There is so much miss information from people who want to claim skill.

Going 50/50 Is not where you suppose to be (See Screen shot), the ones that are saying they can single handly carry a game are completly full of it. I’m a thief, i can keep one point caped and one point neutral. It does not matter most games, since your teammates are constantly charging home point and dieing 4on3.

Supreme you should just ignore Locuz, He’s just a troll trying to boost his ego.

Eventally i will get motivated enough to post a video, Until then, let’s observe some “Quality match making”

Is this legit? Wow. I have no idea why you are in bronze for your skill level, I for one am in t3 silver lel.

If he thinks letting his team rush in 4v3 to their close is a good idea its no surprise he can’t climb. What he should’ve done is just +1 it, burst one or two down and then gtfo there because at that point, it would be impossible for your teammates to lose and they will move on after capping, even if they cap it together. With a thief’s mobility, he can be back to doing other things in no time.

You would be surprised. I have had teams that lost 4v2 fights.

If you are 1v1ing a ranger and you down him, and you are low hp, you should move away, heal back, cc the pet if ressing, and then stomp.
Everyclass has something to secure the stomp from get dazed from downed ranger, you can block his Attack, blind it or just pop up stab

you know pet can port to you and knock you down for lovely 6k dmg?

You aren’t supposed to get fair matches, a good system knows if you would win or lose, and this system knows it.

But there is one thing missing, if you win against the odds, you should be rewarded with a lot more points, same if you lose against someone you are supposed to win, you should lose way more points.

This would be rare – except you are in the wrong rank and need to climb/fall down

Otherwise if all matches would be fair, you couldn’t leave your current mmr to the mmr you truly have. Right now the flaw is just the rewarding system, but i am sure Anet is working on a solution, since many gamers out of different skill levels suggested it

And those matches are there for two reasons, eitehr that you win and show the system you improved – you passed the test!

Or in case you fail, that you learn from better players, that you can see their strategy, that you can adapt and improve after that game

I can show the system that i improved when i carried 2 players on my team that are 100 pts below enemy team? Good joke. I have faced “better players” – you know how it looked like? They run duo, matchmaking also puts 4 of them on same team vs team that is 300 pts below them.

Need a hard MMR reset for next season

No, they should never ever at any point do another hard reset.

Glicko requires having lots of data to work. Removing all data means we go back to total randomness.

People having 70-90% winrates because it’s week 1. They won’t be able to maintain that longterm.

Good news: those players will keep on dropping, and dropping. If they’re really that bad, they’ll essentially be dead weight to their teams. It’ll always be 4v5 with them around.

They won’t. I have won plenty of matches where we were basically 4v5 and carried player that simply doesn’t belong in that rating.

The problem – there is forced 50% win rate. You lose too much? You will be put in stupidly easy matches so you get back to where you can ruin games for other players.

The algorithm behind the MMR will never be perfect, nor could it be allowed to (because then your queue times would be endless). As for the lopsided match: from personal skill to class composition, there’s a thousand reasons a match can be decided that clearly. Sucks that you lost, but you’d be lying if you’d claim this has never happened in your favor.

At the end of the day, matchmaking works as an average. Perhaps not a single one of your games will be fair on its own, because that’d be impossible to achieve. But at the end of the session (or the season), you’ll have had a somewhat “fair” experience in total.

This is a gambler argument. Yes, overall it will even out eventually but after 50k matches maybe. By that time a player would probably quit the game tbh.

Here is your typical lop sided match, 500-100. Here is team ratings.

Losing team:
me 1857
player2 1833
player3 1813
player4 (duo) 1700+? (doesn’t show up on LB)
player5 (duo) 1700+? (doesn’t show up on LB)

Winning team:
player1 1867
player2 1882
player3 (duo) 1805
player4 (duo) 1865
player5 1869

Now overall it doesn’t seem like huge difference right? But here is the catch. At these ratings you get around 7 pts per win, you lose around 14 per loss so difference between under 1800 and 1880 is in quite few wins.

