Could you please leave the stuff that actually works alone, thanks.

I mean it, just because you do not like it because it does not make 5 diggit numbers appear on your screen does not mean it is bad.

you really seem to misunderstand what most players want.

DB isn’t supposed to be a hit-truck skill for us, or give us immortality.
We want to rework it so it’ll be useful, and would allow some combinations in battle.
Because currently it’s better to use Heartseeker on target with 100% hp than DB.

Gold is meaningless in this game. All my level 80s are decked out in exotics and my 2 mains are partially decked out in ascended as well. All this from running 1 or 2 dungeons maybe once a week and usually just playing WvW. There are tons of other currencies available to get what you need/want. Hell, my guardian was completely decked out in exotic armors and runes from the TP for less than 5 gold.

What would you need gold for anyway? The good looking skins are all grind fests if you want to get them rather than simply purchasing with gold (dungeon armors, crafted legendaries). What else is there left to get?

if you do hearts on maps, and have a bit of karma, you can buy a really nice skins. I don’t mean some showy pinky winky shiny skins, but a normal good looking well presenting skins which you can mix with others and have a really nice effect.
I personally dislike the current shop skin sets, and I would not buy them – they need to put really something nice there.

But like I said, skins from low levels can be mixed and you can get a really good looking output. Especially where the palette of dyes is huge, and you are not bound to one color per part.

Like you have said – you can gear you other chars in full exotic gear in less than 5g.

Is it really hard to get 5g? For me it’s 2 Tequatl runs.

Specs considered OP by non thief players:

- Pistol Whip (got its own thread in SPVP subforum
- D/P “permastealth”
- S/D “ultimate duelist”
- Shortbow
- D/D CnD
- stolen skill Whirling Axe
- stealth
- Sleight of Hand

P/D will be the next meta if these things get nerfed, and will be more irritating than any other spec in this game to fight against

I have yet to see so much QQ about perplex Engineers than D/P.
Seems like 15 stacks of confusion isn’t as powerful as any thief build.

Pressure? From ESO? ESO is not a threat.

Yep, but most MMOs will lose some players to ESO for the first month because there are players that will go try the new hot MMO that was just released. They’ll do the whole “blaze through the content in record time before the first free month is done” and then return to whatever game they came from.

it’ll end up like with Diablo III fever.

In the end people will say with embarrassment that it was their worst game investment of the year, just like with D3 :v

Gaming mouse for gw2

Tao.5096

If you’re already considering a gaming mouse, why would you still have a skill bound to 8? Rebinding your keyboard goes a long way in increasing your effectiveness. (12345tgvqe with wasd all day)

On topic I just use an AJazz 3 button, was $15, looks cool as kitten too. Blue LED’s match my case.

considering the best configuration with fastest and easiest access to skills and utilities of your character.

1,2,3,4
Q,E,R,T
Z,X,C,V
Alt+1,Alt+2,Alt+3,Alt+4

but if it was me, I would bind Auto Attack to LMB and make target system bit semi-aim like in Neverwinter Online.

GW2 isn’t a game like TERA or Aion where you have a palette of 50 skills which you need to have an easy access to since they’re vital.

I’m not saying that Naga is bad or w/e. Those gaming sets can give you a every nice gaming experience by binding your skills properly and going with the flow, but sometimes it’s not necessary.

OP seem to not really have played many MMORPG games.
Compared to other MMOs, GW2 introduced so far the quickest leveling to max and gearing up properly.
I did play couple of grindy and with a really rng + luck based games which could drive me crazy, and I’ve seen loads of people to rage quit due to rng trolling them daily.

Just like WatchTheShow.7203 said.
Aion is a perfect example of rng and bit of grindy thing.
Could make a stories for campfire trips how people raged and quitted due to rng beating them in socketing gear or enchantments.

Could point out Lineage 2 as well, where people finally got the best weapon they farmed for so long and it did end up being destroyed because enchanting failed.

Guild Wars 2 drop system, leveling system, gear system and raid system at this moment is much more player friendly than any game previously could ever have.

Regarding gold – really, in every MMO, in every game, if you want to get top notch stuff you have to pay for it, and it’s not cheap. Either you pay with your time battling vs rng drop rate in instances or vs certain bosses, or you purchase it from broker.
I have yet to see a guy with 200 ascend greatswords or staffs giving them out to every random level 80, or for symbolic 5 gold.

