First off, I am rather interested in a build that works around burns. I had a friend who ran that really long ago and it was really awesome (I think that must have been january 2013), I also ran it after that but haven’t touched it much since that time. The gear I still have is rabid though, would that work as well as carrion?
Also; is it possible to try play on both direct damage and burning?’
For the other suggestions here;
- signets need some love indeed, they lack the sustain on the other two skill sets, maybe useable in a combo with shouts?
- spirit weapons: not sure, I might try to run something new with them, i’ll post results later.
- consecrations: maybe they can get a spot with WoR?

Quick edit: just roamed with rabid/zerk guardian and it seems viable. Still utilizing meditations, but at least it’s something else and I can use torch for this. ;D Killed couple of other roamers with this, no horrible deaths yet (except from getting ran over by a zerg).

I played guardian a lot in WvW for roaming, but each time… I return back to a meditation build using Judge’s Intervention, Smite Condition and Contemplation of Purity. Usually I run it with GS + S/F (either sword or scepter). I know shout builds are also being used for roaming (and I ran them myself some times), but they really don’t do as well as medi builds because they lack movement skills.
Now my question is: are there any alternatives, or am I stuck with meditation meta? Signets, consecrations and spirit weapons all seem awfully weak compared to meditations, so I really am desperate for something new…

Best roamer servers are down in t8 and t9.
Thief is really weak without stealth… apart from blinds it’s pretty much only thing he has unless he is running sword evasion build.
A valid opinion, OP. I think the best thing is gem conversion in this case. If you really want this weapon skin: buy gems → convert to gold → buy from trading post. This kind of gamble is just not for everyone, it’s rather tedious and far from a guaranteed method of acquisition.

I share the opinion of some here that this will not serve to punish blobbing or zerging, but instead makes it overpowered. All they need now is endless CC and pure zerk and they will kill anything you can throw at them.
As others have said… PPT is pointless because it only gives a measure of the number of players that fight on the servers. Server with most people or most coverage → guaranteed PPT winner.
People don’t care about things they don’t have an individual impact on. Fights however are the one thing I still play WvW for occasionally. The combat can still be thrilling and it’s a display of your individual skill if you are roaming. Zerging, not gonna talk about that.
One worry every WvW player has is profession balance. We all know numerous examples of certain classes and builds being near to invincible in WvW (right now or long ago), and nobody who played other classes really liked that.
When Arenanet (next to revenant) throws in specialisations for all the existing classes… what’s to stop them from making them much better than existing classes, so everyone will be forced to buy the expansion just to experience a semi-balanced experience?
Tbh, my hits are really low on thief too, even running full zerk (traits on full damage). I can say truthfully that my thief hits less than my warrior and my warrior has 10k health and nearly 1k toughness more than my thief.
Would like to hear if anyone knows how to make it viable.

This kinda sounds like the worst map to play in for a PvP player in the whole of GW2.
WvW is no option for uplevels. Yes, arenanet’s decision to make level differences in WvW was pointless.

wow, people actually defend the abominable RNG in this game. I guess you drones will eat anything.
My thoughts exactly. RNG is horrible, at least give us a “If you do this X times and don’t receive the rare item, you receive this item.”
RNG “alone” should never have been in this game. What we need is a progress system that rewards people for doing the activity. Like each time you kill Tequatl your progress bar would go up until you reach the minimum and you get to pick (sort of like the achievement point reward system).
As cool as the game is, part of what’s so interesting about this thread is seeing how different locations can look with different computers/settings.

Just to throw the OP a bone…
I played this game since launch (on and off) and I find that a lot of the stat combinations are either sub-optimal or downright abysmal:
Optimal:
- Berserker: all round good for every kind of activity
- Knight: tankier version of berserker, still very good
- Celestial: another all-rounder, useful because more stat points compared to other set-ups
- Dire: probably the best condition build
- Rabid: 2nd best condition build (in my opinion)
- Sentinel: if you’re a WvW commander, else it’s bad
Sub-optimal:
- Soldier: cause berserker has more damage, and the extra vitality and toughness don’t really change a lot in most PvP situations, and are useless in PvE. Good for people who suck at their class, i.e. noobs.
- Valkyrie: vitality is a no-go for most classes because warrior, necro, ranger, engi, mesmer base HP are quite good; classes that have lower vitality still can use it such as guard, ele, thief (though the latter are better off with either celestial and berserk)
- Carrion: while not as good as dire or rabid (power on a condition build isn’t optimal), it’s still possible to run this “ok”.
- Settler: an “ok” condition stat for people who like healing, worse than the ones above though. I never use this without switching some dire or rabid in.
Abysmal:
- Every possible other stat combo

Edit: NO ZERKER!!! Zerk builds are only for PvE. I didn’t have time to look at your builds because my phone is wierd with links, but never have any zerker.
Also, AoE Condi cleanse is very, VERY important when fighting 5v5!!!
I beg your pardon? The meta wvw havoc players and roamers run roughly five stat set-ups, sometimes mixed: zerk, knight, cele, dire, rabid.
Berserker is a must for basically every group if you have a thief, a warrior, a mesmer or a guardian. I personally run berserker on each of those classes with great success. I don’t lose 5v3 like OP, to the contrary… the glorious times of 3v10 will always stay in my mind. ;D

A lot of players here will have 5000+ hours, rank 1700+, 14k+ AP, and over 125k+ kills! And over 12 pages of posts in their forums profile section, where almost all of their posts are in the WvW Discussions section!
Someone who really represents the WvW community will have at least 1 banned account, and a second which lots of infractions and temporary suspensions, and a third account ready for when their 2nd is also banned. Why? Because these people are willing to argue with the mods and devs and are not afraid to put their honest opinions forward, even if they are opinions anet does not like!

Hmm sounds like Legacy of the Foefire + League of Legends. I don’t know if it will be good or not. It doesn’t really sound like GvG but it does remind me of Fort Aspenwood/Jade Quarry.

Well we don’t know the price/content ratio. If they charge $50 for an expansion with 1/10 of the original game… i’m gonna pass.

You seriously think there will be a big relative difference between servers in the ratio of “bought/non-bought”?

What I do think though: existing population differences will result in extra problems for getting enough people on all maps with a new map added. In some servers it’s barely possible to man all different maps at the same time (in FoW I have literally been alone on maps, not during prime but still at regular EU times).
