Guild Wars 2 HoT Release Date? [merged]

“will be released when it’s ready” is NOT an answer. Basically you’re telling us it will be released next month or next year.

It is an answer.

It’s just not the answer you’re wanting. And I highly doubt it’s next month. 6 weeks a DEMO will be available at Pax East. If the game was out, it wouldn’t be a demo.

It also gives a huge hint that maybe NCSoft isn’t pushing ANet to get the game out. Meaning that it won’t be rushed to market if something comes up that requires more time than initially thought.

Do they have a release date in mind? Of course they do. All companies have the release date in mind AGES before they tell the public. The moment they tell the public is the moment they can’t quietly delay it without any negative publicity (at least as long as there aren’t too many delays).

There will likely be some soloable events and some events will likely need groups.

Just like every other map out there.

I prefer playing alone, but I know others don’t. This is also an MMO. Those of us who prefer playing alone should be thankful we’re given content geared toward solo play at all.

For the first few months, maybe. While people fully explore the Heart of Maguuma. But once that’s done and we’ve got new LS being added, I don’t see it being any different than it was before.

You’ll also have people slowly leveling up Revenants as some one want to use Tomes or have Tomes. Or leveling up other professions to see the specialization. I know I’ll likely either heavily research or level up an ele of my own before I turn my main into whatever specialization the Elementalists have.

I doubt the zones will be any less active in the long run than they are now.

And of course, there are the people who don’t buy Heart of Thorns.

Was it even a lie-lie or was it a “lie of omission”?

Either way, laying it out there like that with no fanfare and no accusation and just “you salvaged X ecto for Y dust” wasn’t unprofessional. It was the only professional way to handle answering that and making sure to let it be known you were thorough.

It’s like it’s not “unprofessional” to call for a manager to check your drawer when someone says they gave you $20 when they handed you a $10 and either weren’t paying attention or trying to scam you. If they feel embarrassed about the facts coming to light (you handed me a $10 instead of a $20 and my drawer reflects that) that’s their problem.

Unprofessional is adding: “Now get out of here before I taunt you a second time” as they storm out of the store.

Except let’s improve upon your analogy.

Because you gloss over the fact that the correction was made publicly.

So let’s add to your analogy that after the truth comes to light, that the person (whether intentionally or by accident) gave a $10 instead of a $20, the employee in the situation then proceeds to yell at the top of their lungs “See? You only gave me a $10 bill instead of the $20 you claimed.”

Now do you see the difference? It’s involving people who didn’t need to be involved. Could the OP have not been PMed that the data had actually been checked and it was found that only X number of ectos were salvaged, not the claimed Y?

Let’s also point out that no matter what the OP says in their defence, whether true or not, most people aren’t going to believe them. They’re going to believe what the almighty red poster said, even if there’s the potential that he lied or made a mistake himself, intentionally or not.

Edit: I’ll point out that the OP defended themself by saying that they are sure they salvaged a full stack, and didn’t salvage the rest of the 2,500. They never said they salvaged 2,500. In actual fairness to the OP, it’s entirely plausible that they tried to buy 2,500 but the TP didn’t allow it (I’ve had it happen more than once that I set a figure to buy a huge amount of something but it doesn’t buy all of them), or that they accidentally did something that cut down a stack and they legitimately thought they were salvaging a full stack.

But people would rather default to “Hey, this guy’s a phony. A great big phony.”

So again, given the actually decent possibility that the OP made an honest mistake, is the humiliation still warranted?

Analogy isn’t completely true.

This is the better analogy:

Customer 1 posted on the company’s FB that they allow their employees to short change their customers. Manager A investigates this claim and discovers that Customer 1 was lying about their story. Manager A then goes on FB and sets the record straight. That they don’t allow it and that it never happened in the time frame that Customer 1 said he was short changed in.

The OP made the matter public when he posted on the forums and not submitting a ticket in game or through Support. The public deserves to know when they are being lied to whether by customers or employees.

And a lie of omission is still a lie. He ONLY corrected the implication he salvaged 2500 ectos AFTER John Smith posted how many he had actually salvaged.

John’s response was completely appropriate. The OP made a claim that the company’s technology was malfunctioning based on the interpretation of some data. The response was that there is no malfunction, because the data being used was incorrect. Providing the real data was important in this case beyond the simple “working as intended” line, because the originally claimed data was so far outside expected values for a working as intended system.

An appropriate response was the first few posts, where he tests it and shares the result of the test.