Why was this match even considered to be fair from matchmaking point? Why was the loss so punishing for the underdog team (14 pts -> need 2 wins to make up for it)? Why does matchmaking expect highest rated player on team to carry players that are 100 pts below enemy team?

Except you don’t face 1700 team. I have faced teams 300 points above me and still got like 7 pts….

OP, define pve player. I raid (kill all bosses every week) and do fractals, i also was legend in all 4 seasons and grinding in plat atm.

The only issue i see with new players coming to pvp is that they get average MMR.

What is interesting indeed is when i play with duo i won most matches, regardless with whom i duo. If i play solo, winning becomes real struggle. I am seeing stacked rank 1 players vs random no names all the time and lose hefty amount of rating for it too considering they are 300+ pts above me. If somehow by some magic i do win vs rank 1 i gain less than i lose …..-_-

Can you display the professions in those ss?

Nobody can carry all games. Nobody has to do so. If MMR is random, then good players won’t have a higher initial MMR that prevents them from getting terrible players. If their MMR is not random, then maybe your MMR isn’t completely random either, right?

The problem is not even thieves, the problem is that balancing team balances classes assuming there is no class stacking while class stacking is featured in pvp. It does NOT work together.

1 DH is not problematic – multiple DHs is issue in point based game. Thieves are designed around roaming and unable to fight anything in game: 1 thief is ok, 2 thieves basically makes it a 3v5 on point etc.

Either devs should stop balancing classes in vacuum like this or prevent class stacking on initial matching of the teams. But it is like talking to a wall – pointless.

Or maybe not?

I’ve also lost a few games against double thief comps. Players > Classes.

This is proof that matchmaking doesn’t work. If it was working then players on both teams would be equally skilled and there is no way double/tripple thief would win in such situation.

He already did that on stream. He paired up with amber players in some previous season and carried a complete trash tier MMR game with ease where everyone was just plain bad and he could win 1v3s

I have won vs Sind/Misha duo this season – yes they lose when they have potatoes on team. Sure, he can maybe dominate in amber but issue is when you face opponents that are not completely bad and your own team is just… sry to say it potato, even best players in game can’t carry that.

But as said before, they don’t get bad teams as often due to their MMR. I also saw so many times how matchmaking would stack his duo + <insert another pro league> duo on same team and they would just 500-50 enemy team consisting of 1700+ solo players.

But why would the system put all the bad players in the same team and all the good in the other for hundreds and thousands of games? I mean, according to you, the system can’t even know who is good and who is bad. You are basically saying, matchmaking doesn’t exist and never existed, because it is all rng. But if its all rng, it will be the same for all players in the long run. Because rng doesn’t give any advantages or disadvantages to anybody.

The system can’t judge who is good and who is bad, it’s not designed for that. It’s designed to judge am entire team so it would work great for full premades, but for individuals it is crap.

Except system stacks 2100+ players vs 1700+ players pretty often – this shouldn’t be a thing but it is.

Inb4 wild Evan appears and tells you, you are where you belong and should be punished for winning games vs rank 1 players kek. Same issue here, the gain rates are abysmal – which i would be ok with but then you face double duo from pro league players while your team consists of only solos (and obviously are not top 10) and you lose like 14 pts.

Problem with personal stats is that they heavily favor classes like engis and DHs camping point and spamming aoe on minions. As roamer you get heavily punished since most of the time you spend running around the map, decapping things and +1 which results in low dmg, low heals, only so much offense/defense – you have high impact on match but it doesn’t reflect in stats usually.

If rating gains were affected by stats it would be same issue as in OW where supports get shafted with SR gains because they usually get only 1 stat (heals) where dps/tanks get multiple due to their mechanics. It led to issue that nobody wants to play support even though it is needed in every match.

