I actually think the leveling changes for a NEW player, are ok. the problem is, they’ve forced these on every new character, rather than only on new accounts, 1st character,

That was a bad choice imo, and I’d like that be changed.

Let me get this straight, does this vote on leveling include the fact that the starter zones have been gutted with most of their heart/events mechanics removed?

probably not.

That is indeed another disappointment.

Isn’t that a skill point challenge?

Are skillpoint challenges now disabled at level 7?

yes, as many posts have said they are locked til lv15. Because it’s “too confusing” for new players.

I mean I remember not being able to beat them at low level, but I just assumed thats because you were meant to do it with others. And so, I asked for others to help.
This is how I’ve treated skill points since.

but I guess, the poor players cant fail skill points now, it must be demoralising or something, so they’re locked out from them until they’re faceroll.

Quite honestly if they just unlock utility earlier, most people might even like it.

We’ll level faster 1-15. And we get to unlock utility at the same time.

the last vote with only 2 option have 83% people like it and 17% don’t. I think most people fit the I don’t like it, but it don’t bother me too much, so if they make slight adjustment…

I’m only bothered because the utility is pushed back… The trait thing bothered me already before.

Actually the utility doesnt bother me, its the lack of vistas/poi/gathering nodes and skill challenges.

If these are acc.unlocks, and jut limited on the first char, than its fine. but if they are limited on ALL new characters, than it is certainly not ok.

I like to be able to get my skill points asap.

Vistas, Gathering Nodes are not locked, they merely aren’t on the map. I don’t know about POI. Skill challenges were probably a good move, I know I couldn’t reliably clear combat ones until I was well over-leveled on them anyway.

I tended to do skill challenges with friends………….. they are locked unti..lv10, I believe.

and I know ..but why not show them on the map, if it’s an a new alt…rather than a first char?

I want to be able to SEE them, so I can go do what I want, like I would on my higher leveled chars.
and gathering nodes don’t show up til a certain level either, as far as I know, they’re not just hidden on the mini map, they’re non existent.

Like I said, I’d be ok with the changes, for the FIRST character. But its very annoying for alts. And unnecessary. Anet should’ve added something, so that this wouldn’t be so annoying for veteran players.

Split veterans and Metrics-newbs

Anet needs to find a way ..for ‘first character = all these limits’
Second character = less limits. (basically, all vistas, wp’s, skillpoints, nodes show… but the skill unlocks with levels, that would have to stay the same. )

CJo has already stated that this was supposed to be the case for many of the gated features.

but they havent told us what features are account unlocks and whats character based.

It would be ok, if we knew whats what, and that they are working on the bugs, but that “this is how it’s supposed to work”.

For those still Key Farming

in Black Lion Trading Co

Taygus.4571

I don’t do my key farming for profit.
I never have.
Money I make off it is just a bonus.
I do it when I want to play and have no guild mates around to do other stuff with, or while my wife’s at work so we’re not at different places in the game.
It’s a relaxation to me.
And I find it better now that the 20 minute runs are over, because at least in having to level to 10 to open personal story, I can make a farmer of any race, with any story and be just as fast as I am still rolling a human commoner. Adds a little variety, y’know? Human was my favorite race, but after key farming for a year and a half, I’m glad to be anything but, and still get it done in a fair time.

This,
I’ll still be key farming.

a run used to take 40min….now it’ll take 2hours.

But thats ok, only did it when I wasnt sure what I wanted to do anyway.

kitten?? Who thought this was a good idea?

I don’t mind weapon locks really, ….it’s just dragged out a little. But locking out actual experience gains.

So players have to like walk around a map twice? (as if mapping per alt, wasn’t bad enough ….)

So can’t just create a character and just map the towns for transmutation stones anymore. Got to level first.
Anet is doing their best to make it very hard/long to farm gemstore items it seems.

though I really don’t understand the gathering and skill challenege lock.

well people complained about leveling too quickly in this game and not feeling progress while you leveled. Fixes both problems…lol..while also being extremely borring and annoying.

