I too think it should be reverted. If you want it to function like it currently does you could have just used it with no target at all. The current version just makes the skill unreliable and feel like garbage. I’ll just use that energy on axe 4 now instead, it will always land and put on 2 torment,chill, and slow covering my autos.

Its okay they totally ruined mace 3 by removing its tracking on it Lol. As to how is it broken use Shiro/mal mace/s mace/axe. Start in Mace/s use the block phase in immob into legend swap with hydro sigil+unyielding. Swap into Mace/axe use 5/4 theyre likely dead by this point.

Guild-wars 2 is not balanced around 1v1s if you aren’t aware now you know. Come back with some footage of you fighting diamonds/ or higher skilled players and winning by just casting embrace the darkness camping it, and not being able to effectively spam the real strong skill of mallyx Banish enchantment

I wasn’t going to reply to your terrible troll posts since you leave the impressions that you haven’t spvp-ed in this game ever beyond a hot join and the concept of condition clearing is lost on you.

That coupled with a one line “..Are you capable of reading?” which said all i needed to know about you. You are the one who is incapable of reading or counter playing this ability not I and not several others.

You are now using Shiro to argue why Embrace the darkness, a mallyx only ability is too strong and does not have counter play. Stick to your topic or make a new one if you think condi Rev as a whole is too strong that’s about all of my time I’ll give you.

Camping auto on sword was crap and so was setting my auto to Hammer #2. Nerf welcomed … and anyone that wants interesting gameplay from what is supposed to be an exciting class would agree.

How does one decide the standard for interesting game-play? How do you figure anything got better with Rev by these nerfs?

They need to remove energy costs on weapon skills at this point to make anything interesting for Rev or rework the idea of up-keep skills entirely.

You were in most cases not just simply spamming auto attacks if you were playing Rev for raids ect. For hammer if you wanted to be optimal for your damage output you would at least auto attack twice before pressing skill 2.

If you’re going to justify nerfs at least compare it to players actually playing and not being lazy.

Counter play does exist?

Don’t stand next to them root them knock them back ect they already nerfed perma stab on rev so cc does work.

Clear the condition when you have x amount of stacks or more that’s too much for you to deal with.

Resistance works duh

Yet another way to counter the ability you claim has little to 0 counter play, seriously sounds like a salt post from someone who got killed by an ability or see something they don’t like.

Condition burst is not slow attrition it’s when you have an enormous amount of damaging conditions dumped on you that tick too fast.

In your loaded video you justify “it does too much damage” using Krait runes which apply damaging conditions for being hit and using your elite against an opponent who doesn’t even try to counter play and just runs away which generates even more damage.

Real talk, you know they test the content now assume they’ve already beaten it before you ever get your hands on it.

They’re there to make sure its going to stay challenging but i’m sure anet also has internal tests as well guys. It’s not like more metrics are a bad thing for anyone.

As for worlds/servers first, i kind of would like it if Anet did have/track that information, should disputes arise even if its community driven.

It helps keep competition alive for those that want it by knowing for sure if they succeeded or failed when margins get tight and gives them incentive to strive to be better instead of this “everybody wins attitude”.

Hammer vs staff (pve)

Sword is the best in terms of pure damage but Staff is better than hammer for pve for a melee friendly situation. It is very strong against break bars skill 5 pretty much melts it, far stronger than hammer is. Hammer is excellent ranged damage if the situation is not melee friendly.

If you can, just get both and adjust on the fly for the situation.

Play how you want has nothing to do with earning what Anet is trying to make a prestigious reward. This is the item, This is how you have to earn it.

That’s how you make something semi impressive by not handing them out like candy for anyone who will open their wallet wide enough.

It is what you make it. If you want to que up alone you should expect egos to clash and the blame game in any pvp of any game. Sure developers will never admit that because it looks bad but that’s how competitive people get at times.

No one owns up to failure these days and no team based mode is fun with randoms most of the time, especially if they’re wannabe esports or dont communicate.

