I’ve decided to start WvWing using my Ranger. I’ve been on the receiving end of some pretty impressing long range attacks, so I wanted to try it out. Aside from a Glass Cannon build, what pet combo works best for WvW?
I don’t play Ranger often, so forgive me for such a noob question.
If Anet were to ever enable Open World PvP, threads like this would create hit lists. This is very similar to when people would ruin Orr farms by killing champs when they weren’t supposed to.

That’s pretty bold of you to come out and admit, mate. While Anet can do anything about it, it’s pretty bad form for a small guild to ruin the game for an entire map.
The way I believe it works is that even if you paid for the account, the moment you give it to someone else, and they register it, it’s theirs. But regardless, the following is what breaks the TOS:
The point is to earn your way into the dungeon when it’s locked, or wait for someone else to do it. I admit I will camp CoF until someone else does all the work.
This is not a hack It’s simply someone leveling up. Last week, I was down to my last 5% Downed HP, and a tagged Defender got stomped, resulting in enough XP to pick me up to full health. The level up is a complete reset of your character.
Side note – This is the reason why we hate “Rally Bot” uplevels in WvW.

Yes, that confused me as well. I’m not sure what proof the OP has of such things, as I have observed the opposite to be true (i.e. Silverwastes and Dry Top chests, PvP reward tracks, ascended material recyclers, &c.).
And not to mention a wider range of exotics and an increased chance for precursors from the forge. It’s now easier than ever to get items, even rare ones.
I believe he meant their nerfs to farming.
What nerfs to farming? I can still make gold, I can still craft, I can still farm, I can still do the same things I’ve done before they altered events to reduce their abuse.
By “nerfs”, I think he’s referring to areas where there were unintentionally fast spawn rates. Sorta like the Lost Bandit Chest farm in one SW area that had WAY too many
chests.
To me it looks like it might be a fun profession to play with the potential to really hinge on player skill.
But people let themselves be wowed far to easily.

How many people can throw a two-handed War Hammer? In real life, you gotta be pretty OP to be able to do something like that.
By openly admitting to breaking the TOS, I think you put your account at risk for termination. The display name clearly shows it was for your ex, but now you’re using it. That means you’re using an account that’s “not yours”.
From the looks of the skill bar, there’s definitely room to change Heal, Utility, and Elite skills. Of course, things can change up until release date (I’m looking at you Cantha District in DR). Just from looking at this pic, customization for advanced players should be juicy. Then it comes down to the equip you’ll use. PTV to make up for the lower HP pool is what I’m guessing most will go for. Rune sets will be determined if you wanna hyper focus melee or crowd control.
So I needed one more gas bladder. Yipee, now we got the gas bladder extractors. Well, apparently they’re as good as the experimental ones, because I still got a “piece of gas bladder”. Why in the world did I spend more bandit crests on a specialized extractor?
You got one piece of two needed. Working as intended.
Thus the reason why I suspect you may have made a mistake with your “I GOT NOTHING” accusation. Maybe mistakes and misunderstands = most likely more mistakes and misunderstandings.
Well from what we’re seeing, they’re less versatile than ele’s and engineers already.
That’s not counting the fact that they’re energy-locked. Go play GW1 on a warrior main and see the fun you can get into in the +pips/-pips model.
Played GW1 for 8 years. Very familiar with the pips. It’s how you adapt, since each class combo had different play styles. Revenants will have a learning curve, but I’m positive they’ll have a major impact on each game type.
To be honest, if you’re commanding a WvW zerg without using Voice Comms, you might be playing on the wrong server. This is because you’ll always be at a disadvantage against coordinated zergs.
Their downfall in competitive play is you know almost instantly their entire build by looking at their buff bar (displays current legend being invoked) and looking at their non-switchable weapon.
These guys will have literally NO tricks up their sleeve.
That’s true. But while you can prepare to counter one Revanant’s Stance, if you go after a team of 5, each using a different weapon and Stance, you can’t prepare for them all. One could go ranged-Hammer, one would go CC Axe, one could go condi-Mace, etc. Heck, one possible Stance could be a Support based one. And all Heavy Armor too. That’s a lot of damage reduction.
The downfall I see is that their HP pool is only medium in size. The versatility of the Revenant makes it really appealing for tactical players. It’s not as OP as I once thought it was, since you can’t weapon swap. But that’s not to say that the mechanics so far scream “play me and play me often!”
The Hype Train is running along smoothly. But I was already on board as soon as I saw that_shaman’s post on Reddit.

