I want to ride on a flying dragon. No? Well since dragons are the root of all evil in this game…how about a flying Phoenix? they are natural enemies…

The argument as it would subtract away from elements of the game is balony. People already pop Anti CC skills just to run thru Cursed Shore. Besides you can easily just have mounts be as fast as Swiftness speeds, and the requirement be 100% World Map completion. Solve both your problems at once. In that case, ppl will be forced to explore the World.

People want mounts because they are cool not for a means of travel. And the argument that it is against the Lore which is kinda lame as well. This is a game with monsters and mythical dragons. It would totally make sense to have mounts or flying mounts. You can even have an entire map be aerial based and people can only move around or fight there if they had a flying eagle or something. There is a heavy influence from Lord of the Rings in this game and even in the movie they had elephants, horses, and giant eagles.

Humans can ride on horses
Norn can ride on giant penguins
Sylvari can ride on giant plant beasts
Charr can ride on big mean looking things
Asura can ride on hover cars

Champion Unique Drops and Ghost Town Areas

in Suggestions

Posted by: Stigma.7869

Stigma.7869

I’ll get straight to the point. Champions need unique drops like unique skins, weapons, armor, crafting materials, etc.. As it stands, there are Champions, Dynamic Events, or Group Event monsters who no one bothers to care about like the ones in Cursed Shore which are too far away from other DEs or deserted maps in low level areas that no one goes to anymore. How often does the mob at Cathedral of Verdance gets killed compared to other temples? How often do players still swim under water to get into Whisper Bogs to kill that monster that hasn’t been touched in months?

In order to avoid the ghost town effect for maps and certain areas of maps, there needs to be incentive to go there. GW2 players need to know that it’s a good idea to go back to some osbcure part of the world Wychmire Swamp to hunt a Veteran or Champion there because they have a 1% chance of dropping a unique item that no other monsters drop. Isn’t this an obvious tradition from past MMOs that alured MMORPG gamers?

I failed to really see the logic or your argument for this. Let’s use an analogy. Let’s remove all cars from the Real World and have everyone start walking again. Then for sure people will more often stop to smell the roses, say Hi to strangers, get more exercise, no more kitten drivers etc.

However, what happens when you have to go to work at 6 AM in the morning? Or walk home at 8 PM at night? Take you 2-3 hrs to walk to and from your necessary locations.

From your statements I know that you haven’t played this game as long as most people here have. What about things like forming PUG groups for dungeons, getting there for Dynamic Events, rushing to hunt down Dragons when they spawn? You need Waypoints. Now cases where i’m Karma farming, I try to avoid using waypoints (if I can) as they cost 1-2 silver each and I rather maximize my efficiency in making gold if I can. If I can run and make the next even I would.

The point is Anet gave us the choice of stopping and enjoying the scenery. There are many facets to the game and a lot more things to do for players. Now you come in wanting to take away our choice because you want them all to do something you want to do. How about you just personally boycott waypoints. No one stops a vegetarian from being a vegetarian. Nor do we force you to eat meat. Just don’t force us to do what you want.

You forget to show all the Ascended rings you’ve gotten through the process that are useless and sitting in the bank as well.

No offense to Anet, but I don’t believe the whole Fractals dungeon idea is considered complete (Even though it is my favorite dungeon and all I do in GW2 now).

Fractal relics are taking up space even after completing the infamous fractal capacitor back piece.

Ascended rings drop at a pleasing % due to players’ requirement to build Agony tolerance but end result is a bank full of ascended rings that are soulbound. I wish we can throw them into mystic forge to get random Ascended weapons or armor.

Fractral Weapons are skins?! I’m sure we all wanted actual Ascended class weapons and not skins. The whole idea of Ascended gear isn’t fully realized yet.

It would be nice to be able to purchase an Ascended weapon with those fractal relics even if it were let’s say 3000 Fractal relics. Not directly of course because those 250 item slots would fill up fast.

I rather have purchasable Fractal Ascended weapons than skins that can be crafted via Mystic Forge using large amts of relics.

The heart regions in each area are intended to let you know what’s going on in that part of the world. Talk to the NPCs, there’s a ton of hidden lore out there.

I don’t think going around talking to NPCs is solo play end game content the OP is referring to.

The most fulfilling solo content I found so far was killing Veteran Karkas in the new lv80 map. But other than that, there is nothing for a solo player to do aside from getting into the dungeon grinding doing “LFG.”

