Internet will be internet and masses will run around with pitchforks due to their inability to do so in real life(trust me they would if they could).

No they wouldn’t. :p
The vast majority of internet babies are far too cowardly to step out from behind their computer monitors to ever do such a thing.
The moment any possibility of real repercussions comes up, regardless of what those repercussions might actually be, the majority of internet trolls suddenly find a way to control themselves.
Kind of amazing really, when you look at it…

@Aerwyna
A noble sentiment. One that I agree with actually, and I honestly applaud you for it.
But, this is the internet we are talking about. The place where every mental-child can hide behind their computer monitors and say whatever they want without fear of repercussion.
It’s a sad state of affairs, really… Everyone with an axe to furiously grind, or who thinks that can do everything better then the people doing it, comes out in droves and screams like babies…
Why? Because they can.
All I can say is, unfortunately… so long as this Anonymity of the internet prevails, there is little we can do about the angry children who throw their temper-tantrums. If they get truly vitriolic in Map (or any other) chat, report them for Verbal Abuse.

What is the deal with wings?

I bought both the white and black wings because I liked them, and I like having the option to wear them is I so choose. I show them on my characters if I like the look.
No other reason needed.
End of discussion.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion on them, of course… but that doesn’t mean I have to give a crap about it. So every negative nancy who wants to try and shove their angry, disgusting, vitriol-laden opinions down my throat about those wings (or anything else I happen to like) can shove it someplace else for a change.

+1 for this idea!
Custom minions. Now, wouldn’t that be great!
From a technical standpoint, I dunno how feasible that would be, since minions tend to be one of the trickier things to program and work on. Even something as seemingly innocuous as being able to customize their appearance could have an effect on how much information is going between the servers and clients, which could cause no insignificant amount of lag in some cases.
This was the reason why Masterminds in City of Heroes were never able to customize their minions.
Of course, that was also a different (and older) game… If the technology behind Guild Wars 2 has advanced beyond such a problem, then great! I’m all for it!

Why does everyone hate Trahearne?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ShinjoNaomi.1896

ShinjoNaomi.1896

‘Stealing glory’ is something I don’t see Trahearne doing, no matter how many times I go through the Personal Story. And for everyone that keeps saying he does, I’ll keep saying this…
Show me, and everyone else, where he says ‘I killed Zhaitan.’ ‘That was all me.’ ‘Good thing I was there…’ or anything along those lines… Show us where everyone heaps praise upon him and ignores us, the players.

Trahearne’s role as leader of the Pact was necessary. The idea of the main character filling that role would have only well worked in a single player game, not an MMO.

As for his character, I find him no less annoying then a good deal of player characters out there. :p

Nice design… but really not a fan of how ANet insists on making skirts super flared out at the hips like tents / balloons / bells.

So you’d rather have legs clipping through the outfits… Gotcha.

Kinda a false dichotomy don’t you think? Also don’t put words in my mouth.

Why not have both (fitted & functioning)? It was achievable on the monk outfit with certain body types (before they “fixed” it)— it’s not as if they’ve expanded our selections of body types, so why not just make a fit for each one rather than building a lazy tent so we can shoehorn everything into one?

Then again, I guess we should just be happy that Charr / Asura got some love this time.

No, not false anything…
You see, it’s rather easy to hide a problem like legs clipping though a long dress by simply removing the texture of the legs past a certain point. This works all good and well for full, closed dresses like the Noble Count Outfit.
But the moment you make an outfit styled in a way that you can see those legs under it, problems seem to come up.
Now, there are ways to avoid that… One of them is to extend the dress out a little bit more. It’s the simplest fix to the problem… And when you are trying to finish/fix things on a deadline and/or with the least amount of recourses (which I am assuming is what they try and do since that’s what /everyone/ tries to do…) then guess what they are going to do…
There is very little ‘lazy’ about it… It’s ‘Get it done quickly.’ or more then likely ‘Fix it on your own time.’

On an only slightly related note… These are wedding dresses… And last time I was looking to wear one, they were all big and poofy. They are /supposed/ to look that way.

Interesting idea, but would definitely need a lot of tweaking and I’m not sure it’s viable in the long run.

Why can't Anet make fun World Bosses?

Possible technical issues with a World Boss moving around too much aside… every time they make challenging boss fights in this game, the forums erupt with enough QQ to fill the Mississippi river…
Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see more challenging world bosses on the level of Tequatl or, even better, the Marionette fight from Living Story 1. Hell, I absolutely loved the zone-wide invasions that could happen when Scarlet’s combined forces attacked in LS1.
But QQers cried, and Anet listened… I’m surprised that Triple Trouble even still exists to be completely honest…

A definite +1 on the Lich form idea.

I always figured that Lich form was the way it was because Necromancers were channeling the power of Grenth, and thus assumed his form when transformed (Or was it more like Dhuum’s form? I can’t remember atm…)
But, regardless of that, a change in the models as suggested above would be great in my opinion.

