Well i was thinking more on a wvw scenario. altho the quickness would provide good dps that insta damage plus slow and might and consi boost seems a bit better. but maybe it would depend on group set up. FOr solo roaming i think trap wins tho.

For solo roaming Renewed Focus wins over both of them.

Remove stealth disruptor trap

The way stealth/invisibility works in most MMOs I’ve played is either you can’t be seen but you can’t move at all or you move at heavily reduced speed. Also at least some other classes have a way not just to dispel stealth/invis but to detect it as well.

For whatever reason GW2 didn’t bother with most of these restrictions/counters, relying instead on short durations, which imaginative players and subsequent game changes soon rendered ineffective as limiters.

Agreed, my previous MMO I played if my thief went invis, he moved at half base speed.

Worlds Worst Rev NA

I love my rev but I don’t play as much as I used to and my play time is irregular so I can’t play organized groups. For that reason my Rev is currently semi-retired from WvW. I play my War because I can login anytime and run around flipping camps solo. If I meet up with other roamers fine. Meet a zerg also fine. Come across a condi Mesmer or thief? Bring it on. No problem on a my war. (doesn’t mean I win but I also don’t get destroyed)

If I had a dedicated roaming group I would definitely play my Power Invo Rev because the damage is just insane.

Sigil choices GS, Mace/Shield WvW

Hi

Im currently running a GS Mace/Shield skullcrack build in WvW and wanted to ask you guys on sigil choices.

I use Leeching/Hydromancy on GS and Sigil of Draining on the Mace. However I know that Impact/Hydromancy on GS and Paralyzation on Mace is/has been used before.

My question is which set is best overall for WvW? I feel the set I use is most versatile since the Leeching will proc regardless if enemy is stunned and the draining is a great boost for sustain. The Para sigil is only good if you manage to setup the 100 blades perfectly and bear in mind the Skull Grinder F1 is only a 1 sec daze so +30% to that is barely anything. (does paralyzation sigil affect Dazes or only Stuns?) The para sigil is best when you use skull crack.

If you are able to perfectly land your skull crack (meaning don’t waste your F1 on Skull grinder) then maybe but I hate to be thinking “oh wait I don’t want to use my F1 now lets wait for berserk mode to wear off”

What are your thoughts?

What Jugglemonkey said is spot on. Rev isn’t great solo. But is strong in a small organized group and is very good in a zerg.

When solo I “Swap Legend Class” to Warrior and feel totally comfortable roaming solo.

Looking for input on 2 WvW Builds

I have an ascended set of marauder gear with Defender and another set with Durability. Honestly I love defender runes and have been using them literally when they were first released waaaaaaaay back but I truly feel that they are only better than Durability runes if you are roaming solo. As soon as you get into a small group even 2 or 3 people then durability runes begin to blow past defender runes. The boon share of protection/regen/resistance is just too good. Along with 175 toughness, 125 vitality and 20% boon duration.

Defender runes are not in pvp for whatever reason I dunno. (they were never in pvp to begin with) BUT durability was removed from pvp because a 5 man group all running durability gives 15 sec of protection/regen on 20 sec cooldown AND if one of your party is a rev giving facet of nature then you have 100% uptime on protection and regen. In WvW you have boon duration food also so the uptime is amazing.

I wouldn’t bother making a condi set with defender. Those runes work really well with power. You would want a condi rune set if playing condi.

Celestial hasn’t been available for ages. I used to use blast tag gyro instead of Slick Shoes especially after the nerf to slick shoes. But with the final salvo nerf I don’t bother with it anymore.

sigh…..extra lifeforce doesn’t make you stronger as in more dps but if you survive longer that effectively makes you “stronger”. Just ask scrappers. They don’t have the biggest dps but when their sustain was off the charts they could kill anyone because they could wear people down. The HP cushion that lifeforce gives you enables you to have enough time for your condis to kill the enemy.

And yes I know life force doesn’t reset and can be carried from fight to fight which is again why necro are targeted right at the start of the match to stop them from ever getting any life force.

And Adrenaline for warrior is used to burst (ok it helps with adrenal health) but a warrior is still tanky at start of a fight and most have headbutt which if they are not complete garbage they can land very early on in a fight and have instant adrenaline.

Rev start combat with 50% energy so no problem there.

Astral force is easy to generate for druids especially with the way dolyak runes are broken for druids.

Im sorry but Necro is the only class in the game that gets stronger the longer it lasts in fights which is WHY it gets focused early. To kill a DH is just as hard at start of fight as it is later in the fight. Same as Ele or Mesmer etc. Necro is the class that is easiest to kill early on rather than later on so of course it will get focused first. Its just simple efficiency. Kill something that’s easier to kill earlier in the fight.

