So far I’ve opened 5000/50,000 bags. Nearing the 5000th bag I got ONE Zuzu.

People weren’t joking when it physically hurts to click so much.. uhg. I’ll be opening them in lots (5k at a time) but it’ll be over the process of a few days as I’m working quite a lot this week.

Hoping to snag a Gwynefyrdd… heck, how do you even pronounce that word? Haha.

Welsh
Goo – unn – eh – feerth

Of course, this is from a company that uses Gaelic names for one of its races and makes no attempt to pronounce those correctly. So just call it Bob.

New recipes cost too much to use?

What’s the point of introducing new consumable recipes if the crafting cost is so high that nobody will use them? Some are even time-gated or use time-gated ingredients. Recent examples:

  • Sharpening stone station and variants
  • Dry top foods
  • New halloween consumables

Would new players be buying expensive recipes? Probably not, but again…maybe the Devs will implement the suggestion?

Consider then a situation where you get a rare expensive recipe as a reward. We had this not too long ago – Marionette doled out ascended Keeper’s recipes, a couple of which are still higher than 200g. I got the staff recipe (120-180g at the time), and you can bet I triple-checked that one before clicking it ;D

I’ve seen another suggestion before which I am definetely a supporter of. Basically what they could do is have bought-recipes unlock on all of your characters.

I’d hesitate to go this route, as a lot of people use crafting to level alts. I don’t know what this would really mean for xp if a player couldn’t get discovery bonuses because everything had already been discovered.

Aren’t the red, white, and green texts enough?

Look through the forum. Someone posted today about using a recipe sheet on the wrong character. Evidently the color change isn’t enough, since it only goes red (warning) when you have the right crafting discipline but not the required levels in it.

Picked up the first 3 messages on the same character that couldn’t interact with the ghosts previously. It’s my oldest character, and coincidentally she’s wearing the full edition of Memoires. I’ve finished boxing the Prince up – I think that might be the determining factor in getting the ghosts to cooperate.

I’ve checked the Priory archives and all around LA trying to find someone that might bind these things into the first book. No dice so far. I haven’t taken her back in to see Tassi; I figure someone would have already done that.

But is it really an illusion in this case? Granted, it is way better than it used to be. Way back when, it was very predictable. This was early winter 2012/2013, post Lost Shores and the infamous November loot nerfs. I remember that whenever I got a rare, which was extremely rare in those days, most of the time, probably more than 80% of the time, I would get a second rare shortly there after that would have either the same base stats or same sigil, or the identical item sometimes. It happened this way often enough that it was surprising when it didn’t happen. From the forge, I once had 3 identical exotics staffs drop from ~20 rare combination attempts in the forge. Of the 7 I had drop that day, which, granted is a good rate for exotics, 3 were identical, 3 where the same base item skin with different stats and no upgrade, the 4 that had upgrades all had the same upgrade (Dire Orrian Staff of Rage x 3, Shaman’s Etched Batch of Rage, Rampager’s Pearl Quarterstaff (No upgrade), Carrion Pearl Quarterstaff (No upgrade) Valkyrie Pearl Quarterstaff (No upgrade)). I’ve seen this sort of “clustering” behavior every time I’ve used the forge in bulk…granted that was only 3 times I think since I only forge stuff I make or stuff I find.

While I’ll grant you these sorts of things are possible with RNG, the sheer size of the loot table should make this sort of behavior extremely unlikely, much less predictable.

There are some 90000 ‘available’ items in the game, of all types; that number is probably low by several thousand.

About 39000 weapons and armor pieces are actually in play. Compare that to the combination of variables that make up a weapon and you’ll see there’s really only a tiny fraction of the gear possible actually in the game.

One of the common menaces I see bedeviling players is that they commit a recipe sheet to the wrong character. I’ve been bitten by this once or twice myself. This mistake is often costly, since a good number of recipe sheets are available for several gold and once applied to the wrong character, the player has no recourse but to buy a new sheet or to begin leveling a discipline from scratch and pay switchover fees.

So rather than allow this to continue willy-nilly, how’s about installing a confirmation dialog that will appear if you use a recipe sheet on a character who is focused on none of the attached crafting disciplines? Give one extra warning before the sheet goes to waste.

I dont see how this would add value to the cheap precursors.

Value doesn’t need to be added to cheap precursors. Cheap precursors have value already.

