I agree It would be great to make it game wide but as mentioned above core guard is used a lot in WvW and these changes would make it very strong. Still for me personally I find zerg fighting boring and would love the core virtues changes so I can try different roaming builds.

I agree its too easy getting armor in pvp now. Ive played barely 40 matches at just over 50% win rate and I have almost 4 pieces of armor already.
And FYI the max number of armor pieces you can get is 5. So OP is incorrect when he says his guildies are working on second set of armor. You can only get 1200 ascended shards this season and you need 1300 for ONE full set.
40 matches at 4 matches per hour is 10 hours of gameplay without even a good win rate and you can get 3 almost 4 armor pieces. Try getting that many in WvW. Not a chance without RNG heavily in your favor.

The current rewards are crazy high. I mean you get lots of gold and ascended gear. Ive barely played (less than 40 matches) and I have enough shards for 3 or 4 armor pieces already . I hope Anet doesn’t “reduce” the amount of shards/gold we get per chest because frankly it seems way too easy.

Im all for having 2 Queues. A 5 Man team Q would definitely be in the spirit of an MMO. PvP population is an issue but I think with Season 5 we might even get an increase. I personally am enjoying this season. Most matches are fairly close. Better than previous seasons. Matching people by skill rating and not by pips (like prev seasons) has created better balanced matches.

I believe, but haven’t seen any confirmation, that the higher your MMR, the less you gain relative to how much you lose. This would make it so you would need a higher and higher win ratio to maintain a higher MMR. This also means you can’t grind to 2000 rating with a mediocre w/l ratio (like 1.05).
This is correct. My current rating is 2029 and I win between 3 and 10 for a win and lose between 11-25 for a loss. This is on average though as I have lost over 35 in one game. I can sometimes go 4-1 and lose rating. I think this is a good thing though because it means you need at least about a 65% win rate or maybe more to get 2000 rating.
I agree with you that this is a good thing as it makes it harder to push higher. I presume it would be the same at the bottom of the league, you will gain way more per win vs losing. Im more likely to test that scenario rather than the former ! :P

- People who fight off point or get kited by mesmers off point while it is not taken or occupied by opposing color
- People who say literally nothing until we are losing, then explode in rage because nobody knows what they’re doing.
- Thieves that refuse to switch if we have more than two thieves. (I can’t be really frustrated at this because some people may just have one character. That’s a failing of the game more than the player I think.)
- People who see 3+ stacked on mid and push it by themselves
- Any non-heavy that does the above (X2)
- People that wont regroup when team wipes and just run off to w/e point is being contested.
- People who go home out of the gate when its already being capped and stand there.
- Any non mes or thief that pushes far without help.
- People that push far and stand there in expectation, even if they manage to fully cap the point when opposing team just completely wiped. Rally at mid please, you’re going to get eaten alive.
- Thieves that don’t at least decap/harass far when it’s free (This is your job >:{ )
- Afkers.
- People who say nothing in game at all
- People who wont listen to the 1 minute call for “Proceed to [kittening] TRANQ”
- People who leave home abandoned when a thief/mes is clearly harassing home.
- People who have a downed ally in a team fight and a downed opponent in a team fight that wont stomp the opponent if the ally is not in danger of dying immediately.
- Unfocused necros
- The -other- kind of unfocused necros.
- Blaming the thief for the loss when the thief performed well/demoralizing the thief in game when far is being harassed properly, because your sorry butt can’t stay off the ground and you think that by blaming the thief nobody will notice.
- Thieves that port out of a heal when they arent in danger of being stomped (or that wont stealth themselves when they are in danger of being stomped when that option is available so I/someone can rez)
*Thieves that do this but up a ledge . (X2)- Failing to update on status of Lord.
If you do not fall into any of these categories Idec if we lose. Usually if team loses it’s because of one or more of these is being done incessantly (obvious pet peeves like “waaah, thief ported” aside) .
pretty much all this…. Plus players that AFK because we lost the first mid fight.

