I’m kind of torn about this update.

On one hand, its kind of a neat idea to give achievements for groups of collectables, and its also kind of a neat idea to give other unique skins for such.

However, depending on the groupings of these things, some of these are going to be insane to get. Heck, the one they showcased in the blog itself, the spirit weapon crafter… that’s thousands of gold right there, if its what I think it is (craft all the weapons which have the spirit weapon skins… Azureflame and the like). Which… I mean, I guess its a way to have “prestige skins” and I know plenty of people love those, but personally, I dread the day the patch goes live and I find an amazing skin locked behind such an insurmountable (for me, anyway) wall.

yes….they will take awhile to get, so its a LONG TERM GOAL. Which this game needs a lot of instead of just the legendary weapons

When I first played, and my character hit zero hp, I just thought it was over. Then I saw this “wait, I’m not dead?” Thing going on, and I started spamming buttons, and I didn’t know what the abilities did.

I wouldnt say I was scared, I think they used the wrong word there, but more surprised as I had never seen a feature like this before.

Quote from the very first post in this thread (emphasis mine):

I think that what everyone is Really looking for is either an Expansion or/ and some actual end game content like Rides, bosses etc for veteran – non pvp – players to do.

So yes, the OP is indeed claiming to speak for “everyone”.

The ‘I think’ part is what people use as a fallback measure for when people disagree show up. In other words, he already knew saying ‘everyone’ was wrong, but held on to the tiny sliver that nothing but people agreeing with him will post, thus making him right. He could’ve said ‘what I really want’ but instead felt the need to elevate himself.

All we really want is actual EndGame content.

I subscribe to this. Also, and because there will be always someone that is going to say so, artifical difficulty is not difficulty. Soloing Dungeons is not difficulty it’s an artificial challenge, this is not 1980 where you would sit on your couch playing Odyssey creating your own challenges.

Seriously, I stopped playing about 8 months ago and i am still checking every update email hoping that there will be some EndGame content released for veterans that does not involve WvW or pointless Living Stories so I can come back and play.

What is going on? what is the point of bringing new players if the old ones are leaving? =\
Besides making all my characters look kitten, I have no point of actually playing the game anymore. I have all the characters with maxed out armor, and now there is simply nothing else to do.

I think that what everyone is Really looking for is either an Expansion or/ and some actual end game content like Rides, bosses etc for veteran – non pvp – players to do.

Seriously, think about it. That’s probably the only thing that keeps WOW alive today so you can’t say that it’s not worth it or that people don’t like it.

Problem with title and statement. You say ‘everyone’, I never once said I wanted this, thus everyone doesn’t work. People need to stop trying to speak for the masses and just say what they want. If others agree, they’ll post too.

I also think that people should start reading the things right instead of coming up with random words. He said “we”, and “we” does not mean ‘everyone’, in fact the only time he referenced ‘everyone’ is when he said: “I THINK…” so, yeah.

So when he says ‘we’, he’s speaking for….?

All we really want is actual EndGame content.

Karma should be more dominant as a currency.

Basically, I only see karma having 3 uses atm.

1. Gearing up alts with temple gear. (useful till out of alts)
2. Buying the random boxes for lodestones, since anything else in it is pointless. (RNG)
3. Buying level 80 greens and putting in the forge. (RNG)

You can spend on the ascended crafting stuff, but you get that easily from dry top now.

If anything, just convert a large amount of it to another form of currency like laurals, then we can at least buy dyes or something for it.

Game Dev abusing power? Any way to report it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Serophous.9085

Can there be abuse of power inside a system, yes. Is it a company’s fault as a whole? Not exactly. Don’t blame the whole thing for a few bad eggs.

But there are a few holes in the whole accusation. He DC’d. He said it, thats all we have to go off of. I can say a rep did a lot of things to abuse power and post a screen shot of a dev in a pic. I mean, i can say I was DC’d 5 times before the mean rep would let me play again.

When you go into a case like this, you need to do examine all aspects and history in the conversation and account control. as the public, we won’t have access to chat history or anything like that.

Which brings me to the point of all of this. What was the point in posting this here? The first thing that shouldve been done was go to support. The forums would do nothing for it, and in all honesty there are more important threads out there that Devs (not reps) should be focusing on in the game. This shouldve just went straight to support.

I agree to be able to see the progress. Or if not crossed off replaced with new ideas.

Even better, have an UPDATE under it, like if the topic has been initially addressed, but a new issue arose or something even more specific.

Example: new spvp map

1. Anet Chooses

I also agree that we find some kind of alternative method of conducting the CDI outside of the forums. Surely there must be some other platform either available now or could be created that would lend to more focused discussion.

