Ranger is the kittentiest and easiest class in the game since they changed it. In a game where everything in PvP is about mobility… the thing they did with ranger has broken the combat. You can not fight a ranger in groups because;
1) approaching the ranger will take so long you will be halfway down by the time you can actually attack him.
2) getting away from ranger is impossible because the farther you get away from him the harder he hits; stealth does not work because the ranger just keeps shooting you even though you’re stealthed; there is no way to evade the shots other than dodging.

TLDR; WHY DID YOU MAKE RANGER A WALKING MACHINE GUN?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but low pop servers have a harder time to find fights and a harder time to capture structures because the servers with higher numbers have people in most of their towers+keeps upgrading them, while low pop servers don’t have the numbers to have scouts everywhere. Removal of white swords actually helps the higher population servers.

Remove or increase the AoE cap would change the entire dynamics of WvW. Instead of stacking, commanders would say “spread!”. Would be an awesome and interesting change.

If you take away the AoE cap, then you have to remove the CD cap…and of course, the AoE Boon cap.

It is preferable that they leave the system as it is now, unless you want to play at 1fps in WvW or PvE.

Ehmm there was no AoE cap before and the game ran fine. The AoE cap came in a couple of months after game launched.

But GW2 is a crash/dc heavy game, and it’s all too frustrating to lose 3 points even though you reconnect asap.

I agree with this. Several times multiple people in party have begun getting heavy lagg spikes and/or disconnects in PvP, WvW and PvE. Just yesterday someone in map party Lion’s Arch asked “I am constantly disconnecting, anyone else?” and some other guy replied “In this game it’s normal, get used to it.”

So yeah… most of the disconnects are not on players but on server load/connectivity.

white sword removal didn’t bring anything good to wvw. the op saying he caps undefended stuff is exactly the kind of thing thats bores us to death. I’d much rather have a fight vs players than fight structures.

Perfect. Then have i got a deal for you. It is calle sPvP. Specifically designed arounf points that are not structures, and fighting other players.

By the way, I really liked you on the podcast you used to participate in, but stop using the words “us” and “we”. No one voted or elected you, or empowered you, to speak for others here. We have differing opinions, and that is fine. But drop the attempts to give you opinion more weight then others, by implying that you speak for anyone other then yourself.

When I say us or we I mean my group/guild which was clearly referred before in that post. I am a guild leader and I’m very aware of how everyone in my guild/group feels about the change so I can kinda speak for them. I don’t pretend or care to speak for anyone else.

As for the “go spvp” remark, I don’t get it. Am I not supposed to pvp in wvw? Shouldn’t I be allowed to have fun the way I always had in wvw? What makes fighting structures and not players so interesting? Shouldn’t you go PvE by that logic then? Not saying you should, but you have to see how flawed such logic is.

I am with Maskaganda on this. I know TCHU from my time on gandara and they were (and I believe still are) one of the best, if not the best, small scale squads on the whole server, and in that regard I think he’s a good representative of small scale on other servers too.

I know a lot of people think SPvP is for “fighting other players” where WvW is for “following commander and taking stuff”. Well, you’re wrong. WvW is a PvP mode as much and more than SPvP will ever be, because SPvP does not work around fighting but around bunkering/capping points. Courtyard is the only exception, but it’s implementation is so poor that only premades are fighting there, haven’t tried with a guild group myself yet. Anyways, WvW is still the best place for people who like PvP.

When Maskaganda says it bores “us” I imagine he’s speaking for his guild and possibly other small scale/havoc/roaming squads. My guild even has a sort of rule that we only take structures that are defended by other server, because that way it’s challenging and fun. Taking empty structures? Waaw, you must feel so good. If that’s your thing, I suggest you go do PvE instead of WvW.

T9/T8 (we got one up) europe is mixed. Those who liked to zerg and karmatrain before do it more now. Those who didn’t do zerging but like to defend still try but fail more often than not because there’s no swords and it’s hard to defend even if scouting. Those who play havoc, have a harder time to find fights.

