I dueled a condi mesmer with my core condi, and after I got used to dodging the shatters and timing my condi burst, I was able to beat him every time. It was always a long, drawn out match with both of us loading each other with condis and hiding in stealth alot, but it became easier and easier to beat him 1v1.
But my opinion probably doesn’t matter, cause I also always beat the old turret engis. You know, those guys that had 1 condi cleanse and were completely helpless if you destroyed their turrets.
Single target vs. Aoe. Qol. Not make it a risk/reward factor. No dude, no. I don’t want engi to be easier for you to alt it. I want engi to require skill and class knowledge. So that those who play engi, really, can give up sustain for dmg because they are familiar with how to stay alive.
I’ve mained Engi since launch buddy. Don’t confuse AoE with piercing, not the same. Also, I play core Engi, not Scrapper like youself, and don’t want this nice QoL change that once belonged to core Engineers to be locked behind the Scrapper traitline just because some random guy thinks it’ll introduce more risk/reward.
The more I play Skyhammer the more irritated I get at all of the empty space. All of the spaced that serve absolutely zero purpose. The bottom tier of the map, that you cannot get back up to without going around (removal of jump pads) do something with this area. Make it worthwhile to be there or something that needs to be defended. How about this? Combine both maps. Add capture orbs to skyhammer. Both maps feel pretty bland as it is without enough secondary objectives.
Or add, who ever controls skyhammer also spawns a neutral mob on their side of the map.
Yea, the map definitely feels very empty and the bottom areas with the removed jump pad are just an annoyance unless you’re a class with a blink/teleport.
Yeah, I do agree with that. Not sure why those jump pads were removed. Either the terrain there needs to be changed, or the jump pads need to be brought back.
As for those jump pads in general, having them function more like the jump pads at Tequatl would be more reliable.
We’re looking into the wrong base thing, since the spawn detection is not team-specific.
As for noticing the match start, I was thinking about playing the horn sound from match-ready. This would also fix people who minimize waiting for ready ups.
This would actually be awesome to have.
It was intentional. It’s in the patch notes. There is a little animation that plays on your character instead. I think it is a nice QoL change. Not to mention, it should be obvious that the match just started cause, you know, the gate opens.
scrappers are top tier. like they were before the patch. just less condis, and more power. insane amounts of sustain, and decent damage. same crap, different packaging (different amulet).
Less condis….what? It’s always been a power spec as far as the meta goes. And their survival and damage isn’t insane. It’s actually fairly balanced. Could probably still shave some damage off Hammer still, but it is in a pretty good spot. I think alot of that old bias is just still floating around.
Forgot about this thread. Just want to say after trying out the map changes, I absolutely love them. Just incredible really. And this is coming from an Engi that has pulled and pushed many a people off Skyhammer.
On Skyhammer specifically, I thought it was going to destroy the map I loved (that’s right I liked it). But with these new changes, it is now my absolute favorite map, and I love that others are enjoying it to. The changes to the Skyhammer laser, just incredible. Really feels like an important mechanic now.
Again, just absolutely love the map changes.
Tier 0: Condi Mesmer, Power Rev
Tier 1: Auramancer, Bunker Druid
Tier 2: Condi Reaper, Thief/DD
Tier 3: Scrappers, Warriors/Zerkers, Guardian/DH
Don’t count Scrappers out so easily. I think they’d easily fit into Tier 2 on your list. Been playing basically the same Scrapper build, just swapping out Paladin’s ammy for Mender’s and Slick Shoes for Blast Gyro, and it works great still.
5 years from now we will have enough of them for all the builds of the different professions to be recognized. Maybe. Hopefully. Someday.
The first Elite Spec for Engineer that comes with a kit rather than multiple utilities is going to be the last Elite Spec it’ll ever want.
I really hope no new kits are ever introduced. I’d rather see useful utilities, and reworks to some of our dead utilities (Gadgets and Turrets).
