I’d agree this is a problem if there were any decent Spirit Shard sinks.

That’s kinda what I’m facing right now. 3000+ and not much to do with them.

With enough willingness to click things, https://gw2efficiency.com/currencies/spirit-shards helps guide you to at least somewhat profitable conversions. (around 3 shards per gold earned, so that would be around 900 gold or so sitting there….)

And is considering trying to solo the dungeons for the heck of it

Hey, we have that in common, I tried to solo Twilight Arbor in story mode (because I thought that “story” means you can solo it, why the heck do you even let people in when they come alone??) but stopped after dying a few times at the Spider Queen.

Let’s do it together then! :P

FWIW, I did almost every dungeon story mode solo, just for the challenge. Couldn’t get past the wretched bird ability at the end of HoTW yet, but … otherwise, it was possible.

Not saying this to run you down or anything, just a reason why going into story mode alone is something some players would like.

And I think you’re skipping over how Thief, as a DPS class, has access to “Heal on Crit damage” (Every other attack with level 80 Berserker exotic). It’s also faster and easier to use on PvE maps than most classes due to mobility AND stealth, and is still Good-Great in raids.

You wouldn’t be the most wanted for in Raids with a thief, but you would be able to pull your weight.

That’s just a self-heal, so yes, it’s convenient in raids, but it’s not the same degree of group support demand that PS Warrior gets.

Please, return to old, classic designs!

I am of the opinion that Anet does need to cool it with the Asura Magi-tech. Seems like EVERYTHING is solved with Asura magi-tech, and it kind of diminishes the other races importance.

Only that? I think that the Asura really diminished the significance of other races when they made the decision “will Ebonhawke stand or fall”, by way of allowing humans to ship in supplies and troops, but refusing the charr access to invade.

Once you are deciding which way wars between other races fall out, they are much less significant in the whole picture. They fight their little wars, but they only win if the asura see it to their own advantage…

Ok I bought a character slot and I think I’ve narrowed down the classes I want to try to warrior and thief. Who is better at soloing and who is better accepted in raids. If possible please give me a build or two for soloing for both characters. Thank you.

Warrior, by way of Phoenix Strength builds, provides a highly demanded set of group support features. Thief, on the other hand, is a great DPS class, but that’s about it.

So, Warrior, if you want “accepted in raids” to be the deciding factor. On the front of “better at soloing” … probably warrior, though both can do wonderfully at it with the correct build.

Finally, builds? https://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki

The fractal and raid builds there are focused exclusively on group support and damage output, the WvW builds are more focused on being able to survive being hit by things.

Take your pick, or migrate gradually between a WvW build and a Fractal build depending on if you are dying too much or not…

What is the most OP class right now?

Dragon's Stand map kick

SlippyCheeze.5483

The biggest things that will help here are:

One, use the 64-bit client, not the 32-bit client. Memory fragmentation with the 32-bit client means that it will be unable to allocate memory and will die. This is exacerbated by busy maps, lots of people, etc, which … hey, dragon stand, right?

Two, check for network problems between you and anet. It’s possible it is at their end, in which case this is the information you need to present to anet support to help them fix it. It’s possible it is at your ISP, in which case you may be able to fix it with them. Either way, figuring out if that is the root cause is a good step.

This guide helps doing that: https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network

Could we get a new trait and skill overhaul?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SlippyCheeze.5483

SlippyCheeze.5483

We don’t even need an overhaul so much as just a proper balance patch. Give the balance team enough time, and enough devs, to balance all skills, all traitlines, in all classes, along with runes and sigils.

This. So many traits probably just require some numbers tweaks or maybe added functionality. We don’t need a rework. We just need a very large balance patch.

To actually say that we do really need this, we need large scale performance numbers — something that only anet have at this point in time.

Given that arcdps is now permitted enough, and can record combat traces, though, it’s something that someone in the community could work on.

Build a system like the various raid logging tools over in WoW that gather those traces, and can provide aggregate statistics on real world performance of classes, as well as information on builds, and when we have multiple thousands of performance records … we have a convincing base on which to build our case that balance is wrong.

It’s entirely possible that traits that look “out of balance” to you and I are actually performing just fine in the real world, either in some area we don’t see, for playing using a different combination of gear, stats and rotation that has better synergy with it, or simply is actually fine in the real world and is just believed to be poor.

We can assert that balance sucks across the board all we want, but without some actual facts to back that up, all we end up with is a vaguely insulting “the balance team sucks”, and no actionable results.

If you have individual cases where something performs poorly, that’s maybe got a lower burden of proof, but … remember that at the end of the day mechanical performance has to be significant enough to matter.

A concrete example of that is the reaper greatsword auto-attack chain. Technically the third attack causes a very small drop in power output per second in damage. Practically, I’m pretty sure that difference is actually small enough that it is lost in the noise — mistime one single action in a fight, and you lost more DPS than you could possibly gain by cancelling the AA chain after two swings and avoiding the third.

Without concrete real world numbers, though, I can’t prove that. It’s a theory that I would have to get evidence to support, if I wanted to convince someone. I would especially not expect someone who did have numbers to be convinced by my assertion … and the only people who do, right now, have those numbers are the anet developers.

A second concrete series of examples can be found all over these forums, and reddit, from the time when DPS meters were first “permitted” by anet. Suddenly, posts about the fact that the average elementalist in a pug performing at 1/3 or less of the theoretical DPS golem rotation in the real world were everywhere, shocking everyone except people who know from places like WoW that, yes, theory is great and all, but the real world is never so simple.