So all in, removing white swords promotes karmatraining more than anything else.

This is actually a very good suggestion. The outnumbered servers would need the help a lot more than the crowded servers, thus they could at least know where to go in order to defend.

My opinion: white swords should not be removed; BUT if they are removed, at least add them for the outnumbered servers.

On T9 EU we really have to look for fights by running across the whole map and even then it occurs that we can’t find anyone to fight. White swords allowed us to find enemies and fights that much faster. Now it’s just a long series of karma training empty camps, towers and keeps.

I can spend an entire day to upgrade the UW home border(alone or with 1-2 more players) by running back and forth between keeps, towers and camps upgrading, walking dollies and calling for help if I see a big group show up. Upgraded keeps is the only thing keeping people interested in defending the borderland in the first place and now there’s no way for me to tell if something is attacked if I’m not there and therefore there’s no way for me to defend or call for help until it’s too late, if I dont happen to be where the enemy attacks just as they decide to do so. Right now I will not be able to upgrade much at all and I will have to be there the entire time from paper to wp.

Now since you’re from FoW you probably know how UW is at night/morning. If not you can check the income evolution for our matchup(Week 50): http://mos.millenium.org/servers/view/2/

All day it’s about equal and every night FoW score skyrockets because UW and BT don’t have enough(sometimes, no) players at this time. I mean for UW it’s usually 0-5 wvw players total on all maps at late night- unless we got a karma train going, which is very rare. And now the very few people we have at night won’t even be able to tell which structures are attacked before they flip. If a few pve player should dare hop into wvw at night they’ll have no clue what to do and probably just leave shortly after.

This change is as we can see no good for low pop/bad coverage servers and it doesn’t help smallscale fights since the groups are more likely to miss eachother than to meet in a fight. That said I still enjoy the extra need for callouts of enemy movement and such at primetime but that doesn’t really work for any timeslot when servers are low on population.

(BTW: The time UW got a high tick on early wednesday was a hacker capping all keeps in no time at all and we’re all sorry about that. It shouldn’t be allowed to happen.)

While I totally agree that white swords make defending tedious, there’s the (sad) fact that the PPT score FoW has comes through some hardcore nightcappers with golems (I think it’s the guild lpe). The removal of white swords will have some impact (since you can’t see what’s under attack and by the time you arrive it’s likely gone), but if our coverage at night is just higher, there’s not much to do about it (I don’t like it either).

I do think removal of white swords makes a very big change during daytime cause towers are getting randomly flipped, unless we go scouting all the time and tracking the enemy movements. Of course there’s still fights to be had, but mostly only by going into the heart of the enemy zones or waiting on their spawn. For example yesterday we had some great fighting at Blacktide EB keep and managed to defend it one hour a half with 4 people. :p

So removing white swords is in my opinion overall bad: people who liked to zerg before are just karmatraining all the time now, or golem rushing empty structures etc… which is a degradation of what WvW is into something like EotM. Defending+upgrading becomes pointless. The one positive thing I see about this change is that it appears to break immersion: you can’t just look at map and see where there’s a fight, you really have to go and look for them. Defending a structure successfully takes some balls now.

RNG in itself is okay, but it should not be the only way to achieve something.

Take precursors, just a couple of days ago a thread was on front page about “how many precursors did you get”. Most of the replies said “Zero”. Then, oddly, there were some people getting multiple precursors. It seems, thus, that RNG does not always have the best implications: i.e. it doesn’t necessarily distribute goods justly.

What we need is something like this:
To begin with your chance for precursor is (I don’t know what it is) 0,00001% on a random drop from any mob, on any level. Each time you don’t get a precursor, your chance should then be multiplied by a solid factor. For example in mystic forge you get 0 precursors after spending 50g while someone else gets 3 precursors with 50g. I don’t think 50g is a sum of gold where you deserve to get a precursor out of it, but consider you go on and a certain point you spent 299g. You still don’t have the precursor.

