Wasn’t the Drake gutted once already? Now buffed again?

Or is that a different drake that I’m talking about from South Cove? It seemed strong, and I used it for a long while. Then poof, it goes byby.

I think they nerfed the damage on River Drake way back.

Remove Ascended Trinket Uniqueness Please

What they should really do is just get rid of half the ascended rings and trinkets (convert those you have to the equivalent). There is no purpose to having 2 of each stat combo anymore, since they don’t have either a gameplay or cosmetic purpose anymore.

Most of the ascended trinkets have lore tie-ins and would be a shame to just cull half of them.

Nothing is really gained and a lot of immersion is lost.

Dye backpacks ? (Shining Blade back issue)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Substance E.4852

Substance E.4852

It’s extremely hard to alter the engine so backpacks are dyeable. As far as the engine is considered, backpacks are considered items (like weapons) and gliders are considered effects. The engine needs to be fundamentally altered from the ground up to allow for item dye channels.

[Citation Needed]

Back items also take damage like armor and thus are not the same thing as accessories or weapons. They never got dye channels likely for the same reason that we only had the guild backpack at launch, it was never finished.

Backpacks will remain un-dyable so Anet can sell black and white wing sets. Plain and simple.

DAOC also had a strange concept of arrows and siege fired from top of keep having bigger range than that fired from below up top

That’s how projectiles would work in reality.

Oddly enough, arrows used to work like that in GW1 where high ground gave you a pretty significant range increase on the ranger bows which is really weird given the game’s lack of a real Y axis when it came to game mechanics.

Nice to see you have blind faith that everything is fine and there is nothing to worry about, I too put no stake in players like you who think everything is fine and there is nothing to see here.

HoT at launch was not friendly towards players who didn’t not have 2 hours to spend on one map, it is a lot better now, but the maps being on timers was a bad move Imo. Silver waste was better in being player driven. But it is what it is. The spring patch did a lot of fixing what HoT broke. I just hope summer is not more of the same.

Where? WHERE did I say everything is going to be fine? You are trying to put words in my mouth that are not true or even close to the truth of what I said. Don’t try to make me out as if I said things were all unicorns and roses. That is BS and you know it.

I said that people who claim doom and gloom or declining sales or leaving players or anything else do not have any evidence of such. That includes me and you and anyone else not in ANets accounting department. Something that you keep ignoring. Not once did I say things would be fine. I did say that I keep hearing these predictions of downfall and they don’t happen so I don’t bother with them, but not that ‘things will be fine.’ So don’t turn this on me because you don’t have facts to back up your claims.

You clearly state that the game is doing just fine despite a lack of content and seem to think that failing to deliver a huge injection of new playable material won’t have a significant impact on the game.

If that’s not thinking everything’s going to be “fine” then you probably need to define what the word fine means to you in this context.

I have been seeing statements like this for the longest time and GW2 keeps going strong. Statements like these have no factual backing to support them because again, GW2 is still going strong despite the content drought and patches that are more repair than anything else.

By your logic the only way Anet could screw up is to make the game less fun to play. Simply failing to improve it’s current state and forcing players to wait months for another go at it would have limited to no negative repercussions.

Wow. You two should start a club. “The I Read What I Want It to Say Club.”

I did NOT say I thought it was ‘doing just fine.’ I said it is still doing well despite all the naysayers. I did NOT say that they did not need new content. Where did I say that? You want to quote me, then quote that. Otherwise you are just making things up. Where did I say they didn’t need to add content for the game to thrive? Answer: nowhere. Your comment about my logic is way out in left field and nowhere close to the truth. But that is OK. Make stuff up if that makes you feel better about you.

“I did NOT say I thought it was ‘doing just fine.’ I said it is still doing well despite all the naysayers.”

What does “going strong/doing well” mean to you exactly?

You’re either splitting some mighty thin hairs here or performing some four dimensional logic gymnastics if you think those are two different opinions.

Anet isn’t going to buff core pets for the same reason they aren’t going to buff core specs.

A key selling point of HoT was power creep and it’s going to remain a key point until HoT becomes base in the free2play version, though we’ll just get power creep 2.0 at that point anyway.

Indeed. It was exactly the same with GW1. Not until the game was almost dead did they fix some long standing core issues, at least for pve (like you were forced to have Charm Animal equipped just to even be able to bring a pet with you).

To be fair though, a stated pet was basically an extra hammer warrior in your party so it did make some sense.

I barely used it after the change anyway since they removed the ability to res minions from pet corpses long before the revive pet change.