They already mentioned some rather long time ago that engi gets an legendary effect overhaul after they’re done with wvw.
If this is true that would be incredible.
There is no reason at all to put a trait in the Scrapper line for pistol piercing. That would be horrendous. It just needs to be made baseline, or merged with one of the pistol traits in Firearms. The only effect it will have is making the pistol more capable of sustaining condi pressure against multiple targets that are grouped together. So mostly looking at QoL improvements for PvE with that. And it would only effect pistol 1 and 2, so not really a big deal just, again, a QoL improvement.
It is only an issue for pvp, and it’s really not that bad. Of the two increased cast times, I think sneak gyro makes less sense. The other gyros insta activate, why does sneak have cast time?
Agree with ya, Healing Turret cast time really isn’t a big issue, and was warranted. People just not use to carelessly using it. I think in time, nobody will care anymore.
As for Sneak Gyro, having the cast time added to it HAD to happen. People were just using it every time they got locked down in a bad situation, using it sorta like a stun break. now with the cast time, you can’t use it while stunned and it requires a bit more thought to use. I feal Sneak Gyro is FINALLY in a good spot and wouldn’t expect Anet to make any further changes to the skill.
Also, with the recent changes, we’ll have a lot less QQ directed at Scrappers.
I would love to see more game modes. I personally would love to see capture-the-flag type maps.
Distracting how. Sounds more like just an ego issue. You don’t want someone to get a kill on you, even if the match is over. You want to kill the fun for everyone else in the match that just wants to play a bit longer because you’re too insecure to just let your character die while you’re checking the stats.
Condi Mesmer/Chrono is a cheap build and no fun to fight against, but I wouldn’t call it OP. More just annoying.
I’d say Thief requires the most skill. Hardly ever fight good thieves, and you can really tell the difference between your typical Thief and an actual good Thief.
Core Engi is next. Scrapper is still pretty forgiving, so really can’t say it requires much skill.
Mesmers used to require skill, and I’d say power Mesmers still do. But condi Mesmer and Chronos are just faceroll.
Rangers / Druids are both very forgiving. If you are firing into reflects, that just shows your lack of skill concerning basic game mechanics and awareness.
Contrary to popular belief, Necros / Reapers do require some skill to be decent. They lack active defenses and are easy to focus. Without good postioning and awareness, it is really easy to focus down a Necro / Reaper.
As for the rest, can’t speak much for them as I haven’t spent much time on other professions.
Some people do not care about looking at the stats. Fighting people is fun. Maybe they just want to squeeze in a bit more fun before waiting for the next match, maybe they want to see their finisher again. Point is, why do you care? Match is over, you’re looking at scoreboard, someone killing you does not stop you from doing that.
Pistol piercing needs to come back. Would love to see it baseline.
Yeah, I’m currently in Guatemala playing with insane lag. But I made a Scrapper build with Medic Gyro, Elixir Gun, Bulwark Gyro, Purge Gyro, and Sneak Gyro with Mender’s amulet and I haven’t had any issues at all surviving and doing damage. Also still use Healing turret on non-gyro builds and having no issues getting my heal off.
Healing Turret and Sneak Gyro buffs were needed.
A few things that don’t make sense to me…
- Deathly Chill nerf. Of course it needed to happen, but why completely overdo it? With it now causing bleeds instead of chill damage, the trait took a huge hit on damage and now is more easily cleansed since it will just stack with the rest of the bleeds.
- Slick Shoes, also needed a nerf, but again overdone. Would have been much simpler to have the slick shoes puddle consumed when it cc’d a player, that way the same puddle couldn’t chain cc a player. But now once you are hit by it you can completely ignore it, and this skill is nothing more than a tickle of you have stability. Also, this really hurt Engies in PvE for no reason.
- Gadget buffs, I feel like they weren’t even trying with this. It’s like they don’t even understand why gadgets obsolete in the Engineer’s kitten nal.
Yeah, I love how any nerfs to Reaper have been conveniently left out here.
