I couldn’t agree more with OP.

Two other suggestions:
- If you make elite specs available to everyone… please bring the elite specs back in line with core specs… this is really just boring, everyone runs elite specs because they’re overpowered, no variety or diversity.
- Detach the weapons and utility skills from the trait lines. Binding them together was a really bad idea, because now you are forced into a trait line to equip a certain weapon, puts too many limits on gameplay.

Edit: maybe it should just be a small purchase, say 15-20 euros for the standalone PvP game, so the devs can get some revenue from that (I wouldn’t mind)?

All of them.

Add in PvX guilds too.

Problem: most of the guilds I knew that were real WvW guilds (99% WvW, 1% everything else), have long quit the game. Where can they draw WvW testers from if most of the good ones who have been around since launch have left the game?

Night Capping pass the Popcorn

in WvW

Posted by: Sirendor.1394

Sirendor.1394

Trolling? No I am really convinced that night capping and the resulting PPT don’t care is one of the major reasons why people play less (which has the same overall effect than less people playing) wvw.

I think this is true. For me at least, this makes the scoring system inherently pointless and not something an individual can care about.

The combination of what people call “Coverage wars” and “Night Capping” comes down to “The server with people capping empty towers at most hours wins (GG)”.

However I think there are many other reasons that are tied to this one that lead to diminished playerbase, like these:

  • Rewards for capping (often empty) towers/keeps are higher than rewards for fighting
  • There isn’t much “to fight for”: personal sense of achievement is rather low overall. Except for example when you manage to beat a big group with a smaller group, I always felt like that was the best feeling, but these days doesn’t happen much.
  • The role of guilds, still feels rather redundant. The overpowered guild upgrades locked behind a grindwall are not a good step forward.
  • Creating your own game only lasts so long: many wvw players have been playing all these years just creating their own game… but at this point a lot of us are just bored, we’ve stretched beyond the limits of self-entertainment.

Reworking Death Blossom, Dancing Dagger and Cloak and Dagger is what we need. Dagger offhand is underwhelming in general so it won disturb balance.

Shadow Shot has blind + gap closer + damage. So for Death Blossom I suggest it gets the bleeds removed and brought back in the form of direct damage. Then buff the damage and give it a short immobilize to bring it back to the game.

The only thing iam not fine with is this “berserker thingy”! But I changed the thread name now!

But iam getting kittened at people defending this spec, I call it broken, and they call it balanced! And thats why I cant agree with them!

If they just admited, that it was a bit over the top and prob needed some tweeking, then I would be fine with it!
But I will never consider that 15-19k gunflame is ok, ever!

Oh alrighty then! Yeah I agree it’s a tad overpowered. It’s hard to say if normal Kill Shot could achieve the same damage on you since we don’t know what buffs, damage multipliers etc that specific berserker was using. However the fact is that Gun Flame activates a lot faster than Kill Shot can, so it’s harder to dodge it, so it’s damage should be lowered.

Just recently you made a thread saying that mesmers do not need a nerf. I agreed with you. From my point of view, it’s not the “mesmer” that needed nerf, it’s the “chronomancer”.

Now you claim “warrior” is overpowered because “berserker” is overpowered. Please reconsider. Warrior is very weak as a core spec (without berserker elite spec). If anything, they need to nerf Gun Flame, not the warrior.

But I would like to ask you sincerely to consider how valuable the WvW populace is. We* are not locusts that have endless demands, complaining over a lack of new content, devouring any new content, and considering the cycle while leaving behind a wake of boring and soulcrushing grinds for the rest of us. If you show me an actual WvW regular that will bash Arenanet because Living Story 45 isn’t out in 2 weeks yet after 44 and there aren’t any new outfits this week, I’ll pay you a copper. Because you know, constantly spitting out “novel” content isn’t actually a reasonable demand. Making sure your content actually works on the other hand, I think is. Seriously, when people go “oh my god, there’s no new content”, I respond with “What the hell do you even want? Can you even be happy?” And then I understood why treadmills are created.

As long as the game mode is fine, and there are conflicts to be had, it’ll be fine. That’s how WvW basically survived for 3 years on pretty much minimal content changes. And there’s certainly many other players that are not WvW’ers that are also willing to stay with you because they sincerely enjoy the content and not off to some race to be a special snowflake.

