Active challenges in GW2 and in Wildstar

Wildstar has a horrible tutorial area for both factions. They are boring. What does gw2 do? Through you into the middle of a battle, shoves a weapon into your hand and says ‘see those bad guys? Kill em!’.

Wildstar I’m filling out a questionnaire asking how much i drink then shoving a prop item into my hand, telling me to interrogate some people then press a button.

Yeah, that’s dominion, and exile is the same with the whole ‘help me find my wife!’ walk five feet we’ve found her! Press a button!

Throw me into the middle of a fight any day.

Gw2 most grindy game ever..?

I quit playing around when ascended items were announced. Just came here to see if they gave up on the idea of a long grind for stat advantages rather than cosmetics.

Guess I still will not be rejoining this game.

If you’re going to put in stat advantage grinds, go all the way and make the grind feel rewarding as other successful games have. This kitten long grind for minor upgrades stuff is terrible.

They lessened the grind a bit but placed it into RNG as a reward for doing higher level fractals. I believe it starts at 10+ a chance for armor and weapons now.

Gw2 most grindy game ever..?

Maybe it would help if you define grind in stead of saying everything was a grind in those games. Anyway, I am talking about the current or even my definition of grind. And then there is to much gold gold gold.. grind.

I like to play for the items, not get gold to buy them. It is that simple.

Take the ‘grind’ that you feel exists for gold in GW2, and apply that same experience/feeling to just about every aspect of the game…..crafting, special abilities, gear, levels, regrind due to death and loss of items/coin, massive, time consuming missions for higher end abilities and trinkets, etc…..

I am not saying take your definition of the word grind……am saying to take how you feel about ‘grinding’ gold in this game and apply that same feeling/experience to all the above. It might be interesting and tolerable for the first character, but then new content has been added by then that just increases that grind, and then it just all starts to blur and become more of a dull job interspersed with some real fun and enjoyment, despite the horrid time sinks. (“Count me out for anything tonight, as we have been planning this mission for such and such ability/trinket/1 part of a several part upper level conquest for several weeks, so I will be on my computer for the next 6 hours after work”)

I guess that is the best way I can come somewhat close to getting you to understand how those older mmos were when it came to grind.

And don’t get me wrong…..they were fun….and addictive…..because that is all there was then….and most mmo players were used to it……and a lot of us were a lot younger then….

But if I were to now install one of those older games, jump on my computer and play it, after having played GW2……..I would either be insane and/or would have completely destroyed my computer within 2 weeks of playing that old time sink.

The feeling that you always have to grind gold for everything in stead of working towards the thinks them self. The don’t really fit on most of your examples? You do boring task to earn gold to buy your levels?

Sorry still can’t see what else it is then you mean it’s hard and define that as grind. And I don’t mind it is hard, I do dislike how many games did get dumbed down mainly because of consoles. Just did not play many MMORPG’s back in the day. What did you do to get the gear or example that you consider a grind?

I consider it a grind when I have to do go get money, to then buy the gear or skins to be more exact as I prefer skins over stats.

And still, the fact that those games where maybe worse does not mean there is no grind in GW2. Just put the dame items in the game behind specific content in stead of all general drops and cash-shop stuff.

Gone is the gold-grind. But they want gold-grind. It means more gem-sales. I did go for a B2P game in stead of a F2P game to avoid exactly thee sorts of things.

So….killing the same i monster over and over for gold is a grind.
Killing the same monster over and over, hoping for a possible rare drop, for a specific quest for a rare item, isnt a grind its working towards a goal.

-huge grind in “no grind game” even koreans (decent) mmos arent that grindy.

You must’ve been playing something else than a Korean mmo.

Least in gw2 the grind is optional, Korean its mandatory.

Thats not an exccontent ‘s a game so it’s completely optional just as the Korean games.

You probably refer to stats grind vs cosmetics but maybe I don’t care so much about stats and more about cosmetics (especially since this game is so much based on cosmetics).

Yes, only the cosmetics are a grind. But not the game play, zones, etc. You are not locked out from any of it at 80 (cept high lv fractals). And somehow I see that’s whAt a net meant by ‘no grind’. No grinding through dungeons to get the proper gear to grind through raids, to constantly grind through raid bosses to get the gear to beat the final boss, then see the ending cutscene or something. That was WoW and people kittened so much that eventually LFR came out, because people didn’t care for the challenge or grind, they just wanted to experience the content.

Hence gw2. Easy to get max gear (excluding ascended). And not locked out from content. But I you want a look to stand out? Grind baby grind.

The CDI initiative appears kaput, and the four or five feedback threads on feature patch features haven’t garnered a single substantive response.

I don’t think it’s adequate to say ’We’re reading what you post’ if they fail to actually respond to concerns raised.