If its to be player run and revs want to remain anonymous to listen in, probably a chatroom could do it. Though that could get loud really fast and discussion lost. Other option is fan site forum like gw2guru

#1, simply for the sake of getting on with it.

If we choose #2, then it is going to take months before actual discussion on an agreed upon topic occurs.

While I’m trying to not make this thread a debate to win others over, this was also my reasoning. We would waste time and days to narrow down and finally pick a topic to discuss before actually discussing.

Edit: an effort of trust needs to be reformed between the community and devs. Chris is bring back CDIs, trusting us to give proper feed back, the least we can do is trust them to pick proper subjects.

I know I’m jumping ahead, but I want to at least make a recommendation on topics for the CDIs. I know the devs can choose the categories, so its food for thought (in Chris’s situation, coffee :p).

1. The first CDIs should be on the previous features, the mega server, trait finding, wardrobe (gonna be honest, wardrobe just needs some bug fixing. Stop asking me to spend 0 charges for dying armor! XD).

2. Second set of CDIs should be with the communication and new ideas, features, etc CDIs.

3. The new feature pack CDIs. I say these third because there should be a period of time it comes out that we as players (and devs) see how it works, and test it for ourselves. Then a proper discussion can insue.

Sigh, I hate typing up a long post for discussion on a phone, only to lose it cause of connection….

Short version:
1. The policy needs a review, not a complete overhaul, but loosening of the rules about talking.

2. Instead of a state of the game, perhaps something like ‘coffee with the devs’, where its a post about what the majority of devs are talking about related to the game, or perhaps ideas that are floated about (note, not an actual feature coming, just talk).

3. For community, we need to be more respectful to devs that post, and not berate them. Politely disagree and counter argue, but don’t bite their heads off.

4. Also for community, need to police our own, drown out the trolls. Don’t become white knights (the devs are human and make mistakes, and defending every decision when one is flawed puts egg on your face), but rather if someone is stating false info or starting a rumor, call them out for it, not because its attacking anet, but for the simple reason they are wrong.

I don’t want to want to derail the thread, but yes absolutely we have discussed player feedback about these areas of the game.

This right here is the start players have been asking for. I’m not going to say something like this is a perfect answer, because it still leaves the who, the when, and the how completely ambiguous, but it’s at least a confirmation that ‘yes, we’ve seen it’.

As a roleplayer you have no idea what an absolute sigh of relief it is to hear it’s been discussed. For that area, and many others, it would be a much greater relief if someone came in an talked explicitly about the discussions, but as a start, just being acknowledged is so much a step beyond the silence.

Hi,

We read many forums all the time, we just need to do a better job of communicating that and working to discuss topics.

In retrospect the CDI break has probably been to long as well (That’s my fault).

Ooh, CDI returning? Exciting!

I never really participated in them before but I am pretty keen to talk about fractals now that I finally feel I am in a position to actually have some meaningful input.

Don’t make the same mistake I did last cdi. ‘Oh, I don’t really do that in the game, or haven’t started.’ Post ideas or assist on what would help you get INTO said portion of the game. Example: ‘I want to do fractals, but I don’t quite understand what I am doing when I enter. Maybe have an asura near the entrance explain some basics for me?’.

Stuff like that.

I too am hoping for the CDIs return, because it DID make us feel more part of the game. And while some cdi stuff came to pass, now that we see it in action, as a community we can help make it better.

I know you have designs set in place and policy, but remember we are here to give you FREE advice! In, the form of feedback, yes, but it feels when we do that, we are talking to air. If anything, if you guys see a good feedback or idea thread, you don’t have to come in and say ‘we are listening’. No, just come in and ask a question of the idea or give YOUR feedback on it, so the conversation doesn’t seem one sided or the community starts to chomp at itself.

That’s really all I’m asking for at least.

I don’t need it to be super specific either. Just descriptive enough for the imagination without revealing too much.

Some examples:
“We’re currently working on new rewards in PvP because we want to increase the variety of unique rewards available in that game mode.”
or
“We’re currently working on reviewing dungeons rewards because we want to ensure that rewards line up with average time investment.”

Two things. That’s all I need:
*The area they’re working on
*What their general hope is in improving that area

So something like : " we work on a precursor hunt"

You know how that turned out .. didn’t you ?

While yes, the community when ballistic and spat venom and shouted “broken promise”, the fact remains they came out and said " we are going to work on a precursor scavenger hunt, and at the bottom they said ‘subject to change’. And then they came out and said, “it didn’t work as we thought, so its on the back burner till we can figure something out”.

