The news post was so idiotic. You made it sound like it was live already, its not. And you don’t include the date it becomes live in the post. We have to view a much older post to see the “supposed” live date….prompting no ‘changes’.

This ‘content’ changes nothing. YOu pretty much said: well people are starting to realize eotm is better and playing there instead…..lets fix that in the cruelest way possible, the usual. And you pretty much told people to transfer now, on the offchance that transfers aren’t blocked from the new system on release….transfer now when the prices are at all time highs to do so.
And once its released you treat anyone who pve’s their butts off to get that gold like chumps. They spend all those resources transferring only to be denied future rewards? lol.

Cruel as usual…..but only some of you can see that, as usual. WvsW as a whole are just pve players who like thinking that because they fight somewhat intelligent ai, they are better than pve players.

A much older post …….. you mean a post from yesterday…. much old such buried so hard to find.

And people that transfer after the 26th won’t get the rewards as stated in the interview….

Smh people will complain about anything..

A thought occurred to me … since I play both Edge of the Mists and The Mist War … does all of this only apply to The Mist War, or does it apply to Edge of the Mists also?

Skirmishes are only part of The Mist War and not part of EoTM. Because of that pips cannot be earned while in EoTM. However, vendors for both the backpack and skirmish rewards will be in EoTM in case of queues.

EOTM will be dead come Tuesday. Pretty unfortunate.

EOTM should never have existed in the first place…. and shouldn’t get the same rewards as WvW since it’s not WvW

You quoted the entire thing, it was hard to tell. I was just giving my opinion on how I don’t think high wvw rank should give you more pips for equivalent contributions between someone 5k+ vs someone ~1k. Higher pvp rank after 80 certainly didn’t give more pips in pvp, and if we didn’t want to look at that measurement in pvp, being legendary or plat really didn’t improve your score gain either! Anyway just my 2cents.

Again wining or losing affected how many pips you acquire same with getting top stats increased pip gain…… since WvW doesn’t have those style of stats they used a variable that is actually pertinent to WvW which is Rank and from the description it only increase the speed at which you can acquire tickets, and if they put a rank requirement per Tier for Backpiece that’s fine too since that simulates the time gate both other Legendary back pieces have….. oh look equivalency

Again they are using things relevant per specific gamemode to acquire the Backpiece specific to that game mode

In Pvp nothing mattered besides winning or losing to get more pips getting top stats gave more pips, pvp could be acquired only during season, pvp didn’t need the gift of fortune but the PvE one did, Fractal back could be acquired whenever, Fractals required Mastery to unlock Vendor so Mastery did matter to even get it, and each reward system per those were specific to the game mode so yeah…….. why shouldn’t WvW have it’s own stipulations??

I’m assuming you’re referring to putting the backpiece behind a wvw rank wall and not the discussion on wvw ranks influencing pip gain? The pvp and pve legendary backpieces are easy to get. I would not consider what you mentioned to be remotely challenging stipulations on getting those backpieces. How much of the wvw population is over 3k wvw ranks? Most people in wvw are not even plat. But say the wvw legendary backpiece required you have 5k wvw ranks. A lot of potential people would be deterred from pursuing that because 5k wvw ranks is simply a huge time investment.

Hopefully Anet doesn’t make it too crazy ^.^

I can’t imagine it being over 2k, both the pve and pvp backpieces just required a little time and are literally achievable by anyone who wants them. For a lot of players I can see them struggling to get to 2k, I see a lot of players under this – it takes a considerable amount of time to grind ranks, not everyone is playing 8hrs/day in a constantly active wvw. There’s so much down time lately because of the population and coverage gaps, so getting levels in off time will be harsh.

I’m excited for wvw stuff!!!

I am a little concerned about this though:

“Pips are earned every tick and are awarded based on the following criteria:
[…]
Your WvW rank.
Whether you’re commanding a squad with at least five people in it.”

So there are benefits to commanding a squad with at least 5 ppl in it, sounds like a way to get maps flooded with tags of mini squads to give “tags” extra pip benefits.

Also for the pve and pvp legendary backpieces mastery points/pvp rank did not give an advantage; I don’t see why wvw rank should give people an advantage here. I can’t see why higher wvw rank should give the 4k person more pips than say the level 200 person if they’re both putting forth the same effort and performing equally.