That being said the legendary isn’t required it’s something you want, so make the most of it and try to get yourself a pvp legendary back piece as well while you’re at it.

Worse comes to worse Top Pvpers could offer their services for gold to carry you if you hate it that badly.

@Zach you have no idea how much someone has paid unless you are them, don’t assume anything unless you want to look like a jerk, using silly “you got your moneys worth arguments” especially if you don’t know anything about them. (base game at launch 60-150 dollars potentially+HoT 60-100 dollars potentially)

Your opinion isn’t a fact sure it’s an mmorpg but several people bought gw2 because of guildwars 1 where they could, infact solo everything with their heros/henchmen. (yes im aware they didn’t exist right away)

There will surely be content you can solo as well as roaming around the new maps, i am sure they’re aware players find only certain aspects of the game appealing, but you in this instance are not the target audience.

Instanced group content has been so mediocre in the game for so long this is, in all likely-hood Anets way of giving those players their time to shine while still providing for the other groups as well.

MMORPGs by nature are not going to give you Witcher 3 RPG experiences, where you are the sole focus of everything that will go on in the world.

You are by the very nature of MMOs expected to play with others at some point and should adjust your expectations, or look to the RPG genre for your gaming experience/needs.

It is not uncommon to have players who like seeing people in their world knowing they are real people but not wanting to interact with them, However they are not usually the majority of a developers focus efforts.

Don’t forget you will have games like Fallout 4 on the horizon as something to play as well should you find that HoT is not up to par. I also would not be shocked if we saw Living world reappear at some point after HoT is out so keep all those things in mind.

People don’t want the rune of the trapper nerf, instead only specifically the thief.

Yes because the runes are not the problem? They function the same way on Guardian and on Ranger and there’s no issue.

But the way thief traps are set up allows them to stay perma stealthed which is ridiculous. Why nerf the runes when you could just add direct damage to traps to bring them in line with the others?

They used to do direct damage and the traps were garbage, mostly because of how dependent thief is on stealth.

Usually against any decent players they will still be garbage and a non-issue unless there is a party of these guys.

Come HoT that thief will just be glint revealed and rekt.

No one knows if anything will be broken until launch this is a foolish statement to make that you cannot possibly prove or disprove.

I play for 10+ hours a day its entirely possible in less than a week I could be at that point with xp boosters ect.

There is always a ton of white knighting and apologists whenever someone makes a point that appears to discredit Anet practices in anyway, no matter how dumb some of them are.

They as a company are not perfect by any means and honestly almost every company has problems, but this is no reason to bring up pointless arguments when interacting with a disgruntled customer.

The general response is from most people, “if you don’t like it leave” which is, to be blunt the dumbest response ever.

If enough paying customers leave your game will suffer. I don’t agree with the releasing of legendarys or content in a trickle fashion.

Especially if your class cannot even use the weapons coming out, but on the other hand if we’re going to get rushed garbage i also would not be happy with that.

Sometimes during game development alot of things go wrong in a short window that create alot of set-backs. It shouldnt be passed along to customers ever but stuff happens.

@ Zetsumei It’s pretty common knowledge in this day/age that you don’t pre-order, let alone fully pre-purchase a game anymore unless you’re entirely sure you’re going to be playing it, regardless what happens or is offered.

If you have any doubts you should just wait till reviews from trusted sources come out after its launch before rushing to purchase. Anet does let you buy those preorder goodies from the gemstore at later dates too which is pretty fair.

It is a double edged sword because in mmo’s time matters, especially if you are looking to be competitive in anyway.

That being said you are entitled to feel crappy about the practices regardless what anyone else says to try to justify it.

It is better to be vocal than silent because it means that the company can address it in someway and potentially try to improve.

All in all, if you’ve been here from the start of the game i think its safe to say Anet has poor management and rewards teams to say the least but hey, they’re trying.

If HoT isnt good enough for you, I would recommend you try blade and soul, paid beta access is Oct 30th.