Going further to point out the lie does not prove anything except that the OP lied. The information about how many they salvaged was entirely irrelevant in regards to proof that the system was working normally.

Although, to be entirely fair, we don’t really have any proof that what John Smith claimed about the OP is true either, although that’s another can of speculative worms that I’m not going to open.

And letting the masses know the OP lied is important. It lets us readers know that we shouldn’t just trust anything the OP says unless they can back it up.

And it lets others who may think to lie about something to get something looked into or corrected, a word of warning. Lie and get caught when the numbers are checked, you will be called out on it.

Lying shouldn’t go unpunished. And when a lie is this big in magnitude (2500 is MUCH larger than 145 or even 250), the public deserves to know. It wasn’t like it was 2145 ectos instead of 2500.

As an addendum OP, you salvaged 145 ectos for 279 dust.

As amusing as this is (and it is indeed greatly amusing!), I don’t think it’s good business practice to embarass your customers !

I have to agree. John’s response made me feel greatly uncomfortable. It’s rather unprofessional because it erodes the relationship between the developer and the customer. What are the standards for when Anet should and should not humiliate players? My preference would be never.

He corrected a lie. It’s better to have truthful information out there rather than fabricated information created to serve someone’s ulterior motive(s). It would not have been embarrassing to the OP had he simply not made it up or make up another lie after it was pointed out how many salvage he had actually done.

They also used to do this in a reddit thread. People would say they did nothing wrong and were then proven that they were incorrect.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/yxx3m/suspensions_for_offensive_names_and_inappropriate/

This is far different. Those people were breaking the rules and trying to embarrass and malign Anet over their suspensions. Even then, Anet stated why they were suspended because it was relevant to the topic. They did not do it to humiliate or attack them. They did it to clear up the misunderstanding.

As Filiha pointed out, John’s response brought nothing to the topic other than to humilate the OP. John’s first few responses resolved the issue. After that it just turned into a public lynching.

It brought to the topic that the OP lied (lie of omission). When people started commenting on 2500 sample size he remained quiet that he had not salvaged all that he bought. Lying yet again.

His next post in the topic never once apologized for the misunderstanding in the first post.

Meaning he meant to omit the fact that he had not salvaged all 2500 ectos.

He lied in order to get ANet to look into the numbers. He wasted John’s time since what he salvaged was no where near high enough to get an investigation started.

He let readers know that the OP will lie to further their own agenda.

Independently of the figures the OP was giving, there is one misconception in the mind of a lot of people.

Random does NOT mean evenly distributed. And it does NOT mean “fair”, as that is a human concept. It simply means “the outcome of one action is not influenced by the outcome of a previous action, but random”. And a random CHANCE simply means “and then a filter is added to the outcome of the action that only lets a specific range of possible values pass through.” So a random chance of 5% means: if the random generator generates discrete random values in a range of 1 to 100, only 5 of these values will be considered a success.

That’s it. To see an even distribution, the amount of samples has to be extremely big and while it is easy to do this on a programmatic base, it’s hard to do if you have to do it manually.

This. At least for independent probability, which ecto salvaging is.

Random isn’t fair with how many an individual person gets in a short amount of time with a small amount of tries. Random is fair ONLY in the chances of getting something. If it was fair, bluffing wouldn’t be as risky as it is for the bluffer in poker. Because everyone would know that everyone has a good hand.

And all the drop rates in the game and the salvage rates are determined by what is best for the economy as a whole.

So even assuming 2500 were salvaged, that’s 0.29% of the total for this week….yeh, statistics ftw

Yeah, but still, people aren’t statistics. Wouldn’t it be reasonable for someone to purchase a large amount of Ectos for a single player, break them down, and be upset with what they perceive as a personally bad result? Perhaps it would be better to level off the curves a bit, so that nobody would be reporting “statistically possible” but “undesirably low” results.

TLDR; reporting that “the distribution of something across the entire game’s population is within the intended values” does not mean the same thing as “it’s not actually a problem.”

It does mean that it’s not actually a problem. John Smith’s job is to look after the economy of the game. Not the individual player’s rate of acquisition of certain items.

And it’s also a sample size problem.

Most people don’t salvage enough ecto in a short amount of time to determine with a high level of confidence that the numbers are off. John Smith himself said that 2500 ectos salvaged is not enough to prove (or disprove) that the numbers are off. It was enough to get him to look at the data where he can get access to a sample size large enough to get a very high confidence level on if the numbers are fine or not.