So the new Tier 3 ascended armour won’t require crafting. Does the Tier 2 armour use the same crafting system as the Fractal and sPvP ascended equipment? As in will we be making Grandmaster’s Marks for them?

Why PvE and Pvp had a few months of getting them without the requirement so WvW should get a few months without it if it ever gets out in. Funny thing in most cases the vendors cost the same if not more for armor…… yet the were made with not needing to require crafting.

Suggestion: Adjust commander reward cap

A fixed cap of 5 players with a full map will lead to small groups just for the extra reward. Not necessarily bad, but scaling according to the current player base on the map will help preventing this problem and allow night players to gain this bonus too.

It’s at least 5 players not total 5 players….

Its sounds good over all. I hope this rewards work out well i can see the maps becoming a bit tag happy with getting added rewards for being a commander with at least 5 ppl. Every one going to be a commander lol.

I still like to see some more skill split from wvw vs pve (raids balancing dose not apply well in wvw).
That can happen some other time and as things progress (so it dose not need to happen all at once just skill by skill that end up being “problems” in wvw but are ok in pve raids).

Now only if we could get a dev to post the blog post in the wvw forms its weird that they have not.

Automated systems do not work for team based content like raids. Heck, they hardly work for PvP.

It takes 1-3 minutes to find a queue in sPvP. I think it is working very well.

And where pray Tell is all the team based content in Pvp? Because yolo queue isn’t team based no matter what players try to say.

I dislike all thieves – when I’m on the opposite end of their wraith of course ;-)

I think for me personally, it’s the fact that there are hardly any skills (or no skills, in many cases), available for you to use to counter the opponent’s stealth. Many classes have condition removal skills and such – why not stealth removal skills/traits?

If only there were skills that caused thieves to be Revealed if only Over half of the classes could do such a thing……..

To be fair there is a difference between content that you decide not to do and content that other people decide you can’t do. Suppose for whatever reason even after “gitting gud” that person is still not at the standard for raids. Even though they really want to do the raid they might not be able to do so if no team will ever accept them. If you decide that easy content is beneath you then the only person who’s restricting you is yourself.

You mean learning simple mechanics? Since hat is the only thing the majority of people fail at in Raids, since the dps requirements are extremely low on the majority of bosses, there isn’t really any git gud aspect besides learning simple mechanics and role. Take by for example at the most 7 out of 10 people need to maintain 7620 dps to kill him with 1 minute on the enrage timer….. most people don’t even come close to hitting the enrage timer….they mostly fail to not paying attention.

Just AAing some classes can maintain 3-5k dps….. let that sink in

No Thief Condi build oneshots any actual WvW build……. sounds like you are fighting a Mesmer no Condi thief builds stealths before engage…..

Simply not true… I run full condi with p/d d/p and before I engage a fight I always stealth up with venoms, right off the bat I can get bleeds and torments stacked right up.

The normal Condi thief builds don’t, you know the ones used most commonly it’s use SB off set no stealth and D/D or P/D no stealth on demand unless slotting Blinding powder which is a Loss of Multiple condis depending on what it’s replacing, but none can achieve 20+ Stacks of Various Condis at most 15-20 poison and maybe 15 of bleeds if you can Immob someone long enough or they potato like 90% people did vs the old Ghost Thief and again those aren’t oneshots…..and have ample time for reaction especially if someone has 20k+ life like from dire as the Op says he uses.

With Anet confirming that WvW is getting its own set of legendary armor before the end of the expansion, it raises a few questions. How will it be implemented is one of the main concerns and how long until the next expansion, we talking a year here? Many thought raiding legendary armor was going to be released with the expansion and that took a year and a half to finish. Regardless legendary armor in WvW is certainly needed.

Chaba obviously has missed the garrison fights before and in the seasons with completely invisible zergs and a never ending skill lag that extended from one garrison into all borderlands.* And nope the numbers weren’t much different than today, you just had all maps queued.*

Uhmm did you read that before hitting reply? If the Numbers weren’t different but all maps are queued that means there was more players…… and now some servers have a hard time even queuing one map when others can queue multiple which means there are still less people….

I think the op is asking the wrong question. Thief really isn’t a issue, but evade having no hard counter can be.

