Karma Boosters Are a Scam!

I bought some karma boosters yesterday, started farming DEs, and after 45 mins my rewards started going lower and lower. I was eventually at just 19 karma and 9 copper per event. This completely wasted my boosters. Tried it again this morning and got the same problem after 25 mins, with another karma booster wasted.

Be warned, don’t buy karma boosters. Your Dynamic Event rewards will just fly down the hole.

Well, that’s about it. Dragon is a single mob and without limit damage will skyrocket.

No it won’t. If an enemy has 24 stacks of bleed and I apply a new bleed it will not refresh the duration of the previous 24 stacks. All it does is add a new bleed with its own separate damage and duration independent of any other bleed. Nothing more. There’s no skyrocketing damage whatsoever.

I have to admit… I haven’t even noticed this. Granted, my highest-level character is only 31, because I’m levelling all 5 of my characters simultaneously and juggling a real life as a stay-at-home mom and college student at the same time. And I’ve only explored about 15% of the map, all totalled. But I really haven’t noticed any diminishing returns on my rampages of gory mayhem. I think perhaps those of you troubled by this simply rushed through your levels too quickly.

(EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION) I don’t know if my low levels or my incomplete exploration are responsible for me not noticing the diminishing returns. My remark is intended to the effect that those who are complaining about diminishing returns have rushed through the available content so quickly that gathering loot and raising funds are all they have left to do. I also don’t know if this is true, it’s just what I’m inferring.

If you’re just going around focusing on hearts you tend not to notice the problem since heart rewards aren’t penalized. If you focus on killing mobs or doing Dynamic events, you run into the problem quickly.

this is not hard…

I’ll repeat it again, that simply does not work. The event cap doesn’t care where you are. It kicks in regardless of where you are or which events you complete.

Furthermore, you can hit the event cap in 25 minutes if you know what you’re doing.

Going to other zones has no effect on the dynamic event penalty. I’ve tried it several times, and completing events elsewhere exacerbates the penalty just as it would in the zone you started. The only way to reset it is to not do any events for 15-20 minutes.

I too would love very much to know why this was added and when it will be removed.

A List of Problems With AC Path #2

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Kohler:
Kohler is easy once you read a guide, but stupidly annoying to figure out without one due to vague and inconsistent mechanics. He has an AoE pull which fires projectiles that aren’t actually projectiles, so if you thought Mimic or Feedback could protect you, you’ll die anyway. Great consistency. It’s also hard to notice that he’s even firing projectiles at all since they’re black on black, so it’s easy to assume that the attack is unavoidable. He also tends to pull you through walls somehow. On the plus side, his attack is actually telegraphed well, which is more than can be said for plenty of other attacks.

Spike Trap Room:
It seems like the devs intended for you to time the spike traps, but that’s idiotic. Not only is always the best idea to spam them as often as possible, but even if you did try to time them you wouldn’t be able to because there’s so many enemies that they don’t all render, so you can’t possibly tell whether there are any enemies over your trap regardless.

All you do with this is have four party members stand on top of the poles with the spike trap chains so they can’t take aggro and have them spam the trap as often as possible, all while using ranged DPS on the boss. Meanwhile a guardian or warrior should kite the enemies across the traps. Totally trivial.

Ghost Eater:
I have no idea what was intended for this fight, but the mortars are all completely useless. They do complete crap for damage. It’s even more perplexing because the boss is just tank and spank. He only has one significant attack that’s easily avoided. Why did you think we would need the mortars? What was supposed to be the gimmick for this boss?

[Devquote included] Dungeon Gear Token Costs (Aka, whatever happened to anti-grind philosophy?)

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Strill.2591

I agree, but having to do the same dungeon over and over again is repetitive. Allow us to do different content that they have and reward us by allowing us to exchange the tokens for the gear we want.

This. Let us trade tokens at a 2:1 ratio so that even though I want a full set of Honor of the Waves gear, I can still play with my friends who all want other gear. As it is, we can’t play together and I can’t even find anyone who’s willing to even consider that horrendously time-consuming dungeon.

