I indeed retract my very last statement ‘You are simply counting on the fact that no one checks up on your statements…’ You didn’t lie about the 11th, your statement was just unintentionally uncomprehensive.
My apologies.

World of Warcraft has race and gender changes.
Hmmmm… mist have added that after I stopped playing, about five years ago.
Well, then I hope Anet does it too!
Personally, I do not have anything against race or gender changes, but I do not like class changes (cause having a level 80 warrior that you didn’t level to 80 as warrior makes you a bad warrior).
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
I do not know any MMO that let you change your race, gender or class, do you?
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
the mats you buy are being bought and sold at their value, instead of some arbitrary inflated price after 2 or 3 people have bought and resold them immediately.
Unfortunatly, this is not true for the important materials, because the drop rate are so extremely low there is few supply and plenty of opportunity to inflate the market (altough not as easy as in WoW or SWTOR, I admit).
Apperently Anet doesn not mind the rampant inflation of the top-tier items and does not intervene at all.
I think it is mainly because Anet makes money with high prices: people buy more gems to convert to gold when they need to spend 400g on lodestones instead of 200g.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
Items are destroyed when you transmute them with a new skin.
Rares are also destroyed when you sell them to a vendor after you upgraded to exotics.

Your original statement…
>> Check out the buy and sell volumns around
>> the 11th. Silver doubloons went from 3s to 15s.
Now… look at the graph you posted. Look the the left. You will see the actual amount of silver. See it? It is 5. Not 15, 5.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
I cant speculate how much they make from the store but i feel if they dropped the price of gems by 30-50% they would get more money as people would impulse buy.
Maybe. But I’m pretty sure that these prices are set after some serious marketing studies, with peer groups and focus groups and defining different types of players to market too and what not.
If I were them, I would not lower prices on bank slots, because that is pretty much the only item that is worth something.
Setting prices is tricky… they probably follow the sales of each item with nice weekly stats and pie-charts and all.
If they want to make more money, I think they should consider adding town clothes. I don’t know how much the art of those cost, but a pretty outfit always sells.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
I think that everything that is now in the game, will stay in the game.
But rest assured, these drops are EXTREMELY rare, they will not influence your price.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
>> There are hundreds of power traders in the
>> game that make this rate or more.
Hundreds of people making 25g per hour. No. Not gonne happen.
I know a thing or two about game markets. I was one of the first billionaires in SWG. I hit the cap in WoW back when it was 210k.
There are no hundreds of people making 25g per hour in this game. The market simply isn’t there.
Also, there is nothing special about the silver doublon graphic on the 11th. You are simply counting on the fact that no one checks up on your statements…
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
I thought about that too, with all the stuff I got in the bank.
But I doubt this will happen, because all this junk makes you buy more bank slots, which is a major source of income for Anet.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
The gold/gem price will not go down to what it was. The main reason is pretty simple: the higher the gold/gem price, the more people will buy gems with dollars. And that is Anet’s source of income.
The mechanism that they decided on -basing the price on the demand- is very inflatory. In almost any MMO, people get richer and richer, thus driving prices up.
This is what Anet wants. I can’t say I blame them. Someone has to pay the bill.
Maybe there will be a point where it becomes too much. A point where the high gold/gems prices drive people away from the game.
But I do not think that that point has been reached yet. If you look at things from a purely functional point of view, there is only one single item in the store that you ‘need’ in the game: the bank slots. They are 600 gems. They cost about 8g40s at the current rate, about 5 hours of grinding, which is certainly doable for a player.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
If you go to a shop and you see three packages…
1 pie for 5$.
2 pies for 8$.
4 pies for 14$.
For me, these 4 pies are indeed 30% off.
You can not argue that you should count the discount based on the ALREADY DISCOUNTED items, because that is not how any marketing sales does it: you always show the discount from the INITIAL price.
If this insult your intelligence, then please, never do groceries in real life!
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
It’s called marketing, people.
By it’s very definition, it is deceptive.
If you do not know by now that 50% off almost never means that you get the exact same item then the week before for 50% less, you never been to a grocery shop.
Seriously.
1 key = 125 gems = 125 gems per key.
5 keys = 450 gems = 90 gems per key.
25 keys = 1,560 gems = 62.4 gems per key.
To me, saying ‘50% off’ is correct, it is indeed 50% less than the base price: 62.4 instead of 125.
Is it technically correct? Yes. Like all marekting.
Is it honest? No. Like all marketing, it is designed to trick you.
Can you expect black-friday-sales to be honest? No. This is how companies work.