OK, not sure where you got 145, because I am sure I definitely salvaged a whole stack (250) and got c. 270 dust, then I did a few more with a standard kit and got a low yield (1.2x, but not large enough sample size). I stopped at that point and didn’t do the rest of the 2500, but I did do another stack (250) now and got a normal result. Not sure what is going on, but problem is fixed.

Experience also looks normal again, almost 26K

Thanks for caring

He got it from checking the logs. He’s got that kind of power.

Nothing was fixed. The chances weren’t altered at all. You just had a run of bad luck. Someone else could have gotten a run of good luck and gotten a higher average of dust to ecto salvaged.

You can flip a fair coin 1 million times and it is entirely possible, though astronomically unlikely, to get tails all 1 million times.

It’s because each flip is independent of each other. What you got last time does not affect what you get the next time. It doesn’t care that you’re batting a low average on dust. It’s not going to increase the chances so that you arrive at the normal average.

It’s not a deck of cards that you draw a card out of each time and don’t replace the one you just drew.

The probability of getting dust from ecto when you did the most recent stack was the EXACT same probability that caused you to post them. So nothing was fixed, because nothing was broken.

Not only was his sample size a whole lot smaller than what he claimed and no where near large enough to warrant any investigation, his results were higher than he should have gotten. He got 1.92 dust per ecto.

In regard to examples like the coin flipping:

Think of it this way: each individual time you flip the coin, it’s still a 50/50 chance it lands on tails. So if you flipped the coin 999 times and got tails 899 times, then on that 1000th flip it is still a 50/50 chance it lands on tails.

Having it land on tails 899/999 times previously has no bearing whatsoever on the 1000th flip. None at all.

But if a coin is Tails side heavy, it will more than likely land with Heads face up more than 50% of the time just due to gravity.

That’s what this post is asking. Is the coin a fair coin?

Ecto salvage rate should be 1.77 dust/ecto according to the OP. He’s gotten a decent sample size for determining a hypothesis. And his hypothesis is the ecto salvage rate has been altered somehow. AKA: the coin isn’t fair.

The larger the sample size, the closer the results will be to the true probability.

The more times you flip a coin, the more likely you’ll hit 50/50. Flip a coin twice and you could get 100% heads or 100% tails, even with a fair coin. But flip it 10 times and the chances are much lower. 100 times, even lower. Due to the independent nature of coin flipping.

That’s why other posters have called him out his sample size. It’s not large enough to say that it’s definitely changed. But enough to warrant a check to make sure it hasn’t been affected by something else unintentionally.

2500 is a large sample size and statistically significant. Whether or not you can flip heads 900 times irrelevant. That’s the purpose of a large sample size, to reduce statistical variability. If you don’t agree that 2500 is enough or you’re stuck on the idea that, for whatever reason, he just can’t be right, please suggest a sample size that would satisfy you. Using market trends as proof that he’s wrong is sketchy at best.

To clarify, I don’t agree or disagree (or care really). As often as I see this same sort of back and forth about statistics go on, rarely does someone provide the number that they think would satisfactorily provide statistical validity for a conclusion.

Well, in a situation like flipping a coin, 2500 flips is only enough to say that with ~68% confidence that there is no more than a 0.01 margin of error.

You would need 10,000 flips to be 95% confident. And 27,225 flips to be 99.9% confident.

Given that ecto salvage isn’t a direct you get 1 or 0, the numbers would likely change, but I doubt it’s enough for a 99.9% confidence level.

Definitely enough to warrant a post asking if it got changed. The OP shouldn’t have worded it as a certainty, not with his sample size, but the sample size is high enough to warrant asking.

Sounds good! Though now I’m wondering why polling is generally considered solid with around 1500 people responding.

2500 is needed for 68% confidence that the error is not more than 0.01.

Polling typically has a margin of error of 2 or 3. A much larger margin of error. And for polling a margin of error of 2-3 is enough to work with in many cases where the public sees the polls (political polls being one of them).

2500 isn’t really a large sample size. 250,000 maybe, but not 2500. There are 100,000’s of ectos passing through the market every day, and a nerf would be evident in the prices of dust and ectos. Since they haven’t changed I can say with absolute certainty that it has not been nerfed, you just got a bad streak.

The one time there was a bug with ectos it was very quickly reflected in the market price.

Also… kit does not effect the ecto->dust conversion. You wasted a lot of money on kits.

It likely is within the first standard deviation level of confidence that the chances for dust got changed. So about 68%. Not high enough to be absolutely sure, bit high enough it should be double checked.

