Not sure if it works like this in GW2 or not but if you go on a long enough win streak the system should become “unsure” of your rating and your gains should start to go up again.
It does not do this. You can have a 90+% winrate and stale out. Don’t play ranked for 3+ days and your volatility will go up giving you more points per win/loss.
I believe they said your volatility will not go up this season if you stop playing for a bit. So this wouldn’t work anymore.
Since Heavy Metal Ranger has been confirmed I think it’s time we discussed dual shield Guardian. I want to be able to sit in my safe space and never take damage.
That’s fine with me, since the Heavy Metal Ranger will have unblockable attacks clearly.
if everyone and her mother have unblockable atacks and blocks not block next steep is give everyone and her mother unevadable atacks and make evades dont evade…
Good idea. The Heavy Metal Ranger will now also have un-evadable attacks.
I thought that buff was only ever active during during the ESL tournaments? If so, that would be why. ESL tournaments are no longer a thing.
As your rating settles to more accurately represent your skill level, your gains/losses will drop so that you don’t have erratic deviations from your settled rating. You can of course still progress up and down the ladder and settle into a new rating.
Please refer to updated version in Sigil v2 thread.
For……?
I like the second set of suggestions more than the first.
A suggestion for future balancing with these sigils would be to look at amulets like Deadshot with condi, vitality, expertise, and precision. An amulet like that was based on crit to trigger on crit sigils if I’m not mistaken. I would consider changing the precision to power to better reflect the removal of on crit sigils.
That would be a bad change as many condi classes have on crit traits that proc more conditions or needed effects, such as the Necro Plague Sending and Withered Precision and Engineer Barbed Precision and burn proc trait.
If anyone, the reveal sigil is going to hurt Sneak Gyro more than anything else in the game.
No it won’t. The sigil as per dev post will only cause 1/4th sec or so reveal. Sneak Gyro pulses stealth.
Using the sigil on a Sgyro will just reveal the engi for a second before he disappears again. The class that the sigil will have the most use against is druid.
But honestly the sigil isn’t really worth taking because it’s such a niche pick. Most overhyped thing ever.
Reveal Scrapper, knockback away from gyro and cc/destroy gyro, destroy gyro then weapon swap to reveal scrapper, or just reveal scrapper then condi bomb. I’m not saying it will destroy Sneak Gyro, I’m saying it will have the largest impact on Sneak Gyro.
Of course the biggest impact will be revealing a downed player so you can get the stomp off when a Scrapper is trying to stealth ress. Is it overhyped a bit? Sure, Thieves are going crazy about it for no reason. However, stealth ressing is very common right now and this will provide a reasonable counter.
We are currently attempting to see if we can get in game tournaments put back in the game. The Devs seem to be for the idea so far, so that would give teams a place to compete without worrying about the queues for a team queue being empty.

These are looking great so far! I’m definitely looking forward to this even more now. Love the change to Sigil of Escape.
So a dual longbow with the animation of the character head banging each time they shoot a bow?
I can imagine rapid fire right now with dual longbows on a ranger!
Thanks for the image Ben, it cannot be unseen….Perhaps I will suggest it to Karl as a new elite spec. Heavy Metal Ranger.
Heavy Metal Ranger confirmed for next expansion! Can’t wait! Will it be condi focused or heavy aoe damage focused?
So should we expect this change during the next balance patch, or next expansion?
Yo Anet, think we could have this in between season 6 and 7?
Reveal in 240 radius!? If only thieves could shadowstep away before stealthing..
The on swap type sigils only work while in combat, and with the upcoming sigil balance most classes can’t burst down thieves so quickly before a “stealth reset” (no more free proc damage).
And thieves can stealth pretty well. What could be the next suggestion?
“I have worked so hard to stack my boons and a necro corrupted my efforts, make boon corrupt a 2sec negation to the oterwise converted boons, to have back my 25 might” ?CD on sigil is by far lower than CD on shs…….
You want next suggestion? I want a sigil that disables blocks, invuls, heals and immunities in small aoe on non-thieves on crit hit. Fits just fine with revealed sigil.
