The counter to DH is the buff to Call of the Wild making pets unblockable. Well played Power ranger can shred DH now and theres nothing he can do about it. IM relatively lazy and just take the Fractal meta build with slight tweaks. Staff Sword/shield. Switching the Staff for hammer sometimes.

The counter to dh is power dps. Anything that is unblockable is a huge advantage. If it’s an attack that is both cc and burst dps that is also an advantage if it pierces blocks. In that regard, a power rev and power warrior have better chances vs a dh.
Now that Druid heals were nerfed and Herald stability was throw out the window I’m feeling unstoppable playing power DH again. This patch buffs was much needed, maybe DH will be even competitive in the Pro League this time ^^.

If they don’t address class switching during ready up time then anything they do with the Match Maker to prevent switching will be meaningless since you Q on a class that you feel not many people want to play (for example the current most Underpowered class) and then simply switch after.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
This raises questions:
So, if anti-class stacking were to be implemented (i.e. a given team can only have 1 of each profession[elite spec considered]), how would you picture that mechanically being done?
Like, for example, would there be a pre-match selection where everyone chooses what character they want, and if someone chooses a character that is a Dragonhunter, then all the characters that are Dragonhunter grey-out for everyone else?
What would happen if someone only had 1-4 characters, and all their professions were chosen before they could make a choice? Would the system auto-give them a temp-character with a template build?
Would this make it so people are forced to play on professions they are not comfortable with?
I mean, the premise of no class stacking is nice, but implementing that mechanically is another story.
Simplest way would be that you Q with the class you want and the matchmaker will try and form teams with no class stacking (although I think for ranked they really should allow max of 2 of the same class and only 1 double so you can have 2DH but not 2Dh and 2Rev in a team. Then during the pre match ready up phase prevent anyone from switching to class that has already one of in the team.

What? Was the vote really about having solo/duo queue only? I voted yes but wouldn’t have done so in that case.
Yes, apparently a lot of people simply do not read instructions even when it is clearly spelled out.
Is the original text of the poll still available? Of course it can be my fault, but I read it as “Do you want a solo/duo only queue?” instead of “Do you want a solo/duo queue only?” Could also be a bad translation as I voted over here in Germany.
I don’t have access to the orginal text but this is what Josh wrote in a post. I BOLDED the relevant parts.
Hi all,
I’d like to take a moment to address some of the concerns posted since last Friday regarding the possibility of solo/duo queue.
The poll we’ll be running this week will simply ask if we should trial a solo/duo queue system during season 5. Assuming the poll passes and Season 5 is solo/duo ONLY, we’ll monitor feedback throughout the season and then run another poll at the end of S5 to ask folks if they’d like to see the change become permanent.
“But Josh, what about people that like to queue as premades, do guild missions, etc?” An overwhelming majority of players already play as solo/duo in leagues, but that doesn’t mean we’re not thinking about the groups and the guilds. That said, unranked arena will continue to accommodate roster sizes of up to 5. Guild missions will still be able to be completed in unranked arena. Assuming the post-season 5 permanence poll passes, we’ll evaluate the need for another environment where teams can compete (based on your feedback).
Hopefully that answers some of your questions!
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
I can live with the change to ED, what makes me sad is the change to stability. Totally nerfing a trait in a line that was barely used by power revs but destroying condi rev builds.

Wow, so now we can’t play with out friends in a competitive environment? What the kitten is happening with this game? It’s become so casual…
LOL if you thought ranked was competitive for teams. SMH
The 20% who voted no are probably the ones who enjoyed pug stomping with their premades.
premades on average lost half of all their games.
hows that pug stomping? You have official stats to back this up?
Because from my personal experiences whenever I was the solo guy put in the same team as a 4 man premade I won way over 70% of the time. When I was in a full solo or duo team vs a 4man enemy team I lost most of the time. That’s why I voted yes because in my personal data set I was at an advantage when I was in the premade team and a disadvantage when I was not. (even when playing solo)
In absence of clear unbiased data that’s all I can go with.
sorry i cant provide the source. but many others will agree and might have it. anet has said previously that premades only win around half their games. it was 48% or 52% i cant remember.
That 50% statistic was for a FULL 5 man vs FULL solo q and that’s whythey implemented a rule so a full 5 man team would never meet a full solo again to please the masses. However, that doesn’t stop 4,1 team facing a 1,1,1,1,1 team. ANET did not give out those statistics.
Until ANET provides data on how a 4,1 team does vs full solo or vs 2,1,1,1 teams we have only our own experiences to go by.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
We do not know ANETS plan for Season 5 other than the solo/duo q thing. They may still be working on class stacking issues. Who knows? Fingers crossed that they do.