I was getting vistas and POIs from level 2. They just don’t show on the map.

they still count then?/get experience for them? can you finish say LA and get map reward at the end?

I have no idea if you can finish the LA map, but I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to. You can walk through the gate, certainly cause I did. And I did get both POIs and vistas. Yeah it should work.

I’d have to test it.

If you can still map, then it’s no so bad. Wish anet could make the game know the difference between someones first character and second.
Have all these limits on the first, but not an alts.

If you’re in business, let me ask you this question.

Do you have any idea of how many players started the game and never got past level 10 or 15? Because it doesn’t matter that the players that are playing the game did it, that’s obviously true. The question is how many people tried and walked away early? Without that answer, we don’t know if this makes sense or not.

Something tells me the number of “new” players that didn’t make it past level15 is going to rise greatly. We’re already seeing posts stating that a “new” player has deleted their toon and won’t be back till changes are made and other posts from “veteran” players stating they will not recommend GW2 to anyone now because of the changes made yesterday.

Well, I’m not talking about new players who had the old system and had this sudden change (we should have all been grandfathered in), I’m talking about new players who have never played the game.

See that’s the real issue. Anet has run a few free weekends. What if they didn’t like the new player uptake from those weekends What if they’d like to run more weekends but it’s not worth the work if more new players don’t sign on.

The reaction of someone who had the old system and now has this system could be very different from someone who’s never seen any system.

Games get dumbed down, particularly early parts of the game, for very good reason. WoW did this as well with their starting areas.

Vayne, I am one of those players who took longer to get the hang of the game. I remember trying out a skill point and getting killed very quickly. I was confused at that and just moved on.
I however noticed they were much easier when multiple players took on said skill point.

and started asking in map for help.

It’s not that confusing. I don’t know anyone who complained about the heart in queensdale, and how feeding the cows was really difficult.

I was someone who never noticed the crops however until many key farms later. Still, I don’t think the heart change would make me notice the crops more. I found the bucket of water just fine, just never paid attention to the withered plants.(they don’t really look like anything, tbf. ) It did not however take me long to run past a bag with F, pick it up, run around, cross a cow and notice “Feed-F”
Do you know anyone who couldn’t figure that out?

Some of these changes are really really strange.

I can't possibly recommend this game anymore

Total: 308g62s50c
Listing Fee: 15g43s13c

before, they had just the listing fee and expected return (total – final sale tax)
now they have all but the expected profit
maybe the next update they’ll have all of them?

Lol.

People complained about expected profit not showing all fees. Anet took that to mean, we weren’t happy to have expected profit calculated for us.

Who weren’t happy? I was perfectly happy, i don’t have time to waste calculating something they showed me previously.

the projected profit was incorrect.
rather than anet fixing it to be correct, they chose to just show both fees. What people wanted was the projected profit to be correct.

The business model is fine but still relies heavily upon retaining players and keeping the game viably populated and thus financially sustainable.

ANet needs to stop fracking with things that aren’t actually broken (look to April’s Trait System as a good example)

Adding cool and aesthetically appealing things to the in-game store would be a lot better for the health of the game then adding more content hurdles and further compartmentalization of playerbase.

ANet should not “stay the course” if it’s headed in the wrong direction. And while I applaud the much needed and LONG desired trading post improvements; such positives are quickly undermined by fundamentally deplorable game progression changes that are ruining the game’s already beleaguered replayability.

The trait changes destroyed much of the appeal for rolling new characters and created a desert out of the leveling experience of the game.

I’d personally like for them to stop taking things out of the store. Every time I have money to spend the item I want is gone. Literally. The gathering tools, certain weapons of popular npc’s. The daggers I wanted for my Necromancer are now gone they are the green ones with tentacles. Was going to get those and the tentacle backpack for my Necro would have looked awesome!

deposit gems, when you have money, for the next time the items come back. They ALWAYS come back.

Anet should keep the b2p model, except….they should also add a subscription for the hardcore players. Everything should stay the same as it is now for those who only want B2P. That includes newer content in the future.