I completely agree with this. WvW is a very special game mode and the players who play it are more than dedicated to the game. They don’t play for loot, they don’t play for shinies. They play for one reason only: the raw action and challenges that come through fighting against other players.

I can say truthfully that I have never played a game with such a fantastic large scale PvP format, and I still love it, like I am sure most WvW players do. Most of the WvW players have been throwing themselves into Eternal Battlegrounds and the borders for years now. They saw little to no changes in content, yet they stayed and kept playing there.

All we ask for is a stable PvP environment with a little bit of depth. The rest we, the players, have always provided ourselves. We have organised in guilds, in server communities, cooperated with eachother to fight the enemy. We created different playstyles and roles, be it commander, scout, roamer, pug, guild raider. Existing content has been used by players in very creative ways. We have even been fighting over things that were not even intended to be fought over, think about the hills at Overlook keep, the ruins at Valley. Think of the Guild vs. Guild scene that existed for so long without any framework provided by ArenaNet, think of the frequent friendly duels and skirmishes between players from opposing servers.

If anything the message to you, ArenaNet, should be that World vs. World is a game mode that must be cherished, along with it’s players.

That said: the tag does not need to be exclusive, does it? What if every party gets a leader with a small tag?

That does not seem to be exclusive. What is really exclusive is the fact that parties can only consist of 5 people each. This is way more “divisive” than making a tag for groups.

As I see it there are two ways to proceed for balancing:

  • Nerfing every elite specs until they are on par with core specs
  • Buffing every core spekittenil it is on par with elite specs

The former requires a lot less work so that should be what they do. Buffing Reaper is a bad idea from this point of view. That just promotes the power gap.

Or tactfully nerfing all elite specs to bring them online with core specs so there is diversity and more appeal to pvp. Than the bullkitten going on now.

I think this is a lot more preferably, not kidding. In all seriousness, elite specs are what broke the tedious balance we had. At least previous meta was worth playing.

snip

Thank you, a fantastic amount of detail here and clearly I still don’t understand a lot of the terminology. For instance i thought Roamers were lone players who ambushed people and took camps.

Systematic is just what I need – so much info can be confusing but just reading this posts plus other posts and web links has clarified a lot of things today.

I did used to play with my Guardian in a Zerg once, i just shadowed the commander and tried to keep her and our nearby guildies alive so they could kill the enemy. Its embarassing to think of now – i didn’t really have a clue what I was doing just pressing buttons, watching if their health improved, and rezzing people. Also I never thought in terms of front line or back line – to me it was often just chaos so shadowing our leader seemed to make sense. By the way, our zerg never used team speak – just chat from our leader and i often saw that too late.

I just realised today that spells put down almost randomly or in panic can nerf other spells put down by my allies – perhaps thats why i was kicked from the small group the other day.

Also i didn’t know that i needed a different build for small groups or for zergs – i’ll have to get this sorted as well.

The system you suggest should help put things in perspective because there is a huge amount to learn and practice – thank you

Haha. Well you could understand roaming that way. Typically there’s the solo roamers but often roamers group up to be able to take on more enemies. The size of parties being max 5 has made 5-man groups (so called havoc squads or gank squads) very prevalent aswell as a format of roaming.

As for the random abilities in zergs: the support often happens through placing ‘fields’ and comboing them with ‘blasts’. This is quite important. The link below explains what blasts do. Some skills have these blasts, like guardian hammer 2. Water field blasts are main healing source for many zergs. If you place another field on top of it, it blasts the wrong one. (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Blast_finisher)

The concern about having different builds. Well it’s not completely exclusive but rather if you want to be really optimal. I often use my roaming set-up in bigger groups too because a roaming set-up is something like a self-sufficient killing machine. If you become really good on your roaming set-up you’ll be a good fight in a zerg aswell. Switching some weapons and utility skills around is often sufficient for zerging (for example staff/hammer & shouts on guardian instead of greatsword & scepter/focus).

Also glad to help.

Help: how to last over 10 secs against elites

in WvW

Sirendor.1394

It really depends on a lot of factors, most of which have been debated already by the other answers but I’ll give a quick overview to make it systematic. Since you’re not familiar with the concepts used by WvW players allow me to explain.

