2. at higher ratings people play more as a team, you don’t have idiots zerging animal or 4 capping home point

So yeah, higher rating players are better than lower rating players. Breaking news really.

3. players with high MMR always get better teams than enemy.

And there the misinformation. No they don’t. They get players within their own mmr range against players within their own mmr range. I get that you are frustrated by the game atm, but you shouldn’t spread misinformations like that.

lol they don’t. Not enough players in their range so they fight teams around 300 pts below them. I have faced rank 1 so i experienced that at first hand. Why don’t you stop posting misinformation.

Also, point was they are not burdened with 4v5/3v5 games like lower ranks do. Top players do lose games when they get crappy teammates, once again have experienced it first hand.

Still calling for EVan to take a look at my matches and tell me if this an error in matchmaking or plain unluck.

The game doesn’t say,
“Ok I picked two thieves and two guards based on mmr. Though it would average mmr these two teams if the theives were together, I wont because, duh.”

It’s more like,
“I can’t see the classes these players are playing to determine class vs class win averages, so i’ll just do my best to balance the mmr on the two teams.

So unfortunately for you, the comp you face and the comp on your team is 100% based on luck, per matchmaking balancing mmr.

Fun fact, when i play thief i tend to get double/triple thieves on my team, it is extremely rare that enemy team has 2 thieves. However, when i play my necro or engi i see a lot of double thieves on enemy team. Coincidence? That is some amazing coincidence after 6k+ matches of observation.

3. players with high MMR always get better teams than enemy. I am not sure why MM does it, but after looking up stuff it seems like they always get higher rated team than enemies. The only time i witnessed top ranks losing games is when they actually faced other top ranks but it is very rare since game usually stacks them all on one team.

you should learn to play thief before dropping this here. Really.

Thief has an absurd amount of active defensiveness ( perma-stealth, almost unlimited evades and teleports around the map at will plus blocks with the DD) plus the highest single target burst in game,

If any Thief should be looked upon as his actual status because is ridiculously rewarding for just spaming dagger\sword. This is class is not the 1 used in pvp right now(only the 3 after dh and ele) simply because DH and Ele are easier to use for their many passives.

If Anet make those classes to have a higher skill floor to be good with we should see pvp plaged with thieves.

1. It will never happen.
2. Ancestal Grace is on too short CD and is too good
3. Why don’t you fight some decent teams before dropping this here

Any half-decent thief would never say that because they are more aware of dodges than anyone else actually. Only people that say it is the ones that try to defend the broken mechanics.

You cant carry with a thief.

Well, maybe the really really really good ones can make a big differences, but 95% of them cant. Especially not in an enviroment when they get killed instantly by the 10 AoE traps laying on top of each other from the 3 DHs that’s not even on point.

Or maybe just the OP got unlucky, what do I know.

As i said before, i did switch to other classes (engis, necro) – it made no difference. In fact, as thief i had bit better score because i could rotate faster and split enemy since my teams just lose every team fight. And as i said, every match boiled down to the point that i can’t be at 2 places at the same time and i cant hold 2 points at the same time. It doesn’t matter if i ping on map, try to talk to the team etc.
I mean i can’t really blame my team in that sense – they are ranked at least 100 points below the enemy. I just can’t win games for them and i honestly don’t understand why i should.

I personally couldn’t care less about division, ranking etc. anymore but what really bothers me at this point is that getting decent matches is near impossible. Lop sided matches (500-100, 100-500) are a thing and it just makes pvp unenjoyable. The ranking system and matchmaking exist on first place so it doesn’t happen but somehow i see no improvement this season.

Engi can easily kill lord in his sleep and only counter to it is necro which will never reach lord in time.

Condis also murder the lord and you can’t do much vs it unless you bring ele+ druid but chances are that lord will still go down.

He also loves to break stealth and sit in AoE. At least they could have updated his AI to HoT mobs which tend to run out of harmful aoe.

I wish game would consider game scores when handling out rating. If game was close (498-500) you shouldn’t be losing much. I have no way to control what teammates i get (beside quoq), i can’t prevent the game from giving me teammates that are 100 rating below the enemy team. I do my best but i can’t carry that, it is a team game after all and yet i get punished heavy for such wonky MM.

The scores in the matches on my screenshot probably would be even worse if i wasn’t murdering things and decapping 24/7. Switching classes doesn’t help either. I can play engi, i can play necro – it is still same effect. I win 1 point, lose everything else. Go to next, win it – lose everything else. I can’t split but the game somehow expects me to.

We all know how one day balancing team woke up and decided that thief is too broken and should be reduced to garbage tier as fighter because they can roam. Fine, so be it.