I might normally agree with you, but not in this instance. The ghosts should have some way of getting to the players, regardless of where they are. There are plenty of good hiding places that afford a fair chance already (some players are even using emotes to further obscure themselves). Hopping onto a rock where you can’t be touched except by extraordinary means is not only unfair, it’s the most boring way to win as you stand around waiting for the timer to run down.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sariel V.7024

In a player driven economy, the demand of an item surpassing the supply generated by the playerbase will increase the value of it. While there are some items in these bags that are not based around cosmetics (the low drop rate of T6 mats), the price of these bags is directly relative to the cosmetic value that is being placed on them. While currently profitable, that profit is derrived directly from other players and their willingness to play a higher price. In essence, this is a transfer of wealth not wealth generation.

As far as this specific spawn of ambients is concerned, it’s definatly one of the faster ones to farm. As long as the playerbase is willing to pay for that item, and the demand remains higher than the supply, it will be profitable. This is not an exploit, it’s the playerbase saying “thank you for farming this, because we didn’t want to”.

There is one problem though. People who completed the instance cant return to it and loose the ability to farm it.

You can save them for next year. But yeah, it kinda sucks :/

DR definitely does exist. Just go and farm lab till it becomes applied to you.

In that comment he was referring to the game as a whole. So while some individuals may get hit by DR most of the players are not because they are not staying in a localized area for long enough.

This. Also, consider the timing. This was stated before the Halloween update and the current localized farmfest.

I went to test this for myself, put in the eldritch scroll, and the core greyed out. I should have taken a screenshot but wasn’t thinking. I took out the scroll, put in the core, and then the scroll was not greyed out. So I went back to nothing in, and put in the scroll, and this time the core did not grey out. So…I’m not sure how to reproduce it greying out….?

I’ve been playing with this lately. Order matters. Scroll or coins first usually produce no matches, but picking the other items will tend to light up first two. Once the forge sees a working combination, it seems to remember it for a while.

As AMAZING and EPIC as this is… I really have to ask… why can’t this be added IN GAME? Only the few forum/reddit users are even going to be aware of this which is a bummer because, to be honest, it’s a really neat idea.

Something like this would be wonderful in GW2 itself. Where maybe, for example, a new hint is added every Tuesday by some character in the game (some Hermit Sage who randomly appears for only a couple minutes every few hours in some random zone??) I think this would fuel some cool in-game community and discussions.

Here here.

Since we’re down to a weapon and a few tonics anyways, it’s about time to restock the forge with some fresh recipes. And whatever hints we had from in-game before, no one seems to have clued in on.

I have these items and many others listen in my wardrobe….. is this list saying you cant get them ANY LONGER? Because I’m pretty sure most of these were all available at one point.

I myself got many of those, they were part of the old PvP reward system. But since the April Feature Patch, they are no longer obtainable.

When I first started looking into missing skins in the wardrobe, the info I posted was colored by the perspective of a PvE player that had never entered PvP. ‘Not currently available’ and ‘Never available’ weren’t easy distinctions to make. The availability is accurate as best we know, but it still falls to how good are the sources of information that we have. What can be gained currently from PvP tracks is something that only PvP players really know, and they neither comment on these threads nor help much with Wiki. Supposedly the missing Etched Shortbow skin is available via the Shiverpeaks track, so there is always hope.

I’m working on the Krytan track right now. If we’re lucky, I’ll see 2 of those as possible rewards at the end of it.

sigh I get changing the rewards for story completion for the future, but was it really necessary to change the level requirements on equipped items?

It was super uncool to log into a lower level character tonight and discover she was standing there in her bra and bare handed because her coat and gloves had abruptly out-leveled her. It was not a lot of fun to have to pay for a waypoint to a place where I could buy gear and then pay to replace items I’d already earned playing my story, especially since I was doing the walk of shame with a very obviously partially unclothed character.

Another character was no longer able to equip her active weapon and happened to be parked in a combat zone, which made replacing the gear even less fun.

Not a very happy player tonight. :-(

THAT shouldn’t have happened. The old Personal Story rewards and the new Personal Story rewards are different items – separate entries in the item database. There was no need to swap an existing item with a new one.

These are my current guesses:

1. Eldritch scroll
– eldritch means eerie or weird
– rolled up it would fit nicely into a cylindrical canister
– a scroll would not be something you would want to get wet
2. Bottle of Elonian wine
– Elonian’s have a heritage they might feel sensitive about
– wine seems to be a common type item
– lots of merchants and guards around
– water nearby

I’m patiently waiting for more of the story to see what three and four might be.