Evades have Hard counters…. look at any ward style affect, quite a few classes have them, and let’s not forget the past couple patches Thief evades have been nerfed…and your line of thinking can be applied to invulns, which they don’t have any hardcounters and more classes have access to invulns and invuln style affects on top of having Evade skills…

Invulnerabilities have hefty cooldowns, so its balanced by that. Let me be more specific, its skills that evade and do damage at once. Wards…you mean pulsing style skills right? Then yes, sort of. They can still be evaded through, so its not a hard counter. There are no skills in game that can not be evaded. Which is my point. There are no hard counters.

No they aren’t pulsing style I mean wards as in any effect that stops a player from moving through an area, Wall of Terror doesn’t pulse, line of warding doesn’t pulse, Dragons Maw doesn’t pulse, Hunters Ward doesn’t pulse, sanctuary doesn’t pulse, ring of warding doesn’t pulse, unsteady ground doesn’t pulse……… and none of those skills can be evaded through.

and a CD isn’t a hardcounters to Invulnerability…….. and a few of invulns /pseudo invulns allow you to attack while being invulnerable.

The best wvw update realty the only wvw update they need to do is to split wvw from pve in balancing that along would save wvw. Truth be told raids are not going to last that well after HoT any way and most balancing up to this point wvw had to deal with was due to raids. So at a point Anet going to be balancing pve from an effect dead game type.

Dead gamemode? It’s far surpassed their expectations of participation and is thriving even now..

I see it as being fine since the cursor built in game has a tendency to disappear completely or glitch out and the accuracy portion is a stretch since it doesn’t increase your hand eye coordination or automatically acquire placement or in crease your accuracy of placing he cursor, it just allows the cursor to be visible in a different colour

But a counter does exist, Aza said no counter exists for Evades, which is a lie. And yes the majority are on Guardian/DH, but Necro has one, Ele has some, Engie has one, so to say it with me there are counters to Evades in this game.

Are people really complaining about a class that brings absolutley nothing to the table besides dps that does slightly better Dps while almost every other class brings support/Utility and class specific buffs to the raid increasing the overall performance of the raid while doing only slightly less dps?

Wow that’s funny. And let’s not forget the fact that quite a few bosses it is actually pretty bad to bring a Condi Thief even into the raid while there are the complete staple classes needed in every single boss fight………

HoT made CC horrible in both competitive modes. I’m really surprised that the balance team has failed to correct these errors. It is the balance team which is responsible for the horrible gameplay of one player being unable to act while another whittles them down. That’s the worst kind of gameplay possible, but never seems to be addressed.

I main Ele, and when a thief decides he’s going after me, it’s game over, even when I try to tank my ele build. They disappear and pop up next to me and it’s normally over in two seconds before I have time to put in a proper response.

If I manage a dodge or a counter in time, they just go invisible again and I barely have time to get my health back up before they pop up right next to me again and finish the job. The dps for the thief is too high to justify how evasive it is, IMO. When I’m running small parties the thief is usually on top with DPS, and I just top with squishiness and no match in evasiveness or dps compared to them to show for it.

I understand that thief is squishy as well, but the normal amount of evasiveness severely overcompensates for it.

Run support or Celestial and not Mara/zerker .lif you don’t want to be squishy or run a mix of Celestial and Marauder, taking the Squishiest class both HP wise and armor wise and using glass stats is going to give you a bad time…. every class has a preferred style of play. Can’t blame that on other classes especially when built right the Ele is quite Burst and tacky at the same time (see Celestial/Marauder mix). And let’s not forget all the get out of jail frees Ele can pack into a build or the Sustain they can pack in on top of those.

Are we getting new content for this mode?

And dps =\= damage per skill, Greatswords and LBs have higher Damaging skills but since they are large have lower attack speeds( you know similar to reality) and then there are factors like Greatswords Cleaving more players 3 vs 2, then whatever bonus effects like some GS attacks apply Vulnerability which increase the damage being dealt and so on…..

And on the two classes that use Shortbow, one doesn’t do any damage really and the other the Longbow Does considerably more actual damage…

Ur asking for trouble m8. No matter what you run it doesn’t justify toxic comments.

Because he’s somehow reached a block list limit that none of us even knew existed, and him running a cheesy tell build could explain that and all of the gate whispers he’s getting.

For most people this isn’t a problem.