However what really bothers me is the amount of mobility other classes have while being also great team fighters and duelers. It kind of ruins the whole logic behind being mobile class but sacrifice fighting capability for it. Prime examples were revs when they were added in Hot or currently druids with super upgraded version of RTL on short CD (ancestal grace). It does not make sense that druid while being bunkery, having pet that does absurd amount of damage, bringing a lot of team support to team fights, having extremely long range attacks is also capable to basically keep 2 points in check all game (especially on foefire) due to short CD long range gap closer.

I suggest that gap closers from bruiser kind of classes should be looked at and brought in line with their other aspects (survivability, dmg), e.g. shorter range, longer CD etc. If you are tanky you shouldn’t be able to port around (sup DHs, revs) or cover half of the map within a second. It just makes whole logic behind thief balancing obsolete. You can’t just threat one class with certain concept and then throw that very concept out of the window when it comes to balancing other classes.

Reason why i write is because:
1. a lot of teams still don’t want to see a thief on team, multiple thieves are a guaranteed loss in most cases

2. playing core is impossible because DD is only way you can actually keep up with mobility of other classes if you want to get any decaps; even if you play DD usually it buys you maybe 1 sec before enemy arrives to the point that you are trying to decap (which you probably won’t anyway so you just wasted time). Surely, you can stealth up and do sneaky decap but any half decent player will watch thief position on map and will keep eye on point if thief is nowhere to see. Bottom line, the effect of roaming is near neglectable if you play vs half-decent opponents with some map awareness.

- class stacking is big issue

- lopsided matches are still a thing and matchmaking is still forcing loses on higher rated solo players (i checked rating from my team and enemy team and my teammates are always somehow 100 pts lower than my enemy, how it calculates is beyond me)

- rating gains/losses are extremely punishing (especially in off-hours) because the gains/loss is based on your personal rating and enemy rating but it doesn’t take into account how terrible your teammates were

- duoq is fine, stacking duoqs on one team vs only solo on other is wrong

It really isn’t. I started in low plat, got to around 1900 then did mistake of playing late at night and dropped to 1750-1800 (gain 2-3 pts per win, lose 23). After ping ponging for a while i just went on huuuuugggee loss streak and i simply can’t win a single game. People simply go afk, lose fights in their favor, nobody defends. I can win my fights, i can decap but i physically simply can’t hold 2 points vs 5 enemies. It won’t happen. Working matchmaking doesn’t cause 500-9 games during prime time, 4 ppl basically sitting at spawn is not how balanced match should look like. I am in gold now.

Sure, i could accept that i am garbage and belong to bronze for all i care but then i wouldn’t be able to climb to plat 3 from plat 1 and winning games vs ranks 1 on first place if i was that much of garbage. Worst part, i did some research on teammates and enemies i get in matches and my teammates ranks are usually 100 or so below from my enemy. Why is it a thing?

But the same goes for aura tempests pulling whole teams to where they don’t belong. I demod one a few games this season and with minimal rotational knowledge it didn’t matter how bad my team were I just brought them back. It doesn’t suffer from the cool down drawback DH does, you always have a go to skill open.

Ele still requires a team that can capitalize on ele’s support where DH is more independent.

Anything that happens, no matter what is nerfed, somescrub, somewhere will walk into 5 traps stacked and die. His ghost will show up here to QQ.

Still doesn’t change the fact that DH is too easy to play and to rewarding atm and carriers players to ratings where they don’t belong and drag team down because they still lack basic understanding of rotation, focusing, team fighting, map timers etc. Had too many of those DHs in matches that seemingly don’t have map open at all.

If they nerf other HoT specs, yes i think DD should be nerfed. I however do not see issue with d/p itself.
The problem is, all i see is cries for d/p nerfs from d/d players without actually any suggestions for other classes.
Thief was NOT better off in S1….. did you even play s1 or you are just posting random clueless crap? Other profs actually had more mobility (sup revs).
Thief actually was decent point fighter until nerfs to BP, headshot etc. started to happen and celestial amy became a thing. I remember during hambow meta i was on a team and my main job was to run to far at begin of the match and kill whatever was there, regardless the class. A LOT changed since then. So why are you making stuff up? Why are you lying?

Nobody argues that DD and really any HoT specs made professions braindead but doesn’t mean that original weapon set should be nerfed to the ground because of 1 trait line. It just pushes core spec even further back.

I love how you call players bad, who are you to call other bad? What credibility do you have actually besides putting words in other poster’s mouth and spreading straight out lies?

S1-S2 was really bad for thieves, literary nobody was playing the class besides few hipsters (myself including, and yes i was playing core in s1). Did much change since then? NO. Other weapon sets got worse actually, yes there was some AA buff but they also nerfed all stealth attacks. At the end thief is still huge liability in pvp. Nerfing prof to the ground will not produce any positive results because devs simply don’t know what to do with this professions and it is THEIR words (stream from last year). Thief ALREADY was in terrible state and it hardly produced any good results so idk why all these d/d mains begging for d/p nerfs have some weird illusion that devs all of sudden will buff d/d. Did past not teach you anything at all?