thats the problem it should be a competitive enviroment for teams (it isnt now on that we agree)
but it should be… clearly
Yes and to be competitive there also needs to be a team Q just for 5 man premades.
Funny though when that happens all those people who say “why cant I play with some friends in a ranked q”, will suddenly not want to play with their friends anymore because then they will really get stomped by the truly competitive teams. That’s when you will get proper teams being formed and well thought out class comps. The “Play with friends 5 man premades will all of a sudden be found in unranked”

Thanks I was told to burst pets in the past but last season rangers would just swap pets whenever it got low HP so was really hard to take down that pet. So the general advice was forget pet and go for ranger.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
I made a base power ranger last night to test with LB Sw/WH and holy sh8t, perma fury, regen, swiftness, 25 might stacks and even protection. And now unblockable pet damage. It looks good. I gotta figure out how to fight this when im on my DH. Any tips would be appreciated because that burst damage being unblockable is just intense.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
CoTW is crazy change. Unblockable pets now. My guildies who play rangers are loving it and destroying people as power based rangers. I may give it a try next season.
True story. I’ve dropped druid for mm and took seekers amulet in PvP and incorporated some commanders stats in wvw and I love base ranger again. Kinda weak to Condi builds but I’ve just been stuffing guards, wars, and revs in 1v1s it’s fantastic.
Yes they dropped druid and are playing core ranger and they are having easy time killing Revs/wars/DH. As you said most players don’t know yet that pets are unblockable and go into shield 5 or rev block or DH shelter/Shield of Courage.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
Yes nothing is funnier when a guard thinks he’s safe in shelter and BOOM bet eats em. People don’t realize how kitten of a buff we got.
Yes we do realize how good that buff is (rev/Dh player here)
Will be seeing a lot more power rangers next season me thinks.

100% agree. I hardly saw any condi revs in pvp. Just the occasional one (I do play it sometimes myself). Power revs very rarely if ever used Retri line and they are the most abundant. Nerfing a trait that is used by a minority of Revs in pvp seems like a very very strange decision.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "

instead you say “it blocked the nerf”wat xD
did you even read 1 sentence of the DH patch notes??
Yeah apparently "reading the patch notes’ is too much effort for some people. They probably had the post ready to submit the day before the patch cos you know QQ and all, all day errry day.