The main thing I am seeing, is that people are upset that I took away their super profitable low risk, fast, token grind.

That’s not why I’m upset. I’m upset because the token system means you get nothing until you complete the same dungeon at least 7 times. Without CoF as a reliable token grind area, it’s that much harder to find four other people who all want to do any specific dungeon 7-50 times no matter which one it is. I could have 500 dungeon tokens and they’d be useless to me unless they were all from the same dungeon. That is a very frustrating system.

My issue is that there’s just way too much difference between getting an exotic and getting a legendary. What’s in between? The second I hit 80 I got 5 pieces of exotic gear. I’ll have the rest of myself in exotics within the week. Are you saying I have zero incentive to look for gear now unless I want to embark on this thousand-hour abomination of a legendary?

I find it very hard to believe 1) Arenanet wants me to farm and grind and save up this ludicrous amount of gold/karma/mats just so i can get a COSMETIC upgrade, and 2) There’s no interim gear between exotic and legendary.

This is a big problem I think. If I’m getting close to satisfying requirements for a great item or achievement, I’ll consider that motivation. But as of now, I have no near-future carrot to chase. The reward doesn’t even come CLOSE to justifying the cost. Granted, I understand people’s opinions will vary from mine, I feel like there should be a few steps in between these two things that help me get better gear that I feel is actually obtainable.

There IS gear in-between exotic and legendary and it looks very cool.

If it takes four months of 12 hour day grinding, how did they manage that during the BWE’s? I think I’m reading something wrong.

The requirements in the Beta (not BWE) were much much lower.

From what I’ve seen, it’s currently about 100 hours of grinding for the karma. After that you need dungeon tokens, WvW tokens, and world completion, and the rest can be purchased with gold.

That’s not true. The devs explicitly explained how complex hexes from GW1 would be brought into GW2 in an intuitive way through phantasms. Instead they abandoned that idea and just made phantasms flimsy damage pets.

Should dungeons reward karma?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Strill.2591

Strill.2591

Many players—myself and many of my guild mates included—are already growing somewhat tired with grinding dynamic events. Yet karma is required for quite a few things in the game, like exclusive skins and legendaries.

It might be a welcome addition to the game if dungeon runs granted karma in addition to the usual tokens and experience. Not only would this lessen the dependence on repeating the same dynamic events over and over—events that, to be quite honest, don’t demand very much of the player beyond running with a zerg—it would also help as an incentive to run dungeons even when the token-based rewards are a long way off.

Hell. Yes. Grinding events for hours on end for that 1 million karma I need for a legendary gets boring fast. I would love to be able to switch things up and get karma from a dungeon run.

DMG vs Weapoin Strength

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Strill.2591

Strill.2591

The most fundamental element of a RPG, weapon dmg, has been replaced by some bogus generic “weapon strength” factor.
Doesn’t this bother anyone else?

I really thought I’d see some x-xx dmg starter weapons, and xx-xxx in end game tier.
Before I knew anything about gw2, I even thought they are going to have a awesome dynamic dmg system, with different type of dmg, slashing, cutting, bashing, dull, piercing, and different magic elemental types.
The hype was that big…

But… no, they didn’t even give us basic physical dmg.
Just dmg calculated by some “weapon strength”.

Couldn’t they just keep it working and mainstream?
It simply doesn’t feel right at all, doesn’t feel like anything.

Arenanet thinks it’s too hip for classic RPG standards, feeling bit rebellious, hmm?

Why does the terminology matter? What’s the difference between “basic physical dmg” and “weapon strength”?

Event Cap Makes Legendaries a Nightmare

The anti-farm thing works per zone, not for events in whole.
This means you can’t sit there and zerg down events for hours on end. You actually need to go out and explore and stop doing the same 3 events over and over.

That’s simply not true. For one, I was going all around Cursed shore to grab every event that was available all across the map when I hit the event cap. After hitting it I switched from Cursed Shore to Malchor’s Leap but I was still getting reduced karma experience and money rewards.

Event Cap Makes Legendaries a Nightmare

Since legendaries are items that were designed to take several months of playing to acquire…I do not sympathize.