Actually what shouldn’t really happen is rank 1-10 double duos vs rank 1800 and below full solo – however it is a thing. And there are hefty rating losses involved as well for such matches… because reasons.

Roamers are only as good as their team. If team can’t hold even 1 point you are not gonna win anything.

But they can carry the +1s.

A lot of times in pugs you end up with situations where the only way to carry your team is to personally +1 every fight. You can’t do that low mobility classes.

You should have seen my games. I had matches today where people lost 4v2 -_- You can’t carry that. Worst part, if i lose vs high rated players (300 pts ahead of me) i lose a lot, if i win vs them i barely gain anything.

Fun fact, there is no limit how many magnetite shards you can get besides the weekly one. Idk why they limited pvp equivalent. I would be fine if we would get less shards but it wouldn’t be one time thing.

Of course the op is in top 250. All he plays are rev and thief which are the best carrying classes due to high mobility.

Meanwhile the rest of us that don’t play high mobility classes are screwed due to not being able to maintain a presence on all three points and thus have to rely on the pugs being able to win their respective fights. (which due to the law of pugs, they always lose)

I played with in against emdrix on a number of occasions during the unranked season. He knows what he is doing, but I wouldn’t call him a god either. Also has a habit flipping out in a salty rage.

Roamers are only as good as their team. If team can’t hold even 1 point you are not gonna win anything.

You can’t decap point when they pew pew at you from pillar…..

Yeah you can chase them to the pillar but by the time you get there you already took a lt of dmg and they can just jump down and back again.

Why should someone be forced to hardcarry just to win a match? Isn’t whole purpose of matchmaking to create even matches and not force players to carry potatoes vs better playing (which is the case atm)? Worse part, you lose more points than you gain when you end up in uncarriable match. Somehow matchmaking thinks you should be punished for having afk teammate.

Yes, they did. And they improved the map a couple of times in major ways. It’s pretty competitive now with significantly less cheese.

And not every map needs to be perfectly friendly to every playstyle. I think it’s great that there’s at least one map where ranged can have a clear advantage over melee. With all the gap-closers and the terrain of other maps; we don’t really have much of that anywhere else.

You actually defend maps that give huge advantage to certain builds in RANKED matches? Are you serious? Melee do need gap closers because they keep eating dmg 24/7 trying to reach ranged that afk pew pew at them.
And please don’t bring up ports – classes that rely on ports lack in other departments.

Why was this map allowed in ranked? It heavily favors ranged builds (DH, druid, necro) and is absolutely unplayable for classes that rely on teleports (mes/thief/rev) due to dominant no valid path bug that hasn’t been fixed since creation of this map. Did you even test this thing?

OK, by that logic people griefing turrets on tequatl (sitting on turrets but not shooting and thus blocking the process) play the way they want and it should be accepted. By the same logic people that push bomb in at south octovine in opposite direction on purpose play the way they want and it should be accepted. By that logic players that afk with MM necro with auto-loot and farm like this 24/7 play the way they want and it should be accepted. By that logic players that look for LGF groups, join a group and leave right away over and over again so the group can’t post LFG anymore play the way they want and it should be accepted. By that logic people that bomb RP taverns play the way they want and it should be accepted. By that logic people who afk in ranked matches should be accepted because they play the way they want.
You know why those things are bannable offense in current game? Because they are toxic to the community. LI requirements are toxic to the community – it is mobbing of the new players and players that just came back to game.

@Neox.3497: no offense but you have very naive idea about groups in online games. Decent groups like you described don’t exist. Once again, play wow, you will get full range of the awesome experience of doing raid with dps/heals/cc/boons etc. meters. Nobody cares WHY you don’t pull your numbers, they won’t look at other stats nor have time for it, they will NOT look at your rez count or boon count and what not, they will just boot you, period.
Even if you are in a raid guild, they will boot you if you don’t pull your meta numbers (i am not even talking about doing 25% less dmg, i have seen people getting booted for doing 5 % less dmg than they supposed to do according to meta) – THIS is reality and i have been raiding in wow for many years.