7.) This one I agree too, we have very limited cleave access so maybe pet revamps or new pets could help with these.

Do we really want new pets as an option to these issues though? With the time and effort they spent nerfing both the Smokescale and Bristleback 3 times, they could have touched on core pets and at least gave them some QoL such as cleaving auto attacks and/or lower cooldowns on F2 skills.

Not downing what you stated on that point, as I do hope there are some pet revamps done in the future. It just urks me knowing we might sooner receive a new pet in the next expansion that will address maybe 1 issue rather than all pets being improved.

I totally agree with what you are saying. But let’s face it, I have no idea why Anet does not want to buff core pets (might be a time schedule/ too much work issue OR what I fear the most is this is an upper division problem that prevents devs from doing anything)

If you ask me, I would change a lot of the core pets’ f2s and make them more utility than damage AS LONG as they fix the hitboxes on the pets. One can only dream though.

Anet isn’t going to buff core pets for the same reason they aren’t going to buff core specs.

A key selling point of HoT was power creep and it’s going to remain a key point until HoT becomes base in the free2play version, though we’ll just get power creep 2.0 at that point anyway.

The real mystery is why the wyverns are still complete trash outside of break bar burning?

They are both useless in pvp and nearly unusable in pve outside of the lighting wyverns f2 which is probably only about as good as a wolf howling and leaping but with much worse dps.

I’ve heard this is true for Final Fantasy as well. Don’t know from experience about FF, but I do know Star Trek Online is doing this right now. And a new expansion is coming out in a few weeks—for free—on top of that.

So, no, it’s not an unrealistic expectation by any stretch.

Still, I do appreciate Guild Wars at least releasing these new achievements to chase with the Ley Lines. Something is still better than nothing.

FF14 is a bit more irregular but they do have a pretty good track record of adding in new dungeons or hard modes of existing dungeons in between raid sections/wings along with other additions to over world PvE.

The one thing that really sets the FF14 team apart from the GW2 team is that they actually fill in their player-base on whats coming with hints or direct previews.

They’re very good about keeping up the appearance of always working on something vs Anet making us all think they have no direction at all.

In terms of new content injections, I always found EvE Online to be the best in terms of consistent delivery. It wasn’t always the best stuff, with one update causing the CEO to literally apologize to the player base, but they were always free and genuinely expanded the game.

Did HoT ruin GW2?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Substance E.4852

Might there be less people. It’s possible. But with the changes, I don’t think the population is as much lower as some make it out to be, it’s just different players.

HoT was a silver bullet to the head of WvW. BG went from 4 queued maps on every reset night to literally only queuing EBG on Friday with queues sometimes as high as 50+ because people hated DBL that much.

People only came back after Anet fixed up the DBL, changed some wildly OP skills (CoR, Dh longbow 5), and changed how quickly stability got ripped off you, finally allowing people to melee in group combat once again.

The above changes along with bringing back Alpine and this apparent new interest in updating the game mode put a bandage on the open chest wound the mode was suffering from but it in no way cured it nor has it come out stronger for it.

As far as dagger goes, the only thing it needs is the old traited range given back to dagger 4. It used to move you as far as the thief dagger evade which actually has a lower listed range than stalker’s strike.

It wasn’t exactly a gap closer but it felt much more fluid and fun to use than the current “spin in place” skill does.

why is it possible for wvwvw and pvp players to get pve skins through reward track but it’s not possible for pve players to get pvp/wvwvw skins?

You can.

1. Log in to WvW

2. Kill enough yaks/guards to get the bar to an acceptable level with 195 per tick the best. Lower levels will also work but will take longer the lower the bar is filled.

3. Idle in spawn, only leaving to kill a yak or guard once every 5 minutes or so to keep the reward bar from decaying via inactivity.

4. Run from any and all fights.

5. Repeat step 3 for roughly 6 hours or so per chest.

Congrats, you just obtained WvW track gear with no pvp while only pve’ing npcs.

Would be nice to see a few gay male couples though. I feel like every corner I turn I’m running into a lesbian couple.

There’s that norn in HoT.

Typically F/F is less taboo.

Show me him !

Sometimes I think lesbians are less taboo, because of bunch of men who watch lesbian porn and their dreams that are not going to happen – Then it seems to me like we’re under some kind of their dictatorship. We still have a long way before us, sadly.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Norn_Savage

As far as why it’s less taboo, that goes a long, long way back. Even biblical references explicitly define only gay male relationships as contemptible in Leviticus, mentioning nothing of women. Some would argue two of the thing you like is often better than one as well :P

Old habits are hard to break, I guess. My philosophy is that it’s none of my business to care to interject on another’s preferences so long as such relationships are responsible ones and all parties understand and the significance of intimacy and agree with it.