@Shaogin.2679: because hot specs made spells like RF and core thief specs already extremely undesirable thanks to reveals. Additional reveal on demand on short CD on top of it is overkill. Anet keeps adding hardcounters to entire class mechanic but only for one class (thieves in this case) and somehow doesn’t do it for other classes. I personally would love if thieves had ability to make whole team see traps and disable traps/gyros. Fits right into same category as reveals on demand.
This sigil won’t really mess with Thieves though. If anyone, the reveal sigil is going to hurt Sneak Gyro more than anything else in the game.
Maybe instead you should take this opportunity to ask that other reveal sources be nerfed since players will have access to reveal on the sigil.
Isn’t the same guy doing it in two different games a little suspicious though?
Not really. If he has a bad connection, it’s not gonna fix itself between games.
The two games were 10-12 hours apart.
And? Some people just have crappy Internet man.
And @Everyone crying about reduced diversity, not really. ANet has the numbers, most of the sigils aren’t being used currently. Just because there are more now than there will be doesn’t mean diversity will be reduced if currently players are only using a small portion of the available sigils
They have also stated they will be having a balance patch alongside the sigil updates. This is a huge move, but definitely a move in the right direction. You can’t even say they are simplifying things. Go take a look at something like metabattle and tell me all the sigil diversity you see there.
We all mostly use the same crap for everything because it is the best, plain and simple. This is a move to help cut out on the random proc damage and effects, get rid of the clutter of useless sigils, and start fresh with sigils that make sense.
Tell me, what sigils are you worried to see go that is making this such a big deal for you?
Why remove sigils if they aren’t being used and aren’t broken? If they aren’t used isn’t it wasted effort to remove them? Why even have this conversation? Removing options reduces player choice. You may not use many of these options but I would say I use a good 75% of sigils. And removing entire categories of sigils (kill stacking, condition duration, on crit) simplifies what a sigil is, and can do in PvP. For what purpose? I don’t think reducing power creep is a compelling reason to remove these sigils. If sustain needs to be nerfed, that can be done without trivializing sigils.
Think of it as a way to start fresh. I highly doubt that over time they won’t continue adding more sigils back in to the selection. But the first step for them to revamp sigils was to scrap the old system. Plain and simple, it sucked. Some sigils performed extremely well, while many sigils were total garbage. Entire categories of sigils didn’t make much sense in a PvP environment such as the “on kill” sigils, and other sigils gave too much of a benefit for how random they were, such as “on crit” sigils.
I think once people get of the hysteria of change and adapt to everything, they’ll see this was actually a good change for the game.
As mentioned above, one of the main reasons for this happening was due to players playing the majority of the match with their main, then swapping to a class they don’t play well right before the win to get the achievement.
Also, really not good gameplay at all to be able to swap in the middle of a match just so you can counter someone’s specific build. If your team fails to swap at the start to give your team a decent comp to play with, then that is all on your team.
Anet wanted to lock class swapping completely and open up the door for class stacking limitations and class specific mmrs, but you guys didn’t want that. Anet also made it very clear that despite the poll results, they would not allow class swapping mid game or during the 10 second countdown. So stop complaining and enjoy what you asked for.
How do you know what i asked for? Assuming much?
Once again, the change didn’t do anything but profit teams that face players forced into profs they don’t play. One way or another, it is in a sense exploiting/abuse by Anet’s defintion. They didn’t fix anything but just made it worse.
I don’t assume anything, but maybe I should have been more clear. The last comment was direct more in a “you all” manner, being that the majority of players that I am not a part of voted against restricting class swapping.
And the system isn’t worse at all. It is still basically the same, as the players asked for, but now you can’t swap mid game to counter another player’s build, which you shouldn’t be allowed to do anyways. If your team can’t put together a decent comp to fight against the enemy’s comp (which you can clearly see aside from specific build) then that is a failure of the team. You can’t really blame anet for this. They explicitly stated what they were going to do, asked for player input, and followed through. None of this is Anet’s fault.
So GW2 is no longer being developed by the developers? Ok fine how about ANet release private servers to the game. So the players and modders then develop the game on their own servers. More then likely would do a million times better then ANet.