Oh I knew it had a limit, it’s a pretty high limit but still. It also crashes your game when you check it every now and then when you reach said limit. I know this as I have a friend who blocks anyone who types in French, needless to say when mega servers hit he reached the limit pretty fast.

Why French? Lol that is awesome by the way, let me guess on EU?

Let me repeat myself: you’re asking for content created with the intent to be challenging, to get dumbed down to the point of being doable by pressing “1” with a random nonsense comp. It would be quite a big effort to do so and the end result would be ultimately disappointing, as you’d be missing the whole point of it. So you’d still be complaining. I see literally zero reasons to support your demand.

Beacause getting rewards by pressing one is all that some people want they don’t care if the content wasn’t made for them or if it is supposed to be challenging, all they want are the rewards. It’s sad but that how some people are. And they will use excuse like, but the lore needs to be accessible but when you say fine have a story mode with no rewards they start saying that they need rewards as well as story.

I hardly ever receive Salty whispers from killing players, but last night I received a funny whisper from an enemy when I was running from a Zerg, I stole to them to get more distance between me and the Zerg, they were quick to whisper that I stole their goods, which devolved into some great convos through the night as we bother roamed, each randomly sneaking up on the other bursting each other then disengaging to let them recover

It’s a glitch mainly on your computer it randomly plagues the game all of the Daredevil dodges are subject to the animation bug not rendering properly, 1.5 years and still going strong

I have never had that issue and if you are using best performance you may not see the Animation due to your graphics being set to potato

You can work around DH. Thief rotates faster than DH which means that the DH can’t pick the fight. The DH can only aggress the thief when the thief lets the DH.

Also a thief has no issue getting a +1 on DH. DH’s low base HP makes them vulnerable to spikes, and thieves are masters of the spike. Thieves just can’t 1v1 DH because it takes too long.

Again if a DH decides to bunker a point which is all to prevalent in today’s ranked world then the Thief can’t outrotate that one DH, and is completely shutout from it and again the longer the fight goes the more likely that’s DH will get +1ed. Or do you not know what a bunker does….

this is no longer the game of 5v5 actual teams That communicate and rotate at best if you have one other person with you you can have some semblance of Rotation I know this too be true all the way through platinum.

So again any bunker Hard counters a thief since they can’t Decap the point (In a reasonable amount of time) which is their main role. DH just has all the Tools to do it better than any other class, point pressure AoE, lots of Sustain, lots of damage mitigation, contro, and now baked in reveal….

1 DH doesn’t stop a thief from doing their job. It’s a hindrance yes, but it’s not going to shut the thief down.
Obviously a team of all DH and engi will stop a thief, but that’s a unrealistic situation, and that all DH team will get dunked on by the other 4 guys on the thieves team. (assuming those 4 are running a balanced comp)

When I say hardcounter I’m thinking of power rev vs condi Mesmer, where the presence of 1 condi Mesmer completely deletes that power rev off the face of the map.

You said that only power Mesmer is countered by thief. “Only” implies exclusivity, as in no other build in the game other than power Mesmer is countered by thief.

The necro vs thief thing irks me because Arenanet keeps getting rid of necros ability to coexist with thieves.
We used to be able to coexist with thieves, because used to be conquest involved large teamfights with small fights on the offnode. In those days a necro could coexist with thieves because the necro could “hide” in the teamfight. However arenanet has spent the last year pushing the game away from teamfights towards rolling 1v1s and 2v2s, thus deprecating necro to the extreme while making thieves stronger and stronger.

No I stated only as in only Power Mesmer out of the OPs concern in regard to Thief hardcountering all of Mesmer, nothing more nothing less, since it doesn’t pertain to the thread if Thief Hard counters one other class, I was making my answer only in the full context of this thread which is what Hard counters a thief which is DH.

they can pressure a node so a Thief cannot deal with it inside its main Roles of Decap, if a DH is bunkering a node that needs recapped the Thief is hard countered since the DH has all the tools to pressure the thief away completely, it has been that way for a very very long time. If a thie can’t recap due to a bunker the thief is countered, not a hard concept, if a thief tries to fight the bunker he risks getting +1ed since it will take too long to kill the bunkering DH.

The implication is this comparison, which you appear to concur with in your previous post:

  • Counter to thief (dragon hunter) has to build specifically.
    whereas:
  • Counter to necro (any thief) doesn’t have to build specifically.
    and:
  • Despite being hard counter to no other class (you state in your previous post), thief has no specific problems competing with any class.