However, if you CHOSE to pay the $15 a month subscription, then you can earn 200% more gold, karma, and laurels from anything that gives those currencies. You should also get a 40% discount on everything in the gem store at all times. And at the end of each month you should get a free Black Lion Ticket. I use the percentages to make my point; I’m sure my math isn’t right.

The idea is to avoid P2W, or the pressure that you must pay to get all the cool stuff. Instead, the mindset should be that for those who really want more content and love the game can offer a way to support a constant cash flow for Anet while being compensated with what I mentioned. That way subscribers get a little more love for their rewards, but not exclusivity.

Everybody wants more content, because this game is awesome! For the haters of subscriptions, think about all the Chinese players…the Asian market is much more open to subscription than the Western! Just imagine the profits Anet! Are you hiring?

Disappointed by the leveling experience

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Taygus.4571

I was simply doing as was advised by my guild after being frustrated with how slow I was levelling. When things are changed up with this levelling patch, when ever it arrives, I suspect I will take things much slower and get to know the game more intimately, but as it stands I was informed that, and I quote “the game doesn’t really start until you hit 80” so yes, I wanted to reach 80 quickly.

bad advice on their part.

game starts at level 2.

I always chip in when I see guildies suggest this. Should never tell new players to eotm. It’s a very very boring leveling experience.

It’s far better to take your time. Doing dungeons at the appropriate level is fine. Just start your own group. It will fill. (though some paths fill easier than others.)
Do what you enjoy, you don’t really need to do hearts or full map completion. I ran around completing a few maps, and then I just went chasing waypoints and doing events I came across.
I played WvW at level60 for a bit. (but having less traits now, is really noticeable in there.)

You are already able to play the way you want…………..
Adding a subscription with “bonus” gems? would make people feel forced into it. This is exactly what I don’t want. And steer clear of games that make me feel that way.

You want to change this thing…that you can already do???
You just need to pick a date, and add 10$ into the game, every month, ta-da, sub.

Or, I could have $14.95 automatically come out of my account every month. No worry about a date and forgetting and no accumulating things I may not need. Ta-da, sub.

I support a sub that might give me the things I want. What about a boost to magic find for those who sub? What about any subtle little boost that might make it worth it, while at the same time not changing the game for you?

I am not for a p2w model in any way. I am for playing the way I want to and you playing the way you want to. If I like having little boosts or whatnot that enhances my gaming experience for me, why is this wrong?

I do think anet may want to add a sub for say 10 or 20$ every month, of gems bought.

Then what you do with those gems, is up to you. That way you don’t have to “think” about.

However, a sub, to give the boosts in the way you suggest. NO. I am not ok with that.

Buy your MF boost with gems.

Kick* What is the meaning of loyalty?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

in my opinion, generally speaking… any guild that wants 100% rep is not worth joining.

Pretty much. I responded to a guild ad that required 100% rep and asked why. Was told it was to “promote a friendly and close community”. I said if I was already in a guild with friends, then I wouldnt be able to do stuff with them. Their “solution”? Invite them to the guild. And do stuff with the guild. Doesnt seem like a very friendly and close community if I have to either leave my friends, or bring them into a large guild in order to have fun.

I may be able to shed some light onto this.

The influence cost of buffs, compared to the rate of earning it, encourages mega guilds over smaller closer knit guilds (I don’t really like the 500 cap myself, I don’t actually know half my guildies, which frankly sucks.)

My guild does allow for exceptions for quite a lot of things too though. Also we don’t even kick non reppers, we just leave them at a special low rank, and boot them if we need space. But i’ve been in many guilds that seemed like there was someone waiting to insta-kick me if i wanted to use my private guild bank in a town. It really was annoying.

They consider even a personal bank as betray ,why?childish, selfish or tyranny?
I think maybe i need to keep guildless play for many guilds like them.

Because they’re a crap guild?

I avoid 100rep guilds.
One thing since my first guild I check is that the “100% rep” isn’t expected.

For one reason. I key farm alot and often forget to rep the guild.

I would like to maybe eventually join a specifically WvW guild for when I want to play that side.