One could argue that’s simply a byproduct of the idea that women were expected to not only remain pure until marriage but to marry a suitable man as soon as possible.

I doubt they felt the need to make a rule for people who were ether sold off or forced to marry a man when they came of age.

Wow… That is so bad. I understand now why Rangers say anet hates them.

ahaha… Did you know that to trigger the trait Enlargement while you are in astral mode it destroys you astral mode and astral force and it is bugged from the Beta?

Same for the signet. And that’s kinda breaking having in mind that the druid don’t have much access to stability and that trait has an*ICD of 60 seconds… for 5 seconds of stability*.

Like those funny facts you can find a lot in this forums…

Technically that’s due to the fact that both are “transformations” and you can’t have two at the same time.

It’s crummy design but there might not be a way around it without getting rid of the enlargement effect and just making the signet and trait give basic buffs, with no transformation at all.

so just a food for thought… but what about making the enlargement to give an aura like SotP does but green instead of red? (because SotW is manly green)

I mean if it’s just to keep the enemies telegrafically informed we increased our weak dps a 25% in case the icon i our status bar is not enough.

You see how simple it is, and change the palette from one animation already working shouldn’t take 10 months.

All it needs is to just be a basic custom buff. The bonus isn’t so OP that it needs some huge visual sign that it’s up. Thieves don’t grow in size when they have full Lead Attacks on and that 15% is much more damaging on them than 25% is on us.

People knew it was a ripoff within minutes of the thing being in the shop just like the original silver-fed salvage-o-matic.

An extractor that consumed a gold per use would probably make them more money in the first day than the current extractor has made them over it’s whole availability.

If they want to make sexy and revealing looks for one, then make it for both. If they want to make a fully protective look for one, then make it for both. Is that really too much to ask?

It might be, actually.

For one thing, I don’t think the demand for ‘sexy/revealing’ armour is the same for both sexes. There’s always an extremely vocal group that challenges the status quo in these topics, but in-game you’ll see far more male characters of the tough, cool or stylish variety than anything else.

Of course… since there’s a huge imbalance in options available.

While it would be nice to have some more skin showing on male outfits, there isn’t some big, untapped market.

Significantly more people used the lich outfit on women in both GW1 and 2 despite the armor being almost symmetrical while a little more revealing on men.

Do you have statistics to prove that? In the end it doesn’t truly matter though, because the raiment of the lich has those weird animal legs on males. In my opinion, most wouldn’t use it outside of Halloween just because the legs look weird. People who want revealing male outfits don’t want to change their leg structure as well.

On females the raiment of the lich has normal legs with very high heels. GW2 doesn’t have many options for such footwear, so it does stand to reason that it would be quite popular for female characters.

I’m quite certain it’s because of the side boob. People that had an opinion were upset that women got “kitten me boots” rather than goat legs like men got when the GW2 version first came out. I don’t recall a single post lamenting that men got stuck with hairy animal legs.

That and go back to splitting skills for different modes. When they decided to throw skill splits out the window, balancing became more difficult on their end in regards to the 3 diverse modes.

Nah, it’s actually much easier. They have less to juggle and it’s not like they even pretend to care about pve or wvw balance.

Stuff that is just horrendously over powered in PvE like staff Ele is allowed to remain as long as it doesn’t step on pvp’s toes.

This is an interesting thread.. as I am burned out on BDO, tired of ESO and was a founder/beta tester for this game. Then I left because my guildies wanted something else while the Lions Gate was under attack… Now, I am back to lone wolf status and wondering if its worthwhile to buy HoT.

Wait until LS3 hits to make your choice.

HoT is relatively interesting but most of the fun came from doing the content with everyone else doing it for the first time.

Most of the meta events have been done so much it’s just people going through the motions with little communication outside of necessary chat.

The single player story is maybe 3 hours of content itself at most.

Even most of the rest has little replayability. Most of the people left in the maps are just there to farm materials and once you get what you need, there’s little reason to keep coming back.

Anyone who isn’t farming is usually part of some hero point train which should tell you how fun the content is to play more than once.

It’s really only worth the $50 if you intend to come back for the long haul. When compared to all other gaming media $50 could buy you, it’s not really worth it on it’s own merits.