It’s like this Anari. You jumped into our game
Do you have a mouse in your pocket, or are you implying your one of the anet staff members?
with a blindfold on talking up a storm about how great and experienced you are, then proceeded to propose absurd changes in multiple threads that suggest you have no knowledge of this game. Then you proceed to talk down to anyone that disagrees with you (had to report a couple of your posts and have them removed) or just plain ignore them. Now here you are telling us that we should provide evidence concerning your lack of experience.
Wrong. It was not mentioned until either today or yesterday. I’ve been on these forums for some time now.
The Changes i purpose are absurd? You mean actually bringing a Guardian to 1 million healing a game, when it has 3 specs dedicated (or partially) to healing, yet does not heal a 4th of what the other classes do; to a Rate which is competitive to the others, and that is Absurd?
If it is absurd to bring “balance” to the classes, you sir need to leave this industry, because you clearly dont know what you are doing.
I say no good sir, you done that job for us by plastering it all over our forums. You want people to take you seriously, you’re gonna have to prove to us that you can actually do what you claim to do, cause so far all we’ve seen is nonsense.
Lets be real here. Your opinion means nothing to me, and the likelyhood that this studio or any other one will listen even if i provide my credentials is nonexistent. So i’ll make a deal with you.
Go Write up a legal document granting my creative rights over GW2, and have the CEO, Board members sign it and present it to me and ill give you my credentials.
Until you do this, I’m not interested in providing you with any form of information.Of course, you’re always more than welcome to keep trying to make crazy balance changes, just don’t expect the community’s attitude toward your ideas to change when you can’t even be bothered to meet these people halfway.
P.S. – Most people refuse to provide proof of their experience when it either a) doesn’t exist or b) doesn’t live up to what they’ve claimed it to be. Not a personal attack or insult, just a general observation buddy.
I guess “i dont care about your opinions” is not clear to you. I think you dont understand my position and reason on these forums. So let me explain.
1 – My primary objective is to try to reason with the development team (which are generally hiding on alt forum accounts, as you know from your practice of this method)
2 – I mentioned i had 5 years invested in studying games, but did i mention anywhere i stopped?
3 – Interaction the forums helps me understand people. One of the big points of our game when it comes out will be a completely new forum concept. In fact, iv actually considered making this a big thing for our IT off company, to develop a forum concept that does not really require mods to read posts, or have to deal with multiple posts on the same topic.
Discussion with people on forums helps me understand the management system of a forum, and that gives me something to study for this new software technology we are working on.
“Our game” as in the game we were playing and you were not. Twist it however you want though.
Yes, if we’re going to drop technicalities on this thing you didn’t immediately mention your experience when you came to the these forums a month ago, that was just when when you started spouting absurd balance changes. And yes, they are absurd. You have no concept of “balance” in this game, sorry.
And lets be real here, I could care less what you think of my opinions. Was simply trying to explain to you how you are coming off to others, cause you really seem to have a hard time properly interacting with others.
In fact at this point I’m pretty sure you’re just an elaborate troll, in which case kudos to you, very well done. But now the proper thing to do is just wait until your silly posts inevitably fall off the front page of the forums. ^.^
@ Anari
If you’d been around long enough you’d know that the players have offered many great suggestions in the past, most of which never make it in game. Some good suggestions have of course, and some bad suggestions have as well. But the majority of what has made it into the game has not been what the players asked for. They have been decisions made by Anet. Some good, some bad of course. But to say they are just doing whatever players suggest instead of doing their job is just plain incorrect. But of course, you wouldn’t know that cause again, you haven’t been around that long and are clueless as to what has been going on here and even more clueless as to what changes need to be made to the game.
That’s funny because a mutli-legendary was just telling me that he and another person were directly involved in the balance choices of the game, In fact he stated very clearly
“the devs listen to this (player name) person for all the balance for the game and they pretty much do what he says”. Im not saying he is dong the balance himself, but im pretty sure that they are not doing all they can to fix the issues (if what gazzy says is true).Additionally, If the devs were doing balance based on psychology and metrics like they should be, then we would not be seeing massive amounts of instabilities like this, especially if anet has their own “amazing Specialist team” full of statistics majors etc working on it.