Now lets rethink the concept by adding a multiplier. For every x tries with rare weapons where you didn’t get a precursor, your chance for precursor becomes 100%. The moment you get a precursor, your chance is reset to the original value (0,00001%).
For each time you don’t get a precursor your chance goes up so the next time you have more chance to get a precursor out.

This will give everyone a chance to get a legendary, without eliminating the hard work, but by giving an equal chance to everyone though.

PPK doesn’t seem to make any difference to scoring atm… my server has a couple of nightcappers that take everything at night with omegas (yes I know… >_>) and we’re overpowering the other 2 servers cause of that. PPK doesn’t seem to make much difference: what about making kills count for more than 1 point or restricting points gotten from holding objectives?

Well sorry that I vented my annoyance, and it certainly wasn’t the end of the world that I didn’t get to complete this daily, but still I think it’s rather contra-productive to limit what people can do when they want to.

As many have quoted “Play how you want”, this kind of implementation really counters “play how you want” and tells you to log in at a certain time or else, do some other daily you might not want to do.

So yeah, I think adding world boss to daily is a stupid idea, at least for those with limited playtime.

I log on about 1 hour when I have time, I see on daily there’s the shaman, so I think ‘OK lets do it’. I arrive in Wayfarer’s foothills and see the event is up. I go to complete it and… no champion. Some guy tells me that the champions only spawn on certain hours cause of “world boss chart thing”. I ask him how much time left till it spawns, he replies; 45 minutes. You have to be kidding me. Either you keep world bosses the fk out of daily, or you make champs respawn every time the event starts over, so people with limited playtime can complete the dailies without having to log in at specific times in a crowded map.

If I am running on a map its for a real reason not to troll players or look for fights. If thats what you want, join a zerg, if you want small fights/duels go pvp.

Mate… open your eyes. Your server placement means nothing. Your PPT score means nothing. All that matters, in this game, is that you have fun. If you have fun by fighting people or dueling, I see no problem in that because WvW is designed as a PvP mode, where SPvP is designed as a point cap mode. The best fights you can get are on WvW, not SPvP, where everyone runs a bunker spec.

T1 player wants to run around solo and have solo fights, claims nobody is there but somehow is being hit by siege.

Conclusion: in T1 siege is operated by the ghosts of all the people that used to WvW.

Further conclusion: me roaming as (primarily) a staff ele for years now gives me no insight that roaming is alive and well no matter what time I do it on my non-T1 server.

Final conclusion: whiners will, when not having exactly what they want delivered to them, whine.

I believe that’s the truth, though I wouldn’t dare say that there aren’t a lot of people going away from the game and wvw because Arenanet is not improving anything. On T9 I get a lot of roaming fights personally. Also about duels and fair fights, in my experience they only happen on the lower tiers aswell.

16 hours of play in T1 (so far)

Mhmm I have never been in T1.

Highest up was T3 EU, in Gandara. My experiences there were blobs blobs and more blobs. On gandara roaming was a total let-down because you couldn’t get any good fights at all, either you moved with a pug blob and pugmander or you had to run with a guild zerg of 20+ filled with hammer warriors and staff guardians.

So T3: bad for roaming, good for zerging

I then moved to Vabbi (T9 EU) and had a great time there. Vabbi was a limited but hardcore community of roamers and a few specialised guilds. Pugs were virtually non-existent. The other servers would mostly be outnumbering Vabbi during that time, but blobs or zergs were also uncommon, so fights never got 50 vs 3, but it was still challenging.

T9: great roaming guilds, awesome solo roaming, no zergs

For a change I decided to try Ring of Fire (T6 EU) and didn’t enjoy it at all. This was during the second Tournament. Really disappointing server to play on. Experience very very similar to playing on gandara: guild zergs, virtually no roamers and pug blobs.

So my new server is Fissure of Woe (T9 EU). FoW plays a lot like Vabbi, mostly because it was one of their frequent match-ups. It has a great community and a lot of small scale groups. I’m part of a small scale guild that runs 3-7 people at all times. There are a couple of pug commanders here, but the guild roaming groups usually go their own way and fight against guilds, pug zergs or roamers from other servers.