Make sure you have cleared out your pickup tab. There is a limit to how many items you can have there at one time. Until you clear it, newly purchased items and gold from sales will not appear.
Did you actually read the Original Post, the guy clearly states “I have no money in the pick-up tab” that tells me his pick-up tab was empty!
Maybe when you have 100 items in your pick-up line (but no money), the money won’t appear either?
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
Let’s see…
First, you say you make 25g per hour. A statement that I find extremely unlikely.
Then, you claim that ‘you know something others don’t’. Again, very, very unlikely.
You claim to have lost 200g and then won it back on… platinum and silver doubloons which is an extremely tricky market, thir price plummeted then skyrocketed, on very thin sales number. Again, very unlikely.
All talk, talk, talk. When I read the post, I was thinking : ‘why would anyone lie like this’.
But then it became clear… you try to sell something ’’I’ve been buying up chocolate lately because it’s going to 21-25c minimum over the next couple of weeks, which will give me a 50% return. My main problem with the lower value stuff is space, so even though chocolate is a great buy, it’s not that good in terms of the short to mid term space it takes up.’’
So, basically, you are just trying trick people into buying chocolate.
I doubt anyone would fall for it, people aren’t THAT stupid, Mister I-make-25-gold-per-hour.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
Well, obviously, almost everyone will want bank slots. And, to a lesser extent, inventory slots.
But other than that, the gem store doesn’t offer alot of things.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
Confused since the gem trade is directly a cause and effect of supply and demand.
No, it’s not.
- One of the KEY factors of the gem-price in gold is the gem-price in dollars. This is not determined by the players, it is set by Anet.
- Another vital part of the price is what you can buy with the gems from the gem store. It is Anet that decides what items can be bought by gems and thus it is Anet that plays a vital role in the demand for gems.
Saying that the price of gems is purely demand-supply is simply not true.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
I recommend to everyone to convert all your gems into gold because they will loose all of their value these next days
Really?
There will be two effects…
1. People will pay less for those items.
2. More people will buy those items.
You can not determine the effect on the gem-price, because you do not know how many people are involved: it comes down to the question of how many new people will buy gems to buy these reduced items.
You can bet that their marketing departement has hand-picked these items. The goal of these reductions is to sell more gems, plain and simple.
If the Marketing Departement did their job and picked the right items, the demand for gems will go up, not down.

They will never sell for 10g, no.
If you see an item with the follow SELL offers…
4g
4g
5g
5g
6g

7g
10g
10g
20g
And withthe following BUY orders…
1g
1g
1g
2g
2g
2g
3g
3g
3g
3g
3g
… then you can be pretty sure that this item will never sell for 10g.
What I do in cases like this, is put it up for 3.9g and hope for the best!
If that doesn’t sell, then I take it off and sell for 3g.

I agree except for your base statement, that GW2 was not about losers and winners before this event.
It always was that way.
People are able to loot pre-cursors: one lucky loot and BAM, they ‘won’ and everyone else lost.
People are able to get insane luck on the Mystic Forge too: one lucky combine and BAM, they ‘won’ and everyone else lost.
It has always been that way.
In fact, this is the only game that I know where this winner-takes-all principle is so extreem. In most games you have a slow progression towards stuff like legendaries.
Here, people that are lucky get thiers for 200g cheaper…
In short: this game has always had a very, very strong lottery element with much higher gains for the lucky few than in other games.

- If you make another group and restart, you can set it to the rank you want, but the rank can never be higher than the highest rank in the group.
So if you have a group of players that have rank 3, 3, 3, 2 and 4, you can set the rank at either 1 or 2 (but not to rank 3 or 4, because one player has only rank 2).Shouldn’t that be “you can set it to the rank you want, but the rank can never be higher than the LOWEST rank in the group.” ? At least that’s what you explain in the second sentence… Or did I miss something?
It is kinda hard to put in words, hehe. For me, the lowest rank in the group is 1 because everyone finished rank 1!
But yeah, I’ll change it.