They weren’t included for hardcore players with twelve hours day to grind out events and mats to get in a week.

So no, the event cap doesn’t make legendaries a nightmare. It makes extreme karma farming for the purpose of getting one as fast as possible in-efficient and you’ll probably burn out before you get close.

If you are farming the same events in a rotation enough to get hit with the anti-bot code, then you are doing it wrong. Story mode with guild-mates give big karma bonuses. Guild banners only take a few hours to create and give a big karma bonus. Consumables grant more karma. And these work in every 60-80 zone in the game.

I’m sorry, but IMO I would rather you add a little variety to your routine and earn your karma in one of the many ways available, than loosen up anti-bot anti-farm code and make the script and gold-farmer problem worse. State of game as whole > err mah geerdd I want legendary now!!

If I get a free 5 hours to farm for a legendary, I’d like to spend all that time farming. As is, the game won’t let me. Not everyone has a small amount of time every day to devote to the game.

No I have no guild-mates with story quests for karma boosts. I could get my guild to plant a karma banner though. I always use karma boosters. Beating a variety of different dynamic events makes no difference to the farming code.

As far as I know, I might be wrong, the farming scaling is only if you repeat the same events not based on how long it takes before you finish events. I would diversify more. Orr might be the highest amount of Karma you can get but it might not be the most efficient. I would also try other zones even low level zones. There are a lot of factors at play to consider efficiency. Time it takes to complete an event, risk invovled, how likely it is to fail, how long it takes between events. I would calculate how much karma I make in 1 hr at different zones you might find out you can actually play anywhere, enjoy the game and still get the karma you need!

Doesn’t work. I switched from Cursed Shore to Malchor’s Leap and still got 19 karma for several events in a row.

So there’s a limit to the number of dynamic events you can complete in a given amount of time. If you complete more, your rewards scale lower and lower till they’re next to nothing. That means that even if you get some time to farm the 1 million karma required for a legendary, this cap is gonna stop you.

Because it’s not the same amount of tokens. You get extra tokens once per day per path you complete. Doing the paths you ignore at least once will give you more than doing one you’ve done before that day.

Shatter's Severe Design Flaws

in Mesmer

Posted by: Strill.2591

Strill.2591

Well Shatter builds are viable.
Just dont expect to shatter a lot if you have a Phantasm build. There are lot of build you can run as a Mesmer and sure Mind Wrack isn’t a core ability for all.

Also, on your point 1. You approach it with a really simplistic mindset.
For instance after your Phantasm completes its attack there is a few seconds downtime with your phantasm just sitting there. You can take advantage of this time, shatter and then re-summon your phantasm to attack again.

Sure Mesmers are not as easy as a warrior to play, and sure there are many things that can improve our mechanics (Id like to see a better shatter delivery method than having me Clone run at the target) but the idea of shattering and the decisions you have to make are a good thing.

Shatters are the class mechanic. They’re intended to be useful to every specialization. “Shatter Build” and “Phantasm Build” should be defined by the effectiveness of each ability, not whether you make use of them at all. ArenaNet specifically identified other class mechanics which were mutually exclusive with other abilities and changed them so that the core ability was always useful and the other abilities were optional. That’s what the OP is asking for here.

To summerize, stop hating on the phantasm build, we get you don’t like it. If you hate it that badly go play a warrior/engineer or accept that your just not going to play it. The problem is not phantasms, the problem is that phantasms are the only properly supported trait build which doesn’t suck.

He’s not hating on it, he wants to make it optional just like pets are optional for necromancers and turrets are optional for Engineers.

The point is that the class mechanic should be universal, and should enhance the other mechanics while currently it’s not and it hurts the other mechanics.

One of the biggest selling points of GW2 for me was the scaling system. I expected to be able to farm anywhere with any of my friends no matter what level and get comparable loot. I have been sorely disappointed seeing it in action. I expected that the drops in low-level areas would be perhaps 80% of those in higher level areas in order to compensate for the fact that it’s slightly easier to complete the low-level areas. Instead I found that drop rates and rewards are DRASTICALLY lowered for higher level characters. With equipment drops you have as much chance to get a level 20 equip as a level 80 which is already bad enough, but with other items, like crafting materials, you can NEVER get any level 80 crafting materials from low-level areas which is an enormous loss in potential rewards.

