I feel like I’m on the same boat. I’ve just started playing a couple of months ago (played a bit a few years back but there was no raid content back then).

Pretty much did all the content progression I could, got all masteries, explored all open world content/achievements, full ascendant gear, spec as per meta and over the last two weeks been trying to find a way into raiding (checking LFG, forums, any eventual recruitment shouts) but it seems I’ve hit a wall.

I have 0 LI and I have no clue how to get any since I can’t find any groups/guilds that do not request someone that raided already (in GW2) to some extent.

I know I’m coming late to the party, but are new players locked out completely from raiding content?

I saw a couple of posts about groups that accept new players like myself, if you know any, would you be so kind as to provide some more information I can look into (EU servers)?

Well what I think is more of a community problem is that if you want to raid but you got a low amount of Li you can’t get into a group nor guild. I really want to raid properly but I only got 5 Li and it doesn’t really matter from which boss I got them since people won’t let you even join for vg without having 100 + Li. (even if you got your low amount from said boss or the boss you want to do).
Is it just me or is this just ridicoulus? For me it is like saying : you can’t join on ascalon dungeon without having around 1k dungeon marks.
How can I get raid experience if I can’t join a group or a guild because I lack on Li?
Ofc the more Li you got the more experienced you are but tbh it gives new-ish raiders 0 chances to get into it :/
Also I think it would make it easier if the Li would show from which boss you got them.
Yes I might be complaining but for me it also kinda destroys the community :/

There’s at least 5 EU guilds that are recruiting that don’t specify prior raid experience as a requirement on the first 2 pages alone.

1. ask you for LIs anyway in game
2. don’t take you in raid unless literary nobody else showed up. So chances you get even VG kill are slim and you would have to wait for it weeks and months.

The only thing i learned from the past is that people resposible for class changes apparently can’t differ between serious and joke posts (anyone remember satirical thief nerf wishlist thread that was created purely for making jokes yet dev team actually took it serious and implemented most absurd changes? devs think DH traps are fine but choking gas is OP /smh)

Given that experience, i am afraid Henry will probably get his wish granted regardless how absurd it is. Time to join DH band wagon, screw skilled gameplay, embrace the faceroll!

A guild might let you play thief however in 99.99% cases only classes you will be allowed to play in raids atm are chrono, tempest, ps war and druid, in VG and escort you may play engi/necro but that is about it.

1. The problem is not being bad, you can be good player and experienced and all (hello training runs) but if you don’t fill the quota of 1521321313 LI and KP you won’t get into groups. Even guild groups are picky there when it comes to bosses like Xera and co. (i went through quite few guilds till i finally got into one that raids frequently, actually kills bosses and doesn’t discriminate members).

2. Some people just want legendary, they need a kill just once, rest can be farmed from VG and co. For them it is probably worth it to pay once. Just like it was with legend title in pvp – there are quite few AP hunters that paid for carry.

Sells like this are nothing new really, the moment there is something that not easy to get or you need to rely on group of people that won’t let you join, you will see such selling offers going.

Ask (and learn) from an actually good player.

Ok, let’s get a few things out there. This thread is ok — it could actually be really valuable to those who participate in it on a reasonable level. I see it as an honest attempt by a good player to offer help to other players. Having said that, let’s keep the tone relatively respectful and — as I’ve said before — save the overt aggression for the battleground.

A few of you were concerned about the use of the term “pleb.” It’s not the greatest term, but I seem to remember when newbie/noob/n00b was considered the height of insult and it’s now commonplace and pretty acceptable across the board.

The ground rule is this:

  • A generic reference = ok. Example: “The average pleb will…”
  • A direct referral to another player as a pleb = not ok. “You’re a pleb.” “You play like a pleb.” “Your socks carry the unmistakable odor of plebism.”
  • Other types of insults aren’t good, either.

If you’re going to report, look at what’s being said. If you’re going to try an attack or a counter attack, may I politely introduce you to your choice of PvP modes rather than doing it on the forums?

I am honestly speechless.