Same goes for crafting. Crafting shouldn’t be easy. Especially when you’re aiming for the best weapon/gear available currently in game.
You know what’s even funnier.
After playing Aion, and being used to such rng craft as in there, I’m pretty much happy with current craft available in GW2, as you have a 100% chance to craft an item and it takes a couple of mins to recraft 1k materials unlike in Aion where you would spend around an hour.

I’m not saying that GW2 is the best, and go full wannabe over it, but don’t turn pros into cons because you want it to be even easier than it already is :/

I wouldn’t personally compare ESO to GW2 or any other MMO, since it’s very different.
As I am myself a fan of The Elder Scrolls series, I will not participate in MMO world of TES, because I personally believe that TES should never ever hit MMO genre.

GW2 just like any other mmo is unique in it’s own way, but I see no point in saying – hey, ESO is better than GW2.
OMG this is better than GW2. WoW > GW2. etc etc.
For what is this said?
I know loads of people who were playing certain MMOs for 3 years. Awaited something new, jized their pants, flamed this mmo for w/e reason – after the new MMO release, they came back 3 months later.

And I’ll bet even 10bucks, that loads of people who will say bye to GW2 cause of Wildstar, ESO or any other new MMO, will come back here, and will say that the things they did hate before they left, are quite nice and enjoyable.

If you want to invest time in something, get a Bachelor’s Degree. Playing video games is wasting time, not investing it. If they shut down the servers tomorrow, your entire “investment” in the game is gone. If this is a concern for you, the only thing you can do about it is be more careful where you invest your resources.

not really.

If someone is planning to sell something in the future, like account or game or w/e, he’ll have to invest time. So he’s going to sell his time which was invested for something.

But if someone’s playing games for a simple entertainment and enjoy it, then it’s spending time on it.

Wasting time is when you do something out of boredom and you have negative feelings or none at all.

So yes, we’re spending time on playing something we like, just like there are people spending their time catching butterflies because they like it.

I forgot. If I ever new in the first place, which I’m not sure I did.

They’re going to have to tell us something at the absolute latest by the end of March. That’s when the Living Story ends and at the moment all we know about future plans is that at some point there will be a feature-only update with no new content. They’re going to have to say something else to keep players looking forward to what’s coming.

that doesn’t mean it’s good as well.
If devs will announce that let’s say in 6 months, there will be some major update with some cool stuff and cool system, won’t that make hundreds of new threads begging and threatening them to do it now and implement it now?
It will, because it’s a common sight on almost every mmo game forum.

there is a variety of traits and their trees for group support as in buffing up with might, rage or swiftness. Also buffs with hp regen.

I see no point in nerfing zerk builds since they have their own cons, and just because there is plenty of people who didn’t realize yet that zerk build means, sacrificing defense for power, then I’m sorry but who’s at fault here? Also, pvp in 1v1 isn’t supposed to take half a day of running one after another across the whole map or until zerg will come and trample you or your opponent.

Considering your idea for hp drain on maps – no thank you.
It does favor range classes, and Necro would be the biggest troll here.

Also I understand that MMO is a type of game which is supposed to be played by many players together, but I don’t like your zerg encouraging.

And you idea is mostly focusing on perma creating a situation where people go pvp at least in 2 people party.

Don’t know how majority looks like here, but there are loads of players who prefer to go alone most of the time.

Also real danger is environment – I agree that we should pay attention to our surroundings but I don’t want GW2 to turn into 2nd Aion kitten pvp level where it turns out that environment hits harder than players in pvp zone….

I’m not complaining at your idea, but I’m pointing out the cons if such system would be introduced. Maybe it would work out if major cons wouldn’t hit players that much.

Instant trait reset gemstore item: P2W?

I think there are two types of Pay 2 Win.

Soft P2W: Games like GW2 and NW that have advantages also obtainable via in game currency

Hard P2W: Games like AoC, where without paying you can not win end game content.

NW – you can exchange ingame currency into shop currency
GW2 – same thing

i.e. you can obtain shop items w/o spending a penny out of your wallet in game.
Also, both shops don’t have even p2w items that boost you up heavily beyond normal player.
NW tho differ since it’s f2p anyway – and Cryptic studio does a good job maintaining ingame balance between ingame items and shop items.

