It was hardly used because it showed how much hate Thief has when Warrior/Ranger have a 15s icd, Mesmer has kitten icd (now 0. perma quick is balanced), when Engi can get far more value from a utility skill over a trait, and when Guardians had it on 30s (now kitten , oh big deal) in an aoe party friendly manner. Legitimately, this Trait is garbage. Sorry to say. It needs to go icd 30s (and thats being generous) with it working as a trick icd skill for it to be worthwhile. But uh, guys, nerf thief remember? Too op.
staff is so Op I feel like Chuck Norris
It’s not op, its overcompensated. All it has is damage and evades with a few condi disablers. It’s also very, very slow which means against other Thief builds it gets outplayed. Don’t get me wrong, it is strong- but its not as strong as others in different ways. And unfortunately, Staff can’t be buffed anymore. But hey Thief op =P. The new e-specs weapon isn’t op =P, but Thief op.
Edit: Should probably explain. Daggers have high sustainable burst and execution, Pistols have high ranged burst and control, sword has high fight control through roots/boon-steal/stun, and shortbow is shortbow 5.

Unsure if Final Salvo increases Gyro explosion radius or not. If not, I’ma grab the Perfectly Weighted trait. Missing a second sigil and a full third trait line. Yes, in legitimate matches this won’t work. But most people taking elite lines don’t take legitimate builds, so I chose this to counterplay it. Check out how many Berserkers take Defense, Chronomancers take Chaos or Inspiration, or how many Reapers snag Death Magic. =) Just taking advantage of a funny meta.
I guess I’m just stuck figuring out my third line. I’m doing quad gyros and flamethrower with fire arms and scrapper. Static discharge isn’t working (probably because the tool belts don’t target enemy players), what do I take? Trying to maximize damage and lockdown and so far the dump damage is scary, but not terrifying. Was hoping I’d hear it was a bug not intended. What should I take with my build?
But how are they not? Its like saying Elixir Gun 4 and 5 (or Mortar 5) even don’t count as elixirs. They explode when they break.

I like how you missed the reference to the bugged skill not working and the player…never mind. Working as intended =P. I had other Thieves tell me I was hacking for hitting so fast. Unload+PointblankrageFF/ID/DD so good.
No I mean Shortbow 5. Be anywhere, anytime is unbalancable. Its why I’m confused we ever got it. If that gets removed, Thief is not in PvP. I doubt Thief will last long in serious raid groups at its current power level. I have a rework idea, but people will be traumatized from “oh my god, I died once to Thief, it was scary, no buffs” so I’m wondering I should even bother. I personally think I did it well.

Honestly the fact that the community has to KEEP reminding them over and over for 4 months of patches for the simplest thing to be fixed is depressing. I mean…how hard can it be to change one freaking number? seriously an amateur programmer could do this change in a matter of minutes and it can’t be done by an entire team in 4 months? I realize other things like the expansion are going on but this is still very sad to say the least.

Flanking Strike is now two skills. Flanking Strike hits once now, but Larcenous hits once. However FS is 3 and LS is 2, and it used to be 4. Nw, you get your evade still. Oh wait…Ok. FS is 4 and LS is 2. Alright. No? More? Ok. FS only procs LS if it hits a target that is not blocking/evading/blinding/moving-funny. Too much? Ok FS is 4 and LS is 1. Oh but FS isn’t unblockable, yet LS is. K? No? Infiltrator Strike has a cast time. And doesn’t break stun. And LS only takes 1 boon. Better? Too much? Jeez, picky. BOYS PACK IT UP, WE CAN’T NERF IT ENOUGH.
Just roll Sentinel amulet with Mercy Runes and grab Acro/SA/DD for max speed decap+rezbot. Screw +1.

…War may be weak, but not uh…not this weak lol. If I land one good hit, I can usually chain someone dead. Multiple someones if they group. =D Condi Zerker is funny btw. When you play War, think in combos. Not “drop kit drop kit drop kit” but “If I get in melee, and swap to berserk mode I can taunt then bash then grind”. Btw, that combo usually kills guys in condi mode. =)
Not saying War is in a great place, but…its not this bad. Thief is this bad. War is getting there. Best to worst is Guardian>Mesmer>Necromancer>Elementalist>Revenant>Engineer>Ranger>Warrior>>>>Thief. Guard would be behind Revenant, but DH is strong still.

Jeez, that stealth so strong (hides engi, ranger, guardian, warrior (that was fun), Revenant (that was fun too), mesmer and necro). Stealth too strong, nerf Thief Stealth.
Also, Thief has stealth only skills. Remove them. And the dual skills. I’m tired of the 3 spam.

Edit: What do we get nerfed next? I mean all it takes is making Preparedness baseline and increasing our health pool to medium to make enormous strides to making us worthwhile again but keep the high skill caparino. I can’t think of what they nerf next. Headshot doesn’t daze anymore, just weakens?

If you’re specced in to trickery daze on steal is solid for any build. When fighting mordrem you have a good chance to also get a branch as the stolen item, which you can follow up the steal with.
Also, the new daredevil elite is better than BV at smashing break bars, even if you don’t have any traits invested in physicals given the daze>launch in its first two attacks, which is two hard CCs with no cast time compared to BV’s one CC with a cast time if you haven’t traited for venoms.
Other way. You cast once, BV is set. You cast twice (in melee range) and you get TD. Also (some kind of bug) but BV takes more of a breakbar per hit than TD. Just a thought.
Break bars deplete from these (though effectiveness changes based on mob scale, for instance vet+ doesn’t break to damage):

All forms of stun.
I’d suggest Pistol/Pistol as its easier with Bandits Defense, Scorpion Wire and either Distracting/Impairing/Tripwire. Probably basilisk, the new elite is for pvp.
Thief is incredibly difficult right now, nerfed too hard (with no end in sight. guildies taking bets on what they nerf tomorrow =P) but the best vanilla build is meta battle or stealth rezzer (mercy runes, sentinel ammy). The best DD is up to question, but if I fight someone who is pretty bad I can beat em up. If they are half decent, I’m dead.
No man, keep nerfing Thief. These nerfs totally don’t affect pve. Nah man, its fine, nerf a class so hard it can’t even pve. =) Comon anet, you know you wanna.