I had more success with carrion amulet than deadshot. The extra condi duration from deadshot is nice but you lose a lot of power which is really noticeable in 1v1’s. Sage is also ok with the buffed virtue.

DH and War both needs some serious nerfs somewhere. As it stands currently both heavies put out too much damage, are basically immune to condi (remember when War was “Weak to condi”?…lol great design ANet), have absurd uptime on invuln to regular damage AND have multiple gap closers.
I agree that DH could use some changes but warrior? I barely see any warriors and when I do they usually aren’t much of a problem. Given a choice id rather face a warrior than a DH anytime. (I play Engi, DH, War and Rev in pvp)

I know a guy who went to pvp just for the ascended stuff. He doesn’t even know how to open the build tab and just went in. He was wondering why he was getting flamed so much. I mean if you are going to play in ranked at least be respectful right? This is the same guy that wants his wvw guildmates or even other people to use meta builds. I have never cringed so much in all my time playing gw2 after seeing this guy.
You need to be level 20 pvp to play ranked. Are you saying he got his 20 levels and never opened his build tab? hmmmm doesn’t sound right to me.

Also it should encourage solo pvpers to make friends/future teammates during the solo season, get them together as premades and still give ranked teamQ a go if they are inclined to do so.
GW2 has had 4 seasons and years before that to encourage players to make friends to create premades. It didn’t work. ANET’s data showed a huge majority of players solo or duo queued in previous seasons.
Removing Solo/Duo completely in favor of 5 man team Q only may encourage some players to make teams but I would bet my last Gold piece that the overall pvp population would be dramatically lower.
I personally don’t have enough time to commit to team play. my play time is erratic/unpredictable and only a few hours per week. So I would just skip the team q season and go WVW for that season.

I don’t see that many warriors. I see tons of DH, Mesmers and Druids.
you have to realize that Warriors use a selfish build that provides very little team support/utility. In solo/duo q system we have here I think classes that do good damage but also support the team whether by healing/condi clear/boons etc are more of a force multiplier.

I don’t do raids and Im only just getting into fractals ( I pvp/wvw) so getting Ascended gear in pvp is awesome for me. I do think they could change the rewards and skew it more towards winning and get less for losing.
Also make some kind of system that rewards you or you lose less if you get a close result. Like losing team gets at least 450 score.

i used to play pvp just for pvp, but then i got into wvw and needed gear so i had to PVE for it…..Now i can pvp and get the gear/gold while pvp’ing. Sweet. Sorry buddy I’m happy with the new changes.

I don’t really want to add more because it appears we are maybe talking similar stuff.
To summarize I personally advocate for a 5 MAN team Q and a Solo/Duo Q but ANET says (or at least the forums think) we don’t have enough population.
In this case i firmly believe that solo/duo Q is the best option if we can only support one Q type since the vast majority of players solo or duo. (ANET’s own data)
As to Duo being stronger than Solo, yes of course it is but it was a compromise to allow players to team up with friends, since TeamQ was not possible in ranked.
Have a good weekend and hopefully players ratings stabilize as more weekend warriors like myself get more games played for the MM to get a more accurate rating.

I don’t agree that it’s unfair, because anyone can do it. I’ve added and paired with 3 new friends since Monday because I just complimented their play and then invited then to play with me. Hell, I’ll duo with you if you want, I’m Gold 1 right now.
This was my method in all previous 4 seasons. I started match solo and after a couple matches i ended up in a duo or trio just from asking people i met in game. By end of season i had a decent friend list of players that i could count on to duo or even trio on.
Bear in mind my guildies and i found that the MM appeared to penalize you more as trio than it did as a duo (inflating mmr when finding enemies) so we felt that it was better to duo or go 4/5 man. trio was not optimal. Maybe it was just our perception but whatever. haha