In GW2 the only thing that would be p2w would be boosters….but really? I get them from daily/monthly rewards too, and they’re free.

Mining/harvesting tool – I can’t imagine someone not being able to purchase gathering tools out of merchant :/

Okay, they have some customizable items, remodel skins etc, but hey.
It doesn’t affect game experience and yet we treat it as donating developer team and maintaining servers which aren’t cheap.

so yeah, your comparison is good but I really don’t see any GW2 shop item even as soft p2w.
Maybe if they would add Level up Tomes.

Question is: why would GW2 has anything from GW1? Except some Lore continuation?

If GW2 would have same skills, plenty of the same stuff that GW1 had, then it wouldn’t be GW2. Or even if they called it, it would be a joke.
It would be just a remastered GW1 with new engine.

Thief OP?

in Thief

Posted by: Tao.5096

Tao.5096

After reading only Thief section today, which is filled mostly with hate from people who play other classes I can tell that disease from other MMOs sure has infected whole world.
Few resisted tho.

3/4 of the people didn’t even touch thief probably.

They have noticed the increase of thieves and believe that this class is supposed to be a war fooder. Free kill, training dummy.
Despite the fact that Thief has the lowest HP pool, is the squishiest – yes, even Mesmer which is cloth armor based class is tougher.
And somehow, all I do read is that – thief is OP because it has this, and that, and maybe this and that.
Fine, it does have it. It does have stealth abilities it has some nice utility skills and has nice elite skills, and so what? That doesn’t change the fact that thief can’t rush head on like a tank and hammer down anything on it’s way.
In every game, an assassin/thief/rouge class is the squishiest, the easiest to kite and the most predictable from all other and it’s main damage comes from surprise and attacks from the back.

Nah, I’m lying, full bs, right, can’t be, look at Thief here.

Thief has awesome dps and skills with D/D – really?

Death Blossom – It’s a skill that is somehow….the most useless.
It’s a 3 hit based skill /- can avoid 2/3 of them w/o problem
- condition bleed /- can I laugh now?
- 3/4 Evade /- I’ll rather roll
- it costs 4 Initiative /- only 4? wooow

Dancing Dagger – for me it’s 50/50
- it does damage /- really? I hope it doesn’t hurt
- cripple effect 3sec /- that’s kind of useful if we want to catch someone….but isn’t heartseeker better?
- cost 4 initiative /- cut it by half and it’ll be worth an effort

Cloak and Dagger – good skill but it has a flaw which is called “I know what you’re doing”
- damage /- same or similar to heartseeker <50%, not bad
- 3% of vulnerability /- lovely
- cost 6 initiative /- skill itself is good so I understand such heavy cost >.>
- Stealth 4 sec /- and here it’s where stairs begin.

Stealth for 4 seconds seem to be plenty, cool, OP, blablabla.
But 90% of people forget that thief is a hugger – range of all dagger skills: 130, that’s almost kissing your opponent.
Experienced Opponent who will notice that you did CnD will quickly roll twice or aoe hammer you to floor, before you’ll manage to sneak on his back. Or will pop some defensive boons and will be ready for self heal.

What I did notice mostly in fights is that melee and ranged classes really don’t pay attention to what D/P Thief is doing.
Sometimes I believe they’re closing their eyes, smashing keyboard with crossed fingers and praying for luck that it’ll work.
Why no one is using auto attack to get rid of blind till Thief will stop eventually using it and then use major skills?
Why people playing other classes do stuff vice versa?

I don’t really understand this kind of behavior that people keep spam that Thief is OP, while in fact, it can be taken out with a bit of thinking and calculations.
CnD is predictable.
BP – if you’re a melee and keep standing in BP and complain that this skill is OP – reroll ranger please.

And looking at other classes – they really have no skills, no ways to defend themselves from Thieves?
Is it really that impossible to deal with thief as any other class?

And what’s so noob about D/P build?
Is it really so noob because warrior won’t hit a thief like a truck on a highway and knock down for 2 seconds straight away?
Or because we have to use autoattack first to remove blind and kite around so we won’t die?

So I guess it’s a noob way to use D/P to increase Thieves survivability which is very low anyway.

May someone fill me in how GW2 is grind based?