Though I still don’t think this should be in this section of the forums.

You are part of a guild, and a community, and that server.
Though you may not be looking for it but indirectly you are promoting those.

It’s great that you want to help new players at no costs whatsoever, seriously kudo’s.
But if this is allowed, we can just wait for other players to make similar posts about handing out free stuff to new players. (with hidden intentions to get new recruits etc?)

Am I the only one who feels like this? :P

And why shouldn’t the guild get credit for stepping up and helping new players?

Mentioning server is important. What if the new player is wanting to test the waters of WvW?

And having a link to the guild website is useful. In case they want to know what times would be best to contact the guild to do something. During the weekly WvW romp may not be the time to ask for a dungeon run. That’s not to say that it would be fruitless, but the better shot would be to wait for when the WvW romp was over.

Or if they wanted to check out Guild related events.

And I highly doubt that this guild would have any issue with other guilds offering the same.

Not to mention this way, it keeps the LS accessible no matter how far into the future someone starts it. When we’re playing LS 10, a new player can pay to unlock LS2 and play it and not have to worry about finding a large group of people to do it with.

@Rius.7453 Thanks big time for all the information mate! I do really appreciate it! You said several valid points, and I seriously want to try out the app right now, what I honestly can’t understand is why devs are so quiet about this matter… only thing they need to do is come and say: “hey this program is totally ok, feel free to use it and have fun!” and they would get all the love from the community…. it’s so simple.

The thing is, it opens a can of worms. Or at least it can.

What if Mod Creator A decided to make a mod. He makes a mod that doesn’t alter the game code and it gets approved by ANet. Then Mod Creator A gets sneaky and after it is approved adds in code that does change the game’s code. And gives an advantage.

Let’s face it, how many mod users out there if ANet gave their stamp of approval for it, would actually stop and read exactly what it does or does not do. Or even realize what features would have to alter the game code to work? Then they get banned, but go to CS and say, but you approved the mod I’m using! Why did you ban me for using it?!

Not saying anyone in this thread would fall under that category. But I’ve got a feeling it will be fairly high given the casual nature of this game.

And if they approve one mod, then they have to go and approve or no approve ALL mods for the rest of the life of the game. And they may not have the resources available to do so.

You both right, it does modifies the gameplay experience, though what the mod does is hold right click and that’s pretty much it.. (kinda the same function of macros keys from keyboards and mouses) however, it is an outside / third party executable that is constantly running on the background, messing around with the gameplay itself. On all fairness I doubt it actually gives an advantage over other players, you do have faster response, but you still need to spam the skills correctly for win a battle, either way would be very arguable matter, and would be safe to asume that devs thinks same way, that such feature could make half community happy and other half angry… therefore never implement it. I would be more happy though with devs who actualy have the b4lls for do a move like this one and put this feature into the game for make it more fresh and new then play it safe and stay like it is~

Faster response is an advantage.

If two players have the same DPS ability, then the one who starts first will win if neither player messes up their rotation.

If one is using the Combat Mod and the other is not, that faster response could give them the win. And that’s why ANet may view it as not allowed.

I have a Razer Naga. My response time would be faster because my thumb is constantly on the skill buttons. A 3rd party program, in the form of Razer Synapse, constantly runs in the background “messing” with the gameplay. Should I be banned?

Some people have external gaming keypads that are run and bound with 3rd party software. Should they be banned? Of course not. That would be insanity.

Also, having used this “mod” (using the term incredibly lightly) before, I can tell you it is nearly worthless in PvP and often even a disadvantage. Especially if you have AoE skills. You have much less control than is often needed, sometimes even in PvE. It’s why I quit using it pretty quickly.

It’s not even a mod, as it doesn’t touch the game, it’s files, or it’s code in any way shape or form. It overlays a reticle on your desktop that is placed on the top layer. It then changes your mouse buttons to read as “1” and “2” on the number keys and holds down the right mouse button. Nothing to do with the game, there would be no way to even detect it. It can even run without a game active, if you feel like locking your cursor to the center of the screen without a cause.

Unless Anet is actively monitoring all of our files and processes while GW2 is open, it would never be detected. Not to mention that would make GW2 nearly a virus.

tl;dr
That guy is full of crap, this isn’t a real mod, and it doesn’t give any real advantage over anyone.

Like I said, may view it as an advantage.

