[Suggestion]Core-zone Hearts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SlippyCheeze.5483

Please give all of the Hearts in the core zones a character-bound Jug of Liquid Karma or something. The hearts don’t have to be repeatable like the LS3.

I just want to feel like I am being rewarded when I am doing world completion.

In addition to the cash and karma rewards that already exist, you also get map rewards for event completion, and a map completion reward when you finish a map.

Can you explain why you feel it isn’t rewarding enough in more detail? Nobody is going to tell you that you don’t feel the current rewards are too small, but unless you tell us, we are not going to understand why either.

Another best solo class thread

We all know necro/reaper and ranger overall always seem to be rated the best at soloing but truth be told I’ve played enough of each of those classes.

I kinda tried a condition daredevil which seemed really strong but couldn’t solo champions I could on my necro.

So I’m looking for a new solo class to tackle hot maps and events with ease

So other then necro and ranger who do you think wins with the best soloing capabilities with what kind of build?

Warrior, with adrenal healing, is reportedly extremely good at soloing things. My own experience is that this is a little true, but also, it’s a very different way to handle it than on necro or ranger.

So, I think that’s probably what you are after. I’d point to metabattle PvP and WvW builds as the way to get started: they focus on “not dying” stats and utilities, unlike the glass cannon PvE builds.

This is just a big griefing tool at the Claw event.

I’d change it so the expiration effect logs the person out to the character select screen.

This is probably best in a separate thread, and when you create one, you should describe how this is being abused to spoil the game for others. I honestly don’t know, and it’s possible that the anet team don’t either, without you telling us.

So… the good news and the bad news are the same: both of those show substantial packet loss between your computer and your router, and also between your router and your ISP. Those first couple of hops.

That’s bad news, in the sense that it says the problem is with your network. That’s never fun.

The good news is that it also means that you can work directly to resolve it. Look to, eg, replacing the cable if this is wired, or reducing congestion or moving closer to the AP if wireless. That should help with the packet loss on the way to your modem.

You should also talk to your ISP about the packet loss, since that second hop is “their” equipment — the stuff between your modem and their network.

Finally, loading web pages is much less obviously hurt by packet loss at low levels. They just retransmit the information, and it takes a fraction of a second longer for the page to load. In an online game, though, you see delays in skill activation, rubber-banding and teleporting as the game resyncs state with the server, etc.

It’s also possible that the issue is some sort of throttling or packet filtering gone bad, in which case it only breaks GW2 (and similar games), but not so much other things. Again, this would be local to your network or ISP, and it’s definitely not the first place to start investigating.

I’m pretty sure that when you enter a PvP area your “saved” location is still the PvE one that you would teleport back to if you manually left the PvP thing. eg: the lobby, a pvp match, a regular wvw map, or the edge of the mists.

So, when you go to character select the same thing happens: out of the pvp instance, and when you log back in, back to the saved PvE location.

So … something is making your OS remove those files, and it’s pretty much 200 percent certain that thing is not the GW2 client. I’d encourage you to look at security tools, system restore points, etc, and see if something is causing that to happen?

The other thing I can imagine is if you are having some really, really strange disk write issues, causing all data changes to be lost or something on that drive.

Anyway, look to the OS and security style software for diagnosing and resolving this.

For as much as I loathe anything remotely “elfy,” there’s something about the Sylvari perspective that I find positive and refreshing. Even after Southsun, Scarlet, and Mordremoth, I’m still somewhat fond of them. (But srsly though, that years worth of bad PR wore me down…)

I don’t see the “elf” sort of thing, though that might be my initial exposure — I think of the Tolkien elves, and then secondly the unworldly Celtic versions, and the Sylvari really don’t quite fit with either.

I really do like them rather a lot, though. Especially the voicing.

The concept makes absolutely no sense. Why not just not give us that gold in the first place? By not giving it to us, and not taking it away, it’s two less things to worry about.

So, this is more or less MMO economics 101, but … if we went with your theory, and didn’t have anything that removed gold from the economy, you have one of two things happen:

Thing one, players can “create” gold out of thin air. When they kill a goblin, it drops newly minted gold, which the player then has. The can spend it, or save it, but ultimately the amount of gold floating around increases, right?

So, by changing the amount of gold that drops changes the slope of the line of the amount of money in the economy, but with nothing to consume it, the amount just moves around and around. That line keeps going up and up as time passes — inflation.