This might not be the “correct” place to put this, but it needs to be somewhere for reference:
All of the elite specs are made to play Rock>Paper>Scissors on each other.
Dragonhunter has to place traps as the longbow damage is highly choreographed (er, video games, telegraphed). Scrapper has an evade and block, as well as a reflect. With that much utility, you just need raw sustained damage to break it- hence Reaper. Reaper hits hard (a bit slow) and lasts long (still slow). To kite the Reaper you need Chronomancer. No need to explain. However, Chrono needs to be aoe’d- Tempest has large zone control. Tempest won’t be strong close…etc…etc…etc. I’d explain more, but I’m sure someone will try to poke holes. Anywho, my 2 cents. =)

I’m thinking of going Staff- Pistol/Dagger with Dash though because of the sheer value in Dash compared to the other 2…
I just laugh. I love people getting super angry over a video game. Especially unranked/hotjoin- juicy stuff. However, if I’m in a less agreeable mood, I cope with the rage by spending my whole game hunting them down mercilessly and camping them wherever they go. Oh and asking teammates to call them out when they see em- yay for premades =D.
Pistol/Dagger works really well on melee and Staff works great on ranged. Also, at least two lines defensively (trickery counts as 1, think of making at least some of DD defensive) and then grabbing offensive utilities (and Dagger Storm) works pretty well.
=/ So I wasn’t alone. I still use it because on the off chance it hits, its devastating. But anything past 450-500 range will rarely hit if the target is moving.
I’ve been using this skill exclusively because when (and oh so rarely is it when) it connects at least the slow dagger or the immob dagger, I can catch my target. Most of the time though, it veers off so far from my target I wonder where it was aimed at. Other times (at point blank range too =/ I hate you Niflhel/Skyhammer/Foefire) it will get obstructed from 150-200 range away with nothing in between us. So the payoff is that this skill is enormously powerful. The drawback is that it almost NEVER lands. Rather depressing, but still worth keeping in case it does hit through sheer, dumb luck. =( It’s my favorite skill. Gotta swap it for Scorpion Wire sometimes (which is even more unreliable….) and then probably put Distracting in which doesn’t work within my build that well =/. Anyone else running into this issue, or am I just really bad at throwing this thing competently?
Edit:This is PvP related. It almost always land in PvE, but something keeps happening and I’m not sure what to cause it to miss often… Also, I should probably point out that the obstructed happens more often when someone jumps after I throw (.-.) or when I throw em-they land (obviously)-then the person jukes behind some random wall or other person causing it to obstruct or hit someone else. And by “land” I mean its touching the character models head/chest/legs/w-e.

There are other cookies, but this is to show you that things changed considerably, and we haven’t changed nearly as much. What actually happened is all the other classes have enjoyed massive power creep. Food for thought, right?

There are 3 versions of amulets: 3 stats, 4 stats, and celestial amulet.
1200/900/900- Berserker, Assassin, Rampager, Carrion, Rabid, Settler, Cleric, Valkyrie, Knight, Barbarian, Cavalier, Sentinel, Soldier, Magi, and Sinister. As you can see, this is the MAJORITY. A total of 3000 stat points.
1050/1050/560/560- Wanderer, Viper, Marauder, Vigilant, and Crusader. This is the Minority of amulets. A total of 3220 stat points.
560/560/560/560/560/560/560- Celestial, the Lone Wolf amulet. A stat point total of 3920.
From this alone, we see massive amounts of disparity and why some amulets are better than others. This is not a nerf Celestial thread by intention, but a necessity by design. Celestial has 920 more than the majority, and 700 more than the minority. It is inherently toxic to the game simply because IF your build works with celestial (usually via boon stacking), your build will be broken strong. Period, no discussion. No middle ground. My suggestion is to put all amulet totals INTO the 3220 category. It makes far more sense to buff the majority and nerf the solo (in my opinion) as a middle ground is already present. How does this work?
3220-3000=220 extra points into a 1200/900/900 (3 stats) combo. Roughly 73 points extra per stat creating a 1273/973/973. It looks odd, but as a pure balance concept it is correct.
Now to bring celestial to the rest of the amulets:
3920-3220=700 points to lose over 7 stat selections, meaning 100 loss per. Creates 460/460/460/460/460/460/460.
Thoughts? I am just tired of being forced to select marauder because I lose out when I swap to zerker or assassin, and tired of celestial builds being so inherently powerful (made cele reaper, scrapper, tempest, druid, etc (all elites minus Daredevil)). These balance suggestions mean each amulet is balanced and you pick to compliment your build instead of “oh if I have less stats to select, I lose stat points. less points means less power, better pick a 4 or cele”. Just my opinion, but again I’d love a suggestion or discussion. I doubt anet will do anything =( I wish they would, its pretty obvious when you put this all on paper side by side. Unlike traits/runes/sigils, the power is simply in allocation over effect, meaning discussion IS number based. Anywho, sorry for the wall.