I didn’t attack your skill level, i just wanted you to go experience how “OP” the weapon set is you complain so much about, especially when it is not supported by broken HoT spec. Because frankly it is not OP given the current state of classes.

Once again, who are you to tell thief community to l2p. Who are you to judge? What have you accomplished besides doing some wvw duels and posting misinformation on forums?

Also, I play full zerker FA core ele in Platinum with scholar runes , yet I can’t climb higher just because I play this build and all other builds are easier, more rewarding and more brainless to play, yet whenever I lose a match, people tend to report me. I should switch up my play as well? Well, had a game against 3 druids 1 warrior, and a mesmer yesterday, while we had the core FA ele, a guard, a thief, an engineer and a revenant, guess who lost? ‘’oh, you want to burst me? let’s give myself protection and you, the bursting class, some weakness aye?’’ You see, with that game, 1 death was enough for a complete snowball, as in Foefire, Druids can rotate insanely fast and support the other Druids when needed.

Sorry Evan, but your argument doesn’t make any sense…. though the guy probably deserves to be at where he is, since top tier thieves are able to carry games with their duo pro league teammates playing broken builds.

This game needs bot mode like other games have it. You don’t get much rewards from those but you can practice in those matches. If Blizz and Riot manage to create bots that follow payload, destroy towers, group up for fights, chose different routers etc. i am sure Anet could make simple bots that go for 2 points and try to defend.

Question is there anything in the match making to not let games like this happen?

I can post a few of these, i dont have the map kitten but i have a screen print of I playing ele and us having 3 DH’s and 1 switched to warrior and the 2 other DHs were bunker DHs.

Its not even me, i play ele for support if the team needs or i can play warrior.

Yet im getting 3 necros, 3dhs 3 thieves on my team and a majority of time none of them will switch.

supposedly according to white knights you will be on 3 dhs team eventually vs 3 thieves teams

(happens a lot to me and i have yet to see 3 thieves on enemy team in ranked in my entire 6k+ matches, i guess i didn’t play enough yet)

i am your average thief. I try my best to +1, decap things, kill squishies, run away like nobody’s business xD

Today i was on skyhammer – what an annoying map with a lot of pesky NO VALID PATH TO HOPE messages popping.
I see a FA ele running to our home in attempt to decap it. “Oh hell no” – i thought and went after him. After short epic battle i kill him and keep the point feeling all good about myself. And then the team starts to flame me for not +1 them and for doing 1v1 fight.

“But it was our point, i tried to defend it” i said.
“It is not your job to 1v1!!!” – my team said.
“But but it was our point and enemy was just FA ele, should i have let him cap?” – i started to feel pretty sad inside :<
“Yes, your job is to decap and not to defend!!!” – yelled fellow mesmer.

Dear diary, i am a bad thief. I don’t let enemy to decap only point we have -_-

On more serious note, i really should start to record matches for such gems.

I run three different non-stealth thief builds that are potent. SA and Trickery while potent in their own way are not mandatory. Besides stealth stacking isn’t necessary to quality stealth play. Prior to the D/D nerfs it used to be a strong weaponset and didn’t need and rarely used stacking. IMO stealth stacking just breeds weak cheese play (see Ghost Thief for a solid example) and this also includes Mesmers not just thieves.

No other AAA MMO allows players to have massive stealth uptime both before and after an attack.

Did you even read what i said? Did you even read what you said? You want thieves to be slow in stealth. What is thieves job in pvp? To roam. How do they do it? Stealth up and run to other point while enemy hopefully can’t see them. If your suggestion would be implemented, thief as roamer would be dead and as a fighter they are garbage currently.

Nobody uses SA nor ghost thief in pvp – get out of your wvw mentality, jeez. It is not the only game mode out here and stealth stacking is not an issue in pvp.

@DeceiverX.8361: how do you want thief to compete in current madness of HoT specs? Do you have any solution besides omg plz nerf this because i think it is faceroll? Won’t affect “good” thieves? You know what happened in s1 when thief wasn’t so great? All those “good” thieves were playing revs. If your suggestions would be implemented we would just see them reroll something else, backstab was kind of garbage and is even more garbage now after the changes. If you check pvp forums atm btw even dev told player to reroll from thief to something else if he wants to win games.

I also love how you base your whole argument on beating some random legendary/diamond thieves in duels. Pvp is not about thief duels….. /facepalm

In the world of much sparkles and auras i actually found it hard to see teammate slubling that supposed to eat mushrooms. Would it be possible to make the model somehow different so it is more recognizable? I understand the whole idea of being one of “them” for few second but practically it is… unpractical.