Thing two, players can’t create gold, just move it around. So, if a critter is gonna have some sort of reward, it’s gotta come from somewhere. Once the very first players have looted the dungeon, where is the reward for the next person to come from?

So, that’s why it can’t work. Unless money goes out somewhere — a money sink — you end up with inflation running rampant. Over time the cost of everything necessarily goes up, because everyone has more gold, blah blah. It kinda sucks. (Also, this is why in WoW the price of everything is in gold, and copper and silver coins are just noise — inflation made them worthless.)

In GW2 there are a bunch of them, including vendors, waypoints, consumable boosts, etc. They eat money so that the economy doesn’t constantly keep getting more and more flooded with money, which just raises the cost of everything.

What eater Boodstone, dragonite...ect

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Is the most profitable. I have most of the eaters. They seem to be the same as for as profits go, then again, I’m not sure. Does anyone have thoughts on this?

You could look at the items they reward for their consumption, and compare them, but the TL;DR version is: they reward basically the same list of things, so all of them are equal.

I can’t remember ever being put off a game by which version of DX it used. Or even checking which versions it used.

Yeah, I don’t think anyone here really does, either — they instead use it as a “proxy” for their real complaints:

One, that they would like graphical performance improved, possible mistaking that a higher DX version would cause that implicitly, or that it would imply a rewrite that makes it happen.

Two, that not upgrading is a sign the game is “abandoned” and dead. Which seems … like a poor way to measure that to me, but hey, some folks see what they see.

It won’t hurt to send a message to anet support with those details. They can pass it through to their network people, who can maybe contact Telstra Global or something.

Anyway, one other possible option is a VPN or something — because it’ll send your packets to the VPN server first, it might go through another route that avoids the problem. Not a nice solution, but if nothing else helps, it’s something you can try.

The new client is on it’s way. Someone data-mined it on the CDN recently, though it’s definitely NOT yet released. My guess would be that this means it’s closing in on a “friends and family” style alpha soon, and we are probably between three and nine months to release.

Which, coincidentally, sounds similar to the timeframe for the next expansion, so I wouldn’t die of shock if they tried to get it out just before the release of that — enough time to iron out the worst crashers, just prior to the release.

Build for solo PvE on a Boosted Necromancer?

SlippyCheeze.5483

Oh, and it’s berserker for PvE power DPS, vipers for condition DPS, mostly. metabattle.com and quantify.eu will tell you the fine details of the best theorycrafting done at the moment.

I’m sorry but this is the one class that i don’t trust meta battle for. Use it as a guideline, but more optimal builds exist.

Links to those builds would probably be much more useful to the original poster — who clearly isn’t in the market for theorycrafting their own — than just the assertion.

I’m interested in that also, just to see what the differences are.

You are correct My days of theorycrafting and hardcore number crunching are already gone, I cannot dedicate as much time as before to gaming (that’s why nowadays my focus is open world pve – map completion, world events/bosses…)

I had a look at some of those pages, but seemed to me that they were focused on group content (fractals/raids), so I didn’t pay much attention to them. Is there a section for open world builds?

Thanks!

No, but grabbing the fractal build and swapping in movement speed or something is the easy way to get there. The difference between general “open world” builds and fractal builds tends to be how much utility is assumed and/or how much group support it focuses on.

You won’t miss much running one, and also, you won’t really find many “open world” guides out there — the answer is “anything works, so use whatever”. Hence grab the fractal build, and tune it a little to what you miss.

(For example, I run the condition reaper build, save for subbing in the sigil of the locust for move speed, rather than blood is power.)

Teq lag?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: SlippyCheeze.5483

SlippyCheeze.5483

I have found that when the game starts lagging, changing graphics don’t matter. I also run a gtx1060, btw. The only setting that seems to cure a drop in frame rate for me is setting the quality and number of player models to lowest. I can play any world event as long as I turn off all other players. All the other graphics don’t appear to impact the framerate for me.

OK. So, one of the limitations in the GW2 client is that there is a single thread that ends up being the blocker on frame rate when there are a lot of player models to be drawn, so if you have eliminated all the GPU performance related limits, single thread CPU performance ends up being your performance limiter.

It sounds like this is exactly what you are hitting, and it’s not uncommon, because the laws of physics mean that there isn’t a CPU available that is fast enough to maintain 60FPS with the full set of models.