Alot of what the op said is not true and is a myth. This game is a long way from being solved due to the fact there is literally no esports scene. Anyone with moba or fps experience will know what i mean, there is no gw2 pro community with players so amazing. Look at the fact some of the best players dont even use things like fast cast which automatically puts people below skill cap.

Either way, this means alot of myths have emerged such as thief is not good in team fights. Thief is great in team fights as when pressured people kite then the thief can finish them easily. The problem is thieves have an obsession with decapping after getting 1 kill in a team fight.

Secondly thief can kill anything 1v1 and should never die if played correctly. Imagine thks game had truely elite gamers playing it. I know this isnt the case but they would break thief. So it is ironic seeing the l2p arguements as if people are some gaming gods. I would love to see some real pros come over from dota for a year just to see how broken they could show things as.

Everyone in gw2 sucks. We are all bad to differing degrees. So saying it should be balanced around the top tier is stupid as the top tier doesnt represent facts. I also dont believe thief is bad at the top tier of gw2 anyway. I think it is the best class at all tiers and that is by grinding up from 1040 rating in ranked.

Thief is the best 1v1 class in the game, trust me. Look at their damage and sustain. Nobody can match it. Make the best 1v1 class in the game also have huge mobility and its an issue. For me the only 2 classes i cannot beat ever 1v1 is mesmer and thief.

I had similar experience (during prime time!!!!), OP, posted numbers weeks ago as well. There was no acknowledgment so far.

This is a stupid argument because
1. game shouldn’t create such imbalanced matches on first place, guaranteed losses is no go. Guaranteed wins is no go.

2. he may have lost 7 rating, but i am sure the 1810 guy lost like 15 and he will need to win a match ot two to make up for it. There is also no guaranteed that that 1810 guy won’t be put in another such match again. Throws few matches like this (yes, it is a thing in higher ratings sadly) and you can easy drop out of plat.

On more serious note: Helseth your logic would be working if it took thief few seconds to kill said classes and not like 2-3 min. As far as mobility goes, nothing stops druids from abusing RTL on low CD, that is why decaps are impossible vs half decent druids on legacy map. Same goes for Dhs that have enough gap closers to catch up to a thief. Maybe, just maybe thief will get the decap but he surely won’t be fighting DH.

Ele shouldn’t be 1v1 a thief anyway, he should be sitting in team fights. Same goes for rev and necro. And how dare thief to actually be able to fight any class in this game!!! Now i know where inspiration for the dev team came from. Thanks for crappy year, dear Helseth! – with not so much love, thief community.

I don’t understand why do you want 100% win chance vs thief as a mes(besides being biased, that is). How would you justify it?

When retri rev was a thing, there was no place for thief, simple as it is. That is not just countering, that is making a class obsolete. Is this what you want?

Thief archetype attracts players who think they’re better than they actually are. I’d say only about 25% or less of the thieves I run into actually play it well. Too many keep trying to get a kill on sometime over and over instead of giving up for a better target.

I’m not defending DH’s either. I’m simply stating that class restrictions are not the way to address balance problems. The DH problem is a low skill floor which allows many players to spam and perform disproportionately well.

They should modify the matchmaking system based on the assumption that most people tend not to switch classes, and most people only have small number of classes they will prefer to play.

So a subset of the population doesn’t have a mindset of playing to win. And we should construct a matchmaking and ranked system around them? Ya, bad idea.

Since double-thief is the most common example, here’s my counter. Most of those thief players are mediocre (or worse). Doubling them up only shows how bad they are compared to one or both playing a more forgiving and simple build like dragonhunter. Again, why should the matchmaking algorithm care? Eventually those bad thieves will slide down in rating (and then come to the forums and whine).

He stole plasma from you xD. Dodge steal (it is on 20 sec CD so even if he gets first one you can predict seconds one) and he will be forced to run, especially if you are condi.

I actually get most complains from DHs and wars for some reason (got reported for hacking multiple times…. because apparently using shadowstep and steal is hacking). I think we all agree it is kind of silly that some players get placed at say 2k rating and play 1 time every days to maintain their position. They don’t exactly participate in the season, it leads to half dead top 250 which leads to lopsided matches because matchmaking can’t find better players so you have 1700 team vs 2100 teams.