Comes a point where I need to know what’s coming up or what Arenanet developers actually think about the feedback being offered in order to have ‘faith’ in where they’re setting their development in future.

I mean, take the feature patch – some of those features could’ve been improved significantly if we’d had the opportunity to offer feedback in advance; ie, before they were baked and almost ready to be rolled out. But that’s rather typical of arenanet’s community-communications style: they work on what they got and put it out, THEN get surprised by feedback.

Most other industries seek customer feedback in a multistage iterative process during product creation, and it only makes sense. Even in MMOland, look at Blizzard – discussing the upcoming expansion in detail a year or more out from release.

Even in the CDI threads, developer commentary basically amounted to ‘Yeah, we read that. It’s interesting’.

I hate to say it; we need a ‘Ghostcrawler’.

Ghostcrawler is no longer at Blizzard. He is Lead at Riot now.

I think im having the same issues others are having (unless bugged).

I participated in the centaur camp event, took kingsgate, defended it, and waited, and waited…

People didnt know if it was bugged or not. I had thought i could get a fast world boss in before work, looks like not.

For a new player, thos would seem disheartening. A whole buildup, to just stand and wait.

If this was a bug, it needs fixed. If this was a feature, it needs modified.

Frost gorge train ruined

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

The champ train wasn’t even that profitable. If you want to complain about inflation complain about dungeon paths that give 1-3 gold + champ boxes to 5 people and can be cleared in 10-30 minutes.

That is playing the game as Intended. The Champion Train is not.

I’m pretty sure it was intended, why else did they add champ boxes in the first place? I didn’t do frostgorge because it was the most boring thing ever, but why take it away from the people who liked it? “inflation” is not a good reason because champ boxes don’t even give gold anymore.

They added champ bags because before hand, champs would drop between no to green loot, but most of the time grays. So people litterally didnt bother with champ events at all. Then they buffed their loot, slightly buffed it again, then added the ascended stuff….and people realized ‘hey, we can form trains for this and farm’. So no, it wasnt intended. Players wanted a reason to kill champs, they got it, and then players proceeded to abuse it.

This is just a heads up for what may occur during everyone downloading and logging on. Though most likely this post will be ignore and not read, at least i tried.

1. Good chance for lag – everyone will be logging on and off characters to get all their skins added. This will be a massive transfer of data occuring to the servers. Anyone who played WoW when achievements were first implamented know what I am talking about. Lag city. Gw2 may not have it, but expect it.

2. I WOULDNT DELETE SKINS RIGHT AWAY – I only say this as a precautionary gesture, cause again, massive transfer of data, more than the account wallet did. I would wait mayb one more day after patch before clearing, or go through the wardrobe to assure everything is there.

3. Any free stuff you receive may take time – dyes, free chqrges, etc, may not appear right away. Keep calm and pet a quaggan, again, massive amounts of data is going to be proceesed, they may have to do what they did during the karka event.

Ok, so people who have two legendary duplicates are mad because….they have 2 now of the same skin? An item that can swap stats at any time out of combat to be compatiable with your new build, and you are complaining?

Now, if all the stat combos arent attached to that dropdown menu, you should be arguing for that instead. But instead, you are arguing for a skin. You transmute that skin onto an item with different stats, and that’s why you are mad.

You’re arguement shouldnt be “we have duplicate skins, give us refunds.” It should be “add ALL the current stat combos to legendaries!”

I’ll be happy when all the sigils are added too. Until then I’d like to see compensation as an option. Right now it is cheaper and more functional to make ascended weapons with unique sigils if you want stat swapping on the fly. Better to not have to destroy expensive sigils each time you swap gear and build.

But since you made the money to get the legendary in the first place, wouldnt the money for a sigil be pennies in comparison and easy to get?

Imagine I want to switch between power and condi with my swords. Lets see I like fire and force on my swords for power and agony and torment for my condi.
That’s about 5-6 gold in sigils per weapon swap. If I swap 4 times a day which isn’t uncommon going between wvw and pve. Then I pay 20-24 gold a day on sigils a day just to use those amazing stat swapping legendaries to the same function as some ascended weapons. In a month that would be 600-720 gold. Wow, I could get another precursor!

so 4 sigils make or break you in pve / wvw? I can understand the wvw part, but then why not take the hit for pve and just say “screw it, i’ll use my wvw sigils for pve, I’ll be going back to wvw anyway, so I’ll save money”

Basically, do ebents, find events going on and participate. Explore, look at vistas, etc. It all gives xp. Do the hearts in between as their xp will only get you so far.

Runes and account bound armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

I think i can theoretically answer this if you think about it. The sanctuary one is soulbound on aquire. So, once you receive it, its stuck to you. Now, ascended armor is account bound, which i assume trumps anything that is put in it. So if you have that rune in your armor, the armor is still transferable. HOWEVER, if you remove said rune by salvage or the extractor, it will once again bind to the character that removed it (soulbound on aquire).