Suggestion for Stopping Personal ABUSE in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ShinjoNaomi.1896

ShinjoNaomi.1896

I agree with the OP. We need a far better system, not just to hide these (which is fine as temporary solution), but to have a human GM online to stop them. By not having these in place, trolls are actually encouraged to “have fun” this way, since they can get away without consequences.

Unless Anet (or any other game company out there) decides to hire full time game ‘referees’, whose only job is to deal with the kittens that populate the internet, then the chances of having a GM show up in game is pretty low… Which is unfortunate. So, we can only just do what we keep on doing. Reporting the little worthless trolls until they get themselves banned for good.

Or maybe this is a game where these actions are allowed and encouraged, and “overly sensitive” people, “with no sense of humor” should not buy & play this.

Somehow, I doubt very much this is the case…

Well either Gw2 is getting money for one day gem items or someone else is. I mean seriously, one person just buys a whole bunch of gw2 accounts, waits for a one day item, and sells them for more. How did the devs not see why one day purchases are bad.

What?
Even if you have someone with a bunch of accounts (why someone would really have more then 2 at the most is beyond me but… okay…) they couldn’t ‘waits for a one day item, and sells them for more’…
Unless you are gifting an item directly from the Gem Store to someone else (which obviously you can’t do if it is not currently for sale,) you can’t (as far as I know) buy something like the wing back piece and then sell it on the TP…

Funny but most new players aren’t taught by you. They’re just new. And know little to nothing about the game.
Also I don’t teach – I don’t have the patience or personality for that.
I do dungeons and content for the reward not to constantly have to tell someone where to be and what to do. I prefer to run with people that already know all that.

If you expect to play with people who know the dungeon, then you have to show new players from time to time what to do. If no one teaches them, they will either quit or become bad players that fail dungeons others worked hard for.

All those dungeon-bugs! Either someone teaches you about them and how to avoid them, or you accidentally run into them and have to restart the dungeon (worst case). For example if no one teaches a new player that AC p1 will be bugged if you run through the graveling-tunnels after getting the second sceptre before the event spawns, someone might actually run ahead and ruin the run for everyone.

Of course it’s easyer to run together with players that know the dungeon, but from time to time you have to make sure that the amount of players knowing what to do remains high. That’s when you open a lfg-group with “new players welcome” and explain every single detail.

Because online guides and youtube videos aren’t enough right? I have to personally show everyone what to do? Don’t think so.
Before I attempt new content I look it up, read the guide and watch the video if I know that my lack of experience could ruin the run for others. I guess others don’t.

Man… how did we ever manage to do /anything/ before these guides and videos were available?
Those must have been dark days indeed, when people could only figure out video games (and much of anything else for that matter) through trial and error…

Cantha offends no one until we let it. The Kurzicks and Luxon were offensive to whom? It’s only KC that people think ‘might’ be offensive. Anet can change the city architecture to favela looks.

Don’t let them squirm out through a loophole people.

I don’t think this is a question of letting them ‘squirm out through a loophole’.
At least some of the Developers wanted to go back to Cantha.
But as usual, it wasn’t the Developers that made that call…

In truth, the entire thing makes me shake my head.
Western Culture? Mishmash it all and mock it ad infinitum. Who cares what they all think.
Anything else though? Ohhh no! People might be offended! Best to walk on eggshells!

Going back to Cantha?
Sure, I’d love that.
But so long as some cooperate desk jockey thinks it will offend people, I won’t hold my breath for it.

Was that their reason for not doing cantha again?

smh…..

Supposedly… What I remember from that is all from memory, so I could be remembering it wrong… (I’m not at home to look it up.)
One of the Devs said the entire reason they did the Great Collapse in Divinity’s Reach was because that was supposed to be the Canthan section of the city.
But they were told to destroy it because it took inspiration from a lot of eastern cultures architecture, not any single one of them…
Apparently, someone (possibly from NCsoft) thought that such a look would offend some people…

I know there is an entire thread here on the forums devoted to bringing back Cantha, so that might be a good place to look if you wanted the full story, rather then what I can dredge up from my (arguably faulty) memory. lol

Orr should be remade

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ShinjoNaomi.1896

ShinjoNaomi.1896

Zhaitan might be dead, but his corruption is not gone. Orr has been through over 250 years of corruption and decay from not only the elder dragon, but being at the bottom of the ocean no less.
And while Zhaitan himself might be gone, there are other sources of corruption as well. Namely, his dragon lieutenants… I doubt they are all dead, and if Tequatl has shown us anything, it’s that the ones that are left could probably be more powerful then ever… (It’s my personal belief that Tequatl’s sudden boost of strength and power is that he’s becoming the new Elder Dragon… But, I have no real proof of that…)
Point is, even 3 years is not a long time when you consider how long Orr was corrupted. And things are still working against it’s purification…

From a purely game mechanic stand point… If they did reclaim Orr, what would happen with the Temple events? Something would have to replace them, after all.