I think all the GS skills should get CD reduction. Not sure about movement changes to WW. I mean I play warrior also and I would love to move AT ALL while doing hundred blades. The GS4 symbol should do something other than retaliation yes.

But honestly if they reduced the CD by 20% (like we used to get when we used the trait 2 hand master) then GS would be more useful right now id rather take LB or scepter/shield when paired with sword/focus.

I honestly dread when I have a necro on my team and rejoice when I see one on enemy team. Its funny

LOL Necro are primary target because if you leave them alone they are deadly from range. If you let them build lifeforce they will be harder to kill. So kill them early and you remove a potentially dangerous player who will be harder to kill later on.

almost every class is good when stacked which is why class stacking should not be allowed in ranked. Ive seen a 3 Thief team beat an enemy team that had 2 DH on it. The 3 thieves would move together and zerg spike burst anyone they came across.

Revenant and Solo Roaming

Rev isn’t a great solo roamer for numerous reasons. For starters their biggest weaknesses are thieves and condi builds which both dominate the roaming scene. This is augmented by condi builds having access to dire and trailblazer stats as well as thieves not needing to worry about capture points at all.

Additionally Rev disengage is pretty poor unless you are fortunate to find some mobs in the direction you need to go. Even then the disengage is no where near the level of stealth heavy builds. So while you can still roam on Rev it is best to duo with something that can help you cover your weaknesses such as an auramancer.

Revenant and Solo Roaming

HI, How many of you roam solo on your power rev these days? I love my Rev in sPvP and PVE but with the abundance of thieves in WvW I find solo roaming on Rev a bit difficult. I end up switching to my Power War or DH. Rev is totally fine in a small group or zerg setting, In small group I get the back up of a druid or ele or even a DH.

Any tips or should I just stick to my War/DH for solo roam?

I only play this game for fun. I have very little free time (working full time 50+ hours per week). My play time varies. If I start to get bored I drop down to playing only on weekends a couple hours. When its fun its almost daily an hour or 2 per day.

Only grinding I ever consider doing is when I need mats like Aurillium or Crystalline Ore. Even then the events are relatively fun (mindless pew pew is fine now and then). Map Completion? No Thanks!!!

I stopped WvW for almost a year because I got bored with it and preferred pvp. I came back to wvw only a few weeks ago.

I know a fair number of players who are only playing this game for fun . Not for grinding not for legendaries not for Shiny PvP wings. But then again I guess they are my friends because we have the same mindset.

WvW guilds that ask for 100% rep AND must join raids AND must use their builds and even play the class they want? (I know someone who felt compelled to run a class he doesn’t like just to get accepted into guild) LOL they can take a running jump off a high cliff. I play the class I want and the build I want. Roaming and joining pug zergs now and then.

So yeah there are players out there that play for fun.

I find it changes the way I play wvw – for the short time of 8-10 hours I do this I am solely focused on participation and reward point ticks – often disregarding objectives, enemy players and so on entirely. Once I have my participation up I am simply tagging sentries to keep it up and waypointing to a safe zone to afk for 10 minutes.

For the record this is from the perspective of someone who loves pvp and wvw, fighting other players, and finds pve combat a boring chore.

If you really loved WvW and fighting players then your behavior would not change as you described above. You would go about doing what you always do and the reward track would eventually get done.

You see the problem is legendary weapons require a grind mindset – otherwise you will never get them done.

GoB is nothing compared to the insane pve grind necessary.

But when I’m in pve grinding mindset I tend to play badly because it’s so repetitive and reward driven, hence I stay out of wvw until this grind is done and I can return and enjoy.

I have only ever made one legendary and I will be honest I didn’t enjoy the process – but I am happy to have the skin and weapon. I’m only making a second because I really like the skin a lot – and it happens to be a HoT legendary so even more grind…

Unfortuntalely I am a kind of player that fixates until something is complete – so I tend to play another game at the same time as making something like a legendary, because during this time GW2 is not fun for me.

I even am at the extent of only logging in for log in rewards, quick daily run and log out.

Therefore getting something like the GoB within this process is not simply playing wvw normally for me – because my mind is preoccupied with the huge checklist of stuff for a legendary. Once it is done then I relax and play as normal.

Ok I understand. To be fair I hate grinding with a passion also which is why I will never do Map Completion. I play this game for fun and doing hearts/vistas/poi in every corner of Tyria isn’t my idea of fun. I will inconvenience myself a little bit like when I need crystalline ore in Dragon Stand or Aurillium for my Durability runes but that’s as far as it goes.

Please remove Gift of Battle from the WVW reward track. The PVE folks are not liking it their as they just don’t want to do WVW events or PVP. Please find a way so that it can be universal across all the boards. In this manner PVP, WVW and PVE can all achieve this award to create legendaries, etc.