Really, you should go to the forums suggested and ask the question ‘is soul bound on aquire going away on runes and sigils?’

Balance Patches, gear and consequences

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

I’m just confused if people haven’t played any other mmo before gw2. This happens all the time in other mmos. WoW did it plenty of times every three months. They change the function of one ability, or reduce the coefficient of something, and everyone would have to rebalance gear.

Blizzard: We increased the requirement for hit rating on a boss.

Players: Nooo! Now we need to go through the whole data base once more, min/max our gear, modify enchants, modify gems, and run dps tests on dummies! I’ve waisted all my points too for our loot system! Well, lets get it over with…

This is nothing new. This will continue to happen over the course of the game. This happens in all mmos. I don’t understand the outrage of it. Is it because you spent time on ascended gear? Ok, I know that feeling when I lost pieces of gear in raids to members that didn’t need it. Then I had to wait for rng again to work in my favor, then hope nobody else would take it, and if either one of those happened, I had to wait a whole week again to restart the process.

I didn’t get overly excited when ascended gear was introduced, I honestly didn’t care. I am fine with exotic. I could probably have multiple sets of ascended by now since I run dungeons and fractals. I understand the whole “I must min/max my character to be the best!”, until I realized…“wait…am I having fun? Do I need this gear asap? Is it stopping me from playing the game?” No? Then i’m fine. I just finally realized they are just pixals, its not life and death or something to foam at the mouth over

19 months too late for fixing core systems...

I always wonder at these posts. Before hand, people wanted to preview on the TP. We got it. We wanted loot fixed at the november patch (albeit it took a long time), we got it. Removed culling to get rid of invisible zergs, got it. An account wallet so you dont have to keep going between characters for money, got it. Players wanted this, and they delivered. Was it right away? NO. But I rather wait to see it working with the fewest possible bugs (imagine if the wallet would delete currency by mistake?), then coming out completely broken.

Now whats coming out? WvW Xp account wide, which people wanted. Wardrobe system, got it. Free trait resets and new traits to go out and hunt like in the skill capture from gw1 (which people wanted to bring back). AND with that, there was a post that with the free trait reset, its one step closer to templates (i believe there was a dev post pointing that out).

When implementing a new system or revamping an old, it isn’t just “do it and its fixed.” Its a cause and effect system. If it changes one thing, how does it effect the next, and if the next changes, how does it effect another?

Now imagine that except instead of a straight line, its all in branches. One thing may effect three things, which in turn, each effect another three, and so on, or more. This is why revamping or adding new systems can’t ‘just happen’.

If people paid attention or read the CDI, you would see the questions of “how do you all think it will effect X?” happen a lot.

While we are excited over Scarlet’s death, we are overlooking something that still nags at the back of my mind.

Scarlet saw something in the eternal alchemy, something or someone, and it corrupted her, began to overtake her mind. We saw and heard this in the journal and even over our encounters (the change in tone and voice).

From what we know, the dragons can’t corrupt the Sylvari. So a dragon isn’t responsible for it.

We killed the puppet, but the puppeteer is still out there. They know about the dragons, and how to awaken them. I have a feeling this won’t be the last we see of someone going off the deep end.

Or she was just overloaded with information that she snapped. Who knows?

Now, if you go into the whole, ‘well, they need a sylvaria!’ I would disagree. When writing, sometimes planned out ideas just don’t work out as you intended. We may not get a sylvari in this new Destiny’s Edge at all. It could have been planned, but it may not have worked out that way. Kasmeer – following along with Marjory (basically Snaff being the mentor to Zojja)

Caithe…has no one. None that we know. Hence I believe the player is the 6th. And if anything, I rather keep it that way XD

Will we be able to put exotic sigils and runes in the mystic forge?

Will there be an exodus with the update?

Im excited about allll updates, only downside i might see is that if somebody has 2 legendary weapons, or bought the same armor skin for 800 gems just for their different chars. But what the hell else is there to complain lol.

This is going to happen to me, but i’m not going to quit over it. If anything, I have left over pieces just sitting in my bank gathering dust.

If anything, all I ask for is getting transmutation charges for them, thats all.

1. (I assume no for this already) Having bought multiple sets of same armor, primal, and not having used them yet, will the unused ones give a free transmutation charge?

2. With unidentified dyes no dropping, how will this effect the Gift you jeed for a legendary?

Can we get duel spec as well?

Yeah, i see templates and zaves down the line, but not yet. I feel they want to take baby steps first, to be sure they dont break the trait system first. (Then maybe the legendary 30/30/30/30/30 warrior will truely appear!)