We also know from the anet developers that changing that single thread into multiple is a huge amount of work (which maps with the reality that making that sort of change to software is super-difficult, and full of all sorts of exciting bugs when you do) so it’s not likely to change soon.

If you see the measured “ping” increase, that’s not usual. If you just see your FPS drop down to the 20-30 region, nothing else, and changing model count helps … that’s a known limitation.

(on a side note, does anyone else experience extremely low FPS within the trading post interface? like, everything around seems to roll smoothly, but the interface itself responds so laggy and slow I can never get the “you’re selling stuff too fast”-error)

Well, I get the fade in and fade out animations at, like, two frame a second or so. It’s super-janky looking and feeling. It’s not too laggy, but it is kinda meh.

It’s probably something odd about the interaction between the 3D rendering pipeline and the web browser process being used to draw that; I’ve experienced similar things with other embedded web properties in other games. (Like, one used the same technique for “tutorial”, and it was both super-fuzzy, and really slow to respond.)

Teq lag?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: SlippyCheeze.5483

SlippyCheeze.5483

Yup, that pretty much confirms some sort of network trouble. Teq probably shows it more than other things because it’s busier — and more models means more things for the server to report to the client so it can draw them.

Try following https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network and let us know where it shows the problem to be on the network between you and the server while doing Teq. I’d be interested to know.

If it turns out to be at the anet servers, a support ticket will get them looking at it — and if you file one, the first thing they ask for is exactly that set of diagnostics, so may as well skip the round trip on the ticket.

If you zap offline, from the in-game perspective, it sounds most likely that your issue is network related. https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network is a good guide to tracking down where that issue is coming from.

It’s also possible that the game is crashing hard and that’s taking you offline, but it’s pretty easy to rule out the easy network side if things first. I’d also check for hardware problems; grab GPU-Z and make sure the card is at PCIe 16x, for starters.

It’s worth noting that while your general network connection may not fail, it’s possible something between you and the GW2 server does, and so it triggers only for that specific game, nothing else…

How to start Heart of Thorns storyline ?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: SlippyCheeze.5483

SlippyCheeze.5483

That “ability” is actually a mastery, a character progression system that is available in HoT. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mastery

You can play the story out of order — go to your hero dialog, find the story journal in the icons on the far left, and play whatever chapter you want to play.

I’d strongly encourage you to play through the personal story end to end first, though. HoT is … an example of how GW2 does horizontal progression, by increasing the challenge level of enemies that you fight.

It’s quite the learning curve when you first hit it, though eventually you will have mastered the strategies for dealing with them, and find the mobs fairly easy. Doing through personal story, or levelling a character normally, gives you a gradual ramp up in difficulty as you go through, allowing you to master essential skills such as dodging, spotting attack animations, gaining some understanding of utility skills for control and cleansing, etc.

Lake Doric engineer-only leather farms

SlippyCheeze.5483

What’s the thinking behind the engineer-only leather farms in Lake Doric? I haven’t done this episode on mine yet and wanted to join a farm group but all were engineer-only.

People figured out that engineers with turrets could sit at the bottom, throw down a new turret when the previous one expired, and farm effectively. So, it became the current fashion, and anet have moved to make it less compelling, but the players have not caught up with that yet.

eg: the thinking is that players feel like this is the most efficient way to farm leather, so that’s what they do.

Your best bet is probably to start your own farm group that isn’t engi-only, and let other people join you.

It’s not hard to code a pity timer unless you want to make the formula really complicated with some kind of weird logic or something.

I suspect it would be more challenging than you imagine, because it’s hard to define what should increase, or consume, the pity timer. Is it just the skins, or also miniatures? Does the timer count for each individually, or does getting one reset it for all of them? Do you count only the super-rare things, or also rare ones?

eg: it’s not necessarily just code complexity, it’s the business rules that you need to define, that make this challenging.

Combat should be redesigned

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SlippyCheeze.5483

SlippyCheeze.5483

I don’t think we’re being victims of “bad class balance”; I think we’re just getting closer and closer to realize that combat needs a serious overhaul. Allow me to explain.

We are playing a game where instanced content is all about dealing as much damage as you can if you don’t weant to die. Every encounter in the game (save the Nightmare Fractal and similar, which I’ll cover in a little bit) is all about HP bloated targets which take too long to die and therefore there are two viable methods of dealing with them: skipping or pumping out your damage.