My guild roams with 7 guys max (most of the time more 3-5) and we regularly take up to 25 people on at same time. Down a few then get the kitten out. Rinse & repeat. It’s fun.

Sure but I have seen several people just leave the game (which incurs them a penalty) or stand idle in spawn when it got obvious we were fighting a premade. I don’t really like either getting slaughtered/spawncamped for 5 minutes or having to go afk and wait for the match to end.

I agree with OP that “inflation pushes progression beyond reach” because that’s the truth.

As a WvW player the maximum amount of gold I can get (by selling my materials from loot bags/salvaging stuff/completing monthly/lucky drops) is around 100g every few months. Legendaries and every other kind of very expensive stuff is unreachable for me.

The rate at which I earn gold is so slow (when doing what I want: roaming), that by the time I can get 100g the prices have gone up again and again. To add, I don’t play one character (currently 4) so that makes it double as hard if I would want to get ascended gear or a legendary.

My response to this is… I don’t try to get either of those. It’s too time-consuming, it forces me into content I do not like and in the end… I couldn’t care less. The thing is, that some people do care and they can’t even dream of reaching that goal.

Where OP is wrong though is that he blames this on the gamers rather than on ArenaNet: if they had made it possible to earn a legendary WITHOUT needing to spend 1k+ gold for a precursor (instead making a precursor questline), there would be no need to farm gold. The same thing counts for ascended gear: nerf the requirements and everyone could get their ascended gear.

So who’s to blame? Not the gamers, but the developers.

Played 10 games (both ranked and unranked) with pug yesterday and here are the results:

  • 6 ranked games: 4 premades (lost) – 2 pug groups (1 win/1 loss)
  • 4 unranked games: 2 premades (lost) – 2 pug groups (2 wins)
  • 6 losses out of 10 against premades
  • Several dragon players in the ranked games (i’m wolf rank)

Basically 6 out of 10 matches were premade vs. pug group. Not really nice when you’re playing on the pug side. So if I say this game mode is unbalanced.. I think I’m right.

What I’d like to suggest is two changes to the way experience scrolls (the ones that give you 20 levels) work:
- Allow us to use them past level 20 aswell! For example, if you don’t mind doing level 1 to 20 without a scroll but instead wish to use the scroll at level 20, 40 or 60, you should get that possibility (or anywhere in between).
- A second suggestion which has been made here (not by me) is mostly quality of life: experience scrolls do not seem to stack (but are viewed as seperate items), would be better that way.

Reasons why?

  • Leveling is tedious when you have done it multiple times (I’ve gotten level 80 on 12 characters already)
  • Most people wish to get to end-game as fast as possible because that’s where the fun is at: WvW, Dungeons and what not.

So not true. I started GW1 about a year ago and it certainly took me longer than that.

If you side-track and do side-stuff sure. But if you just do the primary quests and the missions it doesn’t take more than a few days (with much of the time spent grinding stuff in order to progress ^^).

Come on dude… that’s bull kitten. Every game can be rushed through in days if you are like that. There’s people who completed skyrim in 50 hours and then there’s people who spend thousands of hours discovering all of it’s mysteries and getting the most out of the can. The same goes for GW1 and most likely GW2 aswell. My first 500 hours in GW2 I played through most of the side-quests as many players did. Most of it was enjoyable because I saw stuff I didn’t see before. Nowadays, I only do PvP/WvW because I still get new situations there because of the amazing combat (not zerging).

New Class for Season 3

I’m down with a new profession. Just as long as they don’t detract from the others already in the game.

I’m against another holy based one since we do have the Guardian and another dark/death based one since we have the Necromancer. It would have to be something so completely different with its’ own “sphere” of influence.

Guardian – Holy/Divinity/Protection
Engineer – Machinery/Alchemy
Ranger – Nature/Spirits
Warrior – Military/Warfare
Thief – Stealth/Shadows
Necromancer – Darkness/Astral/Death
Mesmer – Illusions/Psychic/Dimension
Elementalist – 4 Classical Elements/Weather

If they can find a completely new “sphere” that hasn’t already been filled then sure. But if it is going to be something like a heavy armoured version of the Necromancer or a light armoured version of the Guardian then I’m against it. Necromancers already have a hard enough time as it is for there to be a heavy armoured type that impedes upon one of its’ main roles.