I’m not interested in the mod as the controls of the game work just fine for my liking. I’m not to the point skill wise where polished controls will affect how well I play. So I haven’t really researched the mod and how it works.

If it doesn’t touch the code it’s not under the realm of things ANet can control against. Just like they can’t ban for one team using Teamspeak but the other team not in PvP. Teamspeak doesn’t touch the code of the game. Yet it does give an advantage.

Which is why things like the Razer Naga (of which I own one and use) are not bannable. Because it doesn’t touch the game’s code.

But previous posters implied that it did alter the code of the game. Meaning ANet would have every right to ban for using it since it does give an advantage.

Personally, I don’t see how it can alter keybinds of the game quickly without altering the game code. So if you know how it does that, please say so.

That can give an advantage in PvP. And ANet’s biggest test to see if it’s worth trying to figure out if someone is using a 3rd party program after being reported for such is: does it give an advantage over other players.

Usage of any mod except for musical macros outside of bell choir is at your own risk. Because all it has to do is meet ANet’s definition of advantage. Not yours. Not mine. Not the mod’s creator’s.

I mean like Ranked queue, whether that be group / solo. I understand where you are coming from but you cant seriously put a ceiling on your self by saying you will never be among the best.

Yes, you can.

I know I will never be. In PvE, WvW, or PvP. I can’t remember a rotation that I have to do on a character, much less more than one. I don’t have the hand/eye coordination/reflexes/skill to move about the map. I tend to be like a tree. And I know myself well enough that it’s not going to change. Not until ANet makes it very very very very very painful to be a tree. And that chance is very very very low given the general direction they tend to go with on updating the game. Casual friendly. It would have to not be casual friendly to break my habit.

Plus, the plateau does mean that I will always be able to find myself a challenge.

I don’t PvP because I’m not very competitive. And I tend to lose when I do participate in anything PvP related (WvW). Even in other games. I don’t find the mode attractive. And nothing ANet does will ever change that. I may participate in it if ANet ever rewards something highly attractive for PvE in PvP, but I won’t like it. Like precursor level attractive.

I think it would be easier to ask for a trial version like most MMO’s do. Make it so they can’t use the trading post, send mail, have a level cap and a restraint so they can’t leave the starter map. (Tho I think Lv.15 is A LOT of levels for a trial account) For Guild Wars 2 The sweet spot for a level cap would be 5 to 7 or even 8. But there has been posts before talking about a trial account.

They’d reach the level cap pretty quickly due to the NPE changes. So I don’t think having the max level be the upper limit of the starter maps would be an issue.

I’d say trial account as well.

Let them have the full customization. This game is all about the customization. It would hurt the game if they took that away from the trial accounts.

For the female not Charr or Asura, their outfits tend to be unisex and tend to prefer more masculine type outfits.

For your male noble, the humans have a back story option (chosen during character creation) of being a noble.

As for your assassin, I haven’t played Assassin’s Creed nor played every class in GW2 so I can’t really answer that one.

Anyway . . . I’d like to see an expansion, but I’m not counting my chickens before they hatch either.

And I meant what I said about some people never being happy. The proof is in the above postings.

I’m not going back and forth on a point where someone called themselves out when all they had to do was keep quiet and look wise instead. I’d rather be playing the game, than proving a point about measuring quantity of content, thank you.

Now excuse me while I play that new content that apparently isn’t huge either.

Dear lord you like to assume things.

Did I ever say I was unhappy with the amount of content released? Nope. Didn’t say I was happy either. But you just assumed that because I didn’t say I was happy that I was unhappy.

Just because the content released has not be a huge amount doesn’t mean I’m not happy with it. Just that do need to add a lot more truly new permanent content to the game to attract the veterans who left due to boredom back and to retain new players.

But you can’t really claim that we’ve had an expansion’s worth of new content added in either. Whether or not someone needs expansion level content added to the game every 6 months or so to be happy with a game is personal opinion.

I personally don’t need a lot of content to be happy since I jump from game to game. Unfortunately one of my breaks from the game came during LS1 so I missed a lot of that content. Oh well. My fault for not logging in. I’m glad that they made LS2 where it could be done after they’ve moved focus on. Not too thrilled with the pay if you aren’t online solution, but it serves a purpose (to try to get people to log in and do the LS episodes as they are released), so it’s not the end of the world.

Increasing the level cap is a deal-breaker for me.
I’m fine with new weapons/classes as long as they are paired with a complete rebalance of all existing weapons and classes.
New races don’t interest me.
New maps are only good if they are designed well (like Silverwastes or Dry Top, we already have plenty of “hurry and level through this area, then never come back” maps).