We already have huge elitism and toxic behavior from raid groups thanks to LI, i shudder to think what will happen if DPS meters were added to GW2.

Split between pvp and other modes is great idea and should have happend long time ago.

Glad to see trap nerf for DHs (jumping on DH was impossible due to daze).

Thief changes: too little, won’t make any difference. If you want core/other weapon sets to be used you need to either adjust elites or adjust those weapon sets more (e.g. reveal on demand needs to go, it made core thief obsolete and forced everyone into DD; dagger off-hand needs a blind or some kind of secondary utility; s/d needs more boon steal – atm it is just useless due to abundance of boons on enemy; sword MH stills suffers from after cast issues; elites gave other classes mobility making core thief obsolete as roamer (e.g. druids RTL) – you have to have DD if you want to keep up with other classes and be able to decap. On one hand you butchered thief last year under excuse that they can roam and on other hand you give other classes mobility while buffing their fighting capability and survivability as well – this is NOT how balancing works, this is definition of favoritism and discrimination).

DPS meters are just as toxic as LI requirements. If you ever played wow and raided there you would know how bad those add-ons are. It is really easy to drop dps – someone goes down -> you go rez them -> you lose dps. Someone gets kicked by trash with bomb into you -> you have to dodge out or go down -> you lose dps. DPS meters in wow caused people to play extremely selfishly because if you don’t pull “meta” numbers you will get kicked, this resulted in people blindly dps or heal and not actually help teammates when needed causing wipes in the end.

Bottom line, if such tool was implemented, even less players would be able to get into raids and raids would become even more toxic than they are already.

The real solution for the raid entrance problem should be story mode raids which don’t give as many rewards as actual raid, contain easier version of bosses and give you proof that you killed them.

As far as LI requirements go, i would actually ban people for it if i could. This is just toxic behavior created by community.

I have played thousands of games, forced 50% win rate does exist, no matter how devs attempt to deny it. It is painfully obvious if you played so many games and just have blowout after blowout (100-500, 500-100) matches over and over again. Not to mention, my team completely destroys enemy team – next match i teamed with players i just completely destroyed – THIS IS FORCED 50% win rate. If matchmaking worked properly after win you would be facing better enemy and teammates with better teammates, but in GW2 you face pro league players with potatoes from diamond that die to Svanir just because you won a match before.

Remember when we would get multiple pips for winning games? Yeah, those were great tell of how desperately matchmaking attempts to make you lose. I had so many games (after an easy win) where i would get 3 pips for the game we barely won somehow (by huge luck and some insane hardcarry) and it was clear as day we were supposed to lose it.

New players/players who came back want to join raids … no, ty, nobody wants them.

They ask for story mode raids which allow them to learn raid mechanics – elitists just kill the threads because raids supposed to be something special and “noobs” don’t need to apply or better uninstall if possible.

Yeah, sure, you can make own group but leading one and just filling your role in fights is two different things. Even experienced players (a lot of them in fact) can’t lead a raid and you expect from players that don’t have 1000 runs under their belt to lead one.

Yes, there are groups without restrictions but i also experienced some that would ask your for LI anyway the moment you entered instance despite not stating it in LFG.

The other day i joined 80-100+LI Sabetha group while i myself have 40 LI (and Eternal), none of the group knew i actually didn’t fit the “requirements”. We one shot the boss, it was clean smooth run, everyone was happy about it and it felt really really good to tell that group that i actually have only 40 LI and that their LI requirement is garbage.

Had similar story with KC where i sneaked in high requirement group – was also a clean run. They took me to Xera as well despite my lolsy 40 LI.

Also, from my experience so far when it comes to bosses like Xera and Matt, those 200+ LI elitist are sooooo bad in many cases, like REALLY bad (pushing orbs to the edge off platform, stacking on crystal eating 21938219830 confusion, not using action key etc.). They mess up more than new players actually.