Skill splitting is fine but I tend to agree with OP that the diff shouldn’t be too crazy. Should be more like CD changes, damage changes, heal coefficients , boon durations etc.
I like also that some changes are ported into WvW as well.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
Limiting one class per team would make the classes which are kinda overpower not have that much of an impact on the game.
A teams effort would make that class be easy to handle.
Also as a solo player I feel kinda forced to player professing like the ranger seeing how I would have a bigger impact on my team instead of a necro for example.
Finally this would add much more diversity to every single match instead of it being mostly made of op classes
+1
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
lol wut? hahahahahaha
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
I would 100% support 2 separate queues. A solo/duo queue and a 5man team queue.
Anyone who says they should be mixed is just a person who likes to make a premade and stomp pug solos.
As Helseth said anyone who is serious about playing team q cannot possibly enjoy the current ranked setup. How can you tell if you are a good team if you are hardly ever matched up against other full teams? The true way to know if you are a good team is to constantly fight other full teams and in that way a full 5 man team q for ranked should be allowed. Then you know you will up against another premade possibly also on voice comms and with more thoughtful class composition. Isnt that what people want in a proper team challenge? Or do you want be the premade with voice comms and proper class comp and just abuse solo queuers?
And for the vast majority of PvPers (as ANET said) that play solo/duo, you can have the solo/duo q. Those players don’t care or don’t have time to setup a full team. Maybe like me they have just an hour or so to play when they login and those times may not be consistent so they want to jump in and play a few matches.
Before you say “play unranked” I would if they make a solo/duo for unranked.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
The poll is a joke.
Players are crying for SOLOQ the day they DELETE IT.
Removing it was bad.
Removing TEAM Q is bad.
But Anet can’t find proper solution other than DELETE THIS or THAT.
That’s fine. It DELETE my seriousness about this game.
My prediction in Season 12, they will DELETE the PVP TEAM.
wow, we will make it to season 12?
Sure, the pvp population will be a grand total of 9 players with the q never popping.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
It doesn’t. When people go to character select when they’re already in a match, they should get an error message when they try to load their DH telling them that their party has reached the max limit on that class, assuming they already have 2. People should still be able to switch though, preventing switches just reduces the already limited strategic aspect of Conquest.
OK that I totally agree with.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
I think limiting ranked to two of each profession max, but still allowing class swap before the match starts would solve most of the issues with class stacking.
How would that solve the problem? Say DH is the most used class right now and the MM doesn’t want to stack DH. So you Q as a Thief. Then swap to DH once map loads. You end up with a team of 3 DH again.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
Another thing that baffles me when I read people writing that personal skill is reflected via soloQ and not in a premade!! How is that logical from any sense?
I will form a premade with friends who are on the same skill set for PvP and play PvE with those who are better in that version of game etc. 5 player premade vs 5 player premade both using voice communication is the ideal setup for a Ranked PvP system!!
People will coordinate and compete at the best way possible and a player would retain his/her position in team if he/she is skilled enough for the same. This is how it should be actually.
Infact SoloQ for testing your individual skills should be limited to HotJoin and Unranked
The reason why soloq reflects personal skill better is because we already know if you form a 5 man premade with 4 diamond ranked players and 1 emerald ranked player on voice comms and play vs random pugs consisting of duo and maybe trios. Then you have a better than 50% chance of winning your matches . The end result is that the emerald player gets “carried” to a division that he probably shouldn’t be in.
5 man premade vs 5 man premade I agree with you but that’s not what people have been complaining about.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
So match making has its problems so instead of trying to fix it with proper class specific MMR and leaderboards and no class switching or stacking etc you want to throw it out completely? I see. ok.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
I think you mean the third hit in the auto-attack combo.
The mace has been buffed several times in a row now. It’s actually a pretty good weapon, it just can’t function properly in PvP because the mace only really fits in close-ranged tanky support builds, and the only tanky-ish healing amulet is Magi’s now (since Cleric’s got removed), which is probably about the worst amulet in the game due to its terrible combination of stats.
If you ask me, I think the staff is more deserving of buffs right now, and -outside of PvE- maybe even the hammer.
yeha it has been buff but yet how often do you see gurdian wildeing mace at any mode ??
I use mace/focus sword/shield in my solo open world HOT map build but then again you can use anything in open world so you may ignore everything I just wrote.

I don’t think random has any merit whatsoever. Would you consider playing soccer or baseball or whatever if the organisers said we are taking random players from professional level all the way down to people playing their first ever game and mixing them up and then saying “go play”?
The professional level players will run rings around the weaker players and still not enjoy the game because who really enjoys stomping bads?
The first time players will get completely demoralized anytime they have a 1v1 against a top level player.
In summary no one will enjoy the game.
Sorry but full randoms of any MMR is the worst idea ive read today.

if I thought queuing as a premade in ranked gave any actual benefit. It doesn’t.
So? I quote a statement that is obvious to anyone who can think logically and you quote someone who just says premades have no benefit? ooookaaaay
That someone is also a pro-league player who has hosted many tournaments in the past, so that’s what is called an expert opinion that I quoted.
That doesn’t prove anything. A pro ESL player playing solo q against your typical casual 5 man premade and hes gonna destroy them. Stands to reason he will say it doesn’t give any benefit. Ive met kitten in unranked and seen him 1v3 people on his DH and kill them all. Helseth has done the same. In fact I would say that Pro ESL players point of view when it comes to soloq vs team q is probably the least relevant to this conversation since their skill is so far above everyone else that their experiences are almost unique.
It wont let me spell the name of the top DH players begins with Mo and ends in obs

have you all ever considered a random queue? one that complete ignores mmr and other matchmaking algos. something that simply grabs 5 randos and 5 other randos?
hotjoin is hop in and out, so thats not the same. and un/ranked both consider mmr i think, so that also is attempting to funnel goods and bads into certain positions for making teams.
just another option to consider