Suggestion (stolen from OW): you should play at least 100 matches in the season to quality for top 250. Also i think players should be placed maximum at 1750 rating after placement so if they want to be legend, they would have to play for it instead of afking all season.

Agree on rating cap on placements and matches played. Someone should not be able to queue dodge snipe a top rating.

With the match making, they have to do something to give the top players decent queue times so they can do a stream that isn’t them attacking practice dummies for an hour before their queue pops. Maybe at the end of the season have a playoff where only the top 500 players can queue for matches to sort out who really belongs in the top 250.

The queue times are long BECAUSE half of the top 250 doesn’t play since it is all smurf accounts and people afk’ing for the season to keep their rating. If top 250 were forced to play, the queue times would be shorter as well.

And we all know how good team chat works when trying to coordinate people that don’t listen, already know everything or don’t even have team chat activated.

…and if you watched the stream it actually work’s most of the time.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ssssurree, even in plat people completely ignore map pings and team chat. I call enemies coming to our points but people are too busy chasing 1 thief on the beach.

I’d like to specifically address the bolded before I start:

Hyperbole weakens arguments. Nobody has even implied this.

Cheesy yes. Easy to play , yes. Broken ? Not so much. The class is stacked right now because it is easy to get kills and because it does not rely heavily on team composition to be effective. That doesn’t mean that the class itself is broken. They have incredible utilities for setting up damage on a point they control, but to get that they suffer against range pressure and mobility.

You have to play a little differently than jumping in to melee range, but it’s doable.

Sry, the class is broken simply due to their mechanics and nature of conquest.

As far as other statement goes: if you can’t play certain class due to other classes being broke and forced to reroll, yes, you don’t have to delete the character but effectively it is deleted character since you never play it. Also, some people like to play only certain class, when the class is not desired in game due to bad class balance then some people that main that class will simply quit the game (which happened when HoT came out and thief players experienced all time low so a lot of them quit the game all together).

However, I have faced many DH heavy teams as thief, and you can be successful by outrotating, +1ing, interrupting key skills (WoR), and in general not staying in melee range for long periods. This is Thief 101 stuff. Also, DH is heavily reliant on heals, Choking Gas can be wonderful in team fights while you wait for your kill shot moment.

Nobody argues about that but it only works when there is only 1 DH on enemy team which is not the case in many matches atm. The more DHs there are on enemy team, the more pressure there is on point not to mention they all heal, buff, peel and rezz each other. You can’t outrotate DHs when there is 2-3 of them on 2 points.

1. Guard has always been a tough matchup for thief, it’s best not to 1v1 them unless you are a much better player.

2. Dodge traps, it’s easy.

3. Stability is from using headshot on DH to trigger Fragments of Faith. Then set it off, giving the DH stability. Then steal that stability using Bountiful Theft. This also lets you proc your Basilisk Venom. Much harder than just dodging the traps and Deflecting Shot/Spear of Justice pull. Takes a while to kill a DH as thief, hence #1 point.

1. you will be forced into fighting DHs when there are multiple of them on enemy team which is normal atm

2. dodging traps doesn’t remove them from point nor you can dodge instant passive traps

3. stolen stab lasts for like a second, DH has plenty of survivability to wait it out…. Once again, gl vs multiple DHs camping 2 points.

So me playing from the very top of Bronze/bottom of Silver Solo to mid Gold? I must be a Platinum level or higher right? No I think I am where I am supposed to be until I improve myself at no point in that whole climb have I had a Win streak over 2-3 wins in a row and my Rating seems to have stabilized and I am against players that are of similar skill that make similar mistakes.

I experienced quite few matches where players (especially those in top 25-50) offer gold to enemy to afk in match so they can win. Does it count as match manipulation and is it a bannable offense? Highest i was offered so far was 40 gold lol (obviously i didn’t afk xD).