What i learn from this is most likely 1-2 people are doing the balance on this game, likely with some decent level of math background. It’s been the norm in the past, because the specialist needed to make a game well balanced are not cheap (if you get a good one anyways) so i’m willing to bet john the coder back in the content box is not only making pretty dungeons with flowers, but is also running numbers for the balance based on what gazzy, john or who ever says.
So you are basing your statements off of assumptions and what a couple of guys told you vs what has actually happened over the past few years in the game……….
Seems like sound logic to me. Can’t possibly argue with those facts there.
Lmao, I love you man. I sincerely do. ^.^
I’ve been around this game quite a while and many other games too. And I see the same whining in here (called suggestions) that I see from multiple player bases in other games. Coincidence?
But, I could make a suggestion about allowing a warrior to have a one shot kill type skill and nerf it nerf it nerf it! And, if they did, warrior would be even less attractive to play that apparently it is now.
So, I’d say beef up the warriors a bit. It’s as good a suggestion as any other player (busy telling me how clueless I am) and it might not make it into the game. So, why wouldn’t it make it into the game? It’s a good suggestion. Why not put in game?
Maybe they are doing something else for warrior even better or maybe not so good.
But, no, devs don’t do their jobs, do they? So, here we are, needing the player base to tell them how to build characters, how to nerf them to our satisfaction — well, not really. Balance will never be achieved because your perception of balance is different than mine. So, if I think the game is imbalanced and you don’t, what do the poor devs do — besides their jobs apparently?
Players aren’t equal. Characters will never be perceived balanced between the skill levels of players. Devs know this. They know this even better than I do. They know this and they develop characters of varying degrees of complexity for the challenge and enjoyment of a diverse player base. You can balanced characters, but you can never have “balance” between players. Players are not equal and never will be.
To clear things up in case you thought my post was in response to you, it wasn’t. I had to go back and specify that since your post went through as I was typing mine. Just to clear up any confusion there. ;-P

GW2 will never be balanced because it’s not intended to be.
There are multiple incidents of devs saying that they change things to “keep the meta moving” or similar statements. Classes and styles (condi, power, cc ) are made deliberately OP because that keeps people grinding/buying new gear.
Personally, I think this is very bad policy.. but it is born out in the way classes rotate to the top of the heap. I suspect Warrior is next in line. Perhaps we’ll see a return of the Hambow meta.
Its a horrid policy.
Cyclical Design would do this naturally if hey would balance it. The player should be doing this (like in league) Not the developers.
I am really sick of the other professionals in my industry. Coders thinking they know better about a game, while i sit and watch company after company die.
I am certain this will help with this game, a mass exodus will take place. I Believe it wont take long either, because i’m already hearing from many people in my guild
“i just play now and then, i’m really tired of the pvp unbalance of gw2, and the pve is garbage” or similar statements like that.Anet is badly in need of a designer that knows their stuff. Good luck finding one, i know 4 of them exist in the industry, and i’m one of them.
You’re one of them eh? According to your "proposed changes " in your other threads, you have shown nothing to prove such a statement.
You tell me to learn to play, but you dont even know that said classes have pierce effects that can go through said blocks, right?
Pierce doesn’t go through block it’s actually stopped by it. DH has 3 on LB that is unblockable, warrior has signet of might, ranger has nothing.
Data on Wiki Does not agree with this.
How much experience have you had with this game? I mean, the effects of piercing has been common knowledge forever now.
Really confusing when you claim to know what you are talking about and reference your experience as a developer, and then propose absurd balance changes and make blantantly false comments such as the effects of piercing.
I’m all for class reworks, but things like saying condi application is a problem, and then proposing an increase in cleanses instead of, you know, just toning down condi application……just really hard to take anything you say here seriously.