It’s probably a better idea to just expand upon the pre-existing classes. Give each one a new weapon proficiency or a new set of skills. Let people make a build for the Guardian that emulates the Dervish or Monk. Or let people make a Necromancer build that fits their idea of a Death Knight, plus release some skins that give a slight mail armour appearance and you got yourself a “Death Knight”. I’m sure improving the existing 8 would provide alot more variety than adding a 9th.

Hi there, I gave this some thought.
You got something interesting going here, because “spheres” are basically a combo of lore background, moral character and ability. I think we need to forget about the moral character though, because each class can be a vicious killer in this game.. there is no cute healer class that is buffing, healing and throwing around stars here (I didn’t mention butterflies).

In short: there’s no such thing as a good or evil class. An “evil” counterpart of the guardian would just be a class with other skill effects: less blue light and more dark colours. In my opinion that would be totally silly and pointless.

So what we are looking for is something “different”.
We have

  • ‘holy magic righteous knight and protector’ (guardian)
  • ‘weapon master, soldier, brawler dedicated to the war god’ (warrior)
  • ‘sneaky dagger-assassin, shadow mage and rogue’ (thief)
  • ‘ingenious inventor, alchemist and technician’ (engineer)
  • ‘survivalist, wildlife hero, archer and pet-lover’ (ranger)
  • ‘death-aspected mage, summoner and occultist’ (necromancer)
  • ‘elemental mage, using the energy of primaries’ (elementalist)
  • ‘illusionist and duellist, confuser and mindbender’ (mesmer)

What we don’t have…?

Mysticism: Dervish

In some ways it looks like the guardian, calling on the power of gods, yet at the same time they have an occultist feel about them. Prayers are part of their weapons-dance.

Spiritualism/martial artist
The monk using staff or fists (brass knuckles anyone) – Asian…

Nature mage: Druidism
Ranger fills this to a certain part (wilderness survival), elementalist as well (earth/water).

It’s not easy to come up with a new class out of nowhere, but what’s more important is that it’s quite possible to add things that (traditionally) do not belong to a certain ‘myth’ to give it more depth, more interesting features.

Totally! What this game needs is more elaborate mechanisms in PvE, that require different roles to be filled.

I think GW1 did it really well. Minion masters (to overwhelm opponents or to make them target random pets), control builds (with massive crowd control), healers, protters (damage mitigation), nukers, etc. The most optimal parties always had all of them, and there was at least 1 useful build for each profession.

EDIT

  • Prot Monks, ER Infuse Elementalists (using prot monk skills), Ritualists, “Imbagon” Paragons;
  • Minion Master Necros, Minion Bomber Necros, Signet of Spirit Ritualists;
  • Panic Mesmers, Illusion Mesmers;
  • Fire Elementalists, Mark of Pain Necros, any melee cleave builds;

4 different roles right here, and that list doesn’t even includes the classic “tank” role (which was kind of niche in GW1).

I totally agree: GW1 combat was so much more in depth and allowed different approaches. There were actually teams building around different builds. “Zerk” was non-existent because there were no stats bound to gear: you only had runes and attributes (based on your class).

GW1 had the problem of waiting for healers etc. So no I would rather not have a game with forced roles. GW1 was good. But gw2 combat is completely different. And its good in its own way.

Wrong. In GW1 you had the ability to choose a secondary class pretty easily (you could change secondary profession for a low price in certain hubs). If you wanted to be able to heal yourself the choice went for monk, ritualist or paragon secondary.

I really think removing white swords is a bad idea…

  • On FoW we use this to actually find fights, it’s the most reliable way to find enemy players and have some fun.
  • On top white swords stimulate defending: you’re warned of people attacking your claims and lots of players actually go there on purpose.