Things i saw in higher divisions (gold/plat/legend):
- people stomping clones
- 4 people afk’ing at spawn because i run 1 utility not according to metabattle
- people dying to svanir
- people zerging 4v1 at far
- people porting/mistform out of stealth gyro/rez gyro when they were almost up
- people attempting to kill bunker guard sitting at full HP while there is hammer rev sitting at 5% free casting
- people fighting roads, yes roads because there are not even any enemies (those are on points)
- people attempting to solo lord all match
- people playing FA ele because they are Phataram fanboys and constantly rallying enemy….. (none of them would actually post how many matches they cost their teammates)
- teammates telling me to let enemy FA ele cap our only point and not to fight him…
- obvious no stomps/no cleave
- many many many many many many many DHs and warriors
- PLAT/LEGEND ESPECIALLY: people offering gold for enemy to afk

what does this prove? only that an experienced player on an alt account can take advantage of new/inexperienced players, and nothing more. although i do have a question about something i saw between 4:55-4:59 – how does helseth 1)phantasmal warlock, 2)cry of frustration, 3)phase retreat and end up with 3 clones (indicator says he has 3)? otherwise, all i see is an experienced player on an alt account trolling inexperienced players, which proves that people who know how to play can take advantage of people who don’t at lower levels. imho, nothing of value to see here.

Um, the fact that if you’re in a division below your skill level you can push out of it? A couple here, and a running theme lately, has been that once people realized their skill level was bronze/silver they couldn’t come to terms with it when before they thought they were god’s gift to pvp, vets with thousands of games played so they started to blame everyone else and the system. Instances like these proves the system works as intended and that if you are infact the best player out of the 10 in the match you’ll go up.

It’s not ELO hell, it’s not RNG, it’s not bad teammates holding you down. After all, there are4 spots on your team not filled by you and 5 on the other, from the start if you’re the best out of the 10, the odds are already in your favor as there are less spots for the “bad” players to fill on your team.

I think you are missing the point. Problem is that gold player being in silver will probably never get to gold unless he is very lucky simply because the skill gap is not huge enough for him to win 1v5 match. Reason why Helseth is able to carry bronze teams is because the skill gap is insanely huge, once he gets to higher ratings, the gap will become smaller so he will start to struggle with so called “carry”.

Also, i still don’t understand misconception that to get where you belong, you are supposed to carry 4 potatoes on your team vs better players. I have checked my lopsided matches and it turned out that quite frequently i get teams in such matches that are hundred+ ranks lower below the enemy. The game actually handicaps you and expects you to carry such matches. This is really wrong on a lot of levels. Also, if by some miracle (e.g. someone dc’d, enemy team got too kitteny etc.) you actually won games vs by far higher ranked team, you gain almost nothing as far as rank points go. You are actually not rewarded for carrying potatoes vs better players. I have won games vs top 10 duos that were 300-400 ranks above me at times and yet i would gain 20 pts vs 16 pts loss. Honestly, wthhhhhh.

People were saying that Players could not carry matches even if you are supposed to be in Higher divisions, Helseth apparently is proving that otherwise, now those same players are arguing that he is an ESL player so this doesn’t count against their main argument.

Also to answer your question The Chronomancer Traits Chronophantasma and Illusionary Reversion could be the answer if he started with two illusions, I can’t pull up the video right now so I can’t view the specific segment you are referring to.

He won’t be able to carry solo once he hits gold/plat. We all can easily 1v3 in low ranks, has been proven in previous seasons hence why legends started in sapphire and not in amber anymore.

I have played vs Helseth plenty of times – trust me, if he gets potatoes on team and enemy team is semi-ok, he can’t carry that. I am not top player by all means, he should be ranked higher than me (which he is on main accnt), but i have won games vs him simply because his team consisted of potatoes. So yes, even best player can’t carry crappy team.

What you’re asking for is basically impossible. There will always be an objectively best option, and because traits and skills can’t be changed after a game starts, you tend to build around what’s to be expected.

Stop trying to face tank the damage. Traps are fine, stop standing in them doing nothing about it.

The problem with that is, they will just hit you with longbow which also deals a lot of damage, or pull you in if they can.

There’s nothing right about not being able to get near someone and still getting killed, while there’s nothing you can do about it except sitting it out and waiting till the traps are done.

No other class can do that and it’s been going on for long enough, either traps or longbow damage needs to be nerfed.

Then take a ranged weapon your self. It’s not like the long bow is an instant kill weapon.