I’m not going to say that you don’t experience this, but I don’t think your analysis is actually correct. The same argument has been made in the game before — especially around the “clone quantify” LFG approach for raids, in which it’s what quantify do, or nothing.

It’s also true that was a super-common position in WoW — for the sake of simplicity, from WotLK onward — regarding their dungeons and raids. In that case, it is actually more possible than in GW2 to simply out-gear the content, and deliver so much damage that you don’t deal with mechanics.

In both cases I’d suggest the popular view isn’t actually as broad-based as people imagine: most people in raids, both in GW2 and WoW, don’t employ the absolute best theoretical DPS builds, and in both cases, clear the content before the strategies and “best in slot” gear/build is known.

It’s also true at the other end: plenty of people complete content without using the “meta” builds, without gearing for absolute maximum damage output, and without using the “best” strategy … by simply mastering the mechanics, and doing them correctly.

It’s not false that “maximum dps == minimum mechanics”, but it’s also not true that this is the only possible way to complete content, or that it is the only way people do complete content.

OTOH, free-form response gives much higher quality data about why people think something, and avoids the “great except for one thing, do I rate it 5 star, or 1 star for the terrible bit?!?” problem.

Give the player some sort of indication if the squads are on a map that is already full.
Just look if the commander of the squad is on a map that is full and write this automatically in [brackets] behind the squad description or add a filter to search only for maps that are empty.

Unfortunately, your idea is nice, but it’s never going to be reliable at the scale of GW2. Because changing maps necessarily involves two separate map shards — and most of the time, two separate computers running them — as well as whatever the global backend for LFG is, there can’t be a global and correct view of the state of the maps the groups are on.

It also can’t tell you if you will get into the world or not: if the world has one map slot, and two people try and join at the same time, one of them is going to miss out — but it wouldn’t be accurate to tell either of them “world is full” at the time they started to join.

Finally, this also assumes there is a 1:1 relationship between squad and map instances, which isn’t true. The better world boss groups I’ve encountered have had two, or three, maps — once the first one fills, they ask for a “good” map for overflow, and put that into a separate group so people can still get into something with a shot at success.

In that case there is no definition of the world being full or not that makes sense, because the squad is spread over multiple worlds, deliberately.

I’d encourage, instead, you to advocate for that sort of overflow map approach to dealing with full maps in LFG, rather than what is, sadly, technically impossible to achieve.

GW2 has three to four “main” busy threads, which means that the percentage CPU used is going to vary based on how many cores your system has, if you are not showing individual core / thread performance.

One of the anet developers looked at this recently, and let us know that it isn’t a simple change to make — and, sadly, that there are currently no plans to add 4K support.

Super easy fight for me. Did not go down once. Did it with DH and Necro.

This is probably true, but it isn’t particularly helpful: unless you can share why it was easy, or provide education to people who are not at the same skill level as you, then all it does is mock someone who doesn’t have the same level of skill — for whatever reason — as you do.

Instead, either focus on explaining how to improve the ability to complete the fight, or just stay quiet.

No there is a bug possibly related to loading from a failed instance to a successful instance that will cause all great/grand chests to appear as already opened. This may or may not be permanent until reset.

Wait, are you saying that the bug is reproduced by this sequence of events:

1. Go to AB
2. Participate in the meta, including octovine
3. octovine fails
4. Join on a map where the meta succeeded
5. great and grand chests show as open

…because that is what I understand, and if so, it sounds like working as intended, not a bug. eg: you can unlock all chests once per successful meta that you participate in.

My board is a gtx 1060 6gb = /… I did this test already, I put everything in the least possible, and even then, I still have ping peaks of more than 4k in teq only.

Oh! You have network problems. https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network is a great guide to narrowing down where they are. Once you know that it’s much easier to work with the appropriate people to fix it — which might be your ISP tech support, or anet.

Once you know, and if it is anet, it’s time to file a support ticket.

Hate to bump these difficult to develop endpoints, but I’m doing it so maybe some inspiration sparked meanwhile!

Highly unlikely, because as noted, local API. I’d suggest you are likely to get better results contacting deltaconnected, the developer of arcdps, and asking if they can throw something together for you or whatevs.