Thats the problem with this whole thing A-net has said most people queue as solo or duo already so we are implementing a fix to something that is uncommon. It makes no sense to me.
Even if its uncommon, lets say 10% of the time. The impact to morale is disproportionately higher when you lose to a premade or lose to a solo q team.
If you lose to a solo q team you can be like OK they beat me fair and square. If you lose to a premade, its dang those premade voice comm team just wasted 15 min of my life im not gonna get back. (Even if the team never actually had voice comm etc)

You can find a premade literally by pressing the yes button after a match…
It is beyond easy. Stop being so reclusive and say hi to people.

I don’t think its quite that way. Im a social player but I have a lot of friends in game that like to do diff things. Nah lol he’s right. The premade’s extra bit of coordination from voicechat will result in a win if the teams are otherwise equally skilled. Teams not on voicechat just don’t focus as well in fights and don’t always rotate logically due to the fact that they’re not constantly communicating.
That only goes so far though. Calling next-level rotations in voicechat only goes so far if your offnode guy can’t win (or at least hold) his 1v1s. Winning still requires a base level skill advantage regardless of communications.
The biggest advantage of premades isn’t communication, it’s the ability to choose comp. (pugs are really bad at negotiating comps)
he said EQUAL level. So get 5 solo queues and a 5 man premade where all 10 players have approx the same MMR, I would bet my last dollar that the premade in voice comms will win more games than the solo team.
Correct. Irl it’s entirely possible that the Pug will win simply because MMR will compensate by picking Pug members of slightly higher skill level than the premade’s members, and that can make the difference. But in the way the example is worded, premade and Pug members being of equal skill level, voicechat-coordinated premade wins 60% of the time, every time.
Agreed, ANET said that premades get penalized with an inflated MMR so the solo queuers tend to have a higher MMR than the true avg MMR of the premade. EXCEPT for one very very important fact. The Premade will most likely be playing the optimal class comp and each player most likely playing their best class. The SOLO q team is a random collection of classes and quite often you have 1 or more players playing an ALT class for their class achievements (another stupid thing ANET did) . Since we don’t have class specific MMR, the solo q team is actually a lot worse than the MM system thinks it is.
How many premades are actually tryharding that much with their composition? I know that there are some who would but in my experience such groups are rare compared to your average kittens-and-giggles premade.
I’m tired of perfectly good game systems getting changed just because a handful of people just had to go full tryhard.
When it came to ranked league climbing and pip win streaks I think we will be surprised at how many tryhard teams were put together to win streak their way up.
I personally know of a few in my guild that climbed 2 divisions in a day with like 10+ win streaks at a time ROFLSTOMPING pug teams.

dropping team play is totally kittened… the only positive thing that would come of this is you’d have no one to blame when you find out that you still suck lol (although then it’ll always be the pugs on your teams fault.)
The only form of spvp i still enjoy is when i get a group of 5 players and go play it gives me the best reward feeling to win.(to win as a team) and please dont say oh well you should just play tournaments ( no i shouldn’t the logistics of getting 5 friends on all at a certain time on a certain day is next to impossible and sure i could get 5 randos in my guild but id get rofl stomped)
also dont reply with well play in team ques my god can you imagine the que times lol (granted i can do something else while i wait but since i dont really pve that doesnt help me much. (ive solo’d into legendary all 4 seasons so que times would be a huge issue)
the flaw with polling is there will always be more sucky players then good ones and its sad that it appears anet will cater to the bad majority.. owell gg anet rant over