Agreed. It’s hilarious when I slam a trap DH with symbol of punishment and aa with scepter while they stand there on point, not wanting to leave their traps.

Cool, so only way to fight them is another DH……

Or any class that has a ranged weapon. I’ve seen thief with pistols take out DH, LB Rangers, necros, warriors, well everyone. It really is a l2p issue. The only time a trap DH is a problem, is when he’s on a point with a class that can heal him.other wise he should be a free kill.

So give up point to the DH, ok got it, this is how you lose games though.

Lol, where did I say give up the point? I said if he’s on point with a class that can heal him, like an ele. But really, trigger the traps, eat the DH, give him the obligatory “RIP”. Really trap guards are not that hard to deal with. Unless your lacking in skill. What division are you in? Bronze? I’m almost T1 gold, one.more win should do it, and I’ve not played trap guard at all because of how easy they are to beat.

Maybe don’t play thief when enemy team is stacked with DH which is a hard counter to thief?

I certainly don’t like to play power rev if I see a condi heavy enemy team.

And if thief is the only class you know how to play then I guess Season 5 sux for you with all the DH stacking.

So here we come to conclusion that DHs ARE broken because you can’t play certain class all season at all because DHs are stacked in literary every match this season. Thanks for proving my point.

Not going to happen if he just plays solo. Somewhere in gold/plat he will hit the wall of abysmal rating gains and terrible team lottery. Also don’t forget his top 10 buddies love to farm teams 300-400 ranks below them (on which Helseth will land).

As i said in other thread, you can only climb when you can basically win 1v5.

There are a lot of playing having literary same rating, even in top 250 (e.g. player 1 has 1815 rating and player 2 has 1815 rating). Your mistake is that you assume that each rating is reserved only for one player, which it is not obviously. There could be 100 players sitting at 1500 rating.

Pretty sure silver/gold has A LOT more players than your assumption considering most ppl end there after their placements.

There’s nothing right about not being able to get near someone and still getting killed, while there’s nothing you can do about it except sitting it out and waiting till the traps are done.

No other class can do that and it’s been going on for long enough, either traps or longbow damage needs to be nerfed.

Then take a ranged weapon your self. It’s not like the long bow is an instant kill weapon.

Or any class that has a ranged weapon. I’ve seen thief with pistols take out DH, LB Rangers, necros, warriors, well everyone. It really is a l2p issue. The only time a trap DH is a problem, is when he’s on a point with a class that can heal him.other wise he should be a free kill.

So give up point to the DH, ok got it, this is how you lose games though.

I’m almost T1 gold, one.more win should do it, and I’ve not played trap guard at all because of how easy they are to beat.

I’ve already posted and explained how trap damage isn’t as high as people say it is, but allow me to explain further on your specific question based on the profession being played.

  • Warrior – you can melee the DH using skills such as endure pain to survive the trap burst.
  • Guardian – should be an even match-up.
  • Revenant – use weapon skills to safely trigger traps.
  • Thief – Evade obvious placement of traps.
  • Ranger – send in pets to trigger traps.
  • Engineer – block burst from traps.
  • Necro – escape burst from traps using stability.
  • Ele – plenty of sustain to deal with traps.
  • Mesmer – use clones to trigger traps.

As you can see, every class has the options to deal with a DH. Try playing DH for a bit in unranked using the meta builds, and see for yourself how they operate. If you give this an honest try you’ll easily be able to detect what skills to look out for and how to predict how they are going to act in a fight. And please refer to my previous post explaining how traps are not as OP as everyone claims.

Traps are part of the problem but not sole. I don’t understand why do you think that once one dealt with traps in the fight the fight is won. Also, yes, you can trigger traps but they remain there and deal damage to whoever stands on point. It is not like ToF will magically disappear just because you dodged through it.

Once again, bringing up broken classes as example for balancing is wrong. So bottom line you want necros to be as broken as DHs and warriors. This is NOT how balancing works. I think this thread can be closed now.

How do you counter thief when they perma evade and yet do backstabs for 10k? How to counter steal when it is a ranged instant cast ability with no visual tell? Hkw to counter mesmer when they are constantly blocking or evading or immune and yet their clones deal serious damahe whilst this is going on.