In this day and age, expansions are no longer needed but instead represent a relic from a bygone period in gaming history. We can continuously add content in a natural expansion of the game without the need for a sudden upending of everything (with a large sticker price).

I disagree with that. Expansions are still a huge part of MMO’s. The living story is interesting but in gw2’s example, it hasn’t proven to even remotely replace an expansion. Look at the games content increase after 2 years and seasons of living story. How much? Through the living story, we only had 2 new maps, 8 story instances, 1 dungeon path, 2 new pvp maps?, 2 new world bosses. I don’t technically consider the beginning of Season 1 to be living story because it was so experimental and was so much more diverse in content compared to the narrowness of season 2. Southsun cove and fractals don’t count because they weren’t added as part of the living story.

However, both Southsun and Fractals are/were considered part of the Living World, which the Living Story is part of, therefore they should/need to be included in your count, just like the LS S1, even if it was only temporary…it was still new content. You can’t change facts to suit your needs, and in this case the facts(and announcements) prove you wrong.

Zaklex is right. You can’t ignore things added due to LS1. Just because it was experimental doesn’t mean it doesn’t count. The first expansion pack was experimental. Should the content added to that game, whatever it was, not be considered new content because expansion packs were experimental at that time?

And let’s give credit, ANet did listen when players asked for permanent content to come from LS seasons. We’ve gotten a lot more permanent content from LS2 than we did from LS1.

Well . . . that didn’t long.

Okay, all the new areas, achievements, bosses, fights, etc. aren’t new content. Got it. And no amount of new permanent content, besides Living Story which is the biggest plot pusher for new content. That doesn’t count either. Got that too.

And forget the gem store content, the seasonal content, Dry Top, Silverwastes, new PvP zones, WvW zones, Edge of the Mists, and the . . . of hell . . . forget all that. Doesn’t count either.

Yep. No new, huge, or permanent content. Yes, understood.

. . .

Like I said before, some people are just never happy.

I never said there was no new content. Please find the comment that says that. I said not a HUGE amount of truly new content. Please read all of what I say before reacting. You obviously skimmed my post as you missed the adjective describing how much new content has been added to the game. You inferred I said none. I said there wasn’t a huge amount of new content. Which is not equal to none the last time I checked.

A few new bosses used new mechanics. Other bosses weren’t completely new.

Two new areas that are relatively small compared to other zones we have.

I can’t speak to PvP as I haven’t played it (lack of interest in it, I can’t think of anything that could push me to try PvP either).

What new WvW zones? If you’re putting EoTM separate, then you can’t claim new WvW zones.

Seasonal content was there pretty quickly, we had Halloween events a month after release. I wouldn’t put Seasonal content in with things that make up or don’t make up expansion level content as they made it pretty clear that it was part of the base game. Seasonal also isn’t permanent content. And I was talking permanent content.

New achievements are part of that not a huge amount of new types of content that I mentioned.

New types of content have been lacking via LS episodes.

New areas to explore, there have been a few, but not enough to really claim expansion level amount. And there haven’t been new areas for characters under level 80 since launch. This would help with the burn out of leveling if there were new areas to explore while leveling.

New classes, new skills, new weapons. We’ve had a few new skills. No new classes or weapons. I’m not talking skins, I’m talking actual weapons.

There just hasn’t been a huge amount of truly new content added to the game. When people only log in long enough to do the LS and the achievements, which for some takes only a day or two at max if even that, then that’s a sign that something majorly new needs to be added.

I know it makes me the odd man out, but I’m quite satisfied with the monthly to bi-weekly updates of new content. No other game I’ve ever played gave me all that, for free, at such a pace without bugs that broke the game, so I kind of don’t get the complaints and demands for an expansion.

But, if one does come out, more power to them. Still, in my gut, I just know it’s not what some people are hoping to hear.

If prior statements last year are any indication . . . but, again, we’ll see in a few days. Either way, I also expect there to be a lot of rage on these forums.

Some people are just never happy.

The Living Story itself is not really a new type of content. It’s just more Personal Story.

And beyond the LS itself there hasn’t really been a huge amount of new permanent content.

My brother hasn’t really played in months. Because there hasn’t been any completely new content in ages. You can catch up on the lore via the Wiki or YouTube most likely.

I’m less concerned about it being an expansion and more concerned about what an expansion might bring to the table.