1. Playstyles: roaming – zerging:

  • The main playstyles in WvW are known as roaming and zerging. Roaming is mainly focused “small scale” combat (everything between 1-10 players). Zerging on the other hand is “large scale” combat, where you follow the commander or play in a group of 20 – 50 people. Depending on the playstyles your preferred class and build will be extremely important.
  • For roaming people often try to find a class/build that is versatile, meaning that it is in general useable in different ways and allows you to turn around the situation very fast (for example being able to mitigate damage, deal large amounts of damage yourself and still escape when the situation becomes too heated). Mobility or the ability to navigate the field of battle in a flash is key to roaming.
  • For zerging you will be aiming at more group support and using AoE spells (Area of Effect in order to damage other opposing zergs or big groups of players). Playstyles generally occupied in a zerg are those of frontline and backline. The frontline tries to force the enemy lines to break by going melee. The backline tries to deal as much damage as possible from a slightly longer range. Support comes in the form of both controlling enemies, buffing (might, swiftness, regeneration…), and applying healing.

2. Classes

  • Some classes will serve better for roaming and others will serve better for zerging.
  • I suggest for roaming you take a look at warrior – mesmer – guardian – thief – engineer, in my opinion these are the easiest to play with as a roamer. If you can access their elite specialisations, be sure to check them out as well (revenants herald is strong aswell).
  • For zerging generally guardians, warriors, elementalists, necromancers are very useful assets.

3. Builds

  • In each class certain builds are made especially for roaming and zerging. Metabattle is as suggested by others a good place to start out.
  • You need to take good care of 2 things especially:
    - Your traits. Traits will give you options to enhance certain skills, certain class mechanisms and whatnot.
    - Your gear. Armour and weapons come with stats, and sigils and runes have a serious impact on your competitive performance. Berserker stats are a favourite for many roamers, sigil of energy, sigil of fire, sigil of air are extremely useful.

4. Occupying strategic positions

  • As I said, mobility is a gigantic asset in WvW. Once you become an expert at your class and build and learn to counter other classes in a fight… there is much more to learn. For one strategically occupying the playfield. The playfield is rather big so always use it to your favour. Being shot at from a distance? Find an obstacle to hide behind and lure the enemy. Always keep in mind an escape route in case you might be set upon by more enemies than you originally expected.
  • In a zerg you might also make use of this. For example if you are playing a backline class/build, you can look for a place that is defensible against melee rushes and still allows you to wreak havoc on the enemy.

I hope this helps! As you maybe guessed I have a lot of experience in the field of roaming, both solo and in groups. See you around!

Defend what? The chronobunker build!? If thats what you mean, I would say no!
However, what I try point out is… If you nerf chronobunker, you need to buff core mesmer and fix some other stuff with this class. Its not in a good spot outside of that spec.

This guy is right. The problem is not with mesmer as a base class, it’s with the chrono elite spec. Chrono needs a balancing, but so do most if not all of the elite specs. Most base classes are pretty balanced when you compare it to the mess after October 23rd.

Big WvW overhaul later this year...

Sirendor.1394

Allow me to quote:

We may not be ready to reveal more in early 2016, but you’ll have an opportunity to get all the details and give feedback when we go into the beta phase of this massive project later this year.

Other Big Events for Early 2016
… what else can you expect to see over the course of the next few months? Let’s take a look at other releases and events already planned out and firmly scheduled between now and the end of March in 2016.

So summing up what they’re saying is early 2016 is until april of this year, and we will not see anything before that time. Assuming they do reveal some details in the course of April, that still means that they need to go through beta events before finally releasing their “Major overhaul” somewhere in summer.

The number 6 seems like the right answer at this moment if you want to know how many months not to play this game.

WvW guild chat- "population balance"

in WvW

Posted by: Sirendor.1394

Sirendor.1394

I can’t believe how many words and posts have been spilled over “Is EotM a megaserver or not?”. It does not matter if you call it that or if you don’t (especially pointing to Loosmaster and Diku here). What matters is that the way Megaservers function and the way EotM functions are the same, I agree with Swagger 100% on this. Both “group players from different servers together into one map”, that’s what happens in EotM (each side is made up of random players from potentially a third of the servers) and what happens in PvE (each map is filled with random players from potentially all servers).