How do you go from, “Anet asked for player input” to “GW2 is no longer being developed by the devlopers”? You don’t have to really answer that, I get it already, doom and gloom, game dying, go play something else yadda yadda yadda your normal little speach right?
Also, the majority of “balance” suggestions in the pvp forums are just horrible, often due to a lack of knowledge or selfish motivations. So, no, I have no faith that a community-ran server would be much better.
Discarding an unused sigil is the path of least effort. The problem is this: If you add a new and untried entire class of sigils, you are introducing a large number of unknowns.
That more-or-less takes you back to square one in terms of balance. The ripple effects are unknown and potentially devastating.
In my opinion, that is a reckless and unjustified risk.
The wiser path would be to fix the sigils that are not commonly used. The ongoing trend toward simplifying the game risks removing the thing that makes GW2 so compelling, it’s mechanics.
They have also stated they will be having a balance patch alongside the sigil updates. This is a huge move, but definitely a move in the right direction. You can’t even say they are simplifying things. Go take a look at something like metabattle and tell me all the sigil diversity you see there.

Tell me, what sigils are you worried to see go that is making this such a big deal for you?
Going a little overboard worrying about this sigil. I mean come on, the enemy has to be:
- in combat
- have a weapon swap ready
- be within 240 distance from you
The last point is key. Aside from the moment you move in for an attack, when the hell are you in stealth and just standing right next to the enemy? I know I’m not, cause I don’t feel like getting hit by random cleave damage.
If anyone, this sigil is going to hurt Scrappers the most, so I have no idea why Thieves are complaining. Ya see, with such a short radius, this sigil will be primarily effective against stealth revives and Sneak Gyro. As a Druid, I can stay in Celestial Avatar until right before the stomp lands while ressing my teammate. This allows me to interrupt the stomp, continue reviving, and minimize the chance for an enemy to stop me with the sigil.
Scrappers however, can not do this due to Sneak Gyro not being instant cast. Sneak Gyro also, while stealthing the Scrapper, gives away the Scrapper’s relative position and gIves enemies a target to hit to enter combat. This makes it much easier to the Scrapper using Sneak Gyro with the sigil.
So unless you are a Scrapper, I’m really not sure what all the fuss is about.
What are they supposed to do? Track ESL players and make sure they’re not on the same team?
Well, going with the assumption that all the players in this match have a rating that properly reflects their skill, the matchmaker should do a better job of balancing out the two teams instead of placing all the higher rated players on one team on lower rated players on the other.
However, this is the start of the season and some people may be on an alt account, who knows? Maybe for whatever reason those random players are rated too high and the matchmaker thought it would be a good match? Without knowing the ratings of the players in the match, there is know way we can tell if this is the matchmaker failing at its job or if there are unknown variables that prevented the matchmaker from properly doing its job.
This is very interesting. With a decent balance patch, I can see these changes being a great step in the right direction. I can see a few different variations that could work on my druid, though it would be nice to get a bit of a larger selection.
As for people complaining about the reveal sigil, I don’t really get why. I mean, are you constantly in stealth in melee range of an enemy player? The biggest impact I feel the reveal sigil will have is countering stealth stomps/revives, and countering the Scrapper’s Sneak Gyro. However, I don’t think it will be a definitive counter. For example, on my Druid it means I just have to be smarter with my stealth revive, such as starting the revive in Celestial Avatar and waiting to leave to leave CA until right before the enemy completes the stomp. Or on my Scrapper, it gives the added challenge of avoiding melee range of enemy players while using Sneak Gyro.
Point is, in no way will the reveal sigil destroy stealth builds.
Yeah, afk’ers are going to afk no matter what since the report function doesn’t do anything. If a player is going to afk on my team, I’d rather they stay in the spawn than outside the spawn feeding the enemy team free points.
Yeah, I think increasing the shards per chest would be the best way to go.

There’s this button you can press. It’s default is [B] I believe. When you press that button, it lets you see what your opponent’s team comp is.
Before you start the match, you have about a minute to spare. This is known as the “Warm up”. You can run around the map to familiarize yourself with it, or spend that time strategizing with your team. You can also use that time to press B and see your opponents team and switch as needed.