Bottom line: LI requirement is a joke and people who want to get carried require those.

@OP: best way to get kills is to join raiding guild. Problem with training runs is that you will never kill boss with those, ever (unless it is VG or escort). You can make own group but if you lack experience you can’t lead it. You can also lie about your LI and link chat codes (there are sites for it).

LI requirements aren’t bullkitten tbh. They’re very logical. Ofc a lot of stuff can still go wrong, a player with 40LI might do better than a 200+ player. However, by demanding a high amount of LI you lower the risk of failure substantially. You know the person at least knows the mechanics and has a fair amount of experience. he might be bad but the chance of that is less high. I’ve had bad 200+ groups and good 40+ groups. But overall the chance of clean kills is way higher in a 200+ group.

LI requirements is bs. And no, you don’t lower risk, you just don’t – if anything you alienate players from the content. It is toxic and should be bannable if anything.

Shadowstep, you still haven’t understood why ppl are putting an LI requirement.

It doesn’t matter if some 200+ LI folks have less skill than you.
It doesn’t matter if 20, 40, 100 or whateverest LI number you take.
It doesn’t matter if you can kill bosses with less LI than required.
It doesn’t matter if you can sneak into a group with less LI than required and you have success.
It doesn’t matter if you can fake your LI: If you fail hardcorely you will be kicked, if not, everything is fine and it’s ok you got away with cheating.

The requirement of pugs is there to discourage completely unexperienced players and to prevent pug groups from searching and wiping for hours due to those players.
Of course not every “1 billion LI” group will oneshot all bosses, of course some will still struggle, of course ppl can have a bad day, of course some folks have acquired their LIs with easy bosses, were carried someday by the others and have a good amount of LI to get into such groups. Yes, that can happen several times but the bottom line is, it is more likely to not struggle than to set up a group with no requirements and have success with it.

I also had boss kills with less or 0 LI requirements but I would rather join one with such a check because the likelihood of not wasting my time is much better.

Fun part is:
You are still complaining. Over weeks now. If it’s so hard for you to see such groups and you are blaming those “elitists”, then there is a cool option just for you:
Open your own squad – It will fill within minutes.
But don’t tell me that you always get the kill done. That’s more than unlikely and this is why you join the other ones at the moment. Because you know your chance is higher to succeed with these! Don’t lie to yourself!

No, LI requirement is there literary for people that want to get carried. If you invited someone and you see they are doing bad – you just kick them, done. Don’t need 3 hours of wipes for it, you can see straight away if someone is bad. The LI requirements just prevent players from doing the content all together.

And since you decided to attack me – i am actually in a raiding guild so i am not as affected by LI requirement issue but i still think whole concept of denying content to players who maybe don’t have 1000000 LIs because they didn’t raid from begin with but are actually good with their class and know encounters is toxic and should be bannable. The joke is, in previous guild i was core group (200+ LIs) couldn’t kill KC all evening, training group with people with very few LI if any one shot the boss. If i do have to pug, from my experience so far groups that don’t have high LI requirements were more successful actually. LI requirements are garbage, period. Those W1 150+ LI required groups just want to get carried, nothing else (8-manned escort yesterday in one of such groups, 2 were sitting afk – good joke).

Even year after xpac it still blows my mind how they dared to nerf acro and introduce it as DD. Lemme chop off your leg so i can sell you artificial one. The spec is also sooo boring. It brought nothing new to thief, if anything HoT limited builds thief can run. We really needed more group oriented build but noooooooooo, how dare thieves ask for being useful for group in xpansion that introduced raids lol /faceplam.

After 4 years of this game we gathered a lot of tonics that turn us into kodas, mordrem, knights, plants, trees, cats and what not. Problem is, they take a lot of space – like A LOT. I would be nice if there was separate section for them, at least for endless ones, kind of like for minis.