DH doesn’t have to build specifically for Hard countering Thief bahahah that’s gold that pure gold, and no not every Thief build hard counters Necro, Condis Thieves dont, Sword Dagger Thieves don’t and neither do Staff thieves lol on D/P does one build, bahahaha and again before from this post was specifically what hardcounters Thief not what hardcounters Mesmer, nor Necro and it’s not what A topic of what’s Thief hardcounters. Any bunker class, specifically Guardian/DH. And it’s only power shatter Mesmer that is hardcountered by Thief, Condi shatter is on par with thief

Literally every necro build is hardcountered by thief. But it’s ok that you forgot because everyone forgets that necro exists.

Also modern bunker classes don’t hardcounter thief in conquest. Thief role dominance as the roamer/+1/decap is unhindered by bunkers. Bunkers certainly slow thieves down but they don’t shut thieves down.

The only time we had a real hardcounter to thieves was ole’ Power Revenant before the nerfs, because pre-nerf power rev was Thief 2.0

Thief won’t be countered as long as the roamer/decap is a required role for conquest.

All the Thieves movement skills on Weapons take over 1/3-1/2 of a Thief’s total initiative those ones don’t need an increase Initiative increases aren’t what are needed especially if they don’t make Preparedness baseline since everything is balanced on a 15 initiative pool not the 12 initiative pool, look at Infiltrator Arrow it costs 6, does no damage, doesn’t damage mitigate and is a limited range shadowstep( with plenty of bugs) whatsoever ever yet costs 1/2 base Thief initiative Pool and over 1/3 of the trained pool.

They just need to reign in alll the power creep lower all the numbers forms stats and the amoun of Boons and conditions generated per skill, this last portion is a way to mitigate the amount of lag that plagues this game especially in WvW

It was more of an offhand suggestion to deal what appears to be an overtuned ability to disengage from a fight and to try again.

I don’t know if it’s possible or even advisable, but I’d like to see thieves have no more escape/travel mobility warriors had a couple of years ago (about +33% what warriors have now), coupled with reduced escape if the thief truly engages in a fight.

Meaning, I like the idea of thieves being able to jump in and get out when things are either really hot (like a group fight, lots of aoe, etc) or if the approach into the fight fails, but still having to commit to a fight to get the win at the expense of being able to escape if they’re outplayed.

In other words, still the highest mobility in the game (just not in another league), the same great control over engagement that they have now, but increased risk if committing to a fight. I honestly don’t know how to do that, but something feels off to me on that front these days.

That said, the issue may be solved just by pushing though the pvp nerfs, as you suggested.

The thing is Thieves aren’t in a whole other league on mobility, if IA gets nerfed again or as some mesmers want remove IA all together would make Thief have worse mobility than most other classes, IA has been nerfed before when it was a whole other league at being 1200 range. Players just don’t like the fact that a Thief can leave easier at the sacrifice of Passive Defenses and being able to stick to fights longer, it can be frustrating but so is landing a perfect burst to just have the player go passively invuln and healt o full right after it happens, there is a lot of frustrating things in game and hopefully Anet realizes this and tones them down using the PvP changes game wide and re-evaluate

Agreed but at the same time I would not consider these added mitigation abilities as a bad thing. Too many claim it means less skill. I do not entirely agree with that. Risk is being confused with skill. It sort of like saying betting on a 100 to 1 longshot to win the kentucky derby demonstrates more skill than the person who bet on the 5-4 favorite when that 100 longshot wins.

They are certainly overtuned specs across the board but it hardly as bad as those dwelling on pre-hot suggest.

Oh, I totally agree that more defense isn’t a bad thing for the class, and for the game, frankly. But I tend to prefer risk balanced with reward, and it seems to me that a few small changes could help bring that in line again for thief in small scale fights. In large scale, I have no easy answers, but thief could stand for a buff there.

I generally agree with Sly’s position on this, that some of the pvp nerfs should be pushed to wvw (which is where I spend most of my time). Maybe some additional increases to the initiative costs of some of the movement skills too.

The mechanics of thieves seem pretty good to me right now, and in many ways better than they ever have been. I’d hate to see those mechanics get nailed because, well, it feels bad, man.