Once you agree with this you’ll have to agree that making WvW based on “megaservers” will likely give us a system very similar to EotM, of course they could vary things but in essence what it will come down to is grouping players from different servers together (so bye bye tier systems and individual servers).

However, this might just as well not be the solution ArenaNet chooses. There has been rumor that there will be an alliance system that is based on guilds rather than servers, so then servers will in general disappear (since all of PvE is basically one megaserver).

We can only wait and debate what we would prefer. I honestly don’t know if megaserver is the best idea, but it might be their best shot because as it looks right now populations have dropped so hard that they will need to combine servers to get enough participants in WvW.

The times when we made special team builds and defended a tower or camp against a blob with 5-10 guildies. We once fought for the Greenvale “Headquarter” starting at noon, ending late evening, killing groups from both opposing servers. The times when we rallied to our server commander and fought three way battles in the field or in stonemist. The times we coordinated with other guilds on the server to strike different objectives on maps. The times we skrimmed against other havok teams, battles flowing all over maps.

Ahhh glorious old school WvW. How much it has changed now.

"Dead" Weapons, Traits and Util?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sirendor.1394

Sirendor.1394

I kind of agree Mohagi that this game could be much improved by buffing/reworking set-ups that currently seem subpar. I have always thought that the charm of GW2 is the diversity of the combat, and I love experimenting with new things and trying to make them work. There are many many utilities, weapons that fall out of the meta-boat, and as you say that’s okay, but they should at least be an option!

As for examples, there are plenty:

  • Consider elementalist conjured weapons – earth shield and lava axe rarely see any use
  • Consider engineer gadgets: except rocket boots there’s always some utility better than them so it would be a waste to equip them
  • Guardian spirit weapons, same thing except some niche uses (fractal lava elemental makes shield useful). Consecrations aswell, you can’t run full consecration builds because then you lose too much compared to meditations, and if you trait for one consecration you lose other useful traits.
  • Consider weapons like mace mainhand and even more so mace offhand on warrior, pistol offhand on engineer, sword mainhand on guardian (still as broken as ever), shield on guardian, sword on ranger (used for running away and that’s about it), …

If anything it would be fun if we could use these and actually be (from a PvP/WvW point of view) competitive.

It’s quite strange being PM’ed to respond to a thread, especially as I’m not particularly active in the WvW forum. I also find it a little odd to see requests for ‘rewards’ for coming up with the idea. IMO, having my idea implemented would be reward enough for me.

I’ll respond as requested, but not to support the idea, which quite frankly I’m not too keen on. There are much better ideas floating around to fix WvW, IMO.

I’ll be honest though and say that I’ve not read the rest of the thread, some of my points may have already been made, others may have been altered or modified.

1. The NA and EU regions are split because they are in different data-centres. You can’t magically merge them together. They cannot play on the same maps, without needing to store all of the information for every character in both data-centres, and to be constantly replicating data between them. That constant replication between EU and US of all character data in real time, would be incredibly expensive and lead to bugs caused by replication errors.

2. I would rather fight ‘against’ players in my time-zone, that with them. However I know that large numbers prefer to be in an overpowered zerg. This would just lead to scenarios where players pick 3 time-zones that are going to have lower resistance, in order to get easy captures.

3. If my server owns all the borderlands, why do we still need 3 of them. IMO 2 borderlands (one alpine, the other Desert) would make more sense.

4. Picking which servers to fight will just lead to issues of certain ‘unliked’ servers being ganged up on. Might be fun for the bullies, but wont be fun for the players on those servers.

5. How are globes supposed to ‘ally’ with other globes if players are restricted to the number of globes they can attack in a week? If my globe has 2 allies, and I’m limited to fighting on 3 fronts, then all I can do is defend my own globe and my allies. No offensive play at all. Or I can attack and not defend my allies. What if I have 3 allies? What if my allies are not under attack during the time I play? This whole idea doesn’t make any real sense.

6. Low ranked worlds (or worlds with low populations) are protected and allowed to survive? Huh? I thought one of the points was to close low population realms? Why ‘protect’ worlds that need to be closed? Also, what If I’m on a low pop world and like defending, how can I defend if my world is protected?