Not met condi warriors yet. But yes, nearly everything I fight is condi based. I just want burn to be made like other conditions – reduce the strength, increase the duration.

Thats because the best condi build you could run on a warrior will come out with HoT :x

On another note

The condition Weakness should reduce the damage conditions do. Its been far too long that this condition only had real impact on power based builds and really needs to be brought up to current Meta standards. Vuln got tweaked so there really is no excuse to not change it.

Maybe with all these weird support builds for HoT anet thinks team comps will bring them to manage the teams conditions, but honestly they’ll just be focused down first every-time there’s a fight.

The wildcard would be a Mallyx glint Rev build possibly cele and providing alot of resistance, but Mallyx took a decent hit with from bwe2-3 so who knows.

Lol wow alot of mindless people in this thread talking about adding a counter to stealth because in their mind “stealth is un-counterable” which is a L2p issue on their end.

They apparently aren’t aware of how useless you are to your team if you sit in stealth too long and are salty if a thief stealths and leaves a fight in wvw against them.

Furthermore their totally happy adding reveal to more classes when reveal itself is a garbage mechanic that is poorly made.

No diminishing returns like a plethora of things in this game, can be applied with a trap in WvW out of your inventory.

No way to counter play it what so ever, literally you just are expected to endure losing an entire trait-line worth of traits to mostly passive procs or insta cast skills.

Anyone who even remotely thinks that its a good mechanic and fair in anyway to thief clearly just wants that class to be deleted already.

HoT will have 2 metas, 1 for conquest 1 for stronKhold, at this point with how many casual players hate thieves or any stealth assassin from any game, may as well re-roll to a Rev.

Oh yes the Rev reveal is no where near as strong! it only reveals everyone in an SR and can be cast mid sword 3.

You yourself are claiming the one had 900 range but not really it seemed to be iffy….because you tested it in 1v1 duels…. that don’t matter, won’t matter are in every-way shape and form irrelevant to the game’s core pvp.

Let’s ignore that several of these “Reveal mechanics” are either passive procs, traps, large radius aoes, or 1200 range shouts/analyzes.

There is 0 diminishing returns on Reveal it just over-writes itself constantly with the only cleanse being time.

It negates entire trait lines worth of choices for thief, some traits for mesmer and pretty much none for every other class except that 1 ranger trait no one uses. But somehow that garbage mechanic is “justified”.

How about real counter-play like you can still stealth but are visible when these stealth counter measures are on you, very much like you are to allies in your party?

Please continue to dismiss any feedback from other players who don’t agree with your, putting it nicely, pathetic testing attempts on random players playing a new spec in a non pvp game-mode.

There is literally no reason to put yourself through playing thief anymore in HoT unless you enjoy self abuse. Roll a Rev and enjoy being as good as thief was on launch.

Trait is fine.There were plenty of reasons were provided by several people, use the other 2 traits if you don’t like that option and get over it already.

It wont change, and the fact is that its a good trait for support builds with ventari/glint.

It doesn’t stop you from reducing your heal by casting your elite and getting prot or your f2 or being CCed if you’re using retribution.

You will most likely get a random free protection boon in a team fight anyway from an ally so again, it is what it is.

It really is a non-issue pick a different one and be done there’s like 2 weeks till launch it is super unlikely it will change.

Lyssa Runes, Use glint’s heal earlier when you notice you’re fighting a condi player. If they’re using confusion/torment move around while spamming your skills during the glint heal to go back to full and turtle with shield.

Do your best to dodge,block, and evade their condition applications in the first place if you can.

Alternatively you can invest in mel or hoelbrek runes+-condi duration food, or bring a friend who has some group-wide utility.

I wouldn’t bother using mallyx/shiro i killed plenty of other revs running this during beta weekend.

Worse comes to worse disengage and pick another target.

@Jim Roy stated around the time we got weapon swap that they were leaving the legend swap procs in for now to see how things panned out.

