Rings the bell? Yeah, thief is ranger pet basically. I don’t see how it can be enjoyable to be a pet for other players.
Yeah clearly Thief must be equal to a Ranger pet since EVERY SINGLE top team runs a thief and a team with a Ranger on it hasn’t won a real tournament in over a year and a half. Perfect logic… actually, head on back over to the thief forum, thanks

Just out of curiosity though…. just theoretically, in which cathegory would you put SA players? They are not exactly EU either…
thing is Blu knows that player since he had to prove his origin for wts qualifiers….
… because first we didn’t have enough NA players on team (even though another team was allowed to play with 4 NA players on EU tourneys). Then we did have 3 NA players but we got disqulified anyway because player on our team is south american and doesn’t count as north american according to Blu even though that player has USA citizenship and he even played in WTS qualifiers for NA. Wat?
… 15 blooms. That is. No chest, nada. :|
please no shadow clone on steal….. it actually gives your position out if you run hidden thief and try to get away
I been asking this question to myself since they removed it….. i really don’t get it.
I can understand that they want to promote team play but let’s face it it just doesn’t work. Majority of pvp community ARE solo players. For various reasons (bad internet, no time, no mic, not interested, not good enough etc.) they just can’t/won’t join/make teams no matter how much Anet punishes them for qing alone. Building whole pvp system for top 20? players that have a team and rest should have very frustrating experiece is just stupid. I really wish they have done it like in league:
- you had soloq where you could q alone or with max 1 friend
- team queue
Team queue obviously had extra rewards but at least that game has an option for solo players. This game just tells you: make a team or don’t pvp. Once leagues go live, it will be even worse:
- top teams will farm everyone, solo players won’t have any chance to get any rewards
- top teams will sell carries to solo players that want skins
- legit teams that may be not so good will get farmed by top teams that carry solo players
This ^^ will create so much toxicity. I have seen it in so many games and this WILL happen in gw2 unless Anet brings back soloq.

I think most players still have trauma from first year of gw2 when you could kill people with HS spam. Class changed a lot since then but flashbacks are reals i guess.
Also, stealth was always very frustrating mechanic to deal with for a lot of players in any game. Vs stealth you actually have to think and play mind games, let’s face it which average Joe wants it? The average Joe just want iHulk iSmash and collect points.
Dealing with elusive enemy is not so satisfactory.
Also, thieves are very squishy, anyone knows it, whole nature of the class is being coward and play dirty. You would be surprised how many players are out there that expect you to stand and fight face to face like a true warrior. You think you got them, nope they get away, come back and possibly kill you – that leads to a lot of frustration from “honest” players and QQ.
I do agree it should be baseline, while i would still take trickery for steal traits i don’t see why this specific trait can’t be made baseline. It won’t make thieves OP, it would just open more options to them. It is pretty much same as clones on dodge.

There’s “mandatory” lines for every weapon set but you can still play them without these lines – we did so before.ETA: Even D/P which might need initative the most.
It was ok pre patch, i do think thieves need some help right now, even with tiny things like extra ini. Have you seen what other classes got baseline and what we got? Yeah….
Generally thief is pretty fun (hence why i spent 90% of my time on main/alt accounts on thief), they are fast paced, have great moblity, escapes and are very risky but as posters above me said other classes can do most things better than you, however i must say playing them is just boring.
Now, in pve anything works. Really. Thief is also in decent spot there, some dungeon groups actually want thieves for their stealth and skipping capability. Their dmg is also quite high. Even in pve however you can get one shotted if boss just looks at you so kind of need to be careful.
PvP/wvW is different story: players are not mobs, they don’t follow same rotation, they use strongest builds their class has to offer usually. It just happend that thanks to consistent QQ over past 3 years devs nerfed this class almost every single patch which led thieves to their current state: very risky, not really rewarding in most cases, given same skill level they can’t 1v1 any class right now really, can’t participate in big fights either, they heavily rely on their team to be good. Thieves still do have fixed spot in tournament teams. Why? They are very fast despite being otherwise rather a lackluster. Their main role is
- to get to other points fast and decap them while enemy is not watching,
- get to teammates fast and create outnumbered situation like 2v1 so you could gank enemy fast and move to next point
- thanks to SA minor trait they are really good at rezzing teammates in downed state
- they have few ways to grant stealth to teammates
- they are capable of stopping rezzes/stomps even through stability thanks to steal/trickery trait line
The problem is as i said, you need a good team that you can rely on. If you play/queue alone as thief or do wvw solo you will find yourself being hardly useful most of the time. It takes great investment and skill to be actually effecient on thief and any team right now that want a thief, want really really good one. Mediocre, just good won’t cut it. As new player you will have to invest thousands of hours and games to be somehow ok thief.
Also, while i can faceroll and make a lot of mistakes on dd ele right now for example, on thief i have to play every other class to know how they work so i know how to fight them because 1, max 2 mistakes on thief usually ends up with thief being dead. So it is extra time investment.
Bottom line, if you want just to have some fun atm play anything but thief. Thief is only fun when you are actually really good at it and can get that awesome feeling of confirmation that you are good when you beat classes that you shouldn’t have ( THAT satisfaction i get when i beat dd eles mmmmm).
Oh, and i forgot to say, that thieves are most hated class in gw2: other classes hate us for our mechanics and for what we did in first year of this game so get ready to be constantly verbally harassed by players; devs keep promising us things and even post those things in patch notes but actually never implement them.