7. 5 globes for NA, 4 globes for Africa, 3 for Australia, but just 1 for Asia?? Where are getting you population figures from. You can’t divide the player population up neatly be Time-zone. Some time-zones have a much bigger player-base than others. African globes will be almost empty and the NA globes will be overfilled.

8. This turns WvW into attacker vs defender, a two way battle, rather than a three-way. Three way battles are better for computer games because they lead to more interesting outcomes (look up the rule of threes). Plus all the maps are designed for three way combat.

I find myself agreeing with most you say, so allow me to elaborate on the things that really deserve discussion.

Points 2 and 4 seemed related to me. Indeed. If they implement a ‘choose what world to attack’ feature, we can’t expect people not to pick the worlds that can’t defend themselves. People will do what they can do (even if it undermines the game quality, as we’ve seen in karmatrains), so if you bring this kind of ‘globe’ system it will have to get a lot of restrictions imposed on it, which makes it in turn a lot less attractive compared to other systems.

Point 3. I would even go so far as to say – globes will not work with current maps. A proposal I think has a lot of merit is, instead of world servers(current) or globes(Diku), one proposing to make a PvP-version of the game that allows people to fight in the existing world maps. Make existing garrisons/fortresses capturable by guilds, and make guilds defend them. How many versions of this world map there should be is entirely relative to the amount of people who would play on them of course.

Point 4. The ally system as Diku proposes makes things needlessly complex in my opinion. It faces the problems you mentioned, and my own reaction would be – why not make alliances guild-based, and why even make globes then? Couldn’t guild-based alliances be the central unit in WvW?

Point 6. I can see the logic in trying to prevent low pop servers being crushed week after week, but such an artificial restriction would be unattractive, so maybe instead of making a system to requires restrictions, build one that does not need them in the first place?

Point 8. Another valid idea, and again I would think open-world guild alliances would be a lot more succesful on this. This globe system making it attack other globes/defend your own globe. It might seem interesting at first, but I am afraid it will get tiresome really fast, lacking the versatility of other systems where you’ll have multiple factions fighting and dying or winning.

// I really appreciate what you’re doing by the way Diku, even if not all of your ideas seem the right ones, you have put a lot of work in this, and anything is preferable to the WvW experience we have right now. What is the best solution can still be a topic for debate though!

Also realistically I doubt ArenaNet will ever implement a system elaborated by players, this is much like what happens in real life politics… they will take whatever they can use.//

GW2, WvW and PVP

Im not a a fanboy, but imo, gw2 has the best pvp combat on MMO Market, by far. All professions are unique, with lots of build variety and customization. The combat is fluid, dynamic and very fun. Anet did a great work on this MMO, really. The conquest and Stronghold pvp modes are cool too.

But we dont have open World PVP. WvW is a joke. Or do you zerg, or do you play thief/mesmer(due stealth and teleports) to escape the ganks and zergs. You cant rlly roam alone, unless you want some1 stomping ur dead body after a 2v1 3v1 4v1 5v1 etc..
Sometimes it take like 1h for me roaming alone to find a single 1v1 battle…rlly…1 hour!!!!!

I know gw2 PVE map system isnt made for competion, just for coperation. But why doesnt ANET try to create a TEST OVERFLOW, with any map of Tyria, and make it open PK. Ppl would enter this overflow if they want., if they choose it from any command or portal idk. Just test it. If it proves its broken, just delete it. No1 will Cry on foruns, since they choosed to be there.

Im sure it will be full of people. From my experience in free mmo’s, people love world PK and it would be amazing to have it in GW2. I play gw2 since 2013, so i really would like to get some real pvp action, since WvW is BROKEN for small scale pvp.

I have not really played gw2 since HoT unless you count a couple of hours in Eternal Battlegrounds and a few short episodes in the new borders, but I have also really missed the Guild Wars 2 combat… whatever game I go into, GW2’s combat is superior in every way.

My dream would be a game like Ark Survival Evolved but with Guild Wars 2 combat. :P Open world, full PK. It doesn’t necessarily have to be full-loot loss if you die, but at least it would be better than WvW in it’s current state, because like you say it takes so long to find a decent fight.

Oh I see, so you expect globes that are very aggressive to be attacked themselves because of this, some sort of revenge system? That could actually work.

Also another thing I thought while reading this – it’s likely people of the same guild will attack the same globe, since they want to play together, so that would make the whole system more reliable.