The length of time is irrelevant. According to the end of the personal story, when Trehearn performed the ritual in the source of Orr it reversed the corruption. When Zhaitan died it should have started spreading. It would be noticeable by now.

It /started/ the reverse of the corruption. To quote Trehearn himself…

“The corruption is gone from this chamber. It will take time to spread throughout Orr…assuming we can destroy the dragon.”

He never stated how long it would take to fully heal Orr. Certainly right there at the Artesian Well you can see it right away in the Personal Story, which fits what said. But anything past that? An indeterminate amount of time is still needed.

And again, just because Zhaitan is dead doesn’t mean that all the sources of corruption are gone. Certainly the ~biggest~ one is gone (aka, Zhaitan himself…) but again, I doubt he was the only source. Any of his dragon lieutenants (like Tequatl) fit that bill.

Point is, time is very relevant when it comes to something like corruption of a land that has been poisoned for over 250 years.

But what will happen afterwards? It’s a good thing to have such organizations when you have a clear and present danger like the Elder Dragons to focus them on. But somehow I doubt that once things settle back down again, those same Guilds are just going to quietly disband and go away…

This could very well be the early beginnings of the Second Guild Wars…

Mind you, this would likely be many, many years in the future, if it happens at all… But still…

I would absolutely love to see something like this, including the option to buy another tab in the Gem Store.

Definite +1

Urban warfare ftw? It could be cool to make a PvP instance of it in the free-for-all style of Activities. And I don’t even like PvP!

OT, yes, any time you have the “last bastion” of a race you have a narrative invitation to wreck the heck out of it. I remember an animated movie, I forget the name — Treasure Planet maybe? — where humans were a despised nearly extinct under-race. I think Sylvari are getting that role in HoT but y’never know what can happen to others.

Are you thinking of Titan AE?

I’m genuinely curious (and glad to see something besides all the over-entitled QQ about the expansion…) Where and what do you think this impending doom over Divinity’s Reach is going to be?

Mordremoth?
I think he has better, closer and more tempting targets in the Grove and Rata Sum. Rata Sum because of all the techno-magic that the Asura have there wouldn’t just be a snack, it would actually be a full meal for him. And the Grove because… well, Sylvari…

Jormag?
I think he (and the other Elder Dragons) is too far away to really to really threaten Divinity’s Reach. And in Jormag’s case, his forces would have to go through then Kodan, Norn and Centaurs first. And speaking of Centaurs…

Centaurs?
They have been fighting Humans for hundreds of years and while they could probably do a lot of damage to the surrounding area if they gathered all their forces for one huge attack, I just don’t see them being able to overcome DR’s walls and defenses. At least, I doubt they would have better success then the charr did against Ebonhawke, and the charr have /much/ better war machines…

Internal strife?
I honestly think if there is any real threat to Divinity’s Reach, it’s from the internal power struggle between the Queen and the Council of Ministers. But that is a struggle for control, and neither side wants to see DR destroyed.

So again, I’m curious… Where do you think this impending doom for Divinity’s Reach is coming from?

Yeah, it’s a pretty game.

Shame looks are only skindeep.

Shame that there always has to be one to throw that jab into threads like this…

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it a thousand time more…
Guild Wars 2 is a great game.
It looks gorgeous. It plays smoothly. And /finally/ after years of playing MMO’s, I don’t have to worry about what part of the (un)Holy Trinity I am forced to be a part of.
Hell, even after over 4,000 hours of playing since the game came out, I am still finding things I haven’t noticed before…

It’s not perfect, but I say that firmly with the understanding that there is no such thing as a perfect game, and things can always be improved.

Another option is just inviting all your friends and guildies to the event, and then ignore the toxic kid with a commander tag that thinks he own the place.
Put the event up in LFG in port people in that will finish it.
Lastly, if you have a commander tag of your own, put it up and lead the zerg yourself.

Sure, the kid with the commander tag might start flipping his lid and pounding on his keyboard in righteous indignation, but then he’s just hanging himself with his own rope as people could (and should) report him for verbal abuse.

Point is, people have every right to finish an event, regardless of what someone that had the 300 gold to buy a little icon over his head would like to say.

I’m not clear on all the details, by I believe that audio files were data-mined where you heard the other members of DE 2.0 talking to Kasmeer and consoling her over Majory’s death…

Of course, those could have just been lines that the voice actors were told to do if the final outcome of the living story was still subject to change.
In truth, I doubt we’ll ever really know.

Lop-sided fights.
Cheap ‘tactics’ like having a spy on enemy servers and sabotaging them by wasting supply or other such things.
Crap-tastic attitudes by both enemies and allies alike when things don’t go their way.
Hackers and cheaters ruining the whole experience…

On top of, like you said, doing the same thing over and over again.

Don’t get me wrong. For large scale battles, WvW is the best thing out there (my personal opinion, of course…) but, even the best of things can get old after a while.

Hopefully, the new maps with new mechanics and all that which are coming soon will help alleviate some of that and breath some fresh air into WvW.