Let’s say that the level cap goes up. That may or may not be a problem for me, depending on how it’s handled. But I have 23 80s, all in max level gear.

If I have to gear them all up again, that’s not going to be fun.

I don’t think they will ever rise lvl cup because this game isn’t about that.

Pre launch Colin said that he was sure that level cap increase would occur.

They’ll have to execute that coming to the game very well to not alienate the players who gave them the benefit of the doubt when they added ascended.

New level cap would likely mean at least new ascended gear and possibly new legendary weapons. They would have to develop content for the higher levels and higher gear levels. Which would lead to players needing to get new gear for it.

And players could view that as a gear treadmill. And could penalize those who were taking a break potentially.

I dont like the idea of a level cap increase myself, for some of the reasons you mention, but it is something Colin mentioned.

Yea, I’ve heard it mentioned before.

I also wonder if that plan was changed after they saw the reaction players had when Ascended was released.

Why is the launcher for this game so bad?

Windows 7 64 bit.

Same here, and I had no issues, but I downloaded the patch about 6-7 hours before rollover. I don’t think it’s a problem with your computer or OS though. It seems like it’s a problem with Anet’s servers/connection timeout, since changing language seems to re-establish the lost connection.

It is Anet’s problem. Now all it does is lose connection and I have to go into task manager just to get the launcher to close. About to give up and play something on Steam. I’m just upset because they have issues like this every update and they seem to not give one kitten when it comes to fixing it. I reinstalled this game after 2 years and the launcher issues 2 years ago are still issues now.

Why are you assuming that just because you having issues, all others does and it is ANet’s fault? Most people don’t have any issues whatsover. Sometimes the patcher gets overloaded at release-days in which case, the issue gets solved in a matter of 10 minutes.

It’s all perspective good sir.

Then why are you perpetuating it when you know it could be false?

Why not urge ANet to research it more on their end while giving them as many details about your computer and ISP as you can.

And urging other players who have had issues to do the same.

Why perpetuate this blame game that’s not useful to either ANet or you who have issues as it relates to getting the issue fixed?

Another option for quests are the Dynamic events. They pop up from time to time near the Hearts. The Hearts are placed near where Dynamic events pop up.

Some are one event only, others are chains. Stick around and listen to the NPC conversation. A lot of times they will give hints that the event you just completed is part of a chain.

How to get to player to player discussion: Click on Forums or Game Discussion and scroll (or not depending on size of your screen) to where it says Players Helping Players and click on it.

The same way you get into the Guild Wars 2 Discussion sub-forum.

This thread will likely get moved to Players Helping Players as well.

1. What do you mean by quests? ANet doesn’t have quests in the standard sense. If you mean personal story, you get one chapter released every 10 levels starting at level 10. If you mean generic quests, those are the Hearts you see around and they are all available to you when you start. Some may just be out of your level range.

2. I’ve never really felt the need to use an exp booster so I can’t answer this one

3. Never played mesmer, but scroll down to the Mesmer forum and see what the dungeon meta is. That will give you an idea of which is better.

4. Depends on class. The maps are too small with too many waypoints to really warrant mounts. There’s a thread in this section that talks about how people feel about passive speed boosts. You may want to check that thread out. A lot of methods are brought up.

5. I believe you do get more experience if you are grouped up, but you’d have to hunt for a party to level together. Most just level solo or group with friends or guild mates.

There’s not too many ways to really mess up. Repairing your armor is even free, so the only real cost would be the waypoint cost if no one is around to res you.

Elementalist – Not a class Id pick for my forst, since it has soooooo many skills and options to it, all of which you have to master in order to excel at it, but if you like a bit of a challenge, do pick this! Great class, utilising the four elements to deal heavy damage, control the enemies, support the allies, or just run around blank. The downside is, you usually get 1 or 2 hit by enemies if not built properly in PvP and WvW lol, but the beauty of it is in that aswell. That and how fast you can adapt to whatever life throws at you. :P

GW2 is my first MMO. I played warrior mostly during the last beta weekend event (my only one). Probably got to about level 10 or so. I didn’t leave Queensdale (I chose human for my warrior). Got my feet wet with that class.

Launch day comes and I choose Elementalist. Because it was hard. I figured I would learn fewer bad habits and learn mobility more playing on an Elementalist than I would on the Warrior.

And from what I’ve heard NPE does affect what level you get your attunements so it’s not all at once like it was when I started.

If it had been too long, I would have just created a different character and gone back to the ele when I had more skill.

What made you buy gw2?