If they give WvW players a way to get Gift of Exploration through WvW-only sure, why not?

I am a roamer and I moved to BG from T4 server the first day it opened. I love it. Way more fights for me. Sure the Q on reset nights for EB can be crazy but I was able to get on other maps no problem and find fights.

Threat metter is imo a lil out of date. quite surr the first time i saw it was during retri meta, and some classes have been nerfed
Invo rev wins against power guards, condi revs, has a fair shot against warrs if u can negate f1s, loses against thief, wins power scrapper and druid, loses against mesms, wins against eles, and proly loses against condi necs, but nec builds are still being tested, so im not sure about this one

When I played condi rev (Glint/Mallyx) I beat most power invo revs I met in solo q. With the Retri nerf (dodge nerf) its probably a lot harder now.

I don’t think the changes affect this matchup much at all. Typically condi Rev shouldn’t be getting hit by any hard cc’s other than sotm which will be interrupted by eye for an eye most of the time any way. Naturalistic resonance nerf hurts malyx Rev resistance uptime which means basically nothing against power Rev.

You’re right that it doesn’t change much against power rev. I was sidetracking and thinking that it nerfed the glint/mallyx build in general so I don’t run it any more.

ANET: Class Stacking for Season 5?

I think some of the issues that class stacking brings will be mitigated by the new solo/duo q system. For example you cant form a team of 4 DH or 4 Minion Necros (like I came across last week). Sure you can switch into those classes but the communication will be less.

Upcoming Ranked Arena Map Rotation Changes

Literally the best way to win on stronghold is to do nothing but heal the first 5 doorbreakers, kill the guards, make it to the lord room and kill the lord, ignoring any form of PvP. Match is over in 3 minutes and you do nothing but heal and kill NPCs.

It’s not a moba nor GW1 GvG, it’s an abomination.

Since the complaints of solo/duo vs premades has been addressed for Season 5, will the other major issue in PvP (Class Stacking) also be looked at?

The fact that Class Stacking is not allowed in ESL games shows that ANET knows stacking is an issue. Its definitely an issue in ranked play and the reason why some classes (most actually) are better when stacked vs when alone.

Most common suggestion is to not allow more than 2 of a particular class.

Any hint would be greatly appreciated.

Too many quitters

Probably those that wanted coliseum and are disappointed that not everyone wants to play that map for the millionth time.

^ This, I admit when I needed just a few more wins to get my coliseum achievement I used to get annoyed when another map was chosen. However I never AFK’ed. I would just switch to another class that I was planning to learn on and just chill/play that match.

I will agree that ive seen a lot more people DC or AFK in the first couple min. More so than usual.

You literally get stability on dodge.

I need to point out that to get that stability you must evade something first. Which means you cannot use a dodge to get stability in order to avoid a specific skill. It’s completely unreliable and can never be used to avoid the hit you actually want.

Take Permeating Wrath in Virtues and don’t use your F1 and your traps will pretty much AOE burn people quite often. Especially procession of blades trap.

Yep, I think this was their intention in terms of making DH condi friendly. It still would have been nice to have a trap that straight up applied burns. I was in favor of Dragon’s Maw being that trap since you know, dragons and fire-breathing and all.

if you dont have stab vs a thief you will be cc to death, ret is better than invo, no point breaking a stun just to be stunned again, normally power revs use both invo+retribution, while condi rev uses retribution+resistant boon, but with the nerf to retribution both classes have taken a hit.

As a power rev, I can say that I don’t think I could play without Devastation… 0.o

Take Permeating Wrath in Virtues and don’t use your F1 and your traps will pretty much AOE burn people quite often. Especially procession of blades trap.

I would swap the Cavalier accessories for Valkyrie because that 12K HP is scary. You don’t need all that toughness and def could use more Vitality. Plus you have way too much ferocity and not enough precision even with Fury. 231% crit damage with only 26% base crit doesn’t seem efficient to me.

I have pretty good fury uptime (rage rune) and i get 10% crit chance against burning enemies and 15% crit chance with a one handed weapon so without fury i still have about 50% and the toughness gives me basically 20% ferocity and with all the blocking i hadnt issues so far even with so low health, i tweak it when i reach tangled depths with this char.

That’s not the build you linked. The 10% against burning and 15% for one handed weapons is from the RADIANCE line. Your build link does not have radiance.

The only time I have died to retaliation was during the days I used to use Procession of Blades and someone gave the team Retal. I took 30 retal hits real quick and I was already low. When I play Scrapper I give myself and team retal when fighting DH. It was a nice dps boost. I wouldn’t spec specifically for it.