Nah, you don’t need to prove anything to me. I already know. All of us who have the full armor set went through the same things: Kill boss, get part, complete collection. I haven’t heard a single instance, outside of yours, that a part didn’t drop. Yes there is a chance that you might have run into a bug. But there’s also the chance that you didn’t have the proper extractor.
If you have no proof of one, then it’s logical the other happened. It’s also entirely possible that neither happened, and you were running a dungeon instead.
Or, more likely, you didn’t manage to read properly everything I posted. Fairly obvious, don’t you think?

If I wouldn’t have clicked my extractor, it would still be in my inventory. It isn’t.
If I would have bought the wrong one, there would still be an extra piece of Modrem organ in my inventory. There isn’t.
If I would have killed the wrong boss type – which, of course, can happen, because even if you aim for the Thrasher and defend the Blue for the whole length of the event then enter the breach, it might not be the Thrasher the one you’re seeing, and all that morning coffee you had can give you hallucinations – but, let me not digress, IF I would have killed the wrong boss, there still would be an extra piece in my inventory. there isn’t.

I don’t need to read everything, because it comes down to a misunderstanding about how RNG works, and when MF comes into play.
Going on, I have yet to see any evidence that proves that you had the correct extractor buff on. For all we know, you forgot to buy one, like many of us tend to do if we’re rushing. That would explain why it’s not there in your bank. Or, you deleted it before taking a screen cap after realizing you forgot to click it.
Please post a video of your game play so we can pinpoint where you went wrong. It would also help to determine if there was some type of bug.
Side note – it’s more fun to run the basic experimental extractors, and leave the drops to RNG. If feels a lot better when you get the part you need.
With the release of new details about the Revenant’s abilities, it just solidifies just how awesome this class will be. It’s a good thing they can’t weapon swap, because that would have been too Overpowered. The set weapon, plus ability to swap out Legendary Stances, makes the Revenant the go-to class for all players. Strong options with melee and ranged attacks, blocks, crowd controls, conditions, and more!
Now here’s my concern.
*Because the Revenant is so good, that means a lot of players might be making this their new main in PvE. The possible Meta change could also mean too many Revenants in SPvP and WvW. In order to prevent this, other classes might need some buffs to keep other professions relevant. Perhaps this is where Specializations come in?
*Now if the strength of the Revenant is too much, options would be to either buff other classes… or nerf down Revenants. If it’s the former, and all other classes are buffed, that would lead Anet down the slippery slope of Power Creep.
It’s funny how OP excepts good drops with high MF, when RNG means Random Number Generator, and not Guaranteed Number Generator.
Having 500%, 600%, 1000% MF just means you have a better chance at good drops. But it can still mean that if you opened 100 Lost Bandit Chests, you’ll only get 1 Rare.
Now speaking on your missing part, it’s highly likely you forgot to click on the specific extractor, bought the wrong one, or killed the wrong boss type.