What is the point of repetitive Dynamic Events when the enemy camp you just destroyed rebuilds itself in 2minutes? The DE system is too superficial at this point as there is only one set of If-Else statements in a DE outcome tree. The end result is all the beautifully written and planned out GW2 Lore is marginalized because not much people care about it after seeing the same DEs over and over from karma farming for legendaries. Isn’t this existential problem getting more and more complex?

Disappointed with GW2 Sound Effects and Music

1. The sound effects are really dry and unexciting.
2. Background music is usually anti-climatic
Will GW2’s expansion revamp the sound effects and music score of this game?

The sound effects in the game need a rework IMO. The sound of melee weapons when it hits a monster is more of a “thud..thud.. thud.” Some times I wonder who came up with such a boring sound. I recently played the new FFXIV alpha and although I found the combat and movement mechanics in that game too obsolete for today’s time, one thing Square Enix did great on as usual were the sound effects and music. The sound from a spell cast or a sword strike is sharp and alert and doesn’t put you to sleep after hours of farming.

It also appears GW2 ran out of budget for any background music at all. None of the maps, appear to have any themes that are unique and give any epic feel to them. The only meaningful soundtrack in the game was only at the last fight in the Story mode at Arah against the dragon.

If the anti-farm code is actually existent and/or drop rate for legendary ingredient items are still super low… this is all to fight botting.

However, if there was a system in place to allow Karma purchases for ingredients, lodestones etc. I believe it would be beneficial and improve the desire to even attempt legendaries for players. Karma/Dynamic Events is the perfect way to avoid gold farmers/botters.

It’s a fail concept anyway. It doesn’t belong in a game that is supposed to be about player skill.

For a game about player skill, it also waste the mechanic of Stamina as it is simply a party oriented ability and almost becomes useless in solo play.

And for a game with no tank or healer, the concept of Stamina should’ve been pinnacle, but instead it is almost a gimmick due to the uselessly slow regen rate.

The Truth about Stamina and Solo Play

in Suggestions

Stigma.7869

After being in “end game” for awhile, I realized how limiting GW2 as a MMO has actually become. After finishing story content, there is absolutely no way to really go solo in this game. Keep in mind that was one of the biggest failures of FF11 was that it was impossible to play the game w/o a party. Now one of the things people do the most is playing dungeons however it always requires a full party. Is there excitement in this? Maybe after the first couple of times, but then it becomes a chore or a repetitive job. At least the classic random mob and random drop MMO system offers unpredictability. Part of soloing a really difficult map or soloing a dungeon by yourself is the exciting and test of your own abilities. For GW2 innovative combat system, I would’ve thought Anet would’ve made better use of the Stamina system. But instead it has a ridiculously slow regen time and aside for a couple of dodges it becomes useless when a player wants to solo a map champion or something (or something means hopefully a future open dungeon instead of a full party instance). I would love to test my skills against a boss or champion that can even 1 hit me if I were given the ability to skillfully be able to dodge the attacks. Will GW2 ever truly increase the stamina regeneration rate to something useful?

It will be the same here. You can count on that. They’re date specific for a reason. If they were set up like you say, they would be available to do all the way through right now.

Sorry that logic doesn’t work. You can set up a date to start, but each Act doesn’t need to be closed before the next one starts. Acts can be setup to unlock per 4 days etc but should be able to have kept open. O/w there will be people on the 31st when everyone shows up to do Halloween stuff, they can only do Act 4 and be really kitten This also prevents 100% of the population from all doing Act 1 simultaneously as before poster said.

Dynamic Events Not Dynamic : Needs more breadth and depth

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Stigma.7869

Stigma.7869

Not that i’m saying GW2 doesn’t deserve props for trying. I am impressed with the content thus far. However, does Anet plan on reworking/upgrading its current Dynamic Events in the next expansion?

(Notice I said expansion as I’m still willing to pay for this!)

The way Anet advertised the game pre-release made it seem like each scenario had like 2-3 branches outwards and then another 2-3 branches from that creating a rich event tree for each DE. But in reality it is only 1 possible scenario and then 2 branching off of it depending on pass or fail. This only gives a DE tree of 3 possible scenarios counting as the entire tree. I wished for them to expand this tree to at least 3 levels in depth if not at least 2 branches from the initial condition.

Right now a DE event roughly looks like this:

IF (condition) Then
’something happens
Else
’something else happens
Loop

This is single level and quickly becomes apparent at events where they made the restart timers too short like 60sec… or in Ruins of Orr where the same DE chain together all the time. So instead of like traditional MMOs where players went out to start quests/events, these events are on cruise control and offers the opposite effect of appearing dynamic – they appear repetitive and eventually boring after a couple days.