Would PvP's Standardized Gear be Bad for WvW?

in WvW

Posted by: Sirendor.1394

Sirendor.1394

I may be missing something big and so forth, so would someone care to enlighten me?

A lot of wvw’ers play the gamemode as the endgame mode, for those, the choice of stats, including food consumables is important. PVP system even if (I doubt anet would spend more resources on wvw than pvp for this matter) split into separate pieces, wouldn’t offer same flexibility.

It’s mmo, I don’t see the problem in spending some time to gear up a character, even newbies can do that. Most argue that the stat advantage is unfair, yet getting asc trinkets is easy, rings drop like flies in fractals, and just from log in rewards people get tons of laurels. Now the difference is rather small between full asc vs exotic armour+wep & asc trinkets. You still think asc trinkets are hard to get? Then mmo isn’t for you.

If wvw would end up with amulets like pvp, it’d drive away many current players and those that don’t win fights now would only wonder why they still don’t win them when every enemy should have same stats as them. People just like mental excuses for lost fights. Check the screenie, tho not about asc gear, it shows what people want to believe to.

To be honest… this “progression” argument (against Standardized gear) makes as little sense as the “power creep” argument (in favor of Standardized gear). If the stat boost is minimal, you shouldn’t worry about having it, cause it only gives you minimal benefit right? But on the other side you shouldn’t worry about not having it, because if you don’t have it you don’t have a big disadvantage compared to people who do have it.
It’s a coin with two sides.

I think the most common argument in favor of Standardized gear is that you get more choices and easier use of the variety of builds guild wars 2 has to offer. You don’t need to tweak stats, you don’t need to get your inventory crammed with full sets of gear, you don’t need to save up for overexpensive runes etc. If you really enjoy grinding your ascended, go for it, the world is still open for you.

Camps are split in two. Some are ok with this, and others really like being able to fine tweak minor stats by changing 1-2 trinkets or armor pieces etc.

Personally been for it for a long time. completely ignoring the entire ascended grind, cost of upgrades and armors etc with the income level of wvw. Having the freedom to swap around and try things as you wish etc.

I’d love to see the Amulet split into 2 parts myself. So get get some options for customizing stats and mixing sets a bit more, but probably wouldn’t need more splitting than that. Obviously some will disagree with me over my opinion.

Also, it would remove uplevels from WvW.

1- I hate grinding gear or being bound to buying expensive runes so my build works.
2- What if there could still be fine-tuning?

Example: allow people to mix and match their standard armor (just forget trinkets) instead of using an amulet. So then you could still in theory pick 6 different armour stats at the same time. This is similar to your amulet split idea

3- No uplevels: great! Then we at least leveled the playing field there.

#2: If we’re going into that, I’d much rather have weapons and armors remove their stats, and link all stats into Trinkets. Make it simple, Weapon=damage, Armor=Armor, Trinkets=Stats. And while at it make own slots for sigils and runes, so I don’t have to link them up to weapons or armors. But that is going to cause the legendary owners to kill me, and most of the WvW crowd would send me mail bombs for removing a few extra tweakable stats on their spreadsheets.

Haha that’s also attractive actually, because that was how Guild Wars 1 worked. Armor just had defensive value, weapons just had offensive value. Then you could add runes and sigils and that was all. Adding stats to trinkets is a viable option but why even keep trinkets? Wouldn’t it be easier to just make these attributes choseable regardless of trinkets?

This way it would also probably finally become viable to use templates.

I do not agree with everything you say in your thread, but I do think it’s something to be worked on, it has potential, as an alternative to fully world-based match-ups and as an alternative to fully alliance-based match-ups.

My main issue would be with controlling what happens. What if a lot of players attack the same ‘globe’ at the same time? Will all of them appear as allies, or will they also fight among eachother? If allies, won’t the home globe be severely handicapped when it has to fend off players from potentially all other home globes?

The pay-2-win argument comes from the fact that elite specialisations while claimed by arenanet to be ‘just an alternative’ are way stronger than the original core classes.

For me I would be okay buying the elite specialisations for money IF it wouldn’t have been so clear that arenanet is pushing us into buying them because they’re overpowered.

That’s simply wrong to do and I don’t enjoy playing a game that rewards me for paying money, where’s the skill in that?