That are quests that are around for this weekend only afaik.

Even at 5c per food, this costs you 1.5s plus the 1.4s item from the NPC for one single commendation, for a total of 3s per commendation.

I think that they need to give us some AOE attacks, so that we are usefull in sieges again.
I kinda understand the big nerf that they did (it never felt right to create a phantasm on a wall) but they did not give us anything in return. So now, we have to wait untill some idiot jumps up the wall so that we can pull them down. We only got one single AOE attack (on a 60s CD) so for the rest of the time, we just stand there and wait, wait, wait.

aaaah, that’s also a way to read it.
Why didn’t they just say it will scale to the lowest level a party member reached.
Because the lowest level a party member reached is level 1
They could have cleared it up by giving an example.
When you go with 4 people that did 10 levels and 1 person that did 3 levels, the party can pick what level they want to do, but only up to level 3.
So, expect LFG ads with stuff like ‘Rank 10 required’ or so.

is most of the time the most obvious answer to find event related info.
but maybe thats to obvious to think about? lol
Yeah, but that is only for the events.
It seems like the 4 different new things where added by 4 different teams and all 4 communicated differently
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
This weekend, five new things come to GW2. I made this post to give the info all in one place…
1. Three one-time events (finished).
2. The new PvE dungeon (permanent).
3. The new PvE map (permanent).
4. Weekend Quests (continuously until monday noon).
5. The new PvP map (permanent).
.
.
1. Three one-time events (finished).
- There were 3 seperate one-time events, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday noon.
- Everyone was scaled to level 80 for these.
- The first two events started in Lion’s Arch, the third in Sunset Cove.
- In the first, we had to repel the Karka attack on Lion’s Arch.
- In the second, we had to repel the last few Karka’s in Lion’s Arch and then go to Sunset Cove to establish a foothold there.
- In the third, we killed the big, mean Karka!
- The timing of the events were chosen because this were the times that there were the most people online together.
.
.
2. The new PvE dungeon (permanent).
- The new PvE dungeon called Fractals of the Mist is for level 80 characters. But during the weekend, all players will be bumped to level 80.
- This dungeon opened on Friday 11/16 at 12:30 (but was bugged for some, fixed at 13:30).
- You can go there by going into the new Asuran Portal near the Island Portage Waypoint in Lion’s Arch, by the new POI Consortium’s Gift Shop.
.
- There are 9 different ‘paths’ or ‘fractals’ in this dungeon.
- You can’t choice what fractal you do, but you can leave a fractal when you are stuck on it and get another one.
- After you did a fractal, you are send to a second and then a third fractal. These three fractals are always different fractals (afaik).
- After you did the third fractal, your ‘rank’ goes up to rank 2.
- You are sent again to a fractal (so the forth in total), a fifth fractal and a sixth. These fractals are rank 2.
- The fractals on this second set can be the same as the ones on your first set.
.
- After you finished any fractal, you get a chest that contains items and 5 Fractal Relics.
- You can turn these relics in for stuff, at the NPC inside the dungeon.
.
- When you are finished with the four fractals at rank 2, you are now rank 3!
- When you then restart the dungeon with the same group, you can pick what rank you want to do it: rank 1, 2 or 3.
- If you make another group and restart, you can set it to the rank you want, but the rank can never be a higher rank than the person with the lowest rank in the group has obtained.
So if you have a group of players that have rank 3, 3, 3, 2 and 4, you can set the rank at either 1 or 2 (but not to rank 3 or 4, because one player has only rank 2).
.
- After you did six fractals (three at rank 1 and three at level 2), you get a seventh ‘bonus’ fractal.
- This bonus fractal is the same type as the other fractals, with the same chest at the end, but you get an extra reward too!
- Note that these fractals are NOT easy for casual players, even ast rank 1, because you need alot of group coördination. Several bosses have odd mechanisms, there is sometimes tricky jumping, some gates that open with pressure plates and so on.
.
.
3. The new PvE map (permanent).
- The new PvE map called Southsun Cove is for level 80 characters, but during the weekend lower levels will be bumped to level 80 when they go here.
- You can go there by talking to a new NPC near the Sanctum Harbor Waypoint in Lion’s Arch, by the new POI Macha’s Landing.
- Once you’ve been there, you can waypoint to it, like with all other maps.
.
.
4. Weekend Chain Event (Finished).
- The first part of the chain started Friday noon and was available until Sunday noon.
- The second part started Saturday noon.
- Both parts started in Lion’s Arch at Inspector Kiel.
.
.
5. The new PvP map (permanent).
- This map opened on Thursday 11/15.
- Not much else to say, really! It’s a PvP map. A map. To PvP on!
.
.
Good luck and remember to have fun along the way!!!

