gearing up it’s very likely that they just don’t know the different ways it can be so easily obtained. I accept that some rune sets can cost a lot of money, but there is absolutely no harm in using Orbs instead until you earn money for the rune set you crave.

You seem to need to dig a bit for story, which players aren’t prepared to do – they want it all given to them in convenient, quick cut-scenes. I think there is lore to be had, but that said, the story does seem to progress VERY slowly. Perhaps it will speed up now we’re getting fortnightly patches. A lot of the superficial stuff (achievements, mini games) is there to give people a reason to play, something to work toward, and something to earn.

Guys, if you are so kitten interested in the stories that you so much seem to be, go and talk to NPCs, go and listen to them talking, find hidden books or whatever.

This is going to be the excuse people use for poor game design every time. “it’s free”. We’re getting free content updates because they seem to have no plans to work on an expansion. Therefore the content, free or otherwise, is designed to keep people playing and interested. As such this “free content” still needs to come up to scratch.

It could be in Lion’s Arch but this particular piece of concept art hints at a brand new location. At first glance it looks like a gigantic cave but then the brightness of the background would instead indicate that they’re at the bottom of some cliff. There’s also a lot of water in the lower parts. Maybe it’s a new zone in the Sea of Sorrows. It would make sense since Ree’s book is based on this region of Tyria.

https://d3b4yo2b5lbfy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/bbb8fKiteCity-2.jpg

The concept art kinda reminds me a bit of the Hooligan’s Route in Lion’s Arch.

If you assume it’s “around LA” like most updates seem to be, there is quite limited place for a new mini explorable area. In between LA and Kessex would seem “legit”.

“Because new players need to be able to catch up” is not a valid argument, because no one has a problem with any of the other currencies not doing that.

I know, right? "We should give all new players 500 gold when they create an account to ‘give them a chance’ ". Other MMOs seem to incentivise new players in other ways, such as faster levelling or fistfulls of XP/currency boosts. I spent quite some time completing dailies over and above the minimum 5 I needed, as well as monthlys, and I’m with all those players who would not want these taken away.

At the end of the day new players can save up for reward skins, just the same as I have to – the fact I’ve been playing since release and have amassed many thousands of points should merely be seen as generous gesture from ArenaNet to regular players. When it comes to leaderboards, that discussion should be for elsewhere. In my view achievement point leaderboards could be scrapped with no detriment to the game, but then again they don’t mean an awful lot as they are – so why change them?

What kind of new player begins an MMO, a year after release, thinking “I’m going to soar to the top of those achievement leaderboards!!!”. I don’t think the inability to reach the top of the achievement leaderboards will turn off enough new players to harm the game.

Any profession can do this. Keep a ranged weapon at hand to grind the golems down. The above advice is quite adequate though. Stand on a box and let the small laser pass under you, run half way around the room to the box on the opposite side, by this time the second small laser will be heading for you, jump on box, and repeat.

I’d really love to speak to the Dev who intended the top of the well in Obsidian Sanctum to be camped by 20+ Germans on the basis “it’s meant to be played that way”. Is it really meant to be played that way, or are some people just total kittens wanting free kills wherever they can get them?

To me, The Obsidian Sanctum is meant to be somewhat more strategic than “get the biggest zerg you can, boys, then wait at the top of a high area to jump onto anyone trying to get up – it’ll be fun since it’s super hard for people to keep checking what’s above them whilst jumping around in circles on little boards”.

People can argue as much as they want that “you gotta expect PvP in WvW lol” but it simply doesn’t wash with me. I do expect PvP in WvW, but players using an event as an excuse to camp the one route through to it is somewhat unfair, and really really kitten of them. Imagine every time you went to mine Orichalcum five legendaries spawned and played golf with your face – would it be acceptable for me to say “it’s PvE bro, gotta expect mobs lol”. No, because it’s too extreme to be fair. I have no problem with PvP in the Sanctum, but even with a small group vs a zerg of 20, 30, 40+ people? Come on, we all know there’s nothing fair about that.

…and until a Dev comes online and states that it was ArenaNet’s intention for the dominant server to place massive impassable zergs at bottlenecks through that dungeon then I refuse to accept any argument from players supporting that view.

If you want to be safe do the dungeon with your guardian with a hammer

On a more serious note it has always bugged me how quickly players start asking for “super pro 100-time completer zerker warrior speed clear run fanatics GEARCHEEEEECKKKK!!!!!!!”. I know it’s just how the game works, but still, meh.

So what do soloists do?

I enjoy completing stuff solo a lot of the time, but in this kind of game you need to make concessions.

There is a bit of content for every kind of player out there. Not all of it will be exactly how you want it. I don’t mind PuGing dungeons like this, but if it’s something you can’t bear the thought of doing – it’ll have to be something you will resign yourself to missing out on.

It’s sorta like me saying “I don’t like WvW, I want a WvW that I can experience solo.” What would be the point? Dungeons like this are designed to make use of group mechanics.

PvP in a PvP area is not griefing.
it is called playing the game as it is intended.

achievements are not entitlements.

The issue is that a large amount of PvE’ers etner attempting to get a PvE achievement. Knowing this, players will sit (having already finished the puzzle themselves) WILL SIT at the top of the arena or in other areas and ambush players. They don’t put in effort. They literally sit and farm people because they can’t get their badges in a fair fight, or perhaps just like to make other people’s lives miserable. If this is intended play, then Anet is more sadistic than I previously thought.

For the record, I’m dreading doing this myself. That said, if a losing server is struggling I guess they will have to be a little more tactical about it. Leave a zerg at the start to halt opponent’s backup and send another zerg through the puzzle, eventually get a Mesmer to the end, and Bingo. As is usually the case with WvW, 90% of winning depends on who has the bigger zerg.

In addition to the above – people have to sleep, surely. Maybe if you can stay awake longer than the person guarding the way up you’re in with a shot!