I don’t understand there’s still people defending arenanet on this.

How can you deny that…

  • Masteries are a grindwall covering up that they didn’t put much new content in the game?
  • Elite specs are a paywall to be competitive in PvP right now? Only a handful of core specs are able to compete fairly.
  • World vs. World is now a looot less active, partially because of gigantic maps that are too annoying to navigate around, partially because of auto-upgrades?
  • Dungeons are no longer worth playing because they nerfed the rewards on them?
  • Fractals had their rewards moved behind a paywall so that rewards people used to get in core, are now only available after level 50 and require the expansion?
  • Arenanet has been pumping out outfit after outfit, and weapon set after weapon set through the gem store?

I can probably continue summing up, but I think you get my point. Please be realistic. Arenanet is a company, they want to make profits, they’re not angels, they’re not your friends.

It’s okay and understandable that a company wants to make profits, but it’s not okay when it takes things out of the core game, when it promises different things than it delivers etc. There’s a moral code of conduct that companies should not break, because if they do, they’re likely to lose customers.

But in EotM most of the time green is dominating so that really means that it isn’t balanced either. (I wonder if an algoritm for balance is even possible, legitimate question)

o-O Must play EotM then cause WvW is dead as kitten.

Still… I remember those glorious old days when we fought 3 hours for 1 tower in Eternal Battlegrounds and then fought 2 hours more defending it.

I’m afraid even EotM with megaservers can’t get to that level of amazing battles, but hey 10 minutes for a keep is a good start.

Anyone not buying HoT and still playing ?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sirendor.1394

Sirendor.1394

Most MMO Xpacks are mandatory for continuing to play the game

For WoW, you don’t need to buy xpack to play the game.

Sure you don’t NEED it but you will be playing a single player game after about a week. Also like 99.9% of the content in WoW Xpacks are for Xpack only.

True, but this is probably not the reason why many people are not buying HOT. It seems that many people are not buying because they don’t think there is enough content in HOT. The amount of new content in a WoW xpac is really much more. I think people do have to play other MMOs to conclude that the content in HOT is less than a normal xpac.

Honestly, after reading the posts here, I start to wonder whether I have made a bad decision on preordering the game…

My most recent experience with an Xpack was FF14 and I can tell you the content in that Xpack is so much less than what is in HoT. They did the same thing with releasing Alex raid after the original Xpack launch, in addition they added less skills, less character progression (bigger numbers only), what looks like the same amount of story content and nearly ZERO for non xpack purchasers or casual players. Also its worth noting that most of the content in Heavensward and WoW Xpacks are maps and zones meant to level you up that you will NEVER go back to again, except on a new character for their levels.

Imagine of HoT was just adding 500 to each of your stats in exchange for ~20 hours of grinding through a couple linear story maps 10 or so times each.

This is what I meant by people here clearly don’t play MMOs typically, to say HoT has no content is a total lie. Every new map is endgame here and none of them are sacrificed for pure level grinding.

Ok wait… I am just reacting to this because I think you have a few things wrong.

1) Nobody said HoT has no content to offer. Of course it has content to offer, and it’s not bad content either. However it’s rational to wait for the hype to pass and try it out yourself when you are sure the value/content is okay, or possibly when it’s put on sale. You don’t lose anything by waiting, you can carry on playing the game without HoT or you can do something else. You do potentially lose something by buying it right off.

2) There’s no such thing as a “typical” MMO. Sure we can try to compare GW2 to WoW, Lineage, Tera, Lotro, but while these share certain characteristics, and so does Guild Wars 2, it’s still a very open concept, and the game industry is continuously developing based on what consumers want or what works. Typical grind mmos in my opinion are long past, because there’s more and more sandbox type games where you yourself define the game. The gaming industry can and will adapt to this, so MMO’s too will change. GW2 has taken many steps in the right direction already.

Poor Devs.

Well.. the devs misunderstood.

-> Players: “Too easy”

  • Easy = not hard
  • Players: “Hard = challenging!”
  • Devs “Hard = timeconsuming!”
  • But: timeconsuming =/= hard!
  • Timeconsuming = grindy
    -> Players: “Too much grind”

Love this post. This explains why I love the Mad King’s Clock Tower. The CT rewards player skill instead of lame kitten grinding / mat farming.