You Misunderstand my positions i recommend more thought, and questioning if you dont understand it.
Condition application is not a problem because its applied, its a problem because there is no dependable counter to it. for me play and counter play are foundational concepts, if you dont have one you should not have the other. Thus i did not say (or mean) conditions are a problem, 1 cleanse every 10 seconds is.
Necro does twice the damage of other classes because of power/codition combination amulets, which is why i suggested that there should only be 1 stay on amulets, not 2-3.
I can see your point there as well, but the answer isn’t to just toss out cleanses like candy. That just promotes mindless condi cleanse spamming. And sorry, but Necro does not achieve twice the damage, that is a gross exaggeration. And responding to people with personal insults is hardly an appropriate response from someone trying to take a professional approach at this, and is also against forum rules here buddy. Your proposed changes so far have been over the top and only create more imbalances. With every post it becomes more apparent you do not have a proper understanding of this game. Maybe just stick to WoW? You seem to enjoy that. ^.^

Capes wouldn’t be bad.
Whatever you do, don’t remove the panels around A and C. However, it needs to be more obvious that they are about to break. Having the panels turn red before they break for instance would be great. Having them break only by cannon fire is also great as it encourages more teamwork.
Jump pads definitely need work. If you hae any sort of lag you could be spending forever trying to jump up one. Having them work like the Tequatl jump pads or bouncing mushrooms would be a great fix (aka they succesfully bounce you to a set destination every time).
As for skyhammer, I personally feel the damage and recharge is just fine. It has a long wind up and obvious tell, I never have any issues dodging it unless the enemy is coordinating cc. But I feel that is the way it should be anyways. As for the entrance, it qould be nice to have some short invuln when passing through the gate so we can’t be instantly ganked the second we come through. Increasing the size of the platform and adding los objects is good and all, just don’t feel like it is necessary. Not opposed to it though.
You know, it’s funny. Both the Chrono moa and Engi moa can be cast twice in a row.
Anyways, sure Moa is strong but consider some things first. In a 1v1, you know when it is coming most the time and can at least dodge it. In a group fight, you can escape as moa. If you can’t escape, then that is because you are being focused and you would of died even if you weren’t moa’d. If you happen to play something that wouldn’t die even if focused by enemy team, well then moa was made exactly for your class and you deserved to be moa’d.
P.S. – I do not play Mesmer.
Can someone invite me to the guild. I always forget to try and join when I’m in game, and I’m sure the guild could come in handy when my winning streak finally stops.
1. Biggest offender here aka Rocket Charge – remove leap finisher
Its main reason what makes scrapper so broken, triple leap finisher in water field? Yes please..
2. Perfectly Weighted – remove stability
Engineer was supposed to be weak to cc so im not sure what so high stab uptime doing here
3. Rapid Regeneration – halve the amount of healing but increase scaling.
Atm theres no point to get healing power on engineer. It scales like kitten while the base regen is quite high.
4. Add cast time to Sneak Gyro so it cant be used under cc
Cus its pure bs and free reset button if you dont have reveal.
Feel free to flame /shrug
1. Reducing to only having a leap finisher on the first leap is a great idea.
2. Who decided Scrapper was supposed to be weak to CC. The spec is designed to fight in melee. Trait is fine as is.
Definitely agree with 3 and 4.
Btw, I say all this with more hours played on my Engi than any other class.
Can’t speak for Herald, but the Scrapper can tango in melee due to passive hp regeneration and defensive utilities on hammer, especially when combined with combo fields.
I kill Reapers on my power Ranger all day man. Maybe your Chrono is broken, or maybe you just have no idea what you are talking about and came here to rant?