Once the gates close and the 10 second timer begins, you can no longer swap characters.
I hope that helps, feel free to ask me any more questions if you need. I’m always happy to help newcomers to the game and PvP
Once again, why lock profs when prof stacking is not addressed?
But professions aren’t locked. Or at least, they’re not locked before the game starts. So why would they care about professions stacking when everyone is free to swap classes?
If you want to be a cheating cheater who swaps midgame, that’s another story.
Because you don’t know what builds enemy runs or your own team sometimes. If swapping mid match is cheating why didn’t whole pvp community not get banned for “cheating” since we all have been doing it for years now?
Once again, give me one good reason why profs should be locked during the match when prof stacking is not addressed.I think GM say you can’t switch character in the middle of a match now to prevent easy achievement with characters you didn’t play with. So if you’re strong on Warrior, you can’t use that to score a lot, then switch to Thief and get credits.
So you need to switch before match starts.
Let’s assume it is true, it would force players to play classes they don’t know for achieves and ruin matches for other players? Great solution…. it just provides easy wins for enemy team /facepalm.
As mentioned above, one of the main reasons for this happening was due to players playing the majority of the match with their main, then swapping to a class they don’t play well right before the win to get the achievement.

Is tp teleport. What teleport and/or blink does druid have?
Yes, tp means teleport. Druid staff 3.
Um, druid staff 3 is an evade, not a teleport. Much like scrapper hammer 3 actually.
Is tp teleport. What teleport and/or blink does druid have?
We also think automated tournaments would be neat. For viewership, we would have to re-implement the authorized shoutcaster program to allow certain people to stream the tournaments.
Which Kickstarter program do we sign up to get this ball rolling?
I hope Anet realizes now that they have posted in this thread, we are never gonna let it die. ;-)
Well that’s good then.
Anyone who finished last season with decay know how it works?
me: play in pvp and get a armor…cool
me now: play in pvp and spend gold to craft the armor…not cool
100 asc wep (and got stuff to craft 15-20 in storage) – 12+1 asc armor and lot of asc rings and so on..
so..what can pvp offer me now to play it.!!
If ridiculously cheap ascended armor is your only motivation to play PvP, then maybe it just isn’t for you? Some people enjoy PvP, and the shinies are just a bonus. Some people play to get better and climb up the leaderboard.
Fair point, but it’s not as bad with power builds. A power build at least gives the opponent a chance to dodge out and pop defenses. Sure, you might hit someone for up to 10k with a full-glass nade throw or something, but that’s the MOST you’ll get out of one skill. After that, they have a chance to react – dodge, LoS, move out of range, use blocks, invulns, defensive skills, counterattack with CC, etc.
Condi.. well, not every class has on-demand cleanse every few seconds. If I happen to catch someone with their cleanse on 4 to 5 s cooldown, they essentially get 1-shotted by condi-burst. There’s nothing they can do about it except hope a nearby ally will rez them once they go down.
(off topic: Why is “4dash5s” with a – instead of “dash” a censored word?
Every class doesn’t need on demand cleanse every 4-5 seconds. You just need access to decent condi cleanse and know how to properly time your cleanses.
Btw, all of those defenses you listed to avoiding power attacks, work for condi attacks as well. Conditions are not just magically applied, an attack has to connect. If I see an P/P Engi coming at me, I know to have a cleanse ready for his inevitable burst. I know if he is coming in close to me he’s probably going to try to blow torch.
Fact is, power attacks and condi attacks have the same counters with a few exceptions. Power damage can be additionally mitigated with toughness and protection. Condition damage however can be negated, not mitigated, through the use of condition cleanses and resistance. This gives power damage the advantage, since when you land a power attack, that’s it, the damage is done, it’s there. With a condi damage attack, you could land a big condi bomb, only to have have it completely cleansed and negated.
And again, the hammer scrapper, a power build, still performs leagues ahead of the condi engi build. This whole mindset that condition builds are dominating pvp is just plain false. Truth is, power builds have been and still are dominating pvp.
I used to play Power Rifle engi, but switched to condi because I was tired of losing.