You could say the same thing about 2-3 people. How hard is it to find 2 friends to play with?
Also yes it is unfair, we werent even in voice chat.
Its exponentially harder to get 3 or 4 or 5 in a team. That’s the whole point of pvp guilds and then getting 4 other people who want to team with you. Its much much much easier to find one person who is willing to team up with you.
For example i actually don’t play that much (usually weekends only) and as such i cant commit to a full 5 man team. But when i login i solo q or if i have a few friends online in my list i can usually whisper one to see if they want to duo a couple matches. Get them done and logoff.
Waaaaaay easier than 4 or 5 man or even 3 (well 3 is not too hard )

It would still be a fair system. People who are bad will get stuck at some point and good players will win more often than not. Would actually make the climb to legend more like a fight.
Except they did that in Season 1 (or was it 2 also) and the rivers of tears from Ambers complaining they were matched against ESL players were biblical. Also Pro players complained it was boring having to stomp ambers just to get to their correct division.

this is the build for burning guard
it yield the best dmg output direct and condition combine with cover conditions
good in 1v1 and also team fight with burning around the area
also PF with DH line with nice pull can work either but you lose the 25% crit chance so less direct dmg
Ive been using it with DH line and Zealots aggression , dulled senses for the cover condis. Yes you lose the crit chance from Radiance line but at least in a 1v1 you can use the F1 pull over Purging flames. I do like core burn guard too although you can also replace radiance with honor for writ of persistence. The longer larger symbols help proc more AOE burns in team fights, and of course the healing is good from dodge heals, aegis heals and symbol heals especially with sage amulet.

i think duo q is fine, it is meant to be a social game and duo q actually allows for some build flexibity since you can duo q as a support class and dps class. If its pure solo you will need to Q as kind of an all rounder build because you cant be sure who you will get teamed with.
For eg i believe you play rev a lot. You can q with an Ele or Druid to help support you. Whereas i would not want to solo q as a rev (at least with my barely average skill level)

nothing as far as i can tell. Get legend top status. Stop playing and you will get maximum 700 points of decay.
Come back in the last 3 days and play 7 matches to clear your decay. So long as you don’t get destroyed in those 7 matches you will still have a high rating.
Not sure who will want to do that but its a thought.

The percentage of games queued solo. That way you can tell if the people at the top are only there because they duo queue every game.
I had posted earlier that the leaderboards should show 2 extra stats.
1. A (D) if you played more than 50% as Duo or an (S) if you played more than 50% solo.
2. A class icon next to your name showing the class you played the most this season.
This would be very informative to the pvp population as to which classes are truly OP and widely used.

Blinds don’t do too much to Warrior due to their stupid amount of Resistance they can apply, which 100% nullifies Blind just throwing that tidbit out there.
You have approx 12 sec of resistance every 60 sec. And if you use Heal Sig for resistance then you lose that lovely 380 Hp/S healing signet passive. You cant have it both ways. Either you have high uptime on resistance or you have high regen.

Plain simple math that anyone can understand.
Look at your average enemy warrior with percentage bars on and you will see that health regen minimum 5% every second. A warrior have a minimum of 19200 hp, but most will have marauder or similar. So the Warrior regen 1000+ health a second. Thats the eqvivalent of any other class popping their active heal on a 4-6s cooldown. While doing almost as much damage as possible. Other classes can come close to that kind of healing yes but they have to sacrifice alot in terms of offensive power.
And thats why the warrior has been OP since release. You notice this now? No one cares anymore. Anet dont care and we dont care. Lets nerf the other classes some more. Oh and buff guardians. They need it.
Its 1000 hp/s MAX not Minimum and they do actually have to land their burst to proc it. With all the blinds and blocks out there its not quite as easy as you think, Its easy in a team fight but try that in a 1v1 vs a DH or a thief with constant blinds/blocks and your F1 burst can miss quite often. And you say War has been OP since release. Did you even play Season 1 or Season 2 where having a war on your team was a guaranteed loss?