So I hit my head and went back to playing my necro cause he also has a greatsword. Thinking I’d stay necro forever i left the guild. Then I got tired of swinging my greatsword in slow motion, and remembered why I loved my ranger so much. Please forgive my transgressions against the ranger and accept me back into the glorious guild. ^.^
People use the word “spam” way too loosely. 1 Reaper can spawn at most 6 of those Shambling Horrors, and only if they hit 5 targets. The skill is no more mindless than any other skill in the game, and they are easy to destroy in a teamfight. I get you all are on a witch hunt against Reapers, but these nerf requests are getting ridiculous.
2 necros that’s 12. With 1 shout. Plus Death Nova, Plus Bone minion. = ?
if they hit 5 targets? LOL. Mesmer clones? Pets? other AIs? Other Minions? Gyros? It is very easyyyy to cap…
Whoah whoah whoah, we were talking non-mm reapers here using a shout. Can’t just throw in Death Magic. And anyways, multiple mesmers have been causing clutter since the dawn of the game. But I get it, DOWN WITH REAPERS right? I’ll go grab my pitchfork and tin foil hat. ^.^
Clones disappear when shattered tho. Can be easily killed, way easier than minions.
Minions cleave down quite easily too.
Shambling only live for 25s if they aren’t aoed down before then.
Full MM’s sacrifice other utilities for the minion build.Edit: Granted, if you have multiple MMs on the opponent team, it can be extremely annoying. However, it’s not any more annoying than having multiple mesmers against you, especially running chronophantasma and illusionary reversion. Ugh.
Thank you

Amazing how fast this gets thrown to page 2. It’s like people would rather complain about thing they really have no clue about and point fingers, rather than proactively try to make a better experience for themselves. Just……..incredible.
Who is complaining here save you? I see a lot of ppl showing a lot of positivism. How is it bad that such a thread grow in size? I just don’t get it.
Did you read at all? I am obviously talking about all of the negative threads in the PvP forums. I love this post and would love nothing more than for it to stay on front page. If you don’t understand something, please ask for clarification first buddy.
Then why pick the ONE positive thread to say that and see it reaching page 2 as something bad?
What? Ok, to break it down for ya…I am stating that it saddens me that people would rather create thread after thread of complaint topics, which pushes this topic off the first page soon to be forgotten, instead of contributing to or creating threads such as this wonderful thread. I don’t think I can break that down any clearer for you.
I then apologize to have misunderstood you. Sincerely.
No problem. So long as we are able to get as many people that have it rough this season into the guild or similar guilds. This system greatly benefits teams queueing together, and guilds like these help create better pvp experiences for everyone.
Sure the lord could use some more hp, but you are severely over-exaggerating the issue. In this map, you have 3 capture points and 2 gates to defend. Obviously you can’t defend them all, so you need to prioritize and properly rotate. You should know, that if you are in the lead and the enemy team is nearing 350 points, that they will make a run for the lord. So if they made it to the lord and you failed to stop them, then that is your team’s fault.
You could reasonably argue that this is too easy and too rewarding of a comeback method sure. But if the lord was too difficult to take down without players defending him, then there would be no way anyone would get a lord kill when players are defending him, and then it would become a worthless mechanic.
There is also the point that was already made above, that your team should of had ample opportunity to take out the enemy’s lord when you reached around 350, yet you neglected or failed to do so.
Amazing how fast this gets thrown to page 2. It’s like people would rather complain about thing they really have no clue about and point fingers, rather than proactively try to make a better experience for themselves. Just……..incredible.

As mentioned, the problem goes much much further than boon corruption. CC, damage, boon spamming, it has all reached crazy levels. I mean, in pve you don’t even blast fire fields for might anymore, you just make sure to bring warrior/rev.
So yes, as a Necro I am saying boon corrupt on scepter auto was a baffling change, and I’m sure they only introduced it so that we could drop Spite and signets and pick up Curses and corruptions instead while maintaining our great boon corruption.
That being said, you can not nerf a symptom of the problem until you take care of the problem’s roots, which involves nerfs to Rev, Druid, Scrapper, and Tempest.
Why is this not on the front page? All the people complaining about horrible losing streaks need to see this.