That certainly supports the thesis that player perception of balance, compared to actual balance, is … not as accurate as you might hope.

Marjory does listen to our input, discuss things with us, but does not always agree. Not blindly obeying is probably the biggest difference between the guild, and the vigil, whispers, or priory — it’s not a military based group, so obedience is not required in the same way.

You are not wrong, though, that various forces outside of just the dragons (and associated things) have kept a number of parts of the guild out.

Uh, and I tend to agree on Braham, though perhaps not for the same reasons; I mostly look at his actions as pretty much exactly what a traumatised 16 year old boy would do in the situation and culture. He needs therapy, not to be dragged into fighting the next dragon.

When he is on a bit more stable a footing, then he might be a great member of the team, but right now his pain and trauma mean he is nothing but a liability — to himself, and to anyone he drags along on his downward spiral to death.

Requests for X-pack 2

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: SlippyCheeze.5483

SlippyCheeze.5483

Conspiracy theory: Anet haven’t prioritized build templates because players who REALLY want to can spend gold/gems on a character slot and gear to manually create their own template on a new character. If so, that is kind of a kitten move.

Honestly that isn’t even a feature that would need to be tied into an expansion either (read: feature pack). I’d play the game more if I could save build templates on a single character.

It’s pretty much zero times that a major studio makes decisions on that basis.

You can change glider skin but not back skin

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SlippyCheeze.5483

SlippyCheeze.5483

Sadly, they’ve told us before that dyeing weapons and backpacks just isn’t doable with the structure of the game code. At least they elected to give us (some) dyeable gliders rather than force the gliders to locked-in colors just to match the back.

It’s not exactly impossible (and it’s not exactly the “game code’s” fault). It’s a matter of the shader artists going back and redoing all the shaders to include dye channels. Basically it’s way too much work with little payoff.

Not just that — game code, data storage, and network all need adjusting too, since you have to have UI to select the dyes, somewhere to store the information, communicate it to every other client so they can draw your dyed backpack, etc.

Each of those has risk that something goes wrong, and even adding a single set of fields for dye channels on the backpack adds up to a lot of outbound data from the servers to all the client out there…

Does ANET just not care about healthbar UI?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’ve been searching around for if there was a way to see your allies health over their heads and I’ve seen threads from years ago talking about how it’s not possible and suggesting this feature.

It’s incredibly disheartening as someone who likes to play support roles that this is pretty much never going to be addressed.

My own theory is this: anet actually do care a great deal about this, but what they care is that it remains the way it is, quite deliberately to avoid the classic “healer” click-the-low-bar model in the game.

So, it’s not that they don’t care, it’s that they don’t agree that this is good for the game they want to build.

Need some class advice

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SlippyCheeze.5483

SlippyCheeze.5483

All the classes are completely capable of being useful and effective in all the content the game offers, including top tier fractals, raids, pvp, and wvw. You should play what you enjoy, and focus on it — because for most players skill differences are more significant than any mechanical differences between the classes.

If you read the forums and reddit, yes, it sounds like everything is dead — pve, pvp, wvw, raiding, all dead. dead as a dodo. dead as the game is. ditto classes: every one is completely useless, unloved, and trivially beaten by everyone else.

This is … depressingly standard, honestly, even when players have access to good information. I remember many times in WoW where a class was suddenly unwanted in raids because it was “nerfed into the ground” according to the forums.

On the flip side, according to the actual raid logs and performance numbers across tens of thousands of runs, they moved less than two percent down in DPS, or they now performed similarly to other classes instead of being grossly overpowered.

So… yeah, people gonna hate. Ditch the haters, play what you want.

Next Elite Specs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SlippyCheeze.5483

SlippyCheeze.5483

Just a few ideas about the next elite specs we are getting. I really want to see new weapons introduced in the game. It’s been almost 5 years since GW2 was released and we haven’t seen any new weapons.

First, you are somewhere between 6 and 18 months late with these suggestions: at this point in development, given the timeframe anet have told us, they are fine tuning the existing design.

Second, it’s almost certainly not going to happen, because it adds extra mechanical complexity, and it also means that you either get “class specific weapons”, or you get multiple elites using the same weapon, neither of which seems like a great way to enthuse people about them.

Plus, it’s not like adding “shortbow” to a class that didn’t have it results in anything even remotely resembling the existing shortbow skills the class had.

The forums are for player to player support. If you want a personal response from anet, file a support ticket.

Most of the crashes described sound exactly like the results of an incompatible overlay injected into the rendering path, such as RivaStatisticsServer, Afterburner, etc, or a memory reading DPS meter that has not been updated.

There were changes in the latest windows 10 update that have causes the former to begin crashing, which shows up as gw2 crashing because, well, they inject their code into the process to show FPS overlays, monitor performance, etc.

I asked for this feature several times since launch, and gave suggestions of organizing events as well, but I have yet to see proof anet has seen any of the topics at all

I’d guess part of that comes from the tone, suggesting that they owe you a personal response for making suggestions about how to “improve” their game while not having any skin in the game. You know they are, like, hiring people to work full time on making it better, right?

Anyway, you won’t get proof they saw your idea, and even if something similar is implemented, no credit … if they saw it or not. (In part because when you suggest things here, you explicitly give them to anet, and when you suggest them anywhere else the developers are required to not look at all…)