Yeah, I underestimated the power of trolls derailing my thread. As for the other players I listed, mind you their debate stances were in my side. They were just more detailed in their arguments. I don’t think I would have anything to argue against them, but if I did, it would be a good time.
Edit – On a related note, why are some into older characters, yet against younger? One could claim the internet rule on that too.
Credit goes to Sir Marmatt for doing this in the wake of everything. I can honestly say I wouldn’t volunteer for this job, since it does require a lot of time to organize our thoughts. Hope the Devs give the specialists some Gems for their time.
I think it would just splendid if I saw a grandpa Warrior with a cane, that switches to Greatsword stance in combat. Think Yoda in Episode 3. I would also feel the same if I saw a young boy wielding a sword, riding a lion mount in LA. Or a bunch of teenage characters riding the flying broom while carrying stick wands.
I’ll agree that it would be wonderful if we could have that sort of diversity, but let’s face it: some of that would require a lot of codes and flags to make it work the way you describe, and there are better things to spend resources on. While they do have child models for all the playable races (that have a child mode, sorry sylvari), I think lots of people have given good reason why we shouldn’t go that young. Not every player has the discipline you or I do, and it just invites trouble. As I said, either hand wave the differences you want for your RPing, or move it to a non-visual media, because it’s just not going to happen here.

I think a majority are in favor of more options, but at the same time, want censorship. It’s understandable, esp. when you have so many players in this thread bringing up naughty thoughts. I don’t get nearly the same reaction when I started talking about a “grandpa Warrior” than when I asked for a “young Harry Potter wizard”. One sparked smiles and giggles, while the other brought forth nervous head turns and internet rules.

I’d want all of the above. RPing and PvEing. I was citing examples. RPing as the daughter of a Legendary Warrior, but looking like a short version of your magical mother breaks the lore of the character.

Again, there’s no problem with the system. If you wanted Laurels, then you should consider that before quitting or taking a long break from the game. Players who play daily, even if casually, get their time-gated rewards. Players who didn’t aren’t Entitled to catching up.
You not having problems with laurels is not a reason to defend this major flaw. Try to be more altruistic on this matter. Would you be concerned to see Anet removing time gates on Laurels now to help other players because you have loged in more or less casually to get them?
But to counter your point, there is no flaw. The fault is on the player who doesn’t log in to play and do the meta to get rewards. Now as for new players, are they Entitled to ways to short cut the time-gates to catch up? That’s a big nope.
Any changes to help a small minority punishes the majority. If you weren’t around for special event drops, you either have to buy them from the TP, or wait and pray they become available again. If you weren’t around for the Living Story, you need to pay 200 Gems per episode. And if you didn’t log in to mark off your daily Laurel reward, you just need to invest the same amount of time all of us did.
To put it simply, if I spent 365 days to get my Laurels, then you need to invest the same amount of time to get the same. Besides, Ascended gear isn’t mandatory. You can play this game well with Exotics alone.

Acceptable Breaks from Reality. A lot of the armors accentuate the female’s… curves, so the bust size just isn’t going to be adjusted down that far. You’ll just have to pretend your character is younger if you want that, or avoid that section of history, or… y’know, roleplay offline using your imagination.
The body type isn’t the problem. In fact, I love that I can make a skinny or chubby human, though I would like more body types. The face, on the other hand, can really break the immersion of what I’m trying to create. Everything screams adult, esp. when they start talking in cutscenes.
Another idea would be for more character voice options to actually make then sound younger. I would love for my character to sound like Pinkie Pie. Anet needs to hire Andrea Libman right away!
And of course, Anet can’t fix when players go to sleep, or wake up, or come home from work/school.
But of course ANet is responsible for the importance of each timeslice.

No no no no. Anet isn’t responsible for that. WvW is an ever fighting battle, 24/7. Primetime for me is sleep time for someone else. You can’t force a server to shut down WvW just because most of their players are NA. There’s no fairness in that. If players all want to play in T1 and T2, that’s their choice. Player based decisions do not equal bad Anet policy.
Going off your thoughts, perhaps Anet could label certain servers to be NA, Oceanic/SEA, EU, etc. They’ll still be open to anyone, but it could help steer newer players to select those servers over others? Then open free transfers for a week, and allow the players to self balance coverage population. That would be a good compromise.

I think we’re getting sidetracked here. Deep down, I’m sure we all agree that having more options would be a good thing, regardless if it’s for the younger or older looks. To each his/her own on what you do with said character.