I’m really bummed out on this. Why didn’t ANet want to follow through with this great idea? I want to be able to play through ANY content without it being obsolete like it currently is.

The #2 item is weapon specific. For example, for Twilight, it would be called “Gift of Twilight” and require Gift of Darkness, Gift of Metal, Superior Sigil of Leeching, and 100 Icy Runestones.

  • Gift of Darkness: 100 Onyx Lodestones, 250 Orichalcum Ingot, 250 Hardened Cured Leather Squares, Gift of Ascalon. Account Bound, requires lv400 Weaponsmithing and 10g for the recipe
  • Gift of Metal: 250 Orichalcum Ingot, 250 Platinum Ingot, 250 Darksteel Ingot, 250 Mithril Ingot. Account Bound, requires lv400 Armorsmithing and 10g for the recipe.
  • Gift of Ascalon: 500 Ascalonian Tears from Ascalonian Catacombs Explorable
  • Gift of Battle: 500 Medals of Honor (WvW)
  • Gift of Exploration: 100% World Completion.
  • Obsidian Shard: 2100 Karma ea. From the Temple of Balthazar vendor. 525,000 Karma in total.
  • Icy Runestone: 1g ea from the Vendor at the Claw of Jormag event. 100g in total.

  • Mystic Clover: 10x Glob of Ectoplasm, 10 Crystal, 10 Obsidian Shard, 10 Mystic Coins. Has a CHANCE of giving you 10 Mystic Clovers. Otherwise creates random crafting materials. If 250 Mystic Clovers are required, Legendaries will likely cost 2 million additional karma and 150 additional skill points.
  • Gift of Magic: 250 T6 Fangs, 250 T6 Scales, 250 T6 Claws, 250 T6 Bones
  • Gift of Might: 250 T6 Bloods, 250 T6 Dusts, 250 T6 Venoms, 250 T6 Totems

Annnnnd thats where you are wrong, the Gifts from Miyani are not used for all legendaries but all other items are when they say “used to craft legendary items”. This includes Gift of Exploration, Gift of Battle, Icy Runestone, Mystic Clover, Bloodstone Shard and Obsidian Shard.

One major problem with that idea. You cant add all those items to one recipy. For example the weapon Twilight will use Gift of Metal, Dusk of Rage, Gift of Darkness and one other item. It will not use Gift of Exploration, Gift of Battle, Icy Runestone, Mystic Clover, Bloodstone Shard, Obsidian Shard, Gift of Metal, Dusk of Rage, and Gift of Darkness. Theres not enough space in the mystic forge for it.

That’s false. Bloodstone Shard combines with Gift of Exploration, Gift of Battle, and 250x Obsidian Shards. Gift of Metal Combines with Gift of Darkness. There’s plenty of room for all of them.

All I see if we think we have the correct recipe and we think the calculation for the randomness of the mystic clover is correct
How about you find out if the recipe is correct first and how about you find out how many clovers you get with a certain number of combines
Then compare it to the other legedary recipes and what they have to do to get theirs
After all that is done then perhaps there may be a legitamate complaint behind the whole thing
But really in a game where just about everything you do gains karma and the fact that you are talking about what is called a legendary weapon, seeing that it would take a few months to get, I don’t really see an issue
And I don’t see it as a grind either. I don’t do events for Karma and I don’t do wvw for Karma I do those because I enjoy doing them so that is not a grind.
I’m sorry you don’t have your epic 2 weeks after the games was released though

To start, we both summon two phantasms. Then you shatter yours while I leave mine out. By the time our phantasm cooldowns are up again, my phantasms have attacked again, far outdamaging your shatter,

Or I could wait until the phantasm cooldown is just about up to Shatter so I can, you know, Shatter immediately. Like I said.

OMG MIND BLOWN.

“Immediately” and “wait” are antonyms. I don’t know what you’re trying to say.