I wanted it to be more like:

for breadth…

RandomNumberGenerator()

Case 1
IF (bla bla bla)
’This happens
Else
’This happens
Case 2
IF (….)
Else…

…etc

or for depth…

IF (condition) Then
RandomNumberGenerator(condition)
Case 1
Case 2
….
Else
RandomNumberGenerator(condition)
Case n
Case n+1
….

If there was more breadth and more depth to each DE scenario tree, than it would at least give a better illusion of being “dynamic.” Some randomness here and there goes a long way to make the world appear bigger than it really is. Right now everyone is getting claustrophobic in terms of end game content.

Idling and Messing Around in WvW

There needs to be a system in place that not only boots players off WvW for plain idling, but also “INACTIVITY.” What I mean by inactivity is that i saw 25+ players on the server just either standing around a waypoint chatting for over half an hour while the rest of the server is fighting with whatever man power they have.

IMO WvW kick should be activated if a player:

1. Computer idles for N minutes
2. Lack of participation in either dynamic events, picking up supplies, repairs, not being in combat with enemy server players / enemy server NPCs (not killing centaurs in some random field), etc.
3. This excludes jumping puzzle areas

If the Arah dungeon itself was too long then make the Zhaitan fight a separate instance somewhere else that we have to go and put some creative thought into it.

It is not the class either. I’ve a thief contact who regularly runs with me, and he rarely goes range, and he rarely dies.

From that I can conclude that your DPS must be crap. I mean damage PER SECOND. meaning you spend more time outside of melee range and not getting agro then actually committing to the fight. You must be letter all the range dps and/or NPCs taking the agro. But yes I do agree that it takes skill to stay alive to fight melee in dungeons because it’s a fine line between actually contributing meaningful DPS and being downed all the time cuz melee attracts too much agro.

I just formed a PUG tonight and did CoF path 1. We wiped once, but managed to beat the final boss. The crystals do regen him, but it’s not absolutely necessary to destroy them. If anything better to use discretion because the time spent on destroying the crystals you lose a lot of DPS on the boss. The key to beating him is as said before…generate enough DPS to be greater than his healing and make sure all 5 are always attacking and pick up any downed team mates immediately.

I would say this is relatively easy compared to other dungeons.

If anything I would say the Devs need to tweak this boss some like reduce the number of regen crystals, but increase their regen power so players have more incentive to destroy the crystals instead of mindlessly DPSing him away like all other MMOs bosses.

It is strange that Guild Wars 2 focuses so heavily on its Vistas and jumping puzzles, and yet players are able to use the same knowledge to circumvent certain portions of the dungeon. It is intentional design..? I would like to think so as the methods of “exploits” in CoF and Arah are very specific as if the programmer had done it on purpose. If the designer doesn’t know about it, really his own fault.

This exploit doesn’t do anything to the game’s economy. It only allowed people to avoid repair costs for needing to fight those mobs in the bomb room. The timer still needs to get to 200% and the players will have the drawback of needing to fight the ghost inside the boss room. The dungeon clear time is still the same with this platform skip to if you really need beat the monsters and held out to 200%

It’s easier to blame it on the gear than your individual skill. I have teams that run dungeons wearing nothing but low level gear to avoid any repair costs instead of wearing exotic or lv80 armor. If we can run dungeons successfully, then there must be something else going on aside from not doing a gear check. I also logged in to run CoF a few times to see how the new difficulty is. It is respectfully more difficult, but a lot of PUG groups still have issues with it when i party with them. And in my perspective they aren’t very good at this game. Maybe you guys should look into increasing your level of skill and team work rather than blaming gear that has near negligible stat contributions.

It’s not that dungeons are limited to guild specific groups, it’s that they require skill and coordination. It’s logical that guilds and non-PUG groups are better at this. If it’s too hard for you to adapt with new “PUG” players then you shouldn’t be in doing dungeons at all.

The 200% bomb part didn’t really change anything. No one asking anyone to fight them mobs still. Yes it stupid decision to make by doubling the timer, teams can still kite the mobs until the timer runs out without a single death. yes the mobs are too difficult for a random group who have no idea what their roles and professions should be doing. However, If 200% is a deal breaker for you.. maybe you should practice GW2 more.

There wasn’t really any trick to it. Everyone just needs to go range including warriors and guardians. The greatswords’ damage was really not that much as you can heal from it. He was really easy to DPS down with everyone going range.