And despite the backlash, they at least TALKED to us and told us where they were at. But the forums through a fit.

And even with the commander tag change, they came out and said ‘yeH, we heard your feedback, and it convinced us to change our minds, so we did.". What started to happen? ’this was stunt.’ ‘It was a fake leak earlier.’ And other conspiracy theories.

I mean, you can believe what you want on that issue, but it shows that even if anet even tries to make a change, or revert something in an post a few days later to please the community, they are still skeward.

So really, ask yourselves, even if they start talking again, would it do anything since when we get something we want, we still lash out in anger?

They have publically announced the prices.

Totally ignoring us – I am sad to say that after thousands of responses, reasoning and even begging, we lose as a community and as a gaming family.

Arenanet isn’t here for us – they are here to make moneywalls out of our own suggestions.

I will gladly pay 300g for an account unlock for ALL my characters, than just one. I specialized my characters differently; defenders, attackers, supply runners, etc. Now I don’t have to spend more gold for one character to have the defender tag, more gold for one to be the assaulter, etc. One price, full account unlock.

300 gold per level.

If you need to get there, that’s 900 gold.

What do u mean by “300g per level”? They changed their minds, it’s 300g total for all colors, accbound.

You didn’t post my edit.

I still see nothing about “per level”. 300g, commander unlocked for account. People already who have it grandfathered in. Sounds fine to me.

in the economy now, 100g isnt a lot. It looks and sounds like a lot to those who only play for an hour or two a day, but those people shouldn’t be worried about commanding then in WvW. If it was left, eventually we could end up with “Too many chiefs, not enough indians” scenario.

Inb4 this was a calculated ‘leak’ so they can then ‘generously’ change the decision to show how ‘in touch’ they are with WvW players.

Say what

I’m just going to squash this rumor right now. Before the strong negative feedback received after the interview at gamescom, every intention was for each color to cost 300g. Pending QA, that version was ready to ship for the feature pack.

When the flood of feedback came in, there was a flurry of emails working out the best course of action, and in the end Zach and Tyler worked the weekend to make sure this change could be made on time for 9/9.

Thanks Mark. We NEED more posts like this so squash rumors and keep the community informed.

It sounds like a complete 180 degree shift from what was said in all interviews at GamesCom. Either this page is wrong or they changed their minds in response to player feedback (I am hopeful for this one).

Kinda makes me think on something…

If a dev says something in an interview and players like it, but devs fail to follow through, its a broken promise.

If a dev says something in an interview and players hate it, but devs fail to follow through, its a change in heart and/or they listened to player feedback.

Reasons for wanting First Person

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

I don’t think that reason justifies the need for a first person view. If anything, the game is meant to be played in the third-person.

I agree I think dodging in FPV would be terrible… also first person really does make it more difficult to know where you can dodge to…

and Im pretty sure jumping puzzles would be down right impossible while in first person view.

you say you want first person view to take better pictures… I want it to walk around in an 3d environment either way neither reason actually improves the quality of game but instead gives us something fun to play with.

That would be also good for making basic machinima as well. Guild Wars has some pretty set-pieces that can be good for making simple machinima stuff.

This this this.

If we had first person, creating machinimas would be so much better. And if anything would promote it more on YouTube (look at the wow machinimas).

I seriously want to make some movies, but can’t. If people are afraid that it would screw something up, have a check box in settings, default checked, disabling first person.

our playerbase would be alot Bigger.

players would feel like we are getting content and new things. it feels like a safe money/ time investment.

I agree with more frequent feature packs (though we would probably get less features at a time than one big one. Ex. A big one giving 6 at once like every six weeks, while smaller ones would give 2 every two weeks over than span of six weeks.)

The rest I can’t agree on because you and I have no data to back up such a claim except from a handfull of people

Free to play games can’t reduced their price because .. they are FREE .. so no price.

And else .. i think there are not really much games that sell their boxes for full price
still after 2 years or never had them on sales.

No no. He’s right. F2p don’t lower their box price cause they have no box. They can run store sales, that’s it.

NOW B2P (buy to play) can lower their prices because you buy the game once and play for free (no sub).

…nothing to do with their large populations and our declining playerbase… hmmm

Really? You think they just decided this like yesterday? LMAO!

They’re been working on the chinese release for a very very long time.

No no no. That’s not how developers work.

See, they plan to only allow limited releases in a select few countries, excluding the rest. Devs don’t plan to release to the whole world eventually, they only plan on the few REAL players in the countries.