I don’t want to be annoyed if I choose to join a temporary guild for something or other.

For the most part I will rep. But I don’t want it to be expected, feck that. If they’re a good enough guild, you’ll rep, just because you want to.

I got one from a mob while mapping orr. (actually ended up with a key from the map completion too XD..)
And long before that, I was farming mobs in southsun for bloods and I got a key.

They are a very very rare drop.
mind, I’d say less rare than a pre :P

"Store in Wardrobe"

But… when i have a consumable skin, that requires no trans charges, and i use “store in wardrobe” it doesnt mean it will store it, but unlock the skin, and lose the “free trans charge” …
whereas if i have that item in my bag, there appears a separate section in the wardrobe only for those consumable skins i have in my bag. Shouln’t it be stored there, without taking inventory slots?

It would be nice if they did this, but as far as I know, at least you get a warning.

The store in wardrobe is badly named.

I’d rather they made it so, I can receive heals that my allies use . ):

Not all necros, use siphons, making that a bad place to start for general use.

Allow a necro to benfit from ally healing, and maybe something of their own. But start with group play. Since it’s group synergy we suffer in.

Stop BLK Farm & fix Keys/Chests!

Keys should just be rare drops, just like dyes should. I think the game has just taken a very bad turn by locking everything in the Gem Store (I already made a thread on that here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/The-Gem-Store-It-has-contaminated-GW2/page/3#post4369483)

If keys started dropping from monsters, even if they were a rare drop, there would be less reason to do the key farm. People would just continue playing the game again. Also, lower the price of keys along with it. The chance of getting something good from the BLC’s is unfairly low, so the least they could do is make the keys really cheap.

Look, if someone didn’t bought it until 5th BDay, why not? If you did not done that before…
It doesn’t really give you mutch. An Elite skill slot annoys me a bit, that Mist Wolf summon, but wouldn’t use it mutch anyway. And the rest of things are just time limited.

AN never really knew how to reward the players well (nor to communicate lore & details within the game), but nvm, what I’m trying to say is that if someone didn’t bought a thing for looooong time, it’s clearly that he doesn’t value it enough to pay its price. Why not just give it to him then and make the connection between AN & Player more kind/friendly.

Because it’s unfair to those who have paid.

If he doesn’t deem it worth spending cash on, then he doesn’t have to get it.

I never like to buy things outside of sales, so I will not pick this up unless it comes on sale.
But if it does come on sale, I’ll get it!

What’s stopping you putting 10 or 20$ per month on gems?

I don’t understand this thinking.

“I want a subscription” but won’t buy gems monthly.

It simply allows me to play the way I want to.

There is nothing in the gem store I want. I could convert to gold, but again something I don’t want to do.

If I was paying a sub I would have no problem taking any bonus gems I may get and converting them to gold. At that point the gems are just a side effect of the sub. I already have the unlocks I want on my account.

It’s just a choice one can make. Just like you have the choice to say no if you want to. There are games that do this now.

RIFT
Lord of the rings
ArchAge (will)

So the model does work. It’s about choice and why should we not be free to make that choice? Some would pay and net the game some monthly income, some would not.

"Downed State" frightening for new players?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I found the down state confusing.

I used to cycle through all my skills.
(tbf, I did this with all my skills, rather than figuring out, that eaxh skill have better/worse times to use them etc. )

I never played a game with anything like this mmo. And I didn’t figure out/understand the differences in skills until much later.

I find it degrading that the OP has used the word “frightening”. I was never scared, but I was very very confused, about what had just happened. I didn’t think the heal skill would keep healing, thought I had to press it once than cycle through again.

You might look at me an think “what an idiot”, but something is easy once you know.

I don’t game alot. Or I didn’t before GW2.
#shrugs#

I find it confusing and tricky to understand. And the only reason I did understand was reading through forums. And getting an “ah hah” moment.

I don’t think this “dumbing down” as people have put will affect vet players so much, leveling might feel a bit slower. But it’ll certainly help new players. And that’s a good thing.