Being put on lower ranked team that i simply can’t carry by myself vs somehow lower ranked team and then lose absurd amount of points for it. If i do manage to win such match i gain literary nothing.

You lose rating based on your personal MMR vs enemy team MMR. Issue with it is, high rated player with high MMR can be put on very bad team with low MMr (has been discussed countless times, it IS a thing; i actually went as far as tracking my matches and teammates ratings – yes it happens a lot in fact) that is simply uncarriable but since you face enemy team that on average has lower MMR than high MMR player that player will lose a lot more points than low MMR players he has to carry. So not only he is handicapped by low rated teammates he also loses massive amount of points for it.

Let’s assume high rated player actually manages to carry low ranked team. He actually would gain close to nothing for such game (geting 2 pts is a thing) because enemy team was still lower ranked than him.

It is a loss-loss situation either way.

I personally think it is wrong to punish player because matchmaking is unable to create balanced matches. If anything the loss/gains should be based on team MMR and not personal vs enemy team MMR.

OP, problem with pve players is not that they are new but there is quite few of them that came to pvp just for the ascended armor so they don’t care of they win or lose the match, they just afk in spawn.

And as mentioned above, as new player you get average MMR. If you have no clue how to play you will have a lot of bad matches and basically cause 4v5 until you drop to proper MMR.

As far as flaming goes – regardless how good or bad you are there will be always someone flaming you in some of the matches.

I actually find the map a lot more enjoyable than what it used to be, there is far less gimmicks for instant kills now.

A lot of terrain is bugged and you can’t use teleport skills like steal, shadowstep, blink etc. due to no valid path. On flat terrain…..

Then we have issue with DH pull that pulls you high into air so you die to fall dmg – it happens A LOT on that map.

The jumping pads give classes with aoe, pets and range big advantage vs melee.

Playing thief or rev on that map is pure nightmare.

Mannnnnn, it must be easy to rank up on NA. On EU it is like 1900+ for 100 i think. Also gl on keeping it, it is so volatile, i have been jumping between top 250 and top 100 for days now. 2pts gains per win, 20 per loss weeeeeeeee X.X

D/P shouldn’t get a nerf, but stealth stacking particularly by a field should. Stealth has always been borked in GW2. No class should come in and out of stealth as easily as is done in this game. Course I also think stealth should slow a player down not speed them up.

…and so you would kill thieves as roamers (only role they have) in pvp. Good that you don’t balance this game.

Shadow Shot needs a nerf, that’s really the bottom line, it just deals too much damage for its cost.

I find D/P players usually easier kills than anything else on D/D.

The nerf requests for D/P usually don’t come from D/D players because they’re countered lol. It’s typically because D/P will always be the best set unless it’s just made terrible and generally speaking people from other professions find it dumb (spamming 3/4 for wins against professions without extensive multi-hit effects/stability like Necro, other thieves, etc. or those who simply dislike the amount of dependency on stability/boons there is in the game currently (AKA almost every pro league PvP player in recent years, including thieves)) and those who don’t like to play D/P don’t want to be locked into it for the sole reason it’s just so much better than everything else and thus the thief can’t see room for improvement profession-wide.

Plastering D/D players alone is kind of ridiculous when literally everyone not playing D/P or those who prefer other sets thinks the same thing.

There was time everyone and their mother played S/D, d/p barely changed since then so it is not entirely true that d/p will be always superior. “Everyone” ? You speak for whole thief community now?

Bottom line, all i see is cries to nerf only team oriented set that makes thief somehow viable in pvp. Why not just ask to delete thief from pvp all together? Season 1 anyone? Also if d/p is that OP go play core dp, lets see how OP it is.

And yes i will “plaster” d/d mains because it is mostly them asking for d/p nerfs from my experience so far.

I think there is also another issue. Since they don’t play their alt accounts as much but slots are taken it means there are actually not that many people that queue in that rating so system tries to make up for it making top 250 facing teams below 1700 which leads to lopsided games and only 2 pts gains per win (yes it is a thing).

Yes and no.

You may use a macro to activate a skill, for example I have the F5 skills macro’d onto my mouse thumb buttons.

You may not macro multiple actions to one key press like using judges intervention, smite conditions and test of faith to activate exactly 1s after activating true shot like so many DH seem to.

Or jump and dodge at the same time, yes you people who do it every single time without fail even when it makes 0 sense to do so.

I mean those who use multiple spells at the same time. I figured some guy was using macros because they all activated at the same time but in some cases it didn’t make sense to use them like this but he still did.

Was at around 1850, dropped from that because would get like 2 pts per win….. but lose a lot per loss.