The point is that nothing in gw2 can be countered. That is how the game is designed. Build wars where you spam all your kitten and see who wins. All we are asking for is a level playing field. Much of what has been said about necro can also be applied to rev but on a slightly less level. It has counter play to it which makes it bad.

I tried running dozens of created core necro specs and they almost all suck. So do a ton of repear specs i tried. The sad fact is that to do well in this game you need uncounterable stuff. As such, the best necro specs are based on passive proc traits either signets or other procs. The game in general is lame and skillless

- thieves don’t have perma evade, it is limited by resources (ini, endurance) and there is frame between evades where you can hit them – literary a l2p issue here. Not to mention thieves literary have nothing else going for them – you hit them once they either die or have to bail.

- thieves don’t hit anyone for 10k backstabs unless they have 25 might stacks and target has 25 stacks of vulnerability, which is unrealistic unless it is outnumbered situation in which you would die anyway. On mes best backstabs i got was like 7k, no way it would happen vs necro that applies perma weakness on target. Also backstab is currently worst dmg for thief (and it has a CD kek), you don’t die to backstab, you die to AA and IP lol.

- steal doesn’t one shot anyone? Also, you can still block, go invul, blind or simply dodge steal. If you were good, you would know how to predict it. How do you counter second HP bar and trait procs from necros that have literary no visual clue – here you go.

- mesmers don’t really have high access to resistance. They also don’t block constantly. They have a block on long CD, if you attack them while they are blocking you give them second block – l2p issue right here. Mes has disort and sword 2 that is it. Both are on relative long CD so it is not perma. There is plenty of frames where you can murder them. Also, as necro you can just transfer all they throw at you back….. (i personally just consume condis). The only moronic thing about mes is double moa really.

I have a friend that plays exclusively necro and he is doing just fine vs most classes.

As a Guardian I can tell you that my traps are about the weakest thing ever if played against a good player.

Ranger can sent in his pet.
Engineer can sent in his Gyro.
You can dodge roll trough them to trigger trap and then buzz off.
You can use any form of block to avoid it.

The only unblockable trap is Test of Faith, the others are just as easy as it is.

I had really good Thieves beating my bum, because they dodges 24/7 my traps, triggered them with about anything I can think off, yet no damage they take.

People talk about how OP Traps are or how much damage they do. Ever played at Legendary? Traps are rarely triggered and do damage, because the real good players knows how to dodge them.

And truely, a Dragonhunter without the damage from his traps is like a naked unicorn trying to cuddle you to death.

And yet plat and legendary is flooded with DHs and warriors….. clearly DH spec is not an issue, right?

The OP (Original Poster) was talking about trap damage… which is negotiable if played well, I’m not stating DH is weak. Just pointing out to the OP that there is no need to nerf the trap damage.

trap stacking (2 of the same trap on points) + trap size is part of the issue though…. yes you can dodge through them or send your pet but you are still forced off point for long enough to lose the point (unless you are tanky bruiser)

Exactly, it’s same for DH and warriors now, why should it only be okay for those classes to have those constant boons?

The only thing is that DH is mainly block, and warrior is mainly resistance, but both have a lot of stability.

I wouldn’t want resistance on necro cause they can already cleanse and transfer a lot.
But more stablity and a bit of block really wouldn’t be that much luxury.

Nobody says that DHs and wars are OK. Look at pvp section, there is constantly complains about those classes.

I am confused about how you landed in bronze. I played 2 accounts this season just to test out placement, this account doesn’t even HoT lol. Main account placed in low plat with 6-4, this account placed in high gold with 8-2 (i played them all solo on a thief o.o). How do you land in bronze? I can understand gold or silver, but bronze????

And yet a decent bunker Ele can hold a capped point vs 2 players indefinitely while his team mates can 4v3 elsewhere.

Or in a team fight can keep DPS classes alive so well the DPS team mates can smash enemies.

Im personally very happy when I see an Ele on my team and get nervous when I see an ele on enemy team. Doesn’t sound like Ele is the worst class in the game.