. Further, ANet doesn’t directly benefit from an increasing gold:gem ratio — they benefit when veterans spend more than they used to and new players spend something in the first place; the increased ratio doesn’t help make that happen enough.

Of course it does.

High gem to gold ratio dis-incentivizes using gold on gems already purchased and incentivizes buying gems to turn into gold.

One circumvents the obscene gold hoard the veteran player-base has amassed and the other makes converting $10-20 worth of gems to a newbie more appealing than it has ever been.

A low ratio means the average veteran can buy gems in the system with easily farmed gold and the new player has less reason to convert to gold because they don’t get as much.

Anything that gets people to buy fresh gems is a net gain for Anet. As long as the total number of gems/gold in the exchange is kept behind closed doors, there’s little to keep them from just letting unfortunate excess fall through the cracks and have the price creep ever so higher as the years tick by.

The only way for this to blow up in Anet’s face is if they overplay their hand and let the ratio rise so high that the average player can no longer purchase gems using gold to any reasonable degree. The image of a micro-transaction store that can be bypassed with gold disappears and it no longer looks like a system designed to work for the player. Even if this isn’t truly the case, image and perception are everything. If people lose faith in the system, then it doesn’t really matter. People like micro-transaction systems that appears to be made for their benefit, not one that looks like it’s just there to grease their wallets.

And yes, it’s not the end of the world and I don’t see anyone claiming it is. However, sometimes designers and/or marketing screw up and it’s good if someone points that out to them. I thought they learned their lesson after the community backlash from Phlanx, but apparently they didn’t.

Probably because people bought it regardless of what some vocal minority rabble-rousers were saying?

Talk is cheap and moral outrage is rarely backed up with money or participation.

I know a good shoulder-waist-ratio on men is considered sexy, but I still think they overdid it on my Sylvari. XD

Look at them gains!

It is rather annoying how every other character is female wearing less clothing than a stripper.

You must visit some very boring strip clubs…

People will start to say, “supply and demand”. Reality is that it has nothing to due with supply and demand.

Incorrect. The exchange is setup to reflect supply & demand.

Due to the exchange happening through a 0 transparency intermediary who is directly benefited from an increasing gold to gem ratio, this is both impossible to prove factually as well as potentially unlikely.

This isn’t EvE were they trade PLEX face to face through buy and sell orders.

When will you stop this obnoxious crap. Stop making separate rules for armor. You either stick with revealing for both or covered for both.

This is getting really tiresome. I expect this out of some Korean grindfest.

Not you, a western company.

Just saying, but NCSoft is the publisher.

Ironically enough, Terra has pretty good armor parity in it’s designs. People kitten all over the female Castanic armor despite the fact that the male versions look like A&F models.

It just feels weird if there is such an imbalance.

That’s a small amount compared to the larger total. My point still stands.

It’s not even like this doesn’t straight mirror fashion in reality anyway.

Like how it’s summer and women are going to be wearing short shorts and low cut tops but most men will be in t-shirts and jeans or cargo shorts?

Or swimwear that sees women in bikinis but men in boardshorts?

Or formal wear that shows off womens’ legs and cleavage along with fanciful, impractical footwear while men are in cookicutter suits that boil down to color choice?

I mean, hell, Kasmeer’s armor is basically fancy formal-wear that she wears in combat because it’s a fantasy game. Why would you expect the male to be cut to flatter a female body shape anymore than her fancy party gown to look like a stiff tailcoat suit?

Why does it get annoying though? Why are people so against sexualization and revealing things? I’ll never understand that.

They’re ashamed of their own and, by extension, the human body in general.

Either they have personal body issues or they were taught to think that way.

Seriously? Do you know how hard it is to find a shirt for heavy armored males? Especially the norn. Those guys have like a religious aversion to shirts.

I would too if I was that ripped.

I would prefer a more balanced approach, because we simply got enough skimpy already.

I can only look at so many full clad vs half naked counterparts.

I mean, the greatest offender is the cool looking phalanx armor.

Even full clad can be sexy. We don’t need to see everyones bellybutton all the time.
Neither do we need to see her legs, tights, arms and most of their breasts…

It’s okay for an armor now and then, but every armor so far is following that trend and it gets annoying

The vast majority of female heavy armor is fully covering their bodies with the only possible complaint being the asinine “buh da boopplate!” argument.

The same goes for Medium and Light armor.

Everyone just zooms in on Human T3 Medium and Light because they are extreme contrasts to the norm, and not at all representative of what most armor sets look like.