Phase Traversal

So you’re taking retribution so you literally will do less damage and lose out on invocation for 1 stack of stab on dodge, an okay choice in Spvp but terrible choice in WvW and strong-hold.

Wall of text that ignores the plethora of condition counter play in the game and still provides 0 evidence of your same DPS claims.

Only bad players will sit in melee range once they know you’re a condi Rev, and if you’re using Shiro/Mallyx you’re losing out on way better builds you could be running.

You proved my point exactly, you are not informed on what you can actually do with a thief.

I’ve played one for over 5000 hours, Ini comes back at a reasonable rate and one can simply Jump and cast sword 2 to leave no white circle and rapid step after targets.

Learn a little something from more seasoned players since clearly you must not have known that.

You swap legends as a Rev you cant keep using Phase traversal so i don’t know what you’re even trying to get at here. 9 seconds is a long time trying to chase or get away from someone.

TL:DR The age of running away is over, get over it and prepare to actually fight to win.

Feels similar to the problem Daredevil staff 2 had, it is slightly clunky in a way and is sometimes unreliable when trying to follow up a combo sword 3 swap staff 5.

It’s also kind of annoying that it pushes people off to the sides of the skill unless you land it dead center but that does give it a sort of “pseudo skill gap for use”.

I wouldn’t mind if it went towards my target similar to heart seeker because it would still have the best of both worlds without being too crazy where you just poof to the side without any telegraph.

Phase Traversal

You switching legends isn’t a small ordeal as a Revenant. The act of doing so means you’re not in shiro, which means your skirmishing potential just significantly dropped because you no longer have multiple stun breaks. It’s like leaving fire or air and being stuck in earth or water on ele without being able to go through a solid rotation.

If the developers have a problem with it they will fix it, I personally hope it stays the same and players like yourself just get over the whole “Running away is an option”

You always have the option to play with groups to cover for your errors and clearly don’t play Revenant against anyone who has a clue how it works. It has the most predictable builds and rotation patterns out of all the classes.

You can literally know everything about your opponent without having to exchange back and forth at a glance. Your dps didn’t take a hit on condition builds, well prove this statement. Torment requires them to move, confusion requires them to attack to get real damage out of either of these conditions. Thus the players you were pub stomping prolly: A. havent ever even fought a Rev or B. Arent very good. It doesn’t mean your dps claims are true.

All this topic has become is I the OP am 100% right and will not admit to any other valid points players bring up, if you disagree with me you are wrong.

I can do the same exact thing a Revenant does with shiro phase traversal with sword 2 on thief but you prolly aren’t even aware of that, it just takes a few more buttons.

TL:DR OPs problem with the skill is exactly just that, their problem. Don’t bother trying to discuss it with them as they don’t actually care what you think unless it coincides with their own viewpoint.

Sometimes the staff 4 heal doesn’t remove conditions, I am not 100% sure what causes it Roy. May have happened when the skill moved from a stationary to mobile one.

There is no problem with it as many others have said. If you think these over the top tanky-zerg surf builds who are designed to run away are acceptable well, this could be the way the developers are telling you the player that doesn’t fly anymore.

If you go into a pvp map and have no intentions of pvping and only want to run away when attacked adjust your build for more survival so you can fight.

They added more dedicated healers to the game and clearly expect you to play with them to try to win your fight not run. If worse comes to worse fight near a tower door like several other cowards do. It is 100% effective at stopping all of shiro’s skills and sword 3.

Generally people reflect things that they see are coming. With this skill it’s actually really hard to tell when it’s gonna be used.

They glow red to indicate zerk mode and then there’s a weird like symbol that pops up as its casting. If its going to be such a heavy hitter, it should totally have a stronger tell especially since you can move and shoot with it.

As to signets going through defenses it didn’t work vs a scrapper i fought for some reason it still reflected it lol.