I still don’t understand how people can say this season system is worse than previous.
People were complaining that they couldn’t get rewards because of the +1 win -1 loss of previous seasons. Now we get reward tracks whether we win or lose.
People wanted a more representative scoring system to know who was actually carrying in matches. Now we do.
People wanted an actual leaderboard with a MMR style Rating and no safety net so players can see who really is good as opposed to grinding. We got that.
People complained (me included) that they didn’t like being farmed by premades when playing solo. We got that.
Heck we can even get ascended armor now.
I haven’t played too many games yet but so far the structure of the system and my matches have been enjoyable.
Maybe in a week or two i might change my mind but it wont be because of the system structure/intent of ANET. Many factors can affect that . From lazy team mates, DCs, AFKers, PVE scrubs just getting awards.

I’m excited to finally have MMR out in the open. We can get some great community feedback like what professions dominate which skill ratings to better handle player perception. We have metrics like this internally, but its super tedious to look up the skill rating of every player that gives balance feedback on the forums.
Evan , how about adding the Profession icon next to each player in the leaderboard signifying which class they have the most percentage of games on this season. Easy way to find out which class is OP and the rest of us will be able to see it in real time every day.

I was playing power war (GS M/Sh) as recently as 2 weeks ago off season and didn’t have too much of a problem with DH. With the nerfs to trap i would think it would be easier since no interrupts but i haven’t tested it since S5 started.

I’ve been using my condi warrior build, sword/torch and mace/shield with wanderers amulet and krait runes. It has been working pretty well so far against almost anything I’ve run in to.
I find it tough to get used to the ragezerker build on metabattle. I cant get the handle of not having Fast Hands. It throws me off all my rotations.

I run Medi burn and it has plenty of sustain, you just can’t face roll the key board. It is great 1v1, but also does well kiting outside a team battle. It’s amazing how many people run in and out of purging flame. It’s like they just like seeing the stacks of burning pile up on them.
Against a good player I can maintain 6-10 stacks of burn. Against morons I’ve gotten as high as 20.
I’ve tried all the other Guard builds and they just bore me. I love my burn guard.
yup people aren’t used to Purging Flames in pvp and don’t realize how hot it burns! I would kite melee players like rev and warrior around the ring and watch them eat it.

i duo Queued with a guildie that specced Bunker Staff guard and between us we got pretty much all of the Top Stats in a few of the matches.

it def feels like its harder without the interrupts. Using my burn build i definitely missed the interrupts when fighting thieves. Also had harder time stomping because couldn’t use a trap to interrupt a res.

i played only 8 matches and really enjoyed it. I specced DH Valor Virtues with heal Trap, JI, Purging Flames and Smite Condition plus Renewed focus. Using Sc/Shield Sword/Focus Sage Amulet and Balth runes.
With Permeating wrath , Zealots aggression and dulled senses you get Burn, Vuln and Cripple on every passive VOJ proc which is very nice in team fights. geomancy sigil on both weapon sets for bleed as another cover condi.
You have to focus Team fights because permeating wrath is so much stronger. For 1v1 i think standard meditrapper or symbolic build is better, Team fights the burns stack really high.

After a couple more matches, I’ve started to realize how useless 1.5 seconds of slow is for us. I wish they made it cripple for 1.5 seconds
I switched to burn DH. only using heal trap. Switched out TOF for Purging flames.

I really like the end summary screen showing who won top stats etc and your % values. I was duo queuing last night with a guildie and for a few matches between us we got all the top stats, none for our teammates.

Anyone who played the first day of Season should not expect fantastic games. There was a soft reset with all players bunched up closer together. Plus new players wanting to see what the new league is like.
I didn’t play first day but I played yesterday (only had time for 8 matches so no placement yet) however 7 of those matches were close fun games with 2 of those at 500/460 scores. Only one was a blowout loss. So for me at least I had 7 really fun matches. Small sample size but MM was ok for me. I would guess come next week it should be better for overall as players move into their correct divisions