to be honest I feel the best option would be to allow 2 queues
1. Solo/Duo
2. Any roster size
Provide the player a check box option just like with strong hold /Conquest asking if they want to q Solo/Duo OR Any queue.
This way any player who is indifferent about the solo/duo/premade argument can get faster q pops. Also a Duo team may want to fight team queue and as such could get teamed with another trio vs 5 man premade.
However Im certainly not surprised with the current poll results. GW2 is a casual game and as such a vast majority of players are solo or duo q players. Anyone who thinks that premades is the norm and not the exception is deluding themselves. But when solo players do come across premades and get farmed it has a disproportionately negative impact on their game enjoyment vs if they lose against another solo q team.
Nobody should underestimate the huge benefit a proper premade has (whether voice comms or not) vs solo q players.
Just knowing how well your team mates play and how they handle themselves is a huge bonus.
When you add voice comms and the ability to tell your team mates that you need “help at home” or “don’t bother I got this, go mid.” saves a huge amount of time and gives a major tactical advantage when it comes to map rotations compared to hoping your pug solo team mates are watching mini map or reading the team chat (which again is a tactical loss since you have to spend time typing which is difficult if you are fighting 1v2 and trying to stay alive) .

A: [Solo & Duo]———[Team Queue]
Or
B: [Team Queue] (one big pool)Surely it would be how I interpreted?
You thought wrong sorry
Please read what Grouch wrote.
Hi all,
I’d like to take a moment to address some of the concerns posted since last Friday regarding the possibility of solo/duo queue.
Season 5 SOLO/DUO only if vote passes
Team Q allowed in Unranked for guild missions etc
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
They should separate queues, to pure soloQ and then put teams (2-5 players) on other. But to get people on team queue, they should give them something extra, better rewards, more rewards or something to courage players to team up and play even with randoms.
This game is supposed to be social too, not only competitive. Competitive players can go solo, and get their rewards too, but just give better rewards to those who assign a team and play PvP for more than just title. And I don’t mean competitive guild team rewards! I mean rewards for even those PUG teams who uses LFG or have friends from other guilds and want to play PvP with them.
+1 to this
And im surprised people thought the poll was for
1. Solo/Duo and Team Q
2. Remain as it is.
It was explained in LENGTH that the vote is to make it SOLO/DUO ONLY in Season 5
You folks need to read slower. SMH
Reminds me of all those school exams which say at the top “please read the questions carefully” then people rush to finish the test and wonder why they fail.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
People are going to make this decision based on flawed personal perception.
But isn’t personal perception everything? I mean do you care how other people view the game ? I don’t particularly. I care about my personal enjoyment since “newsflash” this is a game and meant to be enjoyed. So If I find that when I solo q and get put in the 4,1 or 3,1,1 vs full solo or 2,1,1,1 and we ROFLSTOMP more often than not and vice versa when im in the full solo team them my “personal perception” is that premades “generally” have an advantage over solo queuers.
Because your personal perception is different from another person’s maybe? The best thing is to have all pertinent information made available so people can make the best decision possible in the polling. Say they came out and said 5% of the time as a solo or duo you would face a team of 3 or more on average. You would still feel the same way? If thats true I don’t know what to say about that really but that you need to put down the victim mentality. I’ve been playing this game for years when there was a dedicated solo queue tons of people still cried about things like matchmaking and the like. Many solo players queued for team arena instead. I just feel like there is no magic bullett here. The matchmaking is the main problem and imo the problems with it have little do with merged queues.
Obviously everyone’s perception may be different. That’s kinda what I wanted to say in my earlier post. My point was if you play 500 games and you have a certain perception on how you do vs premades and how you do vs solo teams then why should care what other people think? You already have 500 games worth of data that is tailored specifically to you.
I agree more stats would be useful but we know ANET doesn’t give out the stats . Just BS stats like when they said how many 5 man teams face solo so they made it so a full 5 man premade would never meet a full solo. Conveniently omitting the fact that a full 5 man premade can just as easily stomp a 2,1,1,1 team. Also teams just made 4 man premade and it would end up 4,1 vs 1,1,1,1,1 or 4,1 vs 2,1,1,1 with similarly predictable results.
We know ANET has the data on every single game played. They have the results and should publish the statistics.

The amount of boons classes can spew out needs to be toned down. Along with some classes ability to strip/corrupt boons.
When you have an ele and/or rev in team it feels like everyone has at least 6 boons up permanently. Corrupting and stripping is almost pointless since a rev can reapply them all again in a few seconds.
The power creep is way too high since HOT.