It’s ridiculous how much easier and more effective condi burst is with p/p + traits (compared with Rifle, which is borderline unplayable). If it’s not cleansed, pistol 4 does literally 20k damage on its own. When you factor in Incendiary Ammo, Incendiary Powder, and other sources of condi, you basically melt people in 3-4 ticks.
If you catch a class with their cleanse on >5s cooldown, they are dead. Even if they DO have a cleanse available, sometimes it takes 2 or 3 seconds to move into a safe position and use the skill. In that time, they’ve lost 75% of their health.
IMO, this is too good for landing basically 1 skill without an obvious circle or tell to dodge.
Condi shouldn’t be burst. It should be attrition. I miss pre-condi patch combat, but .. what can you do? If you can’t beat ’em. Join em…. sigh.
Not sure who you are fighting that just let’s those burns tick on them like that, but I can only assume they are just plain bad or you jumped them while they were fighting someone else. In the event of the player being outnumbered, that happens no matter what build you are playing, and has nothing to do with the viability of condi engi.
Also, of condi engi is better than rifle engi, but that is because rifle engi is just plain bad in pvp right now. Fact still remains though that hammer scrapper is insanely better than condi engi and gasp it is a power build.
Also, condi is an alternative to power damage in this game. You guys need yo stop trying to force rules from other mmo’s on this game.
Well obviously there won’t be any way of convincing anyone that they weren’t cheated and simply failed to pay attention and be proactive. So, I guess we’ll just have less people playing season 6 from the sound of it. Oh well?
Condi Engi relies on burst condi application that is easy to cleanse. Condi Engi has not bee viable against skilled players due to lack of survival, and that has not changed.
Condi Trap Druid is a joke that is not viable anywhere in pvp. The build has no sustain, and if it were to spec for more sustain, it would lose significant damage.
Also, it is laughable to claim that condi warr beats power warr, condi engi beats power engi, condi druid beats power druid, or condi rev beats power rev. Even saying condi necro beats power necro is quite a stretch, as that one could go either way.
The only classes effectively using condi these days is warrior, mesmer, and necromancer, and warriors and necromancers tend to prefer power builds in general lately.
Really don’t understand where you are coming from with all of this false information, and I can only assume you must be trolling.
So Evan, this is totally happening then right?
On a side note, if finding shout casters is an issue (not sure if it is or not), would it be feasible so have certain anet employees designated as shout casters?
Last I recall, patch notes and important announcements such as “Hey guys, spend those shards now” are valuable to PvP players. So no problem man, you’re welcome. :-)
I spent my shards as soon as I got them, so ANet barely advertising the change in the shard system five days before nailing it didn’t affect me at all (anyway my ardent set remains unused due I already have 4 full ascended sets and I’m not sure about which stats to select). Yes, they announced it, but they were VERY sneaky because they have all the Season 5 to trumpet the change but they remained silent most of the season.
Also, ANet has a shady track record of being vocal about changes in the game in external sources as Reddit or Dulfy before to their own official forums. And I keep my point: Dulfy isn’t a source for PvP data at all.
Dulfy pulled that information from the forums though. It was on the forums. I simply mention Dulfy since I personally find it easier to find the information on there since it is all consolidated in one place. There was nothing sneaky about it.
Why would you need those pets for that? Between yourself and others, should have no problem keeping movement impairing conditions on enemies. I feel like you’re just kitten in your damage for no reason there.
Yeah, I think the only hope is to queue with a full group. We need to get a 5-man team.
So with this upcoming season, I’ll be on miltary orders and unable to play during the last week or two of the season. I will obviously end the season with a decayed rating.
Question is, when this season ends, will my badge represent my decayed rating or my actual rating? Also, my rating shown on the guild/friends leaderboard, will it be the decayed rating?
If it will use the decayed rating, is there any way Anet could toss out the decayed rating and use our actual rating when the season ends. Just feels like it would kinda suck to finish in gold or platinum but be displayed as a bronze/silver player until the next season just because I couldn’t play at the end of the season. :-/
Good idea, I’m gonna hijack this. Gold division Druid here, looking for duo partner.