I’ve probably spent 100 hours in ascalon + fz for the sole purpose of grinding for gold and different exo gears for all my chars by completing all 3 paths over and over again. Not going to do whatever is necessary for uprading all that into ascended gear. Speaking of, leveling my 3rd char already felt like a chore, necessary in order to have a valid character.

If I hadn’t done this, what would be left? Grinding archievements? A little PvP (not that much into it)? An open raid once in a while? Totally not worth 100 hours.

The grind doesn’t take as long as compared to other games, but it is still one of the most important game aspects. Trust me, I recognize a grind when I see one – based on the experience of approximately 10000 hours of RO (most of it spent on achieving VP with a single character for everyone who’s unclear on what this means).

It’s true that you can enjoy the world of GW2 ingenuously if you let go of this archievement-mentallity. Unfortunatly this made me lose have the motivation to play the game.

There is difference between optional and trivial. And without a longterm motivation the content becomes trivial. Every other genre goes with improvements in player skill as a long-term motivation. MMORPG apparently go with grinds. GW2 only made their longterm motivation trivial- not optional, because they didn’t implement a real option.

no offence, but 100 hours for gathering mats for crafting end game stuff isn’t much which I assume are rare materials. And yet you have a 100% chance for successful output.
And I’m asking what’s grind like in gw2 because I don’t really see anything grindy based here, except achievements which may be done out of boredom.

Still, game is more player friendly than most of the other MMOs.
And by player friendly I mean that you don’t really need to spend so many hours a week to get the top stuff so it does let you survive.

Here I can point out Lineage 2, which was grindy and there was a chance of destruction of your gear and weapon upon failed enchanting, Aion The Tower of Eternity which had rng in every single pixel of the game(which also should get an award for mass rage, frustration and rageQuit) and since certain patch, forced any player to grind for newest and best gear possible, etc etc.

here is a funny part because devs stay in contact with playerbase and playerbase one way or another has an influence what will be next in game or how the system will change – at least a partial influence.
And that’s what you pretty much can’t see in other games.

Leveling isn’t grindy – you don’t have quests which make you – kill 50 mobs, here, kill 50 mobs there, kill 50 mobs everywhere, and so on till max level.
I solely am leveling thanks to some karma events, gathering and doing vista’s, poi and skill challenges. Even hearts don’t make you grind mobs – plenty of other ways to get influence for that area quest.

Another aspect is that you make whatever kind of build your imagination allow with any class you want.
Doubt any other MMO game allows that, because in most cases, if you’ll try do that, you’re capped in many ways and pretty much useless.

So as summary, I can assume that people believe that spamming some Dunegons and running across all maps for materials for crafting may look grindy, but if we’ll look at other games – it is nowhere near.

Also, have to keep in mind that West MMO games, despite the fact they differ from pure Korean games and their 24/7 in-game mindset, Developer can’t make us get top notch stuff by spending only 50~100 hours in game, because game will get boring soon after we’ll get it or would need to release new content more frequently, which is not easy.
And I know that balancing it is difficult as well.

@Tao,there arn’t enough people playing spvp for anet to start dividing them up into ranks ,like rank 10 will only fight against 10 – 20 ranks etc.Its impossible for them to do so with such a low pvp playerbase.

that sucks. I know loads of people did quit spvp due to boredom and half kitten queue matching.

Maybe Anet should make a 3v3 and 1v1 matches as well? With proper rank range as well.

piece of advice

Don’t allow other people to tell you what to do with your own life.

And apply that in game societies as well.

So that means I should go, “the kitten with logical meta. I’m going back to D/D because it’s purdy”

o.o

no, just do w/e you want.

Use whatever build you want, play however you want as long as it’s legal.

The attack is two-phased:

  • The pistol-whipping stuns but deals less damage than the subsequent slashes and is single target. You can still move while performing this phase of the attack.
  • During the subsequent cleaving sword attacks, the user evades attacks, but cannot move while attacking. Attempting to move after this attack has started will end the attack. The evasion window lasts for between 1.25-1.5s.

I would rather say – it’s disturbing how unbalanced the teams can get.
pvp ranks differ way too much.
Where for example, I had a team of 10+ ranks, 20+ ranks vs 40+ 50+ ranks.

Someone may say that rank doesn’t matter at all, but in fact it represents some kind of experience here like – battle, survival, class knowledge and map knowledge.