My brother talked me into taking one of his Beta Weekend Event keys for the last one before they launched.

And it was B2P. I wouldn’t have taken one of his keys if it had been a sub game. Like Mea, I can’t afford monthly fees. Especially for a game I didn’t know I would get long term enjoyment out of. 3 days isn’t enough to determine long term fun.

Managed to get in Shadow Behemoth on a level 10 warrior during the event and got credit for it.

I had fun.

I’m all for rewarding tokens which can be spent on boss specific loot, it’d certainly eliminate the luck factor which needs to go for certain aspects of the game.

I don’t think rewarding players for a loss is ideal though, if you fail the event, I personally don’t think you should get anything.

Make it a daily thing too, otherwise the loot would be far too common from people just hopping maps.

Or at least the reward for failing should be low enough that people would rather the event succeed than fail. Otherwise you’ll end up with the same situation as has happened before: those who want to fail the event vs those who want to succeed the event.

Not rewarding would go against precedent based on every other event out there. Failing does give some form of reward.

Hello, i have a problem, been about 2 months since we initialy reported it, still no reply, we read somewhere it takes time, but now i have come to the forums to complain.
It goes like this:
Me and my friend bought accounts at roughly the same time somewhere after the game launched. We both took a break at some point and i came back and started playing a few months back.
However, his issue is horrible. He used to play, took a break wanted to come back with me, when suddenly we couldn’t rememmber his nickname in the game, okay we found it no problem.
Then we wanted to login, again a problem, the mobile phone which had the app fell from and he tossed it since it was broken and didn’t work anymore. We filed a ticket but its been about 2 weeks now, no reply.
We do have everything needed to prove the account is his, like cd key and name of character etc..
Can we get some help with this please?:/

Well, a ticket number for Michael to look up would be helpful.

Keep in mind he did post a day or so ago that his responses may take some time, even up to Monday of next week (1-19).

It does reference a trademarked or copyrighted name. I doubt ANet would let WoW have an NPC named Rytlock Brimstone. Reference doesn’t mean exact. Copyright/trademark law does to an extent work on an enforce it or lose it.

If you know they ignored someone using it before you did it, and you got sued for it, you could argue that they are enforcing it with bias as they didn’t sue the other person.

And most people refer to Rytlock Brimstone as just Rytlock and a new player may not realize that Rytlock Icestone isn’t the ANet character.

Eh, they took away a feature that was very very popular for no other reason that it was an unintended side effect of the original design. Preeeeeeeeeeeeeetty lame. I’m all for bug fixes, but why fix a bug that doesn’t harm anyone but makes a large amount of people happy? I’d rather they use that debugging resource somewhere else.

But then there is the fact that none of the other legendaries have such a prominent stowed effect like the aura did before it was removed. Why is the pistol that much better than the sceptor that it gets better prestige?

They either had to add to the other legendary weapons or remove from one for consistency.

Then there is the additive effect the special effects of the legendary weapons along with everything else they add that has the special effects. Especially in zerg content which they have been pushing for open world events.

Heya!

1) Am I allowed to possess and use multiple accounts, as long as all of them belong to me?
2) Am I allowed to exchange varying sums of money and/or items between my accounts without getting in danger of looking like a goldseller or something?
3) A friend of mine recently quit playing. Is he allowed to gift his account to me or any other person, as long as no real life money is involved and he will stay away from that account forever? (so no account sharing, more of an inheritance)
4) If not, is he allowed to gift sums of money and/or items to other players, as long as no real life money is involved?
5) Is there a certain amount of gold that is okay to just gift away without getting banned as a goldseller?
6) When my girlfriend moves in and we suddenly share the same IP, is there any chance that one or both of us get banned for some reason?

Just to make sure that my long-loved account won’t get banned in any way. Thanks in advance!

1. Answered.

2. You can. There is the waiting period for new accounts (it does apply to the guild bank as well as the gold sellers figured out that trick). If the account just needs an item or two that’s not soulbound on acquire instead of sending large quantity of gold, you could send over the items. Being active on both accounts would also help (gold sellers typically aren’t involved in things that aren’t directly tied to making money).

3. It is not allowed.

4. He is.

5. No idea what this number would be.

6. Well, considering one person can have multiple accounts, I can’t see why two people living in the same house can’t each have their own account.

My brother and I live in the same house and we both have an account. Last I heard he wasn’t banned (he’s stopped playing at the moment) and based on the knowledge I have, he has been on in the last year.