Actually any data presented by anyone is skewed to begin with. That is their attempts and their RNG. This will never transpose to anyone elses chances at RNG, that is a fact. What happens with one person WILL NOT happen to another to any noticable degree which would allow people making nifty charts to say “this is the way things are.”
A sample of 3,300 salvages is big enough for the rate to be correct, imho.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
Yes. It has been asked repeatedly.
In the mean time, there is a workaround, maybe not the best one, but still…
- Go to http://www.gw2spidy.com
- Search for the item
- Next to the stats, you will find the text [Link ingame]
- Paste that code in your chat in GW2.
- Send a 1s fee to Tallisi in-game (optional).
Voila! You got a preview!!
As I said, certainly not as good as a direct TP link, but you might want to use it to make sure you got the right item before you ploink down 5g or so!
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.

Yes, it’s PvE, but the mad king zones was also PvE and also upscaled you to 80.

Apperently, it changes alot with your level. For all those DPS-guides out there, you need to be a high level to get all the important traits, else your DPS is much, much, much lower than in the guides.
So, the answer to your question depends on what level you are now.

I occasionally see SELL orders below venor price.
That should be old orders from the beginning of the TP. They need to clean those up, they are very, very annoying
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
I think that someone who exploited the game is now laughing his/hers kitten off now. Just to put such an order you need aroung 190g, so yeah… Good for him. And most likely, nothing bad will happen to him/her.
You do not need to pay a 5% fee to put in an order. You need to pay the whole amount.
Unless it is a double bug, first where you can put a buy order for non-tradeble items and second where you don’t have to pay the money in advance.
Me think this is a fogotten item from exploiters that use the TP to shift money back and forth.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
Looks like people are trying manipulate the market.
Small fangs are the same price as Fangs. and other Small Materials are close to the price.Server Darkhaven.
Usually, I never ‘shoot the messenger’ and try to react on the message itself.
But it is hard to believe stories of market manipulation from someone that mentioned the server with the TP screenshot, because it indicates that that person doesn’t even know that the TP is game-wide and not server-wide, one of the basic principles of the TP.
If you do not know the basics of TP, your reports of market manipulation are not very credible.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
As an anecdote, the prices already went really high the day before Halloween which I’m guessing people “thought” would be the last day these skins were available in the chests. That day, the majority of the listings for every skin were bought out in the course of only a few hours which was crazy. I kind of expect that to happen again tomorrow??
Odd, that is not what I see on the TP. Not on http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/36340
The greatsaw skin currently costs 28g, the shield skin 19g95s.
Always carries a towel – Never panics – Eats cookies.
What are the greatsaw prices now? I’m at work.

Euh… how can you say that adding a new tier of gear is NOT an addition of a gear treadmill?
What else is it then?
It is what it is: they added a new tier of gear, that you must get to do the new end-game-content.
Don’t cover it up and say that it is something else.
The fact that they don’t add all the new tier items in the game at once does not make it anything else then what it is: a new tier of gear.
And this is regarlessly of the infusion stat. If the infusion stat is like -10 agony, then you do not need to grind out the infusion, but you will still need to grind out the new pieces for the extra stats.
If the infusion is like +10 health regeneration, well, then you will have to grind out the infusion too.
But no matter what, you will always have to grind an extra tier.