Expanding to another country is a desperation signal to the REAL players the game is dying, so the devs are forced to expand to get more revenue from the excluded countries.

Duh. What? Do you think devs plan ahead with translating, voices, changing graphics to meet guidelines in those countries, over a span of time? No! They just snap their fingers and POOF, problem solved.

People are mad today because anet refuses to use this fingering snapping poof power now to instantly fix the game and give players what they want.

about gw2 tho, i am not sure about future of this game, with new mmos coming out every year, probably small dedicated community will keep it alive but it wont be among top mmos if anet continue this way with their LS stuff and no expansion in sight.

Guess what will happen with gw2? And I won’t be the only one. People go to vent, teamspeak, mumble, etc because then SOMEONE can control the voices. In all the other games, you cant

PvE gets updates every 2 weeks and you still whine. PvP hardly gets updates. Go cry elsewhere.

Which is exactly how it should be because NO ONE ACTUALLY PVP’S IN THIS GAME.

There are currently 8-10 different dry top maps FULL of players…

It takes me 10 minutes just to find 8 players to play a single sPvP match with…

The players have spoken, the devs just aren’t listening.

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself “gee, I go to pvp and there is barely anyone pvping, I wonder why?”

If you immediately go with your first response “BECAUSE ITS A PVE GAME”, then you arent thinking outside the box.

If there isnt anyone spvp, then maybe its because spvp needs its only special reward tracks, new game modes, etc. Maybe, if spvp gets that, then more people will log in and join. THEN it won’t take forever to just hotjoin and play!

Megaserver downfall.

One solution could be to create districts once again for zones, and bring back the suing system.

Split the zones into so many districts (the megaserver part of trying to put you with people of same realm, guild, friends, etc, stays). But let’s say you want to go to a different district because they may be doing better at a progress event like dry top. Right click portrait, select and go. Is it full? Then you get a prompt asking if you want to wait in que.

The REAL irony in this though, is that system DOES EXIST but is more of a pain. Want to swap to a different server? Find someone on that server, party up, right click THEIR PORTRAIT, and join. Its seriously already there, just give us the ability to not have to group up to get there. And then add the wue so we don’t have to keep spamming till it accepts us.

Sigh….a nice thread to deal with the simple things, and ruined by people asking for complicated things that would require hard or long coding.

Anyway, tp filter for armor weight

This actually worked very well with Sony during development and launch of EQN Landmark, and during the on-going development of EQ Next.

With Landmark, the players/fans felt engaged, and the Devs were actively talking to the players. Yes, there were times when the players disagreed, but the Devs took the time to explain the rationale behind the decision. And they still had plenty of time to get their work done.

You didn’t have that feeling of “are the Devs even listening?” You knew they were. They might not agree with you, but you knew exactly where they stood.

Having ANet throw out the “wall of silence” is an excellent suggestion. The players wouldn’t have the feelings of resentment that they do now when they feel they aren’t being heard. A quick “we’re listening” every so often doesn’t cut it.

That was probably the best part of Landmark (for me): really feeling like you had input in the development of the game.

Don’t knock it based on armchair theories until you’ve actually experienced it. It would do ANet a world of good.

Edit: Oh, and Landmark is also a free to play game, and it doesn’t have an in-game shop (or it didn’t at the time), so the “they can’t without a subscription” excuse won’t fly either.

As one of the people in alpha of EQL, you have to remember that was during the alpha and beta of the game. In the official launch, we don’t know if they will be as communative as they are now.

So why they gave us “Game discussion” and “Suggestions”?
I said “we give them feadback and ideas” not “we create our own game and we need ANet only for technical things” (it’s “our” game because we’re part of this game; Earth is “our” too).

TBH, without feedback about LS1 GW2 would be already dead. I discussed LS1 with my guildmates and we agreed that if next LS2 going to be crap again – we’re quitting.
We’re still here and I think we weren’t alone.

Game discussion is there for what the title says, game discussion. But too often do threads devolve into about the company and not the game. Talking about things working or not working is fine, but too often it divulges into attacks.

Suggestions should be given and realized for what they are, suggestions. We can suggest things all we want, but its up to the devs if they want to try them or not. But too many times do people assume that if their suggestion isn’t used or spoken about, then either A – ‘Anet isn’t listening to me! They don’t care!‘. B – ’my idea is flawless! Why hasn’t anet implemented it yet? Its sooooo easy to do.’ And he old rarely thought of C – ‘Maybe my idea wasn’t so good after all cause it wasn’t fully thought through, or perhaps anet can’t implement it do to tech or time constraints’.