Besides making Bandits Defense 2seconds long could we by any chance make it where its a option if you want to use the knock back or not? Theres times where i just want the block not to be flinged back toward my opponent who might be bursting me

i like this, sometimes you just want to block and haul kitten , sometimes you want to block then have gaint a NEW ABILITY TO KICK SOMEONE IN THE GROIN IF YOU BLOCKED AN ATTACK MELEE RANGE!!!…

Perplexity rune proc using staff 5 an extra block that also blinds quick attacks with whirl finishers which produce conditions in most cases. So yes it will work with mallyx just fine as well

Rune and Sigil wardrobe thats tied to the specific weapon/armor piece. You still have to apply that rune/sigil to the gear but it becomes part of that weapon and selectable.

This would also be useful for the infusions so you can go between WvW and Fractal infusion sets.

Thus you can apply all of them to all pieces add achievement points for it, remove more gold from the economy, and provide the functionality players will want.

This would add “gear progression” that’s entirely convenience based and many wouldnt have to even unlock everything if they didn’t want to.

this is pretty big guys, the first thief op thread in a long time….i predict a 25% nerf to pistols in the future.

Thieves can no longer attack somebody who is already fighting another player.

Rev can actually do damage while still providing the heals and support where druids overall dps looks like it will be weak.

Staff has a heal, and produces healing orbs. Ventari heals can be spammed out and its traitline is literally take all this extra healing %s k thx.

I think people are underestimating just how much healing potential you can put out on a Rev. At the end of the day the content will tell us what we need for it, and players are clever they end up doing things most devs/testers never even thought of.

I am more concerned if healing is going to be a thing that healers get loot/event credit for healing.

Well just remember their metrics will show that x amount of thieves are no longer logging in or not even bothering to obtain their elite spec. So they can go from there to find the root cause of why and maybe fix it.

I am personally really happy with Revenant and how it turned out so that’s where Im going.

It wont stop me from being vocal if this next BWE daredevil is still trash, its not like i want to not want to play my thief anymore lol.

Well like it clear with druids they want healers to be a thing now so its entirely possible damage could go way up and teams are expected to have a full healer or support heal/control player in their compositions.

Either-way devs only provide tools to play the players decide pretty much everything else. The problem is like all games, some things are just insanely good at killing really bad players.

Most games are made up of a majority of bad players who just want to have fun and no one enjoys getting pub stomped/farmed. Thus balance has to have a happy medium between giving pro players something to do/play against and not so pro players a chance to not die instantly.

Could be an Elite signet if they ever decide to add skills to core professions for missing catagories. Way of the Fox signet with a duration to it to be balanced. A trait that makes “Dual wields” unblockable would be more fair but all attacks would be imbalanced as hell.

If you want to buff acro but keep it thematic it should increase the range of movement based skills or the duration of “evade frames”.

Hell you could even copy the warrior trait that makes leap finishers activate twice and give that to thief for an Acro Gm.

A grandmaster that improves quickness duration and % for acrobatics would also be really awesome, but thief is not allowed to have nice things and I dont wanna be infracted for “derailing” lol

You cant compare ranged Rev hammer to Warrior melee hammer the energy cost/system is really irrelevant for Rev hammer though autos and skill 2 are free/cheap.

Engineer next beta and guardian hammers are/will be better comparisons. Revenant only has 1 ranged weapon it has to be good otherwise the class literally cannot do anything outside of melee range.

Everyone’s talking about elite specs and how good they are and i agree daredevil is pretty crappy.

However, it seems like no one is talking about how much work it will take to get them do we even know how and what it will take to get them? It’s not like we get to HoT launch day and BAM you’re a daredevil to my knowledge.

To me it seems like everyone is under the impression they’ll be super easy to get but what if they aren’t? I personally wouldn’t waste my time unlocking daredevil if it takes several hours of effort.

In short, What if it takes a significant amount of effort for something as mediocre as daredevil, now consider doing that on several toons?

Oh kilik how he was my favorite character in soul caliber 1. How the mighty has fallen.

I liked playing him back in 2 along with nightmare a-lot. Link and spawn were also pretty awesome.