I like your #1, but I have trouble justifying it being as it was described.

If #1 is true, it pretty much specifies what one of the upcoming items is.

And I never once got an invitation to leave the instance either, so the game apparently thinks that handful of people is populated enough.

That kittening Horror. I was with a group of 5 last night when he plowed through us in an attempt to ruin our night. We got him near the door and just kept throwing our limp corpses at him until his joined ours on top of the heap, just like in the old days of dungeoneering.

Hmm..there’s a Mysterious Fog down in the sewers under LA. When you talk to it/him/her, you say (as an Asura, anyway) ‘What happened to you?’ It isn’t you that says this, but the Fog, as it turns out.

Then the Mysterious Fog disappears, and you can ‘Interact’, and do the picking up animation, but my character didn’t seem to pick anything up. Strange….

Edit: After Mysterious Fog passes a particular place, a ‘Suspicious Area’ (or Suspicious something) appears, and that is what you can interact with, and subsequently do the ‘picking up’ animation. Still picked up nothing that I can see…

More edits: The ‘Mysterious Fog’ says different things if you follow it/him/her…one of which is ‘Wanna play?’, giving the impression it is a child.

When I followed the mysterious fog it led me to samson, he was part of the scavenger hunt in 2012 for the mad memoires. When interacting with him he even gave me his piece. Maybe we can get the mad memoires again this year? Or maybe it’s just a bug/remnant from 2012?

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sariel V.7024

I’m at 185% MF, and drop rates are fine. In the attached picture, all the Ecto you see were salvaged from Rare and Exotics (btw – Ecto salvage rates are fine too). I’ve gotten multiple Precursor drops from monsters and from Zommoros.

Your picture only proves that you play quite a lot and that you’ve probably seen hundrets of thousands of drops, not that RNG has a positive effect on your drops.

Actually, I think what that picture shows is what John essentially said in a post earlier that people sort of look past: Some accounts are “lucky” and some are “unlucky.” That is if the pool is large enough you will inevitably have accounts at either end of the RNG distribution over an extended period of time. No wonder Penguin is such an avid defender of the current rewards system and economy! Its working for him/her thank you very much so leave it alone! lol

MF doesn’t affect salvage.

Mr. Penguin, how many of those rares were from the guaranteed bonus chests on the world champ train, would you say?

Huh? Where in his post did he say MF affected salvage rates? I looked back in that post string and saw salvaging mentioned in Penguin’s post. However, he didn’t state that MF increase ecto salvage rates either. Unless there’s a post outside of that, I’m going to have to say that neither suggested it.

It felt implied by stringing the ecto and MF one right after the other. You only get ecto from salvage – it doesn’t drop in the wild. Had he led with the bevy of rares he was getting, I’d probably have caught on. My bad. ;D

I’d continue to my next point from there but I’m having a bad time wording it coherently. Mostly it boils down to MF is only applied in a limited way, and do you really keep track of how you accumulate your yellows over time, to be able to tell if MF-independent rewards aren’t changing your numbers?

If you don’t like the Fractal Skin, your only other option is to delete it. WHY?
If you don’t like the Ascended Ring (or even Ascended weapon/armor you got from the box) you can only sell them for some useless silver. WHY?

(getting seriously off-topic here)

This speaks to the philosophy behind the design of Fractals. Fractals were made as a harder set of content to be done completely optionally by people that enjoyed harder content. If you didn’t like harder content, you didn’t need to feel compelled to do it because you were missing out on better rewards. To accomplish this, rewards are little more than bragging rights items like skins and easy access to a tier of gear that is a mere jot better than what someone could normally get in the rest of the game. To keep exclusivity, they aren’t tradable.

Fractals were never intended to get players rich, because then out come the complainers demanding why do the elitist fractal runners get all the gold and they only get to look on in wonder. Thus, no cottage industry of gathering rings for resale, no fractal skins on the Trade Post, no getting 5 times the gold you would for running a dungeon path.

This was clearer at the outset when it was repeatedly stressed that you wouldn’t HAVE to do Fractals if you didn’t want to. This was before fractals were expanded, before the great reset, and before most ascended gear was even a thing. IMO, players have lost sight of this in the interim, and what was served by bragging rights is now demanding rewards that outstrip other forms of play.

So if we take this and apply it to the current situation, I’d say the best solution would be to add the fractal skins to BUY-1337 for some ridiculous amount of pristine fractals, make the skins tradable for a few of the same. Balance is maintained.

TL/DR: BECAUSE!