Anet hasn’t always been the best about communicating. I’d suggest simply checking the gw2 dulfy every now and then, then you won’t miss out on important information next time. Really though, I haven’t played many mmo’s where I didn’t benefit from keeping up with the news through a 3rd party site.
Dulfy makes PvE content, which isn’t of interest for the PvP comunity, thanks.
Dulfy posts updates on any area of the game. It’s not Dulfy’s fault that most updates are centered around pvp. Not to mention, all announcements from anet, such a patch notes and important forum posts, are put up on Dulfy.
Last I recall, patch notes and important announcements such as “Hey guys, spend those shards now” are valuable to PvP players. So no problem man, you’re welcome. :-)
As for the changes, they needed to happen. The method for getting ascended gear in season 5 was stupid broken. It was insane how simple it was to get almost a full set of ascended gear, and I’m glad they changed it.
No. Wasn’t insane or wrong at all: was a perfectly limited and controled (at most 5 armor piece x season) time-gated way to ensure people from PvE with little interest in PvP to invest some time in thist game mode.
Was to some extent a perfect carrot: most of PvP players don’t care too much about PvE and for sure PvP gold rewards aren’t enough to fund the demands of high fractal gear, so the Seson 5 rewards would make fractals affordable for such guys. But the main target for the ascended PvP gear was the PvE comunity, to try to enlarge their PvP participation now that the Pro scene is dead. It worked: queues were surprisingly short and ranked mode was full of players at any hour.
Now, is Season 6 you need to play ~400 matches with a 50% w/r to get the same ascended shards, plus spending all the gold gains to make the same 5 armor pieces. Obviously the PvE players which want ascended gear WILL NOT play PvP to get the armor of weapons, because crafting is way faster (albeit more expensive) and don’t requiere dozens of hours playing with stranges.
The reality is that after the changes Season 6 lacks relevant rewards for PvErs and Fractals/Raids lacks interest to PvPers so now both communities can go and die alone in their respective niches.
As someone who crafted his first set of ascended gear, yes the reward method for season 5 was insane. I put in alot of time, gold, and materials to get my medium ascended armor. I pvp’d for a week to get almost a full set of light ascended armor. The difference was insane, plain and simple.
Also, fun fact, you do not need ascended armor to start fractals. Fun fact 2, ascended trinkets from laurel vendors will get you further into fractals. You do not need ridiculous rewards to start playing fractals.
Well, not everyone saw the announcement. Some of us have jobs and lives and and it’s not GuildWars 24/7…..Hence why it wasn’t clear to many of us. Even besides that, it’s still unfair and actually from you what you just pointed out, punishes people who don’t make this game their whole life.
Kinda silly to assume I play the game 24/7 and have no job or life to try and back up your point of view. I actually have a full time job, school, a wife and household, and military obligations. Yet it was very simple to read an announcement and say “Hey, I should spend my shards now.”
So, where was this announcement?
And even so, that doesn’t make it right…..
Glad you have time with all of that in your life to also keep up with a video game
I saw the announcement here on Dulfy, but it was also posted here on the forums that you are currently on. It took me about a minute to pull up the Dulfy site on my cell phone and realize these changes were coming.
This notice was posted about 5 days before the changes, was on the forums and Dulfy and probably any other gw2 news site or dev tracker. Not to mention, even if I had never even checked the forums or Dulfy at all, I constantly heard players talking about it in HotM map chat in the week before the patch.
Nobody here was cheated. If you failed to spend your shards, then you simply missed out on a good opportunity. This isn’t Anet’s fault. As for the changes, they needed to happen. The method for getting ascended gear in season 5 was stupid broken. It was insane how simple it was to get almost a full set of ascended gear, and I’m glad they changed it.

Actually just got this map twice in a row tonight. Knocked off a couple more achievements.
But why play hotjoin? Custom arenas I can get, but with a custom arena you shouldn’t have team swapping issues if you are using it to fight with your team against another team.
New players will likely pick Unranked or Ranked since they are the big buttons in your face that put you in a PvP match.
I just can’t understand the desire to play Hotjoin matches.
